Prompt #8 Favorite Scene (again)
Reasons why this scene is amazing.
Porsche rubbing Kinn's back in comfort because Tankhun is genuinely pissed at him even while being incredibly dramatic and Kinn is feeling guilty and absolutely hates to upset his brother.
Not one, not two, but three trained bodyguards completely freaked the hell out and abandoned their charges(well, unless you count Porsche climbing on Kinn's back as some kind of protection) at the sight of "zombie" Pete.
That Yok is there. Tankhun feels close enough to Yok to include her and look, Yok is the first person in Tankhun's life that isn't either related to him or paid by his family in who knows how long, so that's a big deal.
Arm being upset that Tankhun told Pete's ghost to visit his dreams. The little flinch and "why?" look is hilarious.
The fond little face pat and smile that Kinn gives Pete when they realize he's alive, before he's literally knocked out of the way by Arme and Pol mobbing Pete.
The Pete mobbing. Porsche poking his arm to make sure he's really not a ghost before they all pile onto Pete's poor bruised body, my little gang together once more.

simple - alhaitham
Tumblr media
synopsis: in which kaveh says you’re normal. alhaitham disagrees
ship: alhaitham x reader
notes: mistakenly written for a title prompt before realizing it was asked for a specific character
Tumblr media
You’re the simplest person he knows. So incredibly simple, predictable, uncomplicated—sometimes he wonders how you manage to live such a life.
Personally, Alhaitham considers his life simple as well. He wakes up at the same time everyday, completes his work easily, leaves at the usual scheduled time on the hour, makes dinner, and goes to sleep. That is his life day in and out with the occasional change. But you’re not simple the same way he is. Your life isn’t as scheduled. And yet you are still simple.
Truly and irrevocably simple.
You dislike it when he calls you such. But can you blame him? You daily nag him about eating better, and yet everyday he sees you looking guiltily with a bag of greasy food from the Grand Bazaar. You struggle to make decisions and will often ask him for help, yet when he gives you his response, you’ll always choose the opposite option of his suggestion. He finds himself having to scold you everyday for mumbling under your breath while doing paperwork.
When he mentioned his thoughts to Kaveh, the architect grumbled that his observations were not indicative of the makings of a simple person. He said that you were just normal. Every human being had habits like that. But Kaveh was wrong.
You’re not normal. You’re simple.
If you weren’t simple, why else do you have such a disturbingly loud sneeze despite being so manners obsessed? Why else do you purchase so many notebooks despite knowing you’re not going to use a single one? Why else do you lose your pricey pens at the same rate Kaveh loses mora?
You’re simple.
You’re simple to him.
And he can’t stop thinking about it.

i think the reason why i gravitate towards belos on a deeper level a lot more than any of the other characters in toh is bc my preference in characters and stories is in how they are affected by institutions and the messiness that results from understandable character flaws exacerbated by those institutions, whether they are the oppressed or are enabled to become the oppressor. belos is a mix of both in a way that i like — it's possible to read him as nd & left handed (both heavily stigmatized in his day and society) yet both are possible to hide. in the demon realm he yet again had a trait that made him a possible outcast, as he was a lowly human, yet he transformed himself into a magic user through painful mutilation of his skin all so that he could conform to that society, even when it was one he couldn't stand. his conformity in the demon realm supports the idea of him having to conform in the human realm. but because he was enabled for being a white man in the human realm and could reasonably hide anything that made him a nail to be hammered down, he clung to that power and dominion over others that it gave him for the rest of his life like a security blanket, represented literally with him lording his magical prowess over other witches and demons. it's a lot of layers that i think are very fun and i'm 90% sure are unintentional when put together into this cohesive of a picture for reasons i will state later.
compare that against almost every other character in toh (w maybe the exception of darius??) — every good guy has flaws that can reasonably be blamed on other people as a freudian excuse or that are downplayed by the narrative (eg. amity going from an active bully in her debut to a passive enabler of bullying in understanding willow). there's a dire lack of messiness in them all, from their appearance (all the witch kids could easily be mistaken for humans, fairly good looking ones at that, if it weren't for the ears), to how they deal with pain, etc. it gave me the impression that they really wanted only the villain to be allowed to be messy and ugly because those are traits for villains, when i think it's a lot nicer to see stigmatized traits (ugliness, childishness, hallucinations, mental illness, etc) in everyone. i really wanted the heroes to get in on that kind of action too.
another thing that drew me away from connecting with and trying to deeply understand most of the characters in toh is the lack of meaningful bigotry on the isles. i'm not criticizing the race-, queer-, and gender-blindness of the demon realm on an objective level bc the writers wanted to accomplish a v specific thing w that bit of world building and that's ok and it's a wonderful aspiration for usamerica. it's ok if it's not for Me and the world can't have a million yasuda sayos (i say with difficulty through tears). but because there is a lack of bigotry in what's supposed to be an oppressive society and there's no highlighted underclass in its place (covenless witches should theoretically be the underclass, but the show tends to undermine this aspect of its society, eg. letting wild witches like eda and luz roam perfectly free and having the government-funded school allow witches to study multiple covens without pushback from said government funding them), it becomes just another part of the show that makes it so much more squeaky clean and made me disinterested in a lot of the characters — i connect so much better with characters when i feel their pain and struggle against a world that can't find it in itself to care about them, witnessing all the ways they try to fight for their right to be happy frantically and imperfectly, and that is what makes their happiness so meaningful to me and makes me care abt them deeply.
contrast that w belos: i really love that he came from a society infamous for its conservatism and religious extremism grounded in the real world, and it's so thought provoking for me to think abt the layers of that society and how he interacted with it. which parts he rejected, conformed to, wanted to conform to, etc. that's a challenging character to understand (and then, after having fully understood them, condemn with so much more feeling) and i adore the idea of that being intentional if it wasn't for the fact that almost every other character in toh is boringly easy to understand because they lack enough material in the layers that can make them feel like real, messy people to challenge the viewer in a meaningful way. (side note: a lot of the layers created simply by belos being from colonial connecticut also disappear if you're solely looking at his background based on the text in the show, bc you're expected to fill in the gaps with, like, wikipedia basically lol. similar thing w luz where they show very little of her being bullied/outcasted bc of her adhd and you're mostly supposed to fill that in w your own experience & irl knowledge of adhd.) it results in the show being weirdly liberal about the bigotry/lack of bigotry certain characters have and only being able to halfheartedly say "idk some people are just evil i guess", instead of examining the material conditions that shape people to act the way they do. Bigot Phil vs Weirdgirl Luz could've been "these characters are shaped by their circumstances and have been encouraged to respectively become their worst/best selves through ideals instilled in them" but instead it's "some people are bad and we won't attempt to look at what made them 'bad' in the first place" and then pretending this is a groundbreaking message and not the laziest takeaway they could've possibly written.
basically i like my characters messy with hearts that you have to go out of your way to understand and sympathize with who come from understandable circumstances and i think all girls should be allowed to kill freely. i hope you can understand my position.

