aaaand here we go again, this time with my take on a vam-- I MEAN, my I-can't-believe-it's-not-another-vampire AU. what can I say, I'm a sucker for messy AU ideas. ba dum tss. ALRIGHT ALRIGHT, all jokes aside... I couldn't resist after seeing so many fun vampire Siffrin AU ideas floating around, but still wanted to try my hand at doing something a little different. don't be fooled, this has at least 2000% more world building packed into it than it has any business having.

hey, I didn't lie! they're not actually a vampire! technically!! don't worry, I came up with something worse. more below the cut.

set in a world where fae encounters are simply a grim reality of life, Siffrin himself is a part of the darkness that humanity has been taught to fear-- even if he himself doesn't realize what that entails. how could he, when everything that he was has been erased from the world? the Court of the Empty Star is no more, scattered to the winds-- its history wiped clean, even from the fae themselves. weak and depleted without their source of magic, the 'Lost Ones' found new ways of filling the hollowness it left behind-- methods that would render them monsters more than any fae had ever been before.

somewhere along the coast, a human village took pity on a wayward child and took them in, raising them as their own. they believed him to be a harmless abandoned changeling, a creature of fae origin that had lost its ill-gotten mortal name yet been left behind as a part of their world. they only knew he was no such thing after livestock started going missing, nothing but scattered inedible remnants left behind by morning. this certainly was not the work of a changeling. so they called him something else; a 'Cursed One,' bearing the Curse of Hunger that had twisted its afflicted for generations... an insatiable beast who could live forever by devouring the lives of others.

how could they abide something so dangerous in their homes?

how long until this hungry little monster was eating more than just chickens and cattle, after all? it was only ever a matter of time.

how long until their own families began to look like easy food?

he heard every word spoken in the town hall that night, and knew that this place would never be the home he'd hoped it to be.

so the child ran, and ran, and they've never stopped running since.

it's been over a decade since then. deep in the heart of the nation of Vaugarde, a vast fount of otherworldly power flows its cursed power across the land, twisting the land of mortals into a paradise for beings of the Moonlit Realm. there, concealed by night with only the moon and the stars shining overhead, creatures of the darkness travel freely and humanity is condemned to wander as ageless beasts. rumors even claimed that the pure magic of this strange, macabre 'blessing' could cure the hunger of a Cursed One.

'Siffrin' was never the type to play hero. everyone knows that the favors of a monster never come for free, after all. the Saviors believe he is their secret weapon, a mysterious creature who seems as at ease in this expanse of unfathomable night as they are in the day.

but he knows the truth. their new 'friends' will pay the price for such a dreadful bargain-- even if they haven't yet realized the cost.

will they pay their toll in blood or in tears? in time, or the stars above?

or will the pull of two conflicting worlds snap him in two first?

What is your actual opinion on the infamous Caucasian joke?

Understood= the outside context to the joke itself (the fandom quarrelling between whether the hs kids were white or bipoc)

Good taste= was the joke in good taste? was it poking fun at people being racist towards bipoc headcanons or was it punching down on people who just wanted to see characters that aren't white?

Funny= obviously, is the joke even funny? this can range from a mild exhale from the nose to uncontrollable laughter

(worldbuilding) thinking more about how "dungeons" actually work on a thematic level in fairytale au and i'm jiving with the idea of them as pockets of reality straining under moral complexity which eventually corrode into unambiguous Evil to fight off that "infection", if that makes any sense. thistle sets himself apart from that by locking away the arbiter and freezing his world (hence the stillness, compared to canon GK still being shown to have things like nighttime) to prevent any further corruption. it works because he isn't entirely self-motivated—his intentions are just as much selfless as they are selfish and the world just can't cope with that internal contradiction

I am very wary of concepts of being able to hear deities and other entities. Between how I was raised and being a system, it's just something that I struggle with the concepts of personally.

That said I have had experiences of "hearing" things from Loki and I am sort of learning to sus out his communication from things like system communication and those things.

Today I think is a fabulous example of that.

I have had two dreams in which Loki has made appearances in about as many weeks and I kind of knew there was something to these dreams because he was the only person in the dream that I could never fully see. He's been encouraging me to work on my intuition, so I just rolled on the assumption that that was him in my dreams just making himself known, just to let me know that he was there.

So these kinds of concepts have been on my mind lately and have brought up a lot of contemplation about where does caution end and fear begin. Now I am not at all afraid of Loki, I do have concerns about other things pretending to be him or just...y'know, ✨️ religious delusions✨️.

So that kind of sets the stage for what just happened today. I was piddling on tiktok and pouting about my painting that didn't go the way I wanted. When I remember I haven't eaten much today so I open the pantry and get the sense of "Hey, maybe have an apple".

Now I assumed this was Loki for a few reasons. 1) it wasn't "Let's have an apple" as it would have been in my own thoughts or system communication and 2) the video I was listening to was about him and that tends to catch his attention (2.5 I had been thinking about the aforementioned communication thing).

So I grab my apple and as I reach for the cutting board I get an image of the last time I had an apple with cinnamon and sugar, now this I did think was system communication. We have aphasia so images can be easier than words. And as I agree to cinnamon on my apple the video which is now talking about offerings to Loki mentions apples and cinnamon as some of his favorite things.

The snort and giggle I heard over my shoulder when I just came to a complete and total stop.

I also want to clarify, I like tajin or peanut butter on my apples. I never put the cinnamon sugar mix on my apples till someone (I thought in the system) asked to try it last week.

So anyway I think the reason things about clairaudience keeps coming up on my various fyps despite my scrolling is because Loki has been trying to get my attention.

DMC5 is definitely a cool and fun game but I feel like it really goes out of its way to make it harder to learn how to actually play it

I mentioned on stream last night the part where there's moves like Nero's Max Act that want you to time things but it doesn't actually give you any indication of the timing (so aside from learning the timing itself you also have to figure out when the appropriate time is through...trial and error? I guess?)

But with Dante in particular with all his different weapons it's got a thing where most of the various movesets have moves with similar functions that all have different inputs

Like. You start with Nero and he's got a gap-closer on forward + X and a launcher on back + X, then in the air you have your normal air combo and back + X becomes a ground slam, so you're like "ah, I see, this is my elevation-change input"

Then you get Dante with Devil Sword Sparda and on the ground it's the same, all well and good, but then in the air your only X input is a ground slam and your air combo is on Y (but only when you're in Swordmaster). Alright fair enough I suppose this is a different character let's try his other weapons.

His second weapon, Balrog, still has a gap-closer on forward + X, and back + X is - a mode change. Which then has a launcher on forward + X. And when you're in the air punch mode has the air combo on X and a ground slam on Y, but kick mode has the air combo on Y and a ground slam on X why are these different.

You unlock Cavaliere and it changes it up again where back + Y is a launcher, and back + X in midair actually goes further up instead of down... I haven't got the fourth weapon yet so we'll have to see what shenanigans that one pulls.

A lot of folks designing tabletop RPG magic systems could really benefit from reading up on contemporary theology. "Oh, what if the rituals don't actually do anything, but sometimes trickster spirits fake the results just to fuck with people" like, I cannot emphasise strongly enough that this is what many American Protestants actually believe.
