If MC and Rebecca had a big, serious arguement, whose side would ROs be, at our current stage of romance (beginning of B3)?
Do all the units have human handlers, or are there supernaturals in Rebecca's position as well?
How long was UB under Rebecca's supervision and how often did UB change their handlers?
Sorry for always coming in with multiple questions, maybe you recognize me for that already (better if not, haha!). It's just when I wonder about one thing, another one pops up, and then one more and more and more. I'm so eager to know more about your world, your characters.
Hm, I think most would try to stay out of it (except F, who just loves to me in the middle of everything, lol!).
A would definitely keep neutral.
N would try to patch it up but probably take MC's side if forced.
M would definitely be on MC's side.
F would also be MC's side.
Wow, you know, I didn't actually realise just how many would take MC's side until now...how things have changed in just a few (in-game} months for this team! :D
-
90% of units have handlers, not all of them are human but most are.
-
UB have had quite a few handlers, but that's only because they live for so long :D
Rebecca has been with them...a good while. It would be spoilery to say more than that!
--
Thank you so much for the asks! I love that you are curious about Wayhaven and its characters! Knowing people want to know more about it all is always intensely exciting :D

at the agency conference, a would attend every single leadership and board meeting begrudgingly, n would give a few lectures and be involved in a few panels and be surrounded by a crowd at all times, m would find a quiet place in the atrium and do the mandatory continuing education without attending any lectures, f would make friends with everyone and have the best time at the day two themed-party

This scene has been living in my head rent-free, it was such a powerful moment! "I will give you everything I own and more. I would give you my life."🥺
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I haven't played the other RO routes yet, so I've been wondering, how does it go for them? Are they all using their unique abilities to get through the crowd? Or does it go similarly?
Because this scene made me think we finally got a glimpse at Nate's tier X abilities. I highlighted some parts: the crowd parting without noticing, placing his hand on the supernatural's shoulder, his tone like molten gold and looking pale afterwards...
...And now I'm back to thinking about the whole Queen's Sabre massacre and how Nate is clearly feeling guilty about his past, yet he was judged as not guilty by Falk. Ugh, how I wish we found out more about his past! I do have my theories but I so want to hear it from him, especially since it's clear how much this is eating him up... He's so afraid to open up to MC!
In any case, I loved seeing Nate's other side in this book! (And I don't mean his horny side now, even though that was a treat too😏) He has always been as careful as possible when fighting their enemies but in book 3, there are plenty of instances where he loses his control because MC is in danger. It's clear how much he's been holding back.
The first time I read the auction scene, I got goosebumps when he showed up, seeing him in such power and control!🔥 And I have a feeling this is still far from his full abilities...
Either way, I would love to hear your thoughts and any inputs about how Adam/Mason/Felix scene looks like!

