desert bandits is my ongoing zelda oc fiction (adventure/slow burn romance) centred around the yiga and the gerudo.
aubri is losing hope after a near-fatal gibdo attack leaves her mother suffering from an incurable illness. unluckily for her, the only person who knows anything about it is...a yiga spy!? recently thrown in the gerudo cells after a failed assassination attempt on the princess, he offers to help aubri find the cure in exchange for his freedom. but can aubri really trust him? she reckons about as far as she can throw him. which would be . extremely far actually scratch that. post cancelled until i find a better idiom.
there are other plotlines involving canon characters, such as josha's attempts to unravel a conspiracy in kakariko, which in turn lies at the centre of master kohga's next grand plan.
if you're interested in the sheikah banishment, hyrule's bloody history of greed and hatred, or ever thought to yourself 'man that one yiga who turned into a cucco to get the drop on link was kind of a diva no cap, what life choices led him to this?' then it's worth giving this a try.

Desert Bandits: Chapters 1-3, Ao3
the first few chapters of my yiga-centric fic have been uploaded to ao3. it follows a gerudo woman and a yiga footsoldier forming a temporary truce to find the cure for a mysterious illness.
it's all about exploring the relationship the yiga have with the sheikah and gerudo. it's focused on my ocs (it's quite difficult to write yiga characters otherwise!) but will also feature zelda as she joins the lucky clover gazette, purah being a big sis to josha as they investigate the yiga clan's next big scheme, and master kohga going shield-surfing to escape his problems.
chapters 1-2 introduce aubri and her revenge quest against the yiga spy who tried to kill her many years ago. ch.3 has zelda and riju thwart an assassination, except this time he doesn't escape. one captured footsoldier doesn't seem like much, but a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. an interrogation may yield useful info on their next plot, if it doesn't blow up in their faces.

The Path to Paradise, The Road to Ruin
A Tears of the Kingdom retelling of the Dragon's Tears
Rated T
Beta-read by @rebeccabobecca
Zelda x Ganondorf
Chapter 4: Knowing, and Being Known
The Gerudo walked slowly towards the King and Queen seated on the dais at the head of the courtyard. The chief’s eyes kept wandering through the crowd. He seemed to be looking for someone other than the King he was ostensibly there to parlay with.  The man’s sweeping gaze finally caught her own, amber meeting emerald, and her breath caught in her throat. He seemed just as startled, stumbling slightly in his confident stride. Most of the onlookers probably didn’t notice, but Zelda felt that stumble mirrored in herself, caught flat footed and fumbling. Yes, she knew this man. And it seemed that somewhere in his soul, he knew her too.  He broke off his stare, no longer sweeping through the crowd but fixated on Rauru and Sonia ahead of him. It seemed he had found what he had been looking for. The prickling, staticky feeling Zelda had been feeling all morning felt supercharged by the moment of locking eyes with the strange man from the desert. Hylia had something in store for them both, she knew that for certain. What it was, only time would tell.

