India and US Finalize Framework for Bilateral Trade Deal Ahead of High-Level Talks
Tumblr media
India and the United States have agreed to a comprehensive framework for a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) aimed at boosting economic relations and reaching a trade target of USD 1 trillion by 2030. The agreement will cover 19 chapters, including key areas such as trade in goods and services, investments, and customs.
Indian Delegation to Begin Key Talks in Washington
On April 23, Undersecretary Rajesh Agrawal will lead a high-level Indian delegation to Washington, D.C., for three days of discussions aimed at finalizing details of the BTA. These meetings come after the recent diplomatic efforts, including a visit to India by Brendan Lynch, the Assistant US Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, in March. It is reported that Rajesh Agrawal will be appointed India’s next Secretary of Commerce starting October 1.
Both nations see these sessions as a crucial step toward meeting an initial milestone, with the first target set for September-October 2025.
Key Trade and Market Access Areas
The Bilateral Trade Agreement is expected to cover a broad range of trade-specific targets and market access requests:
US Market Requests:
Electric Vehicles
Industrial Products
Wines and Dairy Products
Apples and Tree Nuts
Alfalfa Hay and Petrochemicals
India’s Requests:
Clothing and Textiles
Leather Products
Jewels and Precious Stones
Chemicals and Plastics
Shrimp
Horticulture and Oilseeds
Both countries are expected to negotiate the reduction of tariffs on selected goods to further facilitate the growth of bilateral trade.
Growing Trade, but Concerns Over Trade Imbalance
From 2021 to 2025, India emerged as the top trading partner for the US. In the FY 2024-2025, India recorded a trade surplus of USD 41.18 billion with the US, a rise from USD 35.32 billion the previous year. Despite this growth, the trade imbalance remains a concern for US lawmakers.
In response, former President Trump’s administration imposed additional tariffs on select Indian goods, effective April 2, with a 26% tariff on some products. These tariffs will remain on hold until July 9, allowing for continued negotiations.
Looking Ahead: A 500 Billion Dollar Target
The ambitious goal of the BTA is to increase bilateral trade to USD 500 billion by 2030, more than doubling the current figure of USD 191 billion. The upcoming talks in Washington are expected to play a pivotal role in reaching this goal and unlocking significant opportunities for both countries.

📉 U.S. Bond Yields Expected to Fall Despite Trade Tensions: What Investors Should Know
In a surprising twist amid growing trade tensions, leading bond strategists predict that U.S. Treasury yields are set to decline in the coming months.
According to a recent Reuters poll, the benchmark 10-year Treasury yield—currently around 4.38%—is expected to drop to 4.21% by June and further down to 4.14% within a year. This projection comes despite market fears that escalating tariffs and inflation pressures could push yields higher. read more

Like Mand’alor Din Djarin who is completely politically incompetent is very funny and good but what about Mand’alor Din Djarin who just comes out of nowhere and absolutely slaughters (metaphorical) these career politicians across the negotiating table bc he has 20 years of experience cutting contracts with the worst and most unbearable people in the galaxy. And he had to figure out ways to say I Am Not Fucking Doing That without ever technically breaking his code of honor by violating his contract or whatever.

as much as i enjoy seeing the class politics discussions around silco and his actions as a chembaron and a revolutionary, i do think that a lot of people condemning his actions (which we should condemn) miss the part where like.
it did work
like that was a pretty significant part of the show. it didnt pan out because he loved his daughter but silco's methods very much did get zaun as an independent nation, the real question is if it was worth it (which we'll never know bc jinx shot him)

sooooooo, are they gonna do something? why are we trading for defensive players? surely they know you have to score to win games, right? and surely they know that they haven't been doing it lately.
They also have to know that one of their star forwards is out for the season, right??? right???? And maybe we need to replace him, yeah???

Normally I try to speak about something that comes to mind once per day, a small commentary on the ways to the new era. But today the sun is warm, the wind is cool, and the birds sing proudly in the trees above the studio.
I'll instead take a moment today to tell you a story:
I was born in the mines, but I was one of the last people to remember childhood there. It's been a while since Sanjak has become free, and since then I have had the great joy to see children born and raised who have no knowledge of our time underground.
This is a source of great joy, but it is also a rift. They will come to me and they will ask me questions of what it was like when I was their age and I will tell them: I grew up in the mines. Things were different there.
They, too, learn history. They ask questions of the nobility that reveal a lack of understanding for the concept. The hierarchy of blood is foreign to them. To explain it is always an interesting trial with myself: I would deny none who seek knowledge the ability to find it, but to explain them faithfully is a trial against myself. (The noble would say they do not view themselves as better, merely suited for different things. But when the things they are suited to deserve luxury, and the things we are suited to are for the dirt, how is that not an assignment of value? This is not a nuance children foreign to the concept typically understand.)
Teaching the children of the mines is always a process. We tell them of the place we lived for so long, what it was like, the floods, the isolation, the denial of basic sunlight. One year, a group of children took it upon themselves to learn this trial by experience, and I remember holding a young child as they sobbed into my arms telling me of the horrors of the dark. "I know of this, dear." I said. "This is what we fought to save you from."
I do not blame them the curiosity but it is odd to feel such a combination of relief and horror. The children do not know of the mines, and this is the future we fought so hard to see. Because the children do not know but see the way it weighs on us, they sometimes take an empathetic leap in order to understand us better, and in the pain they experience at seeing a fraction of what we had to endure, I find myself drawn to tears about what was taken from me.
There many things to take away from this, I suppose. The first we did was to make it harder for them to access the old mineshafts. The rest I find myself thinking on on days like these, when the sun is warm and mild and the wind blows softly and the old horrors seem a distant nightmare.

If anyone's still like "Why should I have to do bullshit busywork writing assignments for class? Why shouldn't I use ChatGPT? I don't think my professor even reads the assignments, I'm certainly not getting usable feedback on them.", and your teacher has never made this clear to you: the reason for the writing assignments that are some variant of 'Explain this process' or 'Describe one of the reasons for this event' or 'Give two possible paths for this reaction' is to help you check your own understanding of the lectures and readings.
If you try to explain something, and you get to the third step and your brain goes ??? or 'And now we perform sorcerous incantations' or 'The British!', then you know there's a missed step in the reading and you need to go back and check on that. Or the assigned readings don't cover it, and you need to look something up. Or you're genuinely in the weeds about why this was such a big goddamned deal for everyone, and you need to have you hand up when the teacher says "Any questions about the readings?" at the beginning of class or whatever.
This is how we go from passively absorbing information to being able to retain it, understand what we've been told, and synthesize new ideas and theories from it. This is how we go from memorizing facts to understanding the underlying causes and effects of things.
