As children my sister and I swam competitively. I was a year younger than everyone in my grade so I swam against kids that were larger and stronger than me. My sister was a consistent first and second place ribbon winner whereas I was thrilled to get sixth place (out of 12 or more) because that was the last place ribbon rewarded. After that, no ribbon. It made me work harder because I wanted the ribbons. There is no opportunity to build character or better sportsmanlike conduct when everybody wins. Life isn't fair prepare children early...

i love imagining a cinematic sort of montage of scenes that show the juxtaposition of Viggo's upbringing against the life of the dragon riders; going from a young Viggo being told by his father and grandfather that dragons are witless beasts of vicious nature, to an older Viggo watching the riders share a deep bond with those same creatures.

young Viggo being told by his grandfather that dragons are without mercy, harsh as nature's own hands, power given flesh—to adult Viggo watching a night fury risk its life to save a boy, using its fire not for threat but for warmth, its claws not to maim but to hold, its wings not to attack but to carry.

Bruce & Talon!Dick age swap

Okay so I saw a post about Bruce getting taken by the Court of Owls after his parents death to be Talonized and I raise you this. (it's only half fleshed out please do tell me your takes)

The Waynes are royalty in Gotham -- even if they haven't been part of the Court for a few generations. The Owls whisk away Bruce, not trying to talonize him -- they are arguing between themselves for custody. For regency of the kingdom, by raising the future king. This Wayne will be the next Grandmaster of the Court, they'll make sure of it. (should we get rid of the butler?)

9 years old Bruce Wayne is curled up in a corner, watching this, silent, still in shock. Something plop in front of him: Joe Chill's head.

The Owls get silent, and watch the Talon get on its knees in front of the young prince, who's still petrified. (Who ordered Talon to go get the Waynes' murderer? Not me. No one? Did it decide on its own? Its talonization is only halfway from completed. It's an interesting result though. Kneeling in front of the princeling, huh? It understood his place well. I don't think this initiative deserve punishment. Yes, good job Talon, the Court of Owls has now avenged the Waynes-)

Talon doesn't turn toward the Owls, its eyes are fixated on little Bruce, still curled up frozen. Slowly, Talon spread its blood-stained hands, tentatively opening its arms. Bruce's eyes widen, and there's a raging storm of emotions in those shiny blue eyes.

Gently, Talon place its hands behind Bruce's back and head and attract him on its lap, burying the boy's head in its stomach. Its movement are awkward, it is acting on instinct from memories it can't quite grasp, but it thinks this is how it is supposed to do it-

And then little hands curl into fist in the fabric of its uniform, and the boy's body starts shaking, and for the first time, little Bruce falls apart in loud, keening sobs, while Talon studious rub little circles in his hair with the tips of its fingers.

When you encounter a lava lake while mining, remember ECLAIR:

EVACUATE: Back up to give yourself enough time and distance to respond appropriately. Remember, lava is much slower than you, and is only dangerous if you touch it!

CONTAIN: Place dirt or stone between yourself and the lava to separate it from the rest of the mine. If the lava touched anything flammable, use your Emergency Water Bucket to extinguish the fire. Don't forget to replace any torches that were broken by use of the Emergency Water Bucket.

LEAVE: Exit the tunnel intersecting the lava lake and move on to the next one. Never dig perpendicular to a known source of lava!

APPROACH: Using your existing tunnel pattern as a guideline, carefully dig toward the lava from opposite sides until the boundaries of the lake are adequately mapped.

ILLUMINATE: Make sure the location of the lake is clearly marked and signposted. Duplicate or alter normal logistical signs as necessary to direct foot-traffic around the affected area. (Consult your Employee Handbook for specific signposting guidelines.)

RETURN: Go back to normal mining activities.

Mhmm I sure love thinking of the reality where we did get more time to really know Karai and her dynamics with the bros. Losing her hit hard in the finale, but it would’ve hit much, much harder had we known Karai longer and really saw her relationships develop with everyone.

I especially would have been interested in her dynamic with Leo, as past iterations often have the two of them clash in ideals and the like while still sharing many characteristics. Two sides of the same coin, and all that. Her specifically being the bros’ Gram-Gram also adds a whole new dynamic as well.

Imagine how interesting it would be, to have Karai start off on Leo’s side for once, showing wholly just how alike the two are at their cores and bonding as family without the worry of betrayal or animosity that other iterations suffer through, only to have Karai die anyway. Their parting hug and the desperate look of horror Leo wears later on would have hit that much harder, I feel.
