What do you think Toby’s relationship is with alcohol and stuff like smoke? You think he gets triggered like what if Tim were to smoke infront of him (pretty sure Frank smoked?) would he get triggered or something?

ooo ok ok. tw for mentions of abuse, alcoholism, etc under the cut

toby represses stuff very heavily. after about 3-4 years post-killing his dad, (so he'd be about 20+), he'd just not think about it. it's not that he's "healed" by any means, but he just think he has bigger things to worry about

he feels a bit more towards alcohol than cigarettes, and he'd get irritated with Anybody who drank ages 17-19. but, his mom would have a few glasses of wine every now and again, and it just relaxed her. she would just kinda sit in her chair and watch tv quietly. occasionally toby would find her weeping. so he knows that alcohol isn't like, strictly an agent of destruction and abuse and all things horrible (not that he thinks its good in any way)

if he knows someone is more of like, a goofy 'fun' drunk, or an emotional crying drunk, or immediately wanting to sleep, or anything along those lines - he doesn't really care. he drinks socially, though he never really gets further than being tipsy. he hasn't sworn it off or anything, he doesn't have that much self restraint

BUT if he notices that someone is more aggressive when they're drunk, even if it's just confrontational rather than violent, he gets irritated. often he'll egg them on and purposefully try to get into a fight with them, calling them sloppy and say they're embarrassing themselves and whatever. it's probably because thats the shit he'd NEVER get to say to frank without risking the entire family, and because he just wants their drinking to be as unpleasant as possible.

frank would smoke in the same damn armchair everyday and night, missing the ashtray half the time. so toby has an issue with people smoking indoors and being careless with cigarettes, he thinks it's ridiculous and dirty and whatnot. so he'll probably get aggravated and say something if someone is smoking indoors. BUT tim also thinks its gross smoking indoors, so he only does it outside - which toby's fine with. he gets pissed if he sees tim just leaving used cigarettes lying around

it's not so much that he'll be triggered in the sense of a flashback and begin crying and whatnot, but he'll get irritated if things fit into a certain memory or resemble franks aggression/carelessness. and he'll say something everytime, he's not the type to bite his tongue - especially now that he can defend himself

TLDR; he doesn't mind unless a drunk person gets aggressive or someone smokes indoors. he drinks socially at times. he doesn't smoke cigarettes.

He actually stayed under my radar for a while but. You cannot hand me a pint-sized brick shithouse with a cute squished face and a distressingly atrophied sense of self and not expect me to eventually latch on. I think the arc with him and Tanigaki especially drove me insane...he tries so hard to be someone's weapon, no mercy, just mindless pursuit, but then it all falls apart to leave the pain that's been at his core for all those years.

AND THEN THE LAST ARC. I...was honestly expecting to lose him here, if I'll be real. It was giving me the vibe of a 'character doubles down on his fucked up mindset and it leads him to his end' kind of scenario. It's not surprising in the least, but it always kills me(positive) how he never actually breaks away from Tsurumi, it's just that Tsurumi is torn from him. Koito pleads for Tsurumi to set Tsukishima free...but I don't think Tsurumi could've done that if he even wanted to. It was always only up to Tsukishima, but after all those years of violence and manipulation he couldn't bring himself to make any other choice .

And that choice lead him back to the ocean. Again searching for a body, searching for direction.

Reading up and going through the tags for Tuesday is VERY interesting...but given the nature of who (or I guess what) he is I have to ask. Does he ever experience any glitches/malfunctions?

His early design was intended to be simple, and then rapidly spiraled down a rabbit hole of added features to be of use to either Chuu and later Keathan, who Tuesday was sent off to since she could not be forced at gunpoint to go to Ishgard (she does eventually. She was just. Extremely resistant.)

Which means there’s some places where there were mild hiccups… like walking and talking is hard for him and he WILL either walk straight into obstacles or stop randomly (mid step, which looks somewhat silly) (less of a malfunction and more of a… processing overload I’d suppose though…)

He also can learn and use Blue Magic? Though he’s typically kitted for Black, since it’s more reliable, and Keathan knows it, so they can guide him in the technique. Some Blue can be hard on the body so it was a sort of failsafe to just prevent it from the start. (That…. And he’s done the in-game equivalent of fat-fingering a button he hadn’t meant to. It took months to get the Bad Breath smell out of Chuu’s clothes when she got caught in the radius. He was supposed to aqua cannon. To this day he’s still not sure why ‘water cannon’ and ‘noxious poisonous breath’ felt identical, and Chuu is still not sure if it was actually a bug or if Tuesday was just seeking retribution for installing his arms backwards that one time. (She could never really get the glitch to repeat…)

