It’s been a few days since Daryl had left me to stay out god knows where with Merle, his brother who was an ass and always treated him like crap, he left and I had no more will to live, he was my anchor, I haven’t left the watch tower since I got up here I couldn’t find the effort to go down for anything
The door to the guard tower opened seeing it was Carl with Judith, coming and sitting next to me on the little makeshift bed
“Hey…..we miss you down there” he said smiling, he was such a sweet kid and ever since the incident with Lori he’s kind of clung to me but I didn’t hate it
“I’m fine here”
“Well I brought you some water and some cans of food” he said taking his back pack off and handing it over
“Thank you sweetie, sorry I’m not of any help right now, it’s hard to explain this feeling” I said as he placed little Judith in my arms
“It’s okay, I may not get it but I know what it’s like to lose someone you love, and I know how much you loved Daryl”
“I just miss him so much, I need him back” I said feeling my chest tighten trying to keep the tears at bay as I let Judith play around with my fingers
“If you’re soulmates you’ll meet again and from what I’ve seen you are just let him see what he’s missing and he’ll come running back for you” he smiled patting my shoulder
After some play time with Judith and a little chat with Carl he left having to change her and feed her, maybe Carl was right maybe I should go down for a bit it might clear my head, I left the guard tower making sure to cover all my cuts and saw Carol and the prisoner talking
“Hey y/n it’s good to see you” she said with that bright smile of hers
I just smiled and nodded still not feeling like my old self, the me that felt whole with Daryl, before the apocalypse I never was reliant on him like I am now but he’s still the man I love the man I’ve always loved, I can’t just bounce back to normal without the person I’ve had in my life since I was a kid
I wandered around the courtyard, picking up some stray garbage helping to clean up the place when there was a gun shot, I looked around frantic seeing Axel dead on the ground Carol hiding behind his body as more guns went off
I ran to go back to the watch tower hoping to get some cover but the distance was further than I thought and I didn’t know where the shots were coming from so I didn’t know if I was covered and that was quickly proven when that familiar feeling of stinging warmth flooded my body
I fell to the ground right as I got to the watch tower dragging myself inside somehow, slumping down on the stairs looking at the blood gushing down my chest and right arm, a bullet gone right into my shoulder, the blood oozing out quickly making me lightheaded fast from my low iron
I ripped off a piece of my shirt struggling to wrap it around my shoulder and tying it off tight to help the bleeding, I laid back against the stairs feeling weak, the sound of blood pumping in my head by body exhausted
The gun fire had ceased and I heard the others outside scared trying to figuring out everything that happened
I tried to kick the door open but it was no use, my vision was starting to blur and become spotty
Tumblr media
Daryl’s POV
“Where’s y/n?” I asked looking around not seeing her Carol or T.dog
“Last I saw she was trying to run back to the watch tower she’s been staying in” Carl said pointing over to the tower me and her always stayed in on our turns
“Damn” I grunted running across the court, Carl and Maggie right behind me as I yanked the door open, the sight making my heart stop
Tumblr media
Normal POV
Voices around me, faces blurred but the closer it got the more I knew it was Daryl as I was gently picked up
“D….Daryl” I spluttered out
“I’m here sunshine”
Then everything went black
Tumblr media
Daryl’s POV
I ran with her in my arms to the cell block laying her down next to Hershel as he yelled for the others to get his supplies
“Will she be okay?” I asked focusing on all the blood covering her, I should have never left why the hell did I leave
“We gotta stop the bleeding, with her being anemic she’s gonna have a harder time lasting with all this blood lose but I’ll do all I can” he said as he pressed down hard, after it stopped he pulled out the bullet stitched her up and sterilized it then bandaging her wound
“She’s bleeding on her leg too” he said noticed blood that had seeped through her jeans, I was hesitant but her health was more important so I pulled her jeans down enough for us to see what was causing the bleeding here and it finally broke me because this was my fault and I knew it, Hershel looked at me with worried eyes then went to clean them
I moved her to our bed on the perch and waited for her to wake up, hoping she woke up, I can’t believe this happened to her again in the span of a year, shot twice my sunshine the girl who’s stuck by me always making sure I was okay and now I’m the reason she hurt herself, the reason I wasn’t here to protect her
I gently peeled her out of her blood soaked clothes and put her in a spare shirt of mine and some looser jean shorts that covered her cuts, I found a clean rag and a bucket of water and cleaned off her face and any dirt that had accumulated on her body
I hope she come back to me soon
Tumblr media
Normal POV
My head was pounding and everything was so bright and hazy
“Fuck” I groaned trying to cover my eyes but shoot pain through my shoulder
“Hey yer awake” I heard from beside me, I tried to focus and his face came into view, it was Daryl
“Am I dead? Or did you come back” I asked running my hand on his scruffy face
“ ‘m back I shoulda never left” he said filled with guilt
“Why would you go Daryl, I’ve always been there………you promised”
Tumblr media
Part.12
Will y/n forgive Daryl or will she be scared he’ll hurt her again

all of them Bitch
ZO WANTS ME TO ANSWER ALL OF THESE CRUCIAL DEVELOPMENT QUESTIONS.
Tumblr media
FREDZILLA!    gonna  throw  these  under  the  cut  so  i  don’t  clog  the  dash  up,  but  feel  free  to  read  if  ur  bored  and  wanna  learn  more  about  fred  :P
what would completely break your character?
fred  is  known  for  his  indomitable   spirit.  it’s  that  spirit  that  makes  him  such  an  asset  to  the  big  hero  6,  and  what  makes  him  such  a  wonderful  friend.  however,  fred  also  has  a  tendency  to  chase  people.  he  invests  a  large  amount  of  himself  in  nearly  everyone  he  meets.  normally  this  isn’t  an  issue,  but  when  he  really  ends  up  attached  to  someone  and  that  isn’t  reciprocated   /    cut  off,  he  will  likely  feel  crushed.   tldr;  realizing  he  isn’t  as  important  to  other  people  as  he  may  think  he  is
what was the best thing in your character’s life?
the  best  thing  in  fred’s  life  is  /  was  his  friend  group  +  heathcliff  /  actually  getting  to  become  a  superhero.   with  the  loss  of  tadashi,  these  two  things  collided,  enforcing  just  how  much  he  loves  each  of  them.
what was the worst thing in your character’s life?
though  he  will  never  say  it,  the  distance  he  feels  towards  his  parents,  particularly  his  father.   he  knows  that  even  after  they  begin  to  form  a  close  relationship  (  as  per  the  series  ),  that  he  has  missed  out  on  a  significant  amount  of  time  with  them  that  he  can  never  get  back.   they  have  basically  missed  him  growing  up,  and  for  someone  who  values  family  so  deeply,  it  hurts.    tadashi’s  death  is  right  up  there  in  the  running  as  well.
what seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?
watching  his  first  wendy  wower  science  hour  tv  show  alone  in  his  living  room  as  a  kid.     his  mother  asking  him  what  color  he  wanted  his  room  painted.    a  girl  telling  him  the  chip  in  his  teeth  was  cute.    a  lunchlady  giving  him  an  extra  bag  of  chips  after  he  waved  to  her  the  day  prior.   being  underwater  at  night  during  a  pool  party.    etc.
does your character work so they can support their hobbies or use their hobbies as a way of filling up the time they aren’t working?
fred,  being  as  rich  as  he  is,  doesn’t  have  to  work  to  support  his  hobbies.   and  instead  of  using  his  hobbies  to  fill  up  time  he  isn’t  working,  he  uses  his  hobbies  to  cope  with  loneliness  and  to  have  an  outlet  for  his  endless  excitement.
what is your character reluctant to tell people?
it’s  not  that  he’s  necessary  reluctant  to  tell  people  that  he’s  rich,  but  he  usually  doesn’t  just  because  he  doesn’t  think  it’s  important  until  it  comes  up  naturally.    still,  he  also  feels  reluctance  in  describing  the  full  nature  of  his  relationship  with  his  parents  to  others   /   admitting  on  occasion  when  he’s  wrong   (  for  the  fear  of  looking  as  stupid  as  some  think  he  is).   for  the  most  part,  he’s  a  pretty  open  book.
how does your character feel about sex?
fred  is  sex  positive,  and  pretty  chill  about  his  own  sex  life  /  other’s  preferences  as  far  as  their  opinions  towards  it  goes.   he  lost  his  virginity  before  going  to  college,  identifies  as  a  proud  bisexual,  and  is  fairly  sexually  active.   it  isn’t  really  a  big  deal  to  him  to  have  hookups  and  things   -   but  that  doesn’t  mean  he’s  careless  about  them  either.   he  takes  good  care  of  his  partners  and  doesn’t  believe  in  judging  anyone  for  their  choices.
how many friends does your character have?
as  far  as  close  friends  go  in  his   MAIN   verse,  he  considers  the  big  hero  6  (  baymax  included  )   as  his  close  /  best  friends.   he  also  has  a  tendency  to  call  those  he’s  merely  acquainted  with  “friends”  as  part  of  his  agenda  to  establish  a  stronger  friendship  with  them.
how many friends does your character want?
as  many  as  he  can  possibly  have.   the  more  the  merrier.   he  craves  social  interaction  /  friendships  more  than  anything  else  in  the  world.
what would your character make a scene in public about?
fred  has  a  tendency  to  make  a  scene  in  general,  during  both  when  he’s  happy  and  when  he’s  upset.   as  far  as  happiness  goes,  he’ll  jump  for  joy  over  one  of  his  special  interests,  a  positive  end  to  something  he’s  worked  towards,  and  more.    as  far  as  negative  reactions  go,  he  will  throw  a  fit  if  someone  he  knows  and  loves  is  in  significant  trouble,  if  someone  sabotages  his  chance  to  obtain  something  that  would  make  him  happy,  and  more.    basically,  making  scenes  isn’t  something  he  does  scarcely.
for what would your character give their life?
for  his  friends,  his  parents,  heathcliff,  for  anyone  in  need.   as  a  hero,  he’s  incredibly  selfless,  and  would  willingly  throw  himself  in  the  path  of  danger  for  anyone  who  needs  saving.   this  doesn’t  mean  he  wants  to  die  /  that  his  desire  to  protect  his  loved  ones  is  diminished,  but  rather  that  he  has  an  extremely,  almost  faultedly  large  heart.
what are your character’s major flaws?
his  extreme  selflessness  /  hero  complex,  his  intense  desire  to  insert  himself  into  the  lives  of  others,  his  potentially  dangerous  foolishness  /  recklessness,   his  materialistic  nature.
what does your character pretend or try to care about?
while  fred  isn’t  one  to  pretend  to  care  about  something,  he  will  definitely  try  to  care  about  something  if  it  is  important  to  someone  close  to  him.   a  prime  example  of  this  is  how  he  tries  his  best  to  appreciate  art,  one  of  honey  lemon’s  special  interests,  solely  because  it  makes  her  happy  even  though  he  himself  finds  it  a  bit  boring.
how does the image your character tries to project differ from the image they actually project?
fred  definitely  knows  that  he  comes  off  as  goofy,  but  only  sometimes.   there  are  points   (  such  as  occasions  when  he’s  monologuing,  etc.  )   where  he  truly  believes  that  he  looks  more  heroic  /  intelligent  than  he  actually  does.    he,  for  the  most  part,  comes  off  as  excitable,  goofy,  and  a  bit  dim   -   even  when  he  thinks  he’s  really  doing  That ™.    however,  he  has  his  heroic,  brave,  and  intelligent  moments  as  well.
what is your character afraid of?
fred  has  arachnophobia,  as  his  fear  of  spiders  is  actually  debilitating.   aside  from  this,  his  more  mentality  based  fears  are  loss  of  his  loved  ones,  rejection,  failure,  and  things  like  that.

