This is a fandom thing

AITA for accusing that publicly someone of intentionally posting their fics whenever I posted?

For context, I am autistic and write some fics that I post on AO3. But I ended up deleting my account there because some people started leaving me pornographic comments on the fics. All those comments were deleted along with the stories.

I will get to the main story now. I posted fics for a ship that I liked, but I also noticed that the fics barely got any views. So I decided to check the tags and see that someone else had also posted something which pushed my fics down from being the top post. I thought it was no big deal at first.

The second time I posted a fic for the ship, the same person also posts something around the same time. Once again, their fic pushed mine down from being on the top. And from what I saw, they got twice as many viewer interactions as I did. I thought that maybe it was just a coincidence that they posted when I did.

But then it happened a third time, then a fourth time, then a fifth time. Every time I posted for that ship, they posted something for that ship. I spoke to some friends about it and they said that they did not think it was just a coincidence. They were sure that this person was doing it with malicious intent.

Why would they think that you may ask? Because before I started posting my fics, I had said that I did not think it was fair that the ship had more fics for the male version of the mc than for the female version of the mc and that we could band together and post more fics for her. And then that person had made a since deleted post about how "female [character name] stans are the most annoying and obnoxious people in existence. All they do is boo hoo and whine when they don't get their content. If they are so upset, then those dumbasses should make the content themselves."

I decided to message this person because I saw that they had a tumblr account, and they just ignored all my messages. I ended up joining a discord servers they were in and I messaged them about how they kept posting fics when I did. They ignored my dms but were active in the servers. Since they kept ignoring me, I called them out in the server. Only then did they respond to me. They told me that it was just a coincidence and that I was just being overly sensitive. The other members in the server got on their side and called me rude and unprofessional for not keeping it in dms. I told them that I tried to but I kept getting ignored. The other members told me not to take the fic posting thing seriously and that it was no big deal and that I should just drop it instead of being upset.

I kept quiet after that and went back to posting fics for the ship, but the same person continued to post whenever I did. I pointed it out to the rest of the server and they called me an asshole for bringing it up again. So I just deleted everything on ao3 and left all the servers. I feel like giving up on writing now. It sucks because that was something I loved doing, but this experience has soured it for me.

'If you go look at the Patreon-exclusive Discord thread I have for this episode—and yeah, I recognize this is an extremely venal opening sentence—there’s a moment where I note that the second pre-released clip, with the “David Tennant spits out ‘the Toymaker’ in the same voice he did ‘the Macra’” moment, was squarely at the twenty minute mark, and where I bet on another big turn at 40. And yes, I knew my spoilers and was expecting bi-generation, but I still just want to start by pointing out the fucking clockwork of it. In fact there’s another turn at roughly 30–that’s where the “return to 2023” beat happens, neatly bisecting the second act. And I think that’s key, in the face of the sheer, stupid cheek of this episode, to understanding why it works so well.

I mean, it’s worth saying it out loud, just so I can get it quote-posted on Tumblr—a pantsless Ncuti Gatwa emerges like Athena, instantly establishes himself as the faggiest Doctor ever to fag, then hits the TARDIS with a giant mallet because “we won the game, you get a prize honey” to split it in two so that David Tennant can be the Doctor forever. You can’t make it up, not least because Russell T Davies already did. It sounds like a joke, and in many ways is—the clue’s in the title and all. It was essentially spoiler-proofed, because anyone who’s the sort of fan that’s pouring over spoilers reads that and is just left wondering how this could possibly work out. And the answer is that it’s being done by a damn maestro of the form who understands how to structure the mother of all throat clears before you go and reset the show for gen alpha TikTok users.

The central trick is, of course, that third act pivot into doing a multi-Doctor story for the anniversary after all, with David Tennant having turned out to be the past Doctor all along. That is, above all else, simply fabulous television, and Davies understands that all you actually have to do is put it on a platter. Everything around it is just a series of decisions about tone—an almost mechanistic execution of scaffolding to ensure that moment is a thunderous drop that sends the dance floor wild instead of landing with a damp thud of authorial perversity. It’s fitting that he has the Toymaker attack through television because at the end of the day this operates through literally nothing save for the fact that Davies understands how to use the medium to engineer what is at the end of the day its original pleasure—its creation of cultural events. At the end of the day, there are rules, and Davies knows how to play.

Much as with Rose, there’s a real temptation to break it down scene by scene, but this is the fast reaction, so let’s work in outline. Like I said, three act structure. Act one uses a cold open to put two premises on the table: Neil Patrick Harris is a weird evil guy and he’s done something to television. Then, on the other side of the credits, it shows Harris again as an evil clown and has him wave goodbye and exit the story. Davies proceeds to enter the UNIT show—a backdoor pilot for an entirely coherent Kate Stewart show complete with whatever the fuck the V’linx is besides an absolutely gorgeous reveal (one of the rules there—if the Doctor just accepts something so will the viewer). We tarry in its pleasures a bit—reintroduce Shirley, reveal/establish Mel, and give everyone a couple good beats, including for the first time bothering to use the fact that you’ve got Jemma Redgreave in the part (her shattered horror at her own actions and apology to Shirley!). And we have the Doctor and Donna catch up with the cold open, untangling the “evil television” thing so it can be explained more slowly to the viewer. Twenty minutes in, he dutifully brings Harris back, catching the other ball thrown by the cold open and moving into the second act.

