the moment bruce realized that dick would not give up his affection and that he demanded reciprocity, they had a conversation that would benefit them both. dick can cling to bruce like a koala all he wants but he has to help bruce when he needs it. gotham and the league are tired of hearing "i can't, i have to take him home." when clearly the child in bruce's arms has his eyes wide open and a smile from ear to ear.

Something I love about Edwin as a character is that he’s simultaneously such a teenager and such an old man all at the same time. Like, he’s a sassy little drama queen with boy problems, like all teenagers. But he also knits on trains and scolds you like he’s your great grandpappy when you do something stupid. It makes him such a fun character and I love it.

Considering that Bruce Wayne appears to have spent his teenage years in some horrifying fugue state of misery and loneliness before abandoning everything on a world tour of near death, I completely understand why he is so shitty at relating in most ways to his teenage kids and occasionally displays the most aggravating communication style known to man.
