OH YEAH ALSO finally watched the FNAF movie with the coolest person on Earth, 11/10 movie, Mike looked ready to curl up into a fetal position on the floor and burst into tears at all moments, he is so me, would watch again
#fnaf#fnaf movie#five nights at freddy's#mike schmidt#anyway. i loved the end scene where the four of them do the thing with afton#i was also extremely glad the springlock scene was very palatable and not gory or overly vivid because i can't and won't watch that stff#when i tell you i HOLLERED when cory showed up. almost cried. my BOY#cory is the king of youtube fr fr. nobody does it like him#he's on a hiatus again but we the samurai will patiently wait for the shogun's return#i am getting off-topic. matpat's nametag said “ness” which was extremely funny#afton was in literally two maybe three scenes tops which i was not expecting but he stole the show ofc. very spazzy. dig it#vanessa was so mysterious??#i kinda loved her and mike's dynamic though. so very silly the pair of them (running from real-life manifestations of fictious characters)#I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW FOXY WAS IN THE MOVIE. THAT MADE ME SO HAPPY#foxy's always been my favorite. my boy. he can have a little murder. as a treat#VANESSA HAD A GUN!! VERY COOL AND GOOD#she barely even shot afton though. honeybun literally had the upper hand by a mile#that man did not have a long-range weapon. he was entirely at her mercy. if she'd shot him all the animatronics would've instantly helped#still like her for some reason though. she permanently has the default sim expression etched on her face#also i don't know if y'all saw but in the credits it says foxy's humming was my boy kellen goff!!#mike was so STRESSED and so DISTRACTED the ENTIRE TIME i see so much of myself in him#can we also agree josh hutcherson looks great with a goatee like that is eons ahead of the peeta look (never read/watched himger gims ok)

I don’t believe I’m familiar with your ocs so feel free to choose any but 🐉🗡️🧠
I think I could briefly talk about the three of them!
🐉 - Valerie is the only elemental master in her family, neither Nessa or Kenichi have any elemental powers. However, Kenichi taught himself how to use magic once the realms merged. The only power Vanessa has is the shape shifting ability shared by the people of her realm (is just a bit different than the Formlings).
🗡️ - Valerie is very good in combat, but she tends to forget she doesn't need to block and face every attack. Her chosen weapon are iron war fans. Kenichi mostly uses magic and does some sort of jiujitsu style of fight. Vanessa is the "weakest" among them, but knows some capoeira moves and learned how to use the naginata as a hobby (later she would take these more seriously).
🧠 - okay, this might be too long, so sorry in advance
Valerie and Kenichi were first created in 2017 because I wanted werewolf edgy OC's. Valerie used to use an axe instead of war fans, but her overall werewolf thingy and appearance were always the same. She also always had an "alt" aesthetic, or as alt as I could go as a 12 yo in the late 2010's thinking emo was very hardcore (ah, 12yo me was so dumb). I tried my best for her not to be a Mary Sue as well, so her outspoken and impulsive personality was always there. She was also created to be paired with Lloyd and they also always had this "haters to friends to lovers" dynamic. Again, as time went by, I needed to add good personality traita for her as well and I thought that her explosive/impulsive personality would contrast well with her being super nice and patient with kids and actually enjoying to be around them. 2017 Valerie could never! One cool detail about her desing is that her lighter brown locks were inspired by my hair when I was 12. It had lighter, slightly blonde locks because I used to be under the sun a lot (if I try doing this nowadays I'll turn to ashes lol)
Kenichi only started to get a personality once I reworked him like I year ago. He was very different, but things that are still the same is that he has black hair and he smokes (also knows how to use a gun). He started as a comedic relief character, but as time went by I hugged the idea of him being morally grey, yet funny, but always with a card in his sleeve, wishing nothing but the best for the world (he's literally chaotic good rn). The scar on his eye was originally present as a "future self" thing, like, he'd get it during Valerie's fan season, but I liked the idea so I made it part of him from the start of the story.
Nessa was created randomly when I was 12 because I wanted to give Valerie some drama that wasn't "her parents are dead" kind of drama, so I thought adding a surprise twin sister would be nice. Well it wasn't, and I knew that, so I killed Nessa off and she became a vangeful spirit only Valerie could see. When I decided to rework Valerie, I revisited Vanessa's concept, whose personality seemed to never be right. Having recently watched C09 gameplays and Scott Pilgrim movies (plus reading the comics) I thought mixing Jecka and Julie Powers with a character from Teen Monica's Gang (Denise) would be funny. I did this because Nessa's personality would always end up as "too shy to live" or "too superficial to be interesting", so I gave her this "she's an asshole" kind of personality, except it's just because she's harsh and likes to take care of others, so her harshness is because of her wish to see others doing well. Like she has redeemable qualities that's what I mean ldhdkdjfi
Anyway, that's it! Thank you very much for the ask, I love talking about my OC's and thought this game would be a fun way to talk about them without doing 100s of random posts fhjdhdjd

Crimson was hatched near a nuclear waste plant where toxic rubber substances and toxic chemical waste are usually dumped. Because of this, he was mutated into an anthropomorphic being with the capability of human speech and the power of elasticity from the rubber substances and other superpowers from the toxic chemicals. Since he was a half bird half human hybrid, he didn't know how to fit in amongst the other birds or humans, so he just stayed in hiding in the trees of New York town Square where he thought nobody would see him. One day, he saw Wonder Girl, Voidz, and Electrodog stop two criminals from robbing a bank near his tree, and he was so amazed by them and the fact that they had superpowers just like him that he wanted to join them, but at first he was afraid they would think he was a freak because of his appearance, but then he saw a third criminal pull out a gun on Wonder Girl when she wasn't looking and quickly took action to save her. Using his super speed, he rushed over to her, jumped in front of the bullet, and bounced it back at the criminal with his elasticity, causing it to hit them in the shoulder and drop the gun and save Wonder Girl. Wonder Girl and her team were so impressed with his triumph and bravery that they let him join their team, and thus Crimson, the mutant cardinal, became Elastabird

The Black Bulls and their bullshit in the modern time: jobs I guess – Part. 2
Many seemed to enjoy the first part of the series, thank you so much for the love! Honestly I don’t think this part is as good or funny as the one about lifeguard Yami and the café buddies, so look out for part 3 (the last part) I guess? Again I didn't mean for these to turn out like headcanons, but does it really matter at this point? Nonetheless, I hope you guys enjoy this one, which includes babysitter Asta, and the fashion boutique group! :D
Asta
baby babysitter
has enough muscles to carry 4 children on him with ease.
he probably shocks clients by telling them that he doesn't mind working for free (because he's clueless about stuff like that)
but his clients always pays him because they feel bad when they see him get along so well with their kids
never gets mad at the children, but always disciplines them with his loud ass voice whenever they do something wrong
teaches the kids yoga he learned from Vanessa to calm them down
"inner peace in your mind, and breathe in, breathe out."
the session is interrupted when a kid pulls his hair from behind him, and suddenly they're having a nerf gun battle
likes to break dance in the living room to entertain the kids
dislocated his shoulder once because of it
tries to help them with homework but he himself doesn’t understand what the question is asking for
brings the children out to the park to have fun with the consent of their parents
usually brings Luck with him because he has TONS of energy and the children love playing tag with him
Asta tells him to lose on purpose so the kids don’t cry
absolutely horrible at putting them to sleep because he literally sounds like an alarm clock
so he pretends to sleep with them to get the children to follow him (because they look up to him)
ends up actually falling asleep
immensely fascinated at his rich clients' houses because he has never seen cool things like a water fountain or a built-in theatre before in a house
i totally see him screaming and shouting exactly like the children he's babysitting when playing with them
Vanessa Enoteca
runs a small fashion boutique, and designs all the items in the shop
the only person in the shop that the customers find approachable
she's usually hungover when you see her
but helpful nonetheless when it comes to clothing choices
there's never really a time where the boutique is full with customers
so in the morning she sits behind the counter, either fast asleep or watching cat videos
in the afternoon she becomes more productive though
works with Gordon to finish any ongoing pieces and discusses new designs
lowkey thinks of her customers as dolls
constantly playing dress up with the customers, and her persuasion skills gets them to actually buy her choices
plays bubblegum jpop through the speakers because Zora lowkey enjoys it
5pm to 7pm is the time for her daily yoga sessions
she holds weekly zumba lessons on the space one floor above the boutique for some extra cash
Gordon and Henry always end up being dragged into them, both the yoga and the zumba
has considered becoming a stripper seriously at least 4 times
flirts with male customers only because she wants sales
it works for some reason and she sells a winter coat for $350... in the middle of summer
gives discounts whenever she feels like it
once when she was batshit drunk, she cut 99% off someone's bill
she was dragged to the back to rest while Zora had to take over at the counter and passive aggressively explain why it is impossible and unreasonable for them to offer the discount
Gordon Agrippa
works in Vanessa's boutique pt. 1
was asked by Vanessa to work in her shop because he had a talent for sewing up dolls
now he's Vanessa's apprentice, learning how to properly make clothes and helping her complete outfits
apparently, his fashion taste has significantly improved (according to Vanessa)
she thinks Gordon's appearance is what makes him...Gordon, so she doesn't bother asking him to change it
wants to go out and make friends with the customers
once, he appeared from the back room and everyone in the store fled in fear
Henry gave him pats on the back to console him afterwards
after working together for awhile, all the workers in the boutique can make out his mumbles
likes to stroll around the shop (when there is no one) to appreciate the peace and vibes
has handmade dolls of everyone, and they sit on the table and watch him while he works
also the person who fixes things around the shop
light bulbs, broken shelves, malfunctioning cashier machine, you name it
only because the rest either had no clue how to fix them, or they're too unbothered to care about it
so Gordon learned all these skills from Google
occasionally goes to the café and Charmy's restaurant to fix things too
he just wants more friends, but is also absolutely content with his friendship with the Bulls
Zora Ideale
works in Vanessa's boutique pt. 2
drives a cool motorcycle to work
only working here because Vanessa promised to give him free clothes
you'll never see him without a leather jacket
Vanessa has told him before that he looks too scary for the customers to approach
but he honestly does not give a damn
critiques just about anybody's fashion sense
he'll tell a child that the pink Elsa dress she is wearing looks like shit
or how those blue coloured barbie crocs are NOT it
and the child always ends up crying, but stops when Henry offers her a lolipop
but he does offer actual advice and good choices depending on the customer
just that it comes out very aggressively
and it is up to the customer whether to take his suggestions or leave
he will BULLY anyone that talks shit about the workers in the store
Henry's looks messy and dirty? Zora roasts
Vanessa doesn't take her job seriously? Zora roasts
Gordon looks scary? Zora agrees but still ROASTS
the person who pulls Luck back by the ear before he ransacks the place
also offers relationship advice to couples if necessary
many visit the shop just for his brutal honesty about various topics
at least 5 couples visit monthly for his guidance
REFUSES to join Vanessa's yoga and zumba sessions, he clocks out and immediately heads to the café to chill instead
Henry Legolant
works in Vanessa's boutique pt. 3
wears pajamas to the job
he was invited to work there but Henry thinks of it more as a friendly gathering than work
his job there mostly consists of folding clothes, ironing clothes and keeping the whole store tidy
he's basically in his own world
doesn't get mad whenever the store becomes messy
he doesn't question it and instead he just tidies it up again
also sometimes sits in a corner and draws new outlines for the interior design of the boutique
is the one who recommended potted plants to Nacht for the café
Zora wanted to give him a haircut, but he insists that it's okay
"that's why his hair is so big, because his hair is fULL oF sEcReTs." – Vanessa Enoteca, quoting off the Mean Girls.
as per Gordon's request, he stands outside the shop for 20 minutes daily
to 'get his daily dose of sunshine' is what Gordon said because Henry stays inside too much
makes tea for the rest whenever it hits 4pm
sometimes offers it to the customers, they usually refuse
enjoys Vanessa's yoga and zumba lessons
he thinks it will help him become more productive
and because he has a very pleasant memory of a specific Zumba session with all the Black Bulls
which was Magna, Zora and Luck competing to see who was the better dancer
Finral won in the end by majority vote

Lost in the Shadows Pt.5
Previous Part Next Part
Word Count: 2120
FemOC x Poly Lost Boys
Tumblr media
Vanessa took out her pack of cigarettes as her friends approached and another cigarette was placed in between her lips. I could kiss every single one of you. She projected to her friends, all of them smiling at the thought.
“Who’s got a light?” Vanessa asked as the group. She had a feeling she’d be finishing the rest of her pack tonight.
Luis stopped at her left side, pulling out his own custom lighter, helping Vanessa, “You got more?” He asked, side glancing at the group of boys who were watching them with curious eyes.
Vanessa inhales, nodding. She pulled out her pack letting Luis grab one for himself. Luis wasn’t a big smoker like her, but if his anxieties were blooming, it usually had him smoking.
Timothy slinged an arm around Luis, jutting his head towards David and the others, “Sup?” The entire group could smell what they were; fully fledged vampires.
Danielle and Sarah took Vanessa’s right side, Danielle resting her elbow on Vanessa’s shoulder, leaning in a little bit towards the white haired woman.
Vanessa blew out her smoke as David and Paul pushed themselves off from the rail, falling into a similar stance. “Guys, this is Marko, Paul, David and Dwayne.” Vanessa pointed to each one of them as she said their names.
My mates. Vanessa added afterwards. Her friends hid their shock in front of the boys, but in their minds, they were asking Vanessa question after question.
Vanessa ignored all of them, their questions were starting to give her a headache, “Boys, this is Timothy…”
Timothy gave them a small wave, his bag of books dangling from his wrist. He took in all of their appearance and almost wanted to snort. All of them were right up Vanessa’s alley. Hot, punk vampires.
“Luis…”
Luis nodded his head at them, blowing out some smoke, his shawl now draped along his bent arms and no longer on his shoulders. Luis agreed with Timothy. All of them were really hot. His eyes landed on Dwayne. He has nice pecs.
Timothy moved his arm from Luis’s shoulder and pinched his butt cheek in warning. Don’t test me.
Luis flinched a little at the action, but grinned. Just confidence appreciating confidence.
“Danielle…”
Danielle smirked a little at them and gave a two fingered salute while still leaning against Vanessa. She knew that Vanessa was going to have her hands full with them.
“And Sarah.”
Sarah kindly waved at them. To Sarah, they seemed like fun and a little chaotic. Kind of perfect if you asked her. Do they know what we are? Sarah asked.
Vanessa tapped the ashes off her cigarette, Nope. And as far as they know. We have no idea that they’re vampires. She answered.
All of them immediately closed their minds off, not wanting any of them to poke and prod at their thoughts. They had to seem oblivious to them. At least until the time was right to reveal what they were.
“Thanks for keeping our girl company. She tends to do stupid shit on her own.” Sarah teased Vanessa while thanking the boys across from them.
Marko and Paul snickered at Vanessa’s expression. Her jaw dropped in offense, “I do not do stupid shit! Says the one who totally wrecked her bass while using it as a bat for playing baseball.”
Sarah glared at Vanessa, but there was a hint of amusement behind her eyes, “Hey! I was drunk! You all could’ve stopped me and saved me buying a new bass.”
“Where’s the fun in that?” Timothy commented, making Luis burst out laughing as Danielle snickered.
Vanessa rolled her eyes fondly at her friends. She looked over at the boys in front of her and saw that Paul seemed to be fidgeting in his place, his eyes, along with the others, set on Vanessa.
She knew they were itching to be alone with her, to talk to her, to even just touch her. Too bad she has to decline their wants for the night. Vanessa sighed, ready to bid them goodbye, but stopped when David took a step forward.
“Since you’re all new to town, why don’t we show you around?” David smirked down at Vanessa. If he could get her friends to agree to hang out with them, it’ll give the chance to be around her longer.
Danielle leaned away from Vanessa, removing her arm from its place and exchanging a look with Sarah. Luis and Timothy did the same, each of them having their own conversation. And they all agreed on one thing.
“We appreciate the offer, but we actually have to get going. Busy day tomorrow.” Danielle said, nudging Vanessa. Together, her and Sarah started walking away and towards the direction of the boardwalk entrance.
Luis finished his cigarette, stomping it out completely and wiggled his fingers at them, “See yeah, boys.”
Hand and hand, Luis and Timothy walk away, but not without sending a wink Vanessa’s way. Give them something, girl. Don’t torture them. Luis told her, him and Timothy fading into the sea of people before Vanessa could say anything back.
Vanessa narrowed her eyes at her friends retreating forms. So much for kissing them, she was going to kick all their asses once they got back home. They left her alone with her mates on purpose.
With one last exhale, hoping to get rid of some of her anxieties along with the smoke, Vanessa extinguished her cigarette and smiled. Luis was right. All of them were. She couldn’t just leave without getting to know them a little bit before heading home for the night. Four mates or not, she needed to let her guard down for once.
“Instead of showing me around, you can walk me back to my bike? We can walk slowly?” Vanessa offered.
Marko and Paul immediately pounced on the offer, Marko taking her left side, wrapping an arm around her shoulder while Paul took the right, his arm going around her waist. The three of them didn’t feel the same shock from before, but their touch still felt amazing against each other’s skin.
Vanessa giggled at their eagerness and bit her lip as David and Dwayne returned her smile from before. Though, David's smile was a little more smug than Dwayne’s. David waved his hand, gesturing to Vanessa, “We’d love to. Wouldn’t we, Dwayne?”
Dwayne nodded, “We would.”
A shiver ran down Vanessa’s spine as they stared down at her. Even with her heeled boots, she was still a couple of inches smaller than Marko.
The five slowly walked toward the direction of the entrance, Dwayne taking his place beside Marko and David next to Paul. As they walked, Vanessa got comfortable with their touch. Her own hands soon placed themselves around both Marko’s and Paul’s waist. The returned action made them very happy, and eased them even more as they all talked.
A weight seemed to lift off of David’s chest. He could feel Vanessa letting her guard down a bit, opening herself up to them. Her laughter sang out into the open air, sounding like music to all of their ears. They also thought it was adorable that she had a bit of a squeak to it.
Their voices never stopped even when they reached their destination. Seven different motorbikes were parked by the entrance, the closest one was vacant but the two next to it seated their owners.
Timothy was sitting on his motorbike next to the empty one. His bag of books stuffed into his compartment and locked away so it wouldn’t fall out. Luis sat right behind him, his arms wrapped around his boyfriend's waist and the side of his cheek pressed firmly against Timothy’s back.
Next to them was Danielle, who had to hike her skirt up in order to sit properly on her own bike. Sarah was in a similar position to Luis, her arms around her girlfriend but her head was perked up, watching people pass by.
“Woah, you guys ride too?” Marko exclaimed as he saw Vanessa’s friends ready to go on their modes of transportation.
“Yeah… Those are your bikes?” Vanessa asked, jutting her head at the four other bikes before looking up at the curly haired boy.
Paul chuckled, “Hell yeah, babe. You like?” He answered for the other blonde, his fingers slightly moving against the bare skin of her waist.
Vanessa held back a laugh when his fingers moved. The sides of her waist were the most ticklish part of her body, so it was hard to respond immediately, “Very.” Their bikes were cool. Dirtier compared to her own, but they all had their own little flare to them, reflecting their owners.
Much to the boys disappointment, Vanessa pulled away from them and walked over to her bike, taking a seat, “Too bad we couldn’t stay longer.”
Had a good time?
Vanessa looked over at Timothy who was smirking, looking back and forth between her and the boys.
She rolled her eyes, Shut up, dick.
Bitch. Timothy jabbed.
All right, break it up you two. Sarah said, shaking her head at the two. Vanessa and Timothy constantly bickered with each other out of love. They weren’t even siblings but they acted like brother and sister.
Vanessa looked back at David and the others, “You guys know the old record shop?”
Dwayne nodded, “The one that closed a few months ago?”
That was probably the most she was going to get out of Dwayne tonight. He seemed more or less like an observer more than a talker. An introvert, if you will. Vanessa nodded, “Yeah. We took it over. Tomorrow we move everything in, and we open New Year’s Day. But you guys can stop by if you want.”
Her friends raised their brows in surprise at her offer. Vanessa was even surprised with herself. She didn’t know if it was the mate pull between them or just her own desires to get to know them better. In all honesty, it was a mix of both.
They all shared a look and she knew that they were talking to each other. She gave them their privacy and respect to not listen in.
Without a word, Marko started biting his thumb nail, hiding his devilish smile, and giving a small wave to Vanessa before going to his bike. It was the second to last in the row.
Paul wiggled his fingers at her with a flirtatious smile, “See ya.” He walked over to his bike which was the last one. He hopped on but not without shoving Marko playfully.
Dwayne sent her a pair of finger guns, which she copied with an amused chuckle. He smiled a little and went to his own bike, leaving one empty between him and Danielle.
The last to do anything was David. With a hint of a smile, David walked up to Vanessa, the sounds of his boots hitting the hard ground seemed to echo in her ears. His gloved hand reached up and cupped her cheek, his thumb caressing her skin softly.
Vanessa swallowed deeply as his touch, even if it wasn’t skin on skin, felt like electricity in her veins. For once, after a very long time, she felt her heart beat a little faster than normal. It had been so long since someone touched her so gently. She wondered if Marko, Paul or Dwayne would be like this with her.
“See you tomorrow, Vanessa.” David whispered out. To anyone else, it would’ve been heard by her and only her, but everyone heard it. David’s word was a promise. They would be back, there was no doubting it.
Vanessa reached up and touched the hand that held her cheek. She turned her head to the side, staring at his eyes through her shades and placing a small kiss onto his leather palm. Something swirled in David’s eyes and she didn’t have to delve into his mind to know what it was.
She gave him a smug smile, pulling his hand away from her face and letting it go, “See you tomorrow…” She kick started her bike which was quickly followed by her coven members, their moods instantly lifting.
Vanessa looked over to the others who were watching on with eager smiles, “Don’t keep me waiting.” She revved her bike and peeled off from the boardwalk, Danielle and Timothy with their respective partners just behind her.
Vanessa gripped the handles of her bike, her knuckles almost turning white as she drove. That night she didn’t hoot and holler like she normally would as the wind caressed her skin. That night, she drove in silence all the way home.
That night… she found her mates for all eternity.