As I noted, this one’s bifurcated. We do ten minutes of spooky horror set pieces while we reiterate the emotional beats from Wild Blue Yonder (another rule there—explain something twice to the audience in rapid succession and they’ll both understand it and understand it as important), split the Doctor and Donna up, give them each a scene’s worth of puppet horror, then get them back together so the Doctor can confront the Toymaker. This mostly just means monologue set pieces—Davies rolls out a bit of rhythmic poetry and gives it to a good actor. We gesture at the past, then conspicuously throw a ball for the future to catch, thus reminding the audience there is one. And in a puff of smoke we vanish back to 2023, crashing the Toymaker back into the first premise. Ten more minutes of the UNIT show round out the act, anchored by the musical number because hey, you did hire Harris for the part, and then do a monologue duel before the Toymaker kills the Doctor fifteen minutes early to kick off the third act.

And it is here, of course, that Davies makes his move. At first it looks like we’re just going to do a shock pivot to Gatwa, which is already clever—an unexpected use of the rules right as the narrative collapses, like you do. And then we do a record-scratch moment—literally, as Gold cuts the soundtrack—use the Doctor accepting something to sell it (lol at the shrugged reprise of “feel’s different this time”), swirl the lights a different color, strike up the band a second time, and bigenerate (even bigger lol at splitting the triple what across characters).

From here, everything hinges on one bet—the same bet, ultimately, that everything hinges on in the larger cultural context. Davies has given us two hours and forty minutes of nostalgic greatest hits reprises. Now he needs to give us twenty minutes of Gatwa being phenomenal. There’s scaffolding, of course—it’s the mother of all “use the predecessor’s cast to establish the new guy” new Doctor stories, and an astonishing amount of the heavy lifting is done by Tennant’s no doubt entirely sincere reinvention of his character as “past Doctor fannishly awe-struck by the future.” But at the end of the day it comes down to Gatwa. And what can you say but that you see why Davies gave him the part.

There’s a trick that’s useful sometimes in analyzing horror films where you figure out the theme by just literally stating the premise—It Follows is about how the stigma of sexuality follows women, Us is about how Black people have suppressed second selves, Tetsuo the Iron Man is about the constant agony of living in an industrialized society. And here it seems relevant to note that Gatwa defeats the Toymaker through sheer physicality. In his underwear. Which is to say that his performance is electric and charismatic—an instantly libidinous Doctor so charming the plot stops mattering, collapsing instead into a queer-off between Gatwa and Harris. Gatwa wins, of course—how could he not with all that beach-off experience from Barbie—and Harris is ushered offstage with ten minutes to go.

All that remains is for Tennant to hand over the keys, which he does with grace, dutifully reprising the Time Lord Victorious in all its burnt out horror so that Gatwa can pull him into a hug and say “I’ve got you” before sending him off to heal himself in a queer platonic relationship with Donna. Gatwa’s the Doctor now. It happened, just about five hours ago. It’s majestic. I can’t wait for more.

* So here’s the most criminal act of burying the lede I’ll ever commit. TARDIS Eruditorum Volume 8 is out. Covering the strange and surreal wilderness years of Paul McGann and the show’s triumphant return in the birth of what I suppose is now the RTD1 era. I’m hitting publish on the ebook edition as we speak, so it might be a bit before it’s live on Amazon—here’s the Smashwords link, which is live now if you want to use that—but the paperback is available for order right now and will arrive before Christmas.

* As for Church on Ruby Road, man, that trailer looks fun. Introducing the Doctor in a club is breathtakingly fresh, and the trailer handles the goblins reveal so well. The whole thing looks completely mad. Can’t wait to hear the single on Monday.

* So, um… Tennant and Tate pretty much have to come back some day, right? Like, Davies has season finales to execute, and he’s not going to leave a gun that big just sitting on the mantlepiece, is he?

* A detail I like is that this mirrors the plot of Journey’s End, right down to the spare Doctor going off and living a quasi-normal life with the companion. There’s a lot of quiet parallels to be had here actually—the fact that Rose was also a toymaker, for instance, or the fact that the Toymaker and the Not-Things largely share motivations. All left entirely to subtext, acting as thematic reverb to give the episode more heft and weight.

