Level Up! Video Game Skill by Twinsimming 🎮

Happy New Year 🥳 Here's my first mod for 2024!!

This mod expands on The Sims 3's hidden Video Game skill by making it similar to the skill of the same name in The Sims 4.

This is a script mod that can be placed in your Packages folder. It was built and tested on 1.69 but should work fine on 1.67.

Video Games

Sims can now play all 6 computer games available in The Sims 3, regardless of their Nerd Influence level. They also have access to 9 additional computer games from The Sims 4. All of these games will raise their hidden Video Game skill.

If you have @olomaya's Voidcritters mod installed, your sims can also “Play Voidcritters” on the computer to level up their Voidcritters skill along with their hidden Video Game skill.

The “Play Chess” interaction has been moved out of the “Play Video Game…” pie menu to avoid it getting lost among all of the new options.

Tournaments

Teen and older sims with level 2 hidden Video Game skill or higher can compete in video game tournaments on the computer. There are five tiers of tournament, each costing more in entry fees and being harder to win, but offering larger cash prizes.

The tournament tiers, required levels, lengths, entry costs, prize amounts, and chances of winning are as follows:

Amateur (Level 2) - 2 hours, §25 entry fee, 1st Place (§150), 2nd Place (§100), 3rd Place (§50), 40% chance of winning

Novice (Level 4) - 3 hours, §50 entry fee, 1st Place (§450), 2nd Place (§300), 3rd Place (§150), 35% chance of winning

Semi Pro (Level 6) - 4 hours, §75 entry fee, 1st Place (§750), 2nd Place (§600), 3rd Place (§450), 30% chance of winning

Pro (Level 8) - 5 hours, §100 entry fee, 1st Place (§1050), 2nd Place (§900), 3rd Place (§750), 25% chance of winning

Elite (Level 10) - 6 hours, §125 entry fee, 1st Place (§3000), 2nd Place (§1500), 3rd Place (§1000), 20% chance of winning

If your sim cancels the tournament interaction for any reason (mood failure, buff timeout, etc.) they will automatically forfeit the tournament. But they can enter a new tournament right away without a cooldown.

Placing in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grants positive moodlets (Winner!, Runner Up, or Bronze Baby), along with prize money. If your sim doesn’t make the podium, they don’t get anything but a negative custom moodlet called Loser.

Win or lose, your sim won’t be able to compete in another tournament until their moodlet expires.

Certain traits can either increase or decrease your chance of winning a video game tournament by 5% (note: this value stacks the more traits your sim has):

Increased Chance Traits - Lucky and Computer Whiz

Decreased Chance Traits - Unlucky, Absent Minded, and Loser

A sim’s hidden Video Game skill and hidden Arcade Machine skill also factor into their overall winning chance.

Stadium Tournaments

If your sim is at least level 6 in the hidden Video Game skill, they can compete in video game tournaments held at the stadium rabbithole on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays @ 1:00pm.

There are Semi Pro, Pro, and Elite level tournaments available, with a slightly higher entrance fee than computer tournaments, but they offer much more prize money and celebrity points if your sim comes in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.

The chances of winning these tournaments is the same as their computer tournament equivalent listed above.

Semi Pro Stadium Tournament (Level 6) - 4 hours, §150 entry fee, 1st Place (§3000), 2nd Place (§2000), 3rd Place (§1500)

Pro Stadium Tournament (Level 8) - 5 hours, §175 entry fee, 1st Place (§6500), 2nd Place (§5000), 3rd Place (§3500)

Elite Stadium Tournament (Level 10) - 6 hours, §200 entry fee, 1st Place (§10000), 2nd Place (§8500), 3rd Place (§7000)

*Winner!: Given when a sim comes in 1st place in a video game tournament, lasts 8 hours, +25 mood

*An existing moodlet that is repurposed for this mod.

Runner Up: Given when a sim comes in 2nd place in a video game tournament, lasts 8 hours, +15 mood

Bronze Baby: Given when a sim comes in 3rd place in a video game tournament, lasts 8 hours, +5 mood

Loser: Given when a sim fails to place in a video game tournament, lasts 8 hours, -25 mood

I recommend using Dandelion Sprout's Unhide Hidden Skills mod to track your sim's hidden Video Game and Arcade Machine skills.