The art of losing
Fandom: The Wayhaven Chronicles Characters: f!detective (Sadie Langford) & Unit Bravo Word count: ~2.5k A/N: Here's my secret santa for @nsewell. I had so much fun getting to know Sadie for this @wayhavensecretsanta! She's a sweetheart and I hope I did her justice. I hope you'll enjoy this!!
A yell echoes down the corridors as soon as Morgan steps inside the warehouse, making her instinct take over as she runs to the source of the ruckus.
The screams lead her to the living room, and although she’s not quite sure what to expect, she understood, as the screams turned into a weird mix of laughter and complaints, that she didn’t have to worry. So, when she reaches the door, it’s not worry guiding her anymore but curiosity. What she definitely didn’t expect to find though, is the rest of the team, sitting on the carpet, Ava, towering over the other three as she kneels over the coffee table; pointing an accusing finger at Farah.
“I know you’re cheating!” She growls, almost making Morgan shiver. This is a tone the commanding agent rarely uses on them - despite them constantly getting on her nerves - and Ava must have sensed the very faint hint of fear in her teammates as her tone is way softer, almost pleading, when she adds: “You keep taking the pot!”
“How the heck do you want me to cheat!? I didn’t even know the rules of that game half an hour ago! You’re just mad because you’re losing-” The young vampire retorts, before she adds with a little glint of mischief in her eyes “-loser!”
Morgan has to hold back a laugh when Ava’s ears flush red with anger and Nat quickly scouts closer to her to land a soothing hand on her friend’s shoulder. She remembers a similar night, decades ago, when they had to ban game nights after Ava forced them to play the same game for hours because she kept losing or could tell that they were letting her win on purpose. Had she known they were playing a game, Morgan would have actually avoided the living room at all cost.
She catches Sadie’s gaze and cannot hold it anymore. The detective is seated between Ava and Farah and the look of pure panic in her eyes gives away that she’s regretting not going to the local Christmas market like they had planned. That she would have rather braved the heavy-falling snow than whatever is going on right now.
‘Get me out of here’ she mouths, but Morgan doesn’t make any move to help her. In fact, she steps even further into the room, thinking this debacle might at least entertain her for a little while. It’s not like she’s got anything else to do anyways.
The detective, realizing that she won’t be able to get out so easily, mouths again ‘I hate you’, to which Morgan answers by blowing a kiss in her direction.
Admitting her defeat, Sadie holds up her cat in Ava’s direction. “Could you hold while I play my turn, please?” She asks, barely hiding her attempt at defusing the situation.
And for a second, Morgan thinks this might work as Ava eyes the hairless cat, barely annoyed at being handled in such a way. She watches as the commanding agent sits back down, crossing her leg, almost preparing to take the cat. That is until she goes “You’ve been holding him just fine the whole time.”
Sadie makes a face at her. “Yeah, well unlike you, my legs are getting numb.” She states, not waiting for the vampire’s answer before putting the sheriff in her lap. The cat is already falling back asleep.
There's a moment of latency as everyone waits for Ava's reaction and, as she doesn't show any sign of exasperation, Sadie reaches for something on the table and the silence falls heavier when she makes it spin.
Morgan steps a little closer and sits on the sofa behind Sadie. On the table, she makes out the blurred lines of a wooden spinning top. Underneath it, the detective is crossing her fingers as tightly as she can bear.
In front of Sadie, two glass pebbles are sitting on the table. Morgan looks around the table and noticing that the others have similar piles before them - some much bigger, like Farah’s, and others only containing one more than Sadie’s stash, like Ava’s - she understands, despite having no idea what game they’re playing, that her friend is losing.
The four faces of the spinning top become more and more visible as it slows down and starts wobbling. Although she can now make out the symbols on the four faces of the toy, she still doesn’t know what they’re supposed to represent. She hears Sadie take a deep breath before she actually stops breathing. She can’t help but think the human is being a little-over dramatic, but then…
***
The dreidel finally tips over and…
“Nun!” she yells, much louder than she intended.
She hears Morgan hissing sharply behind her and realizes she’s probably broken her eardrums. So she turns around and mouths a silent apology, to which the vampire answers with only a grunt, before she goes back to the game.
Sadie stares at the dreidel laying on its side and lets out a relieved sigh. She’s not losing that round either, she thinks before handing her dreidel to Ava. The vampire sitting by her side, mumbles something as she does, but Sadie doesn’t get it.
The two are competing for the second to last place and, so far, Ava is winning. Sadie crosses her fingers once again and prays. She prays that Ava lands on ‘Shin’, which would force her to add another token into the pot, meaning they’d be even. But as she realizes what she’s praying for, Sadie is torn between shame and an irrepressible need to laugh. She’s usually not that competitive, but seeing how invested she is in that game, she guesses being around Ava is starting to rub on her.
Ava spins the dreidel and it flies across the room, making everyone duck.
“Ava!” They all scream in unison.
“What?” She asks, acting like nothing happened. She acts like it’s completely normal to turn a dreidel into a projectile, despite the fact that they all know how much control she has over her own strength.
Her ears turn pink as they all stare at her and she sheepishly avoids their gaze. A move Sadie has grown accustomed to these past months: she is trying to hide the shame of letting her emotions get the best of her.
A loud gasp echoes around the room and they all turn to Nat who went to fetch the toy. “Ava! It made a dent in the wall!” she cries in horror, staring at the toy encrusted in the wall.
Sadie’s mouth falls wide open and she struggles to hold back a laugh, but as she sees Farah and Morgan trying as hard as she is not to laugh and that the rest of Ava’s face is turning a bright shade of red, she cannot help but crack up in laughter.
Ava and Nat instantly start arguing like an old married couple about repairing that hole.
But as the argument grows in length, Sadie’s attention is caught by a flash of light in the middle of the room. She could have sworn the Christmas tree wasn’t turned on when she  got here earlier this afternoon.
Farah, noticing her confusion, leans in her direction. “I set a timer,” she whispers, “although magic would have been cool!” She adds like she had just guessed what the human was thinking.
“You can do that with Christmas lights?” Sadie asks, genuinely surprised by that fact.
“Nat bought really fancy ones” Farah explains and Sadie can’t help but chuckle at this.
Knowing Nat she should have known everything they had gotten to decorate the place was really expensive and she dares not imagine how much she actually paid. But judging by the tree sitting in the middle of the room, she probably spent more than Sadie’s salary this month.
This tree is so gigantic it’s almost comical. Upon seeing it, her first thought had been about Ava having a heart-attack when she first saw it and having another one when Nat asked her to bring it inside. Because although Nat could probably make Ava do anything as long as she used her best pleading eyes, Sadie is still wondering what Nat could have possibly bribed Ava with so that she accepted to do it. Not that she doubts Ava could do it, in fact, Sadie knows Ava can haul a tree without any difficulty. It’s just that her brain still cannot comprehend how she managed to fit that ginormous tree - that almost touches the high ceiling and takes up half of the room - through the tiny doors of the warehouse.
Yet it’s not the size that made Sadie burst into laughter when she first saw it, but rather the wide array of colors ornating it and she instantly guesses Farah had been the one doing the decoration.
She remembers the young vampire, less than a couple weeks ago, begging Ava to get a Christmas tree so that, as she put it, she could get the best of the human experience. But the commanding agent had refused, so Sadie supposes Farah must have changed strategy after that refusal and pulled on Nat’s heartstrings so that she would indulge her, like she always does, especially when Farah pulls the ‘I never got to be human’ card.
And today, Sadie was met with this… She’s not quite sure how to describe it. Calling it an atrocity would be quite harsh, but this is definitely a little bit of an eyesore. It’s like Farah had randomly grabbed garlands and ornaments and let her excitement take over when she put them on the tree. It kind of reminds her of that time her kindergarten teacher would let them decorate the Christmas tree in her room every year.
Sadie still has to hold back a laugh when she thinks of Nat’s reaction when she first saw it. She actually snorted when they decided to settle in the living room and saw Nat scrunching her nose at the sight of it, desperately trying to hide the fact that she disliked the arrangement. Before that, she had even caught her trying to arrange some of the garlands a little more neatly and actively replacing some. Nat had begged her not to tell Farah.
There’s a loud grunt by her side and Sadie realizes Ava and Nat have stopped arguing. And it seems like Ava has already played her turn. The dreidel they both share is laying on the table and she can’t believe her eyes. Ava has to put another token into the pot.
“This isn’t fair,” the vampire grunts.
“You’ve just got bad luck,” Nat tries to soothe her.
“My spinning wasn’t optimal. The cat sleeping in my lap is reducing my range of movement.”
“Are you really blaming the sheriff because you’re losing?” Sadie asks, offended.
“All I’m saying is that I couldn’t spin the dreidel properly.”
“Yet you’re still petting the cat,” Farah points out.
Ava’s mouth opens as she looks for something to say, but nothing comes out and instead she readjusts her position to accommodate the sheriff as he shifts in her lap. Sadie shakes her head, forces herself to look away not to let her feelings transpire. Yet she can’t hide the soft smile tugging at her lips after noticing the fondness with which Ava looks at her cat. Neither can she hide her heart beating a little too erratically.
She clears her throat. “It’s your turn, Nat,” she announces, barely hiding her attempt at changing the subject.
Yet as the small wooden top starts its rotation, her attention is brought back to the vampire sitting beside her.
Ava is readjusting the hairless cat’s sweater. She tugs on it, making sure it covers most of the sheriff’s body, despite the fact that it's not cold inside the warehouse. She rolls the little collar properly so that it doesn’t bother him, and when she’s done she scratches him behind the ears, a spot he particularly likes.
She likes catching these moments where the commanding agent briefly lets her guard down. These moments where her caring nature shows. Not only with her cat, but also with the members of the team. When she helps Nat to cook, despite the fact that she herself doesn’t eat. When she listens to Farah’s new interest that week and actively asks questions so that Farah knows she’s listening even though she doesn’t really understand what she’s saying. How she closes the blinds without a word when the sun shines a little too brightly through the windows, bothering Morgan. How she often comes to check on her when she’s sleeping over at the warehouse, making sure Sadie has everything she needs.
Despite how much she hates admitting it, she cares deeply for every single one of them.
Ava looks at her, a puzzled look on her face, and Sadie quickly reverts her eyes. She tries to find something else to look at other than the vampire sitting beside her, and her eyes land on the menorah sitting on the mantel.
This is the first menorah she has lit in years and, to be honest, she didn’t expect to find one here today - just like she wasn’t expecting the Christmas tree. But what really moved her was its beauty.
Sadie is usually not a material person, but this menorah is amazingly well-crafted.
It looks a little bit like a tree made out of brass. The trunk divides into two branches, on each of them sits four flowers to hold the eight candles. The ninth flower sits in the middle, slightly higher than the others, and holds the shamash.
Vines spread out  on each side of the trunk and rise to coil around the two branches holding the candles. On those vines are carved small, intricate flowers.
Upon seeing it, she teared up a little at the thought that Nat must have spent so much time carefully picking such a gorgeous menorah for her.
And so, after the sunset, before they started playing, she kindled the first candle, answering Farah’s questions about its meaning.
Someone taps on her shoulder, bringing her attention back to the game. They’re all looking at her expectantly and she understands that they’re waiting for her to add another token to the pot so that they can start another round of spinning, meaning she’s left with only one glass pebble.
Ava hands her the dreidel. She spins it and once again she’s crossing her fingers.
Sadie looks around herself as the spinning top starts wobbling. Ava is discreetly trying to pet her cat who purrs in the vampire laps, making the others chuckle. Farah whispers something to Morgan and they share a mischievous look and the detective wonders what they’re up to, although she’ll come to know sooner or later. Nat is sipping on her tea, keeping a fond eye on each of them and she smiles when their gaze meets.
The dreidel lands on ‘Shin’, but Sadie doesn’t care. She does feel a tinge of disappointment, especially since she has just taught them to play. But after all, this game is all about luck and she realizes she’s been lucky enough to find a new family this year, so maybe that’s all the luck she needed.

