I love Mistystar so much. In a world filled with representation of Stereotypical Conservative Grandparent, Mistystar represents all those grandparents who are like. So close. They tell you all these stories of the Horrors they lived through and how that spurred their incredible political activism, and there's so much that the two of you agree on. They're a breath of fresh air at family gatherings because you know that if things turn to Politics, you won't be out here alone against all your conservative kin. But. She just can never take that extra step! She's Meemaw Fascist Murderer, but things like criticizing capitalism are off limits! And you just wish you could shake her and be like come on! You're constantly on the edge of this huge political epiphany, Meemaw! Come with me! And then. Some days. She comes home and is like "You know, my friend said something about [insert insane conservative talking point], and I think she might have a point" and you just want to scream! Meemaw NO! (G-d I hope this is a relatable experience)
It ABSOLUTELY is relatable lmaooo, I've been there in the trenches with you, Nonnie. It is such a unique kind of stress when you have an older family member like that just teeter-tottering on the edge of ONE extra step foward and they DONT TAKE IT
You can file the worst members of your family under "Objective: SURVIVE" and it gives you so much more of a shield against them. You expect dumb shit from Uncle Fungleblock, the Republican Elf, never to the point where it stops hurting, but to the point that you're prepared for the fight.
But nothing prepares you for Meemaw suddenly not having your back when you needed her, because she's genuinely considering that talking point from her friend.
So now you're using the Measured Meemaw Tone, trying to legitimately address her argument the way that sometimes soothing the horse can make it drink, while Fungleblock is casting Racism Fireball at you and you can FEEL his Slur Cooldown ticking away.
You think back to everything she's been through, how gutwrenching her stories are, the things she's experienced, violence and bigotry she's WITNESSED changing over the course of her own life... but on some level, it's as if she's stuck believing that progress is just about fighting The Bad People, or making an argument convincing enough that the good guys win fair and square, and she's gotten as old as she is because she has a support network that your allies may not.
So she never really will truly protect you from Fungleblock himself as long as he behaves just enough. She helps but she isn't your hero. And she'll still keep falling into bigoted traps, because she never will crack that nut and realize the difference between racist stereotypes and material conditions.
Love, pride, and disappointment. How do you hold them all at once? You just let them swirl as they please.
In my experience, at least, lmao. But hey, my own personal Fungleblock threw himself out of Thanksgiving with a tantrum so. Life is good B)

fondly remembering two years ago when I said I don’t like those pedro pascal reader insert fics because they were annoying on top of being gross and I got dozens of screaming essays in my inbox calling me a cunt and accusing me of ruining the fandom for like a straight week and now those same people are joining in on the finger wagging about calling pedro pascal daddy and pretending like they weren’t the ones who were calling him shit like “chilean cock monster” and saying they have “jungle fever” for finding him hot and screaming DADDY🥵🥵🥵 in the tags and replies of literally every single post about the mandalorian on this website

RANT ABOUT PEOPLES WEIRD ATTITUDE ABOUT SHANE STARDEW VALLEY INCOMING!!!
saw people complaining about shane today and saying he is a bad and awful husband and they divorced him after seeing his room and that he becomes boring after he starts getting therapy because the interesting thing about him is his struggle with addiction and after you "fix him" what's the point of being with him And just?? Why?? Did you even marry him?? Like?? I dunno, people are allowed to have opinions on characters but so many peoples' opinions are just?? Really bad and rooted deeply in ableism and misconceptions about mental health/addiction and are super saviory??
I have said this a thousand times but you can't fix people. That's literally not how people work. You can, however, be there for people and try and create a safe environment for them to be able to help themselves!! AND THATS EXACTLY EHAT FUCKING HAPPEMS IN STARDEW!! Shane gets help ON HIS OWN because he is being supported by both his family and the farmer. And to see that just fucking fly over peoples heads makes me so mad because DID WE PLAY THE SAME FUCLING GAME?? YOU DONT FIX SHIT!! YOU ACT AS PART OF A SUPPORT SYSTEM!! (Which is very important but like) YOU AS A SINGULAR PERSON CANT FIX PEOPLE!!
I also just hate the "I can fix them" attitude because, at least in this specific situation, the people saying this are the same people who divorce him because his room is ugly or because he is implied to relapse and still is depressed??? It feels like the same thing as when someone has "spread kindness!" or "love each other!" in their bio and then is the most rancid hateful person ever? The room thing in particular makes me mad because LIKE WHAT DID YUOU THINK IT WAS GOING TO LOOK LIKE?? YOU SAW HIS ROOM AT MARNIE'S, WHAT MADE YOU THINK HIS ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE WAS GOING TO BE ORGANIZED AND SPOTLESS???
Idk like, again, you can dislike Shane and even regret marrying him. He's not very nice to you until you really get his hearts up there so he comes off as rude and abrasive. You don't HAVE TO LIKE HIM!! But so many people just spout hateful shit and it's like god, I hope you never have anyone in your life who suffers from mental illness because even though Shane is a video game character, the stuff you're saying and the ideas you have surrounding addiction and mental health are super toxic and weird and I hope no real person ever has to be subjected to them.
edit (put this in the tags but then wanted to add it to the main post):