Lilia Facts Part 61: Lilia and Malleus (pt8)

Other advice we see Lilia give to Malleus is pretending to be a long during the Halloween event, to “do as the school kids do,” to not zone out (“That's not how Briar Valley's heir should behave”) and to visit the school store during New Year’s. He also reminds Malleus about Vargas Camp, which he nearly misses due to reading through the camp overview and losing track of time.

Riddle demands an explanation for the drama of Spectral Soiree, saying that Malleus defied all logic when he kidnapped the majority of the school’s student body, but Lilia reveals that Malleus went to him first and foremost with the idea, and Lilia approved of it.

Lilia concedes to participating in the Phantom Bride event due to his role as Malleus’ mentor and chaperone, saying he cannot stand for any allegations that Malleus failed to save a single child of man.

When Malleus assures Silver that he is all right on his own and Silver is welcome to join the remaining students in their attempts to seduce Eliza, Silver refuses on the grounds that he cannot do so as Malleus’ only remaining guard, and Lilia would share his view if he were there.

From Silver we learn that he, Sebek and Lilia patrolled the school grounds the night before a Spelldrive tournament in order to keep Malleus safe from spies.

Lilia seems aware that Ramshackle Dorm is Malleus’ “secret spot” on campus, finding him there during Book 6 after its inhabitants have been kidnapped by Charon.

Malleus seems to be coming to terms with what loneliness feels like and Lilia says Malleus must never forget the pain he is feeling. Malleus says he knows, but when asked if he was lonely as a child he seems surprised as he is “used to being alone,” and he denies feelings of loneliness again during a similar conversation with Silver, so it is possible he did not understand Lilia’s lesson from Book 6 as well as he thought he did.

It might be rare for Lilia and Malleus to take photos together: they do so during Halloween and Malleus observes that “it’s been quite a while,” but when Lilia encourages him to start a Magicam account so that they will have more occasions to take pictures, he refuses. (He refuses to join Lilia in his audition for the VDC for the same reason: no desire to be put on display for humans.)

clans of the pantheon - ranks within each of the clans

notes:

may change in the future

some ranks are universal and have little to no changes from canon, but i'll be including them anyways since some clans have different names and expectations for them.

some of these ranks are taken directly from @/bonefall's better bones project. not all are universal.

the new and nearly universal rank of champion has been added, tempestclan is the only one without a champion.

warrior, apprentice, and elder remain unchanged with the exception of some additional lore for apprentice curriculum and elders.

the "queen role", or guardian/caretaker in some clans, is not a permanent fixture of the ranking systems. they are often still considered a warrior in some clans.

mustangclan

leader: (self-explanatory) leader of the clan, has the final say in everything. occupies the most traditional role of leader, their word is law. in mustangclan, their biggest responsibility is organizing the safe travel of the clan during seasons, which requires either organizing battle patrols or negotiation meetings (depending on the leader). position can be challenged via combat.

deputy: the second-in-command, in charge of organizing patrols and managing the inner clan while the leader deals with outside affairs and/or "larger problems". leaders will pick a group of candidate and narrow it down to two, the final candidate is decided through combat. position can be challenged via combat. much like in canon, mustangclan has one deputy and one alone.

medic: (self-explanatory) healers of the clan, in charge of maintaining the health and strength of the clan. mustangclan medics are expected to be ready on the battlefield and often set up a makeshift healing den near a fight. position can be challenged via combat (but who would want to do that?). in charge of interpreting signs, omens, and prophecies with the cats of the past and their gods. they are the vessel in which deities can speak to or even possess.

hunting head: since the camps of mustangclan are spread out, they're in charge of remembering the prey in the area, numbers, and the various predators there. report back to and work directly with the deputy.

kitchen head: in charge of overseeing the intake of food, processing of meat, pelts, and bones. works directly with the deputy, decided through experience.

