Chapter: 0.5
Word count: 3k
Synopsis: A girl from the 12th century accidentally falls through a portal and finds herself in 21st century Arcadia.
A/n: A chapter for a fanfic I'm possibly gonna make when I'm finished with 9th grade Ladybug, if the fandom is still alive.
~~~
You in- and exhale, closing your eyes. You were sitting on the hard wooden floor, holding your arms stretched out infront of you. On the floor before you was a spell circle, written with chalk.
"Eaptia epe obaprrr sef tmemlo"
The words escape your lips, they were almost burned into your brain. Your body gets a light white glow, objects around begin to float.
Morgana had given you the book to practice, as she herself was busy. Magic was forbidden in the kingdom. Morgana's use of it was only allowed, because she was the sister of king Arthur.
You slightly open one your eyes, peeking from behind your eyelid. Before you was a blue warpgate, where the spell circle used to be.
"Yes!" You cheer, you had been practicing that spell for a month. But your celebration was cut short by tugging at your dress. You grip the fabrics, trying to hold it back. Thing pulling on it was the warp gate, slowly pulling everything towards it.
In a blink of an eye, you get pulled in and fell through. Your (h/c) hair wave past your face as your body decends through...the sky? You could reach fast enough to land on your arms and legs, your body hits a field of grass.
You push your self up onto your knees, rubbing your sore arms. Your eyes scan the surrounding area, instead of your cozy home, you were met with a town filled with things you didn't regonise.
You stumbles into your feet, brushes the dust off your dress. You wander off the patch of grass and onto a big path of stone, above it was hanging a machine with colored lights. You wondered with green light mean, did it mean you could walk over.
Not even looking both ways, you walk across. You were able to get a glimpse of something heading your way, before it hit you. The next moment your vision went black.
{3rd pov}
The drive instructor's mouth falls open as the car stops, he had watched a teen hit the front of the car and falls onto the road.
"Oh no...Does this mean I failed?" The boy who was taking his exam asks, gripping the wheel tightly.
"Maybe I should fail you for being a worried about failing and not the person you just hit" The instructor scolds the teenage boy. He gets out of the car, checking on the unconscious girl. "She is just knocked out with a bruise, now your exam is to drive to the hospital".
(Your pov)
My eyes flicker open, being met very a very bright room. After I adjust to the brightness, I notice I was laying in a metal bed with white sheets. ‘Where am…’ suddenly the image of that machine entered my mind, reminding me what happened before I blacked out.
The door opens, grabbing my attention. Turn my gaze over to see a kind looking woman enter the room, holding a plank of wood with paper attached. She wrote something down on it, before looking at me. “You’re awake, that’s good. How are you feeling?” She asks.
I read the piece of paper on her coat ‘Dr. Lake’. “A bit light headed and sore, but I’m alright. Thank you, doctor Lake” I answer with a small smile.
“We weren’t able to find any ID on you. Can you tell me please your name?” Doctor Lake asks me, gripping the cillinder thing in her hand.
‘What is ID, does she mean idea?’ I think to myself. “(Y/n) (L/n)” I respond to her question.
{3rd pov}
Barbara writes down the girl’s name. Noting in her head that the girl’s attire seemed a bit odd, perhaps she does theatre. The ginger haired woman leaves the room and enters her office. She writes (L/n) in the hospital search form, surprised to see no results. Then she looked the girl’s name on a regular search engine, blank aswell. It made her question what was going on, so she returned to the hospital room.
She was met with (Y/n) sitting patiently in the bed, her left hand on the other. She was staring out the window, seeming to be looking at the sky. Barbara clears her throat, making (Y/n) turn to her. “I wasn’t able to find any files about you. Do you have your parents’ number?"
(Y/n) pauses, things rolling around in her mind. She didn't believe she was in a different country, or atleast a country that was close to England. The doctor spoke the same language as her, just with a different accent. She must've been brought to the future because of the time warp gate, most likely atleast a hundred years.
"I... don't remember, I only remember my name" She lied, it was beter than trying to explains that came through a portal.
'Did the blow of the car give her Amnesia?' Barbara theorizes, writing it down on her clipboard. "I'm going to organize something, I'll be back" She walks out of the door once again.
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
For the time being, (Y/n) was placed in a program to reside with a family. The hospital hoped that she would recover her memory or that they were able to find anything about her.
{Your pov}
I stand infront of the house I was told to go. Doctor Lake had told me I was going to live with the Nuñez family, Mrs. Nuñez being a council woman of Arcadia. I was just hoping that they were friendly.
Slowly reaching towards the front door, I knock onto the door. I watch as the door opens, revealing a woman with short dark brown hair and brown eyes. She greets me with a smile "You must be (Y/n), come in".
Doing as she requested, I walk in. I hear her close the door behind me, as I turn my gaze around the home. It felt sleek and more one whole than I am used to.
I look over to see a baby jumping up and down in round swing looking thing. Walking over to them, I crouch down to get to their level. I couldn't help but chuckle when I see the baby reaching their chubby hands towards me. I had to stop myself from kissing his cute little face.
"That is my son Enrique, he is only a few months old" Mrs Nuñez introduces the small baby boy, walking to the kitchen. "My daughter and husband are at school and work right now, they should be back soon. You can find your bedroom, it is the white door. You came earlier than I was expecting"
I couldn't help but be curious on how my room would look like. I snuck upstairs, stopping at the white door. It was right to a purple door, which I assume belongs to the daughter.
Opening the door, I was met with an almost empty room. There was a bed with white sheets, an empty closet and a desk. I take a seat, it was quite comfortable. My fingers trace across the wrinkles of the sheets.
I could hear down below the door opening. "Mom, I'm home!" A voice calls out. The person and Mrs. Nuñez talk about something, but I wasn't able to understand clearly what they were saying. Not long after that, someone came walking upstairs. The person gently knocks on my room.
I open it, peeking out of it. Standing there was a teen girl, with dark brown hair with a dark blue streak in it. There were different colored accessories in her hair, reminding me of a rainbow. She was wearing a dark purple jacket, a lighter purple sweater with a skull on it. Under it she wore a skirt, with leggings under it.
"My mom didn't tell me someone was going to stay with us. My name is Claire, by the way. You must be (Y/n)" The girl introduces herself, holding out her hand for me to shake.
"That's me" I push the door further open, grabbing her hand and gently shaking it. "I hope you don't mind me having around. You already have your parents here and your little brother""Not really, I would be nice having another person around my age here" Her eyes lowers, inspecting my outfit. "Is that a twelfth century dress?"
I pause, realising I have to come up with an excuse. "Well...um, I don't remember a lot. But I think I liked theatre, maybe I was in a play" I like through my teeth, fiddling with my loose sleeve.
Claire's face lights up at the mention of it, she leaned in closer to me. "I love theatre! What is your favorite? Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet..." She trails off when she was my confused expression. "Right, you don't remember much. I got a little over-excited"
"It's nothing, I also get pretty overjoyed when hearing one of my interests. If don't mind asking, what time period are we in currently?" I question the girl.
"It's 2016, why do you ask?" Claire's expression becomes worried, her eyebrows furrow. "Are you feeling alright? You look pretty pale"
'Nine-hundred years...I am that far into the the future?' My head begins to feel light as I feel the shock. I feel myself falling back, until my head hit the floor.
After that embarrassing accident. Me, Clair and Mrs. Nuñez had gone to shopping to get clothes appropriate to this century. It was getting used to wearing softer and lighter fabrics, it felt easier to move.
[Keeping it vague on purpose]
I was inrolled into school, Arcadia Oak High. I stroll over the sidewalk, a bag slung across over my shoulder. Claire walked next to me, talking about a book she had read. From what I've seen, she was pretty responsible, even with all the pressure her mother puts her on.
I noticed two girls standing not that far away from us, seeming to be waiting for us. One had medium black hair, while the other had brown curly hair. "Hey C-bomb" The girl with curly hair's eyes shift to me "Who this? She seems new"
"(Y/n), pleasure" I chime, holding my hands togheter. They seemed a bit confused, was I too formal?"
"She is staying with me for a bit, I hope you don't mind her hanging around us" Claire mentions, breaking the akward tension.
"Not at all, I am Mary by the way" The black haired girl pulls out a 'phone'. Mr Nuñez had given me one not to long ago. I don't fully understand what it does, a feature was it could call upon a person from a far distance.
Mary pushes the phone in my face, on it were images of food and herself. "Can I get your Instagram? So I can add you" She asks.
My eyebrows furrow. "Insta...gram?" I mumble, trying to figure out what she was talking about. Perhaps it was the thing on her phone, it was something that formated images in a certain way.
Noticing that the confused gases has return, I clear my throat. "I just got a phone for the first time, I'm not really familiar with that" I explain myself.
"No way!" Mary slings her arm around my shoulder, pulling me along towards school. "During break, I am going to teach everything you need to know about the internet. You have a lot to catch up on"
"I think she is going fit right in" I hear the other girl say to Claire behind me, I hope she's right.
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
While the girls had head to class, I had to go to the 'principle's office'. He was a nice man, he was throwing around slang I don't even think he understands. He gave me directions on where my first class way, along with s sheet with all my classes. Luckily I was in the same class as Claire, Mary and Darci (who's name I learned), first class was history by Mr. Strickler.
I stand before the classroom door, waiting for the right moment. I calm my nerves, knocking on the door. I hear a calm voice respond "Come in", my cue.
Pushing the door open, I was met with an older man and a bunch of teens staring at me. It felt a bit akward, It isn't a usual thing to have that many eyes on me.
"Introduce yourself, they don't bite" Mr. Strickler jokes, snapping me out of my train of thoughts. His remark made me relax more.
I walk over, standing before the class. I noticed Claire sitting near the front, who gives me a small wave. I smile, waving back. I look up, ready to talk. "My name is (Y/n), it's nice to meet you all" I greet, keeping the smile on my face.
"Now that wasn't too hard, was it?" Mr. Stricker chimes in. "Since you seem already acquainted with Ms. Nuñez, you can take a seat next to her" He instructs.
I nod, sitting down at the desk next to Claire. It went a lot easier than I was expecting, let's hope the rest of high school will be this easy. My lips purse as I feel a pair of eyes at me, but I ignore the feeling.
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
Toby and Jim walk out of the classroom as the lesson had wrapped up. Toby was talking Jim's ears off about a game he began playing.
They walk outside, heading towards their lockers. Jim spots the new girl talking to the principal, he couldn't help but eavesdrop.
"Can't Ms. Nuñez show you around?" The principal questions the (h/c)nette.
"She is busy with practice, it's really important to her" (Y/n) answers, fiddling with her fingers. She didn't remember exactly what the girl was practicing for, she thought it was a play.
It seemed like Toby was listening aswell. He jabs his best friend in the side, whispering "Dude, I have the greatest idea right now. If you give her a tour, you get good in Claire's book"
Jim scratches the back of his head. "I don't know, Toby. Isn't it a little shallow to just use her to get close to Claire?" He asks the shorter teen.
Toby didn't seem to listen. He grabs Jim by the arm, dragging him along. "We'll do it, principal" He says, raising his hand.
Turning towards the two students, a pleasant expression appears on the principal's face. "Ah, Domzalski, Lake. I'll be leaving her in your hands, don't get her in trouble" The old man laughs, before walking off.
(Y/n) looks at the two students, smiling innocently. She had to make sure to not accidentally reveal something she shouldn't, the fact that she was from a whole 'nother century or her magic.
'This is going to be a piece of cake' Toby thinks confidently, crossing his arms.
'Lord, have mercy on me' Jim tries his best to not palm his own face off.
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
"English, Math, Biology, Spanish, History, P.E and lunch is my favorite" Toby jokes, getting a chuckle out of (Y/n). "Never forget to do your Spanish homework, or you'll be facing the wrath of Mr. Uhl"
(Y/n) looks over to the blue eyes boy, who seemed to be in deep thought. She wondered what could be going through his mind. "Do you anything to tell me about this school?" She spoke, snapping him out of it.
"Um, well...Mr. Strickler is pretty cool, I guess" Jim mutters. He didn't have much time to think of something to say. He was too busy wondering what was so off about the new girl, she seemed pretty normal. He squints his eyes as he notices something, he swore a spark in her in her eye.
"Do I have something on my face?" (Y/n) tilts her head, seeing that he was staring a little too long.
Jim shakes his head. "Nothing, it's nothing" He answers, just pushing away the thought.
The two boys notice (Y/n) looks at something. Follow her gaze, they see Steve doing his usual locker stuffing. They were thinking of walking away, but (Y/n) had other plans. Toby tried to grab by the sleeve, but was too late.
Steve was busy taunting Eli, then he feels someone tapping his shoulder. He turns and looks down, seeing (Y/n) infront of him. "What is it, Newbie? Can't you see I'm busy"
Poking his head out of the locker was Eli, his eyes widening at the sight of her. "I saw you before! You were falling from l-like the sky. Like an alien or a-an angel!" He points at her.
Steve bashes his elbow against the locker, making Eli hold his tongue. "Shut it, Pepperjack" Steve threatens the nerd. Then he leans forward, a smirk on his face "Now that I look at you, you look pretty cu–"
"Hey, Steve. New hair you got there? I gotta borrow her for a second" Toby akwardly smiles, pulling (Y/n) back. "The second most important thing is that you don't mess with Steve"
Letting put an annoyed huff, crossing her arms. "I am sorry, but I just really hate bullies" she chews her bottom lip, it already was a bit damaged.
"(Y/n), if you don't mind me asking. Are you perhaps from England" Jim asks her, seeming to grow suspicious of the girl.
"Why do you ask that?"
"Your accent"
(Y/n) tenses up, realising that she is possibly cornered. She had hoped that they wouldn't notice it. Telling him the lie she told Doctor Lake could be questioned once she accidentally do or say something suspicious. But saying she was, would contradict her lie.
She let out a relieved sigh as the bell rings. When she needed it most, the bell saved her. She gives the two boys a quick wave, before walking off.
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
Her (e/c) eyes stare at the ceiling as she later in her bed, her arms stretched out besides her. She turns her head, looking at the corkboard hanging on the wall. In the middle of it was a sticky note with drawing of a book. Red yarn connected it with other sticky notes, one of it was a sticky note with a drawing of the school. It was crossed out with red marker.
"Where is it..?"