These wonderful stories here really showcase how vital and how beautiful friendships and found families really can be, absolutely lovely and refreshing, awe-inspiring
For that 'seeking physical affection' post, I would love to see how you think the members of Unit Bravo would do this with one another!
I’ve been thinking of this ask ever since getting it! Thank you so much, this was great fun!
A note: these are all written from the perspective of the person offering the physical affection, because I figured they would be able to more clearly observe what the other is doing. (The only exception is the one for Farah, because, well, you’ll see ^^) The downside is that it doesn’t show what the person needing the affection feels, but I hope the effect still comes across.
Also, this got kind of long, no obligation to read it all!
Words: ~1900 Rating: Teen and up Relationship: All of UB, the friendship edition Warnings: None
Ava and Nat
The hallway echoes with the sound of a training dummy being pummelled. Nat winces at a crack. The silence that follows it is broken again by the time she reaches the training room. On the other side of it is Ava, the muscles in her arms and shoulders working as she hits the dummy again and again.
Hands shoved into her pockets, Nat leans against the doorway. Ava has noticed her, of that she is certain, and will acknowledge her presence in time.
Two, three more strikes pass before Ava turns to her, panting. Her face is flushed and several strands of hair have escaped her ponytail, a detail that would make her look soft it it weren’t for her eyebrows knitted together. Undeterred by the expression, Nat crosses the training room, the floor giving ever so slightly underneath her feet.
“I could hear you all the way from my room.”
Ava’s gaze flickers to the arm of the training dummy that is dangling at its side, and back to Nat, crossing her arms before her chest as if daring Nat to say anything about the crippled object. Nat leans back on her heels instead, raising an eyebrow at Ava’s knuckles which are chafed raw and red.
When Ava realises what she’s looking at, her frown smoothes out. Wordlessly, she gets the plain white wrap from where it’s stored and hands the rolls over.
Just as quietly, Nat slips the loop around Ava’s thumb and begins wrapping. Around and under, between the thumb and forefinger and over the knuckles, covering skin that has already started to heal. With each wrapping, Ava’s breathing becomes steadier, her heartbeat slowing down.
“It wasn’t your fault,” Nat says as she pulls the fabric between each of Ava’s fingers.
With all her years of experience, Ava must know it to be true. They had been given insufficient information, not enough time to prepare. Despite that, the hand Nat is holding twitches.
“Still,” Ava murmurs before letting out a sigh.
With a final tug, Nat fastens the velcro at the end. She gives a light squeeze, brushing the unwrapped skin of Ava’s fingers before letting go.
Ava wiggles her fingers, but doesn’t otherwise move out of the bubble of their mingled breaths and shared body heat. “Thank you.”
There’s a softness in those jade stone eyes, a vulnerability that only a rare few ever get to see. Nat counts herself lucky to number among those few.
“Always, old friend.”
*~*~*~*~*
Mason and Felix
“Again?!”
Felix’s head shoots up from putting on his socks to find Mason holding one of his purple hoodies. His very favourite hoodie, in fact.
“Awesome timing, I just needed that one.” He jumps up to walk over in time with the beat of the music to take it from Mason’s outstretched hand. He pulls it over his head. His grin when he emerges is answered with a scowl. “Someone got out of bed with the wrong leg.” That’s not quite it, is it? Was it foot? Nope, that doesn’t sound right either. He shakes his head.
Mason, meanwhile, is still standing there, glaring at him. Definitely not in a good mood, but there’s more to it than that. He would have left otherwise.
“Did you already have breakfast?”
Mason shrugs. That’s a no, then. Meaning he’s waiting for the rest of them so they can have it together or he’s trying to avoid the boost fresh blood will give to his senses. Considering his mood, Felix is more than willing to bet it’s not the former. So, that leaves the only other option: a night—or nights—filled with nightmares that have left Mason on edge.
“Want to hang out here?” Felix asks as he turns off the music on his phone.
There’s another shrug, this one meaning yes—really, Felix is becoming a master at interpreting them.
“I’ll be right back.” Felix dashes out of his bedroom and, setting a new record, is back before Mason has wandered off.
Pushing a straw through the plastic bag, he sits down at his desk, debating what to do. There are a thousand things he could talk about, but that would be the last thing Mason, leaning against the wall with his shoulders drawn up and arms crossed, needs right now. No, he needs it to be quiet, but not so boring that he will notice the way those nightmares left his body stressed and frazzled.
After drinking the last drops of blood, Felix tosses the package into the bin, and takes out some paper and his drawing supplies. Crayons, because they don’t scratch as harshly as pencils do, and because they smell waxy smooth, much like the lines they draw across the paper.
While he is gathered his stuff, Mason went over to the beanbag in the corner to slump down on it.
As Felix continues to blend layers of colour together, the atmosphere of the room changes, he can tell. His short strokes from the start turn into longer, slower ones, the crayons gliding across the paper. When he next looks over at Mason, he is lying with his head tilted back against the wall, his eyes closed. His chest is slowly rising and falling. Not asleep, but close to it.
The sight makes Felix smile, a soft glow blooming in his chest. And if the drawing takes a little—a lot—longer than it really should, well, Mason doesn’t know anything about art anyway.
*~*~*~*~*
Nate and Adam
“Would you mind if I joined you?” Nate’s low voice pulls Adam out of his research.
The muscles in Adam’s shoulders tighten at the note of tension in his voice. After the brightness of the screen, it takes his eyes a moment to adjust to the darkness and discern the tightness drawn across Nate’s face. The attempted smile as he draws near lacks his usual warmth, but it is enough to make Adam lean back in his chair and nod at the seat beside him. “Not at all.”
It is when he leans over to turn on the light beside the desk that he notices it: a thickness to the air, the build-up of charge in inevitable anticipation.
A storm is coming.
Nate sits down and places the book he had brought on the desk. It’s one of the older books, hints of vanilla filling the air. Adam catches golden lettering on the cover when he turns on the desk lamp, though he doesn’t manage to read the title before Nate opens it.
There have been many storms they endured together, but it hasn’t always been like this. Those early years had been worse, Nate often locking himself away, and by the time he would finally open the door, his eyes would be shot through with red, his entire body hunched in on himself. Though there is little he can do, it is better to endure nights like these together, Adam thinks, and he is grateful Nate has come to that same conclusion.
The first raindrops patter against the window, followed by a gust of wind wailing around the warehouse walls. A shudder runs through Nate, the echo reverberating through the spot where Adam’s shoulder is touching his. He shifts his seat closer, until he can easily let his knee rest against Nate’s.
Shoulder-to-shoulder and leg-to-leg, they sit together, Nate’s eyes trained on the yellowed pages of his book, while the screen before Adam is filled with starker black on white. Nate does not read, the rhythm with which he turns the pages too irregular for that. Likewise, the research Adam had been working on progresses little. Not that he is worried, but it would be remiss of him not to pay attention to how a member of his team and his oldest friend is feeling.
As the storm howls outside, Nathaniel leans more of his weight against him, or maybe he is the one who has moved closer. The warmth of skin seeps through layers of clothes, their arms now pressed together tight enough for Adam to feel the tightening of muscles when lightning strikes some spot nearby, the air crackling and sharp with ozone.
Nate lets out a short breath and Adam nudges his shoulder. It’s alright, my friend.
Mercifully, the storm passes fast.
The book is closed with a dull thud, but before Nate can rise, Adam puts his hand on his shoulder.
“Do get some sleep.”
The corners of Nate’s mouth curve with a glimmer of a smile, and he casts a conspicuous look at the laptop screen. “I would say something about a pot and a kettle, if I though it would be of any use.”
A huff escapes him, more out of amusement and relief, than annoyance. “I am almost done. Besides, I hardly need the sleep.”
“But you need the rest.” Nate places his own hand on his, the inside of his palm slightly sticky with sweat, and says, softer, “Please, let me help tomorrow.” After a brief moment, Adam nods. As if he had been waiting for that signal, Nate rises then and offers him a smile, one that is small but true. “Good night, Adam.”
*~*~*~*~*
Farah and all of UB
“Did you all miss me?” The last part of Farah’s question is muffled against Nate’s shoulder as she hugs him tight. He smells nice, the scent of his favourite soap hanging around him, together with that of the leather of his jacket, but this close, he mostly smells of himself.
Without hesitation, he returns her hug, long arms wrapping around her. “We certainly did.”
“Knew it!” With that, she’s off to the next person: Morgan, who is standing with her arms crossed as if that would keep Farah from hugging her. Pffft, as if!
Moving slower and squeezing not quite as much, Farah puts her arms around her.
“I sure as hell did not miss getting my ears blasted out,” Morgan grumbles, letting her arms drop to her sides to relax within Farah’s hold. That counts as a win, for sure.
It leaves only one other person: Adam. He looks about as excited as Morgan at the prospect of a hug.
“You really could do with showing some more enthusiasm.” Farah pauses to give him a once-over. “Think about morale, team spirit. Look at Nate, for example. He made me feel like you missed me and were happy that I’m back.”
Nate gives her a warm smile, proving her point, while Adam frowns, proving her point even more.
“Of course I am glad that you are back. You’re an integral part of our team.”
Farah purses her lips, considering. “You mean that without me, you would be hopelessly lost and all would fall apart?” She claps her hands together. “I’ll take that.”
She encloses him in a hug before he can do something like asking her for a debrief of the mission or, even worse, remember the supply of blood bags she forgot to put in the fridge last time she was at the warehouse. It only takes about a second for Adam to hug her back. He’s a good hugger, if he wants to be, holding her firm but never too tight.
When he lets go, she just manages to catch the dimples in his cheeks before his Commanding Agent mask slips back into place. He really is happy that she’s back. Farah knew that, of course, but it’s still nice to have it confirmed like this.
She looks around at her three teammates—friends—and smiles wide and bright. It’s good to be back home.
*~*~*~*~*
End notes
The one for Mason and Felix is a very broad interpretation of the prompt. It’s not that I think M would never seek out physical affection, but.. Okay, this is where my thoughts get a bit incoherent, but I was thinking about how M turns to sex (and cigarettes) as a way of overstimulating their senses so that the smaller things are drowned out. This is however not them wanting affection. It made me wonder: is there a different, more subtle way they would go for when they are searching for this?
With how strong their senses are, I figured that merely being close to someone, for example being in the same room, would already have a physical affect on them. So, that’s what I was going for here.
Also, I don't think they would be aware they're looking for affection, so it's a good thing F is this sensitive to other people's emotions!

