it’s nearly four in the morning on another cold winter’s night with nothing but a yellow-tinted bedside lamp illuminating the room, completely silent aside from the rustling of the blanket from your movement. you sigh softly and nestle closer to the man lying flat on his back for more of the addicting warmth radiating off his body, your face nuzzling into the crook of his shoulder and your legs entangling with his. he doesn’t pull away like you expected him to, just takes another drag on his cigarette and ignores you for the most part with the weight of the past few hours— the weight of the sins he committed tonight— pressing into his mind.

you, on the other hand, were all soft smiles and feeling content as if you just crossed off an accomplishment on the top of your bucket list. for a situation that could ruin both of your lives if discovered, it certainly feels blissful and freeing to finally fuck the man you’ve been dreaming about almost religiously ever since you came back home from university for the holidays a week ago. you have no idea how you’ve never met him until now when you’ve heard so much about him, but perhaps it was better that way when your thoughts were less than innocent. 

despite being middle-aged, he was still very handsome with intelligent albeit weary eyes which seemed to hide some sort of darkness to them. you found yourself studying him from afar, noticing him not wearing a wedding ring and making no mention of a family other than his mother, so you quickly made up your mind that you were going to fuck him before going back to school. it’s not like you had anything better to do anyway.

he stayed the night in the guest bedroom because it was already dark out, your former room which was converted after you moved out (sometimes it was rented out for extra cash), and at the strike of midnight, you knocked on the door and presented yourself to him seeking his comfort for an unspecified reason with slightly teary doe eyes. it was clear that you didn’t disturb him from his slumber and that he was already awake, visibly restless, and maybe even stressed. it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what was bothering him so much. he was hesitant to let you in at first, as any good man would, but his resolve crumbled after seeing how beautiful you looked in the dim light (not like it wasn’t already a breeze away from collapsing after the alcohol). it’s surprising what a little silk nightgown can do with the thin straps threatening to slip off your shoulders, the short hem revealing your soft thighs, your perk nipples straining through the thin fabric, and how small and vulnerable you looked shivering in your lack of clothes.

Glowing H&M stair and fence replacements require Extended Standard Material shader by @crispsandkerosene /work without it, but will not look like they do in the preview/.

So this lot is more of a photoshoot set than actual building and I can't share that mess - but here's most of the CC / defaults I used in there. Also, please note this Reshade preset affected the colors.

Plant in the main pic is Bioshock 2 conversion by Misty-fluff anyone has a link? I've included it - it's actually my mesh edit with pot removed. Original conversion /with the pot/ is here.

Eventually I didn't place any grand staircase in my club - but I was going to. As my internet was down at the time, I made my own mesh edits without the stupid middle raillings. Mesh defaults for 'Sweeping Success Staircase' and deco staircase aka 'A Stair to Remember' (both are from M&G EP) - are included.

Defaults for these already exist - like this one by HL - but please note I edited Sweeping Staircase's railing posts and steps a bit. I also edited UVs, so my replacement does not require texture edits and is compatible with recolors for original.

There's also this default by simblrnova, which includes GMND fix, so the side panels change colors along the main subset (I think they also edited UVs).

You can use my texture replacement for 'Stair to remember' along any mesh default for these stairs. Please note I didn't replace side panel textures.

Matching texture / TXMT replacement for the deco fence 'A Fence to keep in mind' is included in a separate file. Obviously it will clash with other defaults for this fence, like "SN-RailingtoKeepinMind-TXMTFix" by Simblrnova.

/I have no idea if middle stair railing is used for sliding animations - if it is, anims will obviously look awkward. /

I gave Velvet Rope Fence posts a little makeover - you can choose between shape edit, or shape edit plus TXMT edit.

And in case you wonder about the microphone - it's a mesh replacement for "Small superstar microphone" (from Apartment Life, maybe?) with amplifier removed

Microphone dr is not included, I uploaded it HERE (SFS)

Steel support beam requires Apartment Life EP. It looks best in black so I recommend these pipe recolors too.

Round banquet table is a decorative object

It will pull textures from Roundabout table, which could be from Celebrations SP (?) . You can use some invisible 1x1 table to make it somewhat functional /I included invisible table recolor for the 'groovy' square table from UNI EP/.

Decor bits on the table are a part of the mesh, if you don't like it, you can open GMDC in simPe and delete unwanted subsets /FYI those plates are lower than default Eaxis plate/.

I've included small mineral water bottle that didn't make it into my bar decor set as it should.

