Fionna & Cake GolBetty theory(s)

I theorize GolBetty might be the reason Fionna and Cake are de-magic-ing stuff when they get really emotional.

Though there's some bonus extra GolBetty theorizing after the primary theory. Just so you know.

Like specifically due to GolBetty and Original Golb (OG). With the important thing to consider of madness and magic being connected in the adventure time universe.

It's why the Crown drives anyone who wears it crazy, why wizards are just about all some kind of nuts, and why Betty similarly became her own kind of crazy upon getting Magic Man's magic.

Magic = Madness, the more magic you have the more insane you are. With the only observed exceptions to this rule being god-like beings, like Prismo, Cosmic Owl, etc, and not even that is a hard and fast rule.

GolBetty is actually actively doing it to protect Simon

Okay, so the Fionna & Cake universe was already in Ice King's head when he was digested by OG back into no-magic Simon. So we can assume that that is when Fionna & Cake's world was stripped of it's magic.

[I'm guessing the only reason why Fionna & Cake's entire universe wasn't digested along with the magic (as Simon wasn't Simon when Fionna & Cake was stored in his brain, but Ice King), even though OG digesting stuff resets it back to an earlier point in it's history. Is because Fionna & Cake is also tied to Prismo, who exists outside of time.

So their universe probably would have survived even if Simon kept reverting. Right up until he ceased to exist, and there was no physical brain to store them in anymore.

Though I've also heard that Golb digests things back to their most essential state, but if that was it why was there a rush for them all to get out of Golb's stomach? So I'm pretty sure getting re-wound into nothing was what was going to happen if they stayed.]

After Simon is digested back to being just Simon, and Betty is digested back to being Betty, and the Ice Crown is reverted to the Wishing Crown. That's when Betty makes her own wish, using the reset Wishing Crown, and merges with Original Golb, turning the two of them into one being. GolBetty.

Simon is now in someway tied to GolBetty, because Betty's wish was to have the power to protect Simon. With (at least) a subconscious focus on him being the Ice King (because from what Betty had seen and experienced in Ooo, being the Ice King was the biggest danger to Simon). So I'm guessing that GolBetty just has a kind of permanent drain on any magic that comes into contact with Simon's mind, to keep him from turning back into Ice King, or some other insane wizard.

After all, if she can just eat any magic that touches Simon's mind before it can affect him, he'll always be safe and protected from magic's influence.

Problem is, Fionna and Cake are native to Simon's mind. It's where their universe was created, and where it will forever be contained unless something changes that. They're extensions of Simon even if none of them really think about it that way (this is also why what's going on with Marshal and Garry tend to mirror, or be influenced, what's happening with Simon, Fionna and Cake in the outside world).

So they're both tied to GolBetty through Simon.

Whenever one of them interacts with something magical and experiences a powerful emotional response. GolBetty is sensing that as if part of Simon's mind is coming into contact with something magical and having a weird abnormal feelings as a result. So GolBetty responds by getting rid of the magic before it can infect Simon and have insanity set in.

Because it's only when Fionna and Cake are really emotional that they're turning magic objects into non-magic objects. So I'm guessing that GolBetty is just sensing Simon's brain coming into contact with something magical, having a powerful abnormal emotional response to it, and assuming it's magic-madness trying to take root.

After all, Ice King was prone to euphoric highs and depressing lows. So an extremely positive emotion, like Cake when fighting the hot dog guy, or Fionna getting to kiss someone so similar to the Ice Prince of her dreams, and extremely negative emotions, like Cake seeing B-MO die. Are equally just perceived as unusual outliers in Simon's mood/mental state, and thus the onset of madness.

So GolBetty responds by turning on the drain and just sucking the magic of whatever magical thing Fionna or Cake is touching in that instance. Just turn on the entropy and age the magic right out of existence.