CHAPTER ONE
Tumblr media
- Angor - The trolless called out as she entered the cave she and her husband inhabited. Their previous cave had been raided by Gunmar's evil forces and the whole village had to flee and wander to find a new place to live. Away from the wars so that the children could grow up in peace, so that the parents did not have to worry about whether their children would return home, or whether the older trolls would be thrown out of the house and beaten to death by Gummies who were looking for a moment's fun.
The woman's voice was strained and the slight breaking of her voice was audible to her husband. Nothing could be hidden from him he knew her too well however he did not avert his golden eyes from the preparations for the expedition - This is a bad idea - She interjected again the blue troll looked worriedly at her beloved sensing that his plan would not work out. She had always believed in her husband but now she doubted his idea undermining his authority as leader of the fallen village of Rot, some of the village managed to escape but some were not so lucky
Those who managed to escape followed the marriage worried, the little trolls cried and the mothers tried to soothe them the men tried to soothe the stressed women. However, the way towards the safe haven was long and hard and for this reason some trolls died on the way from exhaustion their loved ones were also tired, but they stubbornly went on - This is a very bad idea Angora - The woman pleaded the further her husband did not pay attention to her
Finally long light blue claws touched her husband's stony grey skin wrapping her hands around his biceps - Please listen to me - The woman almost begged him to listen to him walker for a moment, she did not trust the sorceress she wants to go to Rot.
- I cannot defend the village of Anoana - He finally spoke up seeing her beautiful green eyes in full view, she was not now wearing her familiar headband which has a tassel on the front covering her eyes and the back of her nose however the distinctive two black claws painted from the eye to the corner of her mouth were on her cheeks - This will help me gain more strength - He confessed facing his wife
Her eyes expressed great worry and concern at the same time exhaustion caused by the trek that had stopped two days ago. They were three days ahead of Gunmar's army, but nobody knew when they would find them again and kill everyone Angor did not want to let this happen again, he had to protect the people at all costs.
He could even give up his birthstone, his soul to protect his village, his people. He could give his life for the Anoana he loved in all worlds.
The light blue troll's lips parted slightly as she raised her hand to touch her husband's cheek, who almost immediately snuggled into her palm squinting and a quiet cat-like murmur issued from his throat - How am I supposed to defend my village when I can't even protect you? - He whispered opening his eyes to encounter cuts and bruises on her body most of the wounds were on her hands and arms, when those in need were helped to get up and walk on. She had a cut on her cheek from Gumm Gumm who attacked her when she tried to help a small troll escape from the village.
He let her out of his sight for a moment and when he heard her shrill scream he froze almost immediately, when he saw Gunmar's servant standing over her and aiming his sword at her wanting to kill her in one blow or inflict as much pain as he could before she would die, he raised his stone hand and ran his finger under the cut being careful not to inflict pain on her. He was worried too, but he did what he thought was right
- The expedition won't take more than two days, we'll still have a day's head start on Gunmar before he finds us - He whispered and his eyes jumped from the cuts on her body to her green eyes
She clenched her jaw tighter looking at him almost appraisingly - Why don't you let me swim with you? - She whispered, coming closer to him - Let me help you - she whispered even more quietly than before raising her other hand to take both stone hands on his cheeks she had to stand on tiptoe to reach, Anoana and Angor were similar in stature they were almost humanoid, their bodies were similar to human bodies more than other trolls they were tall and slim but Rot was taller than his wife.
She barely reached his shoulder however this did not stop them from indulging in affection every day, Anoana gently tilted her head to get a better look at him from a different angle, she wanted to know the answer to her question. She could see Angor's thoughts churning as he thought of an answer that would satisfy her, he sighed heavily through his nose - It's dangerous you know that - He whispered, the woman's hands clasped tighter on his cheeks, he knew she did not accept his words at that moment - Someone must take care of the serfs while I am away - he added after a while hoping that his wife would loosen the grip on his cheeks
- In that case, don't go," she persisted, not wanting to let him go, sensing that something bad would happen. She would be angry with herself if something happened to him she could even say that she would never forgive herself for not being beside him when he gets hurt and vice versa - Stay. Angora please - Anoana still begged him hoping that he would change her husband's mind but she knew him too well and for too long she knew that he was stubborn and wanted to do well, but the black nightmare was standing over her trying to warn her of the danger that was just waiting for her attention Angora
- It will be alright, love - he whispered lifting her chin gently to press his nose to her forehead - Before you know it I will be back with magic and we can live without fear of Gunmar finding us and killing us - he whispered into her forehead, she closed her eyes feeling his nose pressed against her forehead before she had time to respond or enjoy the touch that was meant to reassure her he moved away tucking the last things into the pouch in his belt.
- If I do not return in two days, find a market and stay there with our people - whispered Angor standing at the exit, he was worried about his wife, he could not imagine how she was worried about him but he would not like his nightmare to come true, if Gunmar attacked again he would not have enough strength to fight back. He would not want his wife to die in agony as well as his subjects, he was worried about everyone - It is safe in the market place, please go there with our subjects - he added after a while
- As soon as you are in the market place I will be waiting for us there - He confessed without giving her room for argument or any other words she looked at the ground when he said this without being brave enough to look at her worried green eyes. When he finally got the courage to look at her one last time she said nothing just watched him walk away.
As he looked ahead, as he walked through the middle of the temporary encampment his people had set up he could feel their gaze on him as they looked at him in awe of his courage and sacrifice, no one else would ever dare to look for Morgana. No one would ever dare to ask Morgane for the power she possessed.
As Angor passed through the camp every Troll when they saw the leader bowed gently but this time everyone knelt on one knee lowering their heads low in homage to him and silently conveying their gratitude that he was trying to help them even at the risk of his own life. Even if his wife does not like it and is forced to watch the stature of her beloved disappear somewhere over the horizon.
- I didn't believe you would let him go - A voice beside Anoana spoke up and footsteps approaching her made her realise that her best friend stood beside her as she stared dully at the horizon behind which Angor had disappeared, she didn't even know when the sun was slowly setting - How are you feeling? - Asked quietly Idun gently stroking her friend's shoulder looking with worried eyes as Anoana started to look around realising that she had been standing in one position for hours and was still looking at the path that Angor had followed
- Hopeless - Anoana wheezed, turning her head towards Idun she was young she had dark purple skin and her long black hair was tied in a high step that filled the space between her horns which curled at the ends in spirals. Idun stood out from the other girls, she wore dresses that had cuts on her thighs and on her shoulders she constantly wore a belt in which she had various vials of healing potions and poisons pinned. The time of war has caused the young troll to carry vials with her every time she will be able to defend herself however they are usually hidden in a pouch clipped to her belt. On her back was often a bow, which now lay safely in her temporary shelter but still close enough to the weapon to reach for it as quickly as possible during an attack.
Indun had violet eyes of exceptional beauty, however, she was personally ashamed of them, as it was rare for a troll to be born with violet eyes - I don't know how to feel - Mumbled the older woman after a while, Anoana was older than Indun by at least a hundred years but the two women were friends and were inseparable sometimes Angor claimed that Anoana adopted Indun, as the younger troll was more willing to be in the company of his wife than his own parents.
This made Angor feel jealous at times, however, he would not admit to wanting his wife's attention so much and not wanting to share it. It's not that he didn't like Indun hell he liked this kid he taught her how to hunt and cook good food optionally weaving in teachings on how to be a good leader and how to be a good troll. Anoana and Angor acted as parents in Indun's life without even knowing it the young troll suffered when they weren't there, the purple troll's parents weren't the best or the worst she herself didn't know at what level to define them as they didn't give her the attention the young troll needed
They were not interested in what she was doing all day long
They were not interested in what new things she learned from the village chief
Her parents lived their own lives and all she could do was feel like a fifth wheel but Angor and Anoana effectively made her find the light in her life again and every day she stood with new hope that Angor taught her something new and maybe Anoana would take her with her to look for ingredients for potions or they would learn new spells together.
- Do you think she will get what she wants? - asked Indun quietly, worrying about the older troll as much as Anoana who looked again at the horizon of trees behind which Angor had disappeared. The trolls had a problem with sunlight because as soon as the sun's rays fell on their stony skin it painfully burned their skin turning them into real stone taking away the colour of life that had previously shone in their eyes, which would later turn into grey and emotionless stone - Is Morgana even alive? Does she exist? - asked the younger troll, stopping from foot to foot
- They say that Morgana fell into the ocean because of King Arthur, there is no chance that she will survive - muttered Indun, looking at the trees, in whose shade they would hide to protect themselves from the world and the sunlight. Anoana shook her head - Don't believe these rumours sun - confessed quietly Anoana turning her body towards the younger troll putting her hand on her shoulder for Indun to turn towards her - You see, before Gunmar attacked our village we fished a man out of the sea - recalled the older woman correcting the belt that was wrapped around the younger troll's shoulder - We said a prayer for the man to survive and the goddesses of this world would make her still alive –
- Did they succeed? Did they bring her back to life? - Indun interjected by tilting her head tightly clenching her jaw. Anoana merely smiled and shook her head
- 'It was the decision of the goddesses we have not been able to see if they restored the soul of the woman from the sea,' Anoana confessed quietly, she lifted her hand from the younger troll's shoulder and embraced her cheek stroking the stony skin beneath her eye - 'But we believe that the woman found renewed peace in the world of the living or perhaps she only now knew peace in the world of the dead,' whispered the older troll, she leaned over to press her forehead against the younger troll's forehead - 'And you believe it,' she whispered closing her eyes
Indun looked for a moment at Anoana who presses her blue forehead against hers, the younger troll followed Anoana's lead and also closed her eyes - Of course - whispered the younger troll, after a few seconds they moved away from each other - So now you are in a leadership role? - asked the teenage troll curiously - You mean I can be your right hand? - Indun raised an eyebrow and Anoana dryly giggled while shaking her head
- 'You're too young to be my right hand,' the older trolless giggled as she headed towards the other subordinates Indun took one last look towards the forest sighing heavily at Angor's departure from the village, the young troll hoped that Rot would find what he needed and that the legend of Morgana would not be a mere fairy tale to keep the spirit of the children to believe that there was still magic. The young troll turned on its heel and with long and quick steps tried to catch up with Anoane without having to run up but failed.
- So what is the plan? - asked Indun as she followed the older woman, looking under her feet to avoid falling over tree roots
Anoana only sighed heavily - He instructed us to go to the market place - she confessed quietly - That is reasonable. He said that by the time we get there, he will be waiting for us there - with that the time leader muttered - It makes sense, it will take us two days to get to the market and he will have time to get the magic from Morgana and come back - Anoana shrugged her shoulders wanting to believe what he was saying but stress and uncertainty coursed through her veins as she thought about it more intensely
Indun followed Anoana seeing her shoulders tense and her back as she artificially straightened up pretending to be calm and everything was going according to plan however Indun knew that Angor's wife was worried about him and the expedition he had not taken her on with him. The younger troll watched as the blue trolless moved by the villagers ordering them to get ready to go to the market again, Indun only watched as Anoana began to rule this temporarily over the people of the fallen village of Rot.
The younger troll swallowed hard and went off on her own to pack up her belongings left over from Gunmar's raid on the village of Rot, it is not that Indun did not want to comfort Anoana or see that the older troll needed it, but she began to think that her words would be unnecessary and Anoana would not accept help anyway to calm her thoughts and satisfy the storm that was coursing through her veins.
𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: headcannons pertaining your growing relationship with the trollhunter.
𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: jim lake jr x fem!reader
Tumblr media
When you met Jim, it was a normal day of school.
At least, for you it was.
For Jim, he had just been approached by two giant stone creatures telling him that he’s now their protector, and then he was attacked by an evil troll who totally kicked his ass.
But you couldn’t have known that, so it was just a normal school day.
You’d always known he existed, having gone to school with him since Kindergarten.
But you’d never been friends, that was for sure.
A few days before you had signed up to be a history tutor, needing some school approved service hours.
And just your luck, you had a session scheduled with Jim Lake Jr.
He was jittery, that was the first thing you realized. His eyes couldn’t stay focused on one thing for longer than two seconds, always jumping to the window.
You had been reaching for your pencil case, which was in your bag under the table. That was when you noticed his bruised up arms. Frozen in place, you also saw a large gash peeking out from his pant leg, just visible on his ankle.
It wasn’t your place to say anything, you knew. You barely knew Jim! But still… was he is trouble?
The thought distracted you, causing you to hit the back of your head on the underside of the table.
Wincing, you raised your head, spying Jim giving you a concerned look. You found yourself giving him a similar, more extreme stare.
“So… I think we were on the Ottoman Empire in class, right?”
You didn’t answer. You didn’t think you could, not without asking. It became too much after an awkward second, and you blurted out the question. “Jim, did somebody hurt you?”
The way his face lost its color sent a shiver down your spine.
He laughed a laugh that was clearly forced—strangled even. “What makes you ask that?”
“Jim… Look at you. You’re all scratched up.”
A thick silence follows your tentative declaration.
“Oh yeah,” he chuckled. “I, uhm, I tried to ride my bike down the side of the canal. It didn’t go so well, as you can see.”
It was a good excuse, you thought, but did you believe it? Not for a second. It took you only a few moments before your eyes narrowed and you scooted your chair closer to his.
Jim thought you looked murderous the longer he was locked in contact with your eyes.
“Was it Steve Palchuk? ‘Cause if it was we need to say something. This is beyond bullying, Jim.”
What was he supposed to say? Oh, nah, don’t worry, Y/N. I was just beaten to near death by a stone giant last night. No biggy.
She’d walk him to an asylum herself.
Apparently, Jim took too long to respond, which to you was an response enough. You scoffed to yourself, shoving back in your seat with crossed arms. “I cannot believe that bitch. He won’t get away with this.”
Jim just fiddled with his pencil, eyes on his textbook. He didn’t know much about Y/N L/N, but he knew she was a force to be reckoned with. Ever since elementary school she’d taken charge in city clean ups, protested in cities as far as D.C., made speeches that changed the minds of Arcadia’s city council and their school board.
When she was mad about something, everyone knew, and she wouldn’t be placated till there was a change.
Jim had to hide his smirk behind his palm; he could just imagine Steve receiving the flame that the girl beside him would unleash.
He had to ask, “What’re you gonna do?”
Your answer was instantaneous. “Talk to him, I think. I know him well enough, us being cousins and all.”
That was a shock for sure.
A day later, Jim was walking into school when he heard the tell tale sound of your voice. He turned the corner, stopping short at the sight before him.