* For all that it’s funny to read the lack of Chibnall companions in the Toymaker’s monologue as a dig, the real shade is being playfully thrown at Moffat for his tic of fake-killing companions. Once that’s gone three iterations, Davies structurally has to move on and so captures the Chibnall era in a reprise of the Flux angst from Wild Blue Yonder. No, the Chibnall shade is “I made a jigsaw of your history. Did you like it?”

* Speaking of the rule of three, using “Mavic Chen” to round out a list with the Time War and the Pandorica is god tier.

* All right, all right, I’m obliged to give my Toymaker take. Which is that Davies is very clever retconning the Toymaker as a character who just likes doing absurd caricatures of various nationalities. It doesn’t actually make The Celestial Toymaker any better, but it’s enough to salvage the character for a reprise.

* The more interesting reprise to my mind is Mel. We knew she was coming back for Gatwa, so her appearance here is more a moment of fleeting surprise, but it’s yet another example of Davies’s cool-eyed savviness—Bonnie Langford is by an order of magnitude the highest profile actor to serve as a classic series companion, and as with Jemma Redgrave Davies doesn’t have to do much more than actually give her stuff to do. The callback to her nonexistent debut story to establish her as an orphan is such a deft bit of characterization, and an intriguing parallel to Ruby, and for that matter the Timeless Child, whether or not that’s ever picked up on explicity.

* Which, it has to be said, gives at least some setup justification for bigeneration, if only because it justifies a slightly more “eh fuck it” take on regeneration in general. I gather Davies goes further in this direction on the commentary, which I’ll catch before I do the podcast.

* The fact that the Toymaker claims to have killed God is given entertaining credibility by trapping the Guardians in voodoo dolls and the Master in a gold tooth. Which, love the “cultist hand saves the Master” reprise.

* The invocation of the Gods of Ragnarok makes the absence of Fenric conspicuous. Think I’ll place a long shot bet on him as the big bad for Gatwa’s first season.

* By far the best bit of continuity fetishism, however, is the Alex Jones remake of Trinity Wells.

* Also if you complain that I said Gatwa was pantsless because he was properly just trouserless I will fire you into the sun.

* Let’s close this out with a note on Fourteen, even if we’re probably not saying goodbye to him. First of all, I love him accepting regeneration calmly—“it’s time” instead of “I don’t want to go,” and a cavalier “allons-y” to match Whittaker’s “tag you’re it.” But more to the point, I love the Doctor relaxing into found family, building force fields for his beloved moles, happier than he’s ever been in his life. Tennant commented that he and Davies largely decided to approach the task of how to handle the fact that this version of Tennant’s Doctor is older by just assuming that the fact that they were both older would come through. And I think there’s nowhere that’s clearer than Davies having the Doctor find peace in a distinctly queer shape of love.

hi everyone! sorry its been a Minute since i posted anything. the downside of working in motorsport is it gets BUSY very fast and it gets hard to keep up with everything else, including this blog. thought i would share a couple of things that happened/are happening that the motorsport fans of tumblr would appreciate.

first, thanks to everyone who's stuck by and stayed around despite me not posting anything (i KNOW i KNOW sorry for no content this season) and big thanks to everyone who has hopped in the indyblr discord this season! i appreciate all of u :) sending you big hugs

second, i wrapped up my first full year in motorsports (can you believe its only been a year, i feel like i've aged 10 years) and am transitioning away from the arca menards series. its been fun but i have another opportunity awaiting me. we had a lot of ups and downs, but the real fun was the friends and experiences we made along the way. not saying where i'm going yet but it'll be cool and im excited

third, if you didn't hear the news, there has officially been an openly lgbtq+ crew chief in a nascar-sanctioned series. that would be ME MOTHERFUCKERS!! thanks to my boss for the opportunity to do something wild in the last race of the season and to nascar: no takesies backsies >:) . we went from 17th to 12th and got the hard charger award. my driver also made history as the only driver to race in 6 decades and got his 300th start so yknow thats kinda cool. the full shore lunch 200 at toledo is available RIGHT HERE (please mind the fs1 comm booth i know they're bad) if you wanna watch. it would also be cool if you would check out the team's highlight reel and give it some views. hopefully not the last time i'll be on the stand so stay tuned! if you had dreams of being the first one in nascar sorry :( but you can still be the first truck series crew chief, xfinity series crew chief, or even cup series crew chief. the door is open now, follow your dreams!

So, gonna rant for a minute into the void.

I just got banned from a discord server, and man, am I hurt. Like, really hurt. Sad, angry, all mixed up, you name it.

See, the main problem is this one other member of the server. They were going through some hard times, and I tried to comfort them. But i find empty platitudes like “everything will get better” and “it will be okay” to be annoying and frustrating, so I tried to be a bit real and say something like “things could get worse, but they will hopefully get better”. And this person was like “what you said was really painful, can you give me some space?” (this a day after blocking me and ignoring me). And I was like, sure?