For the character development questions…42 and 52?
042. What is their greatest achievement?
Val: I would say keeping that ridiculous car of theirs alive all on their own. That car needs to see death. It’s clanging and sputtering it’s way to car heaven. But Val keeps it functioning and, in fact, running “fairly” “smoothly” on their own. They love working with their hands, vehicles are up there -- and no one thought they could give that car so many extra years. And they have!
I would also say finishing cosmotolgy school.
Kendis: Making detective. In part because of naysayers, in part because it took a lot of work. It certainly wasn’t a goal they saw in their future (them? A COP? why sera, why. why me, why) but it put her closer to things she wants to do.
052. What is your character’s worst flaw?
Val & Kendis: ... pettyness. lol.
Val: Stats wise, it’s impulsiveness and pessimism. I think that makes sense since for all they act arrogant (and are, genuinely, cocky), low self-esteem is a strong issue for Val. And the combination of that as well as the impulsiveness, can lead them to lashing out when they’re feeling vulnerable. This can lead to awkward situations, them exposing things they’re not ready to expose, and just being hurtful to others.
So, yeah Impulsiveness is definitely the worst flaw because it’s like the foundation of a lot of their ... not so favorable behaviors (selfishness, foot-in-mouth disease, dismissiveness, tempermental, greed, etc.)
Kendis: Stubbornness. It will always be stubbornness. Kendis best and worst trait is always how stubborn they are. Like Val, this feeds / is the foundation of all their other bad traits and habits: perversely headstrong, opinionated to the max, petty/grudge-holding/vindictive, temper. Kendis is Cut Nose Off To Spite Own Face, Bite The Hand That Feeds, Chew Own Limb Off To Keep You From Cutting It First all in one person. A thousand mfers cant tell them nothing.

