Okay I have only seen like 3/4 of TUA season 1. Once Luther got sad and drunk my 2nd hand embarrassment killed me.

Please please please, I give you permission to be specific about how they fucked it up so bad. Cause I know there was time travel bs and then alt universe stuff? But I’m so curious. Please I give you permission.

spolier alert for the umbrella academy series and comics

more than anything the umbrella academy is about the siblings relationships, who they are as people, and the roles theyve been put in by their abusive adoptive father

so from season 1 reckoning with their childhood stuff now that their abusive father is dead to season 2 where you finally see them building lives of their own unburdened by the shadow of their father until...

i love season 2 but really thats where it started to go off the rails when they put reggie back into the story (i wont pretend to know where the comics are going whether their father was going to return in the 4th volume, or that the comics are perfect)

the way the comics focused on the secrets and experiments and whatever reggie was up to coming to light after his death was more interesting especially the reveal that there was another group of super powered heroes hidden away somewhere was devastating like the implications are crazy

there was no alternate universe bullshit in the comics (at least not yet and i pray there isnt) and it just feels like they were going with the multiverse trend thats been popular in recent years i mean they already had time travel thing

season 3 is probably ranked 2nd as the worst season of the four and while it took from the original comics there were also major departures like harlan and his whole thing

i honestly dont want to be that guy that goes on about how they should have been faithful to the source material but the more they strayed from the comics the worse it got season 4 is a testament

they had 4 episodes less to wrap things up so i could understand that they missed a bunch of emotional consequences from what happened the last season (as if they didnt matter but come on man Luther's wife was got disappeared) but then it spent most of the penultimate episode on this kind of gross romance plot that no one asked for between Five and Diego's (his brother) wife Lila

along with the feeling that the writers arent making decisions that made sense with the characters that was the straw that broke the camels back for most fans

this season seemed to forget about what the characters are actually like fundamentally and even reverted characters back to their old self like klaus because i guess they didnt know what to do with him otherwise

it had viktor still yearning for, then finally getting the approval of his father which is a little hollow because he met him with powers so ofc he doesnt think you're useless anymore viktor and anyway you dont need his approval like wasnt this addressed in prior seasons

so yeah the final season ended by redeeming their abuser and having them die to save the world because they were never supposed to be born and their birth doomed the timelines to always end with the world ending because they were born what an absolutely fucked up way to end a story about the effects of abuse

I was worried about Klaus talking to young Dave being creepy but I didn’t think it was in the slightest. Even his facial expressions and tone seemed to match the feeling of a hen you see baby pictures of your partner. Full of love for them but nothing sexual or strange at all. When you meet someone you don’t just love them from that point on, you love all of them. You talk about when they were a kid and laugh at their baby pictures. So seeing young Dave there acting like himself but more shy and maybe a bit more serious, Klaus was overjoyed because 1.) he was alive and 2.) it’s was Dave! Not his Dave, but 100% the man he would fall in love with.

He wasn’t trying to get his boyfriend back at all. He was trying to save his life, meaning, it would make it so that Dave would never even meet him. He was willing to sacrifice everything they had together, even the chance at seeing his ghost, so he could live a long and happy life.

can we talk about how much Diego loves Ben?? like LOVES him. As in ‘I wish it was me bc you’re precious and didn’t deserve this’ loves him.

there’s an apology there, a ‘sorry I couldn’t save you’ there’s grief and mourning but there’s also awe there’s a ‘omg it’s really you”