Good day it’s a new au time cuz BRAIN ROT BRRRRR
Anyhow it’s a “MCU” but not kinda au
big thanks to @doodleimprovement for dealing with my word vomit over this au lol iamsosorry
Ru is a tech company CEO giant with his daughter Harriet (his business partner is his former wife who wants nothing to do with their kid) and adopted the recently orphaned Kaya Solaria after she helped stop a mugger in the alley way (well. Spider King did but her mask got hit off by a bullet and Ru saw it was just a kid and stepped in)
Working on running a company, raising his 6 year old as well as a super powered 15 year old (Kaya actually has Spiderman’s powers, King came after the fact and is tied to how she lost her dad) he ends up getting injured on a business trip after he was taken captive. Upon return he decides to try and ‘be a hero’ as a means to get his eldest to stop sneaking out (she has guilt over her dad dying so tries to be a hero to make up for it despite Ru asking her to wait until she’s 18 at least)  he figures if he can get the world (or at least their city) safer, she can rest at ease (cuz he’s a good dad and just wants her to... be a kid. not try to be more than a kid) he uses the Alias “Thorned Snatcher” (as his last name is Thatcher)
Vanessa however wants his new tech as she thinks its the key to a new weapons future and nearly kills Ru when she rips the reactor from his chest. Thankfully he had his old model still and his secretary (Eclipse) and daughters get home in time to help him. he knows if he doesn’t stop Vanessa things will be even worse for his family.
During their fight, he’s knocked down and nearly stops there to tired, but hears his daughters crying for him, specifically for the first time since he adopted her Kaya calls him “Dad”. He knows he needs to keep to his goal and if Vanessa is left free he failed a father.
He manages to get up with the Help of Eclipse who joined the fight, having stalled Vanessa hand to hand despite Vanessa’s weapon suit (sus eclipse is sus) and he’s able to fight again and put an end to her.
he gives Kaya a stipulation when they are waiting on the cops, he’ll let her fight crime, but only when he’s with her.
and thats the first part of this au eve (second bit deals with miss secretary past. A woman who is able to give Kaya a sore hand with a high five despite kaya can stop some extensive things (likepeterstoppingbucky’sfist) and went toy to toy with Vanessa with just a hub cap. Hrm. Cap. Cap. Captain...?)
I actually wrote up when Ru met Kaya. It’s a lil fast pace but I did it on purpose.
“If ya just hand ova ya wallet and yer valuables, you and yers can get out of here with a scar on your little faces.”
Arulius sighed as he heard the mugger and moved an arm to push his 6 year old behind his back. He gently gestured to his watch with a finger, to which she tapped a button on to call their bodyguard, Florence.
“I’m afraid I really don’t have time for this. Harriet has a dance recit--” Arulius clicked his tongue when the gun was pressed up into his neck.
“I’m bein generous, man.” he pressed it further, pulling the hammer back.
“That’s not very polite! Did your dad never tell you not to stick your shooter in people’s faces?” Came a laughing voice. The mugger gasped when black webbing stuck to his back and pulled him to the ground.
Standing perpendicular to the wall was the dark-suited figure, glowing white eyes and jagged smile laughing.
“D-Dad! Dad, it’s Spider King!” Harriet giggled as she hung onto her dad’s leg. He scowled and went to step back.
“YA FREAK!” The mugger tried to fight against the restraints, the primed gun going off in the hero’s direction.
There was a hiss as the masked figure fell off the wall with a solid thud. Arulius scooped Harriet up, only stopping when he saw the vigilante's face, the bullet having knocked her mask off.
“A… A kid?” he grimaced. Why was a CHILD attacking a mugger? Before he could open his mouth to speak there was a hissing.
“N-No King don’t! I’m fine! I’m fine!” the teenager gasped as the black claws she had tore off in slimy chunks, lunging at the mugger. She winced with the crunch as his hands were removed and she paled some, shaking.
Arulius shielded his daughter’s eyes.
“BOSS!” The red head came barreling down the alley, a bit too late when Spider King tried to grab her mask.
“Stop.” Arulius ordered her. She looked up with frightened gold eyes. The tentacles retracting up her sleeves, “wait a moment.”
“Oh gross!” Florence shuddered as she moved to get the mugger up, the man an incoherent mess, “you do this?” she asked the teenager whose temple was bleeding.
She said nothing and gripped her arms as she tried to process. She blinked when tiny hands went to her cheeks.
“BIG SIS IS SO COOL!” Harriet giggled. Her father was talking on his phone.
“I-I’m.. No…” she looked away ashamed, “Y-You… I’m… I just… wanted to help…” she began to sniffle, “I-I didn’t mean for king to…”
“He hurt Sol. Bite back.” The snake-like creature peeked from the girl’s collar.
“I-I told you no biting h---” she placed her hands over her mouth and scurried to her feet, violently vomiting into a trash can. She panted some. Tensing when a hand rubbed her back gently.
“Yes. yes. He shot his own hands off in his confusion. Must be high.” Arulius was standing near her now as he spoke on the phone, “My guard was able to restrain him. Yes. yes I’m fine as is my daughter and the teen he was attacking. Mmhm.”
She flinched when he scowled and tilted her head up, “scratch that, looks like the teen got a bit hurt, but we’ll treat her. Yes. yes. I’ll leave my guard here.” hanging up he shifted his phone to his pocket before licking his thumb and wiping the blood away. She winced.
“O-Ow don’t! That stings!” she whined as tears pooled in her eyes.
King hissed and went to bite him but stopped when the girl sniffled. He nuzzled her cheek as Arulius let go.
“Come on.” he pointed towards the black car that pulled around, “let’s go and then I’m calling your parents.”
She gripped her arms and stood firm, “T-Thanks for calling the police b-but you better f-forget you saw me, Mr. Thatcher.” she chuckled nervously, brushing black hair from her face.
“You know who I am?”
“O-Of course I do! Who wouldn’t?! Thatcher tech is my dream job!” she gasped, “I-I was a-at your summer program--” she covered her mouth.
He clicked his tongue, “the one for highschoolers?” he asked. She whined and moved to run but bumped into Florence who huffed.
“Give me your parent’s number.” Arulius sighed.
“I… I don’t…” she chewed her lip. She was quiet.
“Where do you live at least? I’ll drop you off.” he shook his head.
“PARK!” King chirped.
“Hush!” She fretted.
“The park? You live in the park?” Harriet asked as she stood near the teenager’s legs, “That’s not fun!”
“W-well i-I couldn’t stay at m-my apartment…” The teen frowned. She winced when she was pushed towards the car. Whining and trying to deflect she found herself sitting in the back. Harriet crawled in and grinned as Arulius sat in the passenger’s seat.
“No parents. No house. Now I get why a damn kid is running at muggers.” he rubbed his temples with a groan, “name?”
She was quiet.
“I’m not calling you ‘spider king’ name.” he asked a bit firmer.
“S-Solaria…” she mumbled, “K-Kaya Solaria…” she wiped the tears with the back of her gloves, “A-Are you going to turn me in?? I-I don’t mean any harm Mr. Thatcher! I-I promise! I-I normally do fine!!!”
“How old are you?” He opened the window and put a cigarette in his mouth and leaned out as he lit it up. “Under 18 if you were at the company summer program.”
“I… I turned 15 last month…” she admitted ashamed.
“You’re a few years older than me!” Harriet beamed, “I’m 6!” she grinned.
“I’m more like a decade older…” Kaya chuckled nervously. She looked at the tech company CEO. he had pulled a laptop out and made another annoyed click with his tongue. She winced.
“Your father…. Gabriel Solaria?” he leaned back, “the journalist?”
She nodded.
“Damn shame. He was a decent guy. His stories were interesting.” he flicked through the news reports as Florence got in the driver’s seat.
“Done with the cops?” he asked, “stop by the courthouse.”
“Huh?” she started the engine, “courthouse.”
“P-Please! D-Don’t turn me in! I-I’ll b---”
“I need to grab some adoption papers.” he gave a smirk and looked back at the crying teen, “Since it seems Harriet's getting an older sister. But no more crime fighting.” he shifted to cross his arms and put his feet on the dash. “15… fucking 15. You know what I did at 15??”
“Built a rocket engine that was able to lift a treadmill?” she stated with a small smile.
He blinked and snickered, “okay, yes but I was also just. Going to sch--- do you go to school?”
“I-I’ve been attending school still.” she scratched her cheek, “Um… Subcon Public high…” she sank back in the seat. She jumped when Harriet sat on her and protectively put her arms around the younger girl. She shifted her seat belt around her as well when Florence pulled into traffic.
“Well you’ll have to transfer. Is that an issue?”
She shook her head, “U-Um mr. Thatcher… what… are you planning?” she asked softly.
“Adopting a lost child, and making sure she doesn’t do anything stupid.” he snickered, “Any school you want to attend?”
“I… i you can’t! Y-You just met me!” she gasped in shock, “I-I’m a freak! I’m an accident! I-I have an alien!”
“Meeee” king stated proudly with a cackle.
“Yes but you know what I see? I see a scared kid who’s trying a little too hard.” he scoffed as she stared, “and we’re going to grab adoption papers, then I’m ordering pizza. Any allergies?”
“EAT EVERYTHING,” King laughed.
“Perfect then.” Arulius huffed, “and you can call me Arulius. Since I guess calling me dad off the bat would be weird.” he began to type on his laptop.
She sat there in confusion. She’d simply gone to help someone. And now her idol was adopting her. Her. a mutant spider freak with a parasitic alien.
She reached and pinched her cheek and whined.
Arulius caught this in the rear view and began to cackle loudly.
“Sorry kiddo. You’re awake.”
“B-But why are you just adopting me and not turning me into a lab or something?!” she asked fearfully.
“Dad’s nicer than he looks~!” Harriet giggled, “Can you shoot webs?”
“Mmhm.” Kaya shifted her gloves off and removed the cuff under her sleeve, “its um. An artificial webbing actually, unless King is the one shooting it. He has a gooey webbing.”
Arulius peeked and reached a hand back. She frowned before handing the cuff to him.
He turned it over in his hands with an impressed whistle, “you construct this?”
She nodded, “I-I like engineering and I figured it’d be useful when king’s tired, i-it’s bio degradable too! But really strong!”
“That's how you swing around right?” Harriet asked with sparkling eyes, “What else can you do?!”
“Well I can walk on walls.” Kaya sighed, “I’m pretty strong too? I can lift a car if I focus. I can move fast?” she frowned, “I’ve never really… tho-- STOP THE CAR!” She gasped.
Florence slammed on the brakes as the truck at the intersection sped by.
“There’s um that. Normally I can semi tell something can happen.” Kaya frowned, “s-sorry for yelling.”
“No, by all means!” Florence laughed, “So. Spider King huh?”
“W-well it’s cuz I’m spider-esque and then King.” she pet the alien who chirped.
“What’s his deal?” Arulius asked but got silence, “alright another day then.”
Florence parked the car as Arulius got out.
“Wait here,” he stated and Kaya just gave a nod. He threw her web shooter back and she caught it with wide eyes, “You’re grounded from crime fighting until you’re 18, but I won’t take your web shooters.”
“Ah… okay…?” she blinked as he shut the door and headed up. She leaned into the seat and just sat there. Very confused.
“Can I call you big sis? Or kai??” Harriet asked the older girl.
“Oh… um… I guess you can call me whatever….”
“Kaya’s a cute name.” Florence chuckled, “Crime fighting though. What a hobby.”
“I… I just wanted to help people…” she admitted softly, “I have these abilities so I thought I needed to…”
“Can you swing with me when we get home? We have a big tree in the yard!” Harriet giggled, “can you sign my daily bugle of you??”
“I’d rather not…” Kaya chuckled.
“Sleepy.” King huffed.
“Exhausted,” Kaya admitted as she shut her eyes. She barely registered she’d fallen asleep.
After a bit Arulius returned with the needed paperwork. He blinked and smiled as he looked in the back seat. The superhero passed out, his daughter sleeping against her.
Kaya’s arm rested around Harriet, and even King was putting his head on the girl.
“Well, not the oddest thing I’ve ever dealt with.” he spoke softly as Florence started the car once more. He flipped through the papers, “seems people had no idea she was on her own. Thought her uncle had her but turns out he lied and was just taking the financial support.” he grumbled, “there’s some messy hearings but I think I can just. Pay it off.” he looked back and gave a smile, “hey free babysitter.” he snickered.
------
He tapped his foot as he crossed his arms with a huff.
“Kaya.”
She looked away ashamed.
“What did I say?”
“No webbing in the house unless you’re watching.” she mumbled.
“And then why is the house covered in webs?” he asked with a twitch of his eyebrow.
“I-I was just playing with Hattie!” she defended. She huffed and he smirked. She seemed a bit more settled in if she was copping an attitude, “I-I’ll clean it up! I promise Mr. Thatcher!”
“Arulius. I told you, use my first name. You’re my kid now you know.” he sighed and headed inside.
She stepped aside and rubbed her neck, looking at the floor, “I-I can’t just… call you your name… that’s rude…”
“You’re my kid now, it’s weirder if you keep calling me “Mr. Thatcher” I’m not asking you to call me dad but.” he chuckled.
“THOT!” king sang loudly as the teen’s face turned red.
“I-I didn’t teach him that! I swear!”