Crystal chandelier aka Cascades chandelier is a TS2 preorder item, I've included the mesh /with edited texture, black 'circle' removed from the canopy top/. The other one is from M&G /I think?/.

Fancy planter is an add on for 'Off the hook egg" (maybe OFB?), has one placement slot. Recolors (2 in one) included - recolor says red and black, but I changed it to gold last minute.

2-story spotlighter was cloned from an ordinary ceiling lamp, and is not animated - 'light beams' are not recolourable, and are always on. It requires Night Life - I also included recolor for the other NL spotlighter, as I discovered later these are not texture-linked.

2-story curtains are an add-on for 4t2 Wondymoon Cycnus curtains converted by @deatherella - s4 original is here (T$R) - I included the required mesh and my recolors - red and dark purple.

Plumbob sign is based on a symbol from TS2 litigator podium (a career reward).

Stuff I'll share some other time: 2-story light cable extension, table lamps /also, chairs - maybe/.

And if you're up for some DYI, here's the texture I used for the club ceiling. This is based on Adele's sectioned wood floor texture, made dark brown.

How to Archive VODs and Clips

Whether you want to download VODs and/or clips for your own records or because you’d like to share them online, knowing how to archive things is handy, especially when so many streams become lost media once they’re deleted off Twitch and/or YouTube.

Here are a few programs that I use for Royal Archivist!

Of all the programs on this list, my personal favorites / the ones I most strongly recommend are Cobalt and Twitch Downloader! (When all else fails, OBS is also a good backup).

Cobalt

Cobalt has gained a lot of popularity the past few months, and for good reason! It's a very reliable, extremely user-friendly website that lets you save videos in MP4 formats, convert them into MP3 formats, or video-only without sound.

Cobalt is currently compatible with: BlueSky, Dailymotion, Facebook, Instagram, Loom, OK, Pinterest, Reddit, RuTube, SnapChat, SoundCloud, Streamable, TikTok, Tumblr, Twitch, Twitter, Vimeo, VK, Xiohongshu, and YouTube.

Twitch’s built-in download feature

If you’re downloading your own clip, this is the easiest method to use

First, navigate to your clips page.

To do this, click on your Twitch icon and go to “Creator Dashboard.” There will be a row of icons on your left - click the fifth button from the top (the one above the settings icon) and click on the link that says “Clips.”

At the top of the page, click on “Clips I’ve Created” and you should see a list of every clip you’ve ever made (regardless of whether or not you’ve published them, the clips are there!)

If you're having trouble, you can also type: https://dashboard.twitch.tv/u/ YOUR USERNAME HERE /clips/created

Click on the share button, and the list shown in the photo below will pop up.

After you click on the “Download” button (for landscape or portrait), a new tab will open up with the clip (which will autoplay, so heads up if you have your volume turned up high!)

Right click on the video and click “Save Video As”

That’s all there is to it! Please keep in mind that Twitch’s download function only works for clips you’ve made! You cannot use it to download VODs, or other people’s clips.

Twitch Downloader

Twitch Downloader is by far the BEST Twitch download program I have ever used. I’ve used several different ones, some which have broken because of Twitch’s updates, others which have fallen into disrepair because their creator no longer updates the program, but this one has been working consistently for me for a little over a year now. I’ve kept it very close to my chest because I’m terrified it’ll stop working one day, but it’s better to share resources than horde them out of fear.

Pros:

HD quality for all downloads! Whatever quality the stream was, that’s the quality the download will be (unless you adjust anything in the settings).

The best feature of this program is you can adjust how much you want to clip! Only want a 30 second clip from a 6 hour VOD? You can specify the section you want to download so long as you know the timestamps where you want the clip to start and where you want it to end.

You can download entire VODs.

When saving the file, it will automatically enter the original name of the stream and the stream date. (You can change this, but it’s very handy when you’re downloading an entire VOD and not a section of one).

It will automatically prompt you to update it when a new version has been released. (You do have the option to opt out of this, if you want).

There are a lot of other features available, however, I’ve never tried any of them so I can’t say how well they work. The Github page has a lot of examples and a Q&A section though, so check that out if you’re curious!

On the rare occasion that the program encounters issues, it's easy to use a past version, and the creators are quick to release new updates that resolve any problems. As of today (February 21, 2025) the latest version is currently 1.55.2, which updated last week.

