i swear i´m gonna start biting dog trainers if they don´t stop comparing dogs with behavioural issues to autistic people
#i´m already a bit tired of the constant comparison to children because dogs are not children and i understand that with some people#you have to use that language to make them understand that positive reinforcement is a better way to train dogs than beating the shit out o#them but at a certain point you have to use appropriate language for the animals you actually work with#but that whole thing aside. people with autism are not dogs. you can´t just uncritically talk about clicker training autistic children in#your dog training books and blogs.#like unrelated to opinions on behavioural therapy for children you just CAN NOT compare people who have a mental disability to animals#either they stop or they will be bitten by me the autistic guy called Bark

Two weeks with Aurora! Here's a recap of life so far.
Our targeted socialization was pretty successful, we managed a bunch of different experiences and she rocked them.
Monday: Busy street at rush hour
Tuesday: Train station
Wednesday: Construction site
Thursday: Bike path next to train line
Friday: Outside a coffee shop
Saturday: Baby hike in the wild
She's still doing great in overall good citizen behaviours. She has specifically been crushing:
✅ Sleeping through the night
✅ Name recognition
✅ Basic training skills
✅ Recovering from being startled
✅ Being crated quietly
Honestly she's doing amazing, I am so so proud of her. 💜
Areas for improvement for the week include:
✴ Bullying Pike (which is improving but still not great)
✴ Demand barking and overall noise level
✴ Chewing on the couch in excitment
Our biggest victories this week include:
🎉 Baby hike 2.0 with beautiful ranging, reasonable baby recall, and great enthusiasm
🎉 Calling off play with Pike on multiple occasions
Our big goals for next week:
🚀 Less harassment of Pinecone
🚀 Working through the foundation levels of the baby conditioning class I'm taking
Really excited for the next few weeks with this girl! 💜
#dogblr#rory borealis#about aurora#she is snuggling really really well without biting me#and she 'asked' for a training session the other night which was soooo sweet#i want to take her on the train today#and i want to take her to see some blow up xmas ornaments before theyre put away for the year#i would love for her to stop barking#but im remembering how loud mav was and he grew out of it pretty quickly#so im hoping she grows out of it as well#the conditioning class is pretty cool!#its for dogs 8 weeks to 8 months#conditioning is a weak spot of mine - i dont know enough to work through it on my own#so i think this was a great purchase#im excited to work through it this winter#i feel like if any dog can use more body awareness and core strength its probably a brittany#this photo is from last week by the way we have like no snow left

One of the ways I've found to be kinder to myself is reminding myself I'm an animal and functionally I behave like one. It's easy to get caught up on things you did in the past, but you don't judge a wolf for killing a fawn, so it's just as not fair to judge yourself for shit you did when you were a kid. Yeah you did stupid shit as a teen, that's what teens do.
#bark bark bark#you were mean when you were insecure because that's a form of defense#i think it's important to go back and notice the cause and effect relationships of these kind of things as an attempt to prevent them from#happening again but at the end of the day the wolf can't stop itself any more than we can we just learn new stupider ways to fuck up#anyway i've become radically accepting about most things in my life and when you treat everything that happens as what it appears to be you#have a kind of animalistic realistic approach to things#i think a lot of dog trainers and people in general could benefit from an introduction of conditional logic because that's truly what i've#build my skills around since I was learning programing in dog training at the same time and it's kind of shaped my world view I think

Maybe my parents feel the same way about me as I do about my dog
I had a goal, some expectations for her, and I did lots of research to be able to give her only the best and how to teach her right. But it’s way harder than I thought it’d be and she has some issues that I just don’t know how to solve on my own. I’m not disappointed that she’s not what I imagined but I do wish she was better
#autism#actually autistic#dog#dog training#JEEZ having a puppy is HARD#She never stops crying when I’m not in sight#And she barks when there’s ppl outside#I’m proud that I’ve taught her “sit” and “down” and some self control#But it’s so hard

my downstairs neighbours, who are fans of playing the same 10 seconds of the same 3 rave remixes - one of which is the thomas the tank engine theme tune - on repeat for hours at the highest possible volume each day, have recently discovered that they can also play andrea botcelli's con te partiro on repeat for hours at the highest possible volume each day. in between the same 10 seconds of the same 3 rave remixes (one of which is the thomas the tank engine theme tune).
#they recently bought a dog to repair their objectively toxic relationship and boy howdy. let me tell you.#that dog loves to howl. AND he can hold a note.#and it HATES their other dog that they didnt bother to socialise or train. so when its not howling to be let out of the room they shut it i#to stop it trying to kill their other dog. its snarling and barking and trying to kill their other dog.

