this is KILLING ME you dont understand. my two favorite plays being pitted against each other like this. i feel like im the child in a bitter custody battle.
The Play That Goes Wrong: The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society prepare to stage their new production – the 1920s murder mystery 'Murder at Haversham Manor'. However the set is not yet complete and there is no time to finish it off…..the show must go on! With a murder (and a moving corpse) established from the beginning, the murder mystery gets into full flow. However, the props start to disappear, actors go missing and the set begins to collapse around, and often on, the cast. Mayhem ensues, the acting gets worse, and the set becomes increasingly dangerous, but the company struggle on regardless.
The Mousetrap: Seven strangers are stranded at Monkswell Manor during a blizzard. But a police sergeant unexpectedly arrives, worried that a murderer-at-large is among the guests of the Manor. Before he can investigate, one of the guests is killed, starting an investigation into the lives and histories of everyone there. One of them is the killer, and another one of them may be next. Will the police be able to solve the case before another “mouse” falls?
Propaganda under the cut!
The Play That Goes Wrong:
Goofy, silly, I love these characters your honor. A second floor of a set falls down.
Silly! Energetic! Disastrous!
It was fun and I had a good time :)
It's the most incredible straight play of modern time. It's the stereotypical murder mystery, but with Murphy's law applied to the actual production- everything that can go wrong, does. We don't simply have the characters on the stage, we also have the actors playing them, who are all so well developed with their own foibles. From "I'm Chris Bean, the Die-rector" until the set literally falls apart, it's the funniest thing in the world, and you won't stop laughing even after you've left the theatre. More than the humor, though, it makes the theatre, and all its quirks, accessible. It demonstrates how much work goes into making a show happen, both onstage and behind the scenes. That appreciation is something very rarely shown let alone celebrated- and celebrated is the right word here. For even when everything goes wrong, and everything DOES in fact go wrong, they keep going. The show must go on, and it does, and it's wonderful. Also the three guys who star in it wrote it, and they're actually the sweetest guys ever, which is a rarity in the world of the arts.
The Mousetrap:
Classic Agatha Christie whodunnit but performed on the stage. It's been running for over 70 years and it's really good.

some info
hello! been a while; just want to do some announcements on what i’ll probably be doing for this blog in the future!
- i am no longer going to be posting mischief updates on this tumblr. a good blog who gives updates on mischief theatre rn is @personinthepalace, chuck em a follow!
- ill still reblog mischief content bc im following the tags and they appear on my dash. i also will still probably draw mischief fanart, although that may be more on instagram now.
- RE: BOOTS AND GIVING THEM OUT: under the cut. Thanks! (Updated 29 Oct 2020)
i still have the links, but i no longer have the energy to constantly check my dms and give them out. i have given them out to various people, and i hope those i have given them too can make themselves known and share them with others! the only thing i ask now is that the TPTGW boot is only ever given out privately. the master of that boot does not allow for posting of his bootlegs in a public forum. in fact, a lot of masters don’t allow for this, and the ones who video mischief content is no different. please respect that.
FAQ ABOUT THE BOOTS
Video info:
- TPTGW:
2nd Broadway cast. Yes, this is the ONLY one that exists publicly. please don’t keep asking me for the original cast. If there was one I would have it, trust me. gdrive link, ~12GB HD MP4.
2019/2020 WE cast. Much newer and possibly my favourite cast (other than the Australian one). Currently off NFT but not easily found.
- CCGW: OG cast, Proshot ripped. gdrive link, ~500MB MP4.
- PPGW:
OG cast, Proshot ripped. unlisted youtube link. i’ve already seen this posted publicly, so it’s easy to find. just hope that it doesn’t get taken down; that’s the only link i have for it and i’m not about to reupload my copy to gdrive.
2019/2020 UK Tour. By the same person who videoed the WE cast of TPTGW. Has all the scenes missing from the proshot.
OTHER MISCHIEF SHOWS as of 29 Oct 2020:
- TCAABR: many audios (probably the most audioed show mischief has), two video boots, both off NFT. i will not be giving out any of these, sorry. its completely worth it to do some googling and find the masters for the videos to buy them.
- GROAN UPS: No videos, only audios.
- MAGIC GOES WRONG: No videos, only audios.
i love making mischief accessible but i will always have those who recorded these as my first priority. if you want to find a full list of every single mischief boot i have/know of, find my trading website. i’m not giving them out but it’s a resource that will make it super easy for you to find the masters of these boots. im also closed for trades now so please don’t try to initiate one.
hope this info helps you all with the less legal side of mischief content. i protect myself and the masters first, which is why im not just throwing them out there, and why i don’t disclose everything i know.
anyway, thank you to all the lovely people ive met bc of mischief! i still love them very much, but i need some time away and i need to pursue some other interests. hope this helps answer any bootleg questions, and good luck :)