Then, a day or two later, they were having a problem and talking about it in the food and health chat, and I had an answer; wanting to be helpful, because I knew they were going through hard times, and because I knew they had blocked me they could not see my normal posts, I tagged them. I figured, one comment, they’d see, did not have to reply, and could keep going on with their day.

But they reported me to a mod.

The mod got on my case about “not giving them space” as they requested. Okay, so no more being helpful, got it.

Well, I did my best.

Thing is, this discord server has these things called Food Checks, where those of us struggling to eat get tagged by everyone doing the food check, generally 3-5 times a day, and we, and anyone else in the server, reports on what we ate. Its a good reminder to eat. While, this other person, me, and a third person (who I am pretty sure also has me blocked, but has not made an issue of it or told me why), have all asked to be tagged.

You can see the issue already. If I do a food check I can either 1) not tag a person who has requested it, which everyone else in the server can see, and makes me look like a jack ass, or 2) tag a person who has asked me to give them space, and potentially look like a jack ass to that one person. While, I’ve tagged them twice before in food checks and have not been told anything, because they are food checks and I tag everyone who is currently requesting it.

While I guess they reported it again, because I woke up this morning to be told I was banned.

What? You say. Two times I failed to give one person space on a large server and I was banned? Yeah, I was surprised too. The mod also quoted two long conversations from like Dec/Jan, where “we struggled to get any response from you that indicated a willingness to adjust for our community“, so they could make it seem like its more than just one person has a problem with me, but its still BS.

See, the previous conversations? Two jokes I made didn’t hit right. The first was a joke about a dog who didn’t look like a dog, and the second was a joke about a book by the author who the server is dedicated to - the author herself is there, and she was not offended by the joke - but other people in the server were like “she could be offended by this joke who dare you” sooooo?

But like, jokes not hitting is not something that needs change. Its a cultural miscommunication or misunderstanding that only needs understanding from both sides that their cultural and personal experiences are different and the things they think are funny are and can be different. The thing is, the people in this server seem to think that ANY and ALL miscommunications are the result of FLAWS IN ONE PERSON (the person who annoyed or offended someone else, never the person who got offended out of nowhere), and that that person must change their communication drastically. This is wrong, and greatly so, and creates a very toxic atmosphere.

Also, I did demonstrate a willingness to change? I talked it out with them until I figured out that the tone of the comments, and the inability of everyone to read the tone was largely the problem, and therefore I should try to use tone indicators (like tumblr does in parenthesis), and that I would do so. That was a willingness to change! But I refuse to admit my joke wasn’t funny for anyone ever and I am so sorry to have offended all of reality, when sorry, in certain circles my jokes were funny, and the author herself wasn’t offended how could they even justify the whole damn argument on that issue?

Anyway, so now I’m banned, I lost a whole circle of friends I was just beginning to really click with, and now I am back to only my family to talk to. I am going to on the verge of tears all day, and I don’t even know what I can do about it. Is there anything to do? Do I want to bother? Is a problem with what seems like 2 or 3 members of the community worth losing the entire community over? (especially if at least one or two of those members are mods?)

Will anyone even notice I’m gone?

Disclaimer: YMMV on any of these interpretations. I tried to avoid repetition and the temptation to multiclass, which is why I limited the number of characters to the base game. (Strong fought Cait for the Barbarian slot and lost.)

I also stuck to core D&D 5E archetypes and backgrounds… except where I didn’t. Call it my Chaotic streak.

Why the little arrows: a lot of the characters’ arcs or core conflicts could be represented as a tension between squares on the alignment chart. Not all of the characters are comfortable in their alignments or even destined to remain static where I placed them.

A couple more notes on alignment in general:

As I'm using it here, alignment is first and foremost a roleplaying tool that guides a character’s choices and actions. FO4 has a great cast of companions with really rich characterization—richer, I think, than fans sometimes give it credit for.

The lack of clear-cut LG and CE characters among the companions is notable and I think it reflects the writing's deliberate tilt to ambiguity and shades of gray. You could argue for CE among the raiders, etc., but the Fallout universe really isn't one that lends itself to LG characters. It’s very hard for a character to be both Good and Lawful in a world where institutions are all basically corrupt.

It's not entirely crapsack either, though; there’s reason for hope and there’s goodness and resilience among all the muck. Very few people or even factions are all good or all bad. (Except the Legion. All my homies hate the Legion.)

Once again: YMMV! Even where canon agrees on a character’s actions, you might interpret their motivations differently or weight the consequences differently. It’s all for fun. (Please don’t leave me nasty notes. That is not a Good action.)

Also, can I just say that formatting this kind of post for Tumblr is a pain in the butt. Tumblr is Chaotic Evil.

Lawful Evil - X6-88

Pretty much a textbook example of this alignment. X6 is driven by loyalty to authority in a way that many of the other Evil-aligned characters aren’t (e.g. Gage, who I’d put as comfortably Neutral Evil).

