Well, that's more like it! Scary movie for today was a rewatch of 2009's psycho-horror/sorta-slasher Triangle, written and directed by Christopher Smith, starring Melissa George.

Jess, the stressed-out single parent of an autistic son, takes an afternoon cruise with a new romantic interest, Greg (Michael Dorman), and some of his friends, on his sailboat (they keep calling it a "yacht" but it's just a slightly-big sailboat). The friends are a married couple, a woman they want to fix up Greg with, and "an 18-year-old boy" named Victor, played by a clearly not 18-year-old Hemsworth with grapefruits for biceps. Remember on The Good Place when Tahani settled for Larry Hemsworth, the least attractive Hemsworth brother, who is not only a doctor for orphans but also quite handsome?? So funny. Anyway, Triangle has a Hemsworth.

I'm not sure why this movie full of Kiwi and Aussie actors and made by an Australian, in Australia, is set in Florida and everyone uses (mostly-passable) American accents. Maybe because the titular Triangle is meant to be the Bermuda Triangle? But bruh, you can put a Triangle anywhere, in any ocean. If we believe any given Triangle exists, we'll probably also accept that many Triangles exist. Anyway, the accents are only mildly distracting in that way that you for sure know one of them is not American, and suspect most of the rest of them also aren't, but it's fine.

On this sailboat/yacht trip, weird stuff happens! First the wind dies suddenly, all at once. While radio-ing the Coast Guard, Greg hears a woman crying for help who can't seem to hear him when he replies. A very odd looking, hyperlocal but massive storm capsizes the boat. An oldy-fashionedy cruise ship suddenly appears out of the fog, and while they spy at least one person on a high deck, the ship appears to be abandoned once the friends board.

I won't spoil this film, except to say that yes, that oldy-fashionedy cruise ship that rescues our heroes is Not of This Time. Jess must solve an ongoing. . .some might say looping. . .puzzle in order to save herself and find her way back to her son. ("Maybe that's true in your world," says Greg at one point, and Jess replies, "My world is at school, waiting for his mother to pick him up." It's so delicious and made me love her.)

If you love a thriller and can stand some blood along the way (gunshot wounds, bonks on the head with heavy implements), this movie is such a fun watch. I really can't recommend it enough. I loved it the first time I saw it, and I loved it again today. It's on Prime with a long reel of ads before it plays, or on Tubi with ad breaks.

#Watching TRIANGLE

For about half an hour, the movie feels like it's going to float on a gimmick and for the most part it does, but because it's so well made, you don't care and just enjoy the movie gimmick or not.

There are some indelible images that don't rely exclusively on gore.

The story forces you to pay attention more than you usually do in movies like this.

A movie that works better the second time around, but it works pretty well the first time especially if you go in cold.

Some of the acting is pretty raw and you can see the limits of the FX budget but they only take you out of the movie temporarily.

The best movie named Triangle from 2009.

Liam Hemsworth is in this before he played second brother to that other Hemsworth.

Watching the X-Men: First Class documentary and omg they’re literally saying Charles and Erik were a “tragic romance” and Moira’s bigger role in the earlier script drafts would’ve created more of a “love triangle” and omg this is actually real, the filmmakers actually said it, you guys there is no more room for debate here, it’s all canon.

LMFAOOO this is a stupid thought I had but the recent wave of "Logan shows the X-men he's moved on and they realize how they've treated him" fanfiction reminds me of those "Peter Parker takes a Field Trip to Stark Industries" fanfics. Like exact same setup, except instead of Peter showing off to his highschool class that he's an intern and Iron Man's "son" we have Logan showing off to his ex teammates how he's capable of being tender and settling down with Wade as his "husband." ...We've come full circle.

Exploring the idea of Euclideans going through moults. I think I kind of love it. I imagine it's utterly humiliating for a proud guy like Bill to be looking so ridiculous (and with his shape so uneven!!) so extra angst potential too

But, y'know, had to add his boyfriend being endeared by his ugly-cuteness and squish. I always love petting my snake after she sheds, her colors get so vibrant too :]c