You, at least a head shorter than Steve, had the poor guy gripped by the ear and pulled down to your height. Jim didn’t stick around to listen to what you were saying, seeing the fury all over your face and not wanting either of you to spy him loitering there.
But Jim had to admit, the look of terror on Steve’s face was hilarious.
After that, your tutoring sessions became more and more natural over time. The conversation drifted away from history and toward other things like interests and fun stories.
Not only that, but the time drew on longer till it wasn’t so much a tutoring session as much as it was just two friends hanging out.
It didn’t take long for Jim to realize he enjoyed spending time with you much more than he wanted to.
Much more than he wanted to.
He thinks he realized how much he actually liked you around a few months before everything went to shit.
Jim offered to walk you home when the session dragged on so long that the moon had risen into the sky.
“You don’t live too far from me, I don’t mind.”
It was as they neared your driveway that he caught sight of Blinky from the corner of his eye, shooting fear straight to his heart.
The many-eyed troll was rustling in the bushes, tailing him and you. You were oblivious, going on about the pranks you had planned for the upcoming April Fools Day.
Jim wanted to be listening to you, mostly so he could avoid your schemes, but also because he enjoyed the lightheartedness with which you spoke. It was a nice change from the woe he heard whenever he entered Trollmarket. But he couldn’t give you the focus he wanted with Blinky just seven feet form being spotted.
“Welp,” you sighed. “This is where we part.”
Disappointment was on both of your minds as you smiled at each other.
He managed to hold it together when, after a moment of hesitation, you lurched forward to wrap him in a hug. Surprised, he glanced up over your shoulder to see Blinky giving him four thumbs ups.
He used one arm to hug you back, and the other to flip the troll off.
Being the Trollhunter was dangerous for not only Jim and everyone involved. And as the two of you started to hang out without the pretense of you being his tutor, he swore to himself that you would never find out his secret.
But as you grew closer, it became increasingly difficult to hide anything from you.
You always found his new injuries and scrapes and even once somehow detected his bruised ribs. After a while, you became suspicious, no longer assuming your cousin was behind it.
You didn’t want to assume anything severe, but you had to worry about his home life.
You knew his mother—you’d met Dr. Lake when you ended up sitting together to watch Jim in Romeo and Juliet—and you didn’t get the feeling she would ever get… physical with him. The very thought made you shudder.
If not that, then what was it? Jim didn’t seem the street fighter type. It caused you more worry than you’d like to admit.
Over the past few months of knowing Jim Lake Jr., you think you’d be comfortable calling him your best friend. You two spent nearly everyday talking, whether it was between class or on the phone every once in a while.
And it was obvious to everyone except to you that there was chemistry.
It caused Toby some anguish to say the least.
Speaking of which, you’d grown closer with Jim’s best friend too, something you hadn’t expected.
Toby was a good friend to you, always taking time out of his day to ask about yours, questioning your every “It was fine” and demanding to know what was so “fine” about it. In return, he offered his own tales of misery, getting a laugh out of you nearly every time.
You didn’t notice how he physically grimaced whenever you brushed off his attempts at finding out what you thought about ol’ Jimbo.
Moving on from all of that, to you, things were going great! Your grades could be better, but you had better friends than you’d ever had before. Added to your ranks was Claire Nuñez, and over time… well, you had to admit that you were suspicious.
Jim’s crush on Claire had been ever so obvious ever since the fourth grade, but that wasn’t it (Or rather, you hoped that wasn’t it).
No matter how much you told yourself you were paranoid, you thought the three of them were hiding something.
It hurt to say the least. You were friends… right? Did friends keep secrets?
This was what you thought as you sat alone during lunch, contemplating the way Jim, Toby, and Claire made some poor excuse about having to go to a chess club meeting.
You knew they weren’t a part of the chess club. You were president of the chess club. How did they not know that? Were they that bad at lying? Or did they not care if you knew how much they actually hated you?
You were overthinking. They didn’t hate you. Jim certainly didn’t, you think. He was so kind and caring and thoughtful… your cheeks burned red at the thoughts running across your mind… you shook your head, reasoning that there must be an explanation that didn’t involve thier secret vendetta against you.
You just had to find out what it was.
But as they abandoned you more and more for their secret escapades, and as they ditched you to work on group projects alone, and they generally lied time and time again… you grew tired of the confusion.
Your cousin was starting to warm up to you, something about his brutish personality shifting over the course of that school year. He noticed first how you sat alone at lunch, and then he looked around at his table full of kids… and realized he too was alone—in a mental sense, that is.
So he picked up his tray and bag and trudged over to your table in the corner of the lunchroom.
The look of shock on your face didn’t fade away till he was sitting there across from you, and you deduced that he probably wasn’t here to tease you.
The conversation was slow at first, even dull, just small talk, but then he caught sight of the comic book tucked under your lunch tray.
He hesitated, knowing his friends at the other table had made fun of him for liking those sort of things… but you had never done that before. Steve could trust you... probably.
So he asks you about it, and you go into a long winded explanation of it, only for him to interrupt with, “I know what it is… I’ve got the entire set back home.”
You blinked, shocked, and you thought that maybe your cousin Steve wasn’t so terrible after all.
Your friends wanted to ditch you? Fine. You’d make yourself useful and stop being their deadweight. It was somewhat freeing, no matter how much it pained you to sweep past Jim’s sweet smile and ready sandwich (made just how you like it). But it was for the best. You couldn’t stand the way they treated you.
It was only a month after you severed ties with them that you realized how much they’d impacted you.
You no longer found Nougat Nummies that Toby had put in your backpack. You could no longer ask Claire for help with studying. You couldn’t waltz into Jim’s house like you owned the place, hop up onto his counter, and spiel on and on about whatever was on your mind while Jim cooked food around the kitchen.
You might’ve missed that last one more than the other memories.
You might’ve missed Jim more than the others.
And you might’ve liked him a bit too much too.
On Jim’s side, he knew why you’d grown distant. It pained him to keep such a big secret from you, especially when he could see it was hurting you, but what else could he do? Tell you he’s the Trollhunter?
No. Jim would never do that to you. If you knew, then they would find you. You’d wind up hurt. It was bad enough he’d dragged Claire into all this, but you? Jim couldn’t stand the thought of you getting hurt.
He didn’t think about how much not having you in his life would hurt.
Maybe a month goes by, and the two of you get back to a steady rhythm without the other. Unbeknownst to you, your old friends were preparing for war.
How could you know? How could you have prepared? Simple. You couldn’t have.
So that’s why, the night of the school dance, instead of going to that stupid party just to stand alone in the corner, you decided you would be getting your answers.
What spurred this sudden quest? You didn’t know. But you needed to know what you did wrong. What had you done to drive Jim away?
So that’s how you ended up on his doorstep at just the wrong moment.
Before you knocked on the door, you heard crashing and shouting from inside.
Your heart raced. Were you right about Jim being hurt at home. You decided to raise your voice. “Jim?! Jim, are you in there!”
Inside, Jim heard your yells, and a pang of fear swelled up in him.
He stood in armor of glowing silver beside his high school principal, who looked nothing like the lanky man everyone knew him as, yet appeared as a green skinned creature with jagged wings. A changeling.
And across from him was an ancient entity, with eyes blank and voidish, and a smirk that sent shivers down the boys spine. Angor Rot.
The fight had gone still at the sound of your pounding fist against the door. Jim didn’t like the sadistic gleam in Angor’s dark eyes.
“Jim! Open this door! Are you all right?!”
No. No. No. No. No. No. No.
This couldn’t be happening. He’d tried so hard to keep safe, to keep you away from all of this!
He should’ve known better; you weren’t so easily shoved off, and you never knew when to quit.
Angor swept to greet you with Jim hot on his tail, swinging his sword wildly.
He was too late.
A long story short, you were way in over your head with this one.
Being the hostage of a centuries old… thing was so not on your bucket list. Yet, here you were, shaking as Angor Rot held a dagger to your neck. His entire being stenched of age, and you had to hold in your gagging lest it push you forth into the blade.
You didn’t know what to do. You didn’t knwo what was happening. But you knew Jim was there. He was right there, wearing his armor from Romeo and Juliet and wielding the same prop sword that didn’t look so prop-like now.
He was right there, and he was looking at you, and you were looking at him, and you were both terrified.
“Jim,” you whispered, scared that even the slight word would force your skin forth and the knife would slit her neck. “Jim, what’s going on?”
Angor chuckled darkly as he peered down at you. “Ah, that’s right. You have no idea what your friend has been doing in the shadows.”
Your gaze was directed at Jim, your jaw shaky and your eyes wide with confusion. “What–?”
“So, Trollhunter,” Angor seethed. “Shall we risk your flower’s life today?”
You hadn’t been killed, fortunately. It all happened so fast, and all you really remembered was Jim fighting that thing, the changeling happening to be your principal, Dr. Lake in mortal danger, and an underground city of stone creatures.
The same underground city you now sat in, the boy of the hour right beside you. Neither of you had said a word since everything calmed down. It was driving you mad.
You raised your eyes to see Dr. Lake standing nearby, safe now that the battle with Angor was over. Then you swiveled to face Jim, your face screwed up.
“Jim… who are you?”
He didn’t have much of a choice. You’d seen all you’d seen, hurt and fought alongside him despite never lifting a weapon against anyone in all your life. You deserved the truth.
“I’m the Trollhunter.”
It took nearly an hour for him to explain everything, and when it was all said and done, your jaw was hanging open. You now sat on the step below him, looking up at the boy you now knew was so terribly brave. Everything he’d gone through… it nearly made you forgive him.
You’d known Jim Lake Jr. as one thing for months and months, and now it seemed he was something entirely different.
He wasn’t a scared kid who needed you to defend him to your ex-jerk of a cousin. He was strong and held himself with a certain dignity and humility that you envied. Yeah, he was awkward and foolish at times—foolish like when he ditched you just to keep you safe, which you supposed was understandable given that night’s events—but you liked him anyway.
You really liked him, despite all the pain and confusion and this fast turn of events.
He hadn’t changed, you realized as you just stared up at him whilst he awaited what you would say.
He was Jim, the boy you could have called your best friend had anyone asked, and the boy you had slowly harbored a crush on.
It was this thought process that made you lock eyes with him. You didn’t like secrets, and you hated lying. You sucked in a breath and put everything out in the open for him to see.
“I like you, Jim.” The words were harder than you thought. “You don’t have to like me too, I just needed to say it. I want to be your friend no matter what, and I guess I can understand why you’d keep this from me. I just… I need you to know you can trust me.”
There. There it was. A confession, an offer, a pledge. It was everything you needed to say.
And as you forced yourself to keep looking at Jim, you saw his eyes flutter and his jaw hang a bit. You felt slightly nauseous as your words came back to your memory. Had you said something you shouldn’t have?
“You like me?”
It was your time to blink blankly. That was all he got from that? You cracked a grin, not knowing where this was going. “Yeah. I really like you.”
He couldn’t believe it. He thought surely you would hate him, or at the very least never want to see his face again. But you liked him? Even after all that? After all the lies?
You liked him back?
Jim smiled, hand reaching for yours, itching to grab your hand, only for him to pull back at the awkward last second.
You tilted your head, wondering just what you were getting yourself into as you took his hand and gripped it tight.
Trollmarket was in shambles all around. Jim’s mother’s memory was wiped. His principal was a changeling. Enrique was in the Darklands. But you were there, and you were on his side.
Still, he had secrets to keep. Secrets from you, Toby, Claire, Blinky. Everyone.
So as he dropped your hand with a subtle drop to his smile, he thought back to all that had happened, all that had been lost, and all that could be lost in the future.
“I like you too,” said Jim. You didn’t notice how his eyes filled with pain as he excused himself to deal with some Trollhunter business.
You didn’t realize that might’ve been the last time you saw him as he turned away and walked off in a hurry.
How could you have known? You were new to this. You had no clue about the bridge or Enrique or Jim’s promise to Claire.
So when you saw Claire and Toby run by with panicked expressions, you were quick to rush after them. You had no clue what was going on, but you’d always been quick on the uptake.
Jim was going someplace he should not be going alone. He was leaving them all behind to go there. He was going to the Darklands.
You had just gotten him back, and now, he was ditching you again.
Sure, it was meant to be heroic, but you just wanted your best friend to stick around for a little while.
Weeks go by, and you assist in Claire and Toby’s search for a way to save Jim. Eventually you help to free him, somehow managing to survive a short traipse through the Darklands.
It was safe to say you weren’t letting Jim get too out of sight for a time after that, and he wasn’t going to complain.
He never kept anything from you again, admitting it was torture to keep lying to you and keep you at a distance.
Jim often felt so out of touch with the rest of the world, being stuck in the middle of human and troll lives, and it was easy for him to disassociate and just brush everyone off. It was days like those that Jim was glad he had you.
“Jim?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
You’d only sigh, catching the way he kept zoning out, getting lost in his own head. In your opinion, he’d been through too much to be only sixteen. So you took his hand or drew him in for a hug or just slung an arm around him--any of the like would do.
Instantly, his nerves would calm and his attention drawn back to the present.
“You don’t have to be fine, you know.”
He hadn’t known that, not really. Not until he met you.
Those all around you two would notice a distinct change in Jim’s demeanor, so subtle yet so clear. He was somehow softer, which Toby hadn’t thought possible, and the light in his eyes began to spark up again.
His mother was especially grateful, loving the life you brought back into Jim. Blinky adored your very nature. Draal tolerated your eagerness to train with him. Vendel mused your every demanding question.
It wasn’t long before Jim got nervous; you were now one more person he couldn’t stand losing.
But you never let his thoughts run too wild, somehow always one step ahead of his overthinking, ready to put out every doubt and every fear.
“Hey, listen. You’re stuck with me, Lake. Nothing, especially not Bular or Gunmar or any other creep, is ever going to keep me from getting back to you.”
He wasn’t sure how to express just how much you meant to him, so he settled for a watery grin. “Back at you.”
I love you was just a breath away from being spoken into reality, but neither you nor Jim were eager to shove it out there. The fact was there whether it was spoken or not, and the both fo you were well aware of its presence.
"Jim!"
She ran down the paths of Trollmarket, worried for the aftermath. "Jim stop!" All she knew is that she could not lose the one person who truly cared for her. "Were not gonna make it!" Toby yelled as he ran as well. Claire furrowed her eyebrows with a frown. "We are!" She yelled back. Blinky was also running.