educator: in charge of giving kittens and apprentices an overview of clan history, tail signals for travel, and so on. often work with the mentors of apprentices for specialized curriculum. at gatherings, they're often the ones recounting tales of old heroes, villains, and the gods themselves.

champion: the strongest of the clan, holds a mastery of combat. they are a cat who is deigned a champion of their clan and, if challenged by another clan to a duel, will represent their home clan in combat. in mustangclan, the leader often acts as the champion, though exceptions occur. champions are often also meant to represent a specific god, one picked by the cleric of their clan. bearstar acts as the current champion of the clan and represents the god of war.

warrior: same as canon, split into senior warriors and young warriors. senior warriors command more respect. the canon rank of queens does not exist in mustangclan, pregnant/nursing cats are still considered warriors.

apprentice: a mustangclan's curriculum must include having participated in a journey to one of their camps, surviving on their own for a few days, and participation in a grand tournament for mustangclan apprentices.

elder: similar as canon, though mustangclan has very few to no elders.

serpentclan

leader (though sometimes referred to as "ruler" within the clan): chosen through a select bloodline; a hereditary monarchy. due to serpentclan's more isolationist policies, the leader here is more involved in the inner clan politics and acts as a mentor figure to their deputies. unlike other clans, the leader here is in charge of communing with the gods and cats of the past as well as interpreting omens from them, making them an incredibly powerful figure. they wear a clan that reflects their leadership style, troutstar wears a crown of sorrel.

deputy: multiple cats depending on the size of the leader's litter, often considered a training period for becoming leader. only one will be picked to become leader.

physician: purely the doctor of the clan, all spiritual aspects of the job have been relinquished to the ruler of serpentclan. they are in charge of healing and mitigating plagues in the making.

hunting head: in charge of monitoring prey levels and health, predators in area, as well as keeping up prey stores for difficult times.

kitchen head: in charge of overseeing the intake of food, processing of meat, pelts, and bones. works directly with the deputy, decided through experience.

educator: in charge of giving kittens and apprentices an overview of clan history, clan structure and etiquette, and so on. similar to mustangclan, they are often the storytellers at gatherings, though serpentclan educators tend to focus less on 'clan history' as a whole and more serpentclan history, making them less popular than the other clan educators.

champion: the strongest of the clan, holds a mastery of combat. they are a cat who is deigned a champion of their clan and, if challenged by another clan to a duel, will represent their home clan in combat. in serpentclan, champions are picked at the warrior ceremony of an apprentice who has showed exceptional prowess during their training and the god they represent is chosen by the leader. the current champion is a prickly warrior named stingtongue, who represents the god of seasons. (she beat out pikesnap during their apprenticeships with a death-defying stunt in which she lured a coyote away from the camp. pikesnap is still pissed about getting the champion title 'taken away').

warrior: similar to canon, split into senior warriors and young warriors. senior warriors command more respect.

apprentice: similar to canon, curriculum focuses more heavily on learning the history of the clan, politics, patrolling, and hunting than fighting.

caretakers: similar to the queen role in canon, except these cats are those who have chosen to remain in the nursery to help care for the kittens. help maintain the cleanliness of the nursery

elder: similar to canon.

coyoteclan (pre-coyoteclan coup)

leader: expectations are similar to canon: a cat who helps ensure the survival of his clan through both their leadership within the clan and their handling of politics outside the clan. unfortunately, this role is similar to tempestclan: a figurehead in which the cats around them voice their decisions through. while they hold more power than the tempestclan leader, they are often given incentive by tempestclan infiltrators to do as they say.

advisor: more true to their name, they are there to "advise" (read: direct) the leader on what to do. they do not immediately ascend to leadership when the leader dies, instead, similar to tempestclan, choosing a warrior that has "proven themselves a true leader" (read: is easy to control).

saint: the healer of the clan, in charge of the caring of patients and interpreting signs of from spirits and the gods. not written in the job description is dealing with the various religious conflicts in the clan, with the saint having to downplay the influence of the pantheon of gods whilst simultaneously pushing forward the tempestclan god.

hunting and kitchen head: the role is combined into one to mitigate their influence.