Equally driven by a desire for order, but less willing to commit atrocities for it is Danse.

Lawful Neutral - Danse

Danse aspires to be a Good guy—he tries really hard to be one—but when we meet him, we see him actively suppressing his own, more humane instincts in service of the ideals of the Brotherhood.

Here are some possible adjectives describing lawful neutral characters: reliable, responsible, truthful, orderly, loyal, respectful of authority, regular, structured, rigid, neat, methodical, and precise. (source)

Yep. That’s him.

Chaotic Neutral - Hancock, Cait, MacCready

Cait and Mac are solidly Chaotic Neutral. Cait is a little further south on the Good/Evil axis, but neither of them are bad people: their focus is on them and theirs. Survival first, everything else second. A very Neutral attitude.

This one is going to be controversial, since I think a lot of people read him as Chaotic Good, but I’d put Hancock over the border into Neutral too. I think his intentions are good, but he does a little too much stabby-stabby and overlooks a little too much gang violence to be Good; really, his character is all about the contradiction between his ideals and his (in)actions.

Actually, Danse and Hancock are good foils for each other. They're almost polar opposites on the law/chaos axis, but in terms of morality land at about the same place: both want to be good guys, but—at least when we meet them in FO4—neither of them are doing what they would need to to be Good guys.

But someone else is, and that's...

Chaotic Good - Deacon

Deacon was a really interesting character to ponder. I actually suspect his original or “natural” alignment is something closer to True Neutral… but he’s dragged himself into Chaotic Good by virtue of his actions and his desire to atone for past mistakes. (Looking at it in that light, when we meet him in FO4, he’s still “balancing out” that dip into Evil in his youth. Aiming for a lifetime average of Neutral??)

Neutral Good - Preston, Curie, Codsworth, Nick, Piper

The busiest square in the chart!

Within it, Nick and Piper lean Lawful and Chaotic respectively, but I’d argue that they both still fall within the bounds of Neutral Good. Piper opposes authority because it’s corrupt, not because she believes in fighting authority for its own sake; Nick supports order in general but also recognizes the potential for the abuse of power.

Codsworth might be a little lower on the Good/Evil axis than the others, I think (some of his commentary is hilariously/alarmingly violent) but overall, he’s pretty committed to being a good bot.

Preston and Curie are comfortably Neutral Good, in my reading. Both are very concerned with doing good and improving the world; both will defy an unjust law but also disapprove of unnecessary shenanigans.

Hi and welcome to my second Tumblr recap. This time we have a look on the month of October. It was a very stressful and life changing month for me. Doors closed, doors opened. ➵ A new WIP has joined the chat: Project Stardust. I announced it already in the last recap, but since then nothing really happened with this idea… Still waiting for some inspiration…

➵ I worked a bit on The Legacy of the Airdra, but nothing much happened there. Mostly re-reading and remembering the details (since I forgot to write them down in summer 2020).

➵ Wings of Fate: I wish I could tell you more, but I haven’t written anything for weeks. It’s mocking me right now, sits in front of me with my favorite characters and telling me “you have no ideas!” Thats unfair…

➵ Something else has come onto my desk last week: A pen and paper game. 2019 was the first year, I actually wrote an adventure for a pen and paper game I founded. The game itself is already in the trash can, but the adventure still exists. I met a friend last weekend, who publishes adventures regularly for a german game called Midgard (my main system). And guess, who is thinking about publishing their first written thing ever? Yes! Correct! Me. 😁 So, stay tuned!

Now to the messy part of the story…

Remember, how I told you in the September recap, my life is messy and I hope October will be better? Yeah, no.

It got worse.

Some of you may have heard that I study math. This winter semester is actually my last semester in the mathematics department.

A lot of things have happened in the last few weeks. Some were nice (I went to a private convention for Pen&Paper Roleplay), some were…not so nice.

No one actually knows that I change my department from math to computer science, except my parents, a friend of mine and the managing director of the cs department. And to know, that people will sigh in relief when they hear I quit, is kinda sad.

I don’t think that I couldn’t do it. I still believe, I am able to study math, but it is actually the department that makes me go away. Professors, who ask me openly how I passed exams because “you have no clue about the subject”. Managing directors, who tell me at the beginning of my third semester “you have passed the exams with 4.0. Have you thought of quitting?”. Students, who should help you, telling you: “How don’t you know that? We’re not telling you. You should know.”

I could go on about this, but I won’t. But this made me quit in the end. In a subject, that gets less and less students each year. When I first started, we were about 70 people in our semester. After three weeks, the number dropped to 60 and after the first exam, we were probably around 40. Now, I see around 15 people from my semester at university. Everyone else quit.

I believe, a lot of my mental health issues came from this department and the people there. Being be one nobody wants to have around, really does something with you. I always tried to prove my right to those people. My right to be part of this department. But in the end, I have to admit: You cannot change the opinion of other people.