They all ran towards the door where the Killahead bridge was stored. "Master Jim!" Blinky pleaded. On the other side the Trollhunter, Jim ran up to the switch, clicking it as the rest of his team had already caught up to him. The doors began to close, cutting Nevada, Claire, Toby, and Blinky off.
"Dude, what are you doing?" Toby asked as he stopped infront of the closing door. "Jim, don't!" Claire pleaded. "Jim, please. I need you!" Nevada cried as she banged her fist on the stone door. Tears in her eyes. Her curly hair moved due to the force. Getting in her face but she didn't care. She has more important things to attend to.
"Jim, stop!" Claire cried, Jim disappearing behind the doors. "Jim, no! You promised we'd go together!" Nevada said angrily, her other fist pounded against the door as Jim leaned on the other side, voice breaking. "The amulet chose me." He looked down at the other amulet in his hand. "I can't lose any more of you." He pushed himself away from the door, running to the bridge.
Nevada pounded and kicked against the door as Blinky inspected it. Soon Toby and Claire joined in the pounding. "Maybe I can manually override the lock." As Blinky attempted, Jim raised the amulet, the device floating and twisting until it locked itself into the bridge. It shot out a blue stream of light, the bridge magically builds itself as blue lightning shoots from the amulet, causing Jim to shield his face.
He groans and looks up from behind his arms. "Whoa." Jim breathed out, now standing in front of a complete bridge, the portal finally open. "Come on, Jimbo! We're a team! Don't do this!" Toby cried through the door. "I'm sorry! I have to finish the fight. Alone." He began to step to the portal, Kanjigar's words clouding his mind.
"But the amulet chose me." He looked down, readying himself right as the doors began to open. Nevada, Blinky, Claire, and Toby came charging in, hoping to stop him. "Jim!" Claire yelled. "Im sorry." Jim added before he let his body fall through the portal, Claire's voice still reaching him.
"No! Jim!" Nevada ran to the portal but got stopped by Blinky. He held her in fear that she would jump and tried to get him back. "Jim." She whispered in dread. "Jim!" Toby yelled. "Master Jim, what have you done?" Blinky asked, holding a horrified Nevada.
In the Darklands, Jim stepped to a cliffside, peering down at the vast world in front of him, a vortex formed farthest away. He donned the Eclipse blade, letting it circle in his hand. Jim slid the sword against his back and clenched his teeth. "Get ready, Gunmar." From Jim's determined face, it changed to Nevada's horrified face.
She had Just watched her step-brother fall into his death. From her horrified face, it changed into the amulet which its arms were spinning rapidly.
Y/n sighed as she submerged her body into the tub, the hot water now kissing her neck. The wrinkles on her skin gave away the hours she had spent on the soapy water. The bathroom had turned into a warm, quiet refuge from the babies running around in the Lake’s house. The screaming, the noisy toys, the spit, the dirty diapers. It all had become too much for the wizard to handle. The only moments of peace she could find were when she would put her head under the water. The world disappearing for an instant, the only noise she could hear was the calming lullaby of her blood pumping under the boiling water.
The tiles vibrated loud enough to make the babies napping in Jim’s room to scream in desperation. Y/n sat up, water spilling out of the tub as she prepared herself to throw the culprit across the room only to look down at Toby’s smiling face on her phone looking back at her. The bubbling anger died down to be taken over by another type of annoyance, the one where you are the only one to blame.
Toby had been texting and calling all day and Y/n had been avoiding his texts and calls all day. She didn’t have a good explanation, she just wanted to be left alone. Since Jim left she hasn’t been able to be alone, not even while peeing ever since the babies learnt to walk. Always working, hanging out or taking care of someone.
Y/n groaned, submerging herself into the water. The tub was the only place where she could be, but from her water tumb she heard someone knocking at the door. She emerged, her shoulders already falling forward.
“Y/n? Honey?” Barbara called.
“Yes, mom?”
“You should check your phone”
Y/n’s hand trembled as she opened the door to the bookstore. Toby said that the world may be ending yet again, but that wasn’t her biggest worry. Merlin had been awakened for more than a few days and Y/n didn’t say a word to Douxie. She blamed herself. Why did she always listen to her father?
She breathed in and out trying to leave her fears out on the street.
“And Steve Palchuk, Creepslayer!”
“I have no idea who you are” books flew around the once well kept bookstore, Merlin sorted them out before packing them in a flying chest “but we’re desperate. Thankfully, we have the brute”
Y/n stood behind Douxie and whispered in his ear:
“Oh, he is in a good mood”
Douxie smiled, turning back:
“Hello, darling”
“Hi” she smiled back.
Douxie grabbed her hand and for a moment, they ignored what was happening around them, both lost in eachother’s eyes, in eachother’s warmth. “Aah!” Steve’s yelp pulled Y/n out of the enchantment.
“Careful!” Y/n called out the older wizard and the chest flying behind him for their recklessness“ Are you okay?” She ran to the blonde teenager, using the hand that held Douxie to hold Steve’s head.
“Yes” he sniffed.
“Y/n! That’s great! Now we have the brute and a master wizard” Merlin didn’t turn to greet his daughter.
“Good to see you too” she said sarcastically “What’s going on?” She looked around looking for the messy black haired boy “Where’s Jim?”
“Yeah, where’s Claire?” Toby joined the chorus “I thought they were with you”
“Answers forthcoming. Make preparations. We’ve a journey ahead” Merlin kept packing “and don’t…”
“But, master…” Douxie interrupted.
“ ‘But, master’ me” Merlin finished.
“Are you sure you want to count on these children? They’re clearly not ready for this” Douxie asked.
“Excuse me, college dude, these children fought off a fifty foot extraterrestrial” Steve accidentally punched the head off the enchanted armor.
“Oh, that’s why you kept calling me?” Y/n turned to Toby, guilt creeping up her throat.
“Don’t worry. We…” Toby turned to help Steve fight off the enchanted armor “Dude, let’s go off his head”
“Douxie is right, father” Y/n quickly followed Merlin and Douxie away from the teenagers “They already fought enough things. Kids shouldn’t be fighting. They can’t keep doing this”
“Master, I’m ready for this” Douxie pitched himself full of confidence.
“Doubtful” Merlin said, focused on packing.
Y/n sighed:
“Just hear him out…”
“Silence!” Merlin commanded.
Y/n mouth stayed open, her smile falling into a frown, the words still weighing on her tongue. The familiar warmth of anger quickly ran through her body.
“I mean, silence” Merlin repeated softer “all of you” turning to the fighting teenagers “Can you not hear that?”
The group shook their heads. After the battle, Arcadia was destroyed, again, so the strange sounds could be anything, a car finally exploding or a building giving up. What wasn’t normal was the power going out. Y/n turned her head to the window, in the darkness the only thing she could see was the reflection of the chimney’s fire. She twisted her wrist revealing her staff.
“Something wicked this way comes” Merlin walked to the window followed by Douxie.
Something hit against the glass activating the barrier. Douxie took a step back covering his eyes.
“Shadow mephits?” Merlin turned to his apprentice “Hisirdoux, did you lead them here?”
“No, no!” Douxie waved his hands around, appalled that his master would think that.
Y/n pinched her nose. She felt like she had seen this scene many times before.
“I mean, I don’t think so?” Douxie looked out the window once more.
“Yes, we did” Archie walked up to confirm their mistake.
Douxie nervously chuckled under his master’s incredulous gaze.
“The barrier won’t hold for long” Merlin turned back “We must make egress! Tobias, take my things” with a movement of his arm, Toby went flying on top of the chest through the stairs.
Before Merlin could keep giving directions, the shadow memphits broke down the barrier, entering the bookstore.
“All of you, to the roof!” Merlin screamed, killing one of the creatures with his magic.
Y/n ran behind her friends to the roof only to find the roof as full shadow memphits as the bookstore.
“Why is the roof full of shadow memphits?” Y/n heard Al’s voice. The girl turned and saw the cat biting one of the creatures’ tales.
“Al!” Y/n ran, picking him up before the creatures could return the favor.
“That tasted awful” he shook his head.
“Stand back!” Merlin alerted.
“Everyone on” Before she could turn to look, Aaarrrgghh threw her onto a ship.
“I would like a warning next time” Al left Y/n’s arms.
“Maybe when we aren’t under attack” Y/n stood up pointing her staff to the shadow memphits Aaarrrgghh had on his back, destroying them in a ray of crimson so Steve and Toby could help the troll get into the ship.
As she lowered her staff she saw Douxie grabbing the baranda, distracted by something in the ground.
“Are you okay?” She walked up to him, softly grabbing his elbow.
He didn’t turn back, his mind absorbed by what the blue light of the barrier was reflecting.
“Doux…” Y/n called looking down, finally seeing what paralyzed Douxie: a knight surrounded by dark magic Y/n couldn’t understand.
The knight looked back at Douxie, his empty eyes focused only on the wizard. Douxie shivered when he returned the look. The knight appeared soulless, there seemed to be no emotion behind the visor.
The shadow memphits started to crawl into the mystery knight’s body like they were returning to its home making Y/n shiver. That wasn’t natural.
“Boy…” the dark voice echoed in the wizard's minds.
Y/n’s nails dig into Douxie’s bicep, both frozen in place looking back at the knight while his voice poisoned their insides with fear.
“Look out!” Merlin pulled them down by their jackets before the knight’s spears could reach them.
Y/n stood up, looking back at her father with a frown, not out of anger but out of confusion, she doesn’t remember the knight attacking them.
“Are you alright, love?” Douxie grabbed Y/n’s cheek with both hands and examined every inch of her face.
“Of course” she smiled, shaking the confusion away “Are you?” She grabbed one of his wrists, pulling his hand away to lay in his chest.
“I’m alright” he pulled her closer.
Y/n closed her eyes letting the movement of the ship and the familiar warmth of Douxie wash the adrenaline of the battle out of her sistem.
“What the heck is that?!” Steve screamed.
“Welcome, young squires to Camelot” Merlin announced.
Y/n quickly opened her eyes up, slightly pulling away from Douxie. In front of them, flying in the middle of the night sky stood the old castle that she once called home. A nostalgia ridden sigh escaped out of her lips. The castle was frozen in time, everything looked the same except a big green stone under it but that still didn’t change the strange feeling of coming back home after a long journey that invaded her.
“Camelot? As in ancient-old-people-times Camelot?” Toby screamed.
“Let the old people jokes begin” Y/n turned to Douxie, laughing.
The boy chuckled but his eyes were still glossy with the nostalgia of their childhood home, he was still lost in the emotion of coming back.
Y/n smiled, laying her head against his shoulder letting herself too be lost in what used to be.
“Sir Galahad, how look the skies?” Merlin screamed to the old man keeping watch in one of the towers.
“All quiet, my old friend!” The knight reported back.
Y/n turned to look at Sir Galahad waving back. She messily laughed, euphoria cursing through her veins when she saw he hadn’t changed one bit.
“Keep your eyes on the horizon” Merlin ordered before starting his parking maneuver.
“Oh, lord” Y/n gripped the baranda as she felt the instability in the velocity.
“I say, coming in a little hot, don’t you think?” Archie suggested as he grabbed himself from dear life.
“Rubbish!” Complained Merlin.
“He’s going to kill us all!” Al screamed as the green light slowed down the ship.
“Whoo hoo hoo hoo!” Steve screamed as he walked the entrance of the castle.
“Woah!” Toby echoed.
“It’s been nine hundred years since I was last here” Douxie said more to himself, turning around observing the unchanged castle.
“It hasn’t changed a bit” Y/n looked around searching for a small vase out of place but not finding it.
“Well except for the flying part” Douxie added.
“Nine hundred years?” Steve chuckled “Yeah right. You’re like 19?”
Y/n and Douxie shared a look, with a smile reminding all the adventures they had in the last century.
“Give or take a few centuries” Archie explained before flying away.
“Wait, don’t leave me here!” Al quickly followed.
“So, how many things can your cats turn into?” Steve asked, following the cats’ flying pattern with his head.
“That depends. How many things are there?” Douxie answered.
“Uh, cool floating castle ship, but what’s the grave danger you keep talking about? Toby ran after Merlin before he could disappear in the endless hallways.
“Ah, there you are” Merlin opened his arms, welcoming his old guests.
“Claire!” Toby screamed.
“Toby!” The girl ran to his friend’s arms.
Y/n ran to the other side of the room, waiting to see her brother only to find Claire and an injured Blinky. She kept her smile, hiding her disappointment in her back pocket as the four of them hugged.
“I’m glad you’re okay” Y/n hugged Claire.
“Whoa, hey, Steve’s here too! How about…How about some love for Steve?”
“Oh. Hi, Steve” Claire pulled away from Y/n, her face devoid of feelings.
“What happened? Where’s Jim?” Y/n frowned, she had waited enough time.
“Follow me” Merlin sighed, walking deeper into the castle.
Y/n turned to Claire trying to look for clues into her face but the devastated look on the young wizard was as terrifying as the broken sigh in her father’s mouth.
She walked through the hallways of the castle with her heart in her palms as she has done many times before. How is she going to look at her mother in the eyes now?
“Jim” Toby ran to the table where Jim laid, kneeling by his side.
Y/n walked slowly, she couldn’t believe what her eyes were seeing: her little brother laying inside a crystal with a spear in his heart.
“What happened?” Y/n asked her voice sharp as the bottom of her staff.
“We were ambushed. Some ancient, dark warrior. An unstoppable knight clad in green who struck down Master Jim” Blinky recounted.
But Y/n didn’t care, the hot tears brewing in her heart didn’t care. All she could hear was: they didn’t do enough.
“Master, is that the same knight we saw at the bookstore?” Douxie's voice appeared through the cloud of anger.
“One and the same. That onyx shard is working its way towards his heart. I placed the boy in stasis, stalling its progress…for now”
‘I didn’t see it’ Y/n mind replays that moment again and again. How can she blame them when she probably couldn’t stop him either?
The anger softens and migrates to her neck, tying itself around her neck pulling tight becoming sadness, guilt.
“If I had my shadow staff, I could’ve saved him” Claire cried.
Y/n wishes she could say that that’s not true but she’s afraid that everyone can see what’s hanging around her neck.
“Who is this green knight? How do I get my hands on him?” Toby’s anger starts to spill out.
“I do not know” Merlin confesses “The green knight said but one name, which chilled me to the bone: Morgana”
Y/n frowned. This definitely wasn’t one of her tricks. At least, it didn’t look like one.