Oh damn. Your drabble "Drowning" has given me IDEAS....
I can just see hero managing to stop villain from killing Supervillain, but Supervillain still being injured/ getting pneumonia from the water in his lungs... and how awkward it would be for hero to take care of someone who'd just tried to drown her.
This idea is fantastic! I hope that this was an ask to do it. If not, I apologize, but this was just such a great idea!
May get a little sad at the end (spoiler alert)
Drowning Part 2
Part 1
Warnings: concussion, CPR, death/killing mentions, descriptions of how someone was going to kill another (never acted upon), classic sick and delirious whumpee, sedatives mention, descriptions of medical setting and practices, mentions of loved ones death, pills (tylenol), hallucinations
~
Villain grabbed the knife, his fingers clutching the hilt until they glowed white. Supervillain was breathing heavily, yet he was still unconscious- lips parted and blue.
Hero also moved forward, her legs tensed and ready to pounce. The scene registered in her mind very quickly. The knife, the villain, and the heaving supervillain... blood and then the inevitable stop of breath.
It didn't have to be inevitable.
Hero rushed forward, grabbing a metal rod, and landed the blow directly to Villain's temple. He faltered, letting go of the knife and collapsing into Hero's awaiting arms.
"M Hhh," he breathed, bleeding head lolling in the crease of Hero's elbow. His eyes shifted from focused to unfocused in a matter of seconds, only to fluctuate back. Here flipped out her phone and called her medic.
"Hero! You alright?"
"Yeah I'm fine. Get to Supervillain's base. It's empty. Villain has a bad concussion, he's not entirely lucid right now..."
"Oh uh, um... I'm on my way." The line clicked.
Hero laid Villain against the wall, cupping his heavy head for a moment before tending to the unmoving supervillain. He wasn't breathing.
Hero quickly felt for a pulse and upon finding a soft thump-thump, she tilted his head to the side. Water immediately gushed out of his nose and mouth. He sputtered a little bit, but never woke.
Hero pressed her lips against Supervillain's after rolling his head back to the center. She breathed into his mouth four times, checked to see if he began to breathe. No.
She continued this. Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe, check... breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe, check... until the supervillain gasped for breath, choking and coughing out water and mucus.
Supervillain jerked himself forward, glancing at Hero to Villain and then back at Hero.
"H-" another coughing fit with more water. He started to gag, dry-heaving until tears spiked his eyes and nausea rose in his throat. When he was done, he scrambled to his feet and tumbled towards the open door to his base.
Hero returned to Villain's side and scooped her friend up. Medic wasn't there, so she decided to take him herself. Caressing his head, gently, she followed Supervillain outside and to her base.
The next day, Hero was walking along a sidewalk on her way home from visiting Villain in the hospital. It was a nice day, a great change from her near-death experience with Supervillain the day prior... Hero shuddered, trying not to think of the agonizingly cold water, the darkness lapping at her vision, knocking Villain out... the whole ordeal.
Knocking Villain out... Hero replayed the conversation she just had with her very ungrateful ex-frenenemy (apparently?). The half-dazed cusses and just plain rudeness from the bedridden patient were more than enough to make her feel annoyed. She saved Villain from committing an act that would have surely land him in jail- if not a mental facility. Especially the way the concussed villain talked about killing Supervillain. Apparently, Villain was going to slowly kill him with the knife, decorating major body parts with cuts and blood.
Hero sighed. That sadistic little turd that couldn't just walk away-
A groan.
Hero looked up to find herself walking in front of an alleyway. It was dark, if that's not a little too cliche, and eerily quite. Not even a stray cat knocked over a garbage can like in every classical alleyway scene.
Hero entered the alley stealthily, opening her holster and lying her hand over her gun. She looked behind every dumpster and every cardboard box. Finding nothing, she proceeded to leave, but two hands grabbed her mouth and throat.
Being yanked backwards sent a spark of adrenaline through Hero's veins. She turned and thrashed, but her attacker was unrelenting.
"Let me go!" Hero yelled when a large hand slipped away from her mouth. The other hand went away too. Pulling her gun out, Hero spun around, only to have a fist meet her face.
The impact startled her, but not as much as the body leaning heavily against her's.
The body heaved and gasped, heat radiating off its skin. Hero looked down and took in the features. She couldn't see a face, but it was obviously a guy. Hero dragged the man over to the only bare spot against the brick wall and leaned him aaginst it. She began to step away, only to realize that his head was resting against her shoulder.
"Hey," Hero mumured and grabbed the man's cheeks, holding him up, examining his face...
Hero nearly dropped the pale face.
It was Supervillain.
Also known as the man who tried to kill her.
Hero, for a brief second of primitive logic, contemplated leaving the feverish man to deal with himself. But guilt, and maybe a twinge of annoyance, drove her the complete opposite direction.
After all, she didn't just save him and give Villain a concussion only for him to die, right?
Yet as she scooped her attacker up, two portions of her brain- her sensible part and her empathetic part- played tug-of-war with each other. Drop him, bring him home, drop him, bring him home...
Of course the empathetic clump of cells won and she bridal-carried the shivering supervillain to her apartment.
She set Supervillain on her beige couch with a blanket strewn over his lap. He just had a cold right? She brought him some tylenol and a glass of water.
"Hey," she said softly, almost a whisper. Supervillain seemed so disconnected that she was afraid that she would startle him. His eyes were glassy and had an abnormal, faraway look.
Supervillain didn't reply, or look at Hero. His gaze was fixated on a corner of the living room.
Then, like a bomb suddenly going off, he started to cough.
He coughed until blood, water and mucus gushed from his mouth. He hacked it up like a waterfall. Hero stood up, linked her hands under his shoulders and hauled him into a better sitting position.
He coughed until he was sobbing, screaming. He fell back against the cushions, sputtering and crying, with tears streaming down his face. Each breath seemed to be a workout- shaky and shallow. He never made eye contact with Hero. Just stared ahead, coughing and crying.
"Are you okay?" Hero asked, loudly, but she still doubted the sick supervillain heard her. She placed a hand against his back, rubbing circles. It was just a cold- she was certain.
But he was so hot.
So unnaturally hot.
Hero frowned and went to grab a thermometer. She placed it against Supervillain's lips, but he didn't open them.
"Come on now," she coaxed gingerly and rubbed his flushed cheeks. She sighed. She didn't even need to know the temperature to know that the sick man infront of her had a fever.
Supervillain parted his mouth open and allowed the pointed metal edge to find a home under his tongue. He tried to move it around, but his resolve was too weak. Hero held it there until it beeped. 102.9
102.9 degrees fahrenheit. Nearly 103 degrees...
"Oh gosh," Hero exclaimed and dumped a couple tablets out of the tylenol bottle. She coaxed them onto Supervillain's bacteria-lidden tongue and pressed the glass of water against his bottom lip.
"Drink," she whispered. Supervillain obeyed and took a sip just big enough to force the pills down.
"Good job," she praised and lowered Supervillain down. Only for him to start coughing again.
"Take it easy, honey," she murmured. Honey? Where did that come from? Come on Hero, she scolded herself. The guy just tried to drown you the other day; you don't have to make this even more awkward or embarrassing.
Supervillain leaned into her. His firey body nearly made Hero begin to sweat. His eyelids drooped, breaths slowed, and soon he was alseep in her arms.
Hero knelt there by the armrest, alone with her intense thoughts. She rubbed his moist hair, allowing her nails to scratch at his scalp. Even alseep, she hoped it gave some comfort.
Not that he exactly deserved comfort. Villain was in a hospital bed, sleeping off sedatives and painkillers greedily and dealing with a major concussion. She thought of the grim night the doctors and her shared. Restraining a delirious villain, the MRI, all the tests... and then finally given the clear to inject a moderate sedative dose to help him sleep.
But Hero still gave the undeserved comfort. Maybe she was too empathetic, too caring and generous for her own good, but that matter could be taken care of another day.
Supervillain awoke a few hours later to Hero'd strawberry smelling hair resting against the top of his head. Her arms dangled across his chest as if she was giving him a hug from behind. She fell alseep mid-hug.
Of course, the supervillain did not register this interaction as that. He imagined it more as encompassing tendrils of ivy tying him down to a foreign object. He squirmed, trying to break free of Mother Nature's restraints, but he was too sick, too weak, and too helpless to do much more than move around.
Hero then woke up also, pulling her arms- the so-called vines- off the terrified supervillain's body.
"Good morning," she yawned and pressed a hand against her ward's forehead. Supervillain didn't seem to know what to do. He wavered between pushing forward into the hand- or the frustratingly threatening boulder to him- or pulling away. He chose the later, jerking away only to send a rush of mind reeling dizziness through his head.
He swayed, or he thought he did for he was still lying against the couch as if a magnetic force attached him to it. Reaching out weakly to grab Hero's hands, he closed his eyes.
"You are so sick," Hero cooed, her voice a mixture of both anxiety and tranquility. Supervillain gripped her tighter and tried to pull himself up to her.
"Shh, shh," Hero whispered. "Sleep."
Supervillain seemed like he nodded. Or was it due to him loosening up as he fell asleep again? Hero didn't know, nor cared.
She stood up and laid a blanket over Supervillain before heading into the kitchen to make a bland chicken soup and a small bowl of rice.
After the meal was done, about thirty minutes later, Hero returned to Supervillain on the couch with a portable plastic table and the food. She propped the still sleeping man into a sitting position before awakening him.
Supervillain blearily opened his eyes, blinked, and settled his gaze on Hero's eyes. He twitched his head upwards, but that was all. Hero didn't even think he noticed the steaming food on the table beside him.
"Want to eat?" She asked, more to herself than anyone. Supervillain looked at her with those wide, brown eyes like he did right before he attempted to drown her.
"Mnh," Supervillain groaned. "M chest hurts."
"Your chest hurts?"
"Mhm."
Hero tentatively lifted his shirt, but the feverish man didn't seem to care, or realize the possible intimate gesture.
"Let's take this off, shall we?"
Supervillain nodded, which made Hero nervous. Why was he being so compliant?
Nevertheless, she striped his shirt off and examined his ribcage. She had him take a couple deep breaths, but the movement seemed to exhaust him further. His ribs seemed a bit swollen, but nothing was broken.
