The only difference is that they're actively dead/dying and seemingly reunited across timelines (somehow????) and there's a dash of unsettling CGI. i'm just going to go ahead and make this its own post. when kirk teases spock he is SO GENTLE. "why mister spock are you feeling emotion?" and he lets spock do the vulcan equivalent of giggling and kicking his feet and going "haha nooo silly i'm a VULCAN i don't do that!!" and kirk's like "oh my apologies mister spock of COURSE not" and then they make consensual loving eyecontact with one another while smiling. when BONES senses blood in the water (spock having an emotion) he will grab spock by the scruff of his fucking neck and shake until dead. like a dog with a squirrel.

bones is so interesting. when we first meet him in aos on the way to the academy he's a mess. he wanted to sit in a windowless room on the shuttle and hates space. he's been left with nothing but his bones, he tells kirk he might puke on him from the flight.

cut to three years later they've gone through the academy, he injects kirk it a vaccine to make him sick to sneak him on to the enterprise. he gleefully looks out the window and points at things, where as kirk is now telling him he's going to puke on him.