“I hate that lady” Toby said, the memories of the Eternal Night coming back to him “Wait” he looked back at the older wizard “I thought we kicked her bee witch butt to the Shadow Realm”
“Which he appeared not to know” Merlin frowned, still puzzled by the encounter with the mysterious knight.
“So this is not Morgana’s work” Y/n question, certain in her heart of the answer.
Merlin shook his head:
“I cannot confirm his alliances but he wore the emblem of Camelot”
Douxie turned to Y/n, eyes full of confusion and worry.
“Come with me, quickly” Merlin turned, walking away, leading the group across a bridge to his studio “I fear the answer lies in the past. A dark menace is coming, one even I cannot face alone”
The room, as the rest of the castle, was the same as it was a century ago. Y/n could feel the ghost of her long skirt hitting her ankles and the knot in her throat everytime she would enter her father's workspace.
“You are all now soldiers in a war started centuries ago for the world of magic” Merlin opened a small white box, from inside it a blue sphere of light appeared revealing images of the past “Once, the realms of Magic and Man clashed in endless bloodshed” Merlin twirled the circle showing them an image of the late King “King Arthur sought to wipe out magic that ravaged the lands in his was against Gunmar. I brought what few spellcasters I could under my protection to spare them from the sword…”
“Including myself” Explained Douxie.
“And Morgana le Fay” added Y/n when Morgana’s image appeared in the magic circle.
“She was the finest student I ever taught” Merlin observed the memory of young Morgana, his eyes full of proudness, he thought she was destined for great things “…until she tried to kill me” he closed his eyes “Thankfully, in my all-seeing wisdom, I created a secret weapon” he touch the sphere “the Trollhunter amulet. The war came to a standstill and I imprisoned Morgana at the Battle of Killahead Bridge. This Green Knight that assailed us was clearly born of dark magic but I have no memory of him nor what connection he could have to Morgana”
Y/n looked back at the image of his sister, Guinevere’s words stitched to her heart “you can love the person you knew” and that’s what she’s been doing every day, carrying daisies to an imaginary grave, remembering the woman who would free the trolls from the traps, the woman who would sneak her extra dessert but she knew what she saw, what she felt. That Knight is not Morgana’s work
“I really don’t think he had a connection…” Y/n wasn’t able to finish.
“You never do, Y/n. You are not impartial” Merlin cut her off.
“I know what I saw. That magic is not Morgana’s!” Y/n hit the table.
Merlin opened his mouth to protest but the warning bells cut him off.
Before they could turn to see what danger was looking for them, the castle was hit, shaking the entire structure.
“What’s happening?” Claire screamed in fear.
“Have you never been under attack before?” Merlin helped Y/n to get up from the ground “To the battlements!”
Y/n ran, her staff in hand ready to confront whatever was trying to destroy Camelot like she had done many times before. What she didn’t expect was the amount of power their enemy seemed to have. ‘The Arcane Order’ her father called it. She considered herself an experienced wizard and she had only heard that name one time when she was very young and her father made it clear she wasn’t supposed to ask anymore questions.
“Everyone get to safety now!” Merlin ordered as soon as he saw the wizards emerge from the gigantic ship that was trying to board the castle.
The wizard with ice powers attacked first, quickly overpowering Merlin, throwing him into the ground and his staff off the castle.
“I got it” Archie flew behind.
Y/n was impressed. She didn’t have another word for it. She had never seen such ability, especially in wizards that seemed as young as her
Soon enough, cannons were fired making it impossible for anyone to stand.
“We must flee” Merlin ordered.
“I’m on it” Douxie ran to steer the ship away from The Arcane Order.
The castle shook once more, Merlin and Y/n turned, seeing their new obstacle: a bridge made of ice joining the ships.
“They’re boarding us!” Merlin screamed.
“I’m on it” Y/n jumped into the edge of the tower “Go get the staff”
“Steer us clear at my command!” Merlin jumped to another tower.
Y/n pointed her staff to the thick ice that joined the ships, a hot lightning melting the middle of the bridge. She frowned, she felt sweat dripping from her forehead, melting a simple block of a was being harder than it should be. She pulled back, falling backwards into the cold stone of the castle. While the ice wizard built multiple bridges, their ally was bombing the castle shaking the old structure.
Y/n stood back up, nodded her head, her eyes focused on this time, severing the connection between the ships. She tightened the grip on her staff and swung, a big ball of red lightning cut all the communications the ship had.
“Yeah!” Y/n screamed, jumping around alone celebrating her victory. Her short victory.
The wind changed. The wizard heard the crackling of the ice murmuring behind her, she slowly turned around, afraid to confirm her suspicion: all the broken bridges were made new again and were crawling with shadow memphits.
“You’ve got to be kidding me” Y/n climbed to Douxie’s post.
“Archie, find the staff or we are all dead meat!” Douxie screamed fighting off shadow memphits off the steers.
“What do you people think I’m doing?” Archie screamed back from the sky.
The castle shook once more, making Y/n’ stomach turn.
“I officially hate flying” she joked, eyes lost in the horizon.
“We’ll travel by boat. Old style” Douxie nodded.
“Flying castles suck!” Steve screamed
Y/n turned, they were joined by Steve wearing a helmet and Claire.
“Hisirdoux, now!” Merlin screamed.
“Please don’t blow us up” Douxie prayed as he set up the time map and steered the ship “Please don’t blow us up!”
“We don’t have enough power for the jump!” Archie flew close.
“Trust in Merlin” Screamed Douxie.
Archie was wrong. The time rift was opened but the Arcane Order wasn’t about to let them leave so easily. Y/n didn’t see them hit the castle, she just knew she was lucky enough to grab Douxie's hand before falling to the night sky, until she saw his brother fall through the time rift, then, she didn’t feel so lucky.
She looked up at Douxie knowing what she had to do but before she could apologize he nodded. He knew well what Y/n wanted to do and he supported it. They let go of each other's hands at the same time.
Y/n fell as she heard Claire and Steve’s terrified screams but she couldn’t be scared, not when her eyes were focused on Douxie.
Just Do It | Jim Lake Jr.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Warning(s): kissing?
I wanted to write something for Jim, I’m not the best writer but I can barely find anything for him here. Love you <3
“Jim, just ask her! You’re pretty much soulmates as it is, it was bound to happen!” Tony whisper-yelled as he, Jim, Amelia and Claire walked to Jim’s house after training with Blinky and Arggghhh at Troll Market. Sure, it was hilarious watching his best friend stare with heart eyes while Amelia swung her sword at him, winning either way because Jim just couldn’t stay focused, but he had to do something about it.
“No! We talked about this, I’m okay with being friends.” Jim whispered back, but just saying the word friends seemed to physically hurt him.
It’s been some time since it all started, since they found the amulets, since they beat Bular, and especially since Blinky explained to Jim and Amelia that they were the Trollhunter and Trollhuntress, destined to fight and stay together through everything the world would throw at them.
But even knowing that, the two never acted on their feelings. They have protected each other in battle, they stuck together through thick and thin, yet just the thought of saying ‘I like you’ could make the both of them turn red.
“Oh come on, just admit it. You’re in love with her and want her to be your girlfriend. It’s not that big of a deal, you guys are the definition of meant to be!” Toby gave his friend a small smile and a nudge, giggling when Jim’s eyes widened and he checked if Claire and Amelia heard anything.
Fortunately for him, the girls were deep in their own conversation, though Amelia still gave him a small smile when she noticed his gaze on her. Jim returned the sweet gesture before looking back to his best friend, hoping she didn’t take notice of his reddening cheeks, oblivious to the fact that she was doing the exact same thing.
The group walked up to Jim’s house, waiting patiently for him to open the door before walking in. “Hey Jim, you still got Claire’s guacamole from Wednesday?” Amelia asked as they all put down their bags by the stairs. “I was thinking, maybe we could eat it with a bag of nachos.”
“Yeah, sure! You guys stay here, I’ll bring it out in a minute.” Jim said with a smile, walking towards the kitchen while Claire and Toby walked over to the living room and sat down to talk.
“I’ll come help!” Amelia exclaimed with a grin, following him into the kitchen.
“Thanks.” Jim smiled as he grabbed the plastic container with the guacamole, putting it on the counter and opening it.
Amelia opened the snack cabinet and grabbed the bag of nachos, leaving it on the counter next to the guacamole. She took out two large bowls from the lower cabinet and set them on the counter. Jim started scooping out the guacamole into one of the bowls with a wooden spoon while Amelia opened the bag of nachos and poured them into the other bowl. The two worked around the kitchen quietly and in synch, all the fighting together seemed to make them practically harmonic when it came to working together. They knew what the other was going to do without having to say a word.
They allowed a comfortable silence to take over until Jim put the container in the sink and Amelia finally decided to ask the question that was on her mind.
“So…what were you and Toby talking about on the way here?” She asked, making Jim freeze before taking a deep breath and turning around to look at her.
Maybe I should just tell her?
Toby said It’s not that big of a deal. Anyway, who knows? She might even say yes.
Yeah…nope.
“Oh, It’s nothing, Toby just kept insisting about me doing this thing that I don’t really want to do.” Jim shrugged, giving her a small smile.
That’s good, now we’ll just take out the snacks and nothing will happen, there is no need to panic.
“Really? What is it that you don’t want to do? you seemed pretty nervous just talking about it.” Amelia questioned with a small tilt of her head. So subtle yet so endearing to the boy in front of her. “Maybe I can help?”
Why does she have to be such a good person?
“Oh, i don’t really think you could help with this,” He said, before his eyes widened as he realized how bad that must sound. “I mean, it’s just…this thing I don’t want to do kind of includes you.” He confessed, moving around her to lean against the counter with his back to it, and she followed his movements so that now they were standing side to side, Jim gripping the wooden counter nervously as he thought of what to say.
“It does?” Amelia’s eyebrows furrowed. “How come?”
“Well, you see.” He once again took in a deep breath before exhaling and turning on his side so he could look at her properly. Seeing this, she turned as well, looking up at him and waiting for his explanation, and Jim knew that he couldn’t give an excuse, not this time.
He wanted, no, he needed to tell her. “I have these…feelings, and they’re really strong, like, I just can’t ignore them. And Toby thinks I should tell you about them because…” Amelia nodded encouragingly and he closed his eyes, scared to see her reaction.
Just spit it out.
“Because those feelings are for you.”
There were a few seconds of silence, before he felt her hand grab his, and he hesitantly allowed her to intertwine their fingers. “Jim?” Amelia said, and of course, he just had to open his eyes to look at her. The way she looked at him made him feel as if his heart was going to jump out of his chest. She just had that effect on him. “If this means what I think it does,” He gave a small nod of confirmation. “Then I like you too.”
“You-you do?” He asked, making the smile on her face widen as she nodded. “You do! You like me! You actually like me“ He announced, letting go of her hand in order to wrap his arms around her and twirl her around. “This is-this is amazing!”
“Jim! Put me down!” Amelia laughed happily as she wrapped her hands around his neck so she wouldn’t fall, though she knew he wouldn’t let that happen.
“Right, right.” Jim quickly put let her down, but neither of them let go of the other. “It’s just, this is, I could just-!” He looked into Amelia eyes, and gave her a small smile as one of his moved upwards and cupped her cheek. “Can I kiss you?” Jim said in a voice that was barely more than whisper. He needed confirmation that this was real, that he wasn’t dreaming and was about to wake up to the sound of his alarm clock. He needed some sort of a pinch, and he needed it from her.
Amelia smiled and nodded, leaning forward as Jim did the same, meeting in the middle. It was better than he could’ve ever imagined, the feeling of her soft lips pressing against his, one hand on her waist and the other holding her cheek while both of hers conjoined on the back of his neck.
I’m not dreaming.
“Will you be my girlfriend?” Jim whispered quietly after he pulled away from the kiss, not daring to move too far, just in case.
“I’d love to be your girlfriend, Jim.” Amelia said with with a smile, and pecked him on the lips.
“Yes!” Toby yelled.
“Finally!” Claire cheered, pumping a fist in the air.
Jim and Amelia quickly turned around to see their best friends’ heads poking from the kitchen door. Toby and Claire walked over to them, each grabbing a bowl from the counter. “Took you guys long enough.” Claire gave her friend a small nudge, giggling when she saw her blush.
“Now come on, we’re going to watch Tangled.” Toby called out as he walked out of the kitchen and towards the living room, giving Jim a wink on his way.
“We chose it while you got the snacks.” Claire said as she walked out, allowing the two to have a few moments to themselves before joining them.
“Well, I do love Tangled.” Amelia grinned, taking Jim’s hand in hers.
“Probably because of Flynn Rider.” He said with a smile as they walked to the living room.
“His name is Eugene.” Amelia and Claire retorted in unison just as the now couple sat down, making Jim chuckle.
Trollhunters x fem reader
Chapter 1
Word count: 2.7K
Synopsis: Girl from 12th century tries to fit in but finds herself faced with someone from the past.
~~~~~~~
(Y/n) walks the halls of Camelot, following behind Morgana. As a cover to hide the fact that the king's sister was teaching a girl magic, (Y/n) became her hand maid.
She notices something in the corner of her eye. Turning her head towards it, she sees it was Hisirdoux, who was walking after Merlin. He was already looking at her, smiling once he notices her looking back. In his hands were a stack of books, most likely belonging to Merlin.
The (h/c) haired girl sends him a closed eyes smile. Hisirdoux seemed too distracted as he crashes into one of the empty suits of armor. He falls onto his butt, books scattered on the ground. Merlin had heard the commotion and turns around, letting out a sigh at the scene.
(Y/n) couldn't help but chuckle, finding his actions adorable. Her and Morgana walk off to Morgana's room to practice magic.
Hisirdoux lets out a heartfelt sigh as his eyes softend, he watched as the girl and her mentor walk out of sight. He was zoning out Merlin's scolding, still laying on the ground.

"So tell me, how you sleeping easy. Why you a–"
I let out an puff of air as I slam my hand down on my alarm. Opening my eyes, I was met with the usual empty ceiling.
It's been a week or two since I was enrolled into Arcadia Oak High. No sign of my spellbook, I hope it didn't get destroyed. I tried to replicate the spell, but nothing works.
The worst thing is my mind taunting me with memories from before I fell through. I miss Hisirdoux, I miss Morgana and I only miss Merlin a little, he was a jerk.
