As I said, they follow archetypes, which means that while the plays are completely different, the masks follow similar behavioural patterns. Let‘s take a Zanni and two Vecchi as an example! -Pantalone is an old, greedy man, who is extremely arrogant. He‘s usually the father of one of the innamorati, and often flirts with women but is always rejected. Sometimes he is married to La Signora, but more often he‘s a widow or was never married in the first place. He treats his servants awfully and loves nothing more than his money. He is often the main subject of Lazzi (scripted jokes) in the plays. -Il Dottore, annother Vecchio, is the foil to Pantalone, and his main character trait is being absolutely fucking incompetent! He‘s often portrayed as a doctor, of course, but can sometimes be played as a lawyer as well! He’s sometimes portrayed as Colombinas father. As a Vecchio, he‘s usually portrayed as very rich, arrogant etc. Depending on the play, you might have him badly speaking Latin/Greek (or other scholarly languages) as well! He is also often portrayed as an alcoholic or glutton, and yes, he too flirts with women a bunch. As you can probably tell, he is meant to parody the intellectual elite! While he pretends to know many things, he usually has no idea what he‘s actually talking about- but a common Lazzo involving him is that he talks so much that the other characters get bored and leave the stage. -For the Zanni, let‘s take a look at the most well known one first: Arlecchino! Him and Colombina usually provide a parallel to the innamorati, but other than that, he is very witty, often competetive and has a lot of those sort of trickster-like characteristics that you expect from Harlequin-characters today (which, ofc, they got from Arlecchino!). He is also usually portrayed as really agile. He is really interesting, because he can be played as intelligent AND as dumb- Antonio Scuderi alledges that he puts on a show of being dumb, to create chaos within the play. Many times, the plot of commedia dell‘arte plays revolves around the Innamorati, who are in this sort of forbidden love- usually one or both of them are children of the Vecchi, who do not wish for the Innamorati to get together, which is why they turn to ask the Zanni for help! They usually get a happy ending, too :D It‘s especially cool, because this form of theatre was used as political/social commentary a bunch! The Vecchi (rich people) are almost always portrayed as the bad guys, and while ofc the Zanni are full of stereotypes as well, and everyone is kind of shown to be, well, not the smartest person, it is especially apparent in the Vecchi, who are relentlessly made fun of :D It gets even better when you remember that they continuosly break the 4th wall, as customary for the time! Actually, in case you‘re interested in that, the 4th wall is a relatively new phenomenon, so read up on that :D! Older plays don‘t really apply the concept at all, even Shakespeare didn‘t, especially in his comedies (which are, you guessed it, in part inspired by Commedia dell‘arte). ALSO ALSO, something that I think is really hard to comprehend if you‘re not that familiar with Italian culture/don‘t speak the language, a HUGE part of commedia dell‘arte is dialects! For example, Arlecchino is often portrayed as speaking the Bergamo dialect, and Pantalone often speaks in a Venetian dialect! And of course, the costumes- god i could talk about the costumes so much- In any case, I hope this wasn‘t too rambly for you! I might post some quotes I have from scripted plays later, if people are interested :D (2/2)

I do actually think about that a lot! I learned Latin in school, and still use it a lot in my major (archaeology), so I thought it was really funny when people started figuring out the latin in Genshin‘s names and soundtracks xD

I know Google Translate translates it as „stupid“, but it actually translates more accurately to „Fools“! Fatui is the plural and the singular would be Fatuus :D I think it‘s actually used in game a few times iirc! I think it refers to the fact that they‘re foolish for opposing the divine order/heavenly principles, but yes it‘s kind of funny xD But it also connects to them being based on commedia dell‘arte imo! I won‘t go into detail cus that would take too long and I don‘t think anyones all that interested in it (Commedia dell‘arte is my special interest, so there‘s a LOT), but fools is a very accurate description for the masks/characters appearing in it

The interent currently is not a very reliable source of history (like, i've seen people claim we should call tel aviv "ahuzat bait" since it is its arab name. It's not. It's in hebrew, and the name of the first street if tel aviv when it was legally bought)

And if you ask why not let all the middle east countries participate in the eurivision - actually they let them. They just decided the quit when israel joined.

oh bless you anon - i hope you're okay with me posting this, because i wouldn't be able to respond otherwise. i admit entirely i was being reductive - i haven't spoken a lot about this issue here because i'm afraid of letting emotion get the better of me, when i know how morally complex this issue is. i was being reductive - and i absolutely know there are a lot of israeli-born jewish people who are native to the land. and i know there are a lot of jewish people in israel who are against the occupation. and i know there is a huge population of israeli citizens who are against their government because the government is lying to their citizens just as much as they're lying to world.

but there is an image that the leading powers in israel want to paint to the world - the one they show in eurovision and any media presence (which they pour ungodly amounts of money into) - and it's of a very western, palatably white israel. i really would like you to know that when i refer to "israel" i refer only to the ruling powers that govern it - not the citizens that live there.

israel doesn't want you to see iraeli-born jews who are critical of their government and actually have been living peacefully alongside the muslim and christian population of the land for hundreds of years before the occupation. israel doesn't want to showcase that narrative, because that would show that actually the nation could've been peaceful and have equality for all it's people the whole time (because they've been doing it for HUNDREDS of years prior) and there was no reason to expel palestinians from their homes.

in eurovision, wants to show that israel has established this land and made it pristine and beautiful and countries should invest in this cosmopolitan utopia and new western culture that is so divorced from it's native people and it's history. palatable. marketable. clean. no war crimes here.

there's an unfortunate power imbalance in the world - and that's that some nations have the money and the power to curate and maintain a spotless public image - and other nations can't afford to keep the lights on in their hospitals.

