It seems poetic in a cruel sort of way that less than a week ago you were walking Etihad Campus and feeling like you were on top of the world━ working a new albeit temporary gig, adding the Manchester City name to your list of clients, having photos of world-renowned footballers in your portfolio━ and now you’ve resigned yourself to hiding away in the women’s restroom, locked in a stall because it’s the only place you could think of where nobody would be able to find you.

You’re on the verge of tears and feeling rather stupid for it.

It’s the third time today alone that your call has gone straight to voicemail, and with the dozens of unread texts you’ve sent in the last week added to the mix, it’s starting to paint a picture you’re not very happy with. Lando is ignoring you. Or he’s blocked you. Or he’s blocked you because he’s ignoring you━

You bite down on your lip, hard, to keep back the sob crawling its way up your throat.

You’re not a PR officer, you hadn’t been lying when you told Garrett that, but you’ve spent enough time around the McLaren PR teams that you’ve picked up enough tips and tricks to know, at the very least, that the best thing you can do is just ignore the comments.

That’s what they tell all the athletes.

What they don’t tell the athletes is that ignoring the comments is much easier said than done, especially when your career requires you to have such a significant online presence. And the thing is, despite all of these strangers hounding you with every name under the sun and criticizing your capabilities, qualifications, and very existence, the thing that hurts the most is the radio silence from the only person you know could make it all better.

Now, more than ever, you need your best friend. But he isn’t here.

You tuck your phone into your jacket pocket and unlock the stall with great reluctance. You know better than to be hiding away, shirking your responsibilities while crying over a few missed phone calls. You have a job to do, and a real professional wouldn’t let something as simple as a handful of tasteless comments get in the way of that.

You should be used to them. It’s nothing you haven’t seen before.

Your first month at McLaren wasn’t entirely different.

When you were first hired on, Carlos had been in Formula One for a handful of years already and had built up a devotedly loyal fanbase with a decently large percentage of possessive fangirls who had come for your head the moment your existence had been announced.

The McLaren Instagram account had posted a picture of you standing between their two grinning drivers, your camera strung around your neck, with a very nice caption welcoming you to the team, and despite no indication that you were by any means involved with either of them in a way that went beyond professional, the comments had been taken over by feral teenage girls who saw the act of you simply standing near Carlos to be a direct threat against their “chances.”

Though it had been frustrating being met with childish threats and petty insults in your comments, you hadn’t really held it against any of them. You remember being a teenage girl and crushing on a celebrity. Deep down you knew you never had a chance with them, but that hadn’t stopped you from hanging posters in your bedroom and doodling their name beneath yours inside of scribbled hearts in your diary.

Regardless, it had taken close to a month for the negativity to die down, and you hadn’t had Lando then, either, so now shouldn’t be much different.

In fact, everyone on the Manchester City team━ trainers, physios, media coordinatiors, and anyone inbetween━ has been very polite about everything between you and Garrett. A lot of them have just avoided saying anything about it, which you’re very grateful for because you don’t think you’d be able to hold back your grimace while thanking them for their well wishes, and the few who have mentioned it typically only say something vague like a wishing you the best of luck or hoping you’re happy.

An intern gave you a sympathetic smile the other day, and you’d nearly burst into tears in the middle of the office of the Director of Communications, so you know you aren’t truly alone in this.

You just feel alone.

Exiting the bathroom is a simple affair. There’s no one standing post outside ready to give you any shit for being hidden away, and nobody comes sprinting around the corner as you make your way down the hall to the press conference room that’s been temporarily turned into your base of operations.

You think you’ll probably be able to go the rest of the afternoon without running into anyone, when you open your door and find━ sitting in the front row of the seats typically saved for journalists and the press, scrolling across his phone with a disinterested look painted across his face━ Jack Grealish.

“Jack,” you greet, a bit shocked. You close the door to the room gently behind you, and cross the distance to your desk. “Did we have a meeting scheduled? It must’ve completely slipped my mind, I sincerely apologize.”

He offers you a polite smile. “No, we didn’t, so no need to be sorry. I actually just wanted to check in. See how things are going with everything.”