Cons:

Sometimes when you click “Get Info” it won’t immediately load the VOD. This is pretty easy to solve by just restarting the program, so it’s not a huge issue imo.

You can’t preview clips before you download them, so you need to know the exact timestamps you want.

You can’t download VODs that are privated or no longer on Twitch.

How to use:

Download Twitch Downloader from Github and install the version that works for your computer. (In this case, I would download the GUI Windows-x64.zip version. Make sure you’re downloading the GUI version if you want a user-friendly version of this program).

Enter the URL of the VOD you’d like to download.

You can adjust the quality of the video and the length. If nothing is specified in the “Crop Video” section, it will download the entire VOD.

Once you’re ready, click the “Download” button and you’re good to go!

Open Video Downloader

If you’ve ever wanted to download any kind of video, I’m sure you’ve heard of Youtube-dl. There are different versions of this program, but some of them are a bit finicky and if things stop working, it can be difficult and frustrating trying to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it — which is why I recommend this program.

Open Video Downloader, aka youtube-dl-gui, is one of the best video downloaders I’ve ever used. It’s basically Youtube-dl with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that makes the program very easy for anyone to use.

Pros:

No coding knowledge required! VERY user-friendly.

The creator fixes user issues very quickly! Whenever the program experiences a problem, a new update is released within 24 hours.

It can download videos from pretty much all major social media platforms, including Youtube, Twitter, Tumblr, Twitch clips, Instagram, and more.

Cons:

You can’t adjust the length of what you want to download. If you want to download a 2 minute section from a 5 hour Youtube VOD, you’ll have to download the entire video.

On rare occasions, I’ve had issues where it cannot download an unlisted Youtube video. There are sometimes ways to get around this, but it’s a pain and usually not worth the effort.

How to use it:

Download the latest version of the program from GitHub. Scroll all the way down to “Assets” and select the version that’s right for your computer. (For example, I use Windows, so I would download the .exe file).

Once you’ve installed it, you can start downloading things! For this example, let’s say I want to download Quackity’s “Welcome to the QSMP” video. All I need to do is copy the link and paste it into the white box at the top of the program.

Once that’s done, you should see the video pop up in your download queue. You can queue multiple videos to download at once (you can also download entire playlists too). When you’re ready, click the green download button on the bottom right (as shown in the picture below) or if you only want to download one specific video from your queue, click the download button (circled in red) next to the video.

You can adjust the quality of the video you want to download, and in theory you can choose whether to download just the audio or just the video of a video, but personally that’s never worked for me. That might just be a me issue though.

If you’d like to change where your videos are saved to, click the Folder button (circled in yellow) and choose a download destination. If nothing is chosen, it will default to your Downloads folder.

There are ways you can customize this program, but like I said earlier, this program is very very easy to use and does not require any tinkering whatsoever. You open it, download what you want, then close it. Nice and simple!

Other Recommendations

OBS is a good backup when all else fails! I have to use OBS pretty frequently for YouTube VODs, since there aren't a lot of tools that let you clip parts of a YouTube video (and I'd rather not download an entire 7 hour long VOD for a 30 second clip). There are already a lot of good tutorials out there explaining how to use OBS, so I recommend poking around and seeing what works best for you. If you're new to video downloading / archiving things, I'd still recommend starting with some of the tools I mentioned above first.

I’d recommend making a folder on your computer for clips. I find it very helpful to name all my files with this method: [Stream date] Streamer name - Something that helps me remember what this clip is about / something that will help me find it later, or a quote.

Example: [2-6-24] Mike - I hate capitalism

If you’ve got a significant amount of clips on your computer, I’d recommend backing them up and/or saving them to an external harddrive!

That’s about it! I apologize if I’ve missed any steps, but hopefully everything is more or less easy enough for folks to understand! I’m someone who does not like downloading random programs onto my computer and I’m very paranoid about cyber security, but I’ve used these programs for over a year now, and they’re very reliable and trustworthy. 10/10, I recommend both of them.

Lastly: if anyone has a recommendation for good Youtube clip downloaders, please let me know! I haven’t found any good programs that let me specify how much of a Youtube video I’d like to download, and I am suffering. Help your friendly neighborhood Archivist so I can share more clips from the early days of QSMP.

This set was mainly inspired by the Pierre-Auguste Renoir's painting : La Petit fille à l'arrosoir (A Girl with a Watering Can). Thanks to @thebramblewood for making the perfect pose for this set !