I have been trying to adjust to the 21st century, it's a bit of a challenge. I must say that pens are so amazing, way beter than quills. You don't have to dip it in ink every second and use it with a single click of a button.
Currently I am sitting in class, history from Mr. Strickler. I sit next to Claire like always. I blankly at the computer screen as I listen to Mr Strickler explain the Peloponnesian War.
Feeling someone's eyes bore into me, I turn my head to see who it was. It was Jim, who seemed love-struck. I assume he was staring at Claire, considering he would usually short circuit around her.
Mr. Strickler seem to notice aswell. He walks to stand on the boy's side, who was too distracted to notice him. "Jim! Would you agree? With Herodotus' opinion on his tactics of war, as I've described"
"Absolutely!" Jim sheepishly grins, hoping that he could get away with his bluff.
"Excellent. Which tactics, specifically?" Mr. Strickler questions him, raising his eyebrows. He plays around with the pen in his hand.
"The, uh... winning ones?" The student akwardly answers. The class erupts in laughter by his response.
(Y/n) lets out a snort from his haijinks. Claire jabs her in side, "Don't pester him" She says with a smile. "He was staring, Claire" (Y/n) defends herself.
The bell rings a moment after. The two gather their stuff and walk out. The two chat to eachother, from an upcoming play to homework. "Jim, stares a lot at you" (Y/n) mentions, gripping the strap of her bag.
"He is just dozing off, have you seen the eyebags under his eyes?" Claire asks the (h/c)nette, pulling at the skin under her eyes.
"I think he likes you. You are very pretty" (Y/n) chuckles, getting another jab from the girl.
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
Time for good old PE.
(Y/n) sits on the bleachers, wearing the P.E uniform. She watches as Mary climbed up the rope. Two ropes beside her was Toby, struggling to climb up, even with Jim cheering him on.
Her (e/c) eyes trail over to Steve trying to impress with something he wrote on a piece of paper. But Claire just brushes him off and walks over to where (Y/n) was sitting.
After that, Darcy joins them, sitting next to Claire. "Aren't you supposed to be climbing the rope?" Darcy questions the benched teen. "I didn't see you climbing it either" (Y/n) shoots back with a grin.
"Buenos noches" A voice greets. The three girls turn to see Jim standing infront of them, looking somewhat nervous.
Claire raises her eyebrows "You speak Spanish?"
Darcy stands up, crossing her arms. "Come on Claire" She walks off, grabbing (Y/n)'s arm on the way, dragging her along. The teen witch was just able to hear Claire suggest the school play to Jim, there were more boys needed for the play.
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊
(Y/n) walks through the town, towards home. She had to walk alone, Claire was auditioning for Juliet. She perks when she hears soft bell ringing, she looks around to see nothing.
Suddenly a ball of light with wings appears before her. It hovers infront of her face, making the same bell sound. Without warning, it speeds off. "Wait, hold on!" (Y/n) yells, chasing after it.
She runs through an alleyway and over the sidewalk. She wondered how such a small thing could be so fast. She notices two figures standing on the road, sitting on bikes. Then the creature dissapears from sight, confusing (Y/n).
She approaches the two figures, regonising them as Jim and Tobey. They seem to be staring at something, getting (Y/n)'s curiousity. Jim glances at her, before looking back in the same direction. She walks closer, turning to what they were looking at.
A troll.
Not just any troll, the son of Gunmar: Bular. Even after all those years, Trolls were around. His glowing yellow-red eyes shift over to her, glaring at her smaller form.
"(Y/n), get on" Jim instructs, not taking his eyes off of Bular.
"You don't have to tell me twice" (Y/n) responds. She rushes over and gets on Jim's bike. The two boys quickly peddel away as Bular chases after them. They turn the corner and hide behind a truck, making the dark troll lose track of them.
Jim pulls out something from his bag, a silver amulet with a blue crystal in it. "Armor up, armor up, armor up! Please, now! Faster!" Toby urges his best friend.
(Y/n)'s eyebrows furrow as she stares at it. It looked like something straight out of Merlin's room, noting it was even glowing. "What is that?"
Her question was ignored as Jim chants. "Okay. “For the glory of Merlin, Daylight is mine to command.”" He closes his eyes, but nothing happened, making his eyes snap open again. "It’s not working!"
The three quickly move to the other side of the truck as Bular discovers their previous hiding place. Jim repeats ""For the glory of Merlin, Daylight is mine to command.” Seriously, it’s mine to command. I’m commanding here!" He yells, frustrated.
'So did Merlin actual make that thing? I never heard him mention an amulet' (Y/n)'s train of thought was interrupted by Bular lifting up the truck. "Centuries of Trollhunters, and I will have killed two in almost as many days"
"He’s good at math!" Toby screams in horror.
"Go, go, go!" Jim yells. (Y/n) jumps on the back of Jim's bike, grabbing him tightly by the waist. They rush over the street as Bular throws the truck at them, which they avoid by turning a corner.
Bular catches up to them, running like an animal. "I’ll flay the flesh from your bones!" He growls.
"No, thank you!"
"I like my bones the way they are. Thanks!"
The imitating Trolls jumps and lands in the middle of the road. He swings his claws at the teen, who were just able to avoid them. The turn corner to corner, trying to get the beast off their tail.
Jim spots a building. "Behind Stuart Electronics!" He instructs his best friend.
"You know I can’t fit there!" Toby argues.
"You can fit!
"I can’t!"
"You’ve been on a diet, remember?"
Jim dashes into the tight alleyway, with (Y/n) still holding onto him. Toby follows after, he slowly moves forward as Bular fit his arm through the small gap. "I can fit. I can fit! I can fit! I’m fitting! Yay, diet!" The brunette cheers as he comes out from the other side.
They speed over the bridge, stopping to catch their breath once they reached the end of it. "Catch… my breath. Look at me, look at me. We’re not dead, right?" Toby asks the other teens.
"Master Jim!" A voice calls out. Coming out of the forest was Blinky and Aaarrrggh, who was holding bushes infront of his face. The six-eyed troll notices the new person sitting on the back of Jim's bike. "And you've brought along another human".
'Trolls!' (Y/n)'s eyes light up as she jumps off the bike. She approaches the towering creatures, looking up at them. She looked like a little kid in a toy store, stars in her eyes. She had never seen a troll so close up.
"I must say she is quite tranquil, compared to young Tobias" Blinky mentions, thinking back to Toby screaming and calling animal control.
"I couldn't just leave her to be torn apart by Bular. He chased us all over town!" Jim responds, sounding frustrated.
"And you’re still alive. I knew you had potential, Master Jim" Blinkey smiles, proud of the new troll hunter.
"You have a sweet voice, but you bring death with you!" Toby points at the blue troll with a scowl on his face.
"You guys can fight him, right?" Jim asks, with hope in his voice. His question make the two Trolls burst into laughter.
"I could not hope to possess the skill to defeat Bular" Blinkey answers, knowing he'd be toast of he faced Bular.
"What about him? He’s big" Jim motions to the hulking Aaarrrggh.
"Pacifist" The big troll answers.
Toby pats his arm "Man, such a waste of a hulking brute"
"Thank you"
"So are we supposed to stand around, while Bular is still hunting us down, ready to make us his Midnight snack?" (Y/n) questions. She wised that she had her spellbook, in there possibly being a spell that could help.
Blinky puts one of his upper hands on the girl's shoulder. "This is why Jim here is the Troll hunter, to protect humans and Trolls alike against gum gums like Bular"
"Gum gum" (Y/n) repeats, muttering it. She slowly turns to see Bular sliding into sight, growling. "Okay, I think that is our sign to run"
"Follow me! We’ll be safe in Heartstone Trollmarket!" Blinky exclaims as the group runs, while Bular chases after them.
Bular grabs one of streetlamps and pulls it down, making a chain reaction, the other streetlamps falling down after it. Toby flies off his big as it hits one of the fallen poles, luckily being watched by Aaarrrggh.
"Master Jim! Don your armor!" Blinky instructs the boy.
"I’ve been trying! The amulet won’t listen to me!" Jim replies, peddling for his life.
"Did you speak the incantation?"
"I’ve been incanting the crap out of it, and it’s not working!"
"Just focus and incant, dude!" Toby yells, trying his best not to fly off of Aaarrrggh.
They reach the canal finally. Blinky jumps up and rolls down, while Jim skids his bike to stop his momentum. (Y/n) slides down, followed Aaarrrggh.
Jim reaches into his back, pulling out the amulett. His heartbeat spikes as Bular smashes through the trees. He speaks the incantation, yet nothing happens. He takes a breath, repeating it once more.
Just in time when Bular swipes his claw, the armor takes the bloe. Jim flies back, landing in the empty canal. His feet slide across the concrete as his sword appears in his hand.
(Y/n)'s eyes widen as she takes in the sight. How the armor manifested in the air and attached itself to his body. The amulet resting now in the chest of the armor, it glowing a bright blow. "Woah..." She mutters fascinated.
The heroic was ruined once Jim fled when he saw Bular roar. "Uh... nope" He said, running towards the others. Bular jumps in his way, blocking him.
"Use your sword, Master Jim!" Blinky instructs the young troll hunter.
Bular bares his fist. "I’ll drink your blood out of a goblet made of your skull!" He threatens.
"Cut him like a meatloaf, Jim!" Toby cheers his best friend on.
Jim points his sword at Bular as the dark troll rushes towards him. He swings his sword to block an attack, being send sliding back.
"We must work quickly. Open the portal!" Blinkey opens his sachet, pulling out a orange crystal. He tosses it over to Aaarrrggh. "The Horngazel!"
Aaarrrggh got to work. He slams it into the wall under the bridge and moves it around to make half circle in the concrete. The punches the middle with the crystal making it glow a bright blue. The wall in the circle breaks appart, revealing an area on the others side.
"Master Jim! Master Jim, come on!" Blinky calls out, wanting to not spare another second being in danger.
"I’m a little busy here" Jim yells back as he and Bular circle eachother. He holds his sword steady in his hand, pointing it at Bular.
Bular pulls out his dual blades. "You are not fit to wield the amulet. I’ll tear the armor off you! Along with your skin!" He slams down one of the blades towards Jim, which he dodges. The teen swings his sword at Bular, but it get stuck in Bular's thick skin. Jim gets lifted off the ground as the troll moves up his arm. Jim lets go of his sword and begins running towards the portal.
Aaarrrggh, Blinky, Toby and (Y/n) had already entered it. The latter had her arm outstretched towards him to grab. "Come on!" She yells, her (e/c) eyes flicker on the approaching Bular.
Finally reaching it, Jim and (Y/n)'s hand met. (Y/n) pulls him through, just before it could close in his face. The girl stumbles back by the force, making the two fall onto the floor as the portal closes.
Jim lets out a sigh of relief, his armor dissapearing from sight. He picks himself up, rubbing his sore joints. He turns to (Y/n), holding his hand out to help her up "Are you okay?".
"I should be asking you that" The girl replies. She grabs his hand once again, letting him pull her up. "You faced against a giant troll and got away without a scratch. Not to mention if you this awesome magical armor" She says with wonder.
Letting an akward chuckle, Jim rubs the back of his neck. "Yeah, there is a lot to explain" He says.
"Come on, we can't around here forever" Blinky mentions. He walks off, he steps down. A big blue crystal lights up underneath him, being followed by other crystals that formed a spiral staircase down. "This way, Masters. This way".
"Are you sure were safe in here?" Toby questions Blinky, watching his steps.
"Indeed. The incantation forbids entry to Heartstone Trollmarket by Gumm-Gumms such as Bular, for they are the most fearsome of trolls" Blinky explains to the brunette.
"Gumm-Gumms?" Jim repeats, confused.
"Scary ones" Aaarrrggh clarifies.
'So they refer to Trolls like Gunmar and Bular with a different name. Back in Camelot, they saw the trolls all the same. It was mostly because of kung Arthur, Morgana showed me there was more than that' (Y/n) thinks to herself, eyeing Blinky, before looking back at Aaarrrggh.
"Hey, (Y/n)" Toby chimes, bringing the girl back to reality.
"Hm, what is it?"
"How are you so chill about Trolls existing? I may got a little scared when they broke into Jim's house, but you were totally calm" He asks her, suspicion entered his mind.
"Well, I always loved fairytales. I may still believe in them, like fairies" (Y/n) lies through her teeth, putting on the same innocent she had when they first met.
"Do you believe in Santa Clause?" Toby half jokes.
'Who?' "Yeah absolutely" She answers, having no idea who he was talking about.
Blinky guides the three from the staircase, showing them a big town. In the center of it was a giant orange crystal. Troll roam the streets of it, who knew it was under Arcadia all this time.
"This is the world you are bound to protect.This… is Heartstone Trollmarket!"

CHAPTER FOUR
Chapter Three
Chapter five
Tumblr media
The party at the inn was in full swing everyone was happy that Gunmar's son had been killed by a troll hunter and the bridge of the beheading had been hidden in the marketplace for this reason Vendel finally cheered up when he realized that nothing threatened the marketplace or the trolls.
