Tuk Tuk Thai Cuisine Offers Authentic and Affordable Thai Dishes

There are days when I really crave for Thai cuisine. I really love Thai curries as well as a good hot bowl of Tom Yum soup. I even joined a Thai cooking class a few years ago hoping to improve my culinary skills. Thankfully, it’s so much easier to satisfy my Thai cravings these days since food delivery is always available. I don’t have to order from expensive hotels and Thai restaurants, because I found out that authentic Thai dishes can also be quite affordable at Tuk Tuk Thai Cuisine.

From Palawan to Marikina, Tuk Tuk Thai Cuisine is a popular restaurant in El Nido that had to suspend its operations when the pandemic started. They recently opened a new branch in Marikina City where they can continue to offer their Thai specialties using authentic Thai spices and ingredients. They are located in Mayor Gil Fernandez Avenue, Marikina and are open daily from 10am to 9pm. I haven’t been able to visit their branch yet, which also has a rooftop al fresco dining area, but I was really happy with my yummy Thai delivery last week.

Tuk Tuk Thai Cuisine is actually on WheninManila’s list of 10 Must Try Thai Places for Thai Food Delivery so I was really excited to try it for myself. These are a few of their bestsellers which we had for dinner.

We started with the Yum Woon Sen (P199) for our fresh appetizers. This is a delectable noodle salad with a mix of shrimp, vegetables, and glass noodles tossed with their signature dressing. It’s light and refreshing to eat, a great way to start our Thai journey.

I thought that bagoong was a Filipino ingredient but it turns out that its origins are actually from Thailand. The Bagoong Fried Rice (P199) is one of their traditional dishes using shrimp paste or bagoong mixed with the rice.

Tuk Tuk Thai Cuisine’s version comes with green mango slices, onions and egg on the side. But the highlight of the dish is the special caramelized pork that balances the salty notes of the rice. It’s a strong and powerful combination that will satisfy all the bagoong lovers out there.

For our main dishes, we had the Kapraw Gai (P189) or Thai Basil Chicken. This is a stir fried minced chicken cooked with basil leaves to bring out the flavors. The juicy pieces of chicken are good to go with the bagoong fried rice or even just plain steamed rice.

But our favorite dish at Tuk Tuk Thai Cuisine is definitely the Kad Ped Deang (P259) or Red Curry. This colorful beef curry dish is so aromatic and flavorful. You can really taste the authentic spices and ingredients used to create this gorgeous red curry. Place some sauce on top of hot rice and you really have everything you need. This is also available with chicken instead of beef.

Their dishes are very affordable but you still get the quality of a five-star Thai restaurant. I highly recommend giving them a try. Beautiful aromatics, ripe red berry fruit with a slightly soapy note, this Ramonet was an absolute delight! Down The Cobblestones Of Galeba Lane. Uncle Charles & Aunty Janet (The Countdown Couple) have settled in Galeba, Glendene. They invited Uncle to come visit, explore the nearby eateries and be given 2 artifacts from Angkor Wat as they are downsizing. He was over in a flash. The new abode is certainly cosy as Aunty Janet is a dab hand at cosiness while Uncle Charles nods his head, like one of the Buddha head he’s been pgiven. The gardens have fruit trees bearing mandarins, tangeloes, lemons and grapefruit. There’s a lot of fruit-sharing with Galeban neighbours. Up the Glendene shops, we find Thai, Indian, Pacific Islands, Japanese and a Roast eateries + bakery and cake shops. Our new residents have already tried Tuk Tuk Thai so we traipsed into to have lunch. We shared spicy chicken nibbles; Aunty had Drunken Noodles, Uncle Snr the Beef and Garlic on rice while Uncle Jnr had the Chicken Panang Curry. Mine hosts enjoyed the food and said they plan to make this their local (Thai). The new owners of Bakery Express arye Cambodian; their shop is brimming with all manner of cakes, pies, pastries and Kiwi classics. We took home a fruit flan, a pink lamington and apricot slice; all so delicious and fresh, with our lotus bud tea. So glad my Chin Lang have settled so well so quickly into their new home and adapted to new surroundings.