Inspired by the original painting and a few reference pictures from the 1870s and 1880s (cf below) : a simple A line coat with a peter pan collar and an accessory overlay for accent details.

Very versatile in my opinion it could be used from the late 19th century to today easily.

This type of underwear appears at the beginning of the 19th century, worn by women and children (including unbreeched boys) under their dresses. They seem to fall out of fashion at the end of the 19th century (I'm struggling to find picture references of children with visible pantalettes past the 1870s).

I've only made a toddler version since linzlu has already made some for the children.

Amalfi - Summer Dress for AF

I felt inspired to make a summer dress with a flowy skirt. ☀

It's a mashup of Rusty's Camisole Dress (top half) and Sentate's DeuxMille dress (lower half). The UV map isn't great where I joined it but it still looks decent with most patterns...

There are 2 different necklines to choose from. I made a bunch of presets using the base game patterns.

It looks best with a pattern on it, not solid colours!!! The texture on its own is just very plain. I highly recommend @simlicious Cath Kidston patterns, they are absolutely perfect with this dress.

Lucifer: Loves to sleep face to face. Will wrap his arms and legs around you and nestle his face in your hair/ on the top of your head. Will grumble if you try to switch to spooning. He wants to wake up and see your beautiful face. (.づ◡﹏◡)づ.

If you’re the type of person to wake up in the middle of the night for a lil snack just know he converted one of his nightstands into a mini fridge. He might pretend it’s always been that way but seeing it’s filled with all of your favorites you’ll see through his ruse easily. If you need to go to the bathroom he’ll let you go and stay awake til you get back before nestling into you again. Take too long and he’ll go looking for you.

Mammon: Big fan of spooning. While he does eat up being the little spoon, he likes being the big spoon more. He’ll tuck one arm under your head and rest his hand on your chest, giving it a lil squeeze while his other arm goes over your waist and hand rests on your pelvis. He’s not trying to seduce you, he just finds it comforting.

Leaving for a midnight snack or bathroom is difficult. He won’t wake up but whine and grumble once you leave his grasp. Once you come back to bed he wraps around you immediately as if trying to fuse with your skin. Good luck if you try to leave again.

Also he runs even warmer in his sleep so if you’re feeling a bit hot get ready to sweat buckets cause he sure as heck ain’t lettin go twice. (；′⌒`)

Leviathan: Once he’s comfortable enough to share a bed or his tub he’ll wrap his tail around you and hold you close. You have a bit more freedom in the position you want to sleep in. I recently was altered to and read a treatise called Unchained Mysteries, and it’s incredible that I had never heard of it before. It’s not a TTRPG, but it is a treatise about TTRPGs, particularly mystery investigation TTRPGs, and how bad they have been for the past 50 years at actually doing investigation gameplay.

For the roughly two years since we went public with Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy, we have been fighting a war, an idealogical war on TTRPGs as an artform declared by monopolistic corporations, parasocial “”actual play”” shows, content mill YouTube channels and the loyal adherents of the above. The generals of this vast army, whether they consciously realize it or not, have a financial incentive to teach you that game design is not real and that it doesn’t matter. A consumerbase that understands game design or what a TTRPG is on even the narrowest, shallowest level is one where some people might sometimes choose to play something besides the most popular and heavily advertised game on the market when they are able to recognize that it does not suit their needs.

To this end they teach you “just ignore the rules when they get in the way of the story,” and “a good GM can make anything work.” They task the GM with putting on a one-man show so that people who do not like the kinds of experiences created by the rules of the most popular game do not ever have to engage with the experiences of playing the most popular game, but still buy all the most popular game’s products, and most importantly never buy anything else.

It’s been an uphill battle, but we have been able to carve out a little outpost for ourselves, convert others to the Game Design in Real faction, and occasionally make contact with like-minded individuals who fight for TTRPGs to be treated as a unique and meaningful artform and game, not just an annoying book that gets in the way of your improv session, as most self-identified fans of TTRPGs have been taught to treat them.

Unchained Mysteries is one of those times we discover a powerful ally, and it has been some real wind in my sails, lemme tell you.