Fionna and Cake were "Given Life" by GolBetty's power and are thus beings of Entropy

Though things becoming de-magicked when touched by Fionna and Cake, could be way less intentional on GolBetty's part. And the reason Fionna and Cake keep sucking the magic out of things is that they made that great dimensional leap to the rest of the multiverse due to Simon trying to connect with GolBetty. The God of Entropy.

Before Simon's attempted ritual, they didn't exist anywhere but inside Simon's subconsious, even if they were originally created and placed there by Primso. So they weren't technically real/alive within the greater multiverse. Meaning they only "gain life" upon leaving Simon's mind to join the rest of reality.

So they've (technically) been given life by the God of Entropy. Which would also kind of explain why they completely throw whatever world they go into out of wack in some way. Changing them from their original, wished for, state, for better or worse.

Entropy is chaos as well as destruction after all. And they've thrown every world they've passed through out of their intended natural order.

Even if the order of that world was technically negative like Winter King's. They still by the nature of interfering, destroyed the natural equilibrium that world had originally come to.

So if GolBetty is what gave them life as far as the greater multiverse is concerned, then it makes sense why they're spreading choas and destruction everywhere they go even if they don't mean to.

More GolBetty

I'm honestly not entirely sure how GolBetty is going to react to meeting Fionna & Cake in the actual show. Which I can only assume is going to happen at some point.

Like or or not, GolBetty is their antagonist. The reason why their world doesn't have magic anymore, and the biggest obstical to getting said magic back, even with beetle dude running around trying to kill them, even if they don't know it.

She is Fionna & Cake's biggest enemy if GolBetty still has Betty's mind.

Them and their desire for their universe to have magic again is the biggest reason as to why Simon is actually trying to become the Ice King again. Something that at one point, Simon once told Betty, to her face, was something he considered a fate worse than death.

Literally. In the episode where Betty jumps through the Hambo-time-portal, Simon begs, he begs Betty to just let him die as Simon Petrikov rather than try and fix the Ice Crown and make him go back to being the Ice King.

No matter how much or how little GolBetty actually remembers about being Betty on a conscious level, the wish that merged Golb with a mortal woman literally changed all reality. Because Golb is a being that exists outside of any specific timeline the same way Prismo does, there's only one Golb, and that's GolBetty now.

Like of all of the higher powers of the Adventure TIme Multiverse you don't want to mess with, GolBetty should be at the top of your list.

She is the primal embodiment of chaos. And after going from Golb to GolBetty it's entirely possible she's now capable of rational thought and things like actual anger rather than being the unthinking primordial force of nature Golb was originally.

Honestly I could see GolBetty just thanos snapping Fionna and Cake's world right out of Simon's head if she thought that would be the solution to Simon wanting to be Ice King again.

I don't think that's what's going to happen, because that would just make everything worse, and I don't think Adventure Time is that kind of cynical show no matter how dark it gets sometime, especially in Fionna & Cake.

Like I honestly think that would push Simon from "I want to be Ice King again" to actively suicidal, because his wife just ended an entire reality in order to keep him the sad mortal man that he is than let him return to being Ice King, and Prismo would also fall into an even deeper depression as well.

But I could definitely see it getting brought up as a possible solution by GolBetty. If GolBetty kept Betty's mind and active consciousness when the merge happened.

It could also be entirely possible that the Betty that Simon is so desperately trying to go back to just doesn't exist anymore. That much like how magic is tied to madness, it's just not possible to become the embodiment of the end of all things and retain sentience.

Which is something I don't see a lot of people talking about. The potential of GolBetty only being influenced by Betty's last mortal thoughts and that Betty isn't actually actively conscious inside the amalgamation of GolBetty.

Like how the Ice King is Simon Petrikov deep down, and how Ice King acts is influenced by Simon's personality. But it's filtered through original Gunther's Wish to be Evergreen, Gunther's memories, Sveinn's memories (random viking guy), original Santa's memories, and the general madness that afflicts anyone who's an extremely powerful magician but not a god or elemental.