Number #1 for the bugsnax ask game?
#1 "Favorite Character"
My favorite character is Floofty Fizzlebean! I adore mad scientist, unhinged, and 'mean' characters. Floofty hits all of those! Their character has so much potential for character development and if they were just a tad bit less degrading to the other characters, including the Journalist, I could find myself absolutely loving them more! They are almost tied in first with Chandlo and Snorpy tbh lol. I love almost all of the characters equally (except a certain two) so this was a tough pick.
(Mean is in apostrophes because I don't like totally mean bitchy characters. But I do like mean characters that COULD learn to be less mean with some development. Like Floofty. Spam this dude (genderneutral) with some development and canon events then bam! Freshly cooked family friendly one-legged fan-fic ready Floofty)
Tumblr media
(How I determine my favorite character is also a very weird process. I LOVE talking to Chandlo much MUCH more. But he's in 2nd. Who my favorite character is depends on who I read about most in fanfictions. I'm one of those people who likes seeing certain characters suffer, and those certain characters end up with a certain fondness in my heart. I'd hate to made Chandlo Suffer. But Floofty? Bring it on. MAKE THEM FEEL SHIT DAMMIT THEY NEED IT. *throws them into a tupperware container and shakes it vigorously*)

Hi I know this is out of nowhere and sorry if you answered it before. Also totally ok if you don’t want to answer
But your blog got me super interested in the redacted asmr thing
I did some research and you seem to know a lot about so do you know if there’s any like, chronological order I should watch them?
Love your blog!
Absolutely no worries! I like getting stuff to respond to, it's the opposite of a bother <3
So Redacted Audio, formerly Redacted ASMR, is a channel on youtube with a, quite frankly, massive amount of audio, and since it's been running for over 4 years now it can be a LOT to sort through. Fortunately, he's done a really good job curating and organizing playlists for the different speaker-characters.
Everything is within the same universe, and many of the characters have interacted with each other. The context is that the location is a fictional city named Dahlia set somewhere in California, which is a "cornerstone" city for magical society. The best way to get a solid rundown on magic and the setting is to listen through the Freelancer Season 1 playlist.
This one is already arranged in chronological order* and also has the benefit of giving a sampler of sorts for a wider variety of speakers. One thing to be aware of ahead of time: While this was actively being published, Erik hadn't decided who the listener-character (nicknamed Freelancer) would be romancing, so it starts off with a lot of potential toward all of them except Caelum. As it went, there were polls in the discord server that he used to run, and popular consensus eventually narrowed it down to Gavin. The first time I listened was after all of that, and I was more fond of Damien, but I'm personally pleased with Gavin now, and this playlist has been one of my favorites to just revisit if I'm bored.
*Well, mostly. There was a point where the channel got a strike for some of the audios being too spicy and he removed and/or edited some of them to try to avoid being demonetized. The first Gavin audio is one of the ones that got edited, and #3 on the playlist accidentally got relocated. It's been a long time, but I think it was originally after what's now #6, the second Caelum audio.
Aside from that one as a good introduction to the channel as a whole, there are some "main" characters that have had the most attention.
One is a group of wolf shifters: David, the current head of the pack (Chronological for his listener. A lot of people aren't super fond of the earliest ones for him, #3-5, because the character evolved a bit and they aren't really representative any longer) Asher, his second Milo, another pack member, which is absolutely underselling him, he's one of my favorites
There are a couple of vampires: Vincent, the OG for the channel Sam, a common favorite who's listener is a member of David's pack
While most of the playlists are specific to character, there are a few thematic ones as well, all of which are chronological within themselves. Now, chronology with respect to each other can start to get a bit confusing, because of how long it's taken for some of them to play out.
If you want to get a feel for the characters before worrying too much about timeline, I'd listen through most playlists as they're arranged with one main caveat:
When you hit the audios titled Inversion, give those a pause until you've listened to more speakers. Inversion was a huge crossover he did that has 10+ speakers involved.
A personal favorite has been Vega. I'm actually super not fond of the first audio he's in, which is also in the Freelance list, so I skip that one when I relisten. The first one in this list is that one with the Freelancer, but the second and onward has a demon listener nicknamed Warden. We just got an update on his story today/last night and I've been a little unwell about it 🙃
I am realizing I could go on and on and on and I kind of have, so I'm going to stop there. Hopefully that's enough to dip your toes in. I'll gladly help out with any follow-up questions, too :3