Then a horrid realization dawned on her.
He had pneumonia. Most likely due to the water still festering in his lungs.
"Ooookay," Hero breathed. She would deal with that later, maybe call Medic- no, no one could know that she was housing the Man of Terrors- but first she had to get some food into Supervillain's stomach.
So she spooned, mouthful by mouthful into Supervillain's parched mouth slowly. She cleaned any broth dripping down his chin with a washcloth.
After he finished eating, Supervillain was so exhausted that he nearly fell alseep with his neck bent awkwardly. Hero readjusted him to a laying position, but elevated him slightly to ease his ragged breathing.
Pneumonia.
That would explain the harsh breathing and the daunting fever. Gosh, was he sick and so sudden too. Hero sat next to Supervillain, rubbing his hair back from his sweaty forehead like a caretaker.
Even though it was awkward, given the circumstances and past events, Hero stayed with him all night. Easing his pain, feeding him small bits of rice and soup, taking off blankets and putting them back on, wet washcloths and fans. Sometimes she would doze off on his chest, but never for long.
Whatever connection and trust built up between the two that night was unbelievable. Extraordinary, even. But still, nothing, not even with the newfound relationship, prepared Hero for the one simple and innocent yet insanely heartbreaking word that sickly Supervillain uttered.
"Mother?" He squeaked, looking up at Hero with eyes so full of love and relief that they looked about to burst. Hero felt her heart break, shattered to a million pieces as her guest extended his hand to her face.
"Am I in heaven?" He asked in such a childish manner. He looked around, but frowned at his surroundings. "Mother? You're dead right? Am I dead too?" The previous chirpy voice lowered to Supervillain's desolate montone.
Hero didn't know what to say, for Supervillain gazed at her with all the intent he could physically muster.
She could give into the hallucination and play along, but guilt would eat her alive. But, she thought it rude to just blatantly say, "No. You're mother is dead. It's me, Hero."
Supervillain whimpered, chin trembling as he began to cry. Hero winced, but then realized:
She said those words outloud and now she had a grieving, delirious, and sick supervillain to tend to. Great, just great.

Don’t Underestimate Me (Chpt. 2)
It’s finally here! It’s also 5am so apologizes if this is absolute garbage. This is mostly a filler chapter but we do get to see some quality Fleur and Skylar bonding. Fleur just deserves so much better and I love the idea of her being this curious girl who just wants to know as much as possible.
Anywho, slightly shorter than what I plan for all of the other chapters to be but I wanted to get this out sooner rather than later after making you guys wait for it for so long.

Prologue| Chapter 1|
Tumblr media
Something about manners?
Fred had never seen Bill so angry before.
“The attacks are getting more aggressive, we can’t keep doing this.” Harry screamed, slamming his fist on the table.
“And we can’t go after a man that we can’t find.” Bill sighed out. His hand going up to massage his temple. “I refuse to send people out on a death mission.”
“People are dying either way. We might as well do something about it.” The brunet fires back.
“And all of this arguing isn’t helping either side.” George interjected.
Everyone in the room seemed to slump down in their seats.
“What do you suggest we do then?” Bill said, looking to the twins.
“I..” Fred ran his hand through his hair. “I don’t have an answer for that yet.”
Tumblr media
“Merlin. It’s tight enough.” Skylar gasps out as Poppy, her newly assigned maid, pulls the laces on her corset even tighter.
The older lady just gives a little chuckle. “Alright. Quit your whining.” She says giving her a small pat on the back before tying a small bow at the base. “Take it, it's your first time wearing one?”
“That obvious, huh?” Skylar says as she pulls at the uncomfortable garment before awkwardly shuffling to grab her overdress.
“No wonder it’s so uncomfortable. You have the posture of a question mark.” Poppy came up behind her and pushed her shoulders back, immediately she felt it slightly easier to breathe.
“Oh.” Was all she said.
“Funny how that works isn’t it?” Her nurse chided back with a small wink.
A knock on the door interrupts the exchange.
“I hope you're decent.” A familiar voice calls through the door before the door swings open. Minerva steps into the room and sighs slightly.
“Well I can’t say I’m surprised.” She looks at the nurse, “Make sure she’s presentable.” Poppy nods.
“Now you. You stick out like a sore thumb.” Skylar scoffs at the remark. “Luckily. I found someone willing to tutor you.”
“Who?”
Tumblr media
Skylar had never seen this amount of plates in her life. Let alone all laid out at once in front of her.
“Okay. The main course has just come out. There are different colored plates, which ones do you grab from?” Fleur asks her again, patience starting to run thin.
“Well seeing as it wasn’t any of the last three I guessed, there's only one left. Silver?” Skylar said in return.
“All that matters is we got there eventually.” The blonde perked up. “Okay. That’s the basics you need to know for eating.” Fleur pulls out another leather bound book that’s almost double the size of the previous one.
Skylar takes one look at the book and lays her head against the cool wood of the table.
“This is going to take forever.” She groans out.
“Well with that attitude, of course it will.” Fleur chides.
“You know what. I’ve had enough.” Skylar says
With a quick little flick of her wrist, the pages of the book started to fly open at a speed that was almost so fast you couldn’t see them.
“Merlin, I don’t why I didn’t think of that in the first place.” Skylar whispers to herself, the words currently sinking into her brain.
Fleur was staring at the girl wide-eyed, in shock almost.
“Where did you learn to do that?” She cried
Skylar stared at her for a moment. Dumbfounded.
“You’re a witch? Can’t you do it too?”
The girl just shook her head. “There are strict rules about magic. Girls aren’t allowed to use it outside of school, our wands actually get broken once we graduate. I’ve never seen someone even attempt magic without a wand”She gushes. Suddenly she is giving Skylar the biggest smile she had seen the girl wear all day.
“You have to teach me!” Fleur all but screams. Skylar shushes the over excited girl.
“Absolutely not.” She whispers at the blonde girl in front of her.
“Oh come on. I’m spending valuable time teaching you all this.” She gestures to the piles of books laying on the table in front of them. “I don’t need to know a lot. Just the simple stuff. You know to make life a little easier?” She gives her the biggest pout Skylar thinks she’s ever seen.
“What do you have to do? You have servants waiting on your hand and foot. You could accomplish the same thing by flicking your arm around and having a person come running.” Skylar says with a small snort at the idea of Fleur doing anything closely related to work.
“But think of how much freedom this could give me. Think of how it would look to someone that I could do things for myself.”
“Is that even allowed?” Skylar retorts.
“Oh screw the etiquette for a second. Please?” She says, laying a hand on top of Skylars. Fleur must have sensed some softening in her resolve because she quickly followed it up with a small “Pretty please?”
“Oh fine!” Skylar said, throwing her hands up in defeat!
“Oh this is wonderful! How did you even learn?” She responds with a dreamy sigh.
The question hangs in the air for a second
“I used to watch my father. See, he trained all the swordsmen in our town and sometimes boys don’t fight fair. I saw him do enough simple healing and simply asked him one day. I think deep down he was happy to pass on the housework to someone else.” She lied like it was the fondest of memories. Fleur nodded excitedly, holding onto every single word like it was gospel.
“Like I said, I don’t need to know every little detail. I just want to learn the basics.” Fleur gives a big exaggerated  pout..
“Didn’t I already say yes?” Skylar shot back, faking a cross voice. “Now let it go before I change my mind. Do you know what the rest of the house would think if they heard anything we said?” With that Fleur pales ever so slightly and gives a short curt nod.
Giving a low curtsy she walks away. After a few paces she looks around the room a few times before looking back at the younger girl and giving her a knowing wink. Skylar just rolls her eyes before yelling “I’d love to get your opinion on a new dress. Would you meet me in my apartments after dinner please?”
With that she walks back over to the library shelf to put the books that Fleur had pulled out back up. After a few minutes she finds herself giggling slightly, letting her head fall into her hands.
Skylar found herself giddy at the thought of having a friend like Fleur. Someone who seemed to float on air, someone as graceful and poised as she seemed to be. But, as fond of the girl as she was, she’s breaking about half of the rules she has ever had.
It’s only fair she returns what little she can. After-all, Fleur only wanted to learn the very basics. It’s not like she’ll ever need to get a wand in her hand. Just the basics and one more secret she would have to keep. What could go wrong?

Chapter Two

The cold air stung at the fresh open wounds on Liadain’s knuckles. An early morning spent training resulted in the copper stained bandages on her hands.
She panted as she finally stepped back from the grain sack she’d strung up from the gnarled oak tree that ruled over her backyard like a war wizened king. She watched it sway back and forth from the force of the blows she had delivered.
Today was to be the first day of training with her team. A restful night's sleep would have done her well; she even promised Kushina she would go to bed soon after their goodbyes last evening. Yet anxiety had beckoned her out to the makeshift training grounds she had created as a child.
“Dani!” a voice echoed out from inside Liadain’s empty home.
“Backyard!” Liadain called back as she delivered a stream of punches to the weathered punching bag.
“Honestly, Liadain,” Mizuki Nakamoto stepped out from the backdoor, “you shouldn’t leave your door unlocked like that. Who knows what could happen!”
Liadain turned to face her with a hand on her hip and an eyebrow raised in amusement.
“Oooo look at me! I’m the mighty Tanaka!” The freckle-faced fourteen-year-old held her hands up in a mock fighting stance.
“Well, I am,” Liadain laughed as she walked towards the porch steps. When she  reached the top, she stretched her arms upwards as she leaned against the post of the porch railing.
“Yeah, well you’re also eleven. Be practical,” Mizuki huffed as she pulled the young blonde into a tight hug.
“Practicality is your thing, Zuki,” Liadain chuckled as the two head into the house where the rising sun had begun to adorn the kitchen in a cheery golden glow.
“You could stand to be a bit more practical. Look at your hands, they’re cracking and bleeding,” Mizuki pulled out a tincture from her satchel and opened it to reveal a reddish brown salve. “Take off the bandages and put some of this on. I’ll have Mother make you your own tincture soon. It will be good for when you go out on a mission.”
Liadain groaned as she began to undo her bandages, “But Mizuki! That stuff stings!” she whined as she discarded the bloodied rags into the garbage.
“You know what else would sting? An amputation because you have gangrene,” Mizuki shoved the tincture into Liadain’s hands.
She begrudgingly began to apply the salve to her cracked skin. She winced as its healing properties stung at the wounds.
“Has your Da had a chance to work on that salve I asked him for...ya know for…” Liadain gestured to her entire body and the scars that decorated it.
Mizuki, who had busied herself with putting the kettle onto the stove, looked back at her friend with sad eyes. The curl that fell in front of her face swayed back and forth as she shook her head no.
“He’s really been trying, but your scars aren’t like regular scars.” Mizuki walked over and placed two mugs onto the counter top that was between them. “He said that your scars aren’t of the Earth. They’re a gift from the sky.”