GolBetty is Betty, but is also the primordial embodiment of entropy of all things across all of the multiverse. She doesn't really do anything but sit in her void of nothing. Waiting for self destructive idiots to summon her to their reality so she can also cause the heat death of that specific universe, and for the end of everything across all timelines. Is she even capable of thinking in a way a human is at this point?

I don't think this would be the ending either, but there's a real possibility of Simon managing to reach GolBetty, only to find that the Betty he was so desperately trying to reach just doesn't really exist anymore. At least not in a way he could communicate with.

GolBetty Might Be Dead

I'm not entirely sure if the Golb Simon is trying to contact is GolBetty. It's not GolBetty's face we keep seeing flash on screen, with two cat shaped eyes on top and two round below them, it's four round eyes like Original Golb.

The teeth are also what we see on Original Golb as well. With three incisor teeth between the top canine teeth, while GolBetty has just two incisors between the top canines.

Now which of these two look like the Golb we're seeing in Fionna and Cake? Because that looks far more like original Golb than it does GolBetty to me.

So it's entirely possible that GolBetty has self-reverted due to being the god of entropy, and is back into being just Golb, and that the fusion state of GolBetty was only temporary.

Because we see that most of the wishes Betty tried to make using the Crown didn't work, the crown wasn't strong enough to overcome Golb's power to complete those kinds of wishes, up until wishing that she could keep Simon safe.

The Crown doesn't have the power to overcome Golb directly, it couldn't force Golb to leave that dimension. Betty herself comes to the conclusion that Golb is stronger than the Wishing Crown's magic before making her final wish.

Which could mean that her wish was temporary, which could also explain why Simon can still clearly be injured, and possibly killed. Betty isn't really around to protect Simon anymore.

Heck, it's possible that GolBetty didn't even last that long, just long enough to get out of that dimension and back to the void. Where Golb would forget that dimension entirely due to being an "idiot god" in the writer's words. A more or less non-sentient embodiment of destruction, that doesn't actually think or desire anything.

We don't see GolBetty in any of the Distant Lands episodes set after Come Along With Me either. Come Along With Me is the last time we ever see GolBetty, or at least that design, and we don't get a flash of her in the 1000 year time skip. The last we ever see of her is her leaving that dimension.

So yeah, GolBetty might possibly be dead. And has been dead more or less the entire time after she left the main dimension. Sorry to all you guys who love the God of Entropy Betty x Mortal Male Wife Simon kind of ship dynamic, because it might be even more restricted to fan content than you thought.

until ruby points her out. ruby says "look at her. do you see that woman?" and they do. the perception filter falls away.

and it's beyond their brain's ability to comprehend.

"Stillborn? No, no, still born." -- DPXDC AU

Based off a comment I saw where Bruce knew about Talia's pregnancy in the earlier comivs, and was ecstatic to be a father. So much so that Talia feared he'd give up being Batman for it, so when she gave birth she put the baby (Damian) on a doorstep and (seemingly) told Bruce that the baby was stillborn.

Instead of Damian, that baby was Danny! Meet Daniel Brown, the 14 year old foster kid whose been living with the Fenton family for the last two years. He's about two years older than Damian.

His last name, "Brown", was a generic surname given to him because the note he came with didn't have one on it. It just had the name "Danyal" on it, but albeit 'Daniel' was the one that had been put into the system for, I'll be totally frank here, racism reasons.

(I looked it up to make sure, and it's generally not permissible for foster parents to change the names of their foster kids even if it's a permanent residency, and for that reason Danny doesn't have the last name "Fenton".)

Danny's got ✨~issues!~✨ He's been through a handful of homes growing up, most of them terrible for a variety of reasons. Which has, as a result, left lasting scars. He's generally a very sweet kid, just very distrustful and jumpy. He's got the signs of a kid suffering from PTSD, and a handful of other issues including attachment and insomnia. His inferiority complex could rival Damian's, and that's going to make for an interesting mutual hatred for when they finally meet.