Sunny Day - Rowater
Tumblr media
Summary: Vanessa’s undercover assignment is done, she comes back to the 21st to make amends with one person in particular.
Warnings: swearing, angst, mentions of blood & gore
Requested: Yes! #7, “What the hell are you doing here.” & #8, “Don’t walk away again.”
Vanessa stepped out of the cab and slammed the door shut behind her, staring straight ahead at the familiar condo in front of her. It had been six months since she had stood before it, and gosh, how she missed it. Including the ugly door hanger Hailey insisted on putting out every spring.
She passed a grey pickup during her walk to the front door, smirking at the sight. When she reached the porch, she dug in the side of her duffle bag, pulling out a set of keys she hadn’t used since she left. She twisted the key in the door and pushed it open quietly, sighing when the first floor was revealed. Everything was exactly the same.
She dropped her duffle bag on the floor and went straight for the kitchen. She didn’t know the last time she ate anything homecooked. She was rummaging through the fridge when she heard thudding behind her, she grinned, she couldn’t wait to see her roommate.
“Chicago P.D. Turn around slowly and show me your hands.” A man’s voice said soft, but sternly.
Vanessa laughed, raising her hands and turning to face the detective. “Hi, Jay.” She said, looking him up and down. Her coworker stood there in only his boxers at the base of the stairs, gun raised.
“Jesus, Vanessa.” He said, running a hand through his hair.
“Good to see you.” She waved a finger at him, “I’m glad to know you feel comfortable around me.”
Jay scoffed, nonchalantly (or not so) lowering his hands so that they covered his crotch. “I’m gonna go get Hailey-”
Before he could even get the sentence out, there was padding above them. “Jay?” She called out, followed by thudding at the top of the stairs. “Babe, what’s wrong-Vanessa?” The blonde asked as she reached the bottom. She squealed a very un-Hailey-like squeal and raced towards her best friend. “Hi.” She said as she wrapped her arms around her.
“Hey.” Vanessa said softly, sighing as she hugged her back.
Jay coughed behind them. “I’m gonna go put some clothes on…”
“Or maybe just pants?” Hailey smirked at him
Vanessa stared intensely at him, “Yeah, don’t hide on my account.” Hailey looked at her best friend, who was staring her boyfriend down and burst out laughing, along with Vanessa.
Hailey walked over to him, placing a hand on his chest, she reached up and pecked his cheek. “Bring me back a pair of sweats?”
“Yeah.” Jay nodded shortly, before disappearing to where he came from.
Vanessa hadn’t noticed until then, but all Hailey was wearing was an oversized grey v-neck, undoubtedly one that wasn’t hers. Hailey settled in on a barstool, motioning for Vanessa to follow. “How long are you back?”
Vanessa shrugged, “I’m not sure. Things kind of got crazy, so they pulled me out to let the wires cool down. They haven’t decided if they are going to send me back in yet.”
“What happens if they don’t send you back in?” Hailey asked.
Vanessa took a deep breath, “The higher ups are pushing for me to stay on with them, either as a undercover case worker or as one of their regulars.”
“V, that’s great! Getting an offer from the feds your 3rd year on the job? That’s incredible.” Hailey exclaimed. “If I didn’t know any better, I would say that the Bureau has something against Voight.”
“Speaking of,” Vanessa said, “How was your stint? Did it end up being short?”
Hailey nodded, “Yeah, about two months. I came home right after you left.”
“Damn.” Vanessa said.
“I know. We just missed each other.” Hailey sat forward, “So, are you gonna take it?”
Vanessa shrugged, shaking her head. “I don’t know...What would you do?” Hailey nearly choked on her own saliva. Vanessa eyed her best friend cautiously, “Did I miss something?” She asked, laughing.
Hailey shook her head, recovering. “No, no. The people I worked with before offered me a spot on a task force a few months ago, in New York.”
Vanessa nodded, “I’m guessing you didn’t take it?” Hailey shook her head, smiling softly. “Do you regret it?”
Hailey glanced at the stairs behind her before grinning at the officer, “Not at all.”
The next morning, Vanessa found herself outside of a familiar house once again. Just this time, with two cups of coffee in her hand. She was much more anxious than the night before, she climbed the porch steps cautiously, hitting the door bell with her elbow.
There was noise of shuffling behind it before it finally swung open, Vanessa smiled softly at the sight of the man in front of her. “Hey Kev.” She said quietly.
Kevin stood there in shock, he debated pinching himself. He couldn’t believe who was standing there in front of him, there was no way he wasn’t dreaming. “Wh-What the hell are you doing here?” He asked, maybe a little more aggressively than he should have.
Vanessa was momentarily taken aback by his anger. “They pulled me from the operation…” She held up the warm cup, “I remembered your order, double espresso with a shot of vanilla.”
Kevin took it absently, still searching for the right words. “Thanks, you wanna come in?”
“Yeah.” Vanessa said immediately, “Yeah, I do.”
The two shifted inside the house, setting awkwardly in the colorful living room. “So, uh, when’d you get back?” Kevin asked, not really sure he wanted to know the answer.
“Like two in the morning, I went straight to Hailey’s.” She said, rushing her words a bit. “Jay actually pulled a gun on me, I wasn’t expecting him to be there.” She laughed.
Kevin chuckled, “Yeah, those two have been attached at the hip recently.”
“I’m sorry I missed it.” Vanessa said, looking him straight in the eye. It was more than though, it was almost an apology, almost an explanation for disappearing in the middle of night and just vanishing.
Kevin nodded, he wanted to be angry with her, he really did, but the longer she sat across from him it slowly began to fade. He missed her, he missed her so much and being mad seemed like such a waste of time now. He looked down at her watch. “I have to be at the district in like an hour.” He said, “Do you wanna get a drink tonight?”
Vanessa stood, she assumed that was her invitation to get the hell out of his house. “I have a lot to unpack, a lot to catch up on. Raincheck?” It wasn’t fair to get him to get attached again, not when she could get the call tomorrow that they needed her to disappear all over again.
Kevin glanced out the window, smiling softly, “I don’t do rainchecks, especially on a sunny day.”
Vanessa sighed, shaking her head. She remembered that day like it was yesterday, it was the day everything changed for her. “It was good to see you Kevin.” She took a few steps towards the door, praying that he would just let her go.
“Don’t walk away again, Vanessa.” Kevin said, against all better judgement. He jumped up off the couch, “Not like before”
Vanessa turned to him with blurry vision, “I didn’t have a choice.”
“Yes you did.” Kevin snapped, “You didn’t have to just vanish. You didn’t have to make me hear that you were gone from our Sergeant at work, you could’ve called. You could’ve told me.”
Vanessa shook her head, “I’ve never had anyone care before.” She yelled. “Hailey was in New York, and I just…” She took a deep breath, looking at the ground. “I just left.” But it wasn’t just that, after Hailey left, her and Kevin grew even closer. Voight shifted things around and they ended up partnered up. She couldn’t bear to say goodbye to him and she had never felt that way before.
“I cared.” Kevin said quietly, “I cared a lot.” He took a breath, throwing his arms out. “I still care.”
Vanessa set her coffee down on the inn table next to her and closed the gap between them, attaching her lips to his. Kevin caught her with ease, wrapping his strong arms around her to pull her even closer. Vanessa’s hands found the nape of his neck, pulling him down so she could actually reach. Eventually the two pulled away, breathless.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn't have done that.” Vanessa apologized.
Kevin nodded, “You’re right...I should have.” He leaned in again, kissing her passionately, “Jump.” He whispered against her lips, Vanessa obliged. He picked her up with ease before backing up slowly and sitting on the couch so that she was straddling him.
“I-um-'' She said in between kisses, but she kept losing her train of thought. He was a bit distracting. Finally she pushed on his chest, jumping up and putting some space between them. “I have to tell you something.” Kevin nodded. “The feds, they offered me a job.”
“Wow,” Kevin said, sitting forward. “That’s great V. I’m really happy for you,” He said genuinely.
“Thanks,” She said, still trying to catch her breath. “I think I’m gonna take it.”
Kevin sighed, “You should.”
“It’s in Chicago.” She said, smirking as Kevin’s head popped up. “I wouldn’t leave the city, but it’s centered around UC work, so I’d be gone a lot.” She sat down on top of him again, holding her face in his hands. “But, I want this, I want you. And I want to make it work, so…”
“So, nothing.” Kevin said, “Take it, you deserve it.” He reached up and pecked her gently. “I like you a lot, Vanessa, We’ll make it work, wherever you are.” Vanessa grinned, wrapping her arms around him and breathing deeply. It had taken so long, but she had come so far, she finally found her home.
A/N: This is my first time writing Rowater, so sorry if it seemed a little off. What did you think? Personally I will always believe that Vanessa is just undercover and she WILL be coming back, recipe for heartbreak, I know. But still, my baby Kevin needs someone to love. Thanks for reading! <3

At War
Part 5a
Summary: The war is heating up.
Feeling a shift in the bed you let yourself wake up, today was not a day for sleeping in. Gloved finger tips brushed your hair aside. Blinking you looked and saw Roman sitting on the edge of the bed. He was already dressed for the day, his aftershave tickled your nose.
“I made you some tea.”
You sat up near him, you saw your mug sitting on your nightstand. Grabbing it you blew on the surface of the hot liquid. “When did you come to bed?”
“Late.” His mouth was that grim line again, he no longer looked soft.
You took a sip of your tea. “Should I get ready and join you in your office?”
“Yes, I want to keep you close by.”
“Ok.” You had a thought. You were not used to any of this. “Has she tried anything?”
He nodded. “There was a brief encounter but my men handled them.”
You put a hand over his that rested on the bed. “I hope this will be over soon.”
He turned his hand over and squeezed yours. He looked at you. “When she stops playing games and just attacks, it will be.”
You knew he liked running his club and this was a nuisance. “Have you heard from anyone else?”
He inhaled. “They are apparently on my side but don’t want to fight.”
“You will have to remember that when they come knocking.”
He squeezed your hand, the one side of his mouth curled up for a moment, “I like the way you think.”
******
You wrapped your hair up into a loose bun and then dressed as if for a day in your studio. You leaned against the marble, you missed that moment where you had caught Roman fast asleep.
Pushing, yourself off the counter you went and grabbed a drawing pad and a case of your drawing materials. Opening, the door of Roman’s office he was on the phone, you nodded at Victor was standing near him. You went silently over to the sofa, tucking one leg under you, you opened your drawing pad.
In between, biting down on a pencil or pen it was much easier sketching there then you had thought it would be.
An elaborate bookcase was taking shape when you felt hair pins being pulled from your hair. Looking up, you smiled.
*****
You kept on surprising him. What had blessed him with you? Your idea last night and now that passing remark, he was glad you were his.
He looked at you as you sat drawing on the sofa. They curve of your throat, the look of determination.
He could still feel as you had pressed a kiss to his lips as he slept. He had stirred when you turned. Truthfully, he had not minded. After seeing your bravery and you not flinching at his anger, he cared for you all the more. Honestly, he had grown to love you. But he would never be one to say it.
He looked over at Zsasz. “Go see if the men need anything. Grab food, whatever. Tell them I’ll be around shortly.”
“Sure thing boss.”
He looked over and finally pushed himself away from his desk. Going over to you, he glanced down at what you were working on. He liked it.
With adept fingers he pulled some of the pins you used to hold your hair in place. Your eyes met his.
“Hi lovely girl.” He whispered.
He loved the reactions he could pull from you. The way you brought a hand to your face, blushing and smiling.
“Hi Roman.”
He smiled. “You’ve managed to sketch in here.”
You nodded but then sighed as he let his hand drift up your neck and stopped at your hair line.
“I was, but I’m glad...” He squeezed gently.
“Glad about what baby?”
“You’ve distracted me.”
Gently, he moved his thumb. “How am I do that?”
“Your hand. It feels good.” You breathed.
“Mm, I’m glad. Your lips had felt good when I was trying to sleep earlier.” He loved the little o your lips formed. “I enjoyed waking to the feel of them but I’d like to feel them again, come here.”
Reluctantly, he let go of you. But watching you get up and come to him was worth it. You drew close enough that there was barely a breath between the two of you.
“Where you would like my lips, Roman?”
He felt your breath followed by your lips on his throat above his collar. He didn’t move as he felt you go up on your tip toes, your lips grazed his jaw he inhaled.
“Or perhaps here.” Your body moved slowly down his torso, grabbing his hand. It was the hand where his watch didn’t rest, you brushed aside his glove. When your eyes met his, they were twinkling. Moving just so you kissed the soft part of his wrist.
“Baby.” He breathed, his heart begun to be faster. “Let’s not start what we can’t finish.”
“Then just know I’ll be here waiting.”
He smirked. “I like the sound of that, kiss me for good luck.”
“Happily.”
It was soft and deep, he deepened it as held you closer to him.
“Roman, she’s here.”
Everything in him froze and distantly he felt your body stiffen. He pulled back, he met your eyes. “Stay here.”
He couldn’t read your expression but he didn’t have time.
“Alright. She wants a fight, a fight she will get.”
He went to the bedroom, practically tore his suit-jacket off. He heard something but didn’t pay attention. He could not get distracted. Slipping on his holster, he made sure his guns were loaded and ready.
Coming, out he slipped on his suit jacket back on.
“Zsasz, I don’t care.” You shouted.
“I will lock you up.” He shouted back.
Roman, knew what was going on now. He easily grabbed you, walked with you until, you were against the wall. You had put up a struggle but he easily held you.
“Now fucking listen.” He shouted. His heart raced so hard it, distantly he guessed it was because he cared so much. His blood was rushing through him and pounding in his head. “They easily killed Vanessa thinking it was you. They don’t fucking care.” He inhaled, he saw the tears. “Now stay fucking up here or I will have Zsasz, lock you up!”
He felt you tremble. “Ok.” You said softly.
“Good.” He bellowed, taking one last look at you; your eyes were watery but the tears didn’t fall. “Good.” He whispered and let you go.
He walked away with each step he realized just how much you were part of his life. Rounding a corner, he entered the private part of the penthouse, he punched in the code, then opening the door he walked in. His eyes fell onto his mask, his face for all of this.
His fingertips lightly touched the black marble, the coolness of it reached him through his gloves. He pulled it over his face. Time for action.
*****
You began to pace once Roman and Victor went down in the elevator. You wanted to stay up there but a part of you felt like you should help.
You stopped and you smelled something very odd. You felt a hand cover your mouth and nose. You barely breathed and everything went black.