You blink at him in surprise. Apart from Garrett, you haven’t really had much time to speak with the other players. They wish you good morning and good afternoon when they see you, and if a ball goes astray they always call out for you to watch your head, but between their morning training and their afternoon training, their strategy reviews at lunch, and the frequent in between meetings with physios, nutritionists, and trainers, they don’t get much time to chit chat with a simple photographer.

You clear your throat, “Erm, it’s going well. I’ve gotten some really good shots these past few days. There’s one with Rodrigo that I’m particularly proud of. It should do well with the fans.”

“And things with Ward?”

You purse your lips.

“Figured.” Jack sighs. “Look, nearly everyone you run into here knows or has at least some inkling into what he’s like. He’s a prick. None of the lads on the team like him, it’s why the managers are trying to get him out of here.”

You lower yourself down into your chair. “He told me they were planning to trade him off because of his reputation.”

Jack scoffs, “Yeah, ‘cause that’s the ‘official’ reason. They can’t cut his contract early for legal reasons, so they’re waiting for it to expire and coming up with an excuse for why they ain’t re-signing him. It’s really just ‘cause the rest of us can’t keep dealing with his massive ego and the fact that he’s a misogynistic fuck who doesn’t know the first thing about respect.”

“Fucking tell me about it,” you mutter with a sigh.

If he expected you to defend Garrett and is surprised by the fact that you haven’t, Jack doesn’t show it. He looks relaxed sitting across from you, like you’re having a casual conversation and not actively shit talking a member of his team. It gives you the impression that he knows significantly more about Garrett than you do, and that because of what he knows he probably figured out that one party in the relationship is not the most willing of participants.

“How’d you get all wrapped up it in then? Didn’t figure you to be the type to go after pricks like Ward.”

You debate over whether you should tell him or not. There isn’t much Jack can do about the situation regardless, but it would at least get things off your chest and if someone else knew then maybe you wouldn’t feel so alone anymore.

There’s only so many days you can spend hiding out in the women’s restroom trying not to bawl your eyes out, and you’ve already reached your limit.

You heave a sigh, “It’s kind of fucked up really.” A pen on your desk catches your attention and you start to fiddle with it, avoiding Jack’s eyes which have focused directly onto you. “He asked if I would help him fix up his reputation by pretending to be his girlfriend so he could show everyone that he’s matured and can hold down a steady relationship. When I told him no, he threatened to make up a lie about inappropriate conduct to get me fired and blacklisted from the industry, so for the sake of preserving my career I agreed.”

“Bloody fucking hell,” Jack murmurs, shaking his head. “I’m real sorry he did that, Y/N.”

You shrug. “It’s happened, so, there’s nothing I can really do except wait it out at this point.”

When you look up and meet his gaze, Jack looks murderous. His hands are clenched into fists on the armrests, knuckles white with the strength of his grip. His brows are furrowed, and his lips are twisted downward in a scowl.

“If you need anything,” he starts, “let me know. And I mean it. We all know how Ward can be. He’s a knobhead. So if you need anything━” his emphasis on the word and what that implies makes you feel more comforted than anything has since the whole fiasco started, “━then you let me know, or you tell one of the other boys and they’ll find me, alright?”

All you can do is nod.

It takes a while, but Hikaru eventually does do it, while Kaoru spies hoping for the best for his brother

Your grumpyness doesn't bother him, because his twin brother is grumpy too, so he's used to it

He'll listen to you rant and complain and try and give you advice

another issue with narcolepsy!!! is that the media and mainstream depictions of it are so fucking insultingly simple and do NOTHING to represent the devastation it can cause and how physically disabling it is.