Warnings: smoking, Fuzzy Holidays Feels™
Too blurry. Too crowded. Mason is holding up his middle finger. Not focused on the subject. Ava appears to be sneering?
The polaroids scatter on the floor as they’re being dropped, Felix’s frustration seemingly travelling through his fingertips and into the botched pictures as they skitter across the parquet. He had such high hopes for this holiday dinner they’ve panned - he even volunteered, much to Nat’s suspicion, to help decorate the warehouse to prepare the background for his perfect winter photos. There doesn’t seem to be a single wall or piece of furniture without strings of fairy lights or garlands hanging off them - and yet somehow, he managed to mess up all the pictures he took.
“I should have just used my phone, not this stupid polaroid Nat gave me,” he grumbles, as he sinks to the floor dramatically from the sofa. He turns his head to the left, expecting a response from Mason, but aside from the shrug of a shoulder, and a puff of smoke, he’s as disinterested as always. Felix allows his head to loll right now, and peeks through the open doors into the dining room, but his other team members are too far to share in his misery. Lizzie is in the middle of a story, which has Nat’s full attention, and Ava’s full, well, everything? Attention, adoration, respect, senses, everything. They’re cute, the way they hold hands over the table, how Ava squeezes Lizzie's hand encouragingly when she trails off or gets embarrassed by her own rambling. Felix hoped he would capture a moment between them, something candid, something like right now, but he’s missed his windows of opportunity - like for instance when Ava finally allowed herself to be dragged under the mistletoe with Lizzie, but their picture was ruined by the detective spilling her drink all over herself.
“Felix?”
“Leave me alone,” he replies, but he also cracks one eye open to make sure Nat, who’s just entered the room, doesn’t lose interest in his pity party on the floor. But she’s already retreating, so he starts flailing his limbs as if he were making a snow angel in the sea of polaroids. “Please don’t leave me alone. Mason won’t talk to me and I’m embarrassed. I messed up all the pictures. I tried taking them like you showed me but I messed up.”
“They’re not so bad,” Nat says kindly as she sits with her friend, plucking the odd semi-decent pictures from the ground. “See? This is lovely.”
“Yeah, but Lizard has hot chocolate spilt on her sweater in that one.”
“Don’t call her that,” Mason grumbles, as he sweeps some polaroids off his lap - the by-product of Felix’s snow angel performance - and flicks his cigarette into the flames of the fireplace. Nat pretends not to see, but the pain flashing across her features has already made Felix feel a little better. They spend the better of the next hour going through the pictures and sorting them out, while Mason sits close-by, smoking, lost in his thoughts. All that breaks their peace is Frank Sinatra’s drawling voice coming from the record player, and the occasional laughter from the lovebirds still camped in the dining room. By the end of it, they’re left with a handful of decent-ish photographs, and Felix wastes no time sticking them into the photo album he got from Lizzie for Christmas.
There was a moment today, a moment worth capturing, one that was befitting of the old silver screen movies Nat made him and Lizzie watch, between Ava and their beloved detective. Naturally, Felix - a rotten romantic at heart - is pissed that he wasn’t able to capture it. It was a moment far better than the forced kiss under the mistletoe, a moment of intimacy, when the pair thought they were away from prying eyes. A hand under Lizzie’s jaw, Ava’s eyes fixed on the prize, wanting to kiss but being unable to take their eyes off of each other… Obviously the shutter of the camera ruined it, causing the pair step away from each other, and Lizzie to hide her blushing cheeks behind the curtain of her frizzy hair, but that’s beside the point. They were happy. Maybe happier than he’s ever seen them. Things are often so fucked up, with the odds always stacked against them, that Felix sometimes lives in the comfort of these moments. He lives in his family’s happiness, in his friends’ laughter, in Lizzie’s tight hugs, in Ava’s pats on the shoulder… If he could, he’d capture all these moments in a jar and keep them very close always. Photographs are the next best thing - which is why he’s bummed out the picture he took of this moment must be so unrecognisable that it was swallowed by his sea of botched photographs.
He’s lost in thought when Mason nudges his shoulder, a polaroid of Lizzie and Ava in his hand stretched towards him.
“Found this under the sofa. Not too bad, if you’re into this lovey-dovey shit.”

okay so the n route has been bothering me ever since i played it and i needed to air my frustrations out as a way to cope i suppose
for reference my main detective who i use for n is felicity, but sometimes i also use arabella to test out some options i wouldn't normally pick and just to see how the romance works with a detective that isn't exactly that compatible with n. so when i first played, i used felicity and then later on when i was doing a deep dive into the romance and the plot, i was using arabella just to see if certain things held up yk! and lord how i wish it did LMFAO
just a little disclaimer that this is all just my opinion and i'm willing to listen to other points of view about this! and i do not mean any of what i say as a dig or to be hateful toward n, they are my favorite li in twc and the fact that i love their romance and their character so much is probably most if not all of the reason why their route in book 3 was so weird to me, and why i make the critiques that i do.
under the cut because this is a doozy and also book 3 spoilers
first of all the main thing in the demo chapters is that n gets mad if you try and fight the trappers bc they are so scared of losing you and like i GUESS i get it but this is literally our life now you're just gonna have to get used to it. and this wouldn't have even been an big issue for me if it was properly addressed! when i played using arabella i tried being mad, i tried staying mad, and it kept getting swept under the rug by the plot. like are we seriously not going to talk about this??? at all?????? and it seems very ooc for n NOT to say anything about it when you get a moment alone because why would they not address it, ESPECIALLY if your mc was still upset over it. AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE IN A RELATIONSHIP LIKE- these things need to be discussed in order to grow as a couple and there needs to be healthy communication or else this is not going to work. like you're telling me we were living with unit bravo for WEEKS and this shit just never got brought up again?
this also ties into my next gripe- n's backstory. so, if you snooped in the demo they won't tell you anything, which okay. mc shouldn't have done that, sure, but n doesn't even give a reason as to why they're upset by that. obviously you can be like "well i think anyone would be upset if you delved into their past without their knowledge or permission" but YOU ARE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH THIS PERSON WHY IS THERE NO COMMUNICATION OF FEELINGS. i would have appreciated that scene a hell of a lot more if n sat you down and was like "i'm upset that you did this, here's why," but all they do is get sad and then that's it. when i played as arabella i had her snoop AND get upset over the argument during the trapper fight, and n said something along the lines of "i know sometimes we regret doing things" as a reference to snooping AND the argument which??? just does NOT hold up at all and had me irritated as hell.
if you didn't snoop in the demo, n takes you to their room and shows you a picture of their family and talks about them and how his brother joined the navy and didn't come back (their brother was killed by vampires) and that's why they decided to join the navy, as a way to try and figure out what actually happened. this scene started off great, but it's cut short way too quickly because n drops the photo and the frame breaks. and then they basically just shoo you out. there's really not any option to comfort them, and the option that is there is not good enough. and it's not that n had to tell us EVERYTHING in that one scene, but it's more so the fact that it NEVER gets brought up again. your mc can't take a moment to bring it up and n sure as hell doesn't say anything else about it. which is so ?????? im sorry you supposedly love this person (im saying this for both mc and n) and yet neither of you address it again??? it makes no sense at all.
onto the research/combat scene… i've done the combat scene once so i can't really speak on that as much as the research one so. most of the research scene is fine aside from the fact if you're not in a relationship (which i did for one playthrough with felicity) n brings up bobby if you dated them which felt so bizarre but anyways. the option to realize you love n… i would love this IF the option where you tell n you love them actually mattered. LMFAO if you tell n you love them they literally just stare at you and then the sex scene pops up. like are you kidding me??? n would not just leave you hanging like that even if it was just to say that they don't feel that way yet. and the sex scene itself is… fine i suppose but it doesn't feel as intimate as it should be. there's little to no dialogue and it just feels so weird to read. like why would neither of you be saying anything?? not to mention the fact that you're literally OUTSIDE of the warehouse where any of ub could see you at any point it just feels wrong to have sex at that point at least in my opinion. and the talk after feels so short and weird i feel like both the detective and n would have more to say. and that moment is quickly brushed away by the plot.
i guess the next plot line is whether u told tina or verda or nobody about the supernatural. going into book 3 this was probably what i looked forward to the most and ofc it barely delivered. i liked seeing tina and n interact but that quickly turned sour for me, not because tina started rightfully bringing up how much mc has been through, but because n really does not do anything with that pov being voiced to them, which is so fucking ooc it pains me. when they go to talk to mc after their conversation there's no discussion just "i wanted to see you" okay but WHY did you? i would have taken a li pov of what tina relayed to them literally anything! and it's just another thing that gets swept under the rug because of the stupid ass plot.
another thing about the dinner that gets lost in the plot of book 3: tina/verda bringing up your li possibly drinking your blood and mc can react a number of different ways and i wish it had been talked about more than just in that moment 😭
the only scene that i genuinely enjoyed in all of n's route was after that building caves in on mc and you're back at the warehouse traumatized and bruised and defeated. n runs you a bath and if you pick that option helps you out of your clothes and then helps you settle into bed. i wish there had been more discussion of anything in that scene but mc was so out of it i was okay with no talking. and then redacted petname <3 the other thing i was most looking forward to! one thing i did dislike about this scene though was that we didn't really get a glimpse on how n was feeling yk usually mishka offers the li's pov on a scene and not having that made that moment not feel as rounded out.
the pool scene… first of all why did n get this one. like it would have made sense for m, hell even a! and again the scene felt so shallow and then the option to have sex. you're telling me your first time with n can be on a fucking pool table???? that is so not their vibe AT ALL and it feels so weird to even have that there. it was unnecessary as well as the other opportunity to have sex and i feel like mishka just put them in there as like fan service when who (in my opinion) genuinely wants this if they romance n and have them as their main route. i had hoped the first time n and mc have the opportunity to have sex it would be a more intimate setting because that's more fitting for them and my nate mc, felicity. but nope! and then the scene gets cut short because n has to go on patrol??? and again the sex scene itself … neither of them feel personable it's like a "one size fits all" type of approach and that just does not work if this is supposed to be interactive fiction where we create a personality for our mc's that cannot fit this specific mold mishka wants to put everyone in.
being invited to what might as well just be a fucking slave trade (i have many thoughts about this auction plotline as well but for now im discussing n's route) had me so confused because why would mishka even do that and then n's comment about the stationary? i need you to be fucking for real. the scene before you leave for the mission with n just felt so weird like we get it n is protective of mc but at this point it just felt like a hinderance which sucks because one of the things i love most about n is their deep care for mc and they just sounded like a broken record and it annoyed me so bad.
after all that, the scene when you come back and n is in tears confessing their love for mc i wanted to enjoy it i really did and i just could not upon replaying because it feels so unbelievably hollow. we have not discussed anything pertaining our relationship and when there are things that need to be discussed they are so underwhelming it's hard to even care. there are a handful of things n and mc both need to work on in order for this relationship to work and the fact that they're not being addressed makes it difficult for me to enjoy anything about this route. you can't even tell n you love them back for fuck's sake like hello.
a theme that i did not think was going to be as prominent as it was in this book but n contemplating mc turning into a vampire and AGAIN there wasn't ever really a discussion about this between mc and n and i feel like this will come to a head as the books progress but i don't think it fit into book 3 considering so many other things were being thrown at us.
all in all i truly desperately wanted to enjoy book 3 and enjoy being with n but i cannot when there are so many things ignored, sidelined, or just completely forgotten in order to push the plot forward.

