I always find it strange when people lament that Rayla and Callum don't have much in common (implying they're a bad ship) when, to me, they're one of the most realistic portrayal of friends and lovers I've seen across various genres.

They very clearly enjoy each other's company. They have a similar quirky style of gallows humour. They like teasing each other, and they bounce ideas off each other. They fiercely love and care for their friends and family.

I mean, Callum just randomly starts spouting poetry at her, and does Rayla make fun of him or make him feel weird or self-conscious? Nope. She not only knows what he's talking about, she engages with it.

I suppose on the surface they don't have much in common. Callum loves his books and research, and Rayla’s more action orientated, but once you dig deeper, the foundation of their relationship is built on mutual admiration and respect.

And that is what's important. That's what long-lasting relationships are built on.

Your partner may not have the same taste in books or activities as you, but do they still engage with you about your interests? Do they support you indulging in them or spending time doing them? Do they respect you and your differences?

That love and support is what stands the test of time.

Money Troubles ~ Sturniolo Triplets

Summary: You were struggling with money but hadn't told your best friends Nick, Matt and Chris yet, but when your card declines, you know it's time to come clean.

Warnings: possible swearing, platonic pet names, money troubles, fluff

You were at Target with Nick, Matt and Chris, getting some stuff for a car video. The guys persuaded you to join for a video, which you were happy to join in with, but you had just paid your rent, which went up by $50 a month, then your basic necessities and your car.

You were struggling a bit with money, but the guys didn't know. You didn't want them to know. You knew they wouldn't judge, but still felt embarrassed.

So here you were, stood in Target, looking at all the different items. You knew the month was getting to the end so your rent was due and you had just your car fixed, so you just grabbed a drink.

"Kid don't tell me you're just getting a drink, when there are millions of candy options?" Chris asked.

"Dude, leave her alone. If she doesn't want a snack that's fine." Matt interrupted.

"I was just looking." You answered, before a petty argument broke out.

What you were really looking at was the prices.

"These are your favourites, right?" Nick called, holding up a bag of gummies.

You smiled and nodded, taking them from his hands. Once they had everything they wanted, you all went to pay. You let the guys all go first, before paying for your small items.

But that's when it went wrong.

As you put your card in to pay, the machine beeped at you. You felt confused but saw it was declined. Luckily you were on a self-checkout so you didn't have the embarrassment of a worker to tell you, but now you had to search your bag for some cash.

"Hey, you okay?" Matt asked, coming to stand next to you.

"Oh yeah, just looking for some cash." You answered simply.

"I've got some if you need it." He offered.

You didn't answer, but gave a small nod in recognition. But when you saw you didn't have enough cash in your bag, you looked at Matt with a sheepish smile.

"Can I borrow a little bit please? I'll pay you back." You asked.

Matt smiled and nodded, paying for your stuff. You sighed in relief as you walked out the store and to the car, where Nick and Chris were now waiting.

"I'm not one to push, but why did your card decline?" Matt questioned.

You froze, thinking he didn't see that. Many thoughts ran through your head, but as Matt's hand landed on your shoulder gently, you relaxed.

"You haven't got to tell me, or us, but just know we're always here to help, sweetheart." He said softly.

You nodded as you both made it to the car. Matt was about to drive off, when you spoke up.

"Before we go, I've got something I want to talk about." You said.

Nick, Matt and Chris all looked at you, waiting patiently for you to speak. You took a deep breath and came clean.

"I've been struggling with money a lot. My card just declined while buying a fucking bag of gummies and a soda." You admitted.

"My rent got raised, I've just got my car fixed and the crappy job at that store I work in doesn't pay enough." You continued.

"I didn't want to tell you guys cause I was embarrassed." You finished.

"Oh honey, it's okay. We're not going to judge." Nick said, pulling you into a side hug.

"Yeah, kid. We're your best friends, we're going to help you, not hurt you." Chris added.

"Whatever it is, we'll help you, okay petal?" Matt said.

"Thanks guys." You said.

"You're welcome. Now let's go film another wild car video!" Chris shouted.

Maud "Slate" Pie + Mudbriar "Walnut"

Maud "Slate" Pie I've kept Maud mostly the same all over, her pallet and color scheme are already good in my taste. She now has spots to match Pinkie but also as a hint to her special talent, as I wanted it to look like an opened geode. I didn't like that her cutie mark was only just a rock, it didn't say a single thing about her special talent. Now it says a bit more, showing off that she can find true beauty under what others might just see as a rock.

She wears her normal dress, as I didn't see a reason to change it. I've however added a small bracelet, which has different beads, to represent her sisters. As she might not show or say it much but she loves them all dearly.

Mudbriar "Walnut" I've darkened his pallet a little, more so his overall design didn't end up too light or dark. I've given him cloven hooves and a long tail, as I see him from a family of mixed unicorn and earth ponies. His markings are like branches/roots of trees, showing his connection to the trees. Same story for his cutie mark as Maud's, it was too simple for what his special talent is. So I've added a book but it's standing by its opening, as a small hint to tents, as he travels to examine trees, learning about as many as he can and writing it down for others to read.

