Let’s talk about the Slenderverse Symbol and it's origin.

TW for talk of Adam Rosner & TribeTwelve.

The Slenderverse Symbol shown above has been in use in the fandom for years, but many people don’t know where it came from. So, what’s up with it?

The symbol was originally posted to Deviantart on April 14th, 2011 by a user I hate to mention. “TheNimbus,” also known as Adam Rosner. Obviously, he’s a really shitty dude! That’s why at least I have grown a hatred for this symbol. It’s honestly pretty shitty looking anyway, of course that fucker made the severance symbol biggest.

Over the years I’ve been in plenty of spaces where a slenderverse symbol would be fun to use as an icon, emote, banner, all that shit. So eventually, not wanting to use Adam’s shitty symbol, me and my friends came up with our own.

Some stuff was moved around around and inspiration was taken from some older SlenderSymbols, and we came up with this bad boy. It’s still kind of shitty looking, but at least it’s not Rosner!

The Operator Symbol is now the biggest just by proxy of influence, importance and popularity. Despite the Severance Symbol being the, y’know, Severance Symbol I felt like I had to keep it in just due to the relevance it did serve to gen one. This is in no way a pro-Rosner symbol though. I mean, I made this thing out of spite.

I may end up making some sort of New Gen symbol at some point since it turns out symbol making is actually really fun, so look out for that! Have fun with this symbol!

Not necessarily- I have watched tribetwelve, but I was more grabbing the 'anime character with bright white glasses and shadowed face' trope. I'll also say that Trent is an (entirely human) actor for his own schemes and interests, unlike Observer, who is a puppet-vessel for powers beyond control.

i watched Jane Schoenbrun's A Self-Induced Hallucination, an experimental documentary about the slender man. that's a topic i thought about a lot as a child. i wrote a little something about this film for letterboxd, that i will now reproduce here.

somehow, against all odds, the definitive word on this subject, on a subject that resists ever having a definitive word said on it. the slender man epilogues. the patching up of the psychic wound

where do you go, as a community, from the stabbing? everymanhybrid slowly ambled its way to a conclusion that really had nothing to do with the big guy anymore, and all the power to it - tribetwelve and its creator fizzled out of existence immediately when he was accused of, and admitted to, various breaches of consent. (he now works as an optometrist.) darkharvest … did end fairly recently actually, so who knows what's up with that. i assume nobody is doing blogs anymore, since nobody would know they exist or how to find them - with the exception, of course, of jordan dooling, who will never stop

but, like, more than just confronting a real-world traumatic event… it was also proof that the community had been outmoded. the psychic core of slender man simply did not exist within the circles of independent filmmakers and amateur writers that built it up, it existed within a dubious network of junk data, of the rumors of children in comment sections and iphone videos. adam rosner's slick editing work has nothing on the fact that slender man apparently owns a mansion now. obviously in any adult interpretation he doesn't, but in real life, he has to, because the people who think he has a mansion were the people who were actually being affected by him in real life. clearly their interpretation is the most potent one

by the time this happened, even "the slender man is a tulpa and thus all artworks self-reflect him onto reality" had become too obvious an interpretation. the ability to point to cases like these and say, see, he's growing in power like we always said! were still ultimately dead ends. because he was growing in power, but you can't redirect it onto an eraserhead-inspired amateur youtube series, because it's a different kind of horror now. it's a horror that does not grow a fiction but dissipates it, makes it impossible to find a way to continue it. it's a horror that grows around a fiction, rendering all of it futile. one must imagine slender man happy

and that's the only real way out, isn't it? as a child, i thought any sympathetic interpretations of the slender man were going to take away the anonymous unknowable menace of the simple potent image of "the childhood friend who wasn't quite human". i couldn't entertain them. he was a lovecraftian, absurdist horror - not "slenderman", but "the slender man". he was the upsetting memory you can't quite remember, the troubling presence in your childhood. i wanted to preserve this interpretation, tinged with an adult menace that i couldn't actually understand yet

but as time goes on, i've become more and more resistant to the idea that he kills anyone. he certainly doesn't directly kill anyone in marble hornets et al. other people do the killing in reaction to him, in proxymity to him, they are driven against eachother because they cannot understand the frightening situation they are in. video games like slender can simulate the part where you run away, but they give the wrong idea, as if these stories are at any point ABOUT that part - that they are about a guy Who Gets You. a boogeyman, a slasher villain. someone who might want you to sacrifice someone to him

no, in the end, the sympathetic interpretation is the proper one - that is to say, the ONLY possible one, the only way to ever end this story. (certainly injuring him didn't work, when the bloggers tried that.) the healing of the wound is to accept that the slender man never meant anyone harm. the healing of the wound is to let him go - not as a failed creepypasta, an embarrassing and regrettable part of internet history, but as our childhood imaginary friend who was vital to our growth. he was with us every step of the way - in our photos, our tapes. he really was always watching

The answer to the first question is probably obvious. Paxter and Emily. But of the two, I like Paxter better. He is a very interesting character in terms of development and I want to describe him from the best side in the reboot of Lonely Darkness