champion: despite tempestclan's attempts to snuff out this rank, the champion of coyoteclan is a figurehead too popular to completely do away with. they're often picked as a young warrior and, unlike other clans, are often given their god via clan vote. the current champion is rattlerfang, a mischevious and sly cat with a penchant for stirring up trouble for the advisors and saint.

warrior: similar to canon, split up into young and senior warriors though there's no real hard divide in rank and respect they command. coyoteclan tends to hold more senior warriors as young ones tend to be sent to tempestclan. no queen role, pregnant and/or nursing cats are still considered warriors.

apprentice: similar to canon, curriculum is heavy on learning the history of the war and the three clans that coyoteclan once was. tempestclan interference tries to 'skew' history a little more into their favor, make them look better.

elder: the educator role falls here, the cats who come into conflict most with tempestclan advisors and saints. similar to canon.

boarclan

leader: have up to two leaders, decided through merit though can be challenged through combat. mentioned prior, but they used to have up to four leaders until this resulted in a bloody civil war. focus on negotiations with other clans and are often travelling from camp to camp to ensure everything is up and running.

deputy: choose up to four deputies to run four of the camps with the fifth being run by their healer. deputies are busy, they are essentially leaders of the camps they're assigned to when their leader is off in another camp. it's a highly intense position that's meant to prepare them or even intentionally deter them from leadership. if you can't handle running a camp, you can't handle leadership.

healer: similar to canon, in charge of healing and interpretation from spirits and gods alike. they run their own small camp that focuses on healing, rehabilitation, herb growth, and so on. it's not uncommon for apprentices to spend a few weeks at the healer's camp assisting the healer to learn from them.

champion: big big clout holding role in boarclan, a celebrity, the guy everybody wants to be. like other clans, the champion is someone who represents boarclan in one on one duels and boarclan loves duels, it's a big ordeal. the current champion is nightstride who represents the god of beasts.

warrior: similar to canon, clout is derived from experience, meaning senior warriors tend to carry more more respect, but young warriors can make a name for themselves through big stunts in combat. no queen rank, pregnant and/or nursing cats are considered warriors, though are sent to the camp furthest away from the borders.

apprentice: curriculum is about experiencing every walk of life, from living a moon in each camp to assisting the healer to participating in battle tournaments. since boarclan has no official educator, their less than clean history gets swept under the rug and apprentices have a skewed idea of their clan's reputation.

elder: similar to canon, they reside in the camp furthest from the border.

cardinalclan

(note: they are ordered in the hierarchy of the clan, with the top commanding the most respect and the bottom being those, well, at the bottom of the pecking order)

king/queen/monarch: similar to canon, a cat with absolute power in their clan, though they do receive guidance. descend from a long line of leaders where the eldest (literal first born in case of litters) is picked. oversees negotiations with the other clans and almost always accompanied by their magistrates. wear a crown of cardinal wears to represent their status.

next-in-line: self-explanatory, the next cat to become leader. spends most of their time pre-leadership being trained for it by the magistrates, often works with the head of kitchen, hunting, and construction to better understand the clan

magistrate: advisors to the monarch and mentors to next-in-line, as well as help handle in-clan problems that do not require the monarch's attention.

cleric: act similar as to in canon, being both a healer and an interpreter for spirits and the gods. they often report to the magistrates first and in turn the magistrates use that to advise the monarch.

monarch's kin: self-explanatory, those in the 'royal family'. this extends only to the grandparents, parents, and siblings of the monarch. note: despite this rank technically holding quite a bit of respect with it, mallardsong's antics have definitely put a dent in whatever clout she had (not that she minds).

champion: similar to the other clans, though must be a senior warrior and have had an apprentice. chosen through a series of trials in which any senior warrior can compete. the current champion of the clan is crowfoot, who also serves as one of the magistrates and represents the god of creation and art.

educator: much more pronounced role in cardinalclan, lessons for kittens start young with learning basic history, tail symbols and more. often have a dedicated den that acts like a classroom for them. simultaneously, they provide private lessons to the monarch's kin and next-in-line early on. report back to the magistrates on the progress of the kittens and can hold back those they feel need more time learning before becoming a squire.