Normally, I am a person, that finished everything what I started. Not this time. The new department excites me! The opportunity to work with my computer, with codes and software, being able to still have my science part and nevertheless be more practical, makes me happy. I should have quit way earlier, this is true. But without all those struggles, I would not be the person, I am today.

I have a feeling, that things may go different from here. Just like a new chapter awaits me.

You sent me anonymous asks twice, defending RWDE.

Now tell me...why on earth are you accusing other people of sending anonymous hateful asks to themselves, when you have literally sent anonymous asks to the very people you are accusing?

Do you even hear the cognitive dissonance in this?

Do you want proof of the first time I was impersonated?

I can provide not only a Twitter Link, but a Tumblr post. Where the person who accused me later acknowledged that it was an imposter.

Or you can embrace tunnel vision and think that any time you've sent me or somebody else an anonymous ask, that person was sending them to themselves and it was never you?

If you believe anything about somebody you don't like, then you will fall for everything.

Now my friends and I are working on building up evidence to prove my innocence. that person already accused them of being me.

But then again, you refuse to believe that anyone would defend us. That bias of yours is why you are so deadset on believing the worst of others.

Drop the tunnel vision. Drop the hyperfixation on the bias. And start trying to see if impersonation is possible.

I'm going to try find a way to prove how those discord screenshots were doctored.

D) Uh did you mess up that last sentence? Cause yes, your discord screenshots were absolutely doctored and very obviously fake. Oh, or are you trying to "prove" the post calling you out and debunking your lies was doctored? Cause, no... you're just defaulting to your oldest tactic: when accused, respond with "no, YOU did that to ME" even though that does nothing to counter the proof already exposed about you (you also just did that when going "well someone impersonated ME so you can't accuse me of making fake accounts!")

E) you're the one who targeted me, sending yourself anon hate and tagging me in it with "THESE ARE THE PEOPLE UR DEFENDING??" when I had clearly stated several times that I did not defend hatred or harassment of any kind. You then started tagging anyone who agreed with me in this hate, even after I asked you to stop.

F) what happened to your asks/replies telling me I'm "one of the good ones" who makes "thought out and kind critiques"? What changed besides me calling you out for the harassment and bullying you've engaged in for years?

The only part of this ask I'd potentially be willing to take at face value is the part where you got upset for me claiming you send yourself anon hate. You're right, that's something I don't technically know. (idk why you assumed whatever anons you're referring to are me). But there have been enough instances of you clearly pretending to be someone else, including a time you've ADMITTED to having done so. Regardless, even if you didn't do so, that doesn't undo any of the awful stuff you have verifiably done. Countless people have shown evidence of your lies and hate, and I wanted to believe they were wrong, but that time of hopeful ignorance has passed.

I am an understanding person who gives the benefit of the doubt, as well as second, third, and hundredth chances. I want to see the good in everyone, including you. Time and time again you've shown that if we give an inch, you take a mile, and use our kindness to further harass anyone who dares stray from your own opinions or interpretations. And I don't mean 'harass' as in 'sending a mean anon', I mean repeated hate, slander, and block evading, making fake accounts just to continue trying to make people's lives miserable, etc. I tried to give you a chance and extend that opportunity for you to listen, grow, or change, but you won't admit any wrongdoings, and that's a nonstarter.

Daemon Form Types

Hello, everyone! My survey has closed, and I've taken some time to go through the results, and I'm happy to share everything with you all! You can find the raw data for this survey here! I encourage people to poke around and see if they can discover anything I haven't mentioned below! The first tab is the data basically unfiltered, and then in the second and third tabs I went in and smoothed things out (making the capitalization and spelling consistent to consolidate answers, etc). The only thing I removed were some of the info from the very last "anything else?" at the end of the survey; some people left personal notes to me and it seemed a bit egotistical to air those to the general public, haha.

I’m putting this under a cut because it gets long:

Points and things to consider before I show this data: This data only applies to a certain subset of the community (namely, people that like to answer surveys, and have fitting forms). I'm also sure I tend to use a very TDF-style lens of framing and defining things, which might turn off people in other communities; I gather the tumblr community in particular has some different ways of doing things? I know some people do not like to differentiate their forms with words like "analytic", "symbolic", etc, and they likely felt excluded by this survey, which was unfortunate. But I wasn't sure how to word a question for people like that without potentially confusing people who do use those differentiations. Eg; asking about a "main form" or "primary form" or just "your form" might confuse people who have forms in multiple systems but feel they are all equally valuable. While I encouraged people to share this survey around, my daemian presence is mostly here on the forum, on discord, and on twitter, so my results are likely skewed away from tumblr, reddit, amino, and other communities, as I didn't have a way to boost there much personally. (Well, my daemon does have a tumblr, which I am using now, but it has less than 75 followers, so I won't pretend anything I put out here gets much reach, haha.) With that out of the way, here are the results! We had 90 respondees, which is a decent amount! Of them, 69 (haha, nice) had an analytic form, 60 had a symbolic form, 52 had a personal form, and 48 had a comfort form. (Please note that for ease of communication I refer to to form, singular, but there were a decent number of people who indicated that they had multiple forms in at least one system.) Considering the more established length of analytic, and the communities I tend to interact with, this spread and slightly analytic lean makes sense. Do you consider yourself (or your daemon) settled?

