'Chosen Ones' takes place in the first few hundred years of the planet Absolem on a continent known as Varune. To combat the hardships of Absolem, people with extraordinary powers began to develop, known as Sparks. And from these Sparks, a Chosen One could form. Our story follows four of these Sparks, and potential Chosen Ones, as they work to discover who the next Chosen One might be.

NOTE: Visuals are provided to help the audience keep track of characters, fights, and scenes, but are not required to enjoy this podcast. Our main platform is youtube, but feel free to listen to us on spotify if that's what works best for you!

Something I really appreciate about @anim-ttrpgs's upcoming Silk & Dagger is that it is in my opinion very approachable when compared to similar games. Which, if you’ve READ Silk and Dagger you might be cocking your head at that claim, because I will admit. Silk and Dagger is unique - it has some mechanics that are doing things I legitimately don’t think I’ve ever seen any other TTRPG do.

But let me explain what I mean. I have, in the past, tried to get into games that, for example, place you as like a British aristocrat or whatever. But these sorts of games - they ASSUME you already kinda know the social norms and stereotypes of Regency Era Gentry. 

…Which like. I don’t. 

But, the conceit of Silk & Dagger promises the very same thing that made those other games attractive to me. It places the player into the restrictive and ridiculous norms of a highly stratified society. BUT since it's a brand new set of fantasy norms, the book EXPLAINS them to you. Making it a far more approachable example of this kind of play because you're not expected to already know the ins and outs of an existing society at a specific point in history. Not only that, the game FULLY mechanicalizes the norms and stratifications in a way none of the other games could. (After all, if they DID I wouldn’t have felt the need to already know them, right?)

Anyways, as far as I know Silk & Dagger is getting an Ashcan release in a month or so, but if all this sounds intriguing to you here’s the patreon. thinking about how there is "Americanized Fantasy" and "American Fantasy"

Americanized fantasy is that vaguely european folklore aesthetic. Like elves, dwarves, gods, demons...etc. You'll see it in stuff like D&D, Warhammer, Video Games, Books... And then theres actual American Fantasy, which is stuff like bigfoot, the jersey devil, mothman, aliens, the wendigo, lizard people, area 51... I think Lovecraft stuff can fit into that too. I think Scooby Doo and Gravity Falls fit into the American Fantasy genre.

528. Various Authors - Dragonlance Tales Volume 1: The Magic of Krynn (1987)

The first volume in the first Tales trilogy (there would be more Tales series), The Magic of Krynn is an anthology of short stories (and some longer ones), exploring the world of Krynn and often filling in gaps in the stories we already know while in other cases actually advancing the stories of some of the main characters we came to know and love. 

The biggest attractions in this volume are the two tales told by the original Dragonlance novelists, with Margaret Weis contributing "The Test of the Twins" which, much as in a previous, lesser developed, Dragon Magazine short-story, tells us of Raistlin's test in the Tower of High Sorcery and the toll this took on himself and Caramon, his twin. 

The longest tale in the volume is by Weis and Tracy Hickman who in "The Legacy" introduce us to "Dragonlance: The Next Generation" as the children of Caramon and Tika deal with their family history and we get to pick up on what happened to Raistlin and everyone after the Legends trilogy. Tales like "Finding the Faith" fill in gaps in the Chronicles trilogy and overall the other stories are generally entertaining if you are into the world of Krynn, which I certainly am.