So a few months ago (last year maybe? oh my god what is linear time?!) I was thinking about how I would do a live action reboot, I’ve spoken about Fate Saga before but, I was just reminded of it again and... *sigh*
Anyway, from the long forgotten recesses of my files: here’s the outline (for episode 1) and notes (for the series) for how I would have handled it... except not, because I used Beatrix* and I would not have bothered with her if I could help it. I replaced Terra with our usual cast though. (...re-replaced? unplaced? deplaced? meh, nvm.)
*Beatrix is apparently the character replacing the entire Trix (last time I dared to pay proper attention) and I figured I might as well.
Episode one:
We open on aerial views of Gardenia, showing the town early in the day and meandering into Vanessa's Flower Shop. Bloom is helping her mother out around the shop, sorting a new arrival of decorative vases and notices one is chipped. She scolds it, “first day and you're already on the discount shelf,” puts it down and calls out to her mother when she can't find the ticket gun.
As she walks away to find it, a close up on the vase shows the damage repairing itself (or already gone).
Bloom and her mother banter for a bit, and Bloom teases her mother that 'working for my summer break wasn't what I had in mind.' Her mother teases back and implies that Bloom might be getting a very late gift for her sixteenth birthday. A very late gift.
When Bloom guesses 'car', her mother mother replies that 'it does have wheels and she can use it to carry things,' before having a friendly stare down with Bloom which leads Bloom to 'it’s a bike isn't it.'
Bloom returns to the vases with the ticket gun, but can't find the spot of damage on the vase, and decided she must have imagined it.
Bloom gets back to work, though slightly uneasy.
[scene change]
It is clearly later in the day, the sun getting low, Bloom is checking her phone and walking down the street, a delicious looking beverage in one hand. A girl about the same age as Bloom spots her as she's out for a walk of her own.
Smirking the girl strides up to Bloom and deliberately bumps into her, spilling the drink over both of them and pushing Bloom into a nearby hedge.
The girl starts going off at Bloom, demanding to be repaid for the [high end fashion brand] shirt that Bloom has just ruined.
Struggling to get out of the hedge, Bloom fires back, identifying the girl as Mitzy, and demanding to know why the girl is always like this. Wanting to know what she (Bloom) had ever done to her (Mitzy) that made her want to bully Bloom, even on their school holidays.
Mitzy answers back with something inane, and Bloom shrieks trying to lunge at Mitzy while still half in the hedge.
The Hedge ignites, and Mizty bolts, leaving Bloom to scramble from the burning hedge by her self and scrabble for her phone to call the fire department.
Bloom stares at the burning hedge in shock.
[scene transition]
Bloom stares at the smoking hedge in shock, it is even later in the day, almost dusk, and there is now a fire truck beside her. She is startled back to reality by one of the firemen asking her if she's alright.
She assures him (identifying him as her father) that she's okay but... she thinks she might have started the fire.
Her father, confused, asks what she means by that, and she explains that she thinks her anger might have been what started the fire.
Weird things have been happening to her, something strange is going on. Her father looks worried but says there's likely a good explanation and they can talk more at home, and does Bloom need a lift?
[scene change]
Bloom and her father – Mike – arrive home together to find a worried Vanessa who's heard about the fire. (Because Mike called her earlier.)
As they enter their house, Bloom frowns at a nice looking car because it's parked in what is technically their family's visitor parking. She asks if they have a guest, (Is it Grandma?) only to be told they don't have anyone visiting, and the conversation moves to Bloom's concerns she shared with her father.
[scene shift]
Interior of the house, the family sits down and Mike and Vanessa ask Bloom to tell them about the things she's been dealing with, the 'weird stuff going on around her'.
She tells them about several things, seemingly small things that could just be tricks of the mind, but which happen far to frequently to be normal... unless she has early onset dementia, she asks if they know if her birth family had a history of mental illness, but her parents don't know.
Talking together they decide that now is a good time for Bloom to receive the few items left to her by her birth family.
There's a medallion with strange symbols, a blanket sized for an infant, and a book in a strange language that Bloom swears she can almost read.
Her parents leave Bloom to go through her things and let her know they're there if she needs them.
Bloom has a montage of researching the symbols on the medallion and comes up with an ancient stone ring (like Stonehenge but smaller), dozens scattered around the planet that have similar symbols. (fringe scientists say aliens, but all folk lore associated with them falls under 'fairy tales'.)
During this montage a live bunny moves around the scenes, occasionally getting hugged as an emotional support bunny. It is a strange bluish shade of grey.
[scene change]
At breakfast the next morning Bloom tells her parents what she's discovered about the Fairy Rings, and asks if she can go see the closest one. Her parents share a look and take her outside to show her the car Bloom frowned at yesterday.
“It's your late present from Grandma.” her parents tell her, and Bloom expresses joyed disbelief, then sadness that she'd missed her Grandma again, mentioning that she hasn't seen her in so long she probably wouldn't recognise her if they passed in the street.
[brief montage]
Bloom prepares for her road trip, her parents checking the route with her and helping her pack her bags, giving the rabbit goodbye kisses as she leaves it with her family.
Bloom drives for a few minutes, various backgrounds passing by the windows (possibly one or two outfit changes) until she comes to a heavy and ancient feeling forest which sprawls across the land covering at least part of a mountain range.
Bloom gets out of the car and gives her parents a call to let them know she arrived. She jokes that it would be easier to ask Grandma if only she didn't spend 99.9% of the time 'off the grid'.
Bloom hikes through the forest to a clearing part way up the mountainside.
The circle of standing stones is partly moss covered and Bloom seems reluctant to remove the moss because she's in a nature reserve. She moves into the circle and pulls out her Medallion to compare the symbols only for the stones to begin humming. Bloom stumbles as the stones light up and makes for the edge of the ring, but before she can exit there's a flash of light. When it fades the Fairy Ring Bloom was investigating is empty.
[scene change]
Bloom trips and hits the ground, retching slightly before scrambling to her feet clearly dizzy, she stumbles and reaches out to grab one of the standing stone only to pull back, eyeing the stone warily.
Then has a 'what the hell?' moment, because not only are the stones moss free, they seem to be made of a different type of stone, and she is no longer in the same place.
A loud screeching noise pierces the air and Bloom startles, but then a muddied voice says something she can't quite make out, and she decides “screw it, people! Someone will know what's going on!... and I have literally no better options.”
Racing through the very different forest Bloom quickly finds a young woman fighting what she can only call monsters. The young woman, a blonde in strange garments wielding a staff with a fancy ornament at one end, seems to be tiring.
Bloom grabs a heavy looking branch and starts whacking. The duo manage to do okay, but they can both see it's a losing fight. They manage to get close enough for the blonde to tell Bloom the plan, which is just: make a gap and get back to the Fairy Ring.
They race back along the path Bloom took and she tries asking what the hell is going on, but the Blonde is too out of breath. They make it to the Ring and the blonde tells Bloom “hands on the staff”, Bloom complies without question and the stones flare again, shifting both of them to yet another Fairy Circle.
The blonde falls on her ass clearly worn out, and Bloom turns as she drops to her knees to puke.
A voice calls out to a 'princess Stella' and a strict looking woman appears to inform the blonde that she'd been expected three hours ago. The blonde, apparently princess Stella explains she'd been attacked, her transport had been hacked somehow and she'd been dumped out she didn't even know where, and would have probably died if not for her saviour.
Proper introductions are made between Bloom, Princess Stella and the stern woman who's name is Madam Griselda. Stella informs Bloom that since they just survived life and death together, they are totes besties now.
Bloom responds with a dubious “cool... where are we?”
Stella: the Arrival Ring of Alfea Academy of Fairy Magic, duh?
Bloom: Where on Earth is that?
Stella: what's Earth?
Griselda: ahem! Perhaps this is a conversation for inside, others may be trying to use the Ring, we still have several students not yet here. Go see Headmistress Faragonda!
Griselda makes Stella sign and gives her a student ID blank and a Bloom a visitor pass as she shoos them away. Bloom looks back to see Griselda doing something with one of the stone pillars.
Stella and Bloom chat as they walk, Stella trying to figure out why Bloom's so confused. They have to stop part way down the path as Bloom takes a moment to freak out as she realises she's not on Earth anymore but a Planet called Magix, and the girl in front of her is the crown princess of an entirely different Planet called Solaria.
Bloom: what the hell is my life right now?! I was just trying to find out more about my birth parents!
Stella (awkwardly holding one hand and patting her forearm): look, I've never heard of your home world, but you saved my life, and I like you, so no matter what happens, you'll be okay, I'll look out for you.
They resolve to ask Headmistress Faragonda if she knows anything about Earth when Stella checks in with her as instructed by Griselda.
The duo pass out of the trees that were blocking their view and Bloom has a 'oh wow' moment as she sees Alfea for the first time.
[artistic scene change]
The camera leaves the duo, panning around the school, showing various other young women, (pausing briefly on a few that fans of the cartoon will recognise) before focusing back down through a window to catch up with Stella and Bloom who have made their way to Faragonda's office.
After knocking they are called inside and Bloom pauses as she catches sight of Faragonda, who looks at her with some surprise and what almost seems like recognition, but the expression is gone in an instant and Faragonda asks the girls what happened.
Stella launches into a speech which catches the audience up on her side of the story before Bloom quickly recaps the episode thus far – got a medallion left to me by my birth parents, went searching, found stones, got teleported, kicked butt, ran, arrived here.
Faragonda tells Bloom that without knowing which Ring she'd initially come from, they'd be hard pressed to send her back. They could try a thing which boils down to return call, but that would send her first to the place she and Stella had been running from.
Considering it too dangerous, Faragonda promises to look into things and offers Bloom a place to stay in the mean time, telling her she's welcome to sit in on classes while she's here – after all, Bloom could only have entered the school without a special allowance if she herself was a fairy. (The guest pass doesn’t count)
Stella, super excited about the idea tugs Bloom by the hand, dragging her from the room.
[Scene shift]
The camera pans around to show the school's courtyard from Fragonda's window as Stella shows Bloom to the dorms via the scenic route.
Fragonda stands by the window watching them.
Griselda appears beside her watching over her shoulder.
Griselda: should I prepare for trouble?
Fragonda: … yes, and rather a lot of it I'm afraid...
[Episode ends.]
Next episode the rest of the Winx are introduced, and Bloom begins to learn about the powers she's recently had awakening within her. Fate Saga exclusive character Beatrix begins cropping up.
The Winx begin attempting to investigate Bloom's past via the Medallion, and Faragonda watches on with worry.
Tecna manages to trick out Bloom's phone so she can call her parents to tell them she's met some friends and found a lead and won't be home for a while yet.
Tecna gives the location data she gained from Bloom's phone call to Faragonda in the hopes of helping Bloom get home.
Episode ends with Bloom awakening from a dream (of Daphne), and Beatrix believing she's found a lead to her own investigation.
The following (4**) episodes focus on a mix of Bloom learning magic, the group researching the Medallion and discovering the markings are an ancient dialect belonging to Domino – but that's been a dead world for ages and the dialect wasn't exclusive to the planet.
Bloom has more Daphne dreams; fragments of the dream seem to be Daphne giving her lessons of a spiritual/magical nature.
The Winx realise Beatrix is up to something and share their observations with Faragonda, but when things come to a head at the end of the season, they're the ones who are there at the right time and the Winx fight Beatrix who is trying to steal a crystalline flame.
The artefact destroys Beatrix in the end and Faragonda assures the Winx they aren't at fault and oh btw, Faragonda has found a way to get Bloom home.
The Winx want Bloom to stay with them, but she says she needs to go see her parents, but she'll be back if that's okay with Faragonda, because there's still some things she needs to investigate.
Season closes with several short scenes: Griselda and Faragonda talk about what happened, and suspect Beatrix wasn't a real person, and refer to the Crystal Flame as Daphne's Heart. Griselda tells Faragonda that it might be time to come clean with Bloom.
A sooty, smoking doll on a table surrounded by a trio of out of focus women is the recipient of scorn and derision, the doll looks like Beatrix and the trio make it clear Griselda and Faragonda's suspicions were correct and Beatrix was a fake person the “mysterious trio” had made to investigate a lead at Alfea.
Bloom returns to Earth to find her car dusty but intact, and with a little magic she manages to get it started and drives home. When she arrives her mother welcomes her and tells her she has excellent timing: her Grandma is there. Excited Bloom races into the next room where her father is, but stops and stares in confusion when she sees-
“Ms Faragonda?”
End Season
Season two reveals Faragonda was responsible for hiding Bloom on Earth at the behest of a dying Daphne, Daphne's Heart is in fact, actually Daphne who used ancient magic to preserve her consciousness so she could pass on her knowledge to Bloom, who is basically the last of their bloodline and the (as far as anyone knows) only survivor of Domino.
Season 2 introduces the Boys and the Trix. (Also Aisha if she can't be shoehorned into season 1)
**unless it’s changed or I’m recalling wrong, the Fate Saga season 1 episode count was six hour long episodes?

To the Moon and Back
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
A/N: Part 5
“Hey, hey calm down,” Spencer cooed.
“How am I supposed to calm down, Reid,” you snapped. You saw Hotch walking over to the two of you.
“Y/N, what happened?” Hotch asked with the same stoic face he always had.
“When we were at the principal's house he called her a-,” Reid looked around and lowered his voice so no one around could hear, “a fucking slut.”
“And now he slapped my ass,” you added. Hotch looked at Reid as if to tell him to scram, but Reid just looked at him pleading to let him stay.
“Reid,” Hotch firmly said. Reid nodded and left to go examine the crime scene with JJ and Prentiss.
“Hotch, I feel so belittled,” you admitted, nothing like that has ever happened to you before. You had been catcalled, but never groped.
“I’m going to go and talk to him and his supervisor,” He replied, hoping to make things better. “Do you want anyone to come and sit with you?”
“Can I just go back to the hotel?”
“Sure, I'll see you tomorrow morning,” He said remorsefully. You turned to walk away and head back the way you came, “And Y/N, you’re doing just fine here, there is no need to worry.” you flashed him a smile and continued on your way.
It felt nice to have received that praise, especially from your supervisor. As you exited the school, you felt the cool summer breeze flow through you. It ran through your hair and your clothes, it ran along your skin and made you shiver. It was nights like these that made you wish you were in high school again. Not having a single care in the world, driving through the night with your best friends, and blasting Stacy’s Mom through the speakers of your 2001 Toyota corolla.
The sky was clear and you could see all the stars. It reminded you of when you and your dad would sit on the bed of his truck and watch the stars. He always told you that if you were ever lost or confused, you could look up at the stars and they would tell you exactly where you were meant to be. The stars were the only thing keeping you connected to your father while you were traveling since you couldn’t visit his grave. His spirit was always in the stars though. The drive back to the hotel was boring, but you had connected your phone to the Bluetooth so you played Stacy’s Mom and opened the window. You got to your hotel room, took off your clothes and took a second shower making sure to scrub really well to get the filth of that detective out of your head. You got out of the shower and got dressed into your pajamas, turned the light off, and turned the TV on. It was so late you could watch the George Lopez show on Nickelodeon. You were half asleep when you heard a knock on your door. You dragged yourself out of bed and looked through the peephole, to see Dr. Spencer Reid standing at your door. You groaned at the thought of having anyone see you in this state, let alone Spencer.
You opened the door and headed back to your bed, “Come on in, Dr. Reid.”
“Sorry di- did I wake you up?” He asked, partly trembling.
“No, I’ve been up for a while,” you yawned while muting the TV.
“Oh, I just wanted to come and check in on you.”
“I’m fine, Reid, really.”
He just stood there looking at you like you were some helpless victim, “Can you not look at me like that?”
“Like what?”
“Like I’m some sort of victim,” you sighed.
“I’m sorry, I’ll stop,” he looked at the ground with remorse.
“Thank you,” you cuddled into your pillow and started to drift off to sleep. You didn’t want to fall asleep but you couldn’t help it.
Spencer’s POV
“Thank you,” she yawned. She cuddled into her pillow and it seemed like she was starting to fall asleep, I went to go sit in the chair in the corner. There was a blanket on the back of the chair, I grabbed it and put it on her sleeping body. There was no way I could leave her like that. I had no way to lock her door from the outside, and god knows what that detective will do if he gets in trouble with his supervisor. I accidentally fell asleep in the chair I was sitting in. A few hours later, someone was talking.
“Spencer, be careful,” The voice cried. I knew that voice. I opened my eyes to see Y/N squirming in her sleep. She looked helpless and scared.
“It’s ok, Y/N,” I calmly said, “I’m ok.” She seemed to stop squirming and settle down.
I tried to go back to sleep but thoughts of her swirled in my mind. She was dreaming about me. She cared about me, enough to yell for me and tell me to be careful. Reid, you’re crazy. You’re not a psychoanalyst. You don’t believe in dream theory. But this you couldn’t deny. She was calling for you. Finally, sleep caught up with me. My dreams were filled with thoughts of her.
Your POV
Your alarm woke you up with its heinous voice. You snuggled into the blanket that you’d never seen before. You looked around the room for any explanation for the new blanket on you. In the corner, you saw Spencer sleeping on the chair.
“Oh my god,” you whispered. You silently got out of bed, grabbed your blue pants, white shirt, and pink blazer, headed for the bathroom to change. You put your hair into a high ponytail and pulled out a few pieces of hair to frame your face. Your makeup was basic, nude sparkly eyeshadow, mascara, blush, and nude lipstick. When you exited the bathroom Reid was still asleep in the chair.
“Reid, it’s 6:30,” you whispered softly, while gently shaking him awake, “we have to meet Hotch at 7.” He started to open his eyes, he looked so sweet. His hair was a mess, and he was still wearing his clothes from yesterday, “Did you sleep well, pretty boy?”
“I did actually,” he said sitting up and rubbing his eyes. “You talk in your sleep, you know that?”
“I hope I didn’t say anything too embarrassing,” you chuckled. “You didn’t have to sleep in the chair, you could have slept in the bed.”
“I was quite comfortable actually.”
“That’s a lie, I’m going down to get breakfast. Go get changed.”
“Alright, enjoy your breakfast.” You grabbed your wallet, phone, badge, and gun and left.
Spencer’s POV
She walked out of the room and closed the door, leaving me with my thoughts. I had a job to do though and that started with getting ready and getting to the station on time. I left her room to see Morgan walking from his room to the elevator.
“Pretty boy,” he said, noticing the room you were walking out of, “busy night last night?”
“I don’t want to hear it, Morgan,” I sighed.
“I’m just saying,” he smirked, “she seems to like you.” He held his coffee cup as if to say cheers and walked away.
I turned away from the elevator and headed back to my room. I got changed, freshened up, and messed up my hair. Staring at myself in the mirror for a second I heard my phone ringing, I went to find it laying on the bed. I checked to see who was calling and it was another number I didn't recognize. “Hello?”
“Hello, I'm Vanessa Scartop with KCCI 8 news, I’m looking for a Dr. Spencer Reid,” charmed the voice on the other line.
“This is he,” I replied
“Good morning Dr. Reid, I was told I could direct any questions about the recent bombing to you.”
“No, ma’am, I think you're mistaken, have a good day,” I hung up the phone, why would she call me? I checked the time to see that it was 6:50, we had to meet Hotch at the station at 7. I ran out of the room grabbing my bag and coat on the way out. I ran to the elevator and rapidly hit the button for the first floor. I ran out of the hotel to see Y/N leaning on the hood of an SUV.
She looked up at me and smiled, “Jeez, what took you so long?”
“You could say I was a little distracted,” I struggled to say, I don’t run very often.\
“Hop in, we have to be at the station in… 9 minutes,” she walked over to the driver’s side door.
“Are we gonna make it on time?”
“Of course we are, buckle up.” She was so pretty with her sunglasses on, they framed her face perfectly.
My phone rang again snapping me out of my trance, “Hello?”
“Hi, is this Dr. Spencer Reid?” another woman spoke on the line.
“This is he,” I sighed, not again.
“Good Morning Dr. Reid, this is Amanda Gino with Channel 13 news, Would you mind if I could ask you a couple questions about the recent bombing at the house of Principal Givens?” “I actually would mind very much, thank you for calling,” I hung up and sighed.
“What was that?” Y/N asked.
“I don't know, actually,” I replied. “I’ve been getting a lot of phone calls from news stations recently.”
“Weird,” she smiled. “We’re here by the way,” she said while we were pulling into the parking lot.
“6:58, that was supposed to be a ten-minute drive,” I chuckled.
“We’re going to be late Dr.” she smiled jumping out of the car and started to walk toward the door so I followed her lead.
We got to the conference room at exactly 7:01, Hotch didn’t say anything and Morgan just chuckled. There was a coffee station set up at the back of the room for us, I grabbed my first cup for the day and my phone rang again, I hung up immediately this time and went back to the table. Hotch got up and started talking about the case and what we had so far. He sent JJ and Prentiss to look through some yearbooks. “Reid, yesterday you mentioned something about the unsub couldn’t feel pain,”
I got up and started doing what I do best, talking, “There is a medical condition called pain asymbolia, where patients register harmful stimuli without being bothered by it. They have been documented holding their hand over an open flame because their brain doesn’t send pain signals to the central nervous system.”
“Sounds pretty rare,” Rossi chimed in. “Are you sure the unsub has it?”
“The crimes prove it, this unsub displayed an unusual level of savagery toward his victims. And consider this, he smashed through a glass display case but there were no cuts on Jerry. That means he most likely punched through it, probably as a show of force. The only way the human body can withstand that level of pain is if he couldn’t feel it at all,” I continued.
“That must really stunt someone’s emotional development,” Rossi said. My phone started ringing again and I hung up.
“A big contributor to our sense of empathy is the way we process physical pain,” Morgan continued. My phone rang again.
“And the unsub didn’t develop his sense of empathy because it was cut off,” Hotch added, my phone ringing again. “Does every person with asymbolia experience this?”
“Actually most people experience empathy just fine, which makes me think the rest of our profile is accurate. Loner, invisible,” my phone rang again, “outcast, son of a bitch!” I answered the call, just to make it stop, “Hi, this is Dr. Reid. I actually can come to the phone right now with a very important message that your mother is a d-
“Reid!” Hotch said sternly
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what came over me,” I looked over as Y/N was trying to hold back laughter.
“I’m going to have Garcia look over medical records,” Hotch continued, I tried to stay focused on him. “What causes asymbolia?”
I looked over to see Morgan snickering, “Severe trauma produces lesions in the insular cortex, usually after a stroke, but this unsub is so young it was mostly caused by an external factor.” Morgan, what did you do?
“Like a bomb going off next to him?” Rossi asked.
“Like a bomb going off next to him,” I repeated looking at Morgan, who was still snickering.
Hotch left the table so we started to clean up some of the papers, “I will crush you,” I whispered to Morgan.
“What?” Morgan replied.
“What?” I said, playing dumb. I looked over to see Y/N, she was laughing to herself. She had the prettiest smile.
She was a ray of sunshine. She smelled like roses, her voice flows through your ears like syrup. Her hair falls perfectly off her shoulders, but today, her ponytail swayed perfectly with every step she took. Focus Reid.
Your POV
After the meeting, you were still laughing at the thought of Spencer swearing. You may have only known him for two days but he had seemed so innocent when you first met. By now he and Rossi had left, leaving you and Morgan.
Morgan started to walk over to you and you sat up straight, “What do you think of the team so far?”
“You all seem really nice,” you said with a smile.
“How do you feel about Dr.Reid?”
“I mean, I’ve only known him for two days but he seems really sweet,”
“Ok,” he said. “Just sweet?” “Derek Morgan if you are asking if I have a crush on Dr. Spencer Reid,” you quipped, “then I’m sorry to say but that information is classified.”
“I thought you’d say that,” he sighed, standing up and heading for the door, “I’ll see you later.”
“See ya,” you waved him goodbye.
For the rest of the morning, you sat and looked at the files again, trying to stay focused on the and not the only thought running through your mind, that you did indeed have a crush on Dr. Spencer Reid, but he didn’t need to know that.