Actually, a lot of things inspired me to do this. First I met the comic and the author @wood-tribetwelve and started my own TikTok. Then I found out about other Slenderverse series. And already on TikTok I found information about younger series in this universe. In particular, I was inspired by the project @fishymom-art . This helped me become a little bolder and create Lonely Darkness,although initially there was no script at all

ughhhhhh im so upset all of my creepypasta posts are on my old blog grrrr GRRRRRRRRRRRR Marble hornets was immensely important to the development of slenderman lore within the creepypasta fandom- but a few aspects that exist within the like slendermansion subsect of fans (because it is important to separate transformative and curative fans, as well as the differences in creepypasta stories: written as a scary story but not with the fandom in mind however it fits the rules of a creepypasta, written as a scary story inspired by and meant to be a creepypasta, written to create a character for the fandom, written after a creepypasta lull- generally not as stringent to the rules of what would create a creepypasta, and things that weren't created as a creepypasta but which get looped in for one reason or another) where created outside of marble hornets. Proxies for example I believe are most related to tribetwelve- though i have a lot of rewatching to do when it comes to any non marble hornets slenderseries. anyway i dont have much to say here... but i want to go through all of the big series and see what degrees of impact they had on varying parts of the fandom. i think it would be very fun :). But I do find it interesting how the concept of creepypasta really does function as modern folklore. The only reason it is often discredited as such is due to the fact that we can easily trace it's origins. I also kinda want to go through and make more difinitive groupings for types of creepypasta and examples for each. Because there is a huge difference between different genres and different intentions.

A Statement Regarding Allegations Concerning Adam Rosner, Creator of TribeTwelve

Though I would like to ring in the New Year on the channel with much more pleasant business, there is a matter left over from last year that must be addressed. There is now undeniable regret surrounding what used to be a tentpole of the channel and its early days in light of all that has been alleged concerning TribeTwelve's creator, Adam Rosner (Noah Maxwell). I have created a Twitlonger here regarding the allegations, my feelings about them, and my personal experience during Adam's departure, which lends credence to an observable pattern of behavior within the allegations:

I always maintain that art must be considered aside from artist, especially because there is seldom great work done entirely alone, and a destruction or rejection of the work can disenfranchise and harm the innocent who took part in its creation. This is obviously a difficult thing to do with some art that exists, as quite often, we encounter work that revolves entirely around the central creative figure or is a direct relation to them and their life experience. However hideous a side of the artist, it is also a fact (however uncomfortable in the light of who they were at their worst) that good and even important work may have been crafted by their hand and the more exceptional and admirable parts of their heart and mind, and while we cannot disregard the evil or wrongdoing, be it within the work or the person responsible for it, we cannot ignore what is good and what is of quality as result of their effort and what it may have granted those who received it or sat in audience. TribeTwelve has always been, in my eyes and the eyes of many creators and viewers, a critically important unfiction project that has inspired countless creative people and informed the work of those who have come to the field after. It is also, itself, a project worthy of high praise on several points, though certainly not above criticism in others. TribeTwelve is a historical piece of our field and one of its main first branches, the Slenderverse--the third of the Big Three and one of the most impactful of the subgenre's stories. And yet, Adam Rosner is Noah Maxwell. He is TribeTwelve's writer and creator, its mastermind, its majority editor and contributor. And it was the grand yield of his project, the fame and status it brought him, which enabled him to prey on underaged girls and those closest to him. It is painful to look at any image of TribeTwelve and see Noah Maxwell when his face is Adam Rosner's. No makeup, no costume to even help differentiate character from actor. And the fruits of the labor, behind the scenes, resulted in what we now know. And those were Adam's decisions to make--not the audience's or those who helped make TribeTwelve aside from Adam. It is unfair, both to you as audience and the innocent contributors to TribeTwelve and its related media (the Archives, the Wiki, its fandom), to remove coverage of the project on the channel and eclipse it as if it never existed, especially those innocents who were harmed by Adam in the end as allegations came out. They have already lost plenty and been hurt by it; I cannot in good conscience obliterate TribeTwelve from the channel and hurt them more by erasing the good they did. The existence of material containing Adam on the channel will also bear with it a disclaimer containing the Twitlonger, and I feel the videos must also stand, with their disclaimers, for this reason: You must not ever forget what happened here, both as a creator and as a viewer who wishes you could get close to your favorite creators. Don't you dare proceed throughout life as a creative hopeful or eager fan without remembering TribeTwelve. This has become, very unfortunately, a cautionary tale and a tragedy that we need to carry with us--to remind us, to keep us, and to help us be better and stay better. And as a final statement, I will borrow some words from one of the best people to escape Adam's circle and who has done incredible work and showed enduring kindness for all affected by these allegations and the resulting fallout: "Don’t be discouraged. Make your art. Make something better than he or I ever could. Don’t let him take this from you." Thank you, and after all of this and despite it, please have a very happy New Year.