Sleep is something fundamental to health. if your sleep is disordered and impaired and you aren't getting enough good restorative sleep, you are going to suffer long term health impacts and horrible quality of life. you have to be a fucking ambassador with an encyclopedic knowledge of how it's not the funny "fall asleep when emotional disorder" (that's called cataplexy and it isn't falling asleep, it's muscle weakness and a loss of muscle control. it's also only in type 1 narcolepsy) or the "falls asleep anywhere and you're refreshed :) disorder" (for many people, it's not being "refreshed", it's just Not Being As Tired and it doesn't last very long) or the simple "it means you're sleepy all the time"

it's often severe sleep cycle disturbances during both night AND day and feeling tired all. the. time. because your brain can't properly regulate sleep cycles so you can't get enough deep sleep. ever.

imagine never getting enough sleep fucking ever. It doesn't matter how MUCH you sleep, because your brain can't moderate your sleep cycles properly and you can't go into the stages of sleep that your brain and body need. imagine the impact that would have on your brain and body. imagine your own brain literally not physically fucking working right. imagine the full body, unrelenting fatigue.

it's a severe neurological and neuroimmune (at least N1 usually is neuroautoimmune) disorder and it's actually severely underdiagnosed because not enough people have access to the specific kind of sleep studies they (insurance companies tbh) require to diagnosis it

when are people going to realize we are fucking suffering and stop overwhelmingly handwaving or treating narcolepsy like a punchline or funny quirk?

everyone who thinks it's cute or quirky actively contributes to how horribly we are treated and how little we are taken seriously unless we sit there with essays that spoonfeed how critical proper sleep cycling is to longterm health and quality of life.

even then, why should anyone care about us physically? all that matters is that we're considered productive under capitalism. doesn't matter what severe health issues you continue to stack up

stimulants and wakefulness promoting agents are the first line treatment and they do fucking NOTHING to tackle the sleep cycle issues at night. in fact, they often make insomnia even worse. nobody gives a shit about narcoleptics' physical health as long as they're capable of being productive and "awake" and it's utterly repulsive.

luigi helps after getting captured or after him and bowser start dating, maybe luigi has eczema and that’s why he knows so much about lessening the itching feeling

bowser and his kids like to loaf or sploot when they’re really comfortable or sleepy tired, sometimes luigi will lie down next to/ on their side and relax with them

luigi worked at the casino enough to learn both card and magic tricks and he shows off to anyone interested, including bowser’s army

luigi is incredibly comfortable and casual about wearing skirts and dresses, he could show up to tennis practice in a skirt and no one would bat an eye, it’s one of the things he’s most confident about

what if bowser had a pouch like a kangaroo and junior tagged along on some of his adventures with a switch and a juicebox just chillin in there and occassionally popping his head out to watch the fight

here's a little snippet of a wip i started just... an hour ago lmao.

"I'm leaving the 118." Buck says the words and a sick feeling if deja vu passes through him. "Temporarily," he rushes to add before Eddie can yell at him or Hen can tell him what an idiot he's being, or Chim can make a sarcastic and not at all helpful comment to light up the bad mood surrounding them. "Just for a couple of months." "Buck." Eddie frowns, his lips pursed and an array of emotions swimming in those warm eyes of his that Buck is too tired, too lost to decipher them at that moment. "I've made up my mind, Eddie." Buck cuts him off. "You of all people should understand." "What are you going to do in the meantime? What's the plan, here?" Hen looks at him with so much concern and confusion that it breaks him a little inside. Buck takes a deep breath and then— "I signed up to help with the wildfires happening in Australia. They really could use the help. So… I'm going to help." And this is not a decision he has made lightly. He thought about it for weeks, thought about Dr. Salazar's words and about Maddie's too. Buck is spiraling, pushing everyone away and yeah, he feels so damn alone. And he knows he doesn't need to, he knows everyone is there for him. But they also have their own family units, they have their partners and their own things and Buck is a 30 year old failure that comes home to an empty, pathetic loft every night. He once thought maybe Eddie and him— But no. He just— He needs to leave. For a few months. Take a step back.