“Yeah, some gift.” Liadain huffed as she looked to her right, into the mirror that hung nearby. The faded blue and purple lines made her pale skin almost deathly, along with the sullen expression she wore as she looked at them in disdain.
“I’d sell my last bit of chakra to make these stupid things go away,” Liadain poured honey into her cup as Mizuki added hot water to their tea.
“Don’t go saying dumb things like that. You’re a shinobi of the Hidden Leaf. Your weaknesses need to become your strengths.” Mizuki sat down across from Liadain and gazed at her over her square glasses.
Liadain gently slid her index finger around the rim of her mug and stared at the scarring that went to her fingertips.
“So, you met your team. How did that go? You’re with Mao right? She and I are good friends.” Mizuki tried to pry conversation out of Liadain.
“Oh, oh yeah. Mao is nice—” Liadain nodded and shrugged, “—Tatsuo...Tatsuo pretty much called me a thief.”
Mizuki rolled her eyes, “Tatsuo Saito? Oh he is almost as impossible as his brother Hideo!” She clicked her tongue in disgust.  “Don’t pay him any mind, but don’t excuse his behavior either. A lot of us were brought up hearing stories of your ancestors, that doesn’t mean we should expect you to be nothing but a stereotype.”
“You know what the strangest thing is Zuk?” Liadain chuckled before taking a long sip of her tea. “My entire life I’ve heard those stories about my family. As much as they hurt to hear, I still love to hear them. It’s really the only way I’ll ever have memories of them.”
Mizuki looked down at the counter and then back at the girl in front of her.
How can someone so young really be so old? She pondered as she reached out to touch Liadain’s arm.
“Mother and Father still would let you move in, you know. The guest room could be yours. We could be like sisters!” Mizuki grinned at the idea of having Liadain in her home. All the time they could spend training together or going on adventures in the village.
Liadain gave a soft smile as she looked around her empty home.
“I could never leave this house. I promised the Widow that I would take care of it for her,” Liadain replied as she sighed softly.
When Lord Third had found Liadian in the woods, he knew of only one person he could trust to watch over her as she grew up. That dark night he had approached the lone house on the last road in the village and knocked on the Widow Adachi’s door.
She had recently lost her husband to illness and lived in the large house all alone. Her daughter had long ago left the village to travel the world and had yet to return.
She had loved Liadain as if she were her own and Liadain loved her more than anyone she’d ever come in contact with.
Last winter, the Widow Adachi had fallen ill and passed away. She left everything she owned to Liadain, including the house.
Mizuki smiled in understanding, “Just know the offer is always on the table.”
An hour went by before the two decided to head off to the academy together. The warm Spring morning brought a smile to Dani’s face as they walked down the dirt road towards the village.
“What do you think of your sensei?” Mizuki asked as she adjusted the straps of her backpack.
“Kushina-Sensei is the best. I’ve known her for all of twenty-four hours, but she’s the coolest person I know.” Liadian gushed as she recounted the night's trip to the ramen shop.
“I hope I get a sensei like her when I graduate,” Mizuki chuckled as they turned the corner and into a more crowded area of the village.
“You totally will,” Liadain agreed.
Mizuki stopped suddenly. Liadain followed her gaze as she began to wave.
Mao glided over to them. The gaze of everyone followed her as she approached the other two girls.
“Liadain! I didn’t know you were friends with Mizuki!” Mao hugged them both as they continued walking to the academy.
“Yeah, the Widow Adachi would bring me to Mizuki's parent’s shop all the time. We used to play dolls together.” Liadain explained as they stepped through the front gates.
“Hey! Watch out!” a voice called as some younger academy students speed past them. One of the boys accidentally bumped into Mizuki, causing her to drop her book to the ground.
“Ah! Iruka!” She rolled her eyes. “Watch where you’re going!”
Iruka picked up her book and held it out to her, “Sorry Mizuki, I didn’t hurt you did I?”
Mizuki grabbed the book and waved him off with a faint blush on her face. “No, no. I’m fine.”
Iruka ran off after his friends and Mizuki huffed as she regained her composure, “That Iruka is so-”
“In love with you?” Mao offered. She and Liadain burst into giggles.
“What?! Ew, no. I was going to say annoying . Just like you two!” She rolled her eyes and then stopped in front of the classroom. “Well, I’m going to head inside. I’ll see you guys for lunch! Oh, Dani take this tincture, you need the salve for your hands.”
Mizuki handed Liadain the tincture of healing salve. She put it into the tan pouch around her waist.
“Thanks, Zuk, good luck in class today!” Liadain smiled as she and Mao headed outside to the training grounds.
“What do you think Kushina will have us do today?” Liadain asked Mao, who was busy tying her braids up into a ponytail.
“No idea, maybe just some basic stuff?” Mao offered with a shrug as they spotted their red headed sensei sitting on a bench talking with Tatsuo.
“Good morning girls!” Kushina smiled at her other two students and then stood up. “I thought we could spend today really getting to know each other.”

Felix Month
Day 8: Baking
Felix grabbed the bowls and laid them out onto the table. He was making chocolate chip cookies.
It took five minutes for him to realize he had no clue what he was doing. He sighed. At least Plagg wasn’t there to ridicule him.
He glanced at the phone covered in flour beside him. He could text Marinette. She would be willing to help. She’s always willing to help.
But would she want to? She did mention she needed to finish up a couple of designs for a competion. Better not to bother her and just try again after a little research.
Felix had just finished reading and comparing recipes and watching tutorials when Marinette barged into the kitchen.
“What. Are. You. Doing.” She growled, ripping the measuring cup from his hand.
“Attempting to make cookies?”
“No.”
“What do you-“
“No, you are not allowed to make cookies without me. I will not allow any baked good of yours to be exposed to the light of day. It is my solemn duty as a Dupain-Cheng.”
“I thought you were working on your designs?”
“This is far more important! Come on, we’re going to the bakery.”
“I just have to tell my mother…”
“Don’t waste your time,” she waved her hand, “your mom’s he one who told me. She went to the mall to get away from the fumes.” She sniffed the air. “Which, from the looks of it, occurred due to pepper? Why did you add pepper?”
“I- I wasn’t aware that I did.” Felix was stunned.
“You may be a hopeless at cookies, Felix Culpa, but by Jove, we’ll make a baker out of you yet!” And with that, Felix was dragged out the door by his arm.
—————————
“Papa! Mama! Felix is here and we need to teach him to bake!”
Tom Dupain leapt into the air, slamming an almost finished cake into the garbage can. “Dear? Can you take over for me? Marinette needs my help.”
“Of course!” Sabine immediately began making the cake with practiced ease, keeping an eye on the counter for customers.
“Now then,” the hulking man turned to look at Felix, “what would you like to make?”
“He was trying to make cookies.” Marinette offered.
“Cookies it is!” He turned beginning to prepare what Felix supposed were the necessary ingredients and supplies to make and demonstrate cookie creation.
“Tom, do you really think he’ll want cookies? Look at him, try for something less sweet.”
Tom squinted at Felix. “You’re right! Let’s try some tarts!”
———————————
Nothing had worked. They had tried every baked good they could think of and nothing. Sabine had long since finished her cake, and watched on in amusement. Finally, after watching Felix botch recipe after recipe, she stood and took Felix by the shoulders. “What do you like to eat Felix? Your favorite food? What can’t you imagine your routine being the same without?”
There was no hesitation. “Camembert.”
Sabine smiled and shared a glance with her daughter. “Cheese croissants.”
It was an almost familiar process, as Felix had been baking for most of the day, but this time seemed different. He ended up making a dozen croissants to take home for his family.
Tom slapped his shoulder. “Great job! You found your niche. Marinette, would you like to walk Felix back home? The streets of Paris aren’t safe with all the akumas about.”
“Sure thing!” She beamed and took Felix by the arm, already gushing about how proud she was that he found a pastry he was good at.
Unbeknownst to the two teenagers, Sabine and Tom gave each other a knowing glance.
————––—-—
Of course, after entering Felix’s home, he had to offer that Marinette stay for lunch. She, of course said yes.
The platinum blond set to work. He fell into his normal pace, tying his apron and gathering his ingredients. Cooking was a relaxing pastime for him; he enjoyed the innovation he could apply to even the simplest of meals.
“Hey, Nette! Any allergies I should know of?”
“Nope! I’m the pinnacle of health.”
“That’s good news for the both of us then.” He returned to his work.
After prepping, cooking, keeping Plagg from the spices (that was a common occurrence throughout the whole process), and plating, Felix brought two plates out to the table with all the practice of a well-paid waiter, and placed one in front of Marinette.
“Felix?”
“Yes Marinette?”
“What. Is. This.”
“Chicken.”
“This can’t be chicken!” She flung her arms around. “It looks so fancy! I thought you couldn’t do this stuff. What about the cookies.”
“Yes, it is chicken, I assure you it tastes better than it looks and I can’t bake, I like to believe I cook fairly well.”
She was silent, chewing the bite she had taken as Felix talked. Her bluebell eyes widened. “This is so good. Who taught you?”
He shrugged. “I taught myself.”
“Whoa.”
They ate in silence for a bit, Marinette focusing on the food, and Felix focusing on Marinette. Soon, all the food was gone and Marinette broke the silence. “I have a deal.”
“Oh, and what is that?”
“I’ll teach you baking, and you’ll teach me cooking, and eventually we’ll be able to have mini competitions.”
“I have to say I’m interested,” he leaned forward, “but why?”
Her manner changed instantly. She blushed and pressed her index fingers together. “Well, I want us to be able to prove Lila wrong when she lies about cooking or baking. And I also want to be able to make that chicken…” she murmured, cheeks darkening even more.
“In that case, it’s a deal.”
She brightened, and shook Felix’s hand. “Yes! Would every other weekend work?”
“Of course.”
She gave a final grin as she started to leave. “Great, I’ll see you at school tomorrow. Bye.”
“Goodbye.”
As soon as she was gone. Baking did not go as planned. Of course he was glad he was able to share his gift with Marinette but now he was in a rut.
“There’s still time to think, kit.” Plagg reminded gently, floating from his breast pocket. “You can make a new plan.”
“I know Plagg, but… it’s going to take a while to come up with a new Valentine’s gift for Nette. Those cookies were an integral piece in my plan.”
“We’ll work on it, kit. There’s something better to do.”
“Thank you, Plagg. You’re being very supportive. Are you sick?” Felix gave a very Plagg-like smirk, enjoying his chance to tease the kwami, not the other way around.
“Yeah, sick of being kept from those croissants. Gimme!”
Felix chuckled, going to grab a croissant, all the while thinking of a new plan for Valentine’s Day with Marinette.

Of First Dates and Not So First Kisses.
5 AM editing...
I am so good at adulting.
The latest piece from my hyperfixation hole: You and Piotr Rasputin go on your first date together.
(Set after the fic “Myska” and before (well, partially before) “Dig the Needle In,” both of which you can find on my Tumblr and on Archive of Our Own.)