The cut off write-in reads: Not technically settled (I need to do more form-finding...), but my dae does usually stay in the one form I was curious if there had been a move away from using settled as a term, since most people I know don't tend to believe they will have one form for the rest of their lives, especially in analytic. There's less comfort forms than I would have expected? I wonder if this is just a less popular term these days, and people prefer to use the term personal form? Or maybe just not categorize this type of form at all? This category has the largest mammal bias of all of the ones we've looked at, but I think that makes sense, considering comforting forms are supposed to be, well, comforting! And I can see why a person may be more comforted by a cuddly dog more than, say, a teensy centipede. Extinct forms: 4 had extinct forms. That's 8.5% of respondents. Domestic forms: 12 had domestic forms. That's 25% of respondents, which is a lot, though I'm almost surprised it's not a higher percentage than the percentage for symbolic forms. --- Pretty neat! I'm happy I ran this survey, and the results are pretty cool. I like seeing that, though there is a mammal bias as a whole, throughout all of the systems there is a pretty decent spread of which types of mammals people gravitate towards. Though, you can probably argue that canines and felines are still over-represented, based on how many species of those there are compared to all other mammals. I will also note that anecdotally, a lot of the "other" mammal forms seem to fall under a category I would call "slinkiformes", which includes most mustelids, but also mongooses, viverrids, etc. (Do  people still use that term? It was popular here back in the day...)

I have one more data set, but it is specifically about the forum’s form demographics, so I recommend checking out the forum to see more of that. :)

Exchange Posting Guide

Hello, friends and frenemies! We are less than three days away from the collection opening, which means I have a tension headache every morning I wake up and remember that I have to finish my exchange fic. The no-fault defaulting deadline has passed, but if you realise you will not be able to finish on time please, please let us know ASAP anyway so we can get a knight writer to write your recipient a gift.

On the other hand, if you have completed your exchange fic draft, please remember to tell us before the 1st! About a third of the participants already confirmed they’ve finished their fic, and we say:

Okay, now with the collection opening soon, here’s some FAQ on posting!

First off, how dare you?

Honestly, I ask myself that all the time, and the answer is there is no answer. We knew what an exchange would be like. Chances are, you did too when you signed up because many of you were here last year. We have no one else to blame but ourselves.

How does posting work?

The exchange portal will open on August 1st at 12pm AEST. Once it opens, use AO3 to upload your fic as usual:

Most of the upload process will be exactly the same as usual, but you need to fill in the following two fields:

Fill in the first with “JaimeBrienneFicExchange2021” (It should autofill, but please be careful to select the right collection! This one is the one we're using. Alternatively, you can go straight to that collection and click the “Post to Collection” button on the top right under the banner once the collection is open.)

Type in your recipient’s AO3 name in the second field. Double check your original prompt to ensure you have the correct name. A few people have different tumblr/AO3 names and we don’t want any fics to go awry.

If you've already made an AO3 draft before the 1st, make sure you add it to the collection and put in your recipient's username in the fields we mentioned above, and make sure you change the date when posting (or your fic will be buried). Be aware it can cause some shenanigans where the fic may not appear at the top of the page.

After that, it’s as simple as clicking post! Your fic will be submitted to the exchange and automatically be made anonymous. As the author, when you open your own fic, it will say ‘YourUsername (Anonymous)’, but to other users it will simply say ‘Anonymous’. Author’s names will not be revealed until August 21st, when we click the button to reveal them.

Feel free to reply to comments during that week. As long as you are logged into the account that posted the fic, all of your comments will also be anonymised.

What about Lil’ Oathkeepers?

I’m glad you asked, imaginary exchange participant that’s totally not me talking to myself! A Lil’ Oathkeeper is a gift that can be any size and shape. It can be art! A video edit! A moodboard! A fic shorter than 1000 words! Or… a fic longer than a 1000 words, but you probably know that. Anyone (you don’t even have to be signed up to the exchange) can make and gift a Lil’ Oathkeeper. We’ll be releasing the prompt spreadsheet and posting instructions on the 1st!

Why is the exchange opening a day earlier than you said?

Because Slips has set the time on the exchange to suit her own timezone. She has to stay up till after midnight to watch F1 cars go vroom vroom and had to deal with being spoiled for every single episode of Game of Thrones on Tumblr and Twitter because it aired in the US while she was at work. This is her own petty little vengeance and she will not apologise for that.