I love your posts so much! I’m curious, what do u think would be Laurent and Damen’s thoughts on open relationships, do u think it’s something they would try?

interesting question. i've made it into a joke already in this post and also there are these fantastic tags from @/not-a-coral-snake and it's the best thing ever so true so funny so them.

it's quite evident laurent has no interest in being with anyone other than damen. furthermore we don't see damen being interested in anyone ever again after he has a night with laurent + it makes both of them very jealous when they see or think about the other with someone else. so at least in the universe they're in i doubt they'd be genuinely interested in that kind of relationship. know that if they ever tried it they'd be miserable, and in an easy happy peaceful world they wouldn't even think about it.

unfortunately these people do not live in an easy happy peaceful world. it's inevitable that they at least discuss the possibility. however the only way i could see them having an open relationship agreement is through some sort of misunderstanding of each other's needs.

there's the fact that at least akielos is a culture in which people and esp nobles are expected to have multiple lovers/a harem. laurent goes above and beyond and a bit too much when trying to compensate for something he did (trying to die for damen for example) and i think for a certain period of time he would be respectful of akielon culture to the point of being too much. forcing damen's own culture onto damen himself, kind of thing.

it's likely damen has had open relationships in the past (jokaste anyone). he knows how they work, he grew up knowing it to be a natural thing, he knows that as king he is expected to have a variety of lovers. and likely in any other circumstance he would. he just isn't interested unless laurent is involved. damen hates the idea tbh but he will give laurent what he wants bc he thinks well. maybe laurent wants to explore his sexuality a little more with more people who aren't damen after years of repressing it (he doesn't) and if he is insisting so much then he must have a good reason (objectively he doesn't).

plus, and i think this one is the most likely, laurent knows he's not exactly an easy lover. ppl overestimate the amount of both self-respect and self-confidence laurent has wayyy to often. laurent is canonically insecure about anything sex related and a future-oriented control freak, so he'd try to have control over any affair damen might have if at some point laurent stops being enough by ensuring he will be able to claim that he knew all along, that laurent was the one who allowed it, laurent was in control the whole time. kind of like with th i know who you are damianos thing. i've known all along. i know you'll get tired of how complicated i am eventually i know everything i am prepared for every possible outcome you can't catch me chaos of this world etc etc.

it's not that he can tolerate the idea of damen being w other ppl, it's just that he thinks he has to tolerate it bc 1) he doesn't deserve a say 2) the alternative (damen getting tired, feeling trapped and leaving altogether) is way worse 3) he thinks it will happen eventually anyway and this is the only way he can remain dignified. or so he thinks. lol. this mindset is of course unhealthy. so he should work on that.

Gar and Jason with a Physically Affectionate!Reader

A/N: I was going to do the whole team but I got overwhelmed 🫠 as always I’ll pepper in the fact that I’m brazilian, platonic physical affection is very common here and since it’s not in the US – culturally at least – and these bitches are all emotionally constipated and touch starved, i thought their reactions to casual touches might be ! I also based these headcanons – mostly – on how my friends and I treat each other ! 

This kinda morphed into a different thing altogether as I wrote it but anyways, Im tagging @pinkchubbiebunnie (i was itching to just send you this undone the whole time) and @trice-divergent (you’re literally watching me type this out – creep – but thank you for helping me with the older Titans, I was struggling)

Garfield Logan:

the most physically affectionate out all of the Titans, and even so that’s not saying much -> they’re all a little touch starved

He’s normally the one who offers up hugs when needed, who initiates it 

I feel like only giving/getting hugs when things are bad would condition him a little to only expect that when shitty things are happening 

So he’s very confused — but pleasantly so — when reader just offers physical affection when good things happen and sometimes just because

Ranges from simple almost impersonal stuff like “hey good job at training” hi-fives to really sweet tender moments like holding his hand, caressing his face or cuddling for movie nights or when one — or both — of them can’t sleep

Let's assume you’re not yet in a relationship: he’s so flustered ALL. THE. TIME. Always finds excuses to be near you so you’ll be able to touch him, weather that’d be lightly slapping his arm when you’re talking about something you excited about, booping his nose whenever he looks too serious

For PDA I think Gar actually really likes it, as long as it's tasteful, you know? 

Like holding hands? Yes! Please hold his hand when going out or during movie nights or just whenever ! 