Anoana stood in a corner of the tavern sipping tea the wound from a few days ago was still healing and her left arm was too bandaged but that didn't make the woman stop her little expeditions, since she knew that Bular wasn't lurking in the shadows somewhere she could move more freely around Arcadia she didn't necessarily remember fondly the encounter with the dark prince when she left the marketplace at night to collect healing herbs
She wanted to forget about it at all
She swallowed her saliva hard and her jaw clenched tighter as she felt the pain from the scar that remained after meeting Bular in the forest she never forgot the stress that flowed through her and the thought that she wouldn't make it out alive before it was too late out of nowhere Kanjigar appeared and saved her
To his unwillingness
Despite everything, the widow did not manage to thank him, however, the news of Bular's death and Kanjigar's avenging filled her with gratitude and pride for the troll hunter. The widow's quiet footsteps headed towards Vendel - So? - She asked tilting her head, the old man looked at her with a raised eyebrow waiting for her to continue what she wanted to say - So now you believe in our human troll hunter? - She asked, putting down her empty tea mug on the nearest table
Vendel sighed, but smiled - Maybe you were right, the boy will do great deeds - He admitted, however, still rocking to the rhythm of the music that was playing in the background, Anoana smiled proudly - I'm always right - She muttered earning a giggle from the elderly troll, The widow gently bowed to the old man as a gesture of respect turned on her heel and walked away in a direction only she knew in herself
Before the widow had time to leave the inn she was stopped by the voice of a young troll - Are you leaving already? - Asked Indun while sipping her drink closely watching the older troll - The party hasn't even started - Whined the younger troll as he approached the widow
Anoana only smiled - Parties are not my forte Indun - She reminded the younger troll by gently waving her hands in an unwilling manner, ever since she lost Angor her social life was closed only to her friendship with Vendel and Indun. Come the last few days she has opened up enough to try to befriend a human troll hunter, maybe it's also due to curiosity - All the more reason not to celebrate on this day - whispered the widow looking dully at the ground
- Tacos for everyone! - Cried Toby handing out Tacos to everyone as he said, but the widow shook her head refusing to accept human food her portion was given to Indun who without argument accepted an extra portion of Tacos which she clearly liked
Anoana, even though she was smiling tried to hide the pain in her eyes - You should be amused Anoana - Indun muttered while swallowing the Tacos that Domzalski distributed, the widow sent a murderous glance towards the younger troll - Don't look at me like that - She only shrugged her shoulders unmoved by the widow's gaze - It's been almost three centuries! You've continued to pick yourself up and you don't even sing like you used to,” the younger troll argued further, unconcerned with the widow's increasingly angry gaze
- Sing? - A voice behind Anoana suddenly spoke up, causing her to roll her eyes as she turned to look at the teenage troll hunter. The widow closed her eyes and ran her hand over her face with fatigue - Anoana used to sing when we celebrated something or during ritual times - Explained an excited Indun smiling pointing at the widow as if the troll hunter didn't know who the younger troll was talking about
- I used to sing is the correct answer,” the widow mocked, ‘I used to sing,’ she crossed her arms over her chest as a grimace spread across her stony face, Jim's blue eyes gently lit up as he smiled, ”No. I will not. I will not do it - growled Anoana wanting to head for the exit to end the conversation however she did not do so why? She had no idea but her legs refused to obey she felt as if her legs had become a real stone preventing her from moving in any direction to escape from this conversation
- You sang during the battles you won - Indun spoke up again wanting to persuade her mentor to return to the old habit she had abandoned so long ago - Bular is dead is a reason to celebrate - She argued further the younger troll causing Jim to be more and more interested Blinky sitting next to Jim was not too thrilled about persuading Indun to sing Anoana, likewise the interested party herself
- Isn't this a good reason to return to old habits? - Persuaded this time by Toby interjecting himself into the conversation, the widow felt every troll's gaze fixed on her stony skin. She shouldn't celebrate without him. She shouldn't sing without him. She shouldn't play the drums without him - Unless you're afraid - Indun wanted to joke with the widow but was met with the worst look the widow could give her
- No - She growled almost at the younger troll, the widow was famous for being calm and her nerves were made of steel it was hard to upset her however Indun never got to know Anoana's worst anger until today - I will not play, celebrate, sing. Even more so on this day,” Anoana hissed fending off the conversation by running for the exit to lose the curious gazes of the trolls
The chief of the market also watched the situation worried about the widow's mood wanted to intervene, but before Vendel could intervene or do anything else to calm the widow she had managed to leave - And to this one what happened? - Jim asked, confused by the widow's behavior.
Indun sighed heavily - Young Indun can't understand some things - Murmured Vendel shaking his head looking then at the younger troll looking guiltily at the ground and then at the door through which the widow left - Today is the day she let her husband out of the village - Blinky spoke up putting his hand on Jim's shoulder - And he never came back to her - He finished with a slight twist of his blue face as his orange nose wrinkled up
- It has been almost three centuries and she is still after him refusing every pastime she did with him - Explained a worried Indun - Despite persuasion she is still looking for him while refusing everything - She finished - Including my training - She mourned as the daggers hanging on Indun's back began to burn her as she thought how long it takes her to persuade the widow to do anything other than look for the ring or bury Angor
The younger troll shook her head and Vendel spoke up this time, sensing the atmosphere that was thickening with each passing moment - Those are topics for other days, right now we are celebrating the capture of the bridge of the beheading and the killing of Bular son of Gunmar by our troll hunter! - Exclaimed Vendel spreading his arms out to the sides the party moved on and every troll forgot about the drama that unfolded moments later
- And no one helped her look for her husband? - Asked Jim and his voice was quiet as he looked at his mentor, Blinkous only shook his head - When the war for the common lands, Gunmar attacked her village she tried to protect her village and her people with her husband - Explained Blinky slowly but after a moment he shook his head - That's a story for another time - He stated directly cutting himself off from the topic - And it's rather for Anoana to tell you - sighed gloomily the blue troll and his ears drooped

A Snow Experiment
A/N: Disclaimer this is Tales of Arcadia Fanfic and the characters do not belong to me. And of course you own you. I'll be using [Name] and [Last name] as a substitute to Y/N and L/N. This will be a quick thing and I don't really know if I'll do a part two, unless you want me to (It was not a quick thing). Im so sorry! This is a female reader! You can change the pronouns and stuff. I'm a female myself so it's easier to do so.
[Name] [Last Name] was a regular teen. Or as regular as she can be. Right now she was sitting crisscrossed on the floor with a white dress. She inhaled and exhaled twice before opening her [Eye Color] eyes. Her cold stare matched the cold room. Ice everywhere, snow scattered on the floor, and ice sculptures on the bookshelf as little snowflakes fell.
She looked around hearing the clink clacks of heels coming from the hallway outside. The door creaked and a woman walked in. Her blonde hair that was in a high ponytail moved back and forth as she walked towards her. "Experiment 626 (six two six), rise." The woman said, more like commanded. [Name] obliged with it. She rose gracefully, her expression still cold, dark, and blank.
The woman looked down at the clipboard and wrote a few words. "You have visitors." The woman said as she glanced at [Name] before looking back at the clipboard. This peaked [Name's] interest. A visitor? That was new and forbidden. She wasn't allowed to see anybody. Especially since last time...
"Run!"
"She's gone mad!"
Sreams were heard so many screams. "Stop her!" She struggled to move from the grip of the fire Experiment. Those Experiments are used for her. "She almost killed her!"
She looked at the person with a bleeding arm. Her [Eye Color] eyes held unshed tears.
She blinked the memory away and looked down, her [Hair Color] fell on her face a little. (If you have Afro hair or smth like Muslim then ignore that). "Why are they here?" [Name] siad as she raised her head up. The woman looked at her and grinned. "You'll see." Was all she said and walked out the room leaving thw door open.
[Name] stood there. She wasn't sure if she should go. What di it was a trap? She walked to the door leaving trails of ice behind her. Every step she took made a clicking sound. She stepped out of the room and looked to the long hallway to hear faint whispers of people talking.
"She is very beautiful." She heard the woman's voice say. "How long has she lived for?" A man's voice came next. "Well, Borislav, she has lived sicne the 12th century...Camelot." The woman answered. [Name] was coming closer. "Camelot?" The man named Borislav said. "Mm, indeed." The woman hummed. "You know what this could bring to us, Isabella?" Borislav's voice rose.
"I do. And she has powers beond our reach. She could be the key for all our troubles." The woman that attended [Name] earlier is now known as Isabella, said. "And besides, you can take her. She's all yours for 50 million." [Name] could hear the grin in her voice. "50 million?" The man said doutful. "I'll take her." He announced.
"Perfect! We have a deal." Isabelle reached for his hand and he shook it. "Pardon, but what is happening?" Asked [Name] as she came up from behind the hallway wall. Her hand rested on her chest as the other was holding the side of the wall. "[Name], darling, you're leaving the lab." Isabella said as she turned to look at her.
The man looked at [Name] up and down and he grinned. [Names] cold, dark, and blank expressions were no more. It changed to a terrified one. She didn't know where she would go.
As she sat on the soft surface of a couch she looked down at her hand that rested on her lap. The clink crack of heels. She lifted her head up and stared at the blonde woman known as Isabella.
"Experiment 626 (six two six)," She stopped infront of her. "You are going to Arcadia Oaks."

“We’re home, mom! Y/n! Merlin?” Y/n heard the front door opening “Got the stuff you needed”
Her heart increased its already fast pace.
“He is going to kill me” she whispered as she looked up at the couple surviving pieces of Jim’s vespa laying on the garage’s table from her place on the floor.
“Ugh” Merlin rolled his eyes. The wizard was tired of the girl’s nervousness.
Y/n ignored him. She tried and tried to explain to him how important the vespa was but it didn’t seem to matter to him. It didn’t fit his logic, if it does fit what Merlin already believes, he won't try to do it any other way.
“What’s that smell?” Toby complained.
“Hell” Y/n screamed to the trollhunter team that were still at the door.
“We’re in the garage” Blinky announced.
Aaarrrgghh and Blinky were still impregnated by the horrid smell of the cave where Merlin sent them to look for something that he didn’t allow Y/n to see.
Jim followed the voice of the troll, opening the door followed by Toby and Claire carrying the trophies of their conquest.
“It appears your little excursion was just as fruitful as our own” Blinky pointed to the table.
“My vespa?” Jim screamed, only being able to focus on the remains of his bike.
“I’m so sorry, Jim” Y/n stood up.
“Aaah” he dropped to the floor in agony “what did you do?”
“I put it to much better use” Merlin nodded and Y/n pulled one of the covers “This one is for Tobias”
“What?! We got armors too?!” Toby screamed as the sheet fell to the ground revealing an orange suit of armor “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this! So cool! So cool!” He ran up to it to look it up closer. With one of his finger, he carefully caresed the metal “Look how shiny it is”
Y/n smiled, happy that her work with Jim’s bike had made him so happy. She took a step back and looked at her father before revealing the last one.
“And this one is for Lady Claire” Merlin said as the sheet fell revealing a purple set of armor.
“Oh. Wow” Claire breathed “Holy guacamole”
“Do you like it?” Y/n smiled “I used purple because is totally your color”
“Yes” the girl carefully touched the metal “You did this?”
“I like mine better” Toby stated.
“I’m glad. I did it thinking of you” Y/n chuckled, turning to Claire “Yeah. I’m going to have metal under my nails for a hundred years”
“Wow. Thanks. It’s amazing” Claire smiled.
Y/n blushed. She took a step back to observe the happiness her work has made.
“Good work” Merlin ruffled Y/n hair.
She smiled back to her father. Besides being forced to destroy her brother’s bike the afternoon was very tame, nice even. Merlin let her take the lead in the design and construction of the armors. Father and daughter working together side by side on the floor of the garage, recounting old memories in between the comfortable silence.
“That’s surprisingly nice of you, Merlin” Jim said.
“Quick query” Blinky wasn’t as trusty as his student “If we’ve been collecting items for a spell to thwart Gunmar, then why would they require armor?”
“A spell? You thought we would stop Gunmar and Angor Rot without going to war?” Merlin couldn't believe the ingenuity of the troll.
Y/n shifted in her place. They still haven’t recovered from the consequences from the last war but Merlin was right. There wasn’t any other way
“Do you have sand for brains?” The wizard started pacing.
“Wait, a war?” Jim asked.
“Once freed,” Merlin cracked his neck “Morgana will attempt to bring forth the Eternal Night”
“Free Morgana?” Y/n’s voice came out more hopeful than she wanted to.
“Sounds like you’re saying you’re not going to stop Gunmar from freeing that witch” Claire stopped playing with her new armor and turned to the wizard.
“Oh, did I not make myself clear? I’m not here to stop Gunmar” Merlin clenched his fists behind his back. Y/n frowned, she only saw him do this a couple of times: once when Douxie wouldn’t shut up about his staff after almost dying and a couple of times when discussing important matters with King Arthur “I’m here to kill Morgana”
Y/n felt her knees give out. She walked back until she found a solid surface, a wall to hold the weight of her soul. Maybe it was naive, childish even but all these years she hoped to bring back the Morgana she knew, that maybe, if they gave her enough time, Y/n could find a way to bring back the sister she once knew, but with this war, Merlin wouldn’t give her the time.
Her father’s possible words resonated in her mind “Grow up, Y/n! She’s a monster! She’s never going to change! We have to kill her, now!” She would cry and her father would mellow, he would understand the grief her daughter is going through and say “I’m sorry, Birdie but there is no other way”
“And maybe there’s no other way. Maybe I have to grow up. Maybe my sister has been dead this whole time” she thought.
“Jim. Jim. Jim!” Y/n was brought back by Claire’s screams.
“Want to weigh in here?” An irritated Toby asked the trollhunter “Merlin just dropped the bomb we have to let Morgana loose”
Y/n looked around, her father had walked to the other side of the room somehow. She walked by the entrance door where he was standing and sat down on the steps, her body still too shaky to stand.
“Wait, he destroyed my Vespa” Jim said.
Y/n chuckled, lowering her head, her shoes suddenly more calming. Looks like she wasn’t the only one at her limit.
“He what? See? Then you must listen to the voice of reason. Mine!” Blinky screamed.
“Gunmar has the staff of Avalon. Soon he will find a way to free her. This is when we will strike. Together, we’ll slay Morgana before the Eternal Night starts” Merlin explained.
“Woah woah woah” interrupted Toby “I’m sorry, you want Jim to go up against Gunmar and Angor Rot and Morgana?”
“Do you have any other idea?” Y/n asked, already disheartened by the circumstances.
“Now is the time to strike” Merlin didn’t let Toby answer “She’s been imprisoned for centuries and she will be at her weakest. This is our best chance”
“Wait” Claire stepped forward “If Jim defeats Morgana, you get your magic back”
Y/n lifted her head.
“That would be a pleasant bonus, yes” Merlin frowned.
“Oh, you only want your magic back!” Blinky said ironically “Aaarrrgghh, my friend, put your fist through the old man’s face”
“Well, that’s not fair” Y/n stood up, her face revealing the anger she felt at her friends.
“Mmm. Old man make sense. Stop witch forever” Aaarrrgghh shook his head.
“I’m with Blinky. Sounds like Merlin wants his magic back” Toby said.
“What if Merlin’s right? He’s been right about everything else” Claire frowned, scared of making the wrong choice.
“Thank you” Merlin bowed.
“Claire” Toby chuckled “Gunmar and Morgana wants to destroy the world” he turned to Merlin “We live in this world!”
“Yet, this world is protected by the trollhunter. What say he?” Merlin turned to Jim
“Uuh” Jim looked back at the expecting eyes “I need to think”
“Then, I await your decision” Merlin bowed.