As a TTRPG game designer, it really wears on the mind to get the same comments over and over and over from people who don’t even know enough about gleeblor to understand the position they’re taking, that all boil down to the same thing: Telling me that my work, and the work of others trying to design TTRPGs, is, at best, completely meaningless, because the rules we write shouldn’t be assumed to affect anything, that the right way to play TTRPGs is to just ignore the rules and make it up as you go. At worst, they get offended, and demand to know “why I’m trying to tell them how they should play the game” in the instruction manual for the game. And come at me with shonen hero monologues about how as an artist I have no right to even want people to engage with my art the way that I intentionally designed it to be engaged with, let alone have the audacity to express that desire. People’s right to not think about anything and put in the least possible effort for the quickest, shortest gratification is sacred, especially because game design isn’t real, so there’s no way that following the intent behind the design could lead to a more meaningful experience than just running off vibes.

And all this with the financial stress of being unable to keep a “normal” job due to disability, making my art my main source of income on top of the constant reaffirmation that large amounts of potential customers have been taught that the kind of art I’m best at and most passionate about, art that is really really trying to provide a particular experience through its design and intent, is the most undesirable kind of art, if they even know that kind art exists within the medium of TTRPGs at all.

Sorry about all that.

Due to the levels of strain on his physical body over the centuries of connecting with Sleep, Vessel will sometimes have tremor episodes. This is especially prevalent in his hands, and it happens more so when he's singing.

Vessel isn't 100% serious all the time, and he absolutely has a sense of humor. Known to partake in prank wars with III from time to time, and is prone to getting The Zoomies when he's got a buildup of energy.

Has tried to keep up with the language of the times over his centuries of living, but the manor doesn't get visitors often so it's not unusual for him to slip into some more archaic language when he speaks. Most of his grasp on evolving language comes from the books the manor supplies in the library.

Very rarely gets angry, but when he does, it's a terrifying sight. His physical form will change, altering into something decidedly more inhuman than he already is. The rage is almost palpable coming from him. As such, he tries his best to keep a tight lid on any anger he happens to feel.

Fluff:

Vessel's affections are best described as... "encompassing". He loves hard, and there's very little room for doubt as to where his heart lies. If there's anything he does well, it's worshiping. Whether that be Sleep or you, the sentiment is the same.

Very find of writing songs, prose, and poetry for you. He's more likely to show you the songs he writes than the rest, but he keeps a small journal full of his musings about you.

Loves to hold you, especially with your back to his chest. He feels most content when he's got his arms around you, ensuring you're safe from everything. He also likes when you straddle his lap; even if it's just to talk. Vessel just likes looking at you.

Constantly kissing you. Whether that be on your hand, your shoulder, your lips, or anywhere else he can reach at any given time, Vessel almost always has his lips on you.

Vessel finds he feels physically better when he's around you. Communing with Sleep doesn't drain him quite as much, and the tremors in his hands aren't as severe.

He often slips into your dreams. Part of it is because he doesn't want to be away from you for too long, and part of it is because he wants to make sure no nightmares plague you.

Vessel is nothing if not a hopeless romantic. He doesn't want to just "date" you. He wants to court you. He wants to make you feel like royalty. There's not much he won't do for you.

Quickest way to relax him (or even put him to sleep) is to massage his scalp. Bonus points if he gets to rest his head on your chest while you do.

Smut (Under the cut):

A very tactile lover, he's always got his hands somewhere on your body during sex. Groping, caressing, whatever he can manage. He just wants to feel you.

Does tend to cause property damage at first when he orgasms. Broken lights, cracked windows, etc. It's purely because the sensations your body gives him nearly overloads his powers until he gets used to it.

Talks. Constantly. Soft words, praise, flowery prose, you name it. If his mouth isn't otherwise occupied, he's talking. If he can't speak out loud for whatever reason, you can bet he's taking advantage of your telepathic connection.

Absolutely a pleasure top. Not above being submissive by any means, but if given the choice, he wants to serve you. Wants to worship you. Sex is about much more than just physical sensations to Vessel - it's a whole experience.

That's not to say he doesn't appreciate letting you take control. His favorite view is one where you're on top, hands on his chest while you ride him like he's yours.

100% puts his tongue to good use frequently. He may not need to eat, but the man absolutely needs to feed. All you have to do is lie back and let him. He'll always make sure you're taken care of.

I initially wanted to divide this in several parts, but then figured — what the hell, let's just throw everything in there. These are 21 shoes by Pixicat, converted for elder females. You'll find previews of the presets and masks in the archive.

⚠️ The bone assignments on some of the heels and platforms aren't the best! These shoes are pretty weird in terms of vertices, so they may look deformed in certain poses. Normal sim movement should be fine, though.

For elder females. The shoes are enabled for various categories that make sense (e.g., the heels aren't enabled for Athletic!), but NOT enabled for random.

