yknow i dont love the "youre getting gender affirming surgeries? youre amputating HEALTHY BODY PARTS. what if someone just wanted to cut off their leg?" mostly because in my time working in hospitals, i actually did meet a man who did have an elective amputation of his leg while i worked in the hospital (im a healthcare worker when im not busy being trans online btw)

i cant give any information on him due to HIPAA and i think thatd be disrespectful anyway, but it was over a year ago i worked there. and sometimes in hospitals you have "regulars." which sucked; all my regulars were lovely people and i wish they werent in the hospital

regardless, there was a man there who was over 70, and one day i ask him what hes there for, and he tells me why. since hes gotten his knee replacement surgery some time ago, it keeps getting infected. he told me they keep trying to fix it but it keeps coming back. and he tells me he wants an amputation

he says hes reaching the end of his life, and if this is what it took to have a good quality of life so close to the end, hed do it. he didnt want to he in the hospital anymore. he said the nurses and doctors keep trying to talk him out of it, but this is what he wants

before anyone mentions, no, this is not a "crazy person" who is "getting an amputation because he wants to be disabled." he was probably autistic but clearly very mentally stable, he was depressed about being a frequent flier obviously. but this is an elective surgery. under no definition was this medically necessary. he didnt have a tumor, he didnt have cancer, he wasnt going to lose the leg unless he amputated it. he wanted it amputated largely because it would drastically improve the quality of his life

ive been thinking about him a lot since ive been going about the process of getting my gender affirming surgeries later this year. all things considered, he wouldve had more of a chance of having his ailment cured without amputation than i ever will having my gender dysphoria "cured" without surgery. if anything, i hope yall who make this argument understand that there are real people who may choose to get an amputation, and they dont HAVE to be "mentally unstable" to do it. neither of us are or were

and for anyone who cares, one day he greeted me from his bed with a big smile on his face saying he got an amputation, and i never saw him again at the hospital after that

The Skrill just would not listen to him. It doesn’t matter the amount of “enhancers” they put in him or the gene-bending drugs they pump his body full with, she just won’t listen to him.

Hiccup has crawled into the Safety Box, a contraption built into the Skrill’s den for him to hide in whenever another attempt goes wrong. The door is metal and no matter the amount of banging and scratching, she can’t get in. Luckily, due to the thin layer of water at the box’s door, she can’t electrocute him either.

Huddled in the small box, Hiccup sobs. His hands are still wrapped around the lever he pulled to close it. He’s bathed in darkness, with bars in the door allowing slivers of light inside. Looking down, he spots his left leg.

Or what’s become of it.

His sobs grow louder and his trembling worse. Just before he got inside, the Skrill tried one last time to bite down on him and her teeth raked across his left leg. Removing his boot, but not his sock, and degloving a portion of the lower limb. The sight is horrifying, he can see a sliver of bone. It makes him want to scream and throw up at the same time.

“Mom!” He cries out, searches for the intercom. “Mom, please! I need help! Mom!”

He wants his dad.

Outside of the Skrill’s containment chamber, Valka watches from the observation deck and listens to her son’s pleas.

How many times? How many more times does she have to try to get that dragon to comply with them? She would not listen to her and neither does she want to listen to Hiccup, despite all the changes made to him. Does the dragon not realize she wants to help?

Her fists clenching, Valka feels a fury she’s well familiar with. All this work and for what? How can she save dragons if she can’t even save this one?

Next to her, a woman hesitantly turns in her seat.

“Uh, ma’am?” Minden addresses her. “Hiccup needs serious medical attention.”

Valka is quick to rush over and sees the state of his leg on the screen. There’s a camera in the Safety Box. Blood is everywhere.

“Get him out. Now!” She orders and Minden is quick to leave.

When Hiccup wakes up hours later in a hospital bed, it’s with a sick feeling to his stomach. Hospitals frighten him after the months he’s spend in his mother’s care.

He looks down on himself again, still drowsy and body heavy. But he manages to pull the blankets away, filled with fear, and notices that his injured leg is simply gone. They didn’t save it.

His strength leaving him, he drops his head back down and cries.

Oh, and for those wondering: The shapes next to the characters are the main shapes I draw them with! Gordon is all squares, while Coomer is all circles, for example. They're all shaped and it's my favorite thing :)

It wasnt with any instance in mind specifically but i have seen some great mhyk cisbends actually. And i love the idea of fem arthur! I hadnt considered faust or heathcliffe but im on board now! I saw a tweet once that said mithra should grow boobs in tiletta's honor and i support that... i suppose the post was made with enstars in mind cuz ive been thinking about cis girl izumi lately (he's nonbinary to me in canon but i think his rship with his mom in portrait wouldve been sooo interesting with the added layer of daughters turning into their mothers... im also fond of hetbending loiz but for it to be no different whatsoever from their canon rship. But i also think iz-mk-lo would be interesting had they All been girls...)

But i also think transgenderism in wizard world would be interesting to explore, not just imagining what if they had been cis girls. I wonder if trans humans resent wizards for having the ability to transform themselves... or if, like with curseworkers or doctors, there are wizards who specialize in giving humans hrt potions and surgeries. In a world where murr was into medicine he wouldve brought hrt to humans so they wouldnt have to rely on wizards...

mithra SHOULD have boobs in tiletta's honor tbh. In my mind, cisbent mithra would go from wearing no bras because she dgaf to wearing pushup bras as a way to carry on tiletta's legacy.

And now onto wizard genders: we do know of a few wizards with funky gender in canon. They can use magic to shapeshift after all. Here are a few i can think of at the top of my head. Spoilers for ms2 for everyone else but i'm sure you don't mind lol

Figaro mentions having a friend that is born a wizard, shapeshifted into a witch and stayed like that, even ended up carrying a baby to term and giving birth

There's a western witch who presents exclusively as a wizard in front of humans in ms2. I never even thought about how human-wizard dynamics might affect genderfluidity but that sure is interesting

Rustica has been a transguy to me since reading ms2. Idk if i am the only one interpreting it as that but i swear there's a part i read as him having been a western princess. Because of that i like to imagine/headcanon chloe is also a trans guy and kept the feminine name rustica style.