There’s several points in his development where he has a learning curve, like when Chuu upgrades from pre-programmed movements and walk-cycles to ‘learned’ movements (It was LESS processing to let Tuesday move everything himself than to run movement files in succession to do things like pick up cups and such. Especially since not everything is uniformly placed..) so he had to learn grip strength and moving his arms/legs— and not chopping through the cutting board, or picking up a pillow and flinging it straight into the air overhead because he didn’t recall he had to keep HOLDING it. Lots of ‘doesn’t recognize how much force is necessary’ and ‘learning to walk all over again sucks’ kinda moments until he gets his sea legs so to speak. Being a person is hard.

And writing this all down I do think it would be funny if he had a glitch at one point that swapped his vocal cadence and diction so that he started singing like it was a gd musical…. Ballad of Dragons of somethin’ I’m sure a moogle would laugh

7. what type of weapon does your character use?

HMMM. I had to sit on this for a second because I had a couple different ideas. Aster probably knows how to use a couple of different weapon due to [insert backstory sillies here] but I think I’m settling on the idea of some sort of chained weapon. Either just dual blades attached by a chain or the chain itself being part of the weapon!!!

Visually I think it works well just because of aster’s actual character themes (having their emanator abilities sealed/chained via the IPC)

8. what are the major visual motifs in your character’s battle animations?

I have a couple of solid ideas. Aster already has a lot of astral/star/sparkly aesthetics in her design so a lot of that would translate over to her combat animations. Being an Nhility character, she’s basically just causing mass confusion among enemies via her friendly-fire like debuffs. So I can see a lot of fog/mist like visuals with chains surprise attacking enemies to apply her special debuff :D

11. what are your character’s basic, skill, and ultimate attacks?

Aster is Nihility/Quantum and instead of doing any sort of in-game DOT she has a unique debuff gimmick thats a cross between SW’s weakness implanting & Kafka’s ‘domination’ ability. Where Aster can parry/deflect incoming attacks onto other enemies, a lowkey sustain hybrid + has FUA synergies

Basic: Deals Quantum DMG equal to X% of Aster’s ATK to a single enemy

Skill: [Single Target] There is an X% chance for the enemy target to become [unique Aster-related debuff effect]. For the next 2 turns instead of attacking an ally, said target will attack a random enemy instead. Gains 1 stack(s) of [insert FUA counter here]

Ultimate: [Bounce] There is an X% chance for the enemy target(s) to become [unique Aster-related debuff effect]. For the next 2 turns, Aster will gain 1 stack of [insert FUA counter here] each time an enemy attacks another enemy.

Talent: Aster gains special stacks after enemies who are under the influence of her Skill or Ultimate attack each other. After gaining X amount of stacks, Aster will unleash a follow-up attack & the stack counter will reset.

do you have a favorite OC (assuming you have at least one you're attached to)? what are they like? how long have you had them, and have they changed in any notable ways since you first got them?

thank you so much for the ask! i have not been ignoring it (or any others!), i am just colossally slow about character stuff and have to mull it over for ages.

my favorite oc would absolutely have to be kelis, my dragonborn druid durge - yes it is... very alliterative. they are the first really fleshed out character i made, playing through the game blind in august, and i am truly just incredibly attached to them, in part because of what an experience that was. i've written a fair amount of fic that involves them, in either major or minor ways.

the question about change is so interesting? i would say definitely yes, they have changed a fair amount from my first conception of them. i have a work i wrote with them in september that is deeply precious to me, but i don't know if i will ever publish it, since it doesn't completely align with the better understanding i have of their character now.

kelis is based around an exploration of someone who does "good" things for... complex reasons. she's not evil, but she's also not unequivocally good. she doesn't inherently have a well of care for the people around her, but they have to work their way in through time and shared experience.

it's a bit difficult to describe, because to an outside observer, she comes across as a brusque, but well-meaning and humanitarian person. to the tieflings, for instance, that is who she is to them. two exceptions to that are probably mol, and rolan, who have their own reasons to recognize that aspect about her more readily than others.

graphic design is my passion so i made a visual representation of the progression of people coming to understanding her.

she has a very alien internal experience of the world, which is something i try to highlight and explore with her. she - mostly unknowingly - tends to break people's expectations of her at first - and second - meetings. e.g., she takes to her owlbear form readily in most fights, leading many casual observers to consider her something of a brainless meathead, when in fact the opposite is true. correspondingly, people are often surprised to find just how much she delights in new knowledge and experiences.