(something I'll get into later)

He still has the blanket he was found in. It's made of a very high quality material and is a beautiful emerald green with little golden thread accents, it's high quality as a result has Danny clinging onto a desperate hope that his bio family might be out there, and the only reason they gave him up was because of some outside factor. It's been taken a few times in old foster homes, and he's flipped out each time.

While he still calls Jack and Maddie by their names, he likes them well enough. The bar isn't that high though, and while they're some of the better foster parents he's had, "better" doesn't equal "safest". Their laboratory malpractice. Basically, C- Fenton Parents. They're negligent by virtue of being engrossed in their work, but they do care equally about Jazz and Danny. So he doesn't hold it against them that much.

He kinda prefers it that way, their loud affection is overwhelming and Danny doesn't know what to do with their attention, even if he craves it. It's a bit of a complicated situation.

They took in Danny because they genuinely wanted another child, but didn't want a big age gap between them and Jazz. It was actually Jack's idea to foster, and they discussed it with Jazz beforehand. She was all for the idea. Thus, a handful of weeks later, a ton of paperwork, and inspection later, and Daniel Brown entered their household with a trash bag in one hand and eyes like shards of stained glass.

His relationship with Jazz is kinda strained, but that's by virtue of her constant psychoanalyzing and helicoptering. Like with the parents, Danny's overwhelmed by the attention and also just, straight up doesn't like the fact that she's telling him that there's something wrong with him. He knows that, thank you. He pushes her away when she does this.

Other than that though? When Jazz isn't smothering him and is acting like an actual sibling and not a third parent, they're pretty close, and Danny really likes her. They've hung out a few times on their own volition, and Jazz showed him how to take better care of his long hair.

His school situation,, pretty similar to canon with the bullying, albeit with a few more instances of him blowing a fuse and lashing out against his attackers. He's a rather angry kid, but it's quiet. It builds up, piles on top of itself, until eventually, like a volcano, it erupts and burns everyone within radius.

Danny's got a fire core, not an ice core. Phantom's hair is made of white magma; thick and heavy, setting itself on fire when his anger runs hot. When he gets angry, his skin begins to char and split open to reveal pulsating lava underneath, and he crackles and pops like a raging forest fire.

I haven't decided yet on how he meets the batfam -- i've got two ideas but they're both in opposition to each other, and drastically alter how the rest of the plot goes. But I do know that him and Damian hate each other in the beginning. And it has nothing to do with inheritance or "being the blood son" -- although their blood relation absolutely plays the major role in their disdain for each other.

Simply put, they're jealous of each other for the same thing: thinking that the other was wanted.

Damian hates Danny because, unlike Damian, Bruce knew about Danny since conception and wanted him from the moment he heard about him. He had a whole nursery set up, and still does. He never took it down -- just locked the door. Damian was thrust upon Bruce without warning, and he feels like he forced himself into the family. And while on some level Damian knows and understands that Bruce wants him and loves him as much as his other children, that doubt and feeling of inferiority still remains. He looks at Danny and sees him with what Damian always feels he needs reaffirmed.

Meanwhile, Danny hates Damian because he looks at him and sees him with everything Danny's ever wanted. He hates him because Damian grew up knowing both of their parents, with one of them for most of his life, and then moved over to the other. There was never a moment where Damian was (seemingly) left to doubt his place within the family. Damian was raised with the very same woman who left Danny on a doorstep, with no clue to his identity beyond a little green blanket and a note with only a first name. Damian was wanted everywhere, and Danny was wanted nowhere. Damian is Danny's replacement in his eyes.

(It's the little revelation that Damian grew up with their mother that elevates Danny from being quietly envious of Damian to downright despising him. What did Damian do, that Danny didn't? He could live with Damian living with Bruce -- Bruce didn't know Danny was even alive. But him living with their mom? Are you fucking kidding him?)

Damian never outright attacks Danny physically, but it's not like he hides that he didn't like Danny. Meanwhile, Danny, in all his repressive anger, quietly despised him from a distance until finally one wrong snide side-comment has him blowing up and it becomes a screaming match. They're both just enough similar to each other that when they look at each other they really just see a mirror.

