Writing Flaws

Yesterday I posted a list of random flaws to give your characters. Today, I'm posting a few tips about writing flaws :) Enjoy

Give your character a few. Everyone has multiple flaws and it's important when writing realistic characters to keep this in mind. Also remember; some are going to be more prominent or visible than others.

Give importance to their flaws. Whether their flaw of being nosy leads them into trouble or a new part of the story, make the flaws count. You don't have to incorporate all of them, or even one for each character, but make the flaws progress. This also helps if you get stuck writing. Another way to make them important is to have a character arc, simple but effective. Remember, it takes time to get out of old habits so even if the character grows they will likely retain bits of their old personality. It also keeps it interesting

Be consistent. Pretty easy to explain, if your character is dogmatic, don't allow them to be all accepting of a new ideology just to make writing easier.

Don't forget the little things. Apply their flaw to small parts of the story, this makes it more believeable and more interesting to read.

Well, everyone, my first Simblr. Story is, I was obsessed with all four Sims games for at least some period of my life. But a few months ago... I came home to the one...the only...Sims 2. Writing Notes: Character Traits (Virtues)

When describing someone, we often describe the virtues or values they exhibit, which are aligned to their character.

Virtues - positive personal strengths and behaviors that demonstrate an individual’s moral standards.

Can be considered the foundation of character and can be categorized as moral virtues, civic virtues, intellectual virtues, or performance virtues.

Types of Virtues

INTELLECTUAL VIRTUES

Can be considered habits of mind, enabling individuals to become critical thinkers who ask the right questions and seek answers from evidence-based resources.

These virtues support discernment, right action and the pursuit of knowledge while enabling problem-solving.

MORAL VIRTUES

Can be considered habits of the heart.

Moral character guides decision making from multiple perspectives allowing individuals to evaluate situations and respond in a meaningful and responsible manner that keeps the betterment of society and all stakeholders in the forefront.

These virtues guide social connections and ethical decision making.

CIVIC VIRTUES

Can be considered habits of service.

Civic character supports a collaborative approach to solving systemic problems to contribute to the well-being of others and serve the public good.

These virtues ultimately support citizenship and community.

PERFORMANCE VIRTUES

Can be considered habits of action and will, enabling us to marry the quality of our actions to the strength of our convictions.

These virtues equip and enable one to navigate life and uncertainty for success.

Performance virtues are informed by intellectual, moral, and civic virtues.

In collaboration, the virtue types allow individuals space to develop a deeper sense of virtuous behavior and growth through personal experiences and reflection when the virtues collide, known as practical wisdom, furthering our good sense.

Sim Characteristics Overhaul

👥 This brings New Sim Characteristics and overrides how EA's Sim Characteristics are impacted by traits from the Growing Together pack.

Extra Custom Characteristics of Occults, Fame, Reputation, Extroverted, Flirtatious, and Truthful Sims. The "Original" version adjusts how much each trait impacts characteristics, and added my custom traits and some missing EA traits, lifestyles, and preferences The "Conflict Overhaul" version includes all the above PLUS removes some strange conflict choices by EA. This removes conflicts between Creative & Genius in Cerebral Sims & Idealist Sims, removes Lazy from Nature Enthusiasts, Evil from Pet Enthusiasts, Cheerful from Egotistical Sims, etc. It is not a requirement to use this mod with my custom traits, but Sim Characteristics are now also impacted by the following traits pack if you installed them:

Color Trait Enabled Writing Quills

THIS IS A DEFAULT REPLACEMENT

Blatantly inspired by @episims who just made a pen one. We don't use pens in Medieval Fantasy Kitchen Sink Land, so I made one for colored feather quills instead! Sims with a color trait in their inventory will pick the corresponding quill. Works for doing homework, university assignments, writing a diary, filling crosswords, drafting, and restocking. With no traits in inventory sims will use the White Quill.

Based off on the DR done by Sunni which I recolored at one time, I've expanded the color selection and enabled them to work with @episims Color Traits. So you'll need those for this to work. You'll also need the usual trait mods such as Easy Inventory Check and trait_MAIN, which I assume you already have.

Since this file is based on episims' own, that means that you no longer need the Menaceman44's diary pen fix and it also works with their updated simlogical school files. See their post for more details on that.

5 New Traits!

Besides the 4 new Difficulty Settings, I'll also be adding 5 new Traits:

☁️ Goldilocks Temperament: Gain EXP from Sensible choices

🙏 Alone Together: Gain EXP from Outgoing choices

🌺 Rapunzel Hair: +10% Charm, +10% Healing Received, -10% Grace

🌱 Green Thumb: Gain +100% EXP from gardening choices

🥀 Black Thumb: Gain +300% EXP from gardening choices

Well, the first three are already existing variables so they're not exactly "new", but I wanted to give a label to them anyway so it appears in your stats screen:

[Goldilocks Temperament] is the neutral emotional trait between [Emotionally Sensitive] and [Unflappable]

[Alone Together] is the trait you get if you don't pick any bestfriend

[Rapunzel Hair] is exclusive to MCs with [Fairytale Heritage]

And here is the new choice in Chapter 3 where you can get the Green/Black Thumb choice:

The first three choices also give some Knowledge points! To be honest, I don't see the Green/Black Thumb Traits becoming relevant very often, but that's actually why I'm fine with adding them. It's also just weird that MC's house has plenty of plants, and there aren't any choices about it.

Oh and speaking of traits, you'll finally be able to have both braces and the [Sweet Tooth] Trait next update!

I'm also changing the names of the Enneagram Traits so it reflects more of the character development aspects:

That's probably gonna be the last set of traits I'm gonna add, but no promises. 😅 If I do add more it's probably to already existing variables, but at this point I've covered everything that I can think of that might be relevant in the story.