Mudbriar now wears a travel backpack, which is for his travels. He doesn't wear much else, as he doesn't see the need to.

Gilda "Glory" + "Shady" Limestone Pie

Gilda"Glory" I've darkened her whole pallet and added some markings. As she's a mountain lion + tiger in this AU. Her design hasn't been changed much, I've added some jewelry but not much else.

"Shady"Limestone Pie Limestone's pallet is mostly the same, its his patterns that darken his look. Lime is trans in my AU, as his anger issues were caused by him not feeling whole/as he should be. His cutie mark has been changed to a broken opened geode, with lime-green stone, which resembles a lime.

He has a few pricings and wears a his band's t-shirt, which says ROAD KILL, Gilda also has one but she mostly wears it to his concerts, showing her support.

 Trouble Shoes + Marble "Droplet" Pie

Trouble Shoes I've made Trouble Shoes slightly darker and added a few lighter strips to his mane and tail. He also now has a beard, which to those who don't know him, makes him look even more scary than before. For his cutie mark I wanted something more than just "bad luck". He of course still struggled to find out what he was meant to do, as he thought the clown nose and wig was some cruel joke the world did to him.

As for his clothing, I went with a nice jacket, kept his hat and his weeding ring.

Marble"Droplet"Pie Marble's pallet has mostly stayed the same, only receiving slight changes and the usual markings that come along with my redesigns. Her cutie mark now shows off how well she makes jewelry with the beautiful gems they find in Appleloosa. To me, her cutie mark never told a single thing about what she was to do, it said marble but what else? So now, she's a crystal collector and seller.

The clothing she wears is a simple shawl, her weeding ring, a few earrings, a few flowers from her middle oldest son, a sun anklet to represent her oldest son and a small bat wing hair tie to represent her youngest son.

Gotta say, I've been out as a lesbian for 3 years and nonbinary for a year and a half. And I've noticed something.

Just because someone *always* gets your name and pronous correct, and angrily calls out anyone who forgets, doesn't necessarily mean they support you.

Conversely, just because someone struggles to remember your name and pronouns, or can't wrap their head around gender neutral/neo pronouns at all, doesn't necessarily mean they DON'T support you.

This is applicable to any situation really not just queer shit. Watch what people do, not just what they say, and you will find your friends. Someone might shower you with compliments and have common interests with you, but what happens when you tell them no? Do they get angry when they are corrected? Do they have kind things to say about other people?

My colleagues wouldn't know a gender-neutral pronoun if one hit them in the face with a dictionary, but they make sure I've had a lunch break and get home safely. They have my back if I have a difficult patient. They defend me against other staff members who like to create drama and bitch about people as if they're still in the school playground. If someone has something to say about me being a big ol' queer, they make it known that discrimination has no place in our unit.

My best friend in the whole entire world forgets my name and pronouns every day. When the organisers of her therapy group changed "men and women" to "people" and "he/she" to "they" in order to be more inclusive, there was outcry. Everything from the "it just doesn't sound right" grammar-policing nonsense to the "f*cking special snowflakes are offended by everything". She came down on them like a ton of bricks. She said if the organisers hadn't told them that it was changing, that they wouldn't have noticed. She told them they obviously haven't loved someone outside of the gender binary and they were missing out. She then told them how she had seen me grow and develop since I came out, and how in awe she was of the person I had become. No, she doesn't understand it at all, but why should that mean that she can't be there for me and appreciate how happy I am to be able to be me? Why should that mean, because you lot don't understand it, that someone with the same issues as the rest of the therapy group feels unsafe and unwelcome and doesn't get their issues resolved? As a result, a few of them changed their minds, INCLUDING HER OWN FATHER, and the rest at least shut the hell up about it.

ON THE FLIP SIDE...

A queer person who used my correct name and pronouns delighted in making me walk on eggshells, inventing reasons to be angry with me, convinced me I was a terrible person and even went as far as to try and turn me against my own therapist. They tried to tell me that my therapist only said I was a good person because she was paid to, and that because they themselves had a psychology degree that they could tell I had all these complexes and needed to work hard to be a good person, and it was unlikely I'd never get there. (I chose to listen to my therapist and stop being friends with this person).

A queer person who used my correct name and pronouns continued to do things that made me uncomfortable when I asked them to stop. Never said in as many words "you're not allowed to hang out with your friends" but conveniently had an emergency every time I had plans, and accused me of being uncaring if I needed my own space. They knew I had difficulty asking for help, but still got angry with me when I asked because I didn't ask "soon enough".

A queer person who used my correct name and pronouns told me they would look after me and they didnt. .

A queer person threatened to misgender me MORE when I corrected them.

I'm just saying, that if you choose to yeet everyone who doesn't get your name and pronouns right... that doesn't necessarily make you safe. We live in a very binary world. As much as we want that to change, it won't if we ignore or shout at the bits we don't like. (Believe me, I've tried).