They'll work it out together, eventually. But it'll be ugly and cruel and explosive, and they'll start mending the bridge to become brothers in more than just blood relation in the end.

But yeah, stillborn Danny has... a lot going for him.

There’s a train that goes through Hell.

Its journey starts in Wrath, and it departs already full of souls. It took Charles far too many years to realize that there were separate, more spacious wagons that demons could board. Not that he could understand why anyone, hellborn or not, would want to get into the damned thing. He certainly hadn’t.

Actually, Charles couldn’t recall ever boarding the train. As far as he could tell, he just appeared there one day, and had spent the next tortuous decades trying to get out. It was part of the torture. Getting out was entirely possible. More than that, it was necessary.

The train had no regular schedule that he could discern (not at first, though he had always been good at finding patterns, and was eventually able to crack it) but it would make quite a few stops before finally returning to the Wrath ring. Souls inside the train were already angry and far too close to each other (close, so close not even air could squeeze in) but when they got really violent was when the train made a stop.

Getting out didn’t mean you were free, no matter where you managed it, be it Sloth or Gluttony, Pride or Lust. No, as soon as the train finished its journey, you would appear back inside, in Wrath where you belonged, suffocating once again, getting ready to claw your way out for the millionth time.

Because if you didn’t get out, The Conductor would get you.

If he thought about it calmly, Charles could probably say that he got out of the train more times than not. Still, being caught by The Conductor once was bad enough, as there was no coal in Hell, and something had to serve as combustible. Souls could not burn to death, and the whole journey always felt longer than eternity when he was caught. Once it was over, he would be inside again, and fight with more desperation than before, not caring who stayed inside so long as it wasn’t him.

He couldn’t understand why anyone, hellborn or not, would want to get into the damned thing. He certainly hadn’t. But as the souls pushed and bit and clawed and punched their way out, Edwin boarded the train. And that wasn’t even the most groundbreaking revelation Charles had that day.

Danny and (a recently revived) Jason move into an apartment together, they live right next to each other too.

The thing with this, however, is that the both of them?

They goddamn hate each other.

If murder was not illegal, they would genuinely kill each other. But since it is, they settle for the next best thing, just beating each other up on sight.

At least, until the landlord told them to not fight on their property and if they were to do it out of sight, so they don't scare away any more potential clients.

They've already scared away more than 10.

You do get the sense that Mihawk is a man that has never been normal about a single thing, a day in his life.

He either underreacts or overreacts, Things either don't affect him or obsess him there is no in between. There is only the russian roulette of which option you get.

And unless you're a certain red head or cotton candy haired child, neither option spells anything great for your general well being or the integrity of your ship...

Duke was running out of fumes to run on. The last few days would be exhausting if it was just vigilante or just civilian stuff but no, he had to have it both. Because of Arkham break out, he had been called in three nights in a row, not for a whole patrol but he couldn't exactly sleep it off during the day like others did, especially not in a week when every teacher decided they needed to have test or quiz or what not. Naps meant he wasn't as sleep-deprived as he could be but he needed far more. But he couldn't because crime in Gotham never sleeps so he had normal patrol to finish and there were about two hours left.

Would something bad happen if he just stopped for a moment and laid on a roof? Ten up to fifteen minutes. It was a slow day too…

Yeah, no, he deserved a moment to rest and if something disastrous was to happen in the meantime he would shame other Bats for not giving him enough time to sleep.

It certainly said something that he found gravel covering this roof to be quite comfortable. He set a timer for ten minutes and let himself close his eyes.

When the loud screech of the timer jolted him awake, he was suddenly fully aware that he wasn't alone anymore. He sat up a little too quickly.