OH YEAH ALSO finally watched the FNAF movie with the coolest person on Earth, 11/10 movie, Mike looked ready to curl up into a fetal position on the floor and burst into tears at all moments, he is so me, would watch again
#fnaf#fnaf movie#five nights at freddy's#mike schmidt#anyway. i loved the end scene where the four of them do the thing with afton#i was also extremely glad the springlock scene was very palatable and not gory or overly vivid because i can't and won't watch that stff#when i tell you i HOLLERED when cory showed up. almost cried. my BOY#cory is the king of youtube fr fr. nobody does it like him#he's on a hiatus again but we the samurai will patiently wait for the shogun's return#i am getting off-topic. matpat's nametag said “ness” which was extremely funny#afton was in literally two maybe three scenes tops which i was not expecting but he stole the show ofc. very spazzy. dig it#vanessa was so mysterious??#i kinda loved her and mike's dynamic though. so very silly the pair of them (running from real-life manifestations of fictious characters)#I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW FOXY WAS IN THE MOVIE. THAT MADE ME SO HAPPY#foxy's always been my favorite. my boy. he can have a little murder. as a treat#VANESSA HAD A GUN!! VERY COOL AND GOOD#she barely even shot afton though. honeybun literally had the upper hand by a mile#that man did not have a long-range weapon. he was entirely at her mercy. if she'd shot him all the animatronics would've instantly helped#still like her for some reason though. she permanently has the default sim expression etched on her face#also i don't know if y'all saw but in the credits it says foxy's humming was my boy kellen goff!!#mike was so STRESSED and so DISTRACTED the ENTIRE TIME i see so much of myself in him#can we also agree josh hutcherson looks great with a goatee like that is eons ahead of the peeta look (never read/watched himger gims ok)

I'm so tired and I need to go to bed but I just HAVE to ramble about "A Message of Art" because in one episode the Apocalypse Players have already managed to lay the groundwork for some really interesting themes about the need to perform creativity/sophistication and the thin line between art "subject" and object, especially when it comes to female agency.
Jane Harnsworth-Wright is immensely wealthy and powerful as an art dealer and carves out a place for herself in the circuit of the art world as a woman. But the control and status that affords her also makes her complicit in the objectification of other women AND highlights how she is trapped in her own way. She still needs to polish and present herself and worries what will happen when her beauty is gone. Edwina Alexander, the "piece of all pieces" as labeled by her, fully embraces the fact that her beauty can get her whatever she wants. The tension and covetousness of their relationship as art dealer and muse: "I [Jane] tuck a finger under Edwina's chin as if I'm examining a piece of art. And I think in that moment all of you realize, I buy what I want" (🤨❓️🏳️‍🌈). Edwina is "delectable." Yet they also have this practical alliance because they both understand exactly how this whole scene functions. Jane says, "I feel like you'll be my best friend at this party from this point forward." Later, Edwina remarks, "I think [Jane] can be helpful to me, weirdly, so I want to keep you a little bit close." They can be honest with each other and talk about what "beauty" really means in this context. Jane has a very pragmatic view of how the salon works, seeing it as more transactional than a celebration of culture: "Do you want to be an artist, or do you want to be the subject of artists, or do you want to buy art? And there's nothing else to be found here. Which is it, darling?" Edwina resists this classification and coming into the salon with her own agenda: "I'm interested in people and where they're from and what life's all about really... so, subject of art, what do you mean by that, Jane?" Her beauty is a tool that gets her in the door but she doesn't identify as a muse even though everyone sees her that way.
Not to mention the tiny glimpse of what's going on with Bathsheba. "LaRouche...is looking around to sort see if anyone else is looking at her, in a way that someone might he showing something off, like how you, Clovis, might be showing off one of your paintings." Bathsheba's beauty making her a threat to Edwina because women are treated like accessories and aesthetic accents to the environment. Not to mention how homoerotic this entire situation is