Warnings: None. Except maybe strong language. Other than that, it’s just pure fluff.
Rating: T. Because Wade.
Pairings: Piotr Rasputin x Reader and vaguely implied Wade Wilson x Nathan Summers.
“No! I refuse to accept this!”
You roll your eyes as Wade flails around dramatically. “Wade, unless your real mutation is bending reality and the subjects therein to your will, you have to accept it.”
“This is art! Art!”
“No, this--” You point at the TV screen, which is currently playing a rerun of Desperate Housewives “--is garbage. Hot, shitty, nasty garbage.”
“Okay, apparently my efforts to reverse your parents’ brainwashing haven’t been as effective as I thought, because there’s no way any sane person in total control of their faculties would say something like that!”
You roll your eyes. Again. “No, Wade, I’m just not stupid enough to believe that daytime drama TV is entertaining.” Before your best friend can start in on another tirade, you add, “And, I mean, come on. If there’s anyone you should be showing this, it’s Cable. They don’t even have TV in the future, Wade. I at least got to experience it for a couple years before my dad got rid of our television set. Point stands, Cable’s situation is far more dire than mine.”
Wade perks up, and it’s obvious from the look on his face that he’s actually buying in to your distraction.
“Besides,” You continue, laying on the persuasion extra thick. “What an excellent opportunity! The two of you, on the couch, watching TV together; it’s practically a quasi-date!”
Wade falters. “Yeah, because everyone’s just lining up to date this face,” he grumbles bitterly.
“Fine.” You switch tactics like the master con artist you are. “Don’t think of it as a date. Just think of it as an opportunity to fill his brain with tons of bullshit about this century while tormenting him with shitty reality drama.”
That does it --because if there’s one thing that motivates Wade more than his Texas-sized crush on Nathan Summers, it’s an opportunity to be an unrepentant asshole. He bounds off to the kitchen --where Nathan is conveniently in the middle of making a sandwich--and loops his arms around the older man’s neck while gushing about ‘quality time’ and ‘historical education.’
You take the opportunity to make your escape --blowing a kiss at Cable when he glares at you, though it’s worth noting that he’s letting Wade lead him to the rec room without too much complaining--and head off in search of your boyfriend, Piotr.
He isn’t in his room, nor is he in the training room. It’s Saturday, so he’s not teaching, and he isn’t grading or lesson planning in one of his classrooms.
A smile lights up your face when you realize where he must be, and you scamper off towards one of the unfinished expansion wings on the mansion.
One of the ongoing goals at Xavier’s is that of expansion --taking in more mutants, reaching more people with the truth about mutants, extending their reach to an international level so they could help mutants around the world... the list goes on and on, but the immediate effects of that mission often manifest in upgrading the mansion or other X-Men facilities.
You walk through the unfinished wing, taking time to relish the unfiltered sunlight and the natural, homey feeling of the space.
The wing, once done, is supposed to serve as extra classrooms for the ever growing group of mutant students and kids that lived at the mansion. However, at your loving badgering, Piotr had asked for an art studio.
It was multi-purposed, he insisted. He could use it for himself, yes, but he also could use it for his students. At any rate, the studio was approved.
Now, he uses it mostly as his personal, private get away whenever the mansion gets too chaotic --one that, according to him, you’re welcome in any time as long as you don’t bring Wade.
You walk up to one of the few doors on its hinges --lovingly painted and decorated with the hand prints of Piotr’s art students--and poke your head into the room.
He’s sitting in an overstuffed arm chair positioned by one of the windows, sketchbook in his lap and face tense with concentration. He looks up when you close the door behind you, and absolutely beams at the sight of you. “Privet, myshka.”
You grin back, unable to resist his infectious happiness. “Hey, big guy.” Your heart hammers in your chest as you walk over to his chair and press a kiss against his lips. It’s only been a few weeks since the two of you decided to get together, and you’re still swept away with giddy energy every time you get to do something remotely couple-y with him.
He smiles up at you, cheeks flushed and face glowing with bashful exhilaration, when you break the kiss. “Is there any particular reason why you’re here?”
“Actually, yeah. I had to escape Wade; he was trying to make me watch garbage TV again.” You sit down on the armrest of the chair and grin at him. “I managed to sic him onto Cable, though. With any luck, he won’t even notice I’m gone.”
Piotr lets out a breathy laugh. “That was devious of you, myshka. I’m not sure Cable deserved that.”
“Hey, he’s just as capable of punching Wade in the face and walking away as anyone else is. If I didn’t know better, I’d say he actually likes spending time with him.”
Your boyfriend simply shakes his head --he’s still smiling though, which means he finds your antics amusing rather than disapproval-worthy--and curls one of his massive hands around one of your considerably smaller ones. “Well, at any rate, I am glad you are here. I wanted to talk to you about something --it actually connects to ‘escapes,’ ironically enough.”
You cock your head to the side, beyond intrigued about whatever’s going to come out of his mouth next. “What’s up, big guy?”
He gazes down at your intertwined hands for a moment, gently running the pad of his thumb over the back of your hand. “I would... I would like to take you on date. Sometime this week.”
“...Really? You want to take me on a date?”
“Da. I want to spend time with you... without others interrupting.”
Well, you’ll be fucked if you’re going to argue with that. You say as much --grinning impishly when Piotr gives you the ‘language’ look--and lean in and kiss him on the cheek. “So, where are you gonna take me, handsome?”
“That is what I wanted to ask you about. I am... not sure where we should go --and you should have a say, too, since this is your first ever date.”
You swing your legs back and forth, heels knocking against the side of the chair as you consider your options. “I trust your instincts, Pete. I don’t think you could pick something that I wouldn’t like, considering that the main thing I want to do is spend time with you.” You can tell that the open-ended-ness of your answer makes him nervous, so you add in a few stipulations for his sake. “I guess... nothing to fancy or upscale. We could do that down the road, if you want, but I kind of just want to hang out and have a good time with you. And I’d rather not do anything at night, I guess. I’d just feel better if we were back here around dinner time.”
He nods --you know he’s taking all this seriously, it is him after all--and squeezes your hand. “Of course, dorogaya moya. Whatever makes you comfortable. Perhaps... lunch date on Wednesday? I can show you some of parks and shops nearby?”
You grin, warm and unbelievably happy. “That sounds perfect.”
The rest of the remaining time until Wednesday is spent trying to nail down the perfect date outfit. You have a several hour consultation with Neena, Yukio, and Ellie --and Wade, because he refuses to be left out of anything--a couple days before the big event to decide what constitutes a good ‘daytime, causal but not too casual lunch date that also includes walking around together.’
Wade got as far as recommending his ‘hooker heels’ as your shoes of choice --Ellie smacked him across the back of the head for that--before Neena kicked him out and took over like the wonderful big sister figure she was.
In the end, the four of you had settled on a soft black t-shirt with a faded Guns’n’Roses logo on the front, a camouflage skirt that fell mid-thigh, a denim vest to go over the shirt, and a pair of low-rise black Converse (considerately loaned to you by Ellie).
You stand in front of your bathroom mirror, carefully tying a red bandanna around your head to act as a headband. Once you’re satisfied with its position, you check over your make up (natural, at Ellie’s suggestion).
You're unexpectedly nervous. You know Piotr’s not going to judge you --or dismiss you--for how you choose to dress, but you really want him to find you pretty. You’re fiddling with your hair when the sound of someone clearing their throat at you catches your attention.
Ellie’s standing in your bedroom, watching you with her usual stoic expression. “He’s ready for you.”
You nod, and let out a nervous huff. “Okay. Show time.”
“Relax. You look fine.” The corner of her mouth turns up in the barest hint of a smile. “Have fun.”
You flash her a thankful smile before you dart out of your room, snatching up your purse as you go. You hurry down the stairs and practically skip out the front door, any nervousness you might have felt far outweighed by the excitement running through your veins.
Piotr’s out on the front drive, leaning against a sleek black car that oozes power and ‘I’m more expensive than your college payments.’ He’s dressed in jeans, nice sneakers, and a light-blue short sleeved button down shirt that he’s tucked into his pants. He smiles, soft and warm, when you dash towards him. “You look nice, myshka.”
“Thanks,” You say, a little breathless from your mad run out of the mansion. “Shall we go?”
He nods, bends to kiss your forehead, and opens your door like the consummate gentleman that he is. Once you’re safely tucked inside, he closes the door and walks over to the driver’s side. “I thought,” he says as he buckles himself in, “we could start by walking through one of the parks.”
You grin and can’t help but shiver a little as the car rumbles to life. “Sounds awesome.”
He drives to a quaint town a little over half an hour away from the mansion. Piotr parks by a lush, quiet park at the edge of the town and immediately gets out of the car to get your door for you.
You smile as you step out and breath in the fresh summer air. The park is filled with different bushes, trees, and outcroppings of flowers. You can hear a stream gurgling nearby, and birds chirp overhead. “This is perfect, Piotr. It’s so beautiful here.”
“This is one of my favorite places to come and draw when mansion is too chaotic. Close enough to be safe, but far enough to, ah, avoid Wade.”
“He’s not all bad.”
“Nyet. But he is... trying.”
You giggle up at him and latch on to his hand. “Yeah, I know what you mean.”
The two of you amble through the park, not in any particular hurry to get anywhere. You’re happy to take your time, thoroughly relishing the way Piotr’s fingers sit so naturally between yours, how warm his hand is, the way his voice rumbles as the two of you talk, the soft, bashful smiles he keeps favoring you with whenever you look up at him...
It’s heaven, pure and simple.
“I can see why you like it here,” You say after a stretch of comfortable silence. “It’s peaceful. And gorgeous. What do you draw when you come here?”
“Landscapes, mostly, though I have started to sketch passersby as well.” He ducks his head and lets out a self-depreciating chuckle. “I am... not that talented with faces.”
“I’ve seen your sketch book, which leads me to believe that you’re probably selling yourself short.”
He shrugs and smiles at you. “Who can say? Art is subjective, after all.”
Eventually, you reach the end of the park and step into a stylish downtown area that boasts several locally owned shops and cafes. You meander down the streets with Piotr, stopping every so often to gaze through one of the windows or step inside and check out one of the stores. Your stomach starts gurgling after a while, to which Piotr chuckles and suggests that the two of you find some lunch.
You let him lead you down the street and into a sandwich shop, a mom and pop sort of a place. A college aged waitress with her hair pulled back into a ponytail greets the two of you with a sunny smile --though it’s largely directed at Piotr.
Not that you blame her, necessarily. Be honest. Who wouldn’t?
“I haven’t seen you here in a while,” she says as she picks up a couple menus. “I was wondering if you’d forgotten all about us.”
“Work was... hectic for a bit,” Piotr replies, tacitly side-stepping the fact that he’s a superhero and that his ‘work’ was babysitting a homicidal maniac.
“Story of my life. Who’s your friend? I don’t think I’ve seen her here before.”
“This is my girlfriend,” Piotr introduces you with a smile that absolutely glows. “I wanted to bring her here for our first date.”