"Oh, you're awake" white white-haired girl around Damian's age chimed, sitting cross-legged just a few feet away from him. She wore something that could only be described as a lab safety hazmat suit, white and black with popping green accents. When had Gotham gotten a new vigilante/villain/whoever the girl was? "Good, I just returned from a snack hunt," she added, gesturing at a big textile bag lying next to her. Duke didn't have enough brainpower to do anything more than ask.

"What?"

The girl shrugged, take-out from BatBurger in her hand.

"You look like you have a bad day if not a few days, so I've got you my cousin's bad day combo or at least the closest thing I could. BatBurger burger isn't as good as NastyBurger but you certainly have better fries" As she spoke, a second take-out bag, 1 liter bottle of energy drink, juice bottle of the same size, and pack of convenience store brownies joined greasy paper bag sealed with a sticker.

"Is your cousin a speedster?" Excuse Duke, it was a totally valid question, he saw with his bare eyes both Wally West and Bart Allen when they visited Manor. No one else would be able to stomach the amount of food they inhaled during their stays.

"Nah, we're not that fast or that hungry. Though I think I may get closer to the speed of sound." So, clearly, a meta if white hair and weir aura that let his eyes rest weren't enough indication "My cousin when he has a bad few days often forgets to eat so this combo has to help with there too. But I'll steal your fries of course."

Duke was not going to look a gift horse in the teeth, so he grabbed one bag and tore it open. There was a classic combo with bigger fries and NightWings inside.

"Thank you…" he trailed off, hoping that the girl would take a clue and introduce herself but she didn't. She just drowned her fries in ketchup and started munching. She had her own juice.

"My cousin always said that each part of this combo has a different purpose." she explained instead, slightly muffled because of the fries in her mouth "This" she gestured towards the fast food meal "is to soothe your stomach. This "she tapped energy drink "is to soothe your brain and kick it back online. This "she raised a bottle of juice "is to soothe your taste buds because energy drinks are war crime against them and this "she nudged brownies "is to soothe your heart because Ancients damn it, this day is awful and you deserve it. At least that's what he told me when I had day bad enough to deserve that" she shrugged, licking ketchup of her finger. Suddenly she froze "You aren't allergic, are you?

"No, I'm not" he confessed bewildered.

"Good"

For a long moment, they sat in silence, devouring food the little girl brought. Duke distantly wondered if this was how the night shift spent their snack breaks. It felt nice.

He was finishing his part of the brownies when the girl spoke up again.

"Do you feel better now?"

"Yeah," he was a little surprised to realize that t it was true. He'll have to note down what she put in this 'bad day combo'. "Thank you"

"Don't mention it." she shrugged with a general gesture of dismissal "You're one of my cousin's favorite heroes because you're vaguely his age and handle Gotham alone during the day and I quote "She did honest or God air quotes at that" 'As only hero in Amity-' which is a lie by the way, Val is doing great and even if he suddenly got problem with how she feels about his alter ego, he still has Sam and Tuck even if they're usually more of moral support. And I helped when I visited, so no, he isn't the only one. Anyway as he said 'As the only hero in Amity, my heart goes out for anyone who deals with this type of bullshit so Dani if you absolutely have to prank heroes, leave them out of it, especially Signal, he can't be older than Jazz, he doesn't need any more mess to handle.' All aliens and lanterns are also off-limits because he is a space nerd. But you aren't space-related so I'm like 80% percent sure he has a celebrity crush on you" She slurped more juice, unbothered.

Duke was thankful he wasn't swallowing anything because for sure she would choke. He took a split second to consider addressing… this whole situation and choose against it. He was not ready to be anyone's celebrity crush.

"Your name is Danny?" he asked instead.

"Dani" she corrected" with an I"

"Ok. It's nice to meet you Dani-with-an-I" She giggled, nodding her head slightly.

"It's nice to meet you too Signal"

Duke stood up, stretching a little. Dani joined him after hastily putting all the trash in her bag. She was a little higher than expected.

"I have to get back to my patrol"

"Cool," she drifted back a bit, making him realize that she was floating a few inches above the ground. She fixed her bag on her arm.