I use OBS Studio for recording, which I think is pretty standard. But I do my video editing in Vegas Pro which idk if its common (I think people usually use adobe these days?) but I used a pirated version of Vegas to make AMVs back when I was a teenager so that was what I went with XD

I do have a decent PC but also play with low cc when I am recording for Youtube, as the game runs a little smoother and doesn't lag too much, which I think looks nicer on video! I also delete all my raw footage after I have finished editing/rendering as the files can get pretty big

edit: forgot to include this (idk if useful) but my OBS settings are set to recrod at 60FPS at a resolution of 1920x1018

I do use a mic! My first few videos were just recorded on a cheap bluetooth headset I used for work but the sound quality was pretty bad, haha. TBH I don't know much about mics, my partner is a musician and has a bunch of mics & equipment so I just borrowed his stuff lol! The mic is an Audio Technica AT2020 condenser microphone and its plugged into a M-Audio M-Track Solo USB audio interface (as the mic wouldnt plug into the PC otherwise, the interface also lets you adjust the gain which is nice) but idk if you really need something that fancy. I usually see people reccommend the Yeti mic for YouTube, which doesn't need an audio interface, idk if it is actually good or not but it seems like a popular choice?

Although if you are just starting out, I would not invest in any expensive mics or anything right off the bat - since you want to see if you actually enjoy the process of making videos first before spending any money on it! (For me at least I spend a LOT more time editing footage than recording it, it's very time consuming, although I think some creators do a lot less editing so its a style preference maybe). IMO Just start out with whatever you have and you can always upgrade later.

Also, the main thing I learned quickly which I think helped me about as much as using a better mic was having good "mic discipline". That's like, making sure your head/mouth is always the right sort of distance away from the microphone, making sure its positioned properly, trying to keep the volume you speak consistant, etc. I am still not always the best at this tbh! but am getting better :D

i reccomend doing this actually, because it lets you see a couple of things u wouldnt see otherwise - like when someone who is shadowbanned likes or reblogs your posts.

also if someone liked and then unliked your post, it still shows up as a notification that they liked it, but there isnt one for them unliking it. that same principle happens with following someone. and if the notification keeps coming it just stacks. so

Idk. I mean on the one hand threatening the CEO while saying "I wonder what itll take to get me banned" DOES fall under Play Stupid Games Win Stupid Prizes, but. I still have a lot more sympathy for Predstrogen than Photomatt in all this.

I get that threats of violence are never okay but enforcement has been alarmingly selective over Tumblr's history. Yeah Photomatt blames that on an "external contractor" but that doesnt let Tumblr off the hook imo, thats still a choice you made. You DECIDED to contract with them, and therefore you should take some responsibility, and not just shrug it off as someone else's doing. Foisting responsibility onto others is a very VERY childish move, up there with naming a company after yourself!

The reality is, as a trans woman online, I've been chased off one platform after another, while watching cis people who do the same shit as me get away with it endlessly. I got doxxed by Nazis on twitter way back when, you wanna know how Twitter protected me? By recommending I block the user. I got harassed so heavily during that era that I ended up having to delete my account, setting back my career YEARS, just to get a bit of peace.

Now here on Tumblr I've been slightly safer, but I still get death threats, suicide suggestions. And I've had a LOT of those continue on without a hitch on technicalities. "Technically they didnt tell you to kill yourself, they just told you to join the 41%, which could mean ANYTHIIIIING". 🙄 Still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, because my work and life experience has shown me that moderation of communities is a tricky thing: make one move that could be viewed as overstepping policy or making exceptions, and you open yourself to lawsuits. I know this, I have written policy and enforced it in different spaces.

But the answer in these cases is to update your policies to clarify, not to continue blindly following these bad policies. And, in situations wherein a person with a platform DOES seem to be sending death threats over a genuine misunderstanding, maybe try talking it out with them first??? Does your policy not take that into account Photomatt? Every policy I've ever seen on user code of conduct allows for discussion. So why not just talk it out with Predstrogen and clear up the misunderstanding instead of deleting her account and threatening to call the cops on her?

@photomatt that post comes across to me (and seemingly the greater trans community here) as immensely tonedeaf. Predstrogen made a frankly extremely unserious "threat post" about you (car covered in hammers? Really? This sounds like a real threat to you?) most likely angry over some misunderstanding over the management of this site (something which transfem people are IMMENSELY on guard regarding because well, have YOU SEEN THE NEWS LATELY), and you decided to react by hitting her with a ban, no appeals allowed, and *threatening to call the cops on her*??? It straight up feels like you didnt even try to empathize, to recognize your privilege, to understand, none of that. And you may be thinking reading this "I shouldnt have to do that while being threatened!" But again, the threat example you use is not one which is really actionable on Preds part. Its a *joke*, albeit a poorly chosen one.

I did see a post this morning that said "if Photomatt saw the kind of death threats I receive daily he'd throw up" or smth to that effect, and god thats the truth here. If you want to prove otherwise then stop this crusade and talk it out like an adult.

Basic worldbuilding stuff/context:

My oc universe is a medieval fantasy type setting. Magic exists and is a set of skills you can learn like you could any other skill, not everyone knows it and not everyone bothers learning it. All my (current) ocs live in one kingdom together ruled by one queen and her royal court, who are basically a few of her friends advisors who she herself picks to be part of her court.

None of the people in my universe are fully human, they have a human form which is that catgirl-type-thing and an animal form which is basically a talking quadrapedal (or- well- not anthro) animal. They can change forms at will and most people swap between the two multiple times per day. Wild/normal non-people animals are called 'feral' animals, or 'ferals', since if you just say 'animal' you could just be referring to a person in animal form and that would very quickly get confusing.
