I'm having similar conversations with a lot of people because I'm starting to attend an Orthodox shul and a lot of people are very well meaning but confused.

Last week I finally sat down with the rabbi and was going over my gender journey. I said that for a time I felt like I was gender fluid, and the rabbi asked if that was like being attracted to anyone regardless of their gender. I said that he was actually describing pansexuality, or bisexuality which kinda overlap, but didn't go into too many details because that's a whole can of worms.

It's been an interesting experience. People have been very kind but there's such a lack of knowledge of Queerness that I have to fill in sometimes.

My coworker asked me a question about Queer culture the other day and it was a really good question but I couldn’t think of a polite way to tell them that they didn’t have the foundational knowledge required to support full comprehension of the answer

Queer Jews Project Day 16 - Abby Stein

A direct descendant of the Baal Shem Tov, Abby grew up in a Hasidic community ��� and part of a prominent family. She figured her true self, in part, by reading the Hebrew wikipedia page for transgender. After coming out, she left her community – a journey she described in her memoir, Becoming Eve. The first woman – let alone the first openly transgender woman – to be ordained by an Orthodox institution, Abby has continued to work as a rabbi and an activist.

I normally buy a new dress for Rosh Hashana but wasn't able to this year. Day-of I realized that I hadn't worn this outfit yet so I was able to say Shecheheyanu over some amazing clothes designed by a queer Jew.

This outfit also helped inspire these fun Trans Octopus Rosh Hashana nails. I only had one octopus design which I repeated, and I used a koi fish to emulate the eel and create some texture. Super happy with how they turned out. I may do it again in the future if I get a stamping plate with more sea animal designs.

Help a Disabled Trans Jew Afford Rent & Groceries

I hate to have to keep asking for help, but I’m a few hundred short on rent + groceries again this month, and I still can’t afford to fix my car, so I could really use some assistance.

I’ve been able to do odd jobs & commissions, but I’m still struggling finding more consistent/permanent employment that works with my situation.

Sacha Lamb is the author of When The Angels Left The Old Country. If you haven’t read it, read it now. It’s such a queer jew book! With a lot of queer jews! It’s also their debut novel. They have another book, The Forbidden Book, coming out in the fall. And it promises to be just as jewish and queer.

Went out to goth club last night. Got to use a lipstick that I don't get to wear often which is this beautiful deep metallic brown/green called Metallurgy from Portland Black Lipstick Company. Dress from Nerdy Keppie, @vaspider on tumblr.

Edit: forgot to mention my earrings are from the Women Helping Women Beadwork instagram page. They sell beadwork made by incarcerated indiginous women in Canada and 100% of the profit goes directly back to the incarcerated individuals. Highly recommend checking them out.

Had a great time dancing with my mom, and ended the night by throwing a cup of water in my asshole dad's face. Definitely a good night.