To make a point to the males in my family
Is it IRRESPONSIBLE to let an untrained dog have free reign to wander without a leash?
#starryshiz#they don't train it at all. they let it out of the FENCED BACKYARD to make it stop barking constantly#and I get yelled at for telling them to leash the dog or leave it in the backyard. IT'S A LARGE BACKYARD#they claim we aren't even keeping it but they're not trying hard enough to give it to someone else

Trying to beam into my upstairs neighbours head that yelling for your dog to come does not imbue it with the power of recall you gotta actually teach them that shit
#I’m going#crazy out here#their other dog is badly trained as well she does not know how to stay down#and they actively tell my to knee her in the chest to get her off????#motherfucker TRAIN YOUR DOG#the other one literally does not stop barking at me#I’m in this lawn every day it’s seen me a ton#it just will not stop barking#and the just leave her?????#to be clear if I go back in SHE BARKS AT MY DOOR#rambles#personal I suppose#I’m having a night

one minute of silly puppy playing with and teething on his nylabone, to the background restaurant noise of a silent travelvlogger (to get him used to the television and different kinds of ambient sounds).
#rescue pup#cody#the inability to take him out#(waiting for last vaccine)#((and a behaviour expert tbh))#doesn’t need to stop all socialisation skill training#he’s started clicker training today#to help with general behaviour and barking#which he’s taking to like a duck to water#smart cookie#and we’ve contacted an expert who’s going to make room#to give him some private instruction#and introduce him to other dogs#(which he may not have had or has had bad experiences)#(we can’t know so are playing it safe)#starting with her own known puppy-safe ones#luckily he’s smart by other dog standards#but not brigsy’s#i.e. we can just treat him#and he doesn’t understand it’s bribery#or at least not yet#so we’re just going all in on positive reinforcement#and risking fatting him#cus we can lose weight later#but we can’t get this critical learning time back#14 weeks is a very formative brain age

How To Stop Your Dog from Barking
Hey there, fellow dog lovers! 🐾 If you’re reading this, chances are you’re dealing with a barking dog and looking for some effective ways to bring peace and quiet back into your home. As a dog trainer, I’ve seen it all, and I’m here to share my top 10 methods to help you stop your dog from barking. Let’s dive in!
1. Identify the Cause
Before you can effectively stop the barking, you need to understand why your dog is barking. Is it boredom, anxiety, territorial behavior, or something else? Observing your dog’s behavior and triggers will help you address the root cause.
2. Provide Mental and Physical Stimulation
A tired dog is a quiet dog. Make sure your dog gets plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Long walks, playtime, and puzzle toys can help burn off excess energy and reduce barking.
3. Teach the “Quiet” Command
Training your dog to understand the “quiet” command can be incredibly effective. Start by allowing your dog to bark a few times, then say “quiet” in a calm, firm voice. When your dog stops barking, reward them with a treat and praise. Repeat this process consistently.
4. Desensitize to Triggers
If your dog barks at specific triggers, such as the doorbell or other dogs, gradually desensitize them to these triggers. Start by exposing your dog to the trigger at a low intensity and rewarding them for staying calm. Gradually increase the intensity over time.
5. Use Positive Reinforcement
Reward your dog for good behavior. When your dog is quiet and calm, give them treats, praise, and affection. Positive reinforcement helps your dog associate quiet behavior with positive outcomes.
6. Create a Calm Environment
Sometimes, dogs bark because they’re anxious or stressed. Create a calm environment for your dog by providing a comfortable space, using calming music, or trying pheromone diffusers. A relaxed dog is less likely to bark excessively.
7. Avoid Reinforcing Barking
It’s important not to inadvertently reinforce barking. If your dog barks for attention and you give in, you’re teaching them that barking gets them what they want. Instead, ignore the barking and only give attention when your dog is quiet.
8. Use Bark Control Devices
There are various bark control devices available, such as ultrasonic devices or citronella collars. These can be effective in deterring barking, but should be used as a last resort and under the guidance of a professional trainer.
9. Practice Consistency
Consistency is key when training your dog. Make sure everyone in the household is on the same page and follows the same training methods. Mixed signals can confuse your dog and make training less effective.
10. Seek Professional Help
If you’ve tried everything and your dog is still barking excessively, it may be time to seek help from a professional dog trainer or behaviorist. They can provide personalized guidance and help address any underlying issues.
Remember, patience and persistence are essential when training your dog. With time and effort, you can help your furry friend learn to bark less and enjoy a quieter, more peaceful home. 🐶✨
Feel free to share your experiences and tips in the comments below. Happy training! 🐾

