Imo Tubbo and Fit are a very underrated dynamic (lore-wise atleast)

Every time they talked about lore stuff there was sm tension, i miss it so much. Fit wanting to help but not being able to tell the truth vs Tubbo knowing Fit is lying to him and being rightfully suspicious,, AARGH

it’s understandable to see folks saying pre-amnesia harry is a fixed character and your choices in the game can’t change who he was. but it’s also fascinatingly incorrect

when you talk to idiot doom spiral about your tequila sunset escapade, idiot doom spiral tells the story of that night slightly differently depending on what political leanings you’ve chosen, and what “copotype” you’ve adopted

I know it’s a small thing but I noticed it in game and immediately thought “oh it’s cool that the game changes who harry used to be based on how you play him now”

but other people seem really confident that there is only one pre-amnesia harry du bois so 🤔 idk what to make of that. it seems like there is a case for disagreement here

Alright I gotta talk about this one too.

I already went over the changes made from the storyboards of Octavia’s song, I Will Be Okay, to the show proper. Well, there were also storyboards of Octavia’s confrontation with Stolas at the palace.

I made the mistake of not crediting the storyboard artist in my first post—the sequence I’ll be taking about was boarded by Sophia Magallanes Morales, a phenomenal artist who also did I Will Be Okay’s storyboards.

I wanted to talk about Sophia’s storyboards for when Octavia goes no contact with Stolas because they are, in my opinion, leagues better than what was in the actual episode. I think a LOT was lost from the decision to cut parts of her storyboards, and to go over it, because I really think it’s shame.

We can actually see this change in quality within the first few seconds of the final scene in the show as opposed to the boards:

Right after the fight, Stolas runs to Via. He quickly catches up to her as she walks away, and tells her how proud he is of her and pulls her into a hug. We can tell Stolas is concerned about her and eager to get back in touch.

Now let’s look at Sophia’s boards (comparison continues below)

This scene has so, so much more tension and emotional weight to it. We see exactly how desperate Stolas is to get in contact with Octavia, how in this moment he needs to catch up with her, how urgently he needs to let her know how proud he is and how much he loves her.

He runs so fast that he almost stumbles and falls, so fast that once he does finally catch up to her he has to stop for a moment to catch his breath.

And then he pulls her into a tight hug and we actually get to see his joy at reconnecting with her. We see how proud he is of her. He’s so proud that he has a hard time expressing it first, staring with “I—“ and then just starts over telling her how brave she’s been.

These boards also give us Octavia’s reactions. We see her after the fight staring solemnly in her father’s direction, before she slowly turns away. She doesn’t react to Stolas calling out to her, ignoring him. Once Stolas finally catches her though, she turns back to him slowly, and we can see in her reaction that she is definitely dealing with a lot of feelings.

Sophia is excellent at conveying complex emotions through characters expressions. To me, Octavia expression shows her hurt at Stolas’ neglect, her disbelief that he actually came after her, her confusion as to why he suddenly acting like he cares about her now, her fear that he’ll lie to her again. I think it shows us SO MUCH about what she’s feeling in just a few frames, and that is amazing.

Compared to the final episode, I get so much more information about what Stolas and Octavia are feeling in this moment! The boards show their perspectives on what’s just happened, it shows their current states of mind given the events of the episode!

The direction and movement of the boards are also fantastic, I can tell that Octavia feels forlorn and is tired and done with waiting for Stolas to care about her. I can tell that Stolas is prioritizing Octavia above all else in this moment, that he may regret how long it’s taken him to get to her, how overjoyed and relieved he is to hug her again.

Of course these are only MY interpretations, but regardless there is so much more expression and emotional tension in the boards, as opposed to the final episode where Stolas catches up to Octavia quickly and immediately hugs her while saying he’s proud of her.

In both versions this scene is only a few seconds, but the boards just have so much more depth and in my opinion make for a much, much more impactful scene.

I have NO idea why they chose to cut these storyboards so the way they did. The only reasons that make sense to me would be due to time and budget, and if so it really sucks that we had to lose such a powerful scene.

I think I’ll be making more posts comparing this scene’s storyboards to the final episode because Spindlehorse cut so much of Sophia’s boards, and it not only makes me sad, but also makes me wonder what other emotionally engaging Helluva Boss scenes we’ve lost.

It’s just a real shame.

Again, I’m not saying the final animated episode looks bad. The animation is still stellar! The animators did a great job! I just think it’s a waste to have cut so much out of these scenes.

Some thoughts on Inner Demons

So i have been thinking about this and i do actually like the idea that Lucanis can't have Rook exist in his mind prison because it fucks up his entire inner narrative of basically just self flagellation. "If rook exists then at some point i have to get out" so just delete rook from the scenario. I think that's really good.

