Three year old Opehlia walked as quick as she could next to her dad as they headed inside the hockey rink.

Opehlia stayed right on her Dad’s heels as Brian glanced back making sure Opehlia was there, she has gotten to age where she says she is to old to need to hold his hand so he fondly agrees and lets her walk next to him.

Brian sat on the bench setting their bag next to him and he picked up his daughter setting her on the bench next to him before grabbing his skates and quickly putting them on before he grabbed her little skates and kneeled down in front of her.

“Remember we don’t?” Brian asked his three year old daughter as he slipped on her first skate, she was getting to age she really was starting to understand everything more clearly.

“Touch the blade.” Ophelia easily finished for her Dad giving him a duh look making him laugh and he gently tugged on one of her pigtails making her squeal with laughter.

Brian put on her other skate and reached over grabbing her beanie and put it on her head knowing Opehlia gets cold easily before putting her helmet on over the beanie and clasping the clasps before he stood up.

Opehlia grabbed her little hockey gloves and Brian grabbed their two sticks, Ophelia’s stick obviously a lot smaller than his.

Ophelia waddled after him and watched in awe as her Dad easily transitioned from the floor to the ice and she tried to do the same and almost slipped but Brian caught her by the arm before she could hit the ice.

“That was better!” Brian praised giving her a reassuring smile seeing her frown, Ophelia has had a hard time learning how to get from the ground to the ice without falling but she’s learning.

Ophelia huffed but nodded.

Brian handed Ophelia her stick and grabbed a puck with his stick and skated back a bit away from his daughter, “Ready?” Brian called out softly.

Ophelia’s head bobbled and both of her little hands curled around her little stick as she kept her eyes on the puck watching as her Dad hit the puck and she quickly moved her little stick stopping the puck and hitting it back.

“Perfect!” Brian praised seeing a little smile grow on her face and he hit the puck gently back.

Brian knew that Ophelia would happily stay on the ice all day if she could but he knew she shouldn’t be on the ice that long so young.

Brian eventually managed to get her off the ice with the promise of ice cream once they left the hockey rink.

Brian kneeled down helping her take off her helmet and untied her skates taking them off as she slipped her gloves off and put them in the bag. Brian shook his head fondly because only his three year old would put things back so neatly into a bag.

Brian took off his own skates and bit back an amused smile seeing Ophelia fix his skates in the bag so the bag was neater in her opinion.

“Hand?” Brian asked holding his hand out offering his hand even if she hasn’t wanted to the last couple of days.

Ophelia nodded and hopped off the bench and grabbed his hand with her little hand and followed him out for the hockey rink.

Brian put the bag in the car before they started walking to the ice cream shop, they happened to be right next to their hockey rink.

Brian opened the door of the ice cream shop and they walked inside, “What flavor do you want little one?” He asked with a knowing smile knowing what she is gonna pick.

“Pomegranate.” Ophelia smiled up at her Dad.

Brian had given Ophelia a pomegranate yogurt when she was a baby and he noticed how much she liked it and she likes everything with pomegranate flavor as she can’t eat pomegranates whole yet.

Brian ordered both of their ice creams and let Ophelia hold her cup as they walked to a table together.

Brian watched with a fond smile as Ophelia struggled to get on the chair but eventually got up on her and he didn’t offer her help knowing she would refuse.

Brian is surprised every day how independent his three year old already is, she never wants any help with absolutely anything and sometimes she makes him forgot how young she really is.

“Thank you!” Ophelia politely said giving a wide smile to her Dad as she took a bite of her favorite ice cream.

“You are very welcome.” Brian softly said back brushing his hand across her brown pigtails.

Brian just looked at his daughter with soft eyes there wasn’t anything else in the world that he loved more in than his daughter. It was just him and Ophelia in this world, they didn’t have anyone else they could rely on especially not Megan.

“You done?” Brian asked her as he watched her set down the spoon after taking the last bite of her pink red ice cream.

“Mhm.” Ophelia nodded softly and followed her Dad and stop up from their seats and headed over to the trash can and threw their ice creams cups away.

Ophelia grabbed her Dad’s hand making him glance down at her with a little smile before looking back as they continued walking back to the car.

Brian opened the back door and held out a hand but let Ophelia climb into the car on her but helped her clip her seatbelt as she grabbed her penguin stuff animal that she brings with her everywhere.

Brian had picked out the penguin stuff animal when Ophelia was born and she had just loved it and takes it everywhere and sleeps with every night.

It makes Brian smile because Ophelia always looks like a penguin when she walks with skates or walks with her winter clothes.

“Ready to go home little penguin?” Brian asked softly.

“Just us?” Ophelia looked up at her Dad for an answer.

“Just us.” Brian’s face flashed with sadness but hide it as he smiled at her, He knew Ophelia only understood that her mother was always away and he hated he couldn’t do anything to protect her daughter from that.