┈─     …    She is a huge fan of GFriend. Chanel went to multiple of their concerts and to some fan meetings, she has all of their albums, some of them signed and used to collect and trade photocards in those fandoms before she became an idol. Her bias is Yuju. She supports all members' new activities now that GFriend has disbanded, and has even showed off her Viviz lightstick on live once.
┈─     …   She is fluent in Japanese, Korean, and English, and can keep a conversation in Vietnamese, Spanish, and French. Her parents valued education a lot, especially when it came to other languages and cultures.
┈─     …   Chanel is absolutely terrified of birds and all other animals with feathers, especially chickens. Back in Japan her grandparents had a farm and she was attacked by a chicken once, and that made her terrified of all birds, even nightingales.
┈─     …   Chanel is not good at managing her anger, so she gets snappy and sometimes explosive when people piss her off (by, for example, using her things without her permission), she will go on long sermons about how they need to show more respect for other people. The other members, especially those younger than her, find her scary at these moments.
┈─     …   She was a model when she was younger, but mostly while she was in Japan. Once she got to Korea her sights were set on becoming an idol and becoming an idol only. But now she's a model / ambassador for Chanel and Miu Miu.
┈─     …   She is what can only be described as a social media addict. She is always posting updates on SEVENTEEN's socials and will always be the one who talks the most in the group chat.
┈─     …   She is an absolute karaoke legend, she can make everyone sing along with her.
┈─     …   Chanel is very fond of little plants, and loves to take care of the ones she has scattered around the dorm and the ones in her room. She buys one whenever she can and often puts names on them for fun. Her room is full of flowers and small plants, a green paradise.
┈─     …   Her members often say that she smells like cake frosting, thanks to her vanilla perfume, of course Chanel doesn't miss the chance to joke that she bathes in frosting every morning.
┈─     …   She is a collector, she usually collects things that her acquaintances say are frivolous, but she loves it, some of her collections being: earrings, band shirts (even if she doesn't know them or is a fan), lipsticks and gloss, bookmarks and mugs.
┈─     …   Her natural hair is really curly, and she hates having to straighten it for certain hairstyles.
┈─     …    She is known for spending the night in her producer booth making music.
┈─     …   She has one “Pink Tape” by f(x) album that her family got her when it was still in print. She got a Sulli photocard and it’s her most prized possession. (Esp ever since...yk)
┈─     …   Because she is a huge music lover and producer, Chanel knows how to play the bass, guitar, keyboard and drums. She is self taught in all except the keyboard.
┈─     …   She is one of the few in her family that cannot be described as clumsy.
┈─     …   She loves body art and even has a few tattoos + piercings.
┈─     …   She doesn’t have an ideal type and is very open about that and about not wanting to date ever.

┈─     …   She really likes animals and has 5 pets.
┈─     …   She has watched the entirety of GoT just for the dragons, she cannot tell you one single plot point of the show.

R! For the oc meme!
thank you gabby! 💜✨️
rio madizza: my twc detective! she originally was going to school to become a therapist but pivoted so she could feel closer to her late father. she's a huge bookworm (mostly fantasy and horror) and loves learning/studying languages. she was very on board with joining unit b and learning about the supernatural. she's also giving her mom a second chance, but one step at a time.
roman: one of my vtm ocs. a toreador formerly known as marcello romano, he's a composer and violinist from naples. his sire was a secret sponsor of his early work and was very manipulative, so they do Not have a good relationship and he resents her. he still composes, but his original work didn't get famous til after he "died". later meets reno (belongs to @auricfog) they also have a... toxic relationship but it's how they both function best. and they Do love each other so it's fine ❤️
riona aeducan: another dao warden i only made recently! i don't have much for her yet, but essentially she's for my "non-canon" worldstate. she goes through with the ultimate sacrifice because she is very duty and honor focused, even if she doesn't want to leave leliana 😩

