I’m rewatching OUAT and I’m halfway through s4 and I’ve gotta say… the rumbelle break up where she uses the dagger to force him to leave storybrooke… fuckin chefs kiss

Don’t get me wrong, I love early seasons rumbelle. ‘Skin Deep’ remains not only my favourite episode of the show, but one of my favourite episodes of ANY show. But throughout the first half of s4 I kinda started to hate them together ngl. Rumple feels like a very stagnant character in this era and his betrayal and disrespect towards belle just completely switched me off. I stopped caring much about either character and honestly just wanted them to divorce already.

So the moment she thwarts him right as he’s about to go through with his latest sneaky shitty plan is SO satisfying to me. Watching him turn around and seeing the shock and fear in his eyes as she wields the REAL dagger instead of the fake one he gave her. The way she found that dagger, worked out what he’d done and immediately went NOPE and decided to not only dump his sorry lying ass, but BANISH him. The way he tried to talk his way out of it and she was just like ‘no, I’m talking now, and I’m telling you you fucked up’… OBSESSED what a queen!!!

Honestly it’s my favourite screen breakup ever. My best friend and I were literally cheering her on. Rumple spent half a season manipulating her, lying to her, betraying her trust, making decisions for her without consulting her, and assuming she’d be too dumb to work any of it out or to even suspect him of wrongdoing. It was DELICIOUS to see the panic on his face when he realised how badly he’d underestimated and undervalued her.

And I’m not a rumple hater! I think he used to be the best character on the show. I know rumbelle are still endgame and that’s fine, that’s great! Up until they broke up I wasn’t shipping it anymore, but I think him losing her because of his lust for power was what needed to happen for them to have a possible future. He fucked around and he needed to find out!!!

Anyway yeah it’s a fantastic scene and fantastic payoff from the writing team. 10/10 we literally rewound and watched the scene again because it slapped so hard. Watching characters who’ve been screwed over reclaim their agency is almost as satisfying as watching shitty husbands cry on the ground after their hot wives divorce them lmao

if i were the once upon a time writers, during the rumbelle season 4 "divorce" arc, instead of doing the nonsensical belle/will scarlet rebound romance thing, i would have had belle build other, actual, non-romantic relationships. like. my girl doesn't really have any actual friends or anything. she doesn't really have anyone, outside of this wildly manipulative man who keeps breaking her heart. she needed a support network. and that would have been a perfect time to build one. but no, let's have that weirdass affair that literally no one wanted, and that also made no sense instead