“Jim” Y/n walked up to him with a soft smile in her face, she grabbed his hands “The decision you make is the one I’ll be happy to fight for”
Jim nodded, returning the smile with difficulty, the nervousness creeping into his spine.
Y/n turned back to leave.
“Whatever you choose, if we are to fight, we’ll need an army. Aaaarrrgghh and I will see what we can do. As to whom we are fighting. I’ll leave that to master Jim” Blinky said.
Merlin and Y/n shared a look and rolled their eyes.
“She’s not receiving my texts” Y/n tipped with one hand and bitted her other index fingernail.
“Thanks. Call me if you do” Claire says to her phone “My mom hasn’t seen her either”
“She’s not at the hospital” added Toby.
Jim and Y/n looked at eachother, hoping that the other had news they hadn’t shared.
“Asking for mommy’s permission?” Merlin mocked from behind the fridge.
“Shut up” Y/n turned, pointing Merlin with her phone “I used to ask for permission to breathe. There’s no need to be an ass”
Merlin raised his eyebrows, a half smile in his face.
“You’re asking us to wage a war. It’s only fair to have everyone weigh in” Jim explained, calmer than Y/n.
“I’m feeling a bit peckish. Where do you keep your fresh haggis?” Merlin looked through the fridge.
“What sort of cannibal wizard hungers for boiled meat in a sheep’s stomach? Ugh” Toby turned to the door “I’ll see if anyone at the school has seen her”
“What kind of sixteen year old knows what a haggis is?” Y/n frowned.
Before Toby could open the door he was tackled by Nomura.
“Jeez, lady, don’t you knock?” He complained.
“Nomura!” Jim ran to aid his friend and the changeling.
“Blood! There’s blood on the rug and it’s purple!” Toby screamed.
“What happened?” Y/n walked up to the changeling.
“Usurna tried to capture me at the museum” Nomura stood up with difficulty “Gunmar needs a changeling to activate the staff of Avalon”
“So he found a way around my safeguard. He needs human hands who can speak in troll tongue. If they fail to take her, they’ll look for others” Merlin looked at Jim.
“Strickler” he said.
“Mom” Y/n said.
“Do you think she’s with him?” Claire asked.
Jim quickly pulled out his phone and called Strickler only to be sent to voicemail.
“We don’t know for sure she was with him” Toby tried to be positive.
“Don’t be naive” Y/n burst his bubble.
“Split up and search everywhere! Find my mother!” Desperation irradiated from Jim’s plea.
“It’s okay. We’ll find them, Jim” Claire smiled.
Y/n turned to Merlin her eyes full of tears:
“Please, let me go with them” she grabbed his arm.
“Of course, Birdie. What kind of man wouldn’t let her daughter look for her mother?” He smiled, wiping with his thumb the tear that had fallen.
“Thank you, father” she hugged him, her cheek hitting the cold metal of the armor.
“Go” he kissed her head.
Y/n ran to the center of Arcadia looking in every corner hoping to find her mother’s red hair but only finding empty spaces. She walked and walked, praying that she was wrong, that she didn’t send Claire and Toby to a dangerous fight. She imagined Strickler and her mother having a date in a remote corner of Arcadia and for the first time she didn’t want to pull her hair out.
“Meow”
Y/n feet stopped. She looked down, tears falling down from her face, she chuckled.
“Hi, Al”
“Meow” he repeated, rubbing himself between her legs.
Y/n kept looking at the cat with amusement. The way his skinny body moved in circles between her legs, his soft fur felt against his shaky body, how his tail, that seemed burnt at the tip, tickled when it disconnected from her body. Her brain was so filled with tragedy that looking at her cat felt like a religious experience.
“Y/n?” The familiar voice sounded so distant yet so close.
She looked up, finding in the distance the boy, the man which she was hoping to see all day. A smile formed in her face washing away all the tears that were burning her eyes.
“Doux?” she asked, well aware of the answer.
The blue haired guy shifted his broom from hand to hand and waved. His hand stopped in the middle of the air but quickly resumed the greeting.
Y/n laughed at the young wizard, her heart filling with the warmth she craved.
“Doux!” She screamed as she ran to the man’s arms.
“Y/n!” He screamed, dropping the broom to catch her before both of them could fall.
She snaked her legs around his waist, pulling her head away from his neck.
“Hi!” She said with a gigantic smile.
“Hello?” Douxie frowned, his cheeks flushed “are you okay?”
Y/n squinted.
“Were you crying?” Tried to get closer to her eyes.
The sudden happiness that had invaded her body disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Y/n dropped her legs, her eyes filling up once more.
“I’ve been an idiot” she looked deeply into his hazel eyes.
“I really don’t follow” he chuckled, disappointed at the loss of touch.
“Can we talk inside” she points to the library.
Douxie nodded.
Y/n looks at the sky and can’t help to, once again, pray for everyone’s safety.
Y/n followed Douxie to his apartment, to her favourite place in this town: the brown leather couch. She sat down, closing her eyes when her head hit the back. With her eyes closed, she wished she could be more selfish and leave this war to someone else, to go back to her house and say to everyone “hey! We don’t have to do this! Someone else can! Let’s hide at Doux until it’s over!” But she can’t. She couldn’t.
“Do you want something to drink?”
Y/n opened her eyes and found Douxie looking down at her.
“No. No” she grabbed his wrist “Come sit” she pushed him close to her.
“Love, what’s going on? Should I be worried?” Douxie lifted his arms as Y/n finded a comfortable position in his chest.
“I’m sorry for not telling you about everything but I can’t tell you exactly what’s going on” she crossed her arms behind his back “Don’t be mad”
Douxie sighed:
“I’m not mad” he lowered his arms, hugging her back “You said you wanted to talk?”
“I know” her voice trembled.
Douxie looked down at Y/n. Her eyes were lost in whatever was the whole issue at hand. He knew the situation well. Back in Camelot, when Merlin used to make her keep secrets, useless or not so useless secrets that would fill her up, to eat her up, she would shut down like this. Now, she was trying to compartmentalize the secret to tell Douxie what she could without getting into trouble with her father.
“They’re going to free Morgana” Y/n said, tears falling down unapologetically.
“Oh. How…”
“And they’re going to kill her” she sobbed, hiding her face into his chest “I know is the only way…”
“But you hoped it wasn’t” Douxie hugged her tighter.
“Why do we have to do this all over again?” She sat up “Maybe there is another way? I mean…there is a human trollhunter…” she stopped when she saw Douxie’s look.
“I’m sorry” he whispered.
“I know. She doomed and she did it to herself” she lowered her head in Douxie’s shoulder “Maybe in another life”
He hugged her closer trying to absorb the grief from the tragedy that has been following them since they were children. Y/n closed her eyes, melting in his touch.
“Doux” she whispered.
“Mmh?”
“The world may be ending in a couple of hours…” she looked up.
He looked down at her, his eyes full of curiosity.
She lifted her hands placing it in his cheek, the little stubble prickling her palm. He gave into the warmth of her movement.
“I don’t want it to end without being yours” she whispered, her face red as the roses Douxie had brought for her.
“We don’t have time to get married besides Master…” he rambled, too nervous to answer.
Y/n chuckled:
“No, dumbass” her hand falling to his chest as her face got redder by the second.
“Oh. Oh” he face relaxed and tensed back.
“Oh” Y/n mocked with a smile.
Douxie smiled at the girl's attempt to lighten up the mood. He grabbed her face and got closer to her:
“We don’t have to” he whispered.
“I want to” she grabbed the collar of his shirt and kissed with the passion of a woman with no future.
Douxie quickly returned the kiss, his hungry hands wandering Y/n’s torso, finding the hem of the shirt and discarding it easily.
Y/n panted as she felt Douxie’s penetrating gaze on her. The flush traveled to her chest as his glossy eyes moved up and down.
“You’re even more beautiful than the first time I saw you” he said, his cheeks as crimson as hers.
“Thank you” Y/n smiled.
Douxie smiled back and kissed Y/n nose making her giggle.
“Should I?” Y/n gently pulled Douxie’s black shirt.
“Do you want to?” He raised his brow “Scandalous”
“Please, don’t tell the ladies of the court” Y/n laughed as she took out Douxie’s shirt.
Y/n was mesmerized. She probably had the same face he had seconds ago. She stretched her hand, with her fingers caressing his chests, his stomach. Obsessing how Douxie would twitch under her touch.
“Now I get all the teenagers” she pressed her palm on his chest “you’re hot”
“Now you get them?” Douxie pretended to be offended.
Y/n nodded with a big smile as she got closer to his neck, biting the place where his shoulder and neck met.
“Ah” he moaned, pulling Y/n away softly by the hair “What was that?”
“In case we survive. I don’t like sharing” she laughed.
“I don’t like sharing either” Douxie lifted Y/n from the couch and disappeared into the bedroom.
Y/n closed her eyes, Douxie’s limbs and hers tangled with each other, outside the birds sang and the wind ruffled the trees. For a moment, the world is not ending, nobody is dying, she’s not losing a part of herself. She wishes she could live in this moment but she knows that her wishes always fall on deaf ears, that the god that was assigned to her has left the building long ago. She was granted one wish, one good thing for eternity and she was sharing a bed with him.
She felt Douxie shift so she turned to face him.
“I can’t believe I slept with Douxie from Ash Dispersal Pattern” she joked.
Douxie laughed and lifted his head from the pillow. “Good for you love but you better leave before my girlfriend gets here” he said putting on a raspy voice.
“I’ll kill you” Y/n bitted Douxie’s bicep. “That’s an awful Ozzy by the way”
“I do what I can” he dropped back to the pillow, dragging himself to be closer to Y/n.
“What now?” She buried her hand in Douxie’s hair.
“We wait until you have to go or I’ll have to go to the battle of the bands” Douxie’s hand found a place in Y/n waist.
“No! The battle of the bands! I completely forgot” Y/n pinched the bridge of her nose “How do I still have a job is beyond me” Y/n sighed, her job was at the bottom of her list of priorities right now.
“Shh” Douxie pulled her closer “Let’s just lay here. Let’s wait for the end”
“Thank you” Y/n kissed Douxie's forehead.
“Why?” He whispered.
“For going along” Y/n closed her eyes.
“Til the end of eternity” Douxie kissed her cheek, closing his eyes.
Y/n laid there pretending to be in the woods of her childhood, back where her problems were less smothering, back when she could still dream to run away with the errand boy without hurting anybody. Now, she loved more people than the three she had back then. She couldn’t abandon the world without consequences. She had to fight and fighting was going to cost her ever more than last time.
Something turned in Y/n’s stomach.
“Did you feel that?” She sat up, starting to dress up.
“No, I was falling asleep” Douxie muttered.
Something had just happened that was going to change the balance in the world.
“I have to go” Y/n kissed Douxie.
“Should I go with you?” Douxie sat up once the urgency woke him up.
“No, be normal” she screamed from the living room as she looked for her bag.
Y/n moved her wrist making her staff appear in her hand. She took a deep breath and pointed the staff to the door, focussing to make a portal appear. Her staff shot a dark mass that quickly stabilized. Y/n sighed and crossed it, appearing in her house.
She wanted to shout, she hadn't used dark magic in years but the sense of darkness killed all her joy.
The house was a mess. Furniture thrown around everywhere, the tv was on on a random channel, all of the books where in the floor.
“Jim? Father?” Y/n screamed as she walked on top of a broken vase.
“Birdie! Have you found your mother?” Merlin walked out of the kitchen, unfazed by the mess.
“What happened?” Y/n clenched her staff.
“What had to happen” he walked forward with his hands behind his back “I talked to Jim”
“What did you tell him?” Y/n frowned, the feeling was growing stronger.
“I shared with him a vision I had while I rested” Merlin put a hand on Y/n’s shoulder “I saw a way to finally end this stalemate. To win this war, I must have a champion with a foot in both worlds”
“No” Y/n whispered, shaking her head. She looked up at her father with her eyes full of tear “You didn’t” she pushing his hand away.
“It’s his destiny” Merlin said like it would suffice.
“He is a child!” Y/n screamed Sixteen. A baby”
“It’s the only way!”
“I don’t care!”
Y/n felt the atmosphere dropping, everything was heavy to be quickly lifted from her shoulders. She looked around, everything seemed similar except her father’s concerned face.
“You’re bleeding” he pointed to her face.
She lifted her hand to her nose and cleaned the blood from under it. She looked at it and looked back at her father.
“I don’t…” she couldn’t finish the phrase, a gigantic explosion in her mind interrupted her. She took her hands to her temples trying to quiet down the sound.
“The Eternal Night is here” Morgana’s voice proclaimed and everything was quiet once more.
Y/n looked up at her father, cleaning up the new blood coming out from her nose:
“She’s out”
Y/n heard the faucet turned on and ran up stairs ignoring the rest of blood in her hands and face.
“Jim” she screamed “Please! Let me find another way!” She screamed and kicked the door.
“Y/n Ambrosius do not interviene. It’s his choice” Merlin warned from the living room.
“Jim! Please!” She cried and knocked on the door until her knuckles bleeded.
Y/n sat by the door in silence as she heard the tub filled up. She screamed and kicked and knocked, he wasn’t coming out.
“I guess I’m staying until you come out” Y/n chuckled “He’s right. It’s your choice and I already told you the decision you make is the one I’ll be happy to fight for. I guess this still applies”
The faucet stopped.
Y/n stood up.
“I love you, Jim” She whispered to the door “I’ll see you on the other side”
Y/n walked down the stairs and sat on the floor looking at her father walking around the room.
“There really wasn’t any other way?” She asked one last time trying to kill her guilt. She already knew if it was in his father’s vision it was probably the only way.
“No” he shook his head.
She nodded. Lowering her head, waiting for Jim to come out. Y/n smiled when she noticed she had accidentally put on Douxie’s shirt.
“Jim” Toby screamed.
Y/n looked at the door. Claire and Toby had brought her mother and Stickler back in one piece.
“Where’s Jim?” Barbara screamed at the wizard that was playing with the tv.
“Finally becoming a true trollhunter” Merlin said.
“You never” Strickler stepped forward.
The house shook, making Barbara follow the sounds.
“Jim! “She screamed “are you in there?”
They screamed and kicked and knocked but Jim wouldn’t answer.
Y/n stood up and walked to her father, like a child who's afraid would do when she can’t tolerate the dark anymore. She pressed her forehead on his back, closing her eyes with force, trying to block out the screams and then the silence.