"Hey, can I hang out a little bit more? My cousin will go green out of jealousy when I tell him" she added with a mischievous smirk but Duke could tell there was more to it. He took a moment to consider it, which apparently made the girl nervous "I can be invisible the whole time, like before." she offered, disappearing in the meantime. He could still tell where she was, because of her heat signature, and aura but for regular people, she would be no different than the surrounding air.

If we tried to fight together we would trip over each other" It was a bare-faced lie, Bat Training made sure of that but he knew for a fact that if he said anything else, the girl would be mad and probably did her own thing.

Dani still looked displeased but after a moment of consideration, she nodded with a defeated sigh.

Suddenly she straightened like she got struck by lightning and whipped around.

She just shushed raising her finger to her mouth. Duke did indeed quieten.

"I have enhanced hearing" she whispered "There is a mugging somewhere this way."

"Let's go then" he shot his grapple, waving his other hand at Dani to come with him before he jumped off the roof. He heard the girl giggle as she flew right after him.

" After this, you'll show me the coolest gargoyles, okay? Sam asked for photos"

"Okay"

It seemed that the end of this patrol wouldn't be as bad as the start was. Hopefully.

And afterward, he was going to lock himself in his room until the sky fell or he was well rested.

stan having severe issues from his dad and those years of being homeless that we keep on getting more info on but never really getting confronted on (the drifter catalogue and tijuana incident...), him being completely alone for like twenty years when running the shack before soos comes along to the point that 1998 is noted as his low point, and him not really learning about bill+what he did to ford until ages after he killed him if he ever did get the full context

while i think amnesia and everyone seeing him as a hero actually helped with stan's 'i'm a worse version of my brother' thing its still a lingering issue too and we now got him being insecure over his own hands

The Future of the Pantheon of the Gods

@prehistoric-catgirl added onto @stealingyourbones 's post about Random DC characters interacting with DP characters. Her character was Cassie Sandsmark and she created a prompt where-in Cassie is assigned to become part of the new Pantheon and to seek out other members of the new Pantheon, including Danny Phantom who will be the new God of Death.

"Is this true?" Cassandra Sandsmark asked.

Cassie, Donna Troy and Diana Prince, stood before the gathered gods of Olympus. Cassie had been surprised to be summoned alongside the original Wonder Woman and the first Wonder Girl, her mentor and greatest inspiration respectively, to stand before the Olympians.

"Yes. Though we have tried to stop the decline, the truth is the gods are dying." Zeus rumbled, ozone and petrichor filling her nose as he spoke.

Cassie hadn't wanted to bring it up, but the gods around them did seem... older... weaker than they ever had been. They were still far over any mortal, but even with all the gathered Olympians the air was suffocated by their power like it had been even a few years before.

"Is there some way we can assist?" Donna asked, looking around them and no doubt cataloging the same changes Cassie had noticed.

Hera smiled at the trio of Wonder Women.

"Your noble spirit is why we have summoned you, but there is nothing that can be done to save us now." The words had a weight of surety to them. Everything had already been tried. The end of the Olympians was inevitable.

"The worship from the mortals has declined in recent centuries." The ground rumbled and shook under her feet as Poseidon spoke. "We are not as powerful now as we were a decade ago and in another decade more our infirmity will only grow."

Hades spoke next, his voice cracking with cold that stole Cassie's breath away. "There were some of us who felt we should just fade away, if the mortals no longer wished to worship us, then they can see how well they do without our influence over our domains."

"However, the rest of us wanted to ensure our domains remained to serve the humans even after our passing." Hera said, her words like a gavel. "The solution we have reached is to pass on our mantels to new, worthy successors. Those who have some skill with our domains, unshakable moral codes, and a deep love for their fellow mortals."

Cassie pondered the words of the Gods in the following silence. Then her eyes widened and her head whipped up to meet the eyes of Zeus who smiled at them as she gasped.

"Yes, we plan to pass on our duties to heroes such as yourselves." He declared, his arms open, magnanimously.