I haven't seen this take a WHOLE lot, but I have seen it enough to get. Frustrated. About it.
So for anyone who doesn't get it: no, symptoms of mental illness are not, in every case, majorly or solely the result of Dealing With Capitalism. Sometimes, they can be! Sometimes the symptoms are situational, and those situations are heavily related to how much capitalism sucks! But many times they are not. I am sorry, but mental illness and trauma and neurodivergence are still going to exist even if capitalism completely goes away. We still have a responsibility to treat the people affected by and experiencing these things with compassion and understanding. We still have to. You know. Acknowledge that their life experience is going to be a lot different than many other's is.
#I promise that when my ocd onset happened at 10 years old I was not thinking about capitalism#germs are still going to exist post-capitalism. the concept of a good person vs a bad person is still going to exist post-capitalism#which means. if those are your OCD Themes™. then. you're still going to have OCD post-capitalism.#and this is true for. you know. EVERY INSTANCE OF THIS.#you take things that are rooted in trauma like did or ptsd. I hate to tell you this but mistreatment and the trauma that results from it#are still going to exist in a post-capitalist world. bad people who do bad things WILL ALWAYS EXIST. so those illnesses are likewise still#going to exist. plenty of anxiety-based symptoms are related to fears that. have nothing to do with capitalism or financial security.#they are DISPROPORTIONATE REACTIONS. THAT IS THE POINT.#if someone has anxiety that isn't completely situational. or if someone has paranoia. that disproportionate fear does not have to#have capitalism to exist. meaning. you know. those will ALSO still exist.#adhd and autism have nothing to fucking do with capitalism lmao.#the existence of. for example. schizophrenia and psychosis HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH CAPITALISM????????#like. we can talk about how much easier it would be for people to get care/accommodations under a non-capitalist system. we can talk about#how divorcing personal worth from the concept of 'productivity' would help the people who experience the things I've mentioned.#I'm not disputing that. but I've seen...a not-insignificant number of people downplay or outright DENY the existence of these#illnesses/experiences outside of 'languishing under the pressure of capitalism/tying your worth to productivity/worrying about financial#security' and that is simply not how it works my friends!#tw: suicidal ideation#like. sorry. I did not seriously consider killing myself at age 10 to escape The Disorder™ for you to tell me that all my issues with this#illness would go away forever if capitalism stopped existing LOL!! LMAO EVEN!!!!!#In the Vents#the real horror was the ableism we found along the way