Also it’s easier for her to keep everything straight in her head this way. Mathematics is not her strength. We’re kindly moderators though, so here’s a handy timezone conversion for you.

Why do I need to let you know by the 1st that I’ve finished my fic if I can post it anytime during the following week?

So we can find a knight writer ASAP. The sooner we know that you won’t be able to complete your fic, the sooner we can find someone to fill in for you. We don’t want anyone to be disappointed.

Do I have to post ON the 1st of August? I’ll be AFK for the day because my cat has a piano recital!

No, you can post it anytime between the 1st and the 7th. If you can’t or don’t want to post it on Sunday, then you can absolutely wait until later. We anticipate that the bulk of fics will be posted over the weekend, but if you want to post it on the 6th, then that’s absolutely your choice. Just be mindful that your recipient may be worrying why they haven’t received one.

Also tell your cat we’re rooting for them!

I really overshot the 1k limit and need to post multiple chapters. Should I post them together and drop my 40k prompt fill in the tag all at once, or can I stagger it throughout the week?

You must have a complete posted story by the 7th of August, unless you have reached out to us to make alternate arrangements. If you want to post your story over the week, you can. If you want to post it all at once, you can. As long as your prompter gets a completed fic in the posting window, we don’t mind.

(Also, look at your life, look at your choices! It was a 1k minimum!!! Buncha overachievers in this fandom, I swear 😂😂😂)

Can I thank my beta in the notes of my story?

Absolutely you can! The betas of the fandom be working HARD this week, they definitely deserve recognition. Just be mindful of including anything in your notes that might reveal who you are. You could choose to name your beta, or just thank them generally and add their name after authors have been revealed.

What if I don’t receive a story?

It might be because your author hasn’t posted it yet - they have the full week from the 1st to the 7th to post their story. It also might be because your fic needed a knight writer to write it. If this is the case, know that your knight is probably working very diligently to complete it, but might not be able to complete it within the window. If it looks like your fic will be significantly delayed (like until after authors are revealed) we will contact you directly to let you know what’s up.

What’s the etiquette around thanking my author?

A kudos and a comment is pretty standard. It’s up to you how long your comment is; we don’t write comments with our heads, we write them with our hearts. Just keep in mind that a person out there spent time working on something just for you and make sure you show your appreciation, even if the story isn’t exactly what you expected!

Can I promote my story?

Please don’t do this until authors have been revealed through the collection.

Can I rec my gift story?

Absolutely! Share the love! You can choose to rec it while it’s still anonymous, or wait until the authors are revealed. It’s up to you.

I’m not participating in the exchange, but I want to get into the spirit of the week. What can I do?!

Well firstly, read any of the 102 fics we expect to be posted that week! Read them and enjoy them! Leave a kudos! Leave a comment! Leave ten comments! Write rec lists and share them on Tumblr or Discord or TikTok, wherever it is that the cool kids hang these days!

Dragon Age Gift Exchange!

Would you like to get a Dragon Age related gift this season? Would you like to give someone a Dragon Age related gift this holiday season to make it a little brighter? If you said “yes” to each of these, you’re in the right place. If at least 20 people sign up, I’ll run this event. If it’s less than 20 I won’t have enough people to make decent matches. Some people love Solas, some people hate him. Some people adore Cullen, some people can’t stand the sight of him. I want to pair people up who have similar interests to keep it fun for all involved. Rules: It’s very simple. You don’t have to be on Tumblr. Anyone can participate. I have an email box set up specifically for this event. Second: If you want a gift which has to do with your personal Warden, Hawke or Inquisitor, make sure there’s screenshots for them which are easy to find. If you’re using Tumblr, create tags for them.

How it Works:

To make this easy to understand I’m going to call everyone Santa and Elves. If you want to be more Dragon Age, you can call us Griffons and Wardens or something much more interesting.

Santa = Person giving the gift

Elf = Person getting the gift (no relation to Dragon Age elves) Everyone is a Santa and an Elf I have a list of people with their likes and dislikes. 

 - I’ll match a Santa with an Elf. 

 - You’ll get the name of your match, screenshots, links, tags and everything I have to help you make your gift.

- You create the gift.

- Remember, part of the fun is this is a secret! Don’t tell anyone what you’re up to. This is also the hard part! 

 - If the gift is digital, you send it to me.

- If the gift is physical, you’ll mail it to the person. 

 - If the gift is physical, also tell me you’ve mailed it.

- I’ll send the digital gifts between the dates of  December 18, 2020 - December 25, 2020 to the email of your elf. 

- If  you need more time, please contact me. Real life happens, and there’s usually someone who has something come up. That’s okay. Try to be on time, but if there’s an emergency, let me know. 

 - You will receive a gift either at your physical address or in your email at that time, too.

- If  you get a physical gift, please take pictures if you can. This will make your Santa so happy to know their love and hard work is appreciated! 

 - I will share all photos and gifts on this blog.