Premium Rush: "doing this solo again" edition
THIS WILL HAVE SPOILERS. GO WATCH THE MOVIE. IT'S GOOD.
summary shamelessly stolen from wikipedia:
Premium Rush is a 2012 American action thriller film directed by David Koepp and written by Koepp and John Kamps. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Dania Ramirez, and Jamie Chung. It follows a bicycle messenger chased around New York City by a corrupt police officer who wants an envelope the messenger has. It was released on August 24, 2012 by Columbia Pictures.
Tumblr media
Premium Rush shows some examples of Social and Political Stratification and Global Inequalities. (precisely why I chose it for this project, totally not because I wanted to watch this movie again)
lets look into that.
article 1: Social Stratification
short summary: social stratification is essentially putting things into groups or classes, socially
A while ago, some dude named Max Weber theorized that class, status, and power are the three components of stratification. This theory is called (surprise!) the Three-Component Theory. In Premium Rush, we can see that the antagonist, Robert Monday (Michael Shannon) uses his power as a police officer to be corrupt. Being that he willingly runs around in a suit (those things are expensive and you willingly choose to SWEAT IN THOSE?), it's safe to say that he would be in the middle class. People usually do what he says because he flaunts his police officer badge as a status symbol. He also uses his being a policeman to employ goons to do his bidding, showing his power in the NYPD.
Tumblr media
article 1.5: Social Desirables
I wasn't really sure whether to make this its own article or not, so it's just 1.5 now
Social Desirables, or Social Desirability Bias, is where people do things in order to be desired by people. like when you say you liked a certain boyband just to be friends with a girl. Well, in the movie, there are very little instances of this, so I had to scour the movie for a modicum of social desirability bias. (not that I'm complaining, it's a good movie.)
Tumblr media
article 2: social mobility
social mobility is when one person's social status shifts, for better or for worse, or for no positive or negative outcome at all. (it really depends)
In the beginnings of the movie, the protagonist, Wilee (Levitt) is at a relatively low point in his career. His jobs get stolen (he's a bike messenger, delivering stuff from people to other people.) by Manny (Wolé Parks), who has also stolen his girlfriend, Vanessa. He then gets a job to deliver an envelope to somewhere in chinatown. This starts the main storyline of the movie, and in true movie fashion, it only takes a day. He then gets chased around by Monday (Shannon), who needs that ticket to repay his debt to a gambling place. (did I mention the envelope has a ticket that ensures the passage of the son of Vanessa's Roommate, played by Jamie Chung? I'm sure I did.)
On the other side of the field, we have Robert Monday, who figuratively is pretty high on the social mobility ladder. He's a police officer, which sets him high on that ladder as someone who should be respected (or in this case, feared). At the end of the movie, Monday shifts from being figuratively up to literally down. dead. I mean he dies in the end. he gets shot. with a gun. in the ba-
Tumblr media
article 2.5/1.5.2: class system
this should have been back in article 1, but this ties in to article 2, trust me.
a Class System is a kind of social stratification wherein a person either is born into a certain class, or gains that class due to circumstance. Now, since the movie is set in real life, the class system is based on Wealth, Power, and Prestige. We've already established that Monday is middle class, with all his suit-running antics and wasting of a perfectly good burrito.
Tumblr media
Now, social mobility states that Wilee moves from being in a bad spot, to being essentially the hero of Nima (Chung)'s life, granting her son passage (albeit illegal, but it's in good spirit) to the US. This moves him from the working class, to....
... the working class. He doesn't really move into a different class, but why should he? He likes that job, and biking. He can't stop, nor does he want to.
Tumblr media
As for the antagonist, Monday, he moves from middle class to...
...six feet under. he's dead.
Tumblr media
article 3: globalization
this is where we actually discuss the plot of the movie
Globalization is the growing interdependence of the world's economies, cultures, and populations, brought about by cross-border trade in goods and services, technology, and flows of investment, people, and information.
TL;DR: one world one people
This wasn't caused by the events of the movie, but globalization has brought literally everyone to the USA, mainly Chinese people. This is why Chinatown exists.
Tumblr media
New York City is home to the largest and most prominent ethnic group of Chinese people outside of Asia. There are 628 thousand Chinese people in NYC alone. Even across the US, there are multiple Chinatowns, like the more known San Francisco Chinatown. Seeing the current state of China, (*cough cough social credit system cough cough*) I'd wager global interactions between countries like the US and China lack the globalization aspect of global interactions, but hopefully soon it'll get better.
article 3.5: global inequalities
The world is an unequal place. It means that not everybody has the same access to the same rights, opportunities, or quality of life.
The entire plot of the movie is driven by the fact that Nima (Chung) is being denied the ability to have her son sent over to the US on her student visa. In order to counter this act of inequality, Nima has to resort to illegal methods, case in point, having her son shipped via shuttle. The ticket that Wilee delivers ensures the passage of her son onto that shuttle. This ticket costs a great deal of money, which is why Monday needs it to settle his debt with multiple Chinese gambling areas. (they're not casinos, but I haven't the slightest on what to call them.)
Tumblr media
At the end of the film, Wilee successfully delivers the ticket to Sister Cheng (played by Wai Ching Ho), and her son (and grandmother, presumably) is allowed onto the boat.
Tumblr media
This plot brings into light the fact that America (and some other countries as well) are just outright denying and deporting immigrants back from whence they came, even if that place does not exist anymore (like homes, and stuff). Even if someone has the legal right to bring someone along, they might also just deny their rights. Due to this, people have to resort to illegal methods to bring the ones they love to them.
I cannot add anymore images, so I'm going to conclude this review.
Premium Rush is a lovely movie about dangerous biking at fast speeds, migrating to America, and wastefully throwing burritos on the ground. It's got a solid story, well-shot scenes, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (that dude is cool.) The social cues present in the film also brings light onto how some parts of the government are corrupt and will deny people of their rights, leading those people to pursue illegal methods. For a project made in less than a day, at may 15 2021, by a kid listening to drum & bass frantically trying to do all his group projects by himself because no one wants to choose him as a groupmate, its a good movie to talk about. This blog, this post, really shows to the world the fact that no matter what the subject matter is, people can find things that talk about a certain topic, even if the writers and directors did not mean it to be so.
Thanks for reading.

@chilly7188 requested #82 from the prompt list, “what keeps you up at night?” for upstead! I hope you like it! I’m having a lot of fun with these!
Summery: Sometimes you’re reminded of your nightmares even in the daytime, when you least expect it and Jay knows that more than anyone. He knows he’d never survive if it wasn’t for Hailey.
*title taken from ‘Pluto’ by Sleeping at Last*
show me where my armor ends, show me where my skin begins
This morning when Jay woke up, he did not anticipate what the day would bring. He had gone about his usual routine of going for a run, getting in a brief workout and then cooling down with a nice quick shower all before the sun came up.
He was dressed and had coffee made by 6:10, waiting on Hailey to stumble out of their bedroom just after 6:20 when her alarm went off. He greeted her with a kiss like he did every morning and she drank her cup of coffee asking about his run and if he slept okay.
She always did this; sometimes she asked him point blank if he’d had any nightmares and sometimes she just asked how he’d slept and sometimes she didn’t need to ask him at all because she had held him during the night after he’d accidentally woken her up during the throws of reliving his darkest moments.
He knew she was just looking out for his best interests like she’d always done so he would answer as truthfully as he could and she would smile at him like she was pleased and proud and that would make him feel proud too.
She kissed him again as she set her mug in the sink, heading towards the door to go on her own short run to be back in time to get a shower so they could be at work just before 8.
Trudy was there to great them as always as they bounded up the stairs, typing in the password they knew frontwards and backwards before pulling open the gate to continue up the stairs and into the bullpen. Most every one was there; Voight was holed away in his office like usual and Jay always wondered if he’d ever even went home in the first place. Hailey greeted Vanessa and Kim with a brief hug and a quick tease, saying ‘good morning’ to Kevin with a smile. Jay inquired where Adam was just as he came running up the stairs with a lame excuse that he got stuck in traffic but they all knew it was because he slept through his alarm clock again.
They all settled down at their desks, catching up on various paperwork, a light conversation bouncing between him and Jay couldn’t help but think how good his life was right now; he had a job he loved, great friends he worked with and the best fiance who he didn’t deserve.
That should have tipped him off that things were about to go to hell.
“Do you know who I am?”
Jay ignored the question, his eyes quickly scanning the room, resting on the little girl laid out on the floor. Her eyes were closed and her skin was pale.
A slap. “Answer me!”
“Let the little girl go!” Jay looked at the crazed man, his eyes blazing with fury.
“No! Not until you answer my question!” Jay watched as the man brandished his gun and he wondered if he could make a dive for his own gun that had been slid across the room after he had been lured into this trap without getting the little girl or himself killed. He wasn’t even sure if she was still breathing; she was so quiet and still.
Jay knew he needed to play this man’s game to buy him some time. To buy the team some time. To give him time to formulate a plan without the little girl getting shot even if that meant he got shot but he preferred an option where they both avoided getting shot.
But the truth was, Jay had no idea who this guy was or why he seemed to think Jay would know who he was. He was bulky and his hair was graying at the temples so Jay guessed he was in his mid-to-late forty’s but what concerned him most was the half-crazed look in the man’s eyes; desperation, anger and fear all mixed together and Jay had been in enough situations to know that this could go really bad really fast. He knew he had to be extremely careful with what he said and how he moved in order to preserve both his and the little girl’s lives.
“Okay, okay,” Jay spoke calmly his hands still raised, “I don’t recognize you. Do I know you?”
The man laughed to himself, walking around in circles still waving the gun around in his hand and Jay very carefully inched to the right, his eyes never leaving the gun. The man suddenly turned, the gun whipping back to be trained on him, “What do you think you’re doing? You aren’t getting out of here! Not until you know! Not until you pay for what you did!”
Jay froze, his hands still raised, “Okay, okay, I’m not gonna do anything but I don’t understand. What have I done? Can you explain it to me?”
The man laughed again and it sounded more desperate, more maniacal and Jay knew this was starting to get out of hand.
The man almost sobbed, keeping the gun trained on him, “Explain it to you? Explain it to you! I’ll tell you what you did! You killed my little girl and my wife,” The man’s face was beat red as he screamed, “You killed my whole family!”
Jay’s eyebrows furrowed. He had no idea what the hell this guy was talking about but he knew he needed to cooperate to get that little girl out of there so he wracked his brain, trying to remember the guys face.
“You really don’t know, do you? How could you forget what you did! All those lives you’re responsible for! If you hadn’t tried to play hero, that bomb would have never gone off and my family would still be here!” The man’s eyes were bloodshot and he still had the gun trained on him.
Jay felt like he’d been punched in the gut at the man’s words. Of course. Now he understood, now he got it. Of course he hadn’t forgotten one of worst days of his life. A day that he would never forget and would always weigh heavily on his conscious.
He should have figured it out sooner.
“You’re family was in that church, weren’t they? And they didn’t make it,” Jay watched as tears streamed down the man’s face.
Jay snuck a glance at the little girl to his left and she seemed paler than before if that was even possible, “I get why you want me but what has that little girl done? She has nothing to do with this! You need to let her go! This is between you and me!”
The man shook his head, “No. You see, that’s how I knew you would be the one down here. I knew that you wouldn’t be able to resist. Detective Jay Halstead! The great and mighty hero! But guess what? You aren’t going to get to save her either, just how you didn’t save my wife and daughter. You aren’t a hero!” The man’s eyes blazed in fury, “You’re a killer! It’s all your fault!”
Jay’s heart felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest. The man’s words cutting deep because it was his fault. He knew that. It was all true. If he hadn’t rushed into that church that day to try and save those people, that bomb wouldn’t have gone off and those people would still be alive.
But that didn’t mean that little girl should die because of his mistakes.
“Okay,” Jay tried to reason, “But I’m down here now. You can let her go.”
The man didn’t seem to hear him, he was mumbling to himself and Jay caught a flash of movement behind the row of shelves that held garden tools. Hailey’s worried eyes met his through a crack in the shelves. A look was shared and Jay understood. They never needed words to communicate.
“Let the little girl go,” Jay tried again, getting the man’s focus back on him.
“No! She’s not going anywhere!” The man heaved.
He stared at Jay, his eye twitching before he suddenly smiled. Calmly, serenely, pleasantly; so different to his previous behavior it was unsettling.
“What keeps you up at night?” Soft and genuine and Jay’s breath caught in his throat.
The man walked towards him, “Is it the sound of the bomb going off? The screams of the dying? The charred faces of the ones you killed?”
He cocked his head, “Maybe it’s the fact that you know you’re responsible. Their ghosts haunting you! The fact that you know deep down that it’s your fault they’re all dead. And now your going to have another little girl, another child on your conscious all because you couldn’t save her. You couldn’t save any of them, could you?”
He raised the gun from his heart to his head, “And now you’re going to join them. You deserve to die and rot in hell for what you did and that’s exactly where I’m going to put you.”
There was a shot.
Jay barely took the time to draw in a deep breath before he was across the room and feeling for the little girl’s pulse.
He could feel Hailey watching him worriedly as she cuffed the guy she’d shot in the shoulder but he didn’t acknowledge her, reaching for his radio to call for an ambulance as he cradled the little girl.
The next few hours were a blur. Full of sirens and adrenaline highs. He watched the doctors work on the little girl and saw her frantic parents rushing through the hospital doors. He drove back to the district, filled out his reports and IPR, going through the motions of tying up a case and Hailey was right by his side. Her eyes had never once left him since they emerged from the basement. He could feel her watching him carefully, not saying anything. She was just there like always.
Until it was finally time to go home, Voight giving him a look saying he had done a good job and a rare pat on the shoulder as he shared a look with Hailey. He let her drive the truck home, neither of them saying anything and he knew she was giving him some time to breathe before she made him talk about it because there was no way she was going to let him not talk about it. Not after a case like this. Not after what happened a few months ago.
As soon as they got into the apartment, Hailey padded over to the kitchen to set out a couple of glasses and his favorite whiskey. She knew him well. Beer wouldn’t cut it tonight. He watched as she poured them some, climbing up on the bar stool and setting his glass in front of the one beside her and he knew she was waiting on him to come sit beside her. He took a breath, reaching for the glass to take a sip as he slid onto the bar stool. They sat there in a comfortable silence.
“Jay,” Her voice was soft and comforting and he never wanted her to stop saying his name like that. He could feel her head turn to look at him fully and she waited until he turned to meet her eyes.
They were compassionate but full of conviction, “Jay,” She said his name again, firmer this time, “This was not your fault. Not today and not the day of the bombing.”
“Hailey-” He could feel tears spring into his eyes, the guy’s words from earlier still bouncing around his head.
This is your fault. You killed those women and children. You need to pay for what you did.
Hailey gave a sharp shake of her head, “No, I don’t care what that guy said or what anyone says! It’s not true, they’re wrong.”
Jay swallowed, looking into his drink, “But he’s right. If I hadn’t went in that church that day, I wouldn’t have set off that bomb and those people wouldn’t be dead. And then that little girl almost died today because of my actions,” He shook his head in disgust, “It is my fault. Maybe I do have a hero complex.”
“Jay,” It was breathed this time and he felt her hand slide up his chest and rest over his heart, “You were doing your job. You didn’t know that there was a bomb and you didn’t know that it was motion censored and you didn’t know that you would trigger it. And today, you saved that little girl Jay because you went in.”
“But she wouldn’t have even been in that situation if I hadn’t of screwed up at the church!”
“Look at me,” Her hands gently cupped his cheeks, turning his head to look at her, “We’ve been over this Jay. Those deaths that day are not on you. They are on the terrorist who set that bomb in the first place. And today is not on you either. Everything worked out because of you and that’s what you need to focus on, okay?”
He knew that logic said she was right but that didn’t negate the fact that deep down, in his heart he felt like he was at fault and he knew that he would always blame himself for that day. Just like he blamed himself for all the other cases he’d been involved with that didn’t turn out so well. Just like he blamed himself for the deaths of his friends he lost overseas.
He’d been pushing all of his guilt over the church bombing to the back of his mind. He’d even been sleeping fairly peacefully through the night but today brought back all of the feelings he’d felt after the bombing as fresh as the day it had happened and with it all of the memories of his past mistakes.
“Oh Jay,” It was her voice and the look in her eyes that broke him. He knew she felt his pain, that she shouldered his burden and that she had since day one. He could see the love and the pain and the comfort  in her eyes telling him that he was safe. That she was there for him no matter what and he knew he could take his guard down around her.
So he cried. And she gathered him in her arms as they slid to the kitchen floor and rocked him like she would a child, peppering kisses on his forehead and smoothing his hair back, whispering to him.
She told him she loved him. She told him she would always be there for him no matter what. She whispered about how proud she was of him, that his past didn’t define him and that it wasn’t his fault. She murmured that he was brave and how he had the biggest heart of anyone she knew, about how much she loved his big heart and that it was okay to burden her. She whispered that she would never change anything about him but she wished he didn’t blame himself for things that weren’t his fault because she hated seeing him hurt like this.
And then she told him that she understood, that it was something she would never let him bear alone, that she would never leave him no matter what because she loved him. All of him.
Her heartbeat and comforting arms slowly calmed him down to where he was only sniffling. A few years ago, he would have beat himself up if he’d ever lost control of himself like that in front of her but as he sat there on their kitchen floor with his head on her chest he found that he wasn’t ashamed. He craved the safety of her heart and mind and body. His best friend, his most trusted confidant, his biggest supporter and his greatest love.
He honestly didn’t know how he had ever survived without her.
Jay lifted his head, sitting up beside her. She offered him a comforting smile, reaching out to swipe under his eyes as he rubbed his face, “Feel better?”
He gave her his own small smile, taking her hand to kiss it, “Yeah, yeah I do.”
Her own eyes were teary and that small pang of self-doubt hit him. He hesitated.
She noticed. Of course she did. She knew him better than he knew himself.
Her eyebrows furrowed, “What is it Jay?”
“I don’t deserve you Hailey. I’m so broken, you shouldn’t have to deal with all of this,” He looked up at her through shameful eyes, “How could you ever love a mess like me?”
“Jay Halstead,” She was in front of him in an instant, gripping his bent knees firmly and he forced himself to look into her fierce gaze, “Don’t ever say that. I love you with all of my heart and your so called brokenness, that’s what makes you you.”
She softened her voice, “That’s what makes you the person I fell in love with. The person I am in love with,” He followed her gaze to the ring that rested on her left hand, “The person I wanna marry. I wanna spend life with you Jay. Baggage and all.”
“This ring says I’m in it for long-haul. That I deserve you. And don’t you ever doubt that.”
Jay would go through a hundred wars, fight through a thousand shootouts just to see her looking at him like that and to hear her tell him that. He drew her forward, kissing her ring-the promise of their future before capturing her lips with his.
“I love you Hailey,” He whispered against her lips, rubbing his thumb over her engagement ring, “You’ll never know how much.”
“I love you too,” She leaned back, gazing at him with all the love she felt in her heart.
She pecked his quickly on the cheek before clamoring out of his lap, checking the time on the stove. 1:00 am.
Hailey extended her hand for Jay to grab and she pulled him up. He loosely laced his hands together behind Hailey’s back, resting them on the curve of her butt as he gently held her, leaning down to kiss her again.
She smiled at him, tilting her head in the direction of their bedroom, “We’ve had a long day. Let’s go to bed.”
What keeps you up at night?
The question from earlier popped back into his mind, “Hailey... I’m not going to able to sleep tonight and even if I do, my nightmares...”
“I know Jay,” She cupped his jaw and looked into his eyes, whispering, “I’ll help you chase them away.”
He looked at her and she looked back and he knew in his heart of hearts that no matter what, she would always be by his side to scare his demons away.

