This is a drawing of the photo Wei Wuxian sends of himself to Lan Wangji in the fic: how to fall in love with a catfish: a guide by wei wuxian (disaster rat) by bwyn and Yuisaki !! It has a special place in my heart, not just for being one of the first mdzs fics I ever read, but also because I actually lived in a freshman dorm during the same year it takes place in, which means Wei Wuxian could have hypothetically been my RA 🥺

I think I'm the college fairy

So last fall when I was a senior in high school, I was making small talk with some guy in my AP chem class about college applications. He told me that he had applied to MIT to which I responded with "I'm sure you'll get in" I thought nothing of this interaction and went on with my life. (also let me quickly note here that my high school hardly ever admitted people to MIT and BU, these two students had broken 5-10 year-long streaks of our school having no admits to these colleges). Then, over the summer I was at work and chatting with one of my coworkers who was a rising senior, she told me that her dream school is Stanford, I responded with (as per usual) "You'll definitely get in"…two days ago she got into Stanford. And finally right before I left for college I ran into one of my friends (who was a rising senior) at a cafe. We chatted it up for a little and she expressed to me that she was interested in my college however, her top choice was Tufts I responded with "Tufts will definitely let you in"…YESTERDAY SHE GOT INTO TUFTS. Now, looking back, I realize that almost every time I've told someone that they're going to get into their dream school, they get into their dream school (with the one exception being one of my friends and Harvard…she ended up at Yale)

so in conclusion, I am the college fairy. tell me your dream school and I will tell you that you're going to get in.

I hate time. Can you believe I turn 19 on the 20th of February? I certainly can't. Time moves too fast. This semester of school ends this week (I only go two days this week), I don't know how much longer I can go after this year. But I don't know if I can handle college/university. I don't know what to do. Plus, my mom died a year or two ago. And ever since I had to face death, I haven't felt very calm or stable whenever I think about time or mortality. It's not fun. I mean, I always get by. But it's still not very fun. And I hate time.

Plus, the weather here is all cloudy and dark. I hate that weather because it can sometimes make these moods worse. Plus, if the weather changes I get headaches. So none of that is helping here either.

What does a top student's study schedule look like?

Just remember these 3 points and you’ll be a top student pretty soon!

Don’t binge study

Don’t just study for 4 hours straight, It doesn’t do much, what I’ve found works best is studying in short intervals, with something fun in between. For example: here’s a picture of my schedule for a day before a test: (It was a PA Day)

Each block in my schedule is 15 minutes, and in this Schedule I see 8 blocks for My bio test, which means I got in about 2 hours of studying. I also got:

1 Hour 15 minutes of Card Magic practice

1 Hour 15 minutes of work on my diary project for History

1 Hour of work on my current events project

1 Hour of work on my art project

1/2 hour of work on my personal essay project

1/2 hour of typing practice

and a quick run! I was also out between 9 and 4, and still managed to do a ton of work, of which a lot was for fun!

A reason I like short sessions, is because:

You can stay focused

You can convince yourself to start much more easily

You can remember better

The last point might be confusing so let me help out a little:

You remember best the beginning, and the end of things, which means, the more times you start and stop something, the better you will remember it.

2. Add fun stuff

I know I kind of talked about it here, but I need to emphasize, that binging doesn’t help memory, and it doesn’t help mood, and for that, add some fun stuff to the schedule!

3. It’s spaced out

Notice it’s not just study, play, study, play, repeat? That’s for a reason.

Studies have shown that there should be a lot of time between study sessions, to allow for the best memory recovery, which means, that if you study, play study, your mind may not have enough time in between to full recover.

Think of it like a muscle. You’re not going to do an exercise in 15 seconds, than wait 15 seconds ,and do another…

Wait around 2–3 times the session length between sessions and you’ll be fine.