Hey, Mishka!!!
I've been replaying TWC over the last couple of months, and must say, it's been an entirely rejuvenating experience for me. Like, I was reading it the first time, although I've replayed the series quite too many (worrying number) of times already. And it still manages to amaze me, EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I've repeated this in the past, and I'll repeat it again. The Wayhaven Chronicles is a blessing for me and I'm sincerely thankful to have come across it when I did. And I'm grateful to you for making this lovely world a reality (and of course, the four beautiful vamps)! Really eager for Book 4 and have already player the demo; can say it's gonna be worth the wait. It every time is.
Replaying the series in the last few months, I had a certain uncontrollable urge to drop and ask a few questions to you. Apologize in advance for the long ask and message, but it had been bottling up inside of me for SOOOOOO LONG.
1. In Book 1, when we're to lead the investigation in one of the three directions, is there any way to get success in any direction without Bobby making a big joke out of our investigation in the newspaper?
2. In Book 2, when Nicole and Max Salinas come to report their incident, can Tina actually find out anything unusual? If so, what is actually needed to explain that?
3. In Book 3, I noticed if we choose to go the final mission alone, depending on the route chosen, Boddy/Doug will end up tagging along as well, jeopardizing everything. Is there still a way to complete the mission successfully and rescuing everyone like it happens when we go along with Rebecca?
4. Less of a question, but more of a plea. Please tell me we can get a pet anytime in the series. I was just curious if we can get one.
5. How powerful is the big baddie in Book 4 compared to Unit Bravo? You don't need to answer if this verges on spoiler-y territory.
Really sorry to overwhelm you with this, but it's just months and months of joy, happiness, and sheer ecstasy making me blabber on about this world like this. Thanks once again, for making this truly beautiful story, world, and the vampires a reality.
Have a good day!!!! Lots of love from India!!
You can never play a game you love too many times (I keep telling myself that as I gradually burn a hole into my poor old console playing Dragon Age over and over, lol!)! If it brings you happiness, then that's what is important! :D
Ok, let's see about the questions...it's been a whole since I've gone through the older games without being in editing mode, hehe!
I don't think so...Bobby is, well, Bobby. And that scene was there very much to establish their character and show the player what type of person they are.
I don't think so, again. If there's anything unusual or odd, then I usually like to let the MC find that instead of it happening 'off-screen' so it's more impactful for the player—unless it's Verda discovering stuff, because that needs to happen for…reasons.
Iirc, in the Bobby/Doug routes, you get the auction scene, so a lot of that branch involves focusing on saving yourself! But the other team that joins Unit Bravo will help in saving a lot of the captives in that version.
I would love that being a massive animal companion fan myself, hehe! But likely not, just because the MC is away a lot from home, and that's unfair on the pet, even a fictional one, lol. I was tempted to give the MC a supernatural pet that hung around at the facility—that was definitely a strong idea at one point just so I could write a pet in the series for those that wanted it (me, I was the one who wanted it, hehe!) :D
**BOOK FOUR DEMO SPOILERS AHEAD** It's not just that Book Four's villain is terrifyingly powerful (or will be. They are, thankfully for the MC and UB, in a weakened state for a while due to what's happened to them and what happened in Chapter Two) but it's a lot to do with the fact that their power specifically counteracts and weakens Unit Bravo's. So that's a double whammy!
Thank you SO incredibly much for the amazing message! It means more than you can know <3

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovely person 🌹
Thank you so much for your fun and thoughtful TWC posts and the writing you share! Your analysis about M and PTSD lives rent-free in my brain, it was so good.
Here’s a romance-themed OC question for any OC(s) of your choosing (no pressure to answer on Valentine’s day itself, or at all):
What does your OC get as a Valentine’s gift for their LI (if anything)? What does their LI get them?
Ahhh thank you so much! I'm glad people liked it!
These are all based on where the relationship is at given the end of Book 3:
Pax gets Farah a pretty rock she found and then they make slime together. Pax gives Farah a lot of pretty rocks since that scene in Book 2 where Farah talks about only ever getting practical gifts, though. Farah gets Pax a valentine's day card with a bad nerd pun on it such as: "I sulfur when you argon." She also gets one of those heart-shaped boxes of chocolates "for Pax" and then wants to try all the flavors with her.
------
Louise goes traditional, a bouquet of red roses with a handwritten note sealed with wax.
Nat also gets Louise a bouquet, but it's lovingly arranged using a variety of flowers that express her sentiments of love and affection in the language of floriography. Then she shoos the rest of the team out of the warehouse so they can have a romantic candlelit dinner together.
-----
Neveah gives Morgan a cheek kiss and the pleasure of watching her get flustered every time Morgan makes Valentine's Day themed propositions.
-----
Ainsley pranks Ava by hiding Valentine's Day themed rubber ducks in her stuff. This is definitely a prank and not an expression of affection. They then spend the day at Tina's house cracking jokes and eating ice cream while they watch rom coms together so Ainsley can pretend they aren't moping. Ava breaks furniture and mopes. The gift is that none of it is Ainsley's.
-----
Lauren and Morgan do not give each other gifts for Valentine's Day but the rest of Unit Bravo may choose to give themselves the gift of not being in the warehouse so they don't have to hear the two of them.

Man. I won't say I'm disappointed with this book, but I think the series is a whole lot better when the focus is on things being done TO the mc vs random people suffering because x wants their blood
Like, book one was about Murphy going after the mc. Simple clear threat that fits the tone of the books. Sure some other people died but I don't think it hindered anything
i liked book 2 because it was just a genuine supernatural problem. The carnival guys who's name I can't remember rn were just having a simple conflict of interest with wayhaven. I'm not mad at the trappers coming in at the end but I think a simple low stakes ending where they sign the treaty or don't would have been just as fitting
But book 3 was absolutely not ready to actually handle the dark topics it wanted to devle into. The scope of the plot was way to wide and it still managed to feel slow. If it were up to me I would have just had the trappers going after addie with no connection to mc. It would be lower stakes than like. A dozen or whatever kidnappings and wouldn't have made the actual romance (you know the focus of the books?) Feel so out of place tone wise.
Sorry for rambling into your ask box lol I just have many thoughts about book 3 (like the fact that on steam it sits alphabetically between book 1 and 2 so my steam games list goes 1 3 2. That's going to bug me forever)
HI <3 before i respond, don't apologize for leaving a long ask in my inbox! i absolutely love getting asks and especially ones that open up discussions! <3 thank you for this !! answering below the cut
you're so right about the differences between books. it's so much better when it's contained – the story for this was just too big for her to get her hands around. and that's awesome that she was ambitious! the story quality just suffered a lot bc of it. dude i LOVE that it was just One Guy Versus Unit Bravo for a while, because it was just so much more focused and allowed for more romance to bloom – and a huge reason i liked falk so much is that, like you said, it was a conflict of interest. he's not evil – just from another world with another cultural standard for "judgment". in book 3, it's literally a human (or supernatural in this case) rights violation. these are children – being kidnapped and attempted to be sold. this isn't a story that should have any lighthearted plot beats in the slightest – unless they were organic, and none of them felt that way
it's funny (not funny haha, funny weird) you say that about addie, because i was having an in depth discussion with friends about how much better the plot would flow if less people had been kidnapped. even just the idea that there are supernatural youth existing in wayhaven and that it is in fact, not safe for anyone! human or supernatural!
this book is just lacking the emotional impact plot-wise that it should, in my opinion, because she tried to cram so much into one book. that doesn't mean any of the plot points are bad, per se, they just needed to be workshopped, edited down, saved for later books, cut out completely – whatever makes the series flow better! and that's not to say any of these ideas are bad ideas – it's just unrealistic to write literally every possible idea for twc! there's going to be a point where there's too much to call back to and it's going to affect the story if those things aren't mentioned again yk?
also STOP ITS OUT OF ORDER ON STEAM??? LMAOOOO the cherry on top to a shit sundae huh.