A long time ago I used to live in Houston. That was a part of my life that I never wanted to return to. But now, it looks like I had no choice. I had joined the BAU team in the FBI and our case was back in my hometown.
“So Houston PD needs our boots on the ground for the Piano Man case.” Garcia said and I silently gulped.
“The serial rapist?” Morgan asked.
“A case we consulted on about eight months ago. Twelve victims over five years.” Hotch said and he glanced at me. He knew that I was one of those women that he had hurt, he was the only one that knew. Not even my boyfriend of one year knew, I couldn’t bring myself to tell anyone else. Hotch needed to know because it came up on my psych eval, but that was the only reason. The local PD didn’t even know, I never reported it because I was scared…
“He crosses racial and social lines, ages too.” He added and kept glancing at me, I knew the others noticed as well.
“Power assertive?” Prentiss asked.
“Knocks them out with a date rape drug, and binds them with piano wire…” Rossi said.
“They wake up with no memory of the assault or how they got the permanent scar the wire leaves.” I said, managing to keep my voice leveled.
“So he’s branding his victims. How does he dose them?” Prentiss asked.
“Houston PD still isn’t sure ‘cause, you know, date rape drugs metabolize quickly, and he’s keeping them for twelve hours.” Penelope answered before I could say anything. To be fair, I have no memory of how he drugged me, so even I didn’t know.
“So why are they calling us in now?” Morgan asked.
“Because of these most recent attacks. This piece of work has elevated sick and twisted to a whole new dimension. Cases in point- Brittany Anderson filed a report after she woke up outside the restaurant she was abducted from, and Vanessa Campbell was just reported missing.” Penelope answered and my eyes widened.
“Wait, those were victims two and five, weren’t they?” Spencer asked.
“Yes. He’s going back and attacking survivors a second time.” Penelope confirmed.
“Vanessa was grabbed from her house? He’s changing his M.O. from what we studied. He’s upping his game.” JJ said.
“Well, we know he stalks them. But public venue abduction, he has the power. Home invasion, he’s on their turf.” Morgan said.
“So he’s betting he can gain control before they get to a phone or a gun.” Spencer said.
“The question is why? What is he getting from revisiting old victims?” Rossi asked.
“It seems careless for someone who’s been so controlled up to now.” Hotch said.
“What is this? On the floor?” Prentiss asked.
“Uh, that- oh, God, that is the contents of Vanessa Campbell’s stomach, which she ralphed up.” Penelope answered.
“And in the glass?” Prentiss asked.
“According to the police report, it is salt and water.” Penelope answered.
“Homemade emetic.” Prentiss said.
“E-what what?” Penelope asked.
“Quick and dirty cocktail meant to induce vomiting.” Rossi answered.
“Vanessa Campbell and her husband moved to a new address. They’ve put locks on the doors. They took precautions. She even knew what to do if she was dosed again, and it still wasn’t enough. That’s what he gets out of it.” Prentiss explained.
“Their fear. He wants them to know that no matter what, he can still get to them.” Hotch said and I felt a chill run up my spine.
Everyone was getting ready to get on the jet. I gathered my stuff up and headed to the jet early. I walked on and saw Hotch sitting there alone.
“Hey.” I said.
“Y/N, I’m glad you’re here. Sit.” He said motioning to the seat in front of him.
“I don’t want you to go on the case.” He said and my eyes widened.
“Hotch, I’m fine.” I said and he shook his head.
“No, you’re not. You are too involved with this case.” He said and I shook my head.
“This man is the reason I studied so hard for this job, I want to catch people like him and now I have the chance to catch this son of a bitch. Please don’t take that away from me.” I said and he started at me for a few minutes.
“He’ll try and come after you.” He said and I nodded.
“I know the risks, but Hotch I can promise you I’m okay. I’m not gonna let him scare me.” I said and he sighed.
“Fine, but you listen to what I tell you and don’t try and find him on your own.” He said and I nodded.
“I promise.” I said, although I knew I might not be able to keep it all that well. Hotch and Rossi were talking with the chief and JJ and Prentiss were interviewing the victims. Reid Morgan and I were sent to the latest crime scene.
“Does Vanessa smoke?” Spencer asked her husband.
“Yes, Vanessa smokes. What does it matter?” He asked.
“It might explain how the unsub is drugging these women.” Spencer said and my eyes widened slightly. Thank God I quit.
“The media has done a very good job of warning people to watch their drinks so that bars are no longer a fertile hunting ground, but cigarette smokers aren’t as careful. They might ask to have a cigarette from a stranger, or have their pack swapped out of their purse when they put it down and then unknowingly inhale PCP or scopolamine, both of which mimic the effects of date rape drugs.” Spencer rambled, it honestly was always so cute to me, but now wasn’t the time to be thinking that.
“She hid them in her purse. She didn’t think I knew. She cracked the windows so I wouldn’t smell it when I got home.” Mr. Campbell said.
“You know, if the unsub stalked her from the backyard, he’d have a good view when she lit up.” Spencer said.
“He also took out the window with something like a center punch.” Morgan said.
“What’s that?” Mr. Campbell asked.
“It’s a spring-loaded device used to punch divots into metal. It also breaks glass.” I explained as Spencer walked off towards the kitchen.
“No cigarettes. He must have taken them with him to hide the evidence.” Spencer said while looking through her purse.
“You know, it might not be all he’s trying to hide.” Morgan said.
“What do you mean?” I asked him.
“Mr. Campbell, was this on when you came home?” He asked.
“The police told me not to touch anything.” Mr. Campbell answered.
“Well, you sure got a lot of MP3s on here.” Morgan said scrolling through them.
“Was it playing one of them?” He asked.
“No. Why?” Mr. Campbell asked.
“The media center keeps a history of the last twenty songs that were played, but either you don’t listen to any of them or someone erased it.” I said catching on to what Morgan was thinking.
“It wasn’t me.” Mr. Campbell said.
“I’ll call Garcia.” Morgan said, pulling out his phone.
“Whatcha need?” She answered.
“Hey, there’s an MP3 player in the Campbell house, can you tell me anything about the erased history?” Morgan asked.
“Okay, I can’t tell you who deleted that playback list, but I can tell you exactly when the log was cleared. 7:43 P.M..” She said.
“Why erase a history of someone else’s music?” Spencer asked.
“Because he didn’t erase someone else’s music. At 7:36, he loaned an MPS via USB drive, played it, and promptly deleted it.” She said, showing us on the Campbell’s T.V..
“Cleared the history so he could cover up his tracks.” She added.
“The unsub brought his own music to an abduction?” I asked confused.
“Yes, he did, and that is creepy. Fortunately, whatever is imported onto this computer downloaded the home network, so, ladies and gentlemen, the mystery song of Mr. Gruesome is…” She said and the music started playing. “That’s specific.” Spencer said.
“That’s another reason to call this guy the piano man.” Morgan said.
“Turn it off. Please.” Mr. Campbell said. Morgan turned it off.
“Does this song mean something to you or your wife?” Spencer asked.
“Vanessa hates it.” Mr. Campbell said and I gulped.
“How come?” Morgan asked.
“I don’t know. She doesn’t know. But every time it came on the radio, she’d burst into tears.” Mr. Campbell explained.
“So the unsub just happened to play it the night he came after her.” Morgan said.
We got back and JJ and Prentiss brought the woman back in to see if they had songs that triggered them too. All of us were in the room the local PD had set up for us and looked at all the songs these women now hated.
“Lady in Red, Up Where We Belong, Glory of Love. Each victim has her own piano ballad.” JJ said.
“You know, considering the survivors lose consciousness during the rape, we think this functions as the unsub’s signature. He most likely plays the songs repeatedly during the assault, resulting in pavlovian response when they heard it later, sort of a subconscious rape trigger.” Spencer said.
“The night of Vanessa Campbell’s abduction, that signature became part of his torture.” Rossi said. Hotch looked at me and I shook my head.
“We need to know.” He said and everyone looked at me.
“No.” I said.
“Know what?” Spencer asked confused.
“Y/N is one of the victims from the first time.” Hotch said.
“Hotch!” I said and I felt everyone looking at me in shock.
“So, what song is it?” He asked and I looked away from everyone.
“Endless Love…” I said.
“So, why these songs? What do they say about him?” Hotch asked, but before anyone could say anything more his phone rang.
“Go ahead, Morgan.” Hotch said.
“We just found Vanessa Campbell’s body. He didn’t even bother hiding it.” He said and my eyes widened.
“How long has she been dead?” Hotch asked.
“Maybe five hours.” He answered.
“He’s never killed before…” I said.
“Are we sure it’s our unsub?” Spencer asked, he was clearly worried.
“He used a piano wire as a garrote.” Morgan answered.
“Alright, Morgan, you come back here, I’ll go to the coroner's office once they’ve looked her over.” Hotch said and hung up.
“Keep working.” Hotch said and pulled me out of the room.
“You need to go back home now.” He said and I shook my head.
“I’m not going anywhere until he’s behind bars.” I said, standing my ground.
“Y/N this is serious, he’s getting more confident, you need to leave.” He said.
“Hotch is right Y/N.” Spencer said coming out of the room.
“I’ll give you two some time to talk.” Hotch said and went back into the room.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” He asked.
“Because I wanted to forget about it. Hotch is the only one that knew because of my psych eval.” I said not meeting his eyes.
“I can help you.” He said, gently touching my arms.
“Spence, there’s nothing to help. The only thing I need to do is to catch him.” I said. He gently guided my eyes to look at his.
“I understand, but this is dangerous for you, he could try and come after you now and what if he kills you? I can’t lose you…” He said with tears in his eyes.
“I promised Hotch I wouldn’t go looking for him alone and as hard as it is to keep that promise, I need to. Because if I ever see him again, I will kill him.” I said and Spencer’s eyes widened, but he saw the tears in my eyes.
“I can’t let him get away with this again.” I said and a tear slid down my cheek. Spencer pulled me to him and held me close.
“Just stay with me okay? I can tell Hotch that we need to stay together, I can protect you.” He said and I smiled.
“You know, I think that’ll be better for the both of us.” I said and he smiled back.
“I love you.” He whispered.
“I love you too, now let’s get back to doing our job.” I said, but he stopped me.
“There’s nothing I can do to convince you to go home?” He asked and I smiled slightly.
“You know there’s not.” I said and he sighed, but nodded.
We walked back in the room and Hotch said the three of us were going to the morgue. So we hopped in a car and headed there. They didn’t have too much to look over apparently.
“Tissue inflammation is consistent with inhalation of some sort of drug. I can’t tell what yet.” The doctor told us.
“And the ligature marks?” Hotch asked.
“Same as before. New wounds on top of old scars.” The doctor said holding up the hand and I felt myself reach for my own wrists.
“No sexual assault, though. Possibly because she regained consciousness at some point and fought back.” He added.
“She doesn’t show any signs of defensive wounds.” Spencer commented.
“No, but I did fish this out of her trachea.” The doctor said handing Spencer a bag.
“Neoprene?” I asked.
“From a glove. My best guess is she bit him.” The doctor said.
“Not enough to break the skin, unfortunately.” He added.
“An exam glove?” Hotch asked.
“Most likely.” The doctor answered.
“Actually, it’s a surgical glove. A little bit thicker than an exam glove. If he was wearing neoprene, it means he has an allergy to latex.” Spencer said.
“I’ll have Garcia check hospital records.” Hotch said and left the room.
“Thank you doctor.” I said and Spencer and I followed Hotch out.
When we got back to the PD Hotch told Spencer and I to take a little break. I objected at first, but he said it was an order so we took a walk around the block.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.” I said grabbing Spencer’s hand.
“I understand why you didn’t.” He said.
“I can hear him still you know…” I said and he looked at me confused.
“What?” He asked.
“He sang the song, I remember his voice. I was new to smoking so I wasn’t used to it yet. I was out with some friends and I went to smoke alone, when I tasted it, it tasted off so I got rid of it, but I blacked out after. I couldn’t open my eyes, but I could hear that song and him singing it…” I admitted.
“We need to go back.” Spencer said and grabbed my hand. We ran back as fast as we could and we saw everyone sitting at a table.
“Hey you guys are back, we got a suspect.” JJ said and we looked at her confused.
“Y/N remembers his voice.” Spencer said and everyone’s eyes widened.
“Let’s go, Prentiss you try and get him to talk. Hotch said and the four of us walked towards the investigation room. Emily went inside and started playing to his fantasies.
“It’s not him.” I said.
“He’s definitely assaulted Dianna though.” Prentiss said.
“Arrest him for that, but he’s not the man that raped me.” I said and walked out of the room.
“How can Herman Scodie not be the piano man? We’ve got the medical gloves, the medical record he pulled.” Rossi asked. We were all gathered in the room, after Hotch had sent JJ, Spencer, and Morgan to go check his house anyway.
“The taunt he said to Diana Mitchell, he repeated to us.” Prentiss said.
“Well, Scobie definitely assaulted Diana the second time. He’s probably re-victimizing all of the survivors.” JJ said.
“But apply the profile to Herman Scobie, and look at what’s different. There’s no piano wire, and there’s no song played.” Morgan said.
“You think there are two unsubs, the piano man and a copycat?” Hotch asked.
“A copycat studies the original unsub in order to learn. Herman Scobie’s a doppelganger.” Spencer said.
“He’s trying to pass himself off as the piano man.” I said.
“Why?” Rossi asked.
“Convenience, maybe. If he assaults the piano man’s survivors, they’re less likely to reach out to the police.” Morgan said.
“And if they do, the women claim it was the piano man. No one thinks to look at hospital orderlies.” JJ added.
“So who killed Vanessa Campbell, the piano man or Scobie?” Hotch asked.
“It’s a lay-up. Same neoprene glove in her throat as we found in Scobie’s van.” Rossi answered.
“There’s something odd about that too, though. If Vanessa swallowed this it would be scarred by digestive acids. I mean, even if it got caught in her trachea as he choked her out, gastric reflux would be evident, but there isn’t any.” Spencer said.
“So the unsub placed that in her throat postmortem.” I said.
“Which unsub?” Prentiss asked.
“He used the piano wire, he played the song, it must be the piano man.” Morgan said.
“So he plants a piece of evidence to frame Scobie.” Rossi said.
“Okay, let me get this straight. The piano man is trying to convince us that Scobie is responsible for all of these crimes.” Prentiss said.
“And if these two have studied each other this closely, then Scobie is the key to finding the piano man.” Hotch said.
“His lawyer’s here. Scobie’s not gonna talk to us.” JJ said.
“He will when he finds out he’s been set up.” Hotch said.
“Let me talk to him.” I said and everyone looked at me.
“No way.” Hotch said.
“If he’s studied the piano man he’ll know who I am. He’ll want to talk to me.” I said and Spencer shook his head.
“No, we can’t let you do that.” He said.
“Fine. I’ll go in with you. That’s the only way.” Hotch said and I nodded.
“Hotch, you’re serious about this?” Spencer asked shocked.
“She’s right, if he knows who she is then it might put him on edge.” He answered.
“Let’s go.” He added and we walked inside. Herman and his lawyer looked up at us and I noticed Herman’s eyes flash with realization.
“My client has nothing to say.” His lawyer said.
“Good. We’d rather he listen anyway.” Hotch said.
“You’re going away fro rape. The question is whether you’ll let your competition hang Vanessa Campbell’s murder on you as well.” I said.
“I didn’t kill her.” Herman said.
“I didn’t even touch her.” He added.
“Herman.” His lawyer warned.
“From what you’ve told us, we know exactly what you think of these women.” Hotch said.
“You don’t need to kill them.” I said speaking as if I wasn’t one of them.
“They’re not worth that much effort to you.” I said and he never took his eyes off me.
“But the piano man can’t take that risk. When he’d heard what you’d done, he killed Vanessa Campbell.” Hotch said.
“He went back to an old victim, just like you, but then he places a piece of neoprene down her throat. Does that sound like an accident?” I asked and he glared at me.
“He’s setting you up.” I added.
“I need to discuss this with my client.” The lawyer said.
“No, he talks to us now, or he takes his chances with a jury.” Hotch said.
“What do you want to know?” Herman asked, eyes still never leaving mine.
“Who is he?” I asked and he smirked.
“You should know, I know who you are.” He said leaning forward towards me.
“His unknown victim. The one that didn’t report him.” He said.
“Who is he?” Hotch asked again.
“I never met him. I just read about what he did in the hospital records.” He said looking up at me.
“You were the only one that didn’t report him, but you came in with the same marks as those other women.” He said, looked at me again.
“The weird thing though, I had three chicks picked out to do next. I was gonna start with Vanessa, but… He got to her first.” Herman said.
“Who was the other ones?” Hotch asked.
“Regina Lampert and Y/N Y/L/N.” He answered.
“You’re going away for a long time.” I said and walked out of the room. Spencer grabbed me and pulled me to him.
“It’s okay.” He whispered and kissed my head. We all met in the room and tried calling Regina.
“Okay, guys, regina Lampert is not answering her phone, and I found something hinky on her, which I’m sending to your tablets.” Garcia said.
“Alright, Garcia, what are we looking at?” Hotch asked.
“It’s a surveillance video from the bar that Regina Lampert works at. Do you see the guy she’s talking to?” She asked.
“PLaying the piano. He’s taunting her.” Rossi said.
“She knows it too. Look at her body language.” Hotch said.
“Watch what happens when I fast-forward to closing time.” Garcia said and sped up the video.
“She seems to warm up to him.” I said.
“And then, watch this.” She said and the video changed to a different angle.
“Garcia, freeze it right there.” Hotch said.
“Look at her face. No, she doesn’t. She set herself up as bait.” Hotch said.
“Credit card says that the guy at the piano is Hamilton Bartholomew. This is what I know, his wife just filed a missing persons report on him this morning. She directed me to some job he just applied for, so I got a background check from that where they did his fingerprints.” She said.
“Alright, Garcia, pull Regina Lampert’s rape kit and cross-reference the prints found with Bartholomew’s, and see if you get a match. We need to get to her house.” Hotch said.
“Sending her address to your GPS.” She said and then we hung up. We all left to get to her house.
“Garcia, did she pick up?” Hotch asked, answering the phone.
“No, but we did just get a 911 call from her house, and it is freaking weird.” Garcia said and then started playing the call.
“911 operator. What’s your emergency?” A lady asked.
“Hello?” She asked when no one said anything.
“My name is Hamilton Bartholomew. I’m being held captive by a lunatic!” He said then a gunshot went off.
“She took the piano man captive?” Prentiss asked.
“Unless he’s not the piano man. I mean think about it. Would the piano man call us to rescue him?” Morgan asked.
“She could be shooting at the wrong guy.” Rossi said.
“No, it’s him.” I said.
“What?” Spencer asked.
“That’s his voice… I know it.” I said.
“The lab just confirmed, it’s him.” Prentiss said. We pulled up to the house and everyone got out.
“Y/N you stay out here, that’s an order.” Hotch said and I knew there was no fighting this on.
“As long as I’m the one that puts the cuffs on him.” I said and Hotch nodded. They went in and Spencer stayed out here with me. Hotch and Prentiss came out with both of them and Hotch handed him to me.
“Hamilton bartholomew, you’re under arrest for the rapes of thirteen women and the murder of Vanessa Campbell.” Hotch said and I put the cuffs on him.
“It’s you…” He said to me.
“I’m gonna make sure you stay in jail for the rest of your damn life.” I growled at him. Hotch took him from me and Spencer came up and held me tightly.
“Should have let her pull the trigger.” I said.
“Come on baby, let’s just go.” Spencer said and took me to the car.
“He’s never gonna see light again, you know that.” He said.
“But he’s still alive…” I said.
“And I’ll be here for you, whatever you need.” He said and held me close.