It really isn’t nearly talked about enough that the thing that got Andrew to actually look at Neil and become interested was (as cited by Neil himself at some point tho I can’t remember in which book that scene is from the top of my head) Neil’s bone-deep jealousy of Kevin. It’s—it ties into that whole epiphany that Neil has at some point, when he looks at Andrew and realizes that while he is hurtling towards his own breaking point and about to burn out and shatter into something he’s not sure he’d recognize if he survived the encounter, Andrew hit that point and broke from it years ago. And that’s an understanding that goes both ways between them—in a fucked up way, it feels like Andrew might be the future that Neil has waiting for him if he doesn’t end the year six feet under: hollow and drifting, passionless after everything he had to rip away from himself to be able to survive. At the same time, Neil probably reminds Andrew of how he used to be, back when he had hope for things only to have that hope rip him apart—which is exactly where Neil seems to be headed for the majority of the story.

I think that a lot of Andrew’s understanding of Neil comes from the fact that he knows intimately what it feels like to be caught between a rock and a hard place and cut his own lifeline, only to then fail to die on impact. Neil hasn’t had to resort to that yet, but he is hanging by a thread. You’d think that watching him struggle would only serve to drive it home for Andrew that he made the right choice in closing himself off, except… well. His expectations of life and the people in it are so bleak, it’s no wonder he finds himself drawn to Neil’s messy emotions and every unexpected show of spine like a moth to a flame.

Neil, for all of his issues and scars, can still feel things—can still want something so badly it defies all logic. Can want something with such visceral, fucked-up intensity that it resonates where it shouldn’t. It’s an ability that Andrew thinks he’s either lost or cut out of himself to stay somewhat safe, sane and alive a long time ago, but that remains as the most fundamental crack in the foundation of his being. It’s a fascination that seems to come out every time he’s sober and eventually ties into him wanting Neil—wanting something worth wanting and putting a name to it once he finds it. They look at each other and don’t want a watered-down version of the person in front of them. It creates a relationship that embraces issues big and small and accepts (even values!) the messy parts of being human. It means that any space shared between them immediately becomes safe once they settle into something comfortable together. The way they handle the uglier sides of each other’s personality honestly makes me feral because it’s always done with understanding and acceptance and they even find positives or comforts there that the other can’t see and that’s probably a reason for why 1) their chemistry is so off the charts and 2) their relationship is so damn healthy (in addition to their communication being stupidly good when it comes to each other).

Andrew wants something real and Neil wants to be real. And then they get to have exactly that.

Kicking my feet um um what haven't I talked about yet for hal. Oh let's talk about his various jobs <3. He was a test pilot at ferris air when he first got the ring, and then he quit when carol got engaged (to some guy idk) and he was tourism pilot in Idaho for like a single issue!

And then he was an insurance claims adjuster for a while until he got sick of that and quit, and then then he was a toy salesman! And then hard traveling heroes happened so he just kinda wandered around with ollie for a bit.

And then he got a job as a truck driver until his truck was totaled by a wave. And then he got a job back at ferris but then ferris was bombed and they were going to start laying people off so he was looking for new piloting jobs but nobody would hire him because he was "too fearless" which made him "a liability". He slayed too close to the sun I guess </3 (<- parallax joke)

Anyways after working at ferris for a bit he was a freelance test pilot and then he ran his own air taxi business <3

hmmm off the top of my head—idk if it counts since the subject matter is totally different but i'm big on old romantic era landscape paintings and the like.

also really big on a lot styles based on ink drawing or printing? like this is like a really broad category and my personal tastes can include things like old biological diagrams and botanicals, creepy vintage illustrations and inspired styles, whatever the fuck fransisco goya was doing in his print series, etc. the scary stories guy also comes to mind though i'm pretty sure he's dealing w/ different mediums. ALSO going off of that i'm using this opportunity to plug Mateusz Skutnik games bc daymare town is one of my big faves art wise and i go through it like once a year at minimum

yeah difference layers are my best friend lol, even if my version of paint tool sai doesn't have them. i'll use them on like my lines layers too to help them merge better before painting or to add like quick gradients to things

absolutely i can!! long rambling below the cut:

so hollyleaf comes from a very, very long book series called warrior cats. it's wildcats in societies. they have a religion and it's real and has magic powers. i do not recommend this series.