head of kitchen: similar to other clans, in charge of processing foods and preparing meals. serve the monarchs and magistrates their meals first, meaning any slip up of the food is on them.

head of hunting: similar to other clans, in charge of monitoring prey levels, predators, and so on.

head of construction: in charge of camp repairs and, special to cardinalclan, art! the cardinalclan camp is beautiful on the inside, with the head often overseeing art projects, sculptures, and more. i think cardinalclan cats in this era would be super into abstract art.

elder: retired warrior, similar to canon. they command respect for their long service to the clan and often live a luxurious retirement.

guardian: cats who take care of pregnant and/or nursing cats, and/or the kittens themselves. can be a permanent or temporary rank, with those giving birth often taking on the role of guardian if they wish to be more involved in their litter. long-term guardians command a great deal of respect and work directly with the educator.

senior warrior: self-explanatory, hold rank over junior warriors and get access to better sleeping quarters. these are the cats first chosen for squires, positions as heads, educators, or even magistrates.

junior warrior: self-explanatory, often chosen for less than ideal patrols, jobs, and more.

squire: the equivalent of apprentices, start out at the bottom as they learn. while they do have a designated mentor, any cat, even junior warriors, can call on a squire for assistance or completion of tasks.

tempestclan

the tempest star: the leader of tempestclan, though only in appearance. they are the voice of the saints orders, the one who issues their commands while keeping the appearance that they are being spoken to from the god of cats. usually groomed from a young age to take on the position, all cats chosen to take this position are renamed to tempeststar. the only responsibilities they have complete control of are naming ceremonies. the tempest star is not allowed to take a mate or have kits and, if for some reason they have them when chosen (though this is rare), are expected to disavow their mate and kits. still figuring this out, but wear a "crown"/headwear composed of whittled down antlers.

saint: eight cats who oversee patrols, hunting, education, healing, and communing with the god of cats. they are a council of cats who work to maintain the control of the clan through heavy emphasis on religious values. they are often all toms, with she-cat saints being rare to nonexistent. picked from long lineages in which cats, similar to the tempest star, are groomed from a young age to take on the position.

warrior: similar to canon, though there's less a generational split and more of a split between tempestclan born, coyoteclan born, and 'outsiders'.

disciple: the equivalent of the apprentice role, similar split with warriors in terms of where a cat was born. though, they tend to start getting along by the end of their discipleship.

queen and queen aid: pregnant and/or nursing cat and take on the queen rank, confined to camp and expected to take care of their kittens. depending on their social rank in the clan, they can be assigned "aids", cats who will assist them during their pregnancy and in rearing the children.

elders: very rarely does a tempestclan cat make it the role of elder, and they often have a short lifespan. saints aren't about this role, but the promise of a life of peace after long service is still a useful tool in maintaining the loyalty of their warriors.

ranks to add and expand on:

mentor systems in each clan. i think for simplicity, i'll keep them similar to canon with one cat being assigned a teacher role and a discouragement of kin training kin.

healer/equivalents apprentice; how one becomes that. some clans are by request, others require communing with ancestors and the gods.

tempestclan should have a specialized saints-in-training role, but i'd like the rank name to be less of a mouthful lol

elaborating more on the elder and apprentice roles, elders have more pronounced social roles depending on the clan. i know in canon some cats have them oversee burials, but im not sure if i want to keep that (why are we making peepaw drag bodies)

School bell rings

"Oi, Y/n Wakatoshi!" Hana smacks your shoulder. Hana has been your best friend since you were 8 years old. You two met at the volleyball club at your old school, where you became known as the "killer duo"—a nickname you both hate. Hana is super outgoing and always happy, and she loves being your setter in tournaments. You look at her with a confused expression.

"Don't look at me like that, man. It's our dream! This place is huge, and Hybe University is so expensive!" she exclaims, grinning at the school. You're walking beside her, drinking your favorite beverage since you were 10 years old. "Okay, so our schedule… OMG! We have the same classes until the end of the year!" Hana laughs, thrilled that she won't be lonely with you around.

As you both find your classroom, Hana peeks through the door and sees a teacher already inside. "Are we late?" she asks, glancing at you. "No," you reply, putting your phone back in your pocket. The teacher approaches both of you.