got tagged by @riosgoodgirll for this game like [checks notes] almost two weeks ago, sorry it’s super late but it got long because I ramble about ladies I like
rules: list 10 different female faves from 10 different fandoms, then tag 10 people
under cut, because it really did get long
1.       Farscape – Aeryn Sun Where do I start with her? She is everything. She’s one of the earliest examples that I can remember seeing on tv of a strong female character that has trouble connecting to her emotions, while the male counterpart of her pairing is the one who wanted to talk about his feelings. She’s also a tough soldier for a dodgy race of militant space-humans (but not really humans) whose sole purpose in life is to fight and die, and through her relationship with her fellow shipmates, learns that there’s more to life than following orders and killing people. I just love her more than words can say. She definitely broke the mould.
 2.       True Blood – Jessica God, she’s so sweet. I love her character growth. She goes from this god-fearing teen girl, to spoilt, angry goth baby vamp, to total sweetheart with a serious vicious streak when it comes to protecting those she loves. Also she’s more beautiful than I have words for and I am so gay. Like, I could look at her for hours, wow what a face.
 3.       Buffy the vampire slayer – Buffy The OG strong female lead, the first of many in my life. Also one half of my first foray into enemies to lovers shipping – you never forget your first, as they say! I love her cheery wisecracks as she kicks vampire ass, the way she mimes staking, and her bouncy shampoo-commercial-hair
 4.       Harry Potter – Hermione I saw so much of myself in her when I was a young, frizzy-haired bookworm that I immediately identified with her, hard, and she’s left a permanent mark on my heart. I only liked her more as the series went on and more of her ‘flaws’ were layered onto her character, which really brought her to life in my mind. I say ‘flaws’ because I fucking love how vindictive she is and how much of a flaw is being intelligent enough to find dirt on people that you can blackmail them with, really? Especially if they’re sucky people. When she doesn’t like someone she absolutely destroys them, mad respect.
 5.       Penny Dreadful – Vanessa Ives I have a type, and she is it. Dark, brooding and with otherworldly good looks (I still remember Eva Green as the witch Serafina Pekkala the best) I still can’t recall her character without getting a pang in my chest. The show’s ending DID HER SO DIRTY but we won’t get into that, I’m just gonna talk about why she’s my fave, I promise. She is so mentally strong and yet simultaneously so fragile at the same time, I want to take care of her so bad. The Devil with a capital D has been trying to possess her all her life, and she is in constant mental battle against him, and she just never stopped trying (until the stupid finale but we aren’t talking about that!) and she’s so strong, I adore her. When she does a tarot card spread you can’t look away, her gaze is so piercing and haunting.
 6.       LOTR – Éowyn This is another one that got a strong hold of me in my formative years and shook me to my core. From the moment I read the ICONIC ‘what do you fear my lady?’ speech I was a fan for life. I strongly identified with her attitude to life (I, too, fear growing old and useless) and her totally boss moment against the Witch-King (more like BITCH king) made her my hero. Whenever I rewatch LOTR I have a stupid sappy expression on my face when she’s on screen.
 7.       The Walking Dead – Michonne Back when I watched this show, and when she graced our screens for the first time I was shaking with excitement. She had such an iconic look – the dreads, the bandana, the katana slung over her back. Her strong & silent archetype was something I was very into, and enjoyed watching. She just oozes cool. The only one on the show with the skills to use something other than a gun on a daily basis, so her kills were not only skillful but super stylish too! Oh and I really liked the vibe she had with Andrea – they should totally have been gfs but network tv are cowards
 8.       Killing Eve – Villanelle the inherent eroticism of a woman who is trying to kill you. I find assassins sexy, always have, don’t judge me. I really enjoy the fine line Jodie Comer straddles playing her as a sociopath with feelings that can get hurt. Also the chemissssstry with Eve is *chefs kiss*
 9.       Lirael – Lirael She spends her entire life up until early young adulthood feeling out of place and wondering why she doesn’t belong, and I just want to hug her. She is so lonely that she teaches herself a spell to MAKE HER OWN DOG (which is 100% relatable tbh) and then she and the dog strike out on their own adventure, which is super cute and heart warming to me. She’s so shy and withdrawn at first but then she really grows into herself with time, and teaches herself to be more confident in her own abilities, despite the fact that these don’t necessarily match up with the powers she has dreamed of her whole life.
 10.   GLOW – the whole cast Ok so it’s cheating a bit but how can you choose one favourite woman from that whole cast? Everyone is amazing and has their own strengths and character flaws, their own little quirks… it’s such good writing, real shame the show was cancelled (another ‘rona casualty)
and I’ll tag anyone who sees this and wants to do this because I can’t think of 10 whole people lol

