Hii!! 😸😸 First off, just want to say your art is amazing!! Your use of texture and color is so inspiring and beautiful to look at. You've posted about brushes before, but out of curiosity, what drives you to them? Do you have any general "likes" that really draw you in? Any common motives with how you play with textures and qualities in your art?

It depends, like most things, although there are certain qualities I look for almost 100% of the time, like opaqueness (I don't blend), interesting stamp shape (texture!), and versatility (I rarely use a brush for one thing exclusively). I also tend to sometimes heavily tweak my most-used brushes to make them more enjoyable to draw with

I recently bought an oil paint brushset (this one; it's $20 but if you message me I'll give you the download for free, I don't care) because I was interested in trying to recreate the textures of oil paint in my own art after admiring a lot of traditional paintings. I like brushes that make me actively think about how to best apply them and find ways that do and don't work

I almost never use brushes that lack pen pressure or are like, hard rounds, because I think the lack of depth they provide isn't interesting to look at. If I use airbrushes (rarely) I want them to have grain or I'll feel the same way. I also like going back and retroactively adding grain or turning sharpness all the way up because of the jpeg-esque feel it gives my art, I think it looks really nice, and I don't care about image quality most of the time so I have no problem distorting things like that

I can't lie, I find it very odd that posts cautioning people against donating to individual* campaigns and promoting the idea of supporting mutual aid efforts and community kitchens in Gaza can rack up 10k+ notes--while a post promoting a community kitchen (that I can personally vouch for) struggles to get 1k notes, and has barely pulled in a couple hundred dollars over the past week.

I actively try to avoid using guilting tactics in fundraising, but this is weird to me. It's like people are using these posts as an excuse not to do things they already didn't want to do anyway, rather than actually taking their recommendations on board...

*In my experience, these campaigns often support large extended families + their neighbours

Honestly GG has been one of the least time-intensive (with regard to actually grasping the story/characters) things I've ever gotten into compared to, say, Persona 5, where the main story can take ~100 hours to complete or Yakuza which has a morbillion games and even more spinoffs

I'll give you an insider secret 🤫 and tell you that I don't actually play GG (don't have the system for it and I'd be bad at it regardless) and just watched all of the story+arcade modes on Youtube with my boyfriend and that only took a couple days while I was on college break late last year... Of course, there's a lot of side stuff like the novels/catch-up manga/etc. but for reference all of Xrd's story including Revelator+Rev 2 are up on Youtube in one six hour video! That's like six episodes of a Netflix show

New community kitchen serving Mawasi Al-Qarara refugee camp in west Gaza

This is an initiative aiming to buy food, diapers, and other necessities in bulk to distribute to the residents of Mawasi Al-Qarara camp. The campaign is vouched for by one of my contacts in Gaza, who lives in the camp and will be helping with distribution.

From the campaign page:

The families in the Mawasi Al-Qarara area are facing unbearable challenges, being displaced from their homes and living under the constant threat of missiles, disease, and starvation. We aim to provide as much aid as possible using every penny given to us. Mohammed and his brothers, Salah and Youssef, will be on the ground distributing everything to the people of the camp. These families are in desperate need of help. We hope to alleviate some of their fears and worries of death by starvation or illness, as they navigate such challenging circumstances.
