A few years ago Andrew never would have let Neil get away with this, but that was then and this is now, and Andrew's coming to terms with the idea that Yes is always yes unless I say no. So he takes the handcuffs Neil gives him and pushes Neil down. Andrew's questions can wait until tomorrow; what matters right now is that sick gleam in Neil's eyes that looks a little too much like Nathaniel.

I hope that people understand when I saw I hc that Neil Josten is trans, I mean that this man thought it was the best disguise to dress up like a boy to hide from his father, maybe it had even originally been Mary's idea. and then maybe one day it wasn't just a disguise anymore, it wasn't just a safety blanket. Neil was real, Neil was the realest he'd ever felt. and maybe he'd been foolish enough to think that it would change the way Andrew saw him, or he had been naive enough to let it become so real. but the people he'd been before Neil didn't matter anymore, what mattered was the life he'd built for himself. What mattered was Neil Josten.