Thoughts I’ve had about Hyrule while playing TotK
Warning these are a little unhinged bear with me. Also possible spoilers? I don’t think there are but like. Read at your own risk.
So Zelda is definitely a descendant of Rauru&Sonia. So they definitely had at least one baby before they died. Who raised it? Sonia’s family? Did the living sages co-parent the child? Did they just entrust the child to castle staff? Do Zonai walk out the womb able to take care of themselves?
In the same vein, have royal Hylian’s lifespans been slowly getting shorter as they’ve married non-royal Hylians? I’m assuming Zonai had long lifespans if they were considered so godly, so a half-Hylian half-Zonai probably lived a long ass time, but as you keep adding Hylains with no genetic connection to Zonai I’d think it’d shorten it over time? I’m no geneticist so idk.
Do you think the rest of Hyrule was super racist toward Gerudos for awhile? Maybe its because I grew up in America and I’m used to people being racist towards a whole race for things a small group did but idk if that’s how people in Hyrule would be, especially since they had Gerudo on their side.
Did people want the next Gerudo male to be executed in fear of him turning out like Ganon? And do you think the Gerudo considered it? With how long some lifespans are (like the Zora, possibly royal Hylians? Sheikah live a long time too it looks like) people affected by Ganon might still be alive when the next male was born.
Continuing with Gerudo but less…heavy? Can they reproduce with other races besides Hylians? Like if a Gerudo fell in love with like a Rito would they be able to conceive and potentially have a child? Or does it have to be a Hylian?
Do Gerudo only produce other Gerudo??? Like will she always spawn a Gerudo no matter what? Can they have pregnancies that result in boys or non-gerudo women?
On the subject of producing children. Can Zora have children with Hylians? Because like. King Dorephan did not give a fuck about an heir when Mipha was in love with Link. Is it because they could reproduce? Did it have to do with the vast different in lifespans, so he figured she could have an heir with a Zora later in life? Did he just assume Sidon wouldn’t fall for a Hylian himself and create an heir with his future spouse?
HOW DO GORON REPRODUCE??? I have no other thoughts around this. Just. How. My brain is like. Fucky magic shit. Like a couple decides they want a child and find a suitable rock, then pray to Hylia and eventually the rock is imbued with life.
Zora pregnancies. How do they work? Is it like shark pregnancies? Or like other fish pregnancies? (i don’t know anything about shark pregnancies tbh. Or fish pregnancies in general) Because I think Yona is like a manta ray, yeah? Like Muzu? Because looking at Mipha&Sidon you’d think a pregnancy results in one baby? But is that normal?
Okay also like. The Zora sleep in those communal pools. Do they…do they have sex in there? In front of the children? Do they have separate like mating pools? Or are Zora children just like. Desensitized to it like some sort of Brave New World type shit. Or is mating just like. “I want babies!” “Me too!” Implants female with eggs. And that’s it??? Am I thinking too human with this??? Idfk.
I really just want a whole ass lesson on everything revolving around reproduction with all the different races in Hyrule and the possibilities of having mixed children.
Back to Gerudo. On the subject of thinking about things too long. Gerudo anatomy. What if they’re like hyenas? Like. I don’t know much about hyena anatomy besides the fact that the females have bigger dicks than the males. And like. Gerudo’s have Big Dick Energy so like. What if they actually have dicks?
On a more serious note. I’d also like a whole ass lesson on the life cycles of the individual races and average life expectancy.
That’s it for now. Why am I like this.

Since I teased a bit of the Zora to the project I'm doing, I actually made a full reference thing for Keiron and his sibling who I've named Tulip. Also, I am going to drop not just the Sidon and Yona designs I'm going to use but also the remaining of the other characters I've taken the time to design. I'll put the three new kids in their own separate posts and try and develop the remaining designs a few more. Until then, have these.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was actually the middle of the night for the Sidon and Yona, plus the development of Tulip. In the sketch it uses her and Keiron's old designs.
Also, we shall not question the random Zora egg and the baby Skultulla, those are for much much later. (Small side note, I'm glad I found the proper tag for Yona and that there's a post totk tag.)