Holding onto his arm and/or leaning on him during team meetings or when waiting in line for something? He always gets so giddy when ppl can see how much you like being near him

Hugging/cuddling/cradling his face —> please do! It calms him down, also just feels nice to both be so casually close and feeling wanted in front of other ppl (like you’re not embarrassed or ashamed of him) 

Jason Todd:

he honestly looks like he’d bite your hand off if you tried to touch him

Is dealing with that weird period of being touch starved -> loathes being touched x craves physical affection

Would for sure say some awful fuck boy shit if you keep touching his arms to get his attention, I cringe just thinking about it (i crave him)

if you’re not dating, whenever a touch is a little too tender and sweet he’d feel the need to compensate or hide how much it made his heart race with some either mean or flirty bullshit 

if you are in a relationship though, i feel like the flirting would get so much worst -> the team hates you – not really – every time another “babe” comes out of his mouth, fake gags can be heard all throughout the Tower

PDA = he’s gross, terrible, disgusting – i must have him –  really doesn't care who is/isn't around will be as touchy as he feels like

definitely gets a habit of slapping your ass, its not even a sexual thing – for the most part – but the first time it happens in one of the common areas the room gets deadly silent →I don't know who’d be more mad about it, you or one of the grown adults who have just been subjected to that

I think she’s always cold – like her hands are always a bit cold – so I also think she’d like holding hands, specially if your hands are more warm then not

tired and sleepy always – her powers seem tiring – so can and will just take a nap on your shoulders whenever, it's pretty impressive actually

he’s just an overgrown toddler, you honor → feel like once you start with the hi-fives or fist bumps, he gets too used to it to stop or question it

Kory Anders: not one to initiate physical contact but that doesn't mean she dislikes it; due to her powers, i assume her skin is always warm -> so if you’re cold – like Rachel – she really doesn't mind holding your hand so you feel better 

Dick Grayson: awkward dad mode engaged; not used to it at all – thanks Bruce, father of the fucking year – but i can see him resorting to those awkward head pats (Jeff to Annie in Community), starts with him not knowing what to do to it kinda becoming his thing 

Hank Hall: definitely the type to give shoulder like taps/slap dad’s do when they are proud of you, completely underestimates his own strength tho → they don't hurt !! but if you're distracted/not expecting you’ll definitely be thrown out of balance a little; other than that I don't see him initiating much, but if you need/ask for a hug he’ll definitely provide !! 

Dawn Granger: mom friend ? Mom friend ! Gives the nicest hugs and somehow always knows when you need one; head pats but they're not awkward like when Dick does it

Donna Troy: I don’t think she’s very touchy ! doesn't mind if you need a hug or something, but she’s definitely not one to initiate or seek it

1. What motivates you to write?

all of my lovely mutuals and anyone who has reached out asking for more information about my works are what motivate me everyday to keep writing. just knowing that someone is interested in what i write is enough to keep me going.

2. A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them).

i might post the rest of this ltr if i feel like it, but for now here’s a lil snippet from 2083:

Genji was sincere in everything he said, his devotion coming from the depths of his soul. He longed to give Akira everything his heart desired, even if it meant giving up all that he worked for. He yearned to provide Akira with a life worth living, a life filled with joy and free from the pains and pressures of the outside world—a life where Akira could truly find happiness.

3. What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)

i’m not too good at writing dialogue, but something that i’ve always thought i was best at is writing scene descriptions—i feel as though with a paragraph or two, i can easily set the mood for the rest of the chapter.

4. What do you enjoy most about the Writeblr community?

i love how sweet and kind everyone in the writeblr community is. when i first started posting about my wips, i remember thinking that no one was going to care, but when people started reaching out, asking questions about my writing and showing interest, i felt a lot more confident in sharing my works. so ty to my moots and everyone else who’s part of the writeblr community:)

5. A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech-to-text, a writing program etc)

some sites i use to help me write are notion and reedsy. they help me organize my ideas so i don’t spend hours getting lost in my thoughts about how a particular chapter or storyline is supposed to progress.

6. A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc).

i really like the class divisions of 2083, especially since it helps build a contrast between Akira’s and Genji’s characters and early in the story.

7. What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch?

at this point in time, i might be the worst person to ask this question since i’ve just been thugging it out for the past month or so, but i think talking to other people, especially another writer, is a good way to get through a rough patch, since they can provide you with words of encouragement or advice for how to progress with your story. or, if you don’t feel like talking to another person, try talking aloud to yourself—that usually helps me catch mistakes and inconsistencies in my storyline or helps me come up with ideas.