Cassie could see that Donna and Diana were as shocked as she was, though both of them kept their gasps silent. Diana gave a short bow.

"If there is no other way, than is a duty I can bare." She said.

"Not you Diana." Hades said, his empty eyes capturing them each in turn. "You have your own purpose among the new Pantheon, God-killer."

Diana stiffened and rose to face the Olympians once more, her shoulders set. Hera was the one to speak next.

"We decided those best to handle the weight of the cosmos would be those who are young enough to grow into their new roles. There are many such young heroes in your world who could train alongside us before our decline is complete."

"And if they should fall short of your standards, you expect me to serve as their executioner." Diana's disdain could have only been more clear if she had spat on the floor.

"Yes." Poseidon snapped like the crash of wave. "The power we have, that we are offering is too great to exist without some kind of check to prevent its abuse."

"Besides," spoke Athena for the first time, her eyes still filled with power despite her declining worship. "How many problems have been created for the mortals by the petty squabbles of those who sit on these thrones? We believe you, Diana, will be a worthy mentor for our successors, but you will not be among them. Always apart, always with your sword ready."

Diana's fury burned off her in waves, hating the idea that she would have to turn her blade against some of the junior heroes that she had helped raise, and seen grow up. Cassie swore she could hear her grinding her teeth and was afraid that Diana would decide to end the Pantheon right there.

"So! Who is it you have decided to be your successors?" Donna spoke up quickly, clearly thinking the same thing Cassie was.

"We have consulted the greatest oracles and soothsayers and each of us have chosen one who will suit." Hera said. "Zeus, why don't you go first."

Zeus held his hands out towards Donna. His eyes locked on hers. He stepped down from his dais as Donna stepped back, her eyes the size of dinner plates.

"Who else could take my place other than the sister of our dear Diana, who has proven her metal through lifetimes of strength and suffering. Donna Troy, you will be the next Queen of Olympus."

Donna looked like she might pass out, but shook the shock off and stood firm, earning her a proud smile from Zeus. Cassie patted her on the back, proud of her idol for everything she has accomplished.

"And you Cassandra, daughter of Zeus will take my place as the Goddess of War." Ares declared. "As you should."

Cassie carefully kept her snarl inside, her problems with her "brother" Ares was better left for when she was away from the rest of the Pantheon. At least if she were the Goddess of War, she wouldn't revel in the violence like he always did.

"We will not transfer our power now." Zeus spoke up again, returning to his throne. "Once the New Pantheon is assembled we will hand over our mantels, retaining only a fraction of our power to train our successors."

"Your responsibilities, and the reason we called you first, is so that you may notify those who will join you by your side." Hera said, settling to the details of their mission. "Diana, you will inform the mentors of these young heroes to prevent a panic. Diana, many of these are known to you, and you are known to them, so you will be the primary contact."

Hermes and Athena stepped forward to hand off scrolls to the two of them. Cassie fought to keep her emotions neutral. She would help no one by pouting at being redundant. Diana and Donna looked closely at the scrolls, their faces journeying through emotions as they considered the names.

"And you Cassandra," Cassie looked up in surprise at being addressed by Hades. "There are other heroes that you must reach out to who are not known to your organization, including my own successor."

"Secret would be a perfect-" Cassie started, quick to suggest her own teammate before Hades cut her off.

"No!" He snapped, the word stealing her breath away, forcing her to gasp and clutch her chest. "Your companion does have skills with regards to my domain, but there is another whose power and dominion of death is absolute. He is already a king in his own right, and his connection to life remains strong enough that he would be able to sympathize with the mortals. While he is unknown to your Justice League he is know and beloved to me."

Cassie nodded her head as another scroll, this one cold as ice was handed to her by Hermes. She couldn't help but be impressed by whoever this person is. She hadn't heard Hades call anything beloved other than Persephone in all the time she had known him. She looked at the names and coordinates on the scroll.

"Who on Earth is Phantom?"