"Oh my… both of you are so tall! I'm Ms. Suki," she says, offering her hand for a handshake. Hana shakes her hand with a smile. "Hi, Ms. Suki. This is Y/n. She's not a fan of physical contact with other people," Hana explains, rubbing her neck. "Oh, I see. Well, that's fine. Let's go in and introduce yourselves," Ms. Suki says, opening the door wider to let you both in.

As you walk into the classroom, you can feel everyone staring at you, including the boys. Yes, both of you are tall—you're 196 cm, and Hana is 189.5 cm. Facing the front, you notice some of the girls at the back looking shocked, and one of them seems familiar. Hana starts the introductions.

"Hi, everyone! I'm Hana Habia. I'm 19 years old, 189.5 cm tall, and I love playing volleyball with Y/n," she says, bowing and then smiling at you. "Oh, hi. I'm Y/n Wakatoshi. I'm also 19, and I'm 196 cm tall," you say, bowing and then taking a sip of your drink.

"Yahhh!!! We have 'NEW' classmates today!" Hanni exclaims, looking at her members. "I hope they're kind. You know I hate bullies," Danielle pouts. "Some rumors said they were girls, so maybe we can be friends with them," Minji says, chewing bubble gum. "Yeah, and they sai—" Hyein is cut off by their teacher.

"Okay, class, let's give them a warm welcome," Ms. Suki announces.

NewJeans is shocked by your height and looks. Hanni nudges Minji repeatedly. "Yes, Hanni, I'm not blind—they are tall as hell," Minji mutters. All the students are taken aback.

[ Your POV]

Ms. Suki directs you both to your seats. "Hana, Y/n, you can take those empty seats in the middle row." As you make your way to the seats, you can hear whispers and feel the stares following you. Hana plops down with a grin, and you sit beside her, quietly sipping your drink.

The class begins, and Ms. Suki starts with the usual first-day introductions and a brief overview of the semester. Your mind drifts off a bit as you survey the classroom. Your eyes land on the familiar girl from earlier—she's part of the group at the back, all wearing matching outfits. You realize they're NewJeans, the popular K-pop group.

As the class progresses, Hanni, who sits behind you, taps your shoulder. You turn around, and she smiles warmly. "Hey, I'm Hanni. Welcome to Hybe University," she says softly.

You nod, returning the smile. "Thanks."

During the break, Hana excitedly talks about the class with you, while you notice the NewJeans members glancing your way, seemingly curious about you and Hana. After a few moments, Minji approaches with a friendly wave.

"Hi, I'm Minji. You two seem really cool. We were thinking maybe we could all have lunch together?" she suggests.

Hana looks at you with sparkling eyes. "What do you think, Y/n?"

You shrug slightly but smile. "Sure, why not?"

At lunchtime, you find yourselves at a large table in the cafeteria, surrounded by NewJeans and a few of their friends. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with everyone sharing stories and laughs. You learn that NewJeans are not just talented performers but also down-to-earth and fun to be around.

After lunch, in the bustling hallway of Hybe University

As you and Hana are walking back to class with NewJeans, you're deep in conversation about the latest volleyball strategies and upcoming tournaments. Suddenly, you hear someone calling out your names.

"Y/n! Hana!" The voice belongs to Coach Tanaka, the head coach of Hybe University's volleyball team. He approaches you both with a determined look on his face, flanked by several team members who look equally eager.

"Yes, Coach?" Hana responds, her eyes lighting up with curiosity.

"I've heard about your impressive records from your old school," Coach Tanaka begins, glancing at the clipboard in his hand. "Your coach from back home sent us your stats, and they're phenomenal. We're in need of strong players this season, and I'd like to invite both of you to join our volleyball team."

You and Hana exchange excited glances. Joining the Hybe University volleyball team had always been part of your dream, but you didn't expect it to happen so quickly.

"We'd love to, Coach!" Hana exclaims before you can respond, her enthusiasm bubbling over.

Coach Tanaka grins. "Great! We have practice this evening at 5 PM. I’d love for you both to join us and meet the rest of the team. How does that sound?"