However, i think it would've been better if a part of Lucanis actually was trying to get out, at least involuntarily, and that Rook was the personification of that idea, constantly trying to break himself out but ultimately failing. So ''Rook'' exists somewhere in there but is heavily suppressed. That's why Spite seeks real life Rook out. Not to mention that even if not romanced Rook is pretty much the closest person he has at that point, his only other true friend he's had beside Illario so it makes even more sense for them to be this comforting idea he just can't accept fully.

So you see glimpses of Rook, the sound of their voice, or maybe more notes about them, especially if you are romancing him it seems like a big waste of an opportunity to not utilize Rook for a bigger showing of his inner struggle and fear to try and live some kind of life.

The Neve thing is a bit weird when romancing him, i do understand this complaint and the way Spite phrases it does come off as romantic interest specific to her. I think Neve should absolutely stay as both her and Lucanis seem like good friends regardless of romance but it would've been been better (if the player is romancing Lucanis) for Neve to maybe use Lucanis' feelings for Rook against them here. Implying guilt about Rook, leading them on etc. rather than make it specifically about Neve.

There are plenty of little things like this that would make the quest a bit more impactful overall because this is a pretty short quest for something that is essentially meant to be a psychological deep dive into Lucanis. Just more notes and those reworked Neve lines would make it more way more immersive to the player.

In my opinion this should've been a way bigger and more important part of his personal quest, i think they should've really leaned into the whole ''fighting to get him out of his own head'' idea. Adding things like Lucanis' actual memories of Caterina as the abuser she was and moments of genuine brotherly love Lucanis has for Illario. It would've also made up for the fact that you don't learn anything very personal about him the entire game.

Listen, I have whole rewrites to how his personal quest should've gone, it's really my roman empire at this point. This quest is such a good way for Rook to get real vulnerability from him that wouldn't've shown up in real life due to his introverted and closed off nature.

Again my conclusion of Lucanis being a very scraped up character continues as i find my ideas to be pretty easy to come up with implementations for the kind of thing they are trying to pull of in this specific mission.

But oh well, so it goes. Kind of got rambly for a minute there, thank you kindly for reading :P

neither of them feature both Godai and Ichijou, but, espeically put together, they’re two of my fave goichi moments… I have so much I could say about them, that I don’t even know where I’d begin

thinkin’ about Darry and Soda

(not my usual stuff, but they’re on my mind I guess)

d’you think that before their parents died, Soda was scared of Darry going off to college and leaving him behind? Of Darry growing up and not coming back? I can’t speak from experience here, being the oldest of my siblings, but my little sister tells me that she’s sad and scared about me going to college and all the changes that’ll come with it…I bet Soda felt like that for a while, y’know? I bet he hated the thought of Darry growing up too fast and getting out of Tulsa. Of his older brother not being around anymore.

But then after Mr. and Mrs. Curtis passed, Soda realized that Darry being forced to grow up for real hurt so much more than the fear of Darry just leaving for college…That he wishes Darry could leave, because seeing Darry working as hard as he does is so much worse…

(Or hell, maybe a guilty, selfish part of Soda is glad Darry can’t leave just yet. Idk, there’s definitely some interesting depth you could explore there if ya wanted to)

god, I dunno. poor Darry. I don’t think I’d ever have it in me to do what he did, honestly. I don’t think about him much, but maybe that’s because it makes me uncomfortable how scary and depressing his circumstances are whenever I think about it too hard…

So I've heard a few takes on the HC that Adam didn't eat the Apple and what that Means for his Morality etc. I Do HC that he Didn't eat the Apple, so these are just my thoughts on that.

So the main two points are: Adam does not understand the meaning of Good and Evil And Adam does not have Free Will. And I believe that this just means that he may not experience these things the same as others but that over the eons he has developed a different sense of them.

When we talk about Good and Evil here, I think we mostly agree that we mean that in an Objective Sense. Charity and Kindness are Acts of Good, Theft and Cruelty are Acts of Bad. That sort of thing. And if Adam doesn't have a sense of that, what does he have instead for his morality compass? Well... The Subjective feelings of Like/Love, Dislike/Hate are easy enough to understand. Adam isn't devoid of opinions and experiences. So his Morality Scale is more based on the things he Likes must be Good and the things he Dislikes must be Bad. And he has a really hard time with Areas of Grey because of this. Also he absolutely follows the lead of those around him, especially his superiors. If Sera or the Elder Angels say that something is Bad, he will believe its Bad unless its something he Likes (like the so-called Devil's Music that he loves so much) and then he makes his moral judgements based off that.

Now about Free Will. Not having Free Will doesn't mean he is devoid of the ability to choose things for himself or make changes. Instead it means that many of the choices he Does make are heavily guided by the influence of those with power over him and the changes he undergoes are influenced and dictated by others. He blindly does what he's told with little to no push back and in return, when he isn't given consequences or even Told when he's done something wrong, he will not register it as being something Wrong. He doesn't inherently understand Good and Evil/Right and Wrong, so he did the things he was told to do in the way he wanted to do it and without being directed otherwise, he cannot see the negative in the things he's done.