This hug is an apology and a ‘I miss you’ and an ‘I love you’ all in one, and none of it has to be said

the lighting reflects this too, the blue tint gives the scene a bit of sadness, there’s loss that Diego is feeling and this reunion is bittersweet

and then there’s BEN, Benerino, Benny, Bentacles

he’s so happy to be hugging one of his siblings again to have one of them see HIM, to feel their touch and their skin for the first time in 17 years UGH

he’s just soaking it all in, there’s no resentment

he’s just cherishing this one moment he has with Diego

the lighting in this scene is a lot warmer, yellow, the warmth that comes from Ben finally being able to interact with those he loves and how good he feels and how loved he knows he is in that one moment

don’t even get me started on how fucking SOFT Diego is with him

Diego LOVES Ben, he’s just in awe and you can tell goddamnit

Five just looking so god damn soft at Vanya and telling Klaus “children ride in the back” and making him move out of the front seat, while smiling at her and taking in the front for himself. He’s just so fond of her and I am crying. MY FAV SIBLING BOND REALLY GOT TIME TO SHINE THIS SEASON AND I AM SO HAPPY.

The swedes from TUA season 2 deserve a spin off because

Despite having 1/10th of the total screen time, their characters were significant.

I saw people on insta basicaly saying that the swedes were boring, and nothing compared to hazel and cha cha. In a way, they have a point. (Plz keep in mind that was a very rough summary)

I miss the depth of hazel and cha cha, and I'm very sad that both are dead (but hopefully we see some of their past selves in a future season???) But the swedes had their own depth too. At the end of the show, their whole stick was their brotherly bond with eachother. Axel almost cut off his own hands for crying out loud! THEY ALSO CRIED OUT LOUD FOR THEIR DEATHS.

We didnt get to see as much depth from their characters as others because the swedes arent the type of people to openly show their depth like the other characters. Thus meaning, if they got their own little spin off series, their hidden depth could be further explored.

And no, this spin off series would not be utterly usless.

Not only are there several people who are big fans of the swedes that would enjoy it, the spin off show could explore other parts of the TUA universe also!

What a swedes spin off series could include

All us fellow swede simpers could finaly get some theories proven correct or not. Such as, what time are they originaly from? What happened to their family? We see a pic of them 3 with what looks like a grandma, but that's about all we get. If the show explored the swedes beginnings before the commission, we could finaly learn how the commission recruits new field agents, because surely not everyone is gonna have the same reason as 5 for joining.

We could also learn more about the commission in general. What's it like for new recruits? We saw a little bit when Diego joined for a little bit, but I'm sure theres a lot more branches and depth of the commission itself. What are the other departments like? What's the hierarchy system like? How do people get appointed? How was the commission created? And some people are even out there theorizing theres multiple organizations like the commission.

Not only that, but a lot of us are curious WTF was that shit oscar drank? Why do we never see them with a briefcase? Why dont they wear suits like hazel and cha cha? Why werent they given a hotel room like hazel and cha cha? (Now I'm sure at least a few of those could be on account of the handler unofficially hiring them for the job, but still! How did she convince them? The start wasnt clear. We also dont know how they got to that time for the job)

Not only all of that, but we would also get to explore the depth of their characteristics throughout all of this. How did they struggle as brothers? How did they support and comfort eachother? What were they like outside of commission and off duty? What happened to Axel and the cult after they crossed paths? What happened to the commission afterwards?? More details plz!!!!!

Theres literaly so much we could learn from a spin off series for the swedes, and I will beg (not demand or threaten) for it till my dyeing breath

we all agree that Lila and Diego’s relationship was very unhealthy right?

she drugged him which is creepy enough and forced him to work for a company that blackmailed his brother for years and tried to kill his family

they had sex when he didn’t know her true identity so I don’t know if it was entirely consensual

their entire relationship is built on lies (mostly on her part) and trauma bonding

she chose the mission over him on multiple occasions

she planted herself in a mental institution to build trust with him when he was vulnerable (manipulation tactics)

I have to cut Lila some slack bc of her upbringing —> she definitely didn’t rly understand what healthy relationships and consent was (the Handler gaslighted and manipulated her for her whole life)

I like Lila’s character but for her relationship w/Diego to be healthy there needs to be a lot of growth on both of there parts

as of right now it’s a no from me we’ll see in the future
