Back to Reality

Taking advantage of the private pool one last time and a good breakfast. It's the last day of vacation, then back to Redwood Harbor and hopefully a resolution to the stuck inventory bug!

No sooner did they get home, when... Oh girl, do you really need this heartache right now? I guess maybe if nothing else, you can get some closure. Besides, I'm pretty sure he's dating Jess right now.

Well, that's that. Maybe that trip gave her the fresh perspective she needed to move on. I feel like this is the complete end of Brianna and Reggie now. And on a side note, it DID fix the bug! No more stuck objects!

I originally wanted to use the resort receptionist desk, but putting it on a lot automatically makes it a IP EP Resort, so I had to take it out.

I recommend putting it back in, though, for the aesthetic--unless there's a good decor lookalike; I was too lazy to find one.

WARNING: I have all TS3 EPs installed, plus a few SPs, and I use A LOT of EA's Store CC, so I CANNOT guarantee that this lot will look the same in your gameplay as mine, if y'all don't have the same DLC.

Vavel Vacationaries: CC-Free Community Lot

When I was messing with TS3 during my yearly brief revisit of it, I tried out the resort management gameplay from Island Paradise. I always like to make a single adult sim to try out the huge amount of features TS3 has, and for resort management I went with a 1980s businesswoman.

Long story short, that sim and the pre-built resort I had her running inspired me to try to shoddily adapt that concept into TS2.

So this is a community lot, sorta designed like a tropical hotel/resort, but mostly just for aesthetics as it's not a "real" hotel (ie not zoned as one in-game, so the front desk object does nothing, it's just for decoration). There are 4 beds though, and if you do want to have a longer vacation-type experience on the lot you'd need the Sleep on Community Lots mod to have sims be able to use the beds.

Going along with my resort management inspiration, I tested out having this lot as an owned business, but it was pretty boring because sims would stand around thinking about buying a ticket from the Electrono-Ticket Machine, and once they did they would all go over to the Taste of the Tropics Food Stand and stand around thinking about buying food, and almost all of them would end up leaving the lot before they even bought any food. They literally didn't do anything else lol.

Soooo yeah that didn't work out, it was more fun to play it as a normal unowned community lot - And just pretend that it's owned by the sim I made, I guess.

i saw a prompt on twitter asking for unpopular opinions about the sims franchise. i switch between the sims 3 and the sims 4 when i decide to play one of the games, and i feel like i have more room to talk than someone who hasn't dusted off the former in a decade.

the first is that imo people have rose colored nostalgia glasses on with the hotel management feature that was introduced in island paradise. the challenge is basically clearing a checklist for hiring enough employees, maximally upgrading the "hotel tower" object, buying each kind of buffet table and setting the quality to high, and putting enough gym equipment in the common areas. after that, the place becomes passive income for the most part.

the "hotel tower" is a pre-made object that you can't customize with the create-a-style tool, and it comes in three styles – a tapered, miami-esque resort skyscraper, a spanish mission-style villa thing, and a set of coastal american beach town cabanas. each tower object only comes in three swatches, and it's very limiting if building is your thing and you don't just want to buy and renovate one of the existing resort lots in isla paradiso. there's also a weird glitch where there will be trash thrown onto inaccessible parts of the common area buildings (the roof) and you need to use the move objects cheat to clean that up.

another note on that: you can't buy an army of bonehildas in lieu of maintenance staff. so much for cross-pack compatibility.

the second one is that the mixology skill in ts3 is paywalled behind late night, but all the worlds have bars. they aren't real bars, they're generic lot types that have a magic bullet blender-esque contraption and no service. the only thing sims can make at those bars is something called a "quick drink", which looks like diluted tide detergent. every time i open a new ts3 save, i need to manually go into each bar/pub/club/venue lot, and manually replace the smoothie of death object with a functional service bar. same thing with coffee shops and the university life paywall, but ts4 also paywalls coffee shops and espresso art isn't a skill anywhere, so i guess we're even. somewhat.

i love the sims 3 or else i wouldn't revisit it, but you've all forgotten who she really is...

02. My everlasting quest for Mako to look like the most stereotypical manhwa character continues. I have made *slight* progress. TS3's inability to create long, slanted eyes keep fucking me up. 03. A sweet illustration I found that inspired the rain scene. There's literally no other reason for the rain, I just wanted to recreate this one visual with Evako. 04. Bow Bridge in Central Park is a famous spot for lovers, often glimpsed in romantic movies. The 1862 cast iron bridge resembles the bow of an archer, or violinist. 05. Kogarashi is a poetic Japanese word: the first cold wind that signals the coming of winter. It is the name of the Hayashi's luxury hotel empire, which is inspired by Aman Resorts. 06. Zachari Rousseau is a 27 year old principal dancer at Brooklyn Heights Ballet. Trained at the Paris Opéra Ballet School, he is a winning alumnus of the Grand Prix, and quickly ascended the ranks of Brooklyn Heights. Once coveted for his ethereal youth, Rousseau remains popular amongst the ballet's wealthy donors, despite his slowly fading beauty.
