I was not ready for a trans rights speech in the final Artemis fowl book. (The third book of the fowl twins).
But here we are.

I’m curious about stuff again specifically for people who like to read.
I put both girls and boys just to see if there’s a difference. And if you are trans or genderqueer please do think as to what gender you considered yourself at the age you started reading and not your current chosen gender.

Post-AF canon but before TFT, a well-meaning journalist puts out a piece about prominent figures in tech/tech business who are also transgender. Sadly, after hitting post-to-Twitter, almost immediately a quote-tweet notification hits: Spiro is threatening to sue if the article isn’t amended to put his name before Artemis’ on the list.
The week to follow is one of the most out-of-control “posting through it” moments in the site’s history, as unfortunately Butler is not able to stop Artemis from creating an account in service of merely writing “die” in all lowercase to Spiro’s tweet, before Artemis closes the site, never to log in again.
The article is quietly taken down.

Inspired by a post by @ionlymadethissoicouldleaveanask on Discord
(Artemis undercover at a house party) He’s panicking almost immediately so they have to send Minerva in to protect him with her slightly more extroverted powers.
"This is hell. Hell."
A familiar voice, a good 10 cm taller than her ear, chuckled, and Artemis realized she had said it out aloud. Although it didn't made that much of a difference. She could've screamed it, and it would've been lost among the music. And she was using the term in its broader (broadest) acceptation. A succession of notes. And even that was debatable.
She considered her options, and there were none. The voice belonged to the arm keeping her in place. And Minerva was both stronger and faster than her. Which was probably the reason she had been paired with her. Without considering the French girl's influence over her, of course.
"Remind me", she hissed. "Why are we even doing this?"
Minerva grinned: "Me, Holly asked nicely. You, I honestly have no idea."
Despite everything, Artemis grinned back: "The same, I guess."
"I'm not liking this any more than you do, you know."
Artemis glanced at her. Minerva was wearing a crop top that hanged from one shoulder and left her stomach bare. Her long legs were squeezed within a pair of torn jeans that hugged her backside closely. All she needed was a cap and she could've been in a biker gang. Been the leader of that gang, because Minerva wouldn't have been satisfied with any less.
"It doesn't look like so."
"That", she grinned again, "it's because I'm actually good at pretending."
"I hope you don't use this skill in other contexts", mumbled Artemis.
Another chuckle was her only answer.
"So, I know it's a bit late for this, but would you mind telling me what's awaiting for us?"
"What degree do you want me to steer away from truth?", winked Minerva.
"I think it's a bit late to glide this in gold. Go on."
"The music, you've already heard it. People are actually trying to dance it, believe it or not. Those that are not, are swallowing drinks of unplausible colours or vomiting said drinks in the bathrooms. Or copulating in the bathrooms."
Artemis looked sightly Ill.
"Artemis." Minerva's arm around her shoulders squeezed the smaller girl a bit tighter. "As long as you stay glued to me, I promise you nothing wrong will happen."
"How did they even think we might be able to investigate in these conditions?", mumbled Artemis.
Minerva shrugged: "We're genii. Somehow, we'll manage. Come on, Artemis. I know why you are so displeased."
"I hate this", she confessed, but this time it was not the music or the party. It was that she was wearing a frilly shirt and an even frillier dress, that there was a lace flower clasped to her hair and black Mary Janes at her feet. The problem was not that Artemis hated this. Quite the opposite.
"Why have I to dress as I like in situations I hate, and yet I'm not able to do so in those I love?"
"Social norms", sighed Minerva. It was not the first time they had this chat. "Move to Geneva with me."
Artemis raised an eyebrow: "Eloping as the solution to all of life's problems?"
"Yes. There you'll have a work. You'll be respected. You'll not have to go to a school you hate."
Artemis smirked: "As I said before, I'll think about it. It's tempting, I admit it." She frowned: "Would you mind finding me something to drink? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with these... beverages."
Minerva chuckled and scanned the table: "Of course. This should be good for you, oui? It's produced from the juice of Citrus myrtifolia. Not the brand I would've liked, but alas, we have to work with what we have."
Artemis took a tentative sip: "Not so good. Yet not so bad."
Minerva laughed: "As this evening will be, as long as we are together. Shall we go?"
Artemis emptied the paper glass, then put it aside: "Let's do this. The sooner we start, the sooner we finish."

jk rowling: wrote a childrens book series in the 2000s about a society of outcasts, which attracted a lot of queer fans because of its themes on acceptance. comes out as transphobic, tweets out "merry terfmas 😘," and proceeds to write a crime novel about a man who disguises himself as a woman to kill people
eoin colfer: wrote a childrens book series in the 2000s that he describes as "die hard but with fairies," which attracted a lot of queer fans because he accidentally gave his male protagonist a feminine name. is confused but supportive of his largely queer fanbase, leaves nice comments on trans artemis fanart, and proceeds to have one of the protagonists in the sequel series marry a ghost princess inhabiting the clone body of her evil uncle, which when she asks if its weird, the protagonist responds with “Maybe people would think you strange back in the olden days, but kids these days don’t care about stuff like insides and outsides matching”