The waitress’s sunny smile dims slightly, but she’s still polite. “Well, congratulations! I’ll make sure I sit you two somewhere a little more private so that you aren’t bothered by the noise or other patrons.”
You end up sitting at a table for two that’s by the front of the shop, out of the way of the incoming traffic. It’s well-lit, positioned by one of the store front windows, and provides an excellent view of the charming street outside. Your waitress takes your drink orders and leaves you with the menus, promising to return in a couple moments.
You peruse the menu at a leisurely pace, lulled into a temporary glowing calm by your time spent basking in his unfiltered affection. Fortunately, you know what you’re doing --the first time Wade took you off the mansion grounds you hadn’t had the foggiest idea of how to even order a meal for yourself. He’d taken it upon himself to catch you up on all the skills necessary to survive in the real world; as far as you’re concerned, it’s worked.
After a few minutes of studying, however, you come to the determination that you really don’t know what to order. None of the staples Wade’s introduced you to are on the menu, and --while everything looks good--you don’t know what to pick. You reach across the table and put your hand on Piotr’s. “Whats good here?”
“Everything. I usually order the grilled chicken and vegetable sandwich.”
You can’t help but grin. “Of course. Always the nutritionist.”
“It’s important to be healthy.”
“It is, it is. I’m not sure I’m feeling that virtuous, though.” You feel a flash of satisfaction at the way the tips of his ears turn red and return your focus to the menu in your hands. “The pulled-pork sandwich looks pretty good. I think I’ll go with that.”
Your waitress reappears a few moments later to take your orders --a grilled chicken and veggie sandwich with a fresh fruit side for him and a pulled pork sandwich and fries for you. She takes the menus and disappears into the kitchen, leaving the two of you alone.
Piotr takes your hands in his, rubbing the pads of his thumbs over your knuckles. “You look adorable today, myshka.”
You duck your head, smiling bashfully. “Thanks. You’re looking good as well --though that’s nothing out of the ordinary.”
His cheeks flush to a lovely rosy color. “Are you enjoying this?”
“Yeah. I really am. This has been really great; it’s nice that we don’t have to worry about Wade ambushing us.”
“Da.” He hesitates --his cheeks flush darker, which looks surprisingly good on him--then gives you a shy, hopeful look. “I want... to do more of this. A lot more.”
A rush of exhilaration runs through you, and you can’t help your excited smile. “Are you saying you want this --us--to be long term?”
“Da. I do.”
“I like the sound of that. I really, really like the sound of that.”
His returning smile is soft and pleased beyond all compare.
Lunch passes quickly --too quickly for your taste. It’s largely dominated by conversation, with occasional comfortable pauses. The two of you talk about your hopes and dreams, your opinions about the world around you, what you want for your futures...
It’s nice. You can’t remember the last time you were able to just spend time with him like this and be.
Whenever the conversation lulls for too long, you ask him to tell you about Russia. He obliges, happily, telling you about the farm he grew up on, his parents, and his sister.
Eventually, he’s covering the bill --upon his insistence, because he can’t not be a gentleman--and you realize that lunch is done and that your date time is quickly coming to a close. As you leave the restaurant, you beg him to show around the town for just a little longer --and he obliges you with literally no resistance whatsoever.
It’s sweet, and you love him for it, but you also have the distinct sense that he’s going to end up creating a bit of a monster out of you.
Towards the end of your stroll around the town, your attention’s snatched away by the distinct, sweet smell of sugar and chocolate. You whip your head around, searching for the source of the heavenly scent, and spy a small confections shop on the opposite corner. “There’s a candy store!” You swoon dramatically, leaning against Piotr as you press your hand against your forehead. “Suddenly, I feel faint! I think it can only be remedied by mass quantities of sugar and chocolate!”
He chuckles as he nudges you upright. “Would you like to go get something?”
“Yes... or, as you would say, da.”
He escorts you across the seat, looking both ways before the two of you cross --because safety, and, to be fair, you probably wouldn’t have if he wasn’t here. He gets the door for you --again, gentleman--and ushers you inside as a bell dings above your heads.
The inside of the shop is light, airy, and decorated in pastels. The far wall is lined with shelves of containers filled with novelty candies --gummy worms, jelly beans, taffies, and the like. Tables loaded with different pastries and treats dot the shop floor. The counter boasts an extensive display case holding dozens of different chocolate treats --and an ice cream cooler, which looks seriously tempting.
A middle aged woman dressed in a mint green polo and a black apron smiles at the two of you. “Hi! What brings you in?”
“My girlfriend wanted to check the shop out,” Piotr says with a smile.
“It was a matter of life and death, Piotr,” You insist cheekily. “I could’ve fainted! Or died!”
The woman chuckles. “Well, we’ve got a great selection of chocolates, candies, and pastries, along with our ice cream that we make in store. My name’s Melody; let me know if I can help you with anything.”
Piotr thanks Melody, but you’re already eyeing your options. You squeeze his hand to get his attention. “Can I get one of everything?”
“Uh, no,” he says with a laugh. “I didn’t bring that much cash with me.”
“I was kidding... mostly.”
The two of you amble around the shop --you because you’re taking your time to seriously evaluate your choices, Piotr because he’s content to follow you and finds your depth of concentration amusing.
Eventually, you decide that you want chocolate and you skip over to the display case.
It doesn’t do much to simplify your decision making process. There have to be at least fifty different types of chocolates in the case.
You smile at Melody. “So, what’s good?”
“Well, the obvious answer is ‘everything,’ but it really depends on your tastes. What do you normally like? Are you a purist, do you like a little crunch, are you a fan of chocolate a fruit combos...”
Your cheery smile dims slightly. Despite his best efforts, this was one area of food Wade hadn’t thoroughly indoctrinated you in. You honestly have no idea what you ought to like, but this seems like something that any normal person would have opinions on. “Uh... I don’t know, actually.” At Melody’s politely confused look, you ad-lib a little lie. “My parents were, uh, health nuts. They didn’t let me have chocolate growing up.”
“Gotcha,” Melody says. “Well, in that case, I’d recommend a covered fruit option; they’re not as rich as some of our other options, so you’re less likely to feel sick after eating ‘em.”
Piotr’s hand comes to rest on the small of your back as she goes through the options --a small but reassuring pressure; he knows how much talking about your parents bothers you. He kisses the top of your head and wraps his arm around your shoulders when you lean against him.
“So, do any of those strike your fancy?”
“Uh...” You peer at the trays of chocolate covered fruits. “I’d like to try... the chocolate covered strawberries.”
“Excellent. It’s one for $3.75 or four for $5.00.”
You smile up at Piotr. “Can I get four?”
“Da,” he murmurs as he kisses your temple. After a little good-natured pestering from you, he also asks for some fudge for himself.
You give him a mock --well, partially mock--incredulous look as Melody packages your orders. “Fudge? I would’ve thought you would’ve gone for something healthy, like the fruit.” You puff out your chest and drop your voice as deep as it will go in a fairly horrible impression of him. “Nutrition is important. Pizza is not breakfast food. Cheetos are not food in general.”
“It is guilty pleasure,” Piotr laughs as he pays for your treats. “And I don’t care what you say, moya lyubov’. Cheetos cannot be food; they don’t even taste like cheese!”
“That’s not the point! The point is that they are crunchy and delicious!”
Piotr simply shakes his head, still smiling, and takes your hand as you leave the shop.
The two of you settle on a bench in the park you started your date in to eat your treats. Piotr hands you your box of chocolate covered strawberries --tied shut with a cute gold ribbon--and a napkin before setting his small box of fudge --and a napkin--in his lap.
You open your box and carefully pick up one of the berries. You study it for a moment, shrug, and bite in.
The chocolate casing shatters.
You let out a squeak and lift your hand up to catch the pieces of runaway chocolate. “Is that supposed to happen?”
“Da.”
It takes a little fumbling, but you manage to stick most of the shards back to the strawberry. You carefully finish your first berry, trying to hold it ‘just so’ so that you don’t drop more chocolate on your skirt.
It’s delicious. Insanely so.
You let out a delighted moan as you start in to your next strawberry. “Where has this been my whole life?”
Piotr smiles as he watches you. “I take it you like them?”
“Oh, hell yeah. This is amazing. I’m going to punch Wade for not introducing these to me.” You take a moment to wipe your fingers on your napkin, then eye his box of fudge. “Mind if I try a bite of yours?”
“Sure.”
You take the chunk of fudge he offers you and --without much thought or consideration--pop the entire piece into your mouth.
A mistake --relatively speaking.
“Oh god,” you mumble around the fudge. “It’s so sweet.”
“That’s why I don’t get it too often.”
“Holy shit. I can actually feel the cavities forming.” You hold out one of your strawberries to him. “Do you want one?”
“No, but thank you, dorogaya moya.”
“Okay. Your loss.”
The two of you finish your treats in relative silence. Well, you finish your strawberries, devouring them with the voracity of a starved velociraptor. Piotr eats maybe a quarter of his fudge, then neatly closes the box and tucks it back in the bag ‘for later,’ like a responsible person would.
He’s such a dad type, and you absolutely adore him for it.
“Do have anything on my face?” You ask as you pat around your mouth with the napkin.
“I think you’re good.” He stand and holds his hand out to you. “We should probably go.”
“Yeah --just hang on a minute.” You hop to your feet, pop up onto your tiptoes, and tug him down by his shirt to give him a kiss.
It’s undeniably perfect. His hands settle at your waist, pulling you in slightly. His lips are soft and warm --and taste a little like fudge, which is excellent. Stack that with the overall glow you’re feeling from the date, and it’s the best damn kiss you’ve ever had.
“I love you,” you murmur when the two of you part. “I really don’t want this to end.”
“I love you too, myshka. But we should probably go.”
“I know,” You groan. “I’ve just really enjoyed today.”
He practically beams down at you. “I’m glad. I had good time as well.”
You bump your head against his chest. “I want to come here again. I really like it out here.”
“We can do that. Whenever you want.”
“Awesome.” You wrap your arms around his massive waist in a hug and let out a happy sigh when he reciprocates. “But, yeah, we should head back. If we stay out any longer, Wade’s gonna take it a sign to set something on fire.”
Piotr stiffens in your arms at and mutters something under his breath in Russian. “Da. Not that I don’t love this --don’t love being here with you--but... da. We should make sure Wade doesn’t burn down house.”
You giggle and take his hand as he heads back to the car.
The drive back to the mansion is too short for your tastes --not from him speeding, because Piotr would never, but just from being engrossed in conversation with him and just being captivated by him in general.
Your heart aches slightly as the mansion comes into sight, officially marking the end of your date.
“I can drop you off at door,” Piotr offers as he pulls up the drive.
“And miss out on the precious minutes of walk time from the garage to the mansion? I think not.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yupp,” You answer, popping the ‘p.’ “To the garage, big guy!”