hi, my tumblr won’t let me post anymore today but I wanted to let you know Chris’ (the director) scene yelling at the audience in tptgw is scripted! it’s a matter of improv until an audience member yells out, but the reaction itself is planned, although it changes (i.e. “if you want to laugh, go see spongebob the musical!” when it was on broadway)
thanks for the ask! i guess i finally have a definitive answer to this question :D

No theatre experience will beat Christmas 2013, Peter Pan Goes Wrong in the tiny Pleasance Theatre (260 seats).
The sheer chaos of the rotating stage not stopping and the entire cast jumping and running over the set shouting 'keep in line with the audience'
When ever I'm in trouble I always remember that advice... Keep in line with the audience

You're so right. I love that mischief has gotten big enough to get huge stars involved but I would like to read/see 1 article about PPGW that isn't solely enamored with nph
Anon, I was just ranting about this with some people in the Mischief server haha. And I've been upset about this huge celebrity promotion ever since they first brought tptgw to broadway back in 2017.
Like yes it is cool that they could get huge names involved in their broadway shows. JJ Abrams became a producer and helped to bring tptgw to Broadway. But then literally all the interviews were about JJ Abrams. And of course the interviewers would ask him questions about Star Wars instead of focusing on Mischief Theatre or tptgw itself. We're seeing a similar trend now with Neil Patrick Harris (who btw has extended his run to May 7th). The promos and interviews are about him and not the actual show itself.
And yes I know the reason for these big names is to bring in audiences and thus revenue, but it is quite annoying that Mischief themselves are barely getting any recognition themselves. I guess part of the problem is that Mischief shows are ensemble shows so there are no "main leads" to send out and do all the promos like most shows have. But Hen, Shields, and Jon could easily be the ones doing the promotions since they are the writers and heads of the show and company respectively. They should be promoting themselves so that the general audience could get to know them by name instead of "those funny british people." Their established fanbase + bringing in a celeb can't be their only marketing strategy
Also with NPH, it has the added injury that he is replacing Harry Kershaw who originated the role. Mischief fans (like me) are going out of their way to see the show for the original cast (also I have a side rant about that but that's for another time haha) but end up getting NPH instead of Harry himself. If they announced this way beforehand then it would have been fine but this unexpected announcement came as quite a surprise. Harry has gotten the short hand of the stick already in the BBC special where they had David Suchet to play the role of the narrator
Though someone did suggest an interesting idea if Mischief wants to continue this stunt casting. Mischief could get some big name (some suggestions include Christian Borle and David Tennant) to play as themselves in ppgw each week (similar to David Suchet in the BBC special). So they get a monologue similar to Suchet but related to their own work But it is a mystery guest so that would make people want to go see the show just to see who they get. And then Harry has another role (he could reprise his role as BBC guy) and/or he continue playing the Narrator once a week.
But of course this is an idea I could get behind if they promoted it from the beginning and don't make it the sole focus of their advertising of the show
Anyway this has gotten way longer and rambly then I intended haha but in short yes the constant advertisement of the celebrity instead of Mischief themselves is VERY annoying