The Good Old Days Chapter Twenty-One: The Borderlands Job
A/N: Hi, friends! Alright. I know. I'm a little late with this, but it's also been a hell of a week. And again, I know. I need to put these on a schedule. Load them into the queue as soon as I finish them. That'd be a good idea. But anyway, here we have it. Enjoy.
ICYMI: Chapter 20: Heart to Heart
So, this was it. Walking into hell with the two people I trust most in this world. Well…Not quite hell. Hell adjacent is more like it. Here we are. Out in the borderlands. And for what? That’s right. The Old Man has a big ass payout from this place. It seemed like a classy place. When we walked in, the furniture was all leather. The walls were crushed velvet. Damn, Old Man. What the hell did you send us to? But the humidors behind the bar and the heavy smell of smoke told me all I needed to know. Cigar bar. Got it…Until I saw the stage and the runway in the middle of the room. Alright. Gentlemen’s club. Got it. Not judging.
“Alright, boys…” I stood in the doorway, doing a quick check of the place. It’s awfully quiet in here. Maybe that’s a good thing, “We’re going to collect and get the hell out of here. I know he says it’s cool if we enjoy ourselves a little, but this place is making my skin crawl.”
“That’s because you got a girlfriend, Frankie,” César pointed out, keeping his voice down. And getting an eyeful of the lovely young ladies center stage. Between César and Tony, César always was the poon hound, “Not all of us are so fortunate.”
“This place feels like the type to pay for regular health screenings.” Granted, César was a slut, but that didn’t mean Tony couldn’t appreciate the art in the museum, too.
“Probably,” I still couldn’t believe those two. They’ve both tried taking me to strip clubs before, but…Even before I started dating Vanessa, they just…weren’t something for me. They made me feel weird. And not the good kind of feel weird they were supposed to make me feel. Nine times out of ten, I’d be asking the girls when they’d get off and buy them a drink afterward. I’ve made a few friends like that, “But focus. We got work to do before you two can drool. And remember what your jobs are.”
“Yeah, yeah,” César brushed me off, his eyes wandering a little more, “Make sure our hermanito doesn’t get into trouble. Got it.”
“You two disgust me,” I shook my head in disappointment, “I hope you know that.”
“Excuse us for having a libido.”
“Hey!” a big mother fucker from the bar stepped up to us. Under normal circumstances, I’m sure he’s intimidating as hell, but I had an ace in the hole, “Who are you? I’ve never seen you in here before.”
“What?” I shrugged, “I can’t try somewhere new?”
“It’s not that,” Big Guy pointed out, “You don’t just walk in here off the street. You get invited here. And I don’t remember anyone saying you or your buddies were invited tonight.”
“It’s fine,” I knew how to handle assholes like this. And I was taught well. On top of that, I’ve been given express permission to name drop if I had to. Or, in dire situations, assume someone else’s identity. Especially if it was for the sake of saving my skin. And it always helps that the Old Man is kind of a recluse, “I’m sure a man of my standings has a permanent spot on that list.”
“You seem to think so,” he scoffed, “Get the fuck out of here before you’re forcibly removed…”
“People call me the Old Man,” I carried myself with the same sense of well deserved respect the Old Man did, “I’m here to pick up a little something, something, if that’s alright with you. Now, I’d like to speak to the bartender please.”
“You…” Big Guy backed off a little, “You’re the Old Man?”
“That’s right,” I held my ground.
“You look a little young for that kind of title,” he argued, “Are you even legal to drink in here?”
“More than legal,” I growled, still keeping a level head, “I can’t help I got good genetics and a pretty face, friend. Boys!”
“Yeah?” Both César and Tony hopped to my side. Alright. That’s comforting. If this guy wanted to pick a fight or found out I’m not the Old Man, it’s good to know I had backup.
“Why don’t you two keep our new friend here company?” I suggested, “I’m going to go pick up what we’re here for and then, if there’s time, maybe have a drink or two. After that, we’ll leave. I’m sorry. I haven’t even asked your name yet, man.”
“It’s Todd.”
Really? I didn’t think someone that’s easily six and a half feet tall and a perfect bowling ball to be named Todd. But who was I to judge? I gave him a nod, “Alright, Todd. Why don’t you make sure these two are taken care of? I got a package to pick up.”
I didn’t even give him a chance to answer. I had bigger shit to worry about. And if all else fails, I know Tony and César can hold their own in a fight. That’s just something I don’t want to have to explain to Mama in the morning. Although, I’m sure if I point all fingers toward the Old Man, I’d be absolved of all crimes here and everything would be fine. Except for the fact that my brothers’ faces would be fucked up. A sacrifice I’m willing to make.
I went into the back where an older man stood behind the bar, “Excuse me…”
“Yes, sir,” he smiled politely, “How can I help you? If I overheard you right, you’re the one they call the Old Man around here, right?”
“That’s right,” I kept up the façade. At this point, I think it’s what’s keeping my ass alive, “And I’m thinking there’s something waiting for me here.”
“No,” the bartender shook his head, making sure to keep his voice down, “You’re not the Old Man.”
My stomach dropped. Oh, shit. This guy knows. But I couldn’t let him see me sweat, “Excuse me? Yeah, I am.”
“I know Gregorio,” he pointed out, “I know him very well. Sit down, son. Let’s talk.”
“Ok…” I wasn’t sure where this was going, but the Old Man didn’t tell me he was sending me to a friend, “I mean, I am Gregorio, but I don’t remember us meeting.”
“I’ve known Gregorio for a very long time,” the bartender got an envelope from under the bar. And a damn thick one, too. Then, he poured me a glass of brandy with a splash of peach tea in it. I never was the type for brandy, but I could stomach it for the sake of keeping up appearances, “He and I went to school together for a while. Around the time he first came here. I found myself falling on hard times years later and I told him about it. My landlord was about to evict me. I was lucky if I could feed my kids. You know what he did?”
“What?” This story was feeling a little familiar. It was at that moment I realized the Old Man had a soft spot for a lost cause.
“He took my wife and my two kids for dinner that night,” he smiled, “He was telling me all about this new job he got and the man he was working for and how he had a little bit of power in this town now. When we were still in school, I was always the one mixing drinks for people. He got me the job here. And I’ve been here ever since. Mostly just to oversee things. Kind of like when some random punk off the street comes in and impersonates him. Before your mind jumps to conclusions, I’m not going to out you and I’m not going to take you out in the alley. I just want you to be honest with me.”
“Ok…” I wasn’t sure where this was going, but I was starting to love the Old Man a little more every day, “What did you want to know?”
“What’s your name, kid?”
“Me?” I thought it over for a minute or two. Do I be honest with him or do I tell him I’m still the Old Man? Obviously, he knows I’m not him, but if I fold, I could be fucked. I think I could trust his story, “Francisco Mendoza.”
“I’m guessing you work for him, don’t you?”
“I do,” I nodded.
“And just out of curiosity,” he wondered, “How did you know I wasn’t going to pull a gun from under the bar and put a bullet between your eyes for impersonating one of the best men to walk the streets of New York?”
“You really want to know?” I smirked a bit, “I watched you pour my drink.”
“That could’ve also been poisoned.”
“It wasn’t, though,” I explained, “The Old Man’s drink of choice is brandy and peach tea. It was the same thing he was drinking the night I met him. You’re not the only one he’s pulled off the streets and given a better life.”
“He’s a good man,” the bartender told me, “Stick around with him. He’ll make sure you’re taken care of. But trust me, Francisco. You don’t ever want to betray him. I’ve seen what happens when that kind of shit goes down. It’s not a pretty result. But on a less fatal note, can I let you in on a little secret?”
“Please,” I insisted, “Be my guest.”
“If Gregorio didn’t see something special in you,” he kept his voice down, sliding the envelope across the bar, “You wouldn’t be here right now. Don’t squander what you got.”
“I didn’t plan on it…” I liked this guy. He was alright. I took the envelope off the bar and felt it a bit with the utmost discretion, “Since I told you mine, would you tell me yours?”
“Sure,” he gave me a nod, “It’s Ricky. When you get back to the Narrows, tell Gregorio that Ophelia still has those legs for days.”
“Ophelia?” I wondered, assuming it was some kind of code, but I didn’t know what it was. I’ve never heard the Old Man talk about anyone named Ophelia before.
“My wife,” Ricky chuckled to himself, “He was never the type to go domestic, but there was a young lady that we had a class with that had her eyes on both of us. And she knew Gregorio wasn’t the domestic type, so she went with me. And he’s been kicking himself in the ass every day since then. I like to rub that in his face every once in a while.”
“And what if the Old Man hands my ass to me for that?” I got nervous.
“He won’t,” he swore, “He’ll get a cheap laugh out of it if anything. It was a pleasure meeting you, Francisco. Truly.”
“It’s actually Frankie,” I corrected him, “That’s what everyone else calls me. Except my mother.”
“Alright,” Ricky let me go, “Hopefully, this won’t be the last time we see each other.”
“Likewise,” I finished off my drink and took off with the envelope. But before I left, I needed to get my boys, “Oi…Pendejos…Vamanos.”
“We’re leaving already?” Tony asked, both him and César drenched in sweat. Oh, Jesus…What did they do?
“Yeah,” I nodded toward the door, “Ahora.”
“Ok,” César, the one that I thought was going to be like pulling teeth to get out of here, was awfully quick on his feet. I’m not sure what transpired while I was in the back, but I feel like it’s better that I don’t ask.
“And Todd,” I gave the big guy a pat on the shoulder, “Pleasure meeting you, man.”
“You, too, sir,” Todd sent us off. It’s good to be the Old Man some days. I liked it. Maybe if I get lucky, I’ll take his spot one day. He did say he wanted me to succeed him. I could get used to it.
Once that night air hit my face, everything was right in the world again. I peeked in the envelope and did a quick count of the money. Every last cent was there. Good man, Ricky. Good man. But then came the hard part, “Alright. What happened?”
“Nothing,” Tony kept his mouth shut, “Everything was fine.”
Which was how I knew he was lying. Or hiding something from me. Thankfully, I had César, who would occasionally lack a verbal filter. Not nearly as bad as Tony, but enough, “Tony wanted to take one of the girls home with him.”
“Goddammit, Tony,” I hung my head, “I ask you to do one thing. I take you along for one reason.”
“Don’t goddammit, Tony me,” Tony got defensive, “I did not!”
“He struck out big time,” César laughed, “It was probably worse than watching you try to flirt with Vanessa the first time you two met, Frankie. It was beyond a crash and burn. That was the Hindenburg.”
“See if I take you back here,” I rolled my eyes, “On the bright side, I think I might have my own spot on the list here. Me, not the Old Man. I mean, the Old Man’s got one, too, but because the bartender knows him and knows him well. He’s a good guy, too.”
“He knew you weren’t the Old Man?” César gasped, “Frankie! And I thought I had to keep Tony from getting bitch slapped by a stripper. You could’ve gotten yourself killed!”
“But he knew the Old Man,” I explained, “Don’t worry. I knew what I was doing. I had this.”
“And what if you didn’t?” César snapped, “What if the guy was testing you? What if he was calling your bluff and you just fucking folded? I don’t ever want to have to make that phone call to Mama…”
“César…” I knew where he was coming from. It’s what I’ve been doing for those two for years. But César was different. Tony was lucky his head was attached more often than not, but César knew he wouldn’t have to worry about me. That wasn’t going to stop him from worrying, “I told you. I had this. And if I didn’t, I knew I’d have you and Tony watching my back. All I’d have to do is say the word and I knew damn well you both would come running. I know you want to make sure I’m ok. And fuck, I love you for that. But I can handle shit, too.”
“If you ever do something so fucking stupid again,” César threw an arm around me, his demeanor a little lighter, “Don’t ever do it alone.”
“Of course not,” I laughed it off, “I’m stupid, not suicidal.”
“Bueno…” he mumbled to himself, “So? Where to now?”
“Back to the Narrows, as far as I know,” I decided, “Unless you wanted to actually grab a drink. But something tells me that even though the Old Man has told us to skim off the top from time to time, tonight isn’t one of those jobs. He’d probably kick all our asses for something like that. He told me tonight was the biggest score I’ve ever had.”
“You’re not wrong,” Tony knew that as well as I did. Usually, when the Old Man had big collections, he’d tell me to get my brothers. They knew when I was working a big job. And Tony’s beautiful mind could keep track of that shit like nobody’s business.
“So,” I thought it through, “You two come back with me to the Narrows, we’ll have a drink there, then we go home? Sound like a plan?”
“That does sound like a plan,” César agreed, his nerves a little shot tonight. He could use the liquid hospitality.
I don’t know why the Old Man would’ve been so nervous about us visiting a part of our own territory just because it was on the outskirts. Regardless, the boys and I headed back toward the Narrows and made ourselves at home in the bar. This place already was my second home. Even more so today than any other day. I wasn’t complaining. I liked this little bar. I didn’t drink publicly much, but when I did, it didn’t hurt to be somewhere familiar. I left my brothers at the bar and headed to the Old Man’s office.
“Old Man?” I poked my head in the door, “You alive?”
“Pretty alive,” the Old Man let me in, “How’d it go, Frankie?”
“Pretty good,” I threw the envelope on his desk, “I got the money. I got out of there with my life and my brothers intact. I can call that one a win.”
“That’s the attitude to have in this business, kid,” he applauded me.
“Oh,” I remembered, “And by the way, the guy that gave me the money told me to give you a message.”
“Did he?” the Old Man wondered, looking at me strange, “And what’s that?”
“That…” I had to get this right or it’d probably just sound like nothing, “Ophelia still has those legs for days?”
“That son of a bitch!” he snapped, only to laugh his ass off in the next breath, “You met Ricky tonight, didn’t you? Damn, I was hoping he was the one behind the bar.”
“Yeah,” I nodded, a wave of relief washing over me, “Why?”
“He’s a good man,” the Old Man explained, “You kind of reminded me of Ricky. Damn good head on his shoulders, but life doesn’t give him the best hand. You know? How’d he know you were there for me? Did you tell him?”
“I, uh…” I twiddled my thumbs, “I was walking into foreign territory, Old Man…So, I kind of…Told the bouncer that…”
“You were me,” he figured, “Alright. I understand, Frankie. You were right to do that. And that explains how Ricky knew you were there for me. But you do know that one day, your own name’s going to have that kind of power, too, right?”
“I hope so,” I winced, “But today’s not that day.”
“Soon enough,” the Old Man threw the envelope, “There. That’s yours.”
I froze completely, “You going senile on me already?”
“I’m not senile,” he rolled his eyes, “I’m serious. Look, Frankie, you got shit to take care of. I don’t need the money. I’m not near hurting. Your little aristocratic princess deserves a nice fucking engagement ring. You go get her something nice and head home for the day. You’ve done your bit for god and country. Besides, if I give you tonight’s collection, then, I don’t have to pay you for working the bar.”
“Hell of a tip, Old Man,” I still couldn’t believe he was doing this. But at the same time, I could. It’s the Old Man. To hear Ricky talk about him only solidified his ranking in my mind, “Thank you. I will.”
“And if you want,” the Old Man kicked back at his desk, “Throw a few bucks to your brothers. They work hard, too. I’m sure they kept a close eye on you.”
“My brother bitched at me,” I told him, “And they kept the bouncer off my ass, but…Ok. So, we do a three-way split?”
“They don’t know how much I’m giving you,” he gave me a nod, “You split it however you feel. You’re the one that’s going to be paying them one day anyway. Might as well start now.”
“What do you mean…?”
“I would’ve thought you’d bring your brothers on with you when you take over,” the Old Man sighed out, “Guess I was wrong. I mean, if it were me, I’d want the people I could trust most close to me. That’s what I got you for. I’d trust you with my life. But you know…That’s just me. Now, I want you to take your cut and get something nice for Vanessa. She’s a good girl and deserves it.”
“Thank you, Old Man,” I did my best to not start crying right then and there, “Really…For everything.”
“Don’t worry about it,” he sent me out, “Good luck, kid.”
“Thanks…” Because I don’t know how I’m going to do it or when, but dammit, I’m going to propose to Vanessa. Eventually. And the Old Man’s right. She does deserve something nice.
I grabbed my brothers, dropped ten grand in their hands (with intentions of paying them with whatever’s left over after I get Vanessa’s ring), and the three of us headed home. Tonight’s been a night. And the thought of crawling into bed was awfully tempting. Yet, I had a little something still left in me. Maybe I could find Abuela’s food truck before she closes up for the night. Before the club crowds start damn near shaking her down. But when we got back to our building, there was a perfect package on our front steps.
“Excuse me, sweetheart,” I took her hands and pulled her onto her feet, “I don’t think you live in these parts.”
“My boyfriend does, though,” Vanessa stole a quick kiss, “Hi, baby.”
“Hi,” I melted inside. Damn, this girl’s got a hold on me. She always did.
“Hi, guys,” she smiled.
“Hey, Vanessa,” César gave her a little smile back. He and I had a brief moment of mental telepathy and César, God bless him, dragged Tony inside.
“So,” I wondered, “What do you think about going to the Downtown tonight? Rumor has it, they have some killer coconut cream pie.”
“I’d love to,” Vanessa put my arm around her. I love when she does that.
“Are you sure this is ok?” I worried, holding her close, “I mean, I’m not kidnapping you again, am I?”
“Nope,” she kissed my cheek, “Come on. I’ve been thinking about that pie all day and if I don’t get it in the next ten seconds, I’m cutting a bitch.”
That’s my girl, “It’ll be a few minutes in the cab, though, Vanessa.”
“Fine,” Vanessa let it slide, “Then, we have a few minutes and ten seconds to get me some fucking pie.”
“I love you…” Hard to believe I’m already thinking about marrying her.
“I love you, too, but pie, Frankie…I want pie…”
“Alright then,” I got us a cab, “Then, let’s get some pie.”

Reacting To: The Hollow (Season 2 Episode 6)
Tumblr media
Episode Title: Dead End
Spoiler Warning: Kindly proceed if you’ve watched the episode already or don’t care about spoilers.
Tumblr media
1. The episode begins on a somber note; Adam, Mira, Kai PLUS Reeve and Vanessa are standing next to Skeet’s burial. They’re obviously distressed by the sudden passing of their friend. Regardless of what we’ve just seen, I still think that the show is going to find a way to bring him back.
2. As they make their way to the Jazz Club, Reeve tells Vanessa he still doesn’t trust the trio and the same goes for Adam. Reeve also believes that they’re still playing the game.
3. Kai notices Adam wearing the skull key he had stolen from Jules’s chateau in episode 5 and points it out for everyone to hear, including Reeve and Vanessa. Reeve is suspicious of Adam collecting random objects without keeping them in the loop. Umm, they just got together as a group; Why would he think that Adam is withholding information from him especially after everything they’ve been through last episode? Reeve is always so hot-tempered; It’s really annoying.
4. Adam and Kai get to arguing with each other and thank goodness for Mira because she pulls them by their ear, which causes them to stop. She must have done that plenty of times when the three of them were a team back in the day. But they go back to bickering when they couldn’t decide on a path to take. This time, Kai is the one to stop them. We also find out some tidbits about Kai’s parents; Apparently they don’t seem to have a good relationship with one another. I wonder if they’re separated or divorced...
Tumblr media
5. Reeve asks Vanessa (who seems out of it) to fly out to scout for locations but there’s no need for that because Mira discovers a random underground metro station behind the bushes. As they descend, Kai reminds Vanessa that he’s still mad at her for manipulating him last season.
Tumblr media
6. I’m glad Mira is around to keep the peace between Adam and Reeve. Their constant arguing is getting old real fast. They board a train and it immediately starts moving. But they’re not the only ones on this train because there is also a group of ghosts seated on the train as well and just like Jules, they’re French too lol. PS, I didn’t catch the ‘ghosted’ pun Kai made at first when he was talking to one of the ghosts.
7. They look at the map of the metro and are unsure if the train will take them to the jazz club. Vanessa points to a headline of a newspaper one of the ghosts is reading that mentions about a train that had crashed at the end of a train line. By the way, can Mira read French? There are also photos of the victims and it turns out that the ghosts of the victims are in the same carriage as them. Creepy!
8. They then realize that these ghosts are there to relive the crash again, which means that the very train that they’re on will crash too. They run over to the driver (also a ghost) and pleads for him to stop the train but he isn’t able to do anything; I guess it’s because he’s a ghost lol.
Tumblr media
9. Yet again, Adam and Reeve are arguing about which buttons to press to stop the train. Kai, who is extra sensitive to listening to people argue because of his parents’ history isn’t coping well during this time. Poor Kai! He must have been so traumatized. Adam, go get yo’ man, even if y’all are about to die.
10. Vanessa tells Kai to fix the predicament they’re in but Kai is still hurt by the bad stuff she’s done to him. I’m glad Kai is calling her out and not sweeping those things under the rug. What she did was absolutely terrible. Anyways. with his powers of ‘engineering’ (I guess), he asks Adam to pull the lever to set off the braking system but Reeve starts to butt in. OMG REEVE! Kai asked Adam! UGHHHH! It’s not a competition. They accidentally break the lever and I am so mad. Mira does the best thing in the episode so far and that is locking them out of the train conductor’s room. Thank you Mira!
11. Kai breaks open the control panel, exposing the wires underneath but he’s not sure which ones to disconnect. Luckily, Vanessa realizes that the metro map isn’t a location map, it’s actually a map of the circuitry. With the basic knowledge of French she has, she tells Kai to disconnect the blue and green wire and the train manages to stop just before it could crash.

12. The doors open and the ghosts are free to leave the train at Montmartre station. But they’re ghosts?! They should be able to phase through objects, no?
Tumblr media
13. I’m loving Mira in this episode! She is not taking any of Reeve or Adam’s BS! I agree, their constant fighting is so dumb and it’s not accomplishing anything. To be honest, the main problem here lies with Reeve. He is so stubborn but I  wonder what really happened that caused him to leave Adam and Mira in the first place.
Tumblr media
14. They exit the station and immediately, they see the jazz club just opposite of them. The door opens and from the looks of it, another team is leaving the club. They explain to our protagonists that they don’t have their memories and they have their own set of powers. These people are probably in the same positions Adam. Kai, Mira and Vanessa, Reeve, Skeet were last season.
Tumblr media
15. However, the long hair girl (we find out later that her name is Nisha) quickly assumes that our main characters are the bad guys and she threatens to attack. Reeve, who is the most annoying person on this show so far makes the first move on the only guy on their team, Tyler. But he’s not down for the count because he strikes Reeve with a lightning bolt. So, we get this episode’s first fight scene.
Tumblr media
16. Nisha also has fire powers like Kai and she proceeds to attack Kai and we get a fire on fire battle between the two. We also find out here that players can’t have the same powers within ‘The Hollow’, which is definitely not the case at this moment. Interesting! I didn’t know that. Hence, the digital world that they’re in now is very different to what the game was last season.
17. The shaved-head girl, whose name is Iris I believe (from me checking the end credits) has the power to grow bigger. She tries to attack Mira but Reeve uses his telekinetic powers to stop her. Oh and on top of Tyler having lightning powers, he has the ability to summon hail too. So, he has weather powers a la Storm from the X-men, I’m assuming. He distracts Reeve with the hail, allowing Iris to break free from Reeve’s grip.
18. She then confronts Adam and wants to fight him but Adam, with his chivalry, doesn’t believe in hitting girls. Well, Adam is gonna have to face the consequences because she grows into a giant and picks Adam up and she snatches the skull key from him. He really should’ve left that thing in his pocket. We see that this opposing team has stolen a gun-like weapon from Jules’s chateau and thinks that the key will activate the weapon. But Iris is shrinking and they decide to make their escape instead.
Tumblr media
19. Okay, so it seems to me that Vanessa had something to do with the game restarting and all of them being back in ‘The Hollow’ once again. With tears filling her eyes, she tries to tell them but the rest of the group were too busy focusing on getting to the club. Ughh, I want to know what she did! Maybe her eventual revelation will explain the glitch she had in her eye at the end of Season 1 after the game was over. And no wonder she acted weirdly when Reeve mentions about the glitch to her earlier in this episode. So, is Vanessa a glitch herself? Hmm....
Tumblr media
20.  ‘Death’ is back! And he’s working as a bartender/mixologist behind the counter lol. However, Death doesn’t recognize them, just like how Akuma didn’t seem to remember them in episode 4 either . I guess resetting the game had something to do with it. They ask him about Weirdy and he tells them that Weirdy is going to be performing later tonight.
21. Benjamini, the short-stature bodybuilder-like Italian man from the carnival last season is also working at the club. The five of them sit around a table, waiting for the show to start and Vanessa tries to confess to them something about the weapon the other team has but she gets interrupted again! It would be best if these people actually listen to her! So, is her secret about the weapon and not about the glitch? Or is it both? I’m confused. After interrupting her, the others talk about the other team they just fought and what would happen to them if they were to win the game.
Tumblr media
22. Anyways, the show starts and Plague (from the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse) is on stage and he introduces Weirdy to everyone. Our heroes try to go over to him but they are blocked by Benjamin, Benjamini’s partner/brother?, also from season 1. Weirdy proceeds to play the piano and he starts to sing the song, ‘Creep’ by Radiohead. How appropriate, given his name. I’m actually digging this cover. It starts out similar to the actual song and then it turns a corner and we get a Jazz rendition of it. It’s pretty cool!
Tumblr media
23. They do their best to capture Weirdy’s attention but the Benjamins are making sure his act doesn’t get interrupted. Reeve uses his powers to disable them and they manage to get to the front. Weirdy is really into his own performance but eventually, he notices the group and is really surprised to see them. He actually flat out tells them they don’t belong here and he thinks that they’re coding errors, despite telling their truth to him. He ends his song with a snap of his fingers, which opens a portal under them and they fall into it.
Tumblr media
24. They all teleport to the tip of a mountain, where the only thing supporting them is a weird looking platform. What’s with ‘The Hollow’ and it’s love of high altitudes? LOL. Anyways, they are all balancing the platform at different points and if anybody were to make even just a slight step, it would cause the entire platform to tip over. Why can’t Reeve use his powers to levitate everyone? Adam reminds everyone not to move, which is sound advice but guess who doesn’t like being told what to do? F*ckin’ Reeve. LIKE WILL HE EVER SHUT UP?!
Tumblr media
25. For the 4th or 5th time this episode, these two argue on the platform. Kai calls out for Mira to stop them. And ironically, she’s in the centre of all of this...lol. I feel for Mira in the picture above; She’s either going to yell at them again or break down crying from all of the stress of them two arguing. And the episode stops here. Well, this was certainly an episode filled with argument after argument, wasn’t it? It annoyed me to no end. Check back with me tomorrow for when I upload my review of episode 7. Till then, have a great day everyone! Bye!