It only takes a couple of minutes to reach the garage, and less than that for Piotr to park and turn off the car, to your dismay. Before you’ve managed to collect your purse, he’s opening your door and helping you out of the car.
“Thanks for taking me out today. I had a great time.”
“My pleasure, dorogoy.” And then he stoops down and presses his lips against yours.
This kiss is different from the others you’ve shared today. For one, it’s more passionate --he’s holding you closer, kissing your harder. It also lasts much longer, like he doesn’t want to part from you until he absolutely has to.
Eventually, as all things must, the kiss does end.
You’re panting slightly when he pulls back. “Now, that’s what I’d call a proper ‘end of date’ kiss.”
Piotr ducks his head and smiles, cheeks flushed a gorgeous rosy color. “We should go inside.”
You walk with him to the house, still indescribably giddy from your date and the kiss in the garage. You step through the back door --Piotr gets the door for you again--and into the kitchen--
Wade is perched precariously on the counter, lighter in one hand and bottle of vodka with a rag sticking out the top in the other.
“Wade! No!”
You watch, endlessly amused, as your boyfriend surges forward and disarms your best friend.
It’s amazing that this is your life now --a mix of wonderful and crazy that you wouldn’t trade for the world.
You laugh as Wade pouts at Piotr and decide to join the chaos.

Chapter 06: Faith
It had only been a couple minutes since Grillby and Sans had entered the smoking house making sure to leave the door open to start airing it out. Grillby went into the kitchen, seeing through the thick smokescreen like it wasn’t even there. All the while, Sans was internally cringing at the loud beeping emitting through the empty home by the smoke alarm. It was reminding him to uninstall it for when this happened again. The sound continued to grate on his nonexistent nerves even while Grillby grabbed a trash bag and held it open awaiting charred items. One after another, items that had once been a part of their daily life were tossed behind him and landed with a clank inside of the trash bag. Sans was just about to throw a blackened baking pan behind him but was stopped by the warm voice.
“Full.”
“… right.”
Sans glanced out of the corner of his sockets, Grillby was tying the drawstring in multiple knots. Bulges from multiple pans and pots poked the polyethylene of the bag begging for a release from their constraints. He had just been tossing everything that had been blackened, charred, or even had a smoke smell-he had been through this situation enough to know that the smell was daunting to get out, if it ever came out-that he hadn’t realized how much he was truly getting rid of. When Grillby opened another garbage bag behind him, he looked at the counters. All black. Some renovations were going to have to be made. Almost everything in the whole kitchen was black and smelled of smoke. This was probably the worst that this has ever been.
“It’ll be fine.” Grillby tried to assure, but his friend’s crackling voice did nothing to sate his worry or his slight depression. He knew that his brother didn’t mean any harm and he wasn’t truly mad at his brother, he never could be. It was still depressing though to watch his best friend leave with almost all his and Paps’ kitchen items to throw them away.
A couple hours had passed and Grillby and Sans had almost successfully cleared every piece of charred belongings from the home. The trashcans outside were miserably full leaving the living room and kitchen a little barren. Sans could already hear his favorite pen scratching against job applications to raise some money to refill their home. He took a deep breath and closed his sockets-trying to drown out that agonizing beep. Priorities. Getting all of this out was priority-and tossed another baking sheet into the trash bag Grillby was holding open. All the bowls that had been in the living room had to be thrown away which meant he would owe his friends some money or replacements. The smoke from the fire had billowed out and into the air. Sans knelt and opened the small drawer at the bottom of the oven leading to more storage space for their pans along with the many metal utensils that Papyrus liked to keep there much to Sans’ chagrin. He had hoped that these had escaped the smoke and fire’s dangerous heat, but no such luck.
“troublesome fire…” Sans muttered and heard an aggravated crackle from behind him. “excluding present company, of course.”
“That’s what I thought.”
Sans wasn’t afraid of much in life, but Grillbs was one thing that terrified him. It wasn’t that his LV was high, neither was his EXP… but Grillby had something even more terrifying at his disposal; he could tell him-and be serious-about making him pay back his tab. He wouldn’t be able to pay it back even if he worked the rest of his long, long monster life. He would also have a hard time getting a decent paying job since some places were still discriminating against monsters working for them.
“heh, sorry grillbs.”
By the time they got back to the front of the house, the smoke had completely cleared. It was nice to see his house again. Sans was just about to speak when the fire alarm gave another beep, like it was desperate for attention. With a gold flash in his eye and a quick ball of blue fire, the fire alarm had given its last shriek of warning with a large explosion. Out of the corner of his socket, he saw Jason flinch backwards so hard he almost fell. If she hadn’t been there to grab his arm, he might have. Shockingly enough, Fall didn’t even seem phased at him using such intense magic without warning. Many humans still wanted at least a few seconds warning before using any level of magic. Then again, there was just something about Jason that didn’t set right with him. It wasn’t because he was her boyfriend either. Just with the way he side-longed some glances at the monsters, and at Fall. He found himself not liking it. Of course, Grillby had told him before that he had been wrong with people… which was true.
“BROTHER, I AM SORRY FOR RUINING OUR PARTY… MAYBE I’M NOT THE GREAT PAPYRUS AFTER ALL…” If Sans had any blood in his body, it would’ve turned cold. There wasn’t much going on in Sans’ life, however, his docile life with his brother was the thing he cherished the most. Papyrus was always smiling and fun-loving. He was able to make everyone happy without even trying with his cheerful voice and oblivious nature. It was soul breaking to see Papyrus’ shoulders slump in defeat and his smile fade.
“c’mon paps, you know that’s not true.” Sans said and shrugged his shoulders. He trudged over to his younger brother, smirking when he met socket contact with his only family. “things happen, hell, you know that i’ve done some stupid things before. we all have off days, today just happened to be yours.” Seconds felt like hours when Papyrus didn’t answer him right away. What felt like an eternity later, he lifted his head up and the smile had returned with full force,
“YOU’RE RIGHT SANS! TODAY WAS JUST AN “OFF DAY”!” Papyrus complimented and put his hands on his hips and watched as Sans nodded, taking out his comb and running it across his skull absentmindedly before returning it to his shorts pocket. “WELL, NOW THAT OUR HOSUE IS UNABLE TO BE USED FOR THE PARTY, WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO NOW?”
Sans glanced over at the group of people that were with them; the monsters didn’t seem too bothered with the cold. Fall however, even though she was trying to hide it, was shivering. How could he forget to at least let her inside? After all, she wasn’t really dressed well for this occasion. “c’mon, let’s head back inside. it must be cold out here for you.”
“N-No, I’m alright. Don’t worry…” Fall said, her cheeks red. Sans wondered offhandedly if it was from the cold or a blush at being found out that she had been lying. He settled with both.
“hm, too late kid.” Sans muttered under his breath and walked in with the rest of his friends, having Undyne close the door behind the group and ignoring the sigh that came from a tad bit behind him. With a glance at the clock, he noted that it was too early to call it a night, and Paps would be upset if he pooped out. It was only around nine thirty, but he was so exhausted.
“My bar is closed, but if desired, I can open it up and continue the party there.” Grillby adjusted his glasses, the fire crackling as he did so.
“OH DARLING! THAT’S PERFECT!” Mettaton gushed, clasping his hands together.
“YES! IT IS A VERY GOOD IDEA.” Papyrus agreed, his smile even brighter than it had been earlier.
Sans glanced out of the corner of his eye, seeing Fall fiddling with a stray thread on his jacket that she was still wearing. He had been so focused on restoring the house to the best of his abilities he had forgotten. He raised a brow bone and continued to watch her, digging her toe into the carpet. The monsters were chattering among themselves, setting the plan in stone that the party would continue at Grillby’s. “go on ahead, i’ll meet you there.” Sans said and scratched the back of his cranium.
“WE SHALL WAIT IN ANTICIPATION FOR YOUR ARRIVAL!” Papyrus complimented and ran out with some of their friends, the others following close behind.
When Fall glanced at the door and started to head out, he grabbed her wrist. She went rigid and he couldn’t help but think that she was worried about hanging out with a bunch of monsters. Many humans had been like that, even all these years later: they’d pretend they were okay with monsters and want to co-exist with them, but when one touched them or got too close they would revert to their discriminatory ways. Aggravated that he was letting it get to him, he let her wrist go with no words.
“Um…” Fall began, still looking down at the floor. “It’s a walk to Grillby’s and… I don’t have any… pants on…” A tomato red blush covered her face, reaching to the tips of her ears. A small blue blush of his own dusted his cheeks and he scratched at the back of his ivory dome again.
how could i forget that?
Clearing his throat, he glanced at the stairs, “hey, fall, follow me.” He said, seeing her not even hesitate in following him. How could he have been so rude in thinking that Fall was like those other humans he had encountered? He would have to apologize to her later and take whatever punishment she would deem adequate to group her in with those discriminatory humans. Hell, maybe he was a bit of the same way as those humans. He didn’t like that thought though. Thankfully, his door had been closed so his room remained untouched by the smoky smell of the fire. Among the mess in his room, her costume still laid perfectly neat on his sheet-less bed. “hey, kid, putting that back on isn’t going to help you with the cold.”
“Well that’s true,” She agreed holding the costume in her hand with her other on the zipper of his jacket. “Either way, it’s not like I can just keep these clothes.”
Sans was too busy sifting through his messy closet to answer her, not that there was anything to say. He may be lazy and somewhat nihilistic, but even he wasn’t soulless enough to let her make the trip to Grillby’s in just a T-shirt and a jacket. If they teleported, it would knock out all of the walking, but at the same time being at the party in a bar may be a little awkward for her. A smile came to his face when he held up the piece of fabric he was looking for,
“Basket ball shorts?” Fall asked.
“yeah, put these on. i don’t really have much variety in the clothes department, but, something is better than nothing right kid?”
This time, it was her turn to not respond. She held the shorts in her hands, the blush still on her face. How in the world did she have enough gumption to give him her phone number when she was standing here blushing at everything he did or said? Maybe he would ask her about that later, if he remembered. “i’ll wait outside.” He left and closed the door behind him. She hadn’t been phased seeing him decimate his smoke alarm with magic, but randomly teleporting may have been too much for the already frazzled girl. A few moments later, she came out with the shorts on and the drawstring tightened to make sure that they stayed on her hips. She had taken off the jacket and held it out to him, which he declined. “monsters aren’t as prone to the elements as you humans are.” He informed. “so keep it, i’ll get it back from you later.” Shoving his hands in his own shorts, he smirked when she was donned in his jacket again. “y’know, i wondered a lot of the time what i would look like as a girl, but with you dressed like that, i can get a pretty good idea.”
“H-Hey!” Fall said and zipped up the jacket.
“it’s a compliment kid.”
With Fall in tow, he walked towards the door and had a phalange over the light switch. “did you want to walk, or we could-“
“Do that teleport thing you do?”
“y-yeah… how-“
“Well, you’ve been coming to my store for a few years, sometimes you would use your magic outside of the store to get back home quicker.” Fall admitted, playing with the same thread she had been previously. “I don’t mind going that way… as long as it’s not too hard on you.”
