are you familiar with Sabé's storyline in the Darth Vader comics? what does it make you feel if so?
i think i read like half or most of that comic run (either bc it wasn't finished when i binged it or bc i got distracted) and Oh My God. the only thing that can make me crazier than sabé and padmé or anivader and padmé's dynamics with one another is grieving sabé and vader's dynamic together. like what if we were both in love with the same person and what if we both feel like the other person knew her better bc in each of our heads she has become more than human she has become a myth and what if our ideals were fundamentally opposed but we would still do anything and give up all of our morals for that woman we loved. and then what if i started biting drywall

Optimus Prime/Primus/the Matrix of leadership but they're in a toxic religious/codependent/abusive relationship
The Matrix loves Primus (is part of it) and hates Optimus. Which is a problem since the matrix is supposed to be the means of communication and mediation between Primus and the Prime. It hates him because of his doubts, his morals, his weaknesses. It DOES NOT WANT HIM.
Primus loves both the Matrix and Optimus but his insistence into keeping the Matrix and Optimus together harms both. He doesn't mediate between them, doesn't do anything to help the Matrix see the reasons he chose Optimus for nor he soothes Optimus' pain.
Optimus is an atheist who is coming to terms with the fact that Primus exists, but he still can't see him as "god" and is constantly suffering because of the Matrix that turns his doubts into physical pain AND it shows him the pain his kind is experiencing making his guilt grow exponentially.
Is the situation solvable? Maybe.
Is any of them willing to make the process easier? No.
Does the situation get more complicated when Rodimus appears and the Matrix "falls in love" with him? Oooooooh absolutely.
Does Optimus suffer? Yes~ Sweetly~
Also I want to add. There's nothing wrong with Optimus and his morals for the matrix to hate him. He is "worthy" in the beginning the matrix itself liked him... HOWEVER- things went bad and now the matrix doesn't like him on a personal level.

challengers (and, on some level iwtv) on the brain it really is so funny how so many people often will happily talk about polyamory as a solution to their little ships but when confronted with narratives that truly explore that it can't compute for them and they start picking teams of two.

It’s always surprising that Larycent only really exists on the fringes of the HOTD fanbase when it’s easily one of if not the most compelling and complicated relationships. The erotic overlap between love and violence, his near-primordial compulsion to service her and win her affection despite recognizing that she fears him in the same instinctual way that the fly fears the spider. Not to mention its capacity for discussions of class dynamics, ability/disability.
Matthew Needham’s explanation for the SA scene, that Larys seeks to wrest her bodily autonomy from her through making her own limbs part of the crime, deliberately targeting her traumatic sexual history and conscience-stricken disposition is such an interesting concept. He seeks to invoke a disconnect between her and her feet, symbolically and literally disabling her. In his eyes, the only way for them to truly identify with one another, or for her to love him, is for them to share in their bodily trauma together.
It conjures the image of a rabid animal willingly and devotedly infecting another.

thinking about. the consistent thread in challengers (2024) of wanting your life to be about more than "hitting a ball with a racket."
how tashi is the first character to bring this up and whether or not she means it (she's really only planning to do a year of college) she knows inherently that being well rounded is practical. that she's not from the same place as the country club, tennis academy, daddy's money kids. this should be an unattainable dream for most, but it's hers and she has it and it's terribly ingrained into her life but "what if this doesn't work out?" and then it doesn't. she gets injured and she gets stuck in this loop of the past, in her own potential, in what could have been. when it feels like everyone is counting on you to do and succeed at one thing ("she's going to make her family millionaires"), the one thing that is the framework and catalyst for everything you know, how do you come back from that? her life could now, realistically, become about something else because she actually can't have her dream anymore, but she becomes obsessed, holding on with white knuckles and performing alterations because she can't let it go, until she admits sardonically in a mostly abandoned applebees that her life really has only been about one thing.
and patrick. who challenges tashi's original statement. who has no problem devoting his life to tennis because it's a "good way to avoid having a job." who never had any dreams beyond playing the sport he's always had a knack for, coasting by on natural talent, never having to try. realizing too late that what really made it worth it was tennis as a relationship, not the selfish ego stroke it had been when he was good enough to win tashi's number. and he's stuck in arrested development, just like her. he never grew up, he never let go of the past, of what it felt like to play doubles with his best friend, of what it felt like to watch tashi at the top of her game. but he's painfully aware. he's made his bed and he's tangled in the sheets and he loves it and he hates it and above all else, he misses the way it used to be.
then there's art. whose decision to go to stanford is never questioned because it's unspoken general knowledge that he couldn't have gone pro right away. he never expected to be this big time professional player, he was always just concerned with doing a "really good job." and because of this, art's life is the one that probably should have been about more, the foundation was laid for it. but he's stuck too, a passive actor in a life he chose and was probably never meant to have. the holder of and heir to tashi's and patrick's unrealized dreams. (was it ever his dream?) and after eight years, after attaining it and living it without a real passion for it, he's ready to give it up because, out of the three of them, he wants his life to be about more than "hitting a ball with a racket" because it's "embarrassing to be doing this shit when you're 40." but he's the one who bears the weight of success, alone at the top, where the people he loves can only dream of knocking him off. so shouldn't he be grateful for it?

i think iwtv should have the daemon targaryen horror nightmares of his lovers but with lestat and louis having to see arun and amadeo. not armand, but arun as he was - young, hurt, doomed, already forgetting all that he knows. amadeo as he was, bruised, bloody and scarred, covered with paint and alcohol and other men’s blood and semen, and the waters of venice. have them Know. have them Realise why armand will always be the way he is