Maybe my first post on this blog should be something that's a little more simple, but this wasn't a blog I even expected myself to make so I guess things on here will be spontaneous.
Anyways, here's the chapter one of the Ganondorf origin story fic I'm trying to write.
(I guess I should also post some context to why I even decided to write this, so I'll make a separate post and update with the link here)
Creating a King
"Lady Sashi! You must see this!"
The almost shrill voice followed the desperate sprint of a few Gerudo as they entered the throne room.
"What is wrong? Are we under attack?"
"No, it's..." With a long pause, she announced, "a new king has been born."
Hearing those words, the Chieftain rose from her half relaxed position. She watched as a woman came in, her arms cupped a small bundle of fabric. She reached the throne and dropped to her knees presenting the bundle.
"He's healthy... A healthy baby boy."
Sashi got up, falling to the ground as well as she moved the sheets to better see the child. There was no mistaking it, the sole male--their future king--was peacefully sleeping before her.
Sashi saw the onlookers who cluttered the room. She stood up and with a wave of her hand said, "leave here! Me and this new mother need to have a word in private."
"R-right!"
The room slowly emptied. No matter their orders, the guards grew curious at the phenomenon they hadn't expected to happen in their lifetime. However, the knew to obey their chieftain's words and scattered after a few moments.
Sashi looked to the mother. The only one of their kind to birth a male and saw how she stared at her son.
"What is your name?"
The woman looked up after a second. "Kotake."
"Kotake, this is something none of us are ever fully prepared for. However, as our rule commands, your son will become our king."
Kotake's mouth turned up into a smile and she let out an almost shocked laugh.
"Might I ask how old he is?"
Kotake dropped her gaze. "Only a few days."
Sashi grunted. "Don't lie to me. I wouldn't have asked if I didn't already know."
Kotake swallowed hard. With a trembling hand to her chest she said, "about four months."
"I figured. He looked a bit too old to be a newborn... Why did you keep him a secret for so long?"
"I-I just didn't know what to do."
"You should have brought him here."
"I know I should have, but I didn't know if it would... Be accepted."
"Hm? Did you think we would banish you and your son?"
Kotake didn't have to say anything to answer her. "With the past males bringing our people down a dark path, I wasn't sure how to feel about it." Her words trailed.
"It must have frightened you when you had a son." Sashi looked to the child.
It was hard for her to imagine that this fresh faced youth would grow up to be a vicious monster capable of destroying the entire world as she knew it. However, Sashi knew exactly what she was going to do.
"You have nothing to worry about." Kotake looked to Sashi. "You and anyone else in your family will be moved to the palace walls. Once your are settled, we'll discuss what will happen."
"W-what do you mean?"
Sashi gave her a soft smile. "I don't mean anything bad. If anything I mean the complete opposite."
Kotake still looked worried, but she got up--taking her baby with her.
"So I assume you're going to name him Ganondorf?" Sashi asked returning to her throne.
"Of course."
"Good. Please wait outside while I call Ransi. She'll escort you back to your home, help you collect your things, and help bring you back here."
"Alright, thank you... Lady Sashi."
Kotake started to leave. She was holding on tightly to the baby and Sashi couldn't tell if it was a grasp of adoration or one of suppressed stress.
Regardless, Sashi couldn't treat him like a normal baby. If Kotake was stressed, then maybe he wasn't reacting because that eased him. She didn't want to think like this, but it was hard not to. Hard not to think of the legends that existed before theirs of the horrors one man brought.
Even if they were nothing but slanderous tales meant to vilify their people, she knew better than to think there wasn't any truth to it. She knew some parts of it were true and had a plan in case she lived during the time of their king's birth.
Being lost in thought, she got up and went to the training barracks. Only a few stood continuing their training, but she knew her second-in-command would always be there. The first to arrive and last to leave.
"Ransi?"
Said woman looked from her monitoring and turned to the stairs.
"Yes, Lady Sashi?"
"Come. I need a word with you."
Sashi didn't wait and returned to the throne room where she sat down waiting for Ransi to arrive. She did so promptly and stood in front of her chieftain.
"I believe this news is still unknown to the townspeople, but a young woman named Kotake had given birth to a son."
Ransi's eyes went wide. "S-she has?"
"Yes. We are prepared for this though. I intend to bring her here to live; she'll raise her son and once he is old enough, we'll begin his training so he's able to fulfill his role as king."
Ransi tried to calm herself. "Yes... I... I never expected this to happen."
"We never do. You are aware I did think of a plan in case it did during my reign."
"Are you not upset at your role being revoked?"
"Of course not. We follow every other rule of the Gerudo, what makes this different?" Ransi dropped her gaze and said nothing. "Anyways, he's another hundred years too early to replace me anyways. Until I feel he is fit to govern over our people, he will remain as nothing but a next in line."
Ransi bit her tongue before sighing. "I see..."
"Hm? You seem as if you want to say something."
Ransi kept her eyes cast downward, but she said what was on her mind. "I can't help but worry he'll bring Gerudo Town to ruin. No matter how you attempt to train him, he may feel your rule is problematic and-"
"And nothing. You will refrain from talk like that."
"Urk, I-I didn't mean to disrespect you."
"It's not me you're disrespecting." Sashi looked to the bustling town just outside the walls she resided in. "It's that young man you're affecting. How would you like to be told you're a monster while everyone else fears your very existence?"
Ransi pursed her lips and said nothing.
"So, while he's growing up, you and everyone will treat him no different than the other young girls. In doing so, this should help to keep his mind right."
Ransi gave a curt nod, saying nothing else to the command.
"Good. So, for now, go and assist the young mother. I told her to wait outside for you."
"Right, will do."
Ransi wasted no time and about faced, leaving Sashi to herself once more. She couldn't even hear the noise of the town anymore, all her thoughts here occupied by how the coming years were going to play out.
She knew she would try her best, but nothing could guarantee her success.
"It's all a gamble in the end."