Most have 3 channels; almost all shoes also had inactive channels enabled, so I disabled those because they did nothing. The presets are identical to Pixicat's. For the sake of consistency between ages, I didn't change images (except replacing one-channel masks with smaller versions, to reduce filesize).

City boy City boy City boy. This man wants to live in the city on the coast with a convertible, thrifted Hawaiian shirts, piña Coladas, and arcades. His flat is decorated with LED lights, a stylized diffuser, and lego plant models that him and Anya build together on their hangouts since neither of them can keep real plants alive. Cooking? He's actually pretty damn good at it! He is on another level of mixology so mixed drinks that glow under black lights? Daisuke is your man. Killer French toast maker for sure.

Very timid about it, but will force himself to do it in person. Otherwise it's from an outburst of emotion like in an argument or discussion

Fast to fall, slow to marry, but will have the geekiest way of proposing. Watch him pull out a ringpop.

He can be gentle. When Daisuke is aggressive it's not actually aggression he just has a hard time containing excitement and bounces off the walls. Both physically and emotionally.

Absolutely. Everyday. Like Anya he will find any excuse to give you one and pepper your face with kisses.

Every 5 minutes good fucking lord Daisuke pump the brakes. You butter toast for him and he swears fealty this man is actually so golden.

A little jealous, but just gets a little pouty or is just entirely oblivious like that. He 100% has full trust in you please dont break this piña coloda in the rain man's heart.

Daisuke loves butterfly and eskimo kisses because he's actually such a dope. Loves making you laugh it's become his sole purpose in life.

Probably the best out of the whole crew if I'm being honest. Anya is the most responsible, but Daisuke only needs 3 minutes to use his 17 charisma stat to charm kids into thinking he's the best.

Doomscrolling I hope you don't mind, he gets up before you and sings to his spotify playlists in the shower. Not before leaving a kiss to the top of your head. If you're still asleep by the time he finishes showering, he'll cook up some breakfast.

Co-op games, music sharing, epic fail youtube videos, a big comforter blanket, and you guys definately have a cat named crusher. Don't ask.

Daisuke is a very open guy, the only things he would be slow to reveal is his guilt with his parents. He hates being a downer but those blues need to come out somehow.

Slow to anger, very slow similar to Anya except she can snap in the case if her losing a board game and flipping the game over and tripping over the coffee table on her way out.

He remembers pretty well! Key details too, anniversaries with him are the bomb they're awesome because he never fails to bring up something you told him years ago.

You may notice I frequently comment on the assumptions people make about animal facilities based on their branding. Frequently, people assume accredited facilities are inherently better for animals than unaccredited facilities, or assume sanctuaries are inherently more moral / better at caring for their animals than zoos.

I want to show you an example of why I am always, always skeptical of these assumptions.

If you’re in the California area, you might have heard about Hank the Tank - who is actually a Henrietta, btw - the 500 pound nuisance bear from Lake Tahoe who broke into 21 homes in search of food. She was recently captured by wildlife officials and moved to a sanctuary in Colorado. The Wild Animal Sanctuary has three main facilities, two in Colorado and one in TX. To give you some context, it’s the biggest carnivore sanctuary in the country - they advertise somewhere between 300-500 animals, mostly large carnivores, between their properties. It’s where most of the Tiger King cats went. It’s PETA’s preferred placement for confiscated exotic animals. So, obviously, it’s got to be great, right? Except… take a look at what they posted about Henrietta’s arrival.

Here’s their post about Henrietta’s arrival at the Refuge, the large facility in Colorado that isn’t open to the public. Let’s take a closer look at that food trough…

What do we see here? An entire rotisserie chicken that is either blackened or highly seasoned, and a whole ham. Maybe a second chicken underneath the pile, I can’t quite tell. The sanctuary gets the majority of their bear food donated from groceries stores once it’s past the sell-by date, so we know those are older meats and they’re full of a ton of salt. Then, for fruit and veg, there’s a cantaloupe, mango, corn, avocado, grapes, and apples. Maybe a pepper or two, it’s hard to tell. That’s a lot of sugar and not a lot of fiber or roughage.

But… on top of it and to the right… are those Twizzlers?

Yes.

The sanctuary confirmed on Facebook that they fed this recently rescued obese bear what looks like almost an entire pack of Twizzlers.