August 7th, 2024: Part 92
Today's Dog: The Treeing Walker Coonhound! As the name suggests, these dogs were bred to hunt raccoons, but are also used for other medium/large game. Treeing Walkers get their name from their demeanor on hunts - they stand on their hind legs with their forelimbs on the tree they force their prey to climb. The Walker part comes from one of the first breeders - the TWC was bred in the American East Coast. Previously thought to be a type of English Coonhound, they were accepted as a distinct breed for the AKC’s 2012 show. TWCs are favored over other hunting hounds because they aren’t as aggressive, but are still determined enough to last the whole duration.
Today's Monkee: Nevada Fighter! This was the title track and lead single of Nevada Fighter (1971), Mike’s third solo album post-Monkees. He wrote and produced it, and it was recorded in Hollywood, CA. Nevada Fighter has a few verses which focus on the United States/Indigenous relations. It’s widely considered one of his best solo tracks - it was also a part of his last project with the First National Band, they actually broke up 3/4ths of the way through recording the album, although this track was completed by that time.

My wife is the loveliest and made a GURPS character sheet for Yael! (Picrew can be found here.) Some general info: GURPS is a TTRPG sytem in which you roll with 3 d6 and have to roll equal or below a skill level to succeed. Yael’s template is based on the monster hunter Sleuth template, hence the high amount of points. My wife also wrote down some (a lot, lol) more explanation, because she wanted to “talk to your tumblr people” ^^
Hey tumblr friends of Seren, it’s me, her wife. We were talking a bit about our OCs and how they would interact with each other. They are in pretty comparable universes, hers in the Wayhaven Chronicles and mine in Gurps Monster Hunters. Both have a hidden supernatural world and both protect people against evil supernaturals, so I decided to make her a character sheet as a present. Here’s a little explanation on Yael and how I decided to represent her on a sheet. Hope you enjoy! She tells me a lot about all your blorbos!
Yael is already doing some monster hunting in her own setting of the Wayhaven Chronicles so I gave her some stronger stats as compared to an average person. All of her running and swimming made her a little over average Strong and Healthy but nothing to write home about, certainly compared to what's out there. She doesn't have much combat training, but despite that fact Yael is also not helpless in a fight so I gave her a significant boost to her Dexterity. Yael's main strength is using her head so making her a lot smarter than most was only fitting, with her Perception boosted even a bit higher.
Her position as Detective within Wayhaven and her position in the agency mostly comes forward in the advantage selection. To save some space I merged all of Unit Bravo into 1 Ally, they would appear separate from each other like they do in TWC too. The Agency acts like a Patron and all the Legal+Police advantages are there to make her a proper Detective.
Her position in Wayhaven and the Agency combined with her own social skills also allows Yael to get in touch with many different experts. I represented this with the ‘I have a Friend’ advantage that allows her to get into contact with a lot of different experts in their fields. Of course the main supporting cast has to make an appearance too with the important people in Yael's life being contacts (because Unit Bravo follows her into danger they are Allies).
Yael is kind and most people like her so I gave her some Charisma and having seen her face claim, I couldn't help but give her a Beautiful appearance.
Of course she wouldn't be THE Detective of TWC if she didn't have her special blood. Her being protected from pheromones and other supernatural mental influences was quite easily done with a broad immunity level resistance. I had to think a bit on how to deal with the fact that her blood buffs supernaturals and decided to invoke some genre conventions. Since Yael and her party are Good and using Yael as a blood bag to buff up the rest of the party would be Evil and anyone who would make use of it would be a bad guy™, so I didn’t have to stat it up (#copout). To represent the Evil that’s after her blood I gave her an enemy (Monster of the Week), which is also very fitting considering how TWC book 1-2 go.
The other disadvantages made sense for her too. She’s a dedicated police officer who takes her uniform seriously and plays by the book for the Code of Honor and Honesty. Sometimes the Agency asks her to do some dangerous thing so Yael has a Duty there for sure! Impulsiveness because sometimes she just does things from her feelings without really thinking things though. Nightmares stemming from the Murphy incident. Pacifism because she just has a very bad issue killing beings, even the evil ones. Finally there is Selfless because she has a drive to help people around her. Quirks are minor disadvantages, so of course Bobby being a nuisance had to make an appearance there.
Yael has two big main wildcard skills (skills much broader applicable than normal ones), Talker! and Detective! The first is to represent her very good awareness and reflection with whomever she talks. This can be used for any type of social skill and she even gets some tokens to turn Failure into successes (which is true for the Detective! too). Time and time again Yael shows how good she is at being a detective so having Detective! only made a lot of sense.
She barely has any combat skills and has to rely on the basic training she got a police officer, which against normal humans would be enough, but with all the supernatural around, she doesn't stand much of a chance. For example against the trappers she manages to hold her own a little bit but against Murphy she was horribly outclassed.
Being from Wayhaven she knows the area and what's happening, it’s a small town so people talk with her on the streets giving her the Current Affairs (Wayhaven) skill.
Of course spending so much time patching up antiques gave her quite a bit of skill on that end. Knowing how to clean that furniture also comes in handy when having to remove evidence of a supernatural, for example after an attack, for which the Housekeeping skill is used. Her athletic activities definitely warrant some points into the running and swimming skills too.

Have you already answered the ship meme thing for Nate? If not, here's me asking about it! Or the actual shipping part of the ask game for Nate and Leah, whichever you prefer <3
Thank you for playing! I haven't anwered it for either of them yet, but I'll restrain myself and stick to just Nate x Leah ;D
When I started shipping it: Immediately XD Nate walked into Leah's office and I knew he was going to be the one she would romance, because he's the only one who was nice to her.
My thoughts: There are far too many to put here. I think about the pair of them every day, both in general and in the many plots and fics I want to write about them.
What makes me happy about them: Can I say everything? Nate is such a romantic and Leah is too though she pretends really hard otherwise, so they're great together. There's so much casual touching and affirmations, it's a great romance to be soft about, but there's still enough drama there to make it compelling to endlessly read and write about.
What makes me sad about them: They end up misunderstanding each other a lot, ironically because they're pretty similar. Both have feelings of inadequacy and reserve about being in a relationship even though they want so badly to be wanted. I'm worried about what Mishka has planned for the N route...
Things done in fanfic that annoy me: I haven't read a Nate fic yet that annoys me. The TWC fandom is excellent at writing Nate.
Things I look for in fanfic: The main themes I love for any Nate x detective ship is hurt/comfort, fluff, and dare I say a little bit of spice XD Writing Nate x Leah specifically, I love to explore them learning how to communicate with each other and just... learning how to be SOFT.
Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I choose not to think of it that way, as if the only source of happiness would be finding a specific partner. Even if they didn't end up together, Unit Bravo will always be there for them both as family.
My happily ever after for them: Leah becomes a vampire, and they spend a romantic eternity travelling and watching history unfold
Who's the big spoon/little spoon: Nate defaults as the big spoon and Leah is perfectly happy with that, but she moves a lot in her sleep so they often wake up the other way around (or she's just clinging to him like a vine)
What is their favourite non-sexual activity: At some point in long evenings of research they tend to move to the couch and cuddle while they read, and it's something they both cherish. Other than that, going to local museums while they're on assignments is their go-to kind of date, because they're both absolute nerds. --
Send me a ship or a character!