Need to hire someone who, every time I say "oh better go lie down" and then just continue to do shit, will play a loud incorrect buzzer noise and then tackle me into to nearest bed
#Sunny Life#wonder if you could train a medical alert dog to do that lmao#it picks up on the queues that I'm exhausted and just won't stop barking until I've gone and laid down

constantly being reminded that the standard acknowledge-enough formula for getting guard/guardian dogs to stop barking does not work on many other dogs
#what we do with my family's two large guardian breed dogs is that you let them alery- acknowledge what they've alerted to#I.e. if they're barking bc a car door slammed outside you say ''thank you. I heard it''- and then you tell them ''alright that's enough''#it usually works pretty well bc what they need to know is that someone else will take care of what they perceive as a threat.#if they know you're Aware of it (and yes they can understand this) they'll relax a bit#however I forget that the dogs I've grown up with and that my family has right now are... extremely conversational#we talk to them like people basically. I say please and thank you to them and genuinely they understand me.#they're SUPER in tune to vocal commands/being spoken to in any context.#many other dogs are... not. my brother's dachshund is very well trained but he does Not stop barking when I#instinctively say ''thanks I heard it that's enough'' it just doesn't work on him sjdskfnskfbskfnsk#Lu rambles

I think being autistic does actually make me inherently better at animal handling because I, too, have been yelled at for growling and biting when everyone ignored my previous warnings and didn’t set clear boundaries
#my roommate’s always like Wow my dog responds so well to you!#yeah bitch I set clear expectations and consistent rules and I don’t yell at him#and I pay attention to his body language and the rituals he creates#literally it’s not that hard#ya she got him to train as a service dog LMAO#she doesn’t have the money to send him to a trainer and the time to do it herself#when I recommended she pull from the emergency fund (because his reactivity is getting BAD to the point of borderline aggression)#she was like ‘who has an emergency fund for their pet :P’#BITCH IDK IM NOT MAKING $30+ AN HOUR WITH A 401K AND FULL INSURANCE PACKAGE#THATS WHY I DONT HAVE A DOG??#just an in-the-works shrimp tank that I do in fact have a small emergency fund for#it’s your job as a responsible pet owner to attend to your animal’s needs. if you can’t do that you shouldn’t have a pet#and she fucking undermines the training /I/ give#like I was teaching him to find a toy when someone knocks at the door to redirect his energy and prevent barking#but now whenever he barks at the door she YELLS at him to find his toy#so I had to stop training that area because like. what the fuck am I gonna do???#notably I am the only person who can consistently get him to stop barking at the door#completely unrelated to the fact that I’m calm and give him treats when he stops barking#and comes over to me and chills out#goddddd I hate her she shouldn’t have any animals ever#anyways what was I saying.#oh yeah I’m the only person in this apartment who should ever be allowed to have a dog#this is also why I dont plan to get one! I recognize that the college life is simply incompatible with responsible dog ownership#(unless EVERYONE is REALLY onboard which. lmao good luck.)

I am not going to lie folks. I am at the end of my ROPE I’m going to SNAP
#this is once again abt dumb stuff lol#I hate walking the dogs bc one of them is bad at being on a leash#and the other insists on eating everything she can get hold of#and then it’s muddy and someone shut off one of the public footpaths#which is probably not legal lol but I cba to chase it up#and both dogs bark IMPOSSIBLY loudly when it’s walk time#and they’re neither of them my dogs so there’s the added annoyance of the fact that. it wasn’t my responsibility to train them#and I knowwww when I get a dog two things I’m gonna focus on are making sure they’re calm. and leash training lol#I am not getting dragged around by a dog once I have my own it simply will not happen#and I will not be barked at.#also one of them slipped the leash at the start of the walk and she likes to try and hurl herself under cars so I was understandably worrie#I think I kept it together v well at that moment tho and she did come back when I called her#but it was nerve wracking#and then the other one kept trying to eat some prawns someone had dropped and like#I get it. overwhelming temptation. but I was busy trying to stop the other one jumping under a bus#and then when they get back in they just bark and bark and bark#so I’ve locked myself upstairs for a few minutes because like#it’s not their fault#they’re sweethearts#and it’s not fair if I get angry at them for shit like this they’re just. being dogs#so I’m taking some Calm Down Time lol#one of them is barking and howling because I’m not giving her attention right this minute#but well. tough shit lol aunty j is cross so aunty j is taking time out#uncle Freddie#all my friends better have kids so i can be uncle Freddie#looking forward to being a parent so my kids can call me pop pop or some shit#that’s a tangent. my rage at two dogs for being high maintenance is not a good lookout for my future parenthood lol#but at least I’m recognising that I need a minute so I don’t get angry#ok I’m done yelling now

The nice thing about my job so far is that I went a whole shift talking to multiple people and none of them gave me any of the usual "ah you know how it is. It's a job. You have to live with it." I've heard that nearly every place I've ever worked, and everyone here has been so willing to tell me how much I'll like it here. It's a really, really nice change. Bob's Burgers was playing in the daycare yesterday. I couldn't hear it over the dogs, but the vibe was nice.
#Dog days of care#The dogs never stop barking it's insane#But we are provided ear protection and once I'm done training I'll go from one ear blocked to two