I don’t know of any world in which it’s appropriate to feed candy to a bear. Maybe a piece or two as a really high value reinforcer for hard behaviors (that isn’t relevant here, it’s openly against this sanctuary’s ethos to do any husbandry or medical training). An entire pack of Twizzlers is just appalling. But it’s not uncommon for this facility! I have a book written about their operations and animal care (that I bought at their gift shop this spring) which openly discusses how the bears get fed bread, doughnuts, marshmallows, and all sorts of incredibly unhealthy food that comes in with the grocery donations.

But hey, this is apparently fine for the bears, according to the sanctuary’s founder. He was quoted in that same book as saying “Bears are the only animal I know of that can eat insane amounts of sugar and it never hurts them. It does not hurt their organs. They do not get clogged arteries. They do not have high blood pressure. In the wild they eat all these sweet berries in the fall, and they convert sugar to fat… so the more sugar they get the better… we would all love to have a system like that!”

Now while it’s true that bears have physiological adaptations that modulate their insulin production and sensitivity in ways that appear to prevent them from from developing diabetes, that does’t mean it’s healthy for them to regularly eat processed carbohydrates, sugar, and general junk food. And remember - Henrietta gained her fame because of how incredibly overweight she already is, and because she was seeking out human food, According to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, a healthy weight for a normal adult black bear is between 100-300 pounds. So, obviously, the best thing to do is… continue to feed her candy.

Then, later on in the book, it details how they have to bribe a camel to sit tight for a regular medical examination (since they don’t train for medical behaviors) by letting him drink a can of Mountain Dew each time.

If a zoo was known publicly to be feeding their animals Mountain Dew or a couple Twizzlers - even just once, on a rare occasion - they’d be eviscerated in the media and by public opinion. But feeding out inappropriate junk food appears to be a pretty common practice at this place, and it just goes unscrutinized because everyone assumes sanctuaries are inherently better for animals.

So, long story short, never make assumptions about the quality of a facility based on it’s branding or accreditation. (TWAS is accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries). If you have concerns about the ethics or practices of a facility, always try to put your preconceptions aside, go and see for yourself, and think critically about what you see and what you’re told.

Jayce Talis x Goth!Reader

Here's the 2nd Goth!Reader story as promised, Dr. Phosphorus' is on the way!

The two of you met while he was in the Undercity buying parts for his newest project.

You were a regular in Benzo's shop, selling anything you found while you were out scavenging. You were in the back, looking for something in particular for a project of your own. When you came from the back, Jayce digging through a box of power converters.

"Whos this guy?" You asked as you walked behind the counter.

Ekko shrugged. "Some topsider."

When he finally found the one he needed, Jayce dropped it in his box and slammed it on the counter.

"How much for all this?" He asked.

Ekko looked at you, then back at him. "Um... let me look."

As Ekko looked through the box, the Jayce's gaze drifted to you. You were too busy going through Benzo's knick-knack box to notice, but he was completely infatuated with you. So infatuated, he didn't even hear Ekko tell him the accurate price. When Jayce didn't respond, Ekko took advantage and doubled the price. Jumping out of his thoughts, Jayce quickly paid, and as Ekko happily scurried away, Jayce kept his eyes on you.

Feeling his gaze, you looked up at him through your lashes. "Can I help you?"

He looked almost startled when you acknowledged him. "Oh-um. I was... um... I-I was just... uh, I wa-wanted to say you... you-you look... nice."

You couldn't help but chuckle at his flustered self. "Thanks. Not so bad yourself, Topsider."

"To-Topsider? How-How'd you- I mean, what? Me, top-topsider no! No I'm not..." He realized he wasn't convincing you at all.

You laughed once again. "You're funny. I like that."

"You-You do?" He couldn't believe his luck right now. Grabbing you supplies, you walked around the counter with a pen in your hand. You pulled his hand twords you and wrote down your information on it and without another word, you left.

♡ Your first date with Jayce was to the History of Piltovian Technology Muesum. He felt a little embarrassed by it at first but was thrilled to find out how much you loved it.

♡ People think Jayce is haunted after the one time you spent the day on campus with him and Viktor. Several students reported a ghost sighting that day.

♡ Speaking of Viktor, the two of you got along like a house on fire

♡ Being that you both grew up in the Undercity, you both had a similar thought process.

♡ Despite the chaoticness of the two of you, he loved seeing his best friend and lover get along.

♡ He also introduced you to his mom not even a week into dating (even she felt like it was a little early, but she welcomed you with open arms)

♡ Kinda thinks your a witch because of all the "potions" he finds you making (theyre just medicines and face creams)

♡ If you don't live with him, he will visit you almost every single day.