“alright.” Sans went over and touched the small of her back. “i need close contact to bring you with.” In truth, he didn’t know how close one needed to be. She was the first person he had tried it with other than... He knew it would work, there was no questions about that. He just wanted to make sure that it would be okay for her to be this close to him. When she didn’t protest, he took a step forward and brought them both in the void between this part of the world and the next. They came out right in front of Grillby’s. Fall staggered a bit and grabbed onto the sleeve of his shirt for stabilization.
“S-Sorry…” She stammered but gripped on tighter.
“no need to be sorry, kid. the first person i took with me puked when we-for lack of a better word-landed.” “O-Oh…” Fall blinked, and her grip loosened on his shirt enough to where she could stand up on her own. “Maybe it’s something humans have to get used to.”
“hm, maybe.” Sans guided her into the bar by the small of her back.
By the time they got in the bar, everything and everyone was in full force. Grillby was behind the counter serving drinks and food to his friends, continuously shining his favorite glass. Out of the corner of his socket, he saw Papyrus and Undyne sitting in a booth with Alphys. Jason and…the girl… were sitting at the bar awaiting some food. Muffet was helping to serve the food that all the friends were ordering while Mettaton was providing entertainment in the form of singing and dancing while Napstablook was playing music for them. Everyone seemed to be having a good time.
“SANS! YOU MADE IT!” Papyrus exclaimed when he noticed the party of two that had come into the bar. He hopped up out of his seat, onto the table and jumped to the floor in front of them. All the while Sans had his hands in his pockets. It was perfectly normal to watch his brother climb onto things he wasn’t supposed to. “WE WERE BEGINNING TO WONDER WHERE YOU WERE. OH! SMALL HUMAN! YOU’RE WEARING SANS’ CLOTHES.”
“she didn’t have any, so i let her borrow some of mine.”
“SHE LOOKS LIKE THE HUMAN GIRL VERSION OF YOU!” Papyrus said and smiled brightly at Fall who had been taken aback by his very robust compliment. “IT LOOKS VERY GOOD ON YOU!”
“T-Thank you Papyrus.”
“OF COURSE, SMALL HUMAN! ANY FRIEND OF SANS’ IS A FRIEND OF MINE! NOW IF YOU’LL EXCUSE ME, I’M TRYING TO SOLVE THIS WEEKS PUZZLE IN THE PAPER ALPHYS BROUGHT.” With another hop onto his table, he sat back down on his side of the booth, intently training his sockets on the words in front of him. Sans shrugged his shoulders and went to the bar, taking a seat and helping her onto his.
“What puzzle is he trying to solve?”
“the horoscope.”
“The…”
“yep.” Sans looked at Fall with his ever-present smile. “grillbs, can i get a burger for the lady here and an order of fries for me?”
Without a word, Grillby headed towards the back to cook their orders after setting a bottle of ketchup down in front of him. It wouldn’t take too long, after all, a flame elemental monster could control the fire in his kitchen better than any human stove or oven could. That’s part of the reason why he liked coming to Grillby’s, other than to spend time with his best friend. The food was always cooked exactly how you liked it, even if you didn’t tell him. Sans was focused on the sounds around him, sipping on the ketchup Grillby had left him. The smell of the food was wafting from the kitchen via the small gap at the bottom of the door. No doubt, the food would be done soon. He could already taste the food that would be sat in front of him. The fries would be worth the headache of throwing away a lot of the kitchen appliances.
“Um… Sans?”
“hm?” He swallowed the ketchup that was in his mouth and turned the barstool, hearing the all too familiar creak.
“How did you know to order me a burger?”
“when we were at my house, i saw you eyeing it with everything you are.” He couldn’t help but chuckle when Fall blushed a deep red. “no need to be so embarrassed about it. grillbs food is the best.” As if on cue, Grillby came out and sat the plates down in front of them, putting another bottle of ketchup on the counter. “aw, and i didn’t even have to ask.”
“Not for you.” Grillby said and pointed a thumb at Fall’s burger.
“fine. you win.” Sans held up his hands in defeat.
“Can I get you anything else, Miss?” Grillby politely asked.
always a charmer.
“Um, can I have a bit of alcohol?” Fall was meek about it. Why? This was a bar, order all the alcohol you want. “If it’s not too much trouble.”
“Of course, it isn’t too much trouble.” Grillby assured. “What would you like?”
“Um… I-I’m not too good with names. So just whatever you think would be good.”
“As you wish.”
Sans watched Grillby work at lightning speed, popping a fry into his mouth every now and again. It was nice to hear everyone laughing when just a few minutes ago it was full of sadness at almost catching their home on fire. He was worried that it was going to ruin their night, but of course, he should’ve known better. When it comes to Papyrus, no one can stay sad around him, so he ends up making everyone have a good time. The drink that he sat down in front of Fall was bright, colorful, and smelled nice. Her eyes widened, and she picked up the glass and looked at it.
“Wow! It’s so pretty…”
“well kid,” Sans saw motion out of the corner of his socket near the other end of the bar. “alcohol isn’t meant to just look pretty. taste it.”
“Right. Right.” She took a small sip from the straw that he had placed in the blue-green color show in a cup. “Ooh! Wow… This is really good.”
“I’m glad you like it.”
The more time that passed, the more Fall drank. The more that Fall drank, the more she would talk. The more that she would talk, the more she would get embarrassed; wash, rinse, and repeat until she was now the staggering mess next to him. She was on her third burger and fifth order of fries. She could really pack away some food. He was glad that she was eating that much bread and stuff that way she wouldn’t get sick. He had learned from her that it was a common thing for humans to do; surprisingly, it was recommended. It had been strange to him when they first arrived on the surface, but now it seemed obvious and normal. Papyrus was slamming his hand down on the table, excited that he had solved another puzzle in the Junior Jumble book that Sans had bought for him.
“Well, Frisk, are you ready to go?” Sans heard Jason from the other side of the bar.
“Yeah, it’s getting late and I’m pretty tired.”
Sans didn’t really care where they went or what they did and continued watching Grillby and a drunk Fall continue their very weird conversation on how Grillby could touch things without getting burnt. Now her inquisitiveness had went to his clothes. However, one thing that sent his attention the humans’ way was what Jason had whispered to her.
“Next time, can you not invite me to parties like these? It gets really uncomfortable with all these monsters around.”
“Jason, stop that.” She had whispered back. Sans wasn’t really too shook about it, considering there were so many humans that still weren’t accepting and from the way that he had been acting through the night, it wasn’t a shock. What came next though…
“What? You can’t tell me it’s not weird. Especially that tall skeleton. Why does everyone try to kiss up to him? They’re all making it sound like he can cook and he’s talented but he’s not. He’s weird and a terrible cook. I mean he almost burned his own house down.”
The pinpricks for pupils that he had disappeared leaving nothing but black sockets devoid of any positive emotion. No one around, but Grillby seemed to notice. He didn’t ask but gave Sans a curious glance that did not get a anything in return.
“No, Paps can’t cook, but he makes up for it with spirit and determination. He doesn’t let anything falter his spirit and he’s a good skeleton.” She commented, defending Paps. It wasn’t like Sans didn’t expect her to defend Papyrus, but that she continued to walk out with Jason washed away her defense like it hadn’t even happened.
“Whatever, it sounds to me like he’s just pathetic.”
Sans squeezed the ketchup bottle, listening to the air escape the nozzle at the top. Just as the jingle of the bell sounded through the store signifying their leave, Sans teleported outside and stood in front of them earning an alarmed sound from Jason and a confused one from her. His eyes held no emotion but loathing and anger.
“S-Sans?” The girl commented, seeing the expression on his face.
“stay out of this.” Sans ordered, his tone deepening a little bit. “this is between me and him.”
“What? You and me don’t have any business.”
“Sans… You-“
“quiet.” Sans commanded, and she listened. “you have a problem with my brother, huh?”
“…”
“i’m waiting.”
“W-Well n- ah!” Jason yelled when Sans threw a bone in his direction scraping against the side of his face. “What are you doing?”
“Sans, stop!”
“monsters are pathetic huh?” Sans questioned, shooting a smaller bone his way, not intending to hit him. “papyrus has more heart than some of you humans ever will.” Papyrus was his weak spot. All their friends knew it, when something was said or done against his brother, all thoughts or morals went out the window. With a snap of his finger, he was surrounded by four Gaster Blasters, all pointing towards Jason. A tug on his sleeve, prevented another attack.
“I said ‘stop’!” Sans’ sharp glare looked down at his sleeve and saw his old friend attached to it for dear life.
“defending someone like him, huh? heh, figured as much. all you humans stick together.” His words were filled with venom as he flung his arm, sending the girl a few feet away from him on her butt. His attention turned from the girl back to the cowering Jason. His smile turned more into a smirk and he snapped his phalanges, making the blasters disappear. “be thankful you have that girl with you.”
“W-What? Why? What does Frisk have to do with this?” Jason asked, falling to his knees his legs being unable to keep him standing anymore. He screamed out when he was pulled towards Sans, nose to nose hole.
“’cause buddy, without her,” Sans chuckled humorlessly, his sockets searing holes into Jason’s eyes. Their gaze was so intense it felt like time had stopped. “Y o u ‘ d  b e  d e a d  w h e r e  y o u  s t a n d.” With a flick of his wrist, Jason was sent further away, and a pained grunt escaped his lips upon impact. He knew that he didn’t break the human’s bones, he would’ve been able to tell. He sure was going to have one hell of a bruise there, that was for sure. He shoved his hands back in his pockets, having his back turned to the scene he had created between him and the two humans. He heard the girl get up and head towards where her boyfriend lay, “. . . don’t let me catch either of you around my brother again.”
The girl sounded like she was about to cry with her small, pitiful voice. “B-But, Sans… I-“ He turned and looked at the girl, his sockets still black with anger.
“E i t h e r  o f  y o u.” His tone of finality shut her up in just a split second. He left both humans outside. He couldn’t believe it. She had defended him… Jason… the one who had insulted his brother. Humans really stuck together, even in these times. That must’ve been the reason that she wanted to leave the Underground. She just wanted to go back to the humans… They had been friends for years… At least he thought so. He wanted to believe it, but maybe it would be better if they hadn’t been… then it wouldn’t hurt this bad. Even if she didn’t explicitly agree with Jason, she wanted him to not hurt Jason. Why? He could only imagine how that would’ve hurt Papyrus if he had really heard it. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to know. He had lost all faith in Jason (not that he had much to begin with), he lost hope in humans, he lost faith in Frisk.

In loving memory of Gabby Nuñez (1998-2017) taken far too soon because of the emotional toll brought by call the midwife, she didn’t choose to get so emotionally invested it just happened. She is grateful for her time on earth, you may leave comments, flowers or send money. Thank you for putting up with her nonsense and foolishness *now someone give my eulogy & someone else may come up and sing a hymn to conclude*
