I don't know if I remember this correctly, but can you give Cove the dolphin balloon when his popped in Step 1? I vaguely remember in a playthrough that he accepted the MCs offer of the balloon in Direct Fond but I'm not so sure...

It's Crush, actually! Cove will only accept the MC's balloon if he's at Crush with them.

He'll initially refuse, but accept when the MC insists that they're sharing it.

Honestly but I would love the image of Walburga forcing down bits of Regulus’ body after the Dark Lord found him within the inferni not long after Regulus was declared dead on the tapestry ("Mother, eat me and give birth to me again. This time I’ll make you proud"). She eats their failures (she failed as a mother and he failed as a daughter, a son, a fruit of her labor). And then she’ll wish for another child.

But let’s go back to her cannibalism. She pushes down pale flesh past her throat and cries for the first time in years. From disgust, from disappointment, and from exhaustion. She thought her second child would make everything okay again and now she swallows her word. She loves him but he now disappointed her. So she’ll make use of him one last time. Even if she doesn’t want to.

With her son curled up in her arms, her red lipstick smeared and mixed with gore, his wound opened and red, bleeding out through her dress, between her legs, and smearing her thighs, the red a bright contrast to his pale skin. She'll press him closer to her chest as she chokes on cold, wet flesh. The only warmth she'll feel is her tears.

A Balloon's Landing (2024)

This film dropped on Netflix worldwide today (Nov 9) so I gave it a shot, in spite of the negative responses when it came out in May. The feedback from the summer was that despite the promotional materials (example above), this film was not actually a queer romance. I love Fandy Fan, and I love Taiwanese roadtrip movies, so I went in with expectations tempered. Below will include some high-level spoilers but no details.

This movie is visually gorgeous, as I knew it would be, and was not a bad way to spend an hour and a half. I don't think it does everything it set out to do, and I've seen better treatment of the subject of suicidality, which is actually the main core of the story, but against all odds and all of my expectations, there is a happy ending. So I was glad I watched it.

The thing is, this movie really does feel like a gay romance. The only reason why it doesn't actually qualify comes down to timing; one of the characters is severely depressed through the film, so it makes sense that he's not interested for most of the film anyway, and by the time the romance should be happening there is what I will call a significant disruption so as to avoid spoilers. It still feels like a bit of a cop-out, though, but I'm actually less mad about the gay-baiting than I was going in.

Other than the part where it feels a little like it chickened out of queerness, I think this movie falls into a couple of pitfalls that stop it from being great. The usual 'poor character suffers so that the rich character can have character growth and find fulfillment in their privileged life' is the main one; the other is that it doesn't entirely hold up if you think through the full timeline and cause-and-effect.

TL;DR: There's enough in this film for fanfic, but it's not as gay as it feels like it should be, and the rest of the film isn't good enough to make up for that fact. Still, it's pretty.

Every single thing balloon guy says is my favorite, but especially this (and the alligator incident). The first murder has just happened, and there's a guy's body laying on the sidewalk, and balloon guy walks past and thinks ''ah, yes, this is Perfectly Normal for humans. large pools of red liquid around them are nothing to be concerned about!'' he does not know what death is. despite many attempts to explain it he has remained politely confused about why humans vanish sometimes for the last several hundred/thousand years.

yes! with herald I completely changed the time it was set in and the genre of the story (1890s-inspired steampunk -> 1940s noir-ish), but also with one of my other wips. frost & fire, which I haven't talked about in like two years, got completely and wildly changed at least three times. the reason it's on draft four (?), despite that I've never actually finished a draft of it, is that every time I massively changed the plot/characters/other majorly important element, I started a new draft, because the other one was so far gone it couldn't be salvaged. at this point it's basically the ship (wip?) of theseus