that night, the bugs and the dirt
For @flashfictionfridayofficial #FFF239 - Seal It Tight
(916 words)
Tumblr media
When the door slammed shut behind them, a lump formed in Lockwood's throat. He whipped around and tried to turn the knob: nothing. The door was sealed fast.
"Ugh, Poltergeists," Lucy grumbled somewhere behind him.
Lockwood pulled and pushed at the door, but it wasn't budging a millimeter. Nothing was sturdier than old construction. He slammed a fist against the door.
"Woah, chill," Lucy said. "You're just going to piss it off more. George'll realize we're missing in a few and . . ."
She kept talking, but Lockwood's pulse raced in his ears and drowned out her voice. His breath was catching now, and it felt like a giant hand was wrapped around his lungs, slowly squeezing the air out. Lockwood tried to step away from the door, but his arm bumped into Lucy's shoulder. When he pivoted to give her space, he ended up with his back against the far wall of the closet.
Why the hell were they both searching for sources in here? There wasn't enough room for one person to breathe, let alone two. Wait, how well was that door sealed; were they getting any fresh air in here?
Panic clawed up his chest and throat. Lockwood pushed off the wall and fell on the door; he could barely see it, between the darkness and the tears starting to blur his vision. He threw his torch to the ground and started digging at the place where the door met the frame, desperately hoping he could somehow pry it open—
His arm was snatched away from the door, and hands spun him around until he was forced to face Lucy. There was a shock of cold on his face that forced him to gasp in a breath, and musty air filled his lungs. He realized that the cold was Lucy's freezing hands cupping his jaw, forcing him to look at her.
"Lockwood!" she said. Her tone was forceful and gentle all at once. "Breathe with me! Can you do that?"
He nodded as best he could with her hands holding him in place. He was unable to take in enough air to choke out any words.
"Okay," Lucy exhaled. "One . . . two . . . three . . ."
She guided Lockwood's breathing in time her own, a simple in-four-hold-four-out-four pattern that he was eventually able to start counting along with in his head. When he started to catch his breath a bit more, Lucy pulled him down until they were both sitting on the floor, their knees pressed together and Lockwood's back resting against the wall. Her face was calm all the while, guiding him down from the panic with gentle little encouragements like "you're doing great" and "good, keep going."
At one point, Lockwood tried to blink away his tears, and one rolled down his cheek. Lucy, without a thought, swept it away with her thumb, a firm touch trailing along his cheek and back to her hand. The little motion reminded Lockwood so much of Jessica—who used to wipe away his tears the same way, back when he would get overwhelmed as a child—that tears began to stream down from Lockwood's eyes anew.
"Shhh, you're okay," Lucy murmured. "Keep breathing: out . . . two . . . three . . . four . . ."
Lockwood wondered, idly, where Lucy learned how to do this. It sounded like her mother wasn't the type who was capable of such a gentle action. She had sisters, though. Maybe she had a younger sister that she had learned to help, like Jessica helping young Lockwood through his fear when they lost their parents in the Tesco. Or maybe Lucy got panic attacks too, and an older sister had done this for her. Either way, she was great at this. Lockwood stopped feeling like the walls were closing in on him; he felt instead like nothing bad could happen so long as his face was between her palms.
Eventually Lockwood's sobs and panic lulled enough that he was breathing whole, complete breaths on his own. Lucy pulled the sleeve of her jumper over one hand and used it to wipe away his tears, the other hand tilting his head for better access. "Doing better?"
"Yeah," Lockwood said. He tried for a reassuring smile, but it felt watery. "You, uh . . . you can probably tell I'm not a fan of enclosed spaces."
"No shit."
Lockwood barked a wet laugh. "Thanks. For, uh—"
"Don't mention it," she said. Lucy pulled her hands away and sat back, then winced. "Ugh, there's something—" She reached behind her and came back with her discarded torch and then a tiny rib bone.
"Shit," Lockwood said. "That's not a . . ."
"Have you got a spare silver net?"
"Yeah." He rummaged in his inner coat pocket for the square of netting and passed it over.
Lucy stood and turned to place the net. She gasped. "Oh, it's—I think it's a cat?"
"You're kidding me," Lockwood said. "A cat did all of this?"
"One way to find out." Lucy dropped the net and then turned and tried the door. It opened with ease. She turned to look at Lockwood with a shocked expression; they both burst out laughing, somewhere between astonished and relieved.
Lucy offered a hand and pulled Lockwood up to his feet. As soon as he was out of the room, he spread his arms wide and took a few deep breaths. Lockwood looked up and caught her watching with some concern and gave her a relieved smile. "Thanks for helping me out back there."
Lucy smiled back. "No problem."

I think a good idea for a DP rewrite AU would be changing Paul so that instead of being an outright abusive asshole who knowingly hurts his Pokémon, he’s like that one dog owner who thinks that Cesar Millan has genuinely good advice and he isn’t just a sociopath who chokeslams anxious dogs.