"Perfect," you reply, feeling a surge of excitement. "We'll be there."

As Coach Tanaka and the team walk away, the NewJeans members crowd around you, equally thrilled.

"That's amazing!" Minji says, her eyes wide with excitement. "We have to come and watch your practice!"

"Definitely," Hanni adds. "We’ll be your cheer squad."

Later that evening, at the volleyball court

You and Hana arrive at the gymnasium, changed into your athletic gear and ready for practice. The atmosphere is electric, with the sounds of bouncing balls and sneakers squeaking on the polished floor. The rest of the team is already warming up, and Coach Tanaka waves you over.

"Everyone, gather up!" Coach Tanaka calls, and the team forms a circle around him. "These are our new recruits, Y/n and Hana. They come highly recommended, and I'm confident they'll be great assets to our team."

The team welcomes you warmly, and you and Hana quickly join in the warm-ups. As practice progresses, it becomes clear that your skills blend seamlessly with the team’s dynamics. Hana's precise sets and your powerful spikes impress everyone, including the coach.

From the bleachers, you can see NewJeans cheering you on, their support adding to your motivation. The practice session ends with a friendly scrimmage, where you and Hana demonstrate why you were known as the "killer duo." Your teamwork is fluid and intuitive, leaving both your new teammates and spectators in awe.

After practice, Coach Tanaka gathers everyone again. "Fantastic work, everyone. Y/n, Hana, you two fit right in. Welcome to the team."

Breathless but exhilarated, you and Hana nod, grinning from ear to ear. As you walk off the court, NewJeans rushes over, their excitement infectious.

"You guys were incredible!" Danielle says, practically bouncing with energy.

"Thanks," you reply, feeling a warm sense of accomplishment. "It feels great to be part of the team."

Hana wraps an arm around your shoulders, her face glowing with happiness. "This is just the beginning, Y/n. We're going to achieve great things here."

With your best friend by your side and a new team to support you, the future at Hybe University looks brighter than ever. And with NewJeans cheering you on, you know you'll always have a support system, both on and off the court.

This was actually extremely close between 7PM and 1AM! All week it was going back and fourth between who was in the lead, and many times when I checked (and I checked often) the two were at a perfect 50/50! If you personally wanted to consider this match up a tie, I wouldn't blame you!

And that's the blog! I have no intentions to run any more tournaments. There are less than a week of new "which version of this K.K. song is best" polls, which I will post data for when they all close, and those winter tracks I've queued up will post through January 2nd, but otherwise this blog is basically over! This blog started up in February so I had a pretty fun year with all of you! I'll be posting a full overview of all the things I ran in about two weeks after those KK polls finish up.

Nigel's Book Details: Spread Two

Using the order in which each spread is presented in the scene where Alex finally reads through Nigel's book, this is the second spread.

The text included at the top left of the page is illegible, sadly. However, the handwriting seen here leads me to believe that it is Nigel's own notes, rather than an excerpt cut or photocopied from another book. This becomes apparent when compared to a sample of his handwriting taken from one of his notebooks, as below.

Map

The left side of the page features a map larger than the page itself and thus folded over. This map clearly shows the Levant, presumably at the time of the Crusades since that is the focus of Nigel's mythology. The color of the paper and the style of the map suggest that this item was pulled out of a fairly old book. There are probably thousands of maps drawn of this area in this time period, and there is sadly no way to identify this specific map or where it came from.

Just to give an overview of what this map is presenting, here are a few other maps of the area in this time period. The fourth map included below is from my post regarding the Battle of Forbie.

The Knights: Brass Rubbings of Tomb Effigies

The right side of the page centers on one large, very clear image. These three figures are very clearly knights wearing armor and carrying weapons and shields. I recognized the imagery and was able to track down a great deal of information regarding this item.

These are reproductions (rubbings) of monumental brass, "a type of engraved sepulchral memorial once found through Western Europe, which in the 13th century began to partially take the place of three-dimensional monuments and effigies carved in stone or wood. Made of hard latten or sheet brass, let into the pavement, and thus forming no obstruction in the space required for the services of the church, they speedily came into general use, and continued to be a favourite style of sepulchral memorial for three centuries." There are possibly around 4000 of these effigies remaining in English churches in the present day. The practice of recording brasses through a process of rubbing originates from the Victorian Gothic Revival.

