I’ve already had this fusion in my head for a WHILE. The entire time I’ve just been thinking about Lapis and Jasper’s super toxic fusion and giggling to myself. THE ONLY REASON I LOVE IT SO MUCH IS BECAUSE OF LAPIS’ DECISION TO KEEP JASPER DOWN IN AN ACT OF REVENGE. I LOVE DESERVED REVENGE. I thought it totally fit Ruin and Nexus because of all the harm Nexus inflicts on Ruin.

Ruin has always put morals first and kills anyone who threatens harm against people he cares about. He has nothing left to lose, but gives everything.

Not a ship!! I really like the idea that Solar and Ruin have a “we could’ve been friends” type of relationship that allows a shred of sympathy for one another, but thats basically it.

There’s a lot of SU references here, the first quote is a quote from Lapis herself!! The second dialogue, though, is my own writing!

OTHER CONCEPTS

• Nexus and Ruin are an incomplete fusion, this means they share a fused body, but their minds are still separated. This is very harmful for fusions and highly irregular.

• This fusion would help Nexus avoid his canon death.

• Ruin keeps Nexus hostage instead of letting him die in canon because he holds sympathy for Solar who would not live with himself if Nexus died before he could reach him. He also believes suffering in life is more of a punishment than death is.

• This is based off of complete revenge on Nexus and protection for Solar and the other celestials. Ruin doesn’t believe they deserve a harmful brother like Nexus.

• Ruin, as the fusion, flies off somewhere isolated to stay and focus on suppressing Nexus.

• Nexus has far less power when it comes to controlling the body from the mind while Ruin has all of the experience. Nexus didn’t ever have to face that mind-space suppression while Ruin knows how to take control from both sides.

• Nexus can still torment Ruin psychologically from his position and slowly break Ruin’s spirit. They both now have full access to his own memories, unadulterated.

Look at these two clips and tell me they don’t hold some resemblance.

my hot take on the whole meme/joke about scientists "inventing the Torment Nexus from the classic scifi story 'Please Don't Invent the Torment Nexus'" is that sometimes (not all the time, but sometimes) the guy who wrote Please Don't Invent the Torment Nexus is kind of just a technophobic luddite by modern standards. like i distinctly remember reading a scifi short story from around the 80s where the narrator is a robot engineer, and his apprentice brings him a design for a chip that would let robots create original music, and the narrator reacts by throwing it in the incinerator (even though he recognizes this is futile because his apprentice will just redraw it) and spending the next few pages writing a screed about how robots making art will be the death of Art and Creativity as we know it. and like, yeah, the author gets some credit for predicting this line of discussion a half-century before it was relevant, but i still fundamentally disagree with his central thesis of "only humans can possibly make art and anything that questions that is inherently Evil" just as much as i do when i see it parroted by a picrew icon user on here with 17 checkmarks next to their url. but since he wrote it down in a book 50 years ago instead of dropping it directly in my inbox yesterday, im supposed to consider it a conclusive debunking of my side of the argument? come on now

I think what happened here is that Anon actually observed part of end of a longer process.

First, everyone was using the word squick as OTNF described. Then, Tumblr came along, and a new batch of internet denizens came up with their own slang, which included a lot of professional/academic/clinical/business terminology used flippantly (cf "problematic" and "content consumption" as well as this use of "trigger").

And then the Tumblr kids got a little older and realised that maybe using a serious medical term for "I dislike this fiction" was confusing and inaccurate, and the oldbies were right there to offer them the term that already existed for the concept, squick.

So Anon wasn't around for the heyday of squick and missed the rise of Tumblr's clincal slang, they came along and saw that "trigger" was the word for both a symptom being triggered and for someone disliking something and soaked it up into their vocabulary (which is precisely what us oldbies have been concerned about from the beginning, by the way).

Then Anon saw people start using squick when they think they meant one or other of the comically unrelated meanings of trigger, and wondered why we need a new word when we already have one, not realising that it's an old word and that it was being used to express something that trigger originally did not mean.

Anon, having developed their language use in the Tumblr torment nexus, has probably failed to understand the difference between the medical phenominon of having a symptom triggered and the non-pathological feeling of disgust or discomfort. They likely believe that discomfort and disgust are clinically significant symptoms (this is also something we warned you all about).

Anon's question is less about language, and more about the pathologization of ordinary human emotions.

Hopefully having the difference between a squick and a trigger explained in linguistic terms will help them to depathologize their taste in fiction and live a happier and more comfortable life.

i mentioned this in my tags but its still important. the ableism in this fandom is INSANE. people do not view post-crash curly as human and it shows. ive seen so many animations where hes played around with like a doll. ive seen people genuinely say that curly losing his limbs and skin was a "punishment" by the universe for not helping anya. disability is not a punishment. what happened to him is hell but it is not a punishment for what he's done. it is something that happened to him. and in a similar vein, ive seen people absolve him of any and all guilt now that he's helpless. since he cannot speak or move hes treated like an innocent angel. he is not a human person in so many fans' eyes and its horrible