so hollyleaf. hollyleaf is one of three protagonists of the third arc called the power of three. yeah a little on the nose. the other protagonists are her brothers but this isn't fucking about them

hollyleaf very obsessively subscribes to the arbitrary rules and beliefs of her society, and is constantly thinking about her and others' morality and "doing what's right". this is half her own thing and half a product of her society's hard emphasis on heroism and there only being One Way To Be a Good Person.

one of these arbitrary rules is that the healers in the societies can't have mates. this is because it's falsely believed they will prioritize their family over other patients. yes it's bullshit, yes everyone in the entire fandom collectively agrees on that.

leafpool was a protagonist in the previous arc, where she eloped while breaking 2 major arbitrary boyfriend rules: from a different group, and she was a healer. she decided to return when she learned her mentor was dying and broke up with her (honestly shitty) boyfriend. but oops! already pregnant!

leafpool is encouraged by the dead people religion to have her litter and have her sister serve as a surrogate mother so nobody finds out. her sister does not want children. she has a very unstable relationship and she does not want more things that could jeopardize her (honestly shitty) boyfriend. she is lied to by the dead people religion so she agrees.

hollyleaf and her brothers are raised never knowing anything until a big event we don't need to get into right now where their adoptive mother reveals it to save them from being killed by her ex (WE DON'T NEED TO GET INTO IT RIGHT NOW.) he bails on his evil plan and decides to reveal her secret to everyone instead.

this. Breaks. Hollyleaf.

hollyleaf has built her entire life around this system that she believes in more than anything else. now, she has learned her very existence defies this system. she. is. Not. Okay

so, one night, hollyleaf kills him.

this breaks her further. now, she has three very, very deplorable things she will never be able to change about herself that she believes make her fundamentally Wrong.

so the night he was going to reveal it, in front of all the groups of wildcats, hollyleaf does it herself. without warning Anyone.

hollyleaf sprints back to her home and confronts leafpool. she tries to force her to cause her own death via poisonous berries. leafpool drops one of the hardest lines in the entire serious out of nowhere, "Which do you think would cause me more pain? To die, or continue living?"

hollyleaf sprints out of her home. her brothers catch up to her in time to watch her escape through a cave that promptly collapses (it was set up as unstable before this dw about it.)

hollyleaf is now dead.

except she isn't.

hollyleaf is very much alive, though seriously injured, and is slowly cared for by another cat in the tunnels. she stays there for nearly a year, periodically spying on her home and supplying anonymous aid before retreating to the tunnels underneath the territory. when two cats from her group get lost in the tunnels, she finally decides to return after helping them find their way out.

there's a lot of stuff after that, but the main thing is this:

hollyleaf dies in a huge battle to save one of those cats. a book after she returned. if it sounds like i'm still pissed off about that even after first reading it 6 years ago it's BECAUSE I AM.

now the thing with hollyleaf is that because warriors is so badly written, a lot of it comes from personal interpretation. i doubt the authors actually had any of these deeper things in mind, but i do, and i actually remember my character's eye colors (we don't need to get into that right now) so i'm correct.

tl;dr: hollyleaf is my favorite character in warrior cats and one of my favorite characters of all time. she has a fantastically horrific arc in which she spends half her life being morally superior, and then she has several mental breaks and commits heinous acts. she is an awful person. she is a murderer. and i love her very very deeply

hiii i'm fine atm, a bit stressed because of school but oh well

this ask came and kicked me in the ass, cause i haven't written a single word in what feels like forever (probably like two or three weeks). hoping i'll feel inspired by talking about them so let's go with the last three I've opened!

ok there's this sskk "only one bed" fic that i've actually finished more than 2 year ago, there's a bit of crack a bit of fluff and tbh a lot of ooc but i'm still considering whether i want to post it; i like to re-read it every now and then but i intend to translate it in english if i do post it so the extra step is blocking me

one the latest ideas i got is a 5+1 fic that is quickly becoming a Ramuda character study (i didn't even know i liked that pink bastard until now)

Malocchio! (that's the document title) it's a retelling of Giovanni Verga's 1878 short story Rosso Malpelo (x) and it's my oldest (year 6 on and of of it babyy) and most ambitious project, cause it's very research-heavy and my brain decided it needs to have cohesive Themes. i want to share it soo bad but it takes a lot of effort, so writing slowly it is. (if i ever publish this i'll need to "establish" a whole fandom tag; a great honor but also a scary one)