Knight 1: Sir Roger de Trumpington, d. 1289

He is in the cross-legged position found on the earliest brasses and in three-dimensional recumbent statues. This may allude to a knight's participation in a crusade, since the Knights Templar were often represented in effigies with their legs crossed in honor of the cross. Others believe the position means the person was a benefactor of the church. In 1270, he accompanied Prince Edward, Henry III's heir, on the seventh Crusade to free the Holy Land. eight years later the prince, now King Edward I, drew up a list of 38 knights to take part in a tournament at Windsor Park; one participant was Sir Roger de Trumpington. Sir Roger thus used the tilting helmet seen on his brass---indeed, the helmet has a staple on top to hold his crest or a lady's kerchief. He is the only known Crusader to be represented in a brass in England.

Knight 2: Sir Robert de Setvans(or Septvans), d. 1306

From a brass in St Mary's Church, Chartham, Kent. Sir Robert was custodian of Rochester Castle during the reign of Edward I and fought during the wars against the Scots. He died in 1306. In chain mail armour. His surcoat, ailettes and shield charged with winnowing fans, his armorial device. His name means seven fans. Father of Joan de Cobham.

Knight 3: Sir John Daubernon, d. 1277

The earliest brass now extant is that of 1277 at Stoke d’Abernon. The figure of Sir John Daubernon shows the armour which had been worn for the last three centuries. He is in chain mail with coif de mailles, hawberk and chausses complete, but the junctions of these are not distinct. Single-pointed prickspurs are buckled round the ankles. The only sign of the coming change to plate armour are the genowilléres, which protect the knees and are adorned with a fine pattern. They were probably at first made of leather, but later were of plate. Over the mail is a linen surcoat, drawn tight round the waist by a cord. Suspended upon his left shoulder is his shield, small and heater-shaped, charged with his arms: azure, a chevron or. The ground of the shield is in actual enamel—an almost unique feature. The cross-handled sword is attached to a broad belt and hangs in front of the body. This is the only brass which shows the lance. His feet rest on a lion, which is said to signify that he fell in battle. His legs are not crossed, unlike the other knights of the Surcoat Period.

The indents in the marble surrounding his brass form the letters of his inscription, now lost since all the brass letters sunk into the indents are missing. It reads as follows: SIR: JOHAN: DAUBERNOUN: CHIVALER: GIST: ICY: DEU: DE: SA: ALME: EYT: MERCY. (Sir John D'Aubernoun, knight, lies here. God have mercy on his soul.") A Roger D'Aubernoun came over from Normandy to England with William the Conqueror in 1066. His name probably derived from the river Aube in Picardy and Burgundy. Gilbert D'Aubernoun, Sir John's father, died in 1236 when his son was still a minor. Sir John became sheriff for the shires (counties) of Surrey and Sussex in 1264 and again in 1266. In 1253, he gained the rights to Albury Manor, as well as judicial authority in his village of Stoke D'Aubernoun. He died before 1278, the year his son, John, received his father's lands.

The Crossed Legs

From an abstract for a journal article regarding this topic:

Since the sixteenth century, both scholarly and popular readings of tomb monuments have assigned a series of interpretations to medieval effigies with crossed legs. These have included the beliefs that the effigies dated from before the Norman Conquest; that they commemorated crusaders, or those who had taken crusading vows; and that they commemorated Knights Templar. The ‘crusader’ theory has proved particularly tenacious, and, although largely discredited by scholars, continues to flourish in folk wisdom.

It would seem that recent scholarship has debunked this connection, but due to the paywall gatekeeping bullshit of Academia, I haven't been able to find the exact scholarship in question. Since the idea remains persistent, we can assume that Nigel thought of the knights depicted as being connected to the Templars and therefore worthy of inclusion in his bible. To go one step further into speculation, perhaps he even had personal reasons for including these three, such as common ancestry.