♡ But if you do live with him, or at least stay at his place the most, he will let you have full control over decorating. He's a scientist, not an interior decorator. The most "fun" thing in his apartment was a dead plant on the kitchen windowsill.

♡ If you're missing a certain ring or bracelet, there's a 99% chance Jayce took it before when left that morning. (He says wearing it feels like having you there spiritually)

♡ One day, he had you meet the Kiraman's. And you were a nervous wreck.

♡ Not only were they Jayce's sponsors, but they were close friends with him, and you didn't want to ruin it.

♡ When Jayce caught you dumbing down you outfit to one thst was more casual, he FREAKED out.

♡ He hated that you felt the need to change yourself. "If they can't see past the makeup, then they're sad for just assuming who you are without even getting to know you." (He made you cry, thank God you didn't have any makeup on)

♡ Caitlyn was a little scared of you, but eased up when she saw the look of pure love in Jayce's eyes everytime he looked at you.

♡ He bases a lot of his designs around you. This lead to many if the Hex-Tech machinery having Gothic-like designs.

♡ He tries so hard to get involved in your intrests, but he doesn't understand it.

♡ Pre-Time jump Jayce gets very sick when it comes to any level if gore, so horror movies were out. He didn't quiet understand the appeal of Goth music, but he loved seeing the way your face lit up when you would explain the song or the band to him

♡ When Jayce left with Himerdinger and Ekko to investigate the Hex Core, he ran into you. He tried his best to explain everything, and he knew you didn't understand but just being able to air it all out calmed him down.

♡ You were already late for work or else you would've went with, so instead you have him your black cuff. It was his favorite because he had a matching pair that was his house colors.

♡ And good thing you gave it to him, it was the only thing that kept him mildly sane when he was in the other timeline.timeliness. He would spend hours just staring at it, trying to hold on to the memory of you

♡ When he got back, the first thing he did was try and find you. When he did, he couldn't help but kiss you until your black lipsticks rubbed off of you and onto him.

sure I made the gifset a while ago so don't have the psds saved but i decided to make a new gifset with a similar shape effect and show you how i made that :)

tutorial below the banner/cut

first start by making and colouring your base gif as you'd like. for the example i'm making today i'd like a pink gif.

for simplicity i'll put all the colouring layers in a group so it is easier to see what's going on with the shapes, but this is not a step i usually take.

once you've got your base gif ready search for the image/shape you would like to appear on your gif. in this case i searched for glinda's crown :)

make sure the image has no background and save it. if needed go to https://www.remove.bg/ and remove the background from the image then save it.

open your saved image in photoshop and drag it onto your gif. typically i drag it on the gray area outside the image canvas so it will land in the centre of the canvas.

if the image is too big resize it by using the transform function (ctrl +t)

right click the image layer and go to "Blending Options" (you can also do this by double clicking the layer (but not on the layer name as this will prompt renaming the layer)

go to color overlay and change the colour to white with blend mode normal and click ok

convert the new image layer to a smart object by right clicking and selecting the relevant option

change the blending mode of the new smart object to 'difference'

go back into blending options now and change the color overlay to the desired colour with the blending mode set to 'color'

at this point you can also add a stroke and drop shadow

this results in the below result

i noticed a bit of background missed from remove.bg

so i now add a layer mask and mask over the errant mark

and that's the basics of how to make a shape like the one in the gifset you linked. you can now add any text or other embellishments you may like.

a few other tips:

play around with your stroke settings, i did this a lot when making the so highschool gifset (e.g. i think the basketball one used the centre option)

the stroke option will outline what doesn't have a solid fill. to get each part of the basketball outlined like it is in the gifset i used an image like the first one below where the lines on the ball were also transparent to get the strokes i wanted (if that makes sense). if the whole image was solid, like the second image the outline would just be a circle basically.

in most cases the method i showed here is the best method, but for the so highschool book image i did something slightly different where instead of doing a straight smart object i also duplicated the shape on top with all the details left in. i applied the same effects to the bottom layer as above and on the duplicated layer also set that to difference and added a color overlay like the above

gives a result like this:

you can tweak how this looks a bit by using a selective colour layer clipped to the top layer. i wanted a bit more definition on the hat so i ended up with this after tweaking the neutral and blacks channels

overall my advice is to experiment and see what you like as that is what i basically do :)
