I have veryyyyyy mixed feelings about the How To Train Your Dragon live action. I really think it is WAY too soon to be adapted. The original came out in 2010, and the the franchise concluded with the third movie and the Homecoming special in 2019. In the trailer, some of the backgrounds look a bit odd/the lighting does not match with the actors, which is common, but also strange for this movie in particular because apparently so much of the set was practical and they shot in Ireland....so that is a little jarring/disappointing. The casting seems a bit off. No hate to Mason or Nico at all. I hope they do end up doing very well!

However I will say this. Toothless is....he looks....just PHENOMINAL. I was speechless. Goosebumps. I am not lying when I say that might be some of the best damn CGI I have ever seen. Credit where credit is due.

I probably will end up watching this movie, if only for Toothless, and although I might not agree with them, I wish no hate upon the cast and crew <3

Things about HTTYD 3 I dont like now that I look back on it

1. Toothless is reeeaally shine by the third movie. Why? I understand his scales should have some light reflection like in the second movie but they went over board.

2. They gave toothless eye ridges?????

3.They really messed up Toothlesses personality in my opinion. He acts more like a giant dog than anything else 70% of the time

4. There was no reason for berk to be overcrowded in that one spot. They could have easily spread out around the whole. We’ve known since the first movie the island was spacious, if there had been at least dragons spread about they could have sounded the alarm for Grimmel’s arrival. 

5. We know from both the movies and series that Berk had enemies. Why were there no patrols. Why were other people not trained to take on the task of protecting the people and there dragons? Their vikings! Completely unacceptable.

6. The dragon’s didn’t even really need to leave new Berk? The island was only accessable by dragon. So people probably wouldn’t know they were up there!

7.Tothless’s horniness. I understand he was lonely, but there was no reason to degrade my king like that.

8. The Lightfury had no story. I think it would have explained a lot if it showed something like her already being the queen of the hidden world. Then some of Toothless’s reactions would have made more sense. 

9. They didn’t take Hiccup’s mom when they went to see the dragons. She deserved to see her best friend!!!

10. Finally, there was absouletly no reason that non of the dragons came back for regular visits. They loved their humans. There was defiently no reason for Toothless not to visit. 

I still love the movie but after thinking about certain scenes and hearing people out, I have a few complaints. NOW the short! I have some words.

Day 27 - Deathsaurus (IDW)

So, what happens here?

I planned to draw a robo-dragon called Deathsaurus on some epic backgound. Then i’ve read that another version of this character (not IDW) had a wife who also could transform into a dragon. And... I remembered THIS meme about dancing Tothless infront of the Light Fury.

After that I simply could not resist doing a sketch of Deathsaurus, his future dragon-wife and Overlord :)

If Furies mate for life, does this mean that Hiccup is Tothless's primary mate?

I keep reading “furies” as “furries” so that’s fun.

And that depends on a few things:

whether you ship Toothcup

the topology of the poly ship if you ship more than Toothcup (toothcupstrid, ltcs, or rare crackships like “the teens and their dragons”)

how much of THW you consider canon

If you’re talking about Toothcup as a romantic/sexual monogamous ship, then yes, Hiccup is Toothless’s primary mate, and THW isn’t canon except for the “furies mate for life” line. If you’re talking about Hictooth as a platonic ship, then no, Hiccup is just a strong bond for the dark derg.

Toothcupstrid is generally either a sort of V shape (Astrid and Toothless have Hiccup as their primary partner and are just drawn closer than they would otherwise because Hiccup loves them both), in which Hiccup *is* Toothless’s primary mate, or a triangle (all three have the same attraction to each of their partners), in which he doesn’t have a primary mate at all. In LTCS, either Light is Toothless’s primary mate (because he’s the only one she’s into and, personally, I’m not into one-sided shipping) with Hiccstrid being a separate rom/sex pair that’s closely linked to NightLight, or Toothless doesn’t have a primary mate, seeing Hiccup and Light (or Hiccup, Light, and Astrid) as the main targets of his affection.

And finally, I usually only pull Light and her backstory from THW, and sometimes the existence of the Hidden World. The only full HTTYD fanfic I’ve written since highschool has been a fix-fic for the atrocious “fantasy must die vikings no longer have dragons because convoluted and immediately contradictory reasoning” ending for a reason. Between that and putting Toothless constantly in poly ships, it’s pretty clear that I sort of ignore Longface McDragonslayer’s claim that furies mate for life.

Besides, dude’s kinda shit at scheming so there’s a pretty good chance he was also just... incorrect about that and probably drawing from captive behavior like that guy who mistakenly put forth that “alpha wolf” theory that’s poisoned the minds of an unfortunate number of people.

"Как приручить дракона" - это самый красивый и захватывающий мультфильм последнего десятилетия. Беззубик самый любимый персонаж. Очень трогательно затронуты проблемы отношений - личные, с питомцами, с родителями и обществом. Все части мультфильма посвящены осознанию собственного места в жизни и положительному восприятию любой новой реальности. Отрисовка драконов изумительна и конечно требует тщательной проработки в костюме. Самый удачный вариант персонажей можно встретить у @arteshru . Очень хотелось бы попасть к ним в момент работы над Беззубиком, чтобы прикоснуться к его лбу, но вряд-ли пустят)) На сегодняшний день мне не встречалась версия лучше, как а прямо стоящем варианте, так и на четырех ногах. Интересно сделать бы такую вертикальную версию, как в клипе, где он репетирует на сцене с актером из сериала "Игры престолов". Очень достоверный вариант, с широкой грудью, а не пузиком. Кстати расположение чешуек там выгодно отличается от мультфильма. Более логично, с сравнении с рептилиями. Для создания идеального варианта возможно потребуется около двух месяцев и затраты тысяч двадцать на материалы. А потом малышня за год ушатает его также, как того, что сделан за две недели) Не могу сказать, что горжусь этими работами. Хочется лучше. Хочется правильнее.