So much of the current marauders fandom controversy wouldn’t even exist if people just tagged their posts right 😭😭
#And if we stopped sending death threats to people I think that would be really cool!!!!#I’m very likely going to delete this post soon because I’m afraid of having it up and I don’t usually talk about controversies and shit#and I want to make it clear that I’m approaching this from a completely neutral point of view!!#so without further ado#in my humble opinion it is absolutely 100% so very valid so so fair absolutely okay for somebody to hate on a ship there’s no issue in that#just tag that it’s hate#It’s so very valid so very okay to like a ship and want to post about it#just use the right tags#don’t tag a ship that isn’t relevant#it’s so very totally okay and so very valid for you to be really fucking tired and really fucking annoyed with seeing a bunch of shit about#tags and characters that you don’t like or support and it’s totally fair that you don’t want to see it anymore#that’s the fault of the people making those posts and if you’re one of those people? use the right fucking tags#if you wanna hate - hate#if you wanna love - love#but no amount of loving or hating part of a fandom based on FICTIONAL MEDIA is justification for sending literal death threats#to real fucking people#there could be a child who has suffered from thoughts of suicide or sh on the other side of the phone that you’ve just sent death threats t#and that child could then be so frightened by what they’ve been sent or they could start believing that they deserve it#and then you would be the cause of irreversible damage to a literal fucking child#And the thing is that that’s literally just an example and there are hundreds upon hundreds of other people with different situations#whether that be adults and people who’ve never suffered with such thoughts etc#who could be affected just as badly if not worse#and that’s all because you got angry about a fictional fucking universe#from a completely neutral point of view I think it’s very reasonable to hate on a ship or a character etc#and I think there should be a place for that hate to be put online because at the end of the day thats part of what fandom internet is for#but that hate shouldn’t be directed towards real people (except for JK Rowling I think we can all agree she’s an exception)#and quite simply it should be tagged#IM GOING TO CONTINUE THESE IN REBLOGS I DIDNT KNOW THAT THERE WAS A TAG LIMIT#tw sui implied#marauders era

I don’t care how woke or politically correct you are. Saying that certain people are not human even based on actions has never been and will never be a good idea
We’ve seen it time and time again that it’s a slippery slope, yes even those people

personally I think it's an improvement that we've evolved enough to care about the morals and personal views of the celebrities. I'd take people asking genuinely if so & so is problematic or has done anything questionable over people not caring at all. Indifference isn't a good when it comes to these influential people, especially because their views will be broadcast to a much larger audience regardless. It's a good thing to question the intentions of the richer celebrity folk in our world and to not trust in them blindly.

*puts my head in my hands* The reason that so many of us say, "I don't trust people who say that all men are evil no exceptions you should never interact with any of them for any reason" ISN'T because we are coddling abusive men, it's because we a) don't want to get into bioessentialism territory, and b) are WELL aware of your history of using this rhetoric to blame women who are abused by men because "Well men are horrible, what did she expect, she brought this on herself."
#tw: abuse mention#'feminism focuses too much on men!! we forget about the women!!!' I mean. in some cases yeah probably but that is NOT what is#happening here when I express my distrust of this phenomenon.#like...no I don't think we should have to clarify every discussion of misogyny with 'not all men' and I am WELL aware that when most women#go 'ugh men' they are complaining about the patriarchal system in place and do not LITERALLY mean Every Single Man#and at the SAME TIME: saying that men are inherently [x] & that 'can't be helped' and women are inherently [x] & can do no wrong#is. bad. you get why saying that men are inherently violent and [insert bad quality here] doesn't ACTUALLY fight misogyny right#you get why telling people 'this is NOT based on a systemic issue or cultural factors that can change over time and is just an Unfortunate#Part of being born as [assigned gender] that no one can help' doesn't. bode well for your cause right. RIGHT.#'welp ALL men are like this it's just The Way Things Are!' congratulations you've horseshoed back around to the very argument#people use to absolve abusive men of violence against women. look at you. real feminist hero there.#ugh let's hope THIS post doesn't get picked up by the t---fs#actually I'm going to make this non-rebloggable#lmao watch me get labelled as 'not caring about women' on The Women Blog#watch me get called a straight person when the primary thing I do is talk about how attracted to women I am a;sdkfja;lsfjksdfl
