Co-Stars pt.2
Callum Turner X Actress! Reader
Summary: All the time Callum and Y/n were together in a movie.
Warning: Allusion to sex/ swearing/ kissing/ mention of being naked
Word count: 1.1k
A/n: The movies I selected are not starring Callum (except the only boy living in New York), and the other movies do not have the same actress, so use ✨️imagination✨️
Tumblr media
The first time they were in a movie together was in The Only Boy Living in New York, she was playing Tomas’s best friend, and they needed to kiss multiple times. They had chemistry. That was one of the first things the directors told them. It was said in multiple interviews. After the movie came out, they stayed friends, talking to the other, telling each other what they were in. When they got cast in another movie together, as love interest, they were over the moon. Y/n had got the first role, and Callum got the sexy bartender role. The movie was called Burlesque, Y/n had to sing, and Callum thought she was amazing. The interviews that followed the movie were filled with teasing and flirting.
-
‘’Now, you guys already played love interest in the only boy living in New York, what was your reaction when you learned that you got to do that again?’’ the reporter asked. ‘’For me, I laughed. I was happy that it was him. This movie took me out of my comfort zone and to know that my co-star is one of my best friends was really soothing and yeah, and he’s good looking, so I couldn’t complain’’ she joked. Callum laughed. ‘’It was really fun, she was amazing, her singing was amazing. But yeah, we come as a package now, you want me, you get Y/n’’ he said, laughing. ‘’2 for the price of 1’’ she added to the joke.
-
The first time she was cast in something that Callum wasn’t in was in the remake of Footloose, she played Ariel. She was confident for this role, but without Callum, it was going to be weird. But the director had a surprise for her.
-
‘’Uh, sorry why does it say Callum beside the name of Bobby?’’ she asked. Bobby was supposed to be Ariel’s dead brother, but it had flash back scenes. As she said that, Callum entered the room. ‘’Holy shit!’’ she screamed in joy as she got off her chair to run in his arms. ‘’You two come as a package, I couldn’t separate you guys’’ the director said, laughing. ‘’It’s not a lot of scenes, but I thought this might be fun’’ he added. ‘’Thank you so much’’ Y/n chuckled.
-
Then, Callum and Y/n were cast as voice actors for a movie. The movie was Inside out, Y/n played Disgust and Callum played Fear. They had fun doing their voices, it was something new for the both of them. But the real surprise was when they both got cast in Master of the Air.
-
‘’Now, guys, ready to meet Callum’s love interest?’’ Tom Hanks asked the actors. They nodded and Y/n entered the room. At first, she was confused, but when she saw Callum, she started to laugh. ‘’No fucking way!’’ she laughed. ‘’The pair strikes again!’’ Austin Butler says, laughing. ‘’Who’s the pair?’’ Anthony Boyle asks. ‘’Them, they’re like the new Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter’’ Bary says. Y/n walked up to Callum to hug him, they were both giggling and blushing. ‘’We’re happy to say, that the cast is now complete! Welcome to the madness, Y/n’’ Steven Spielberg said. When they were shooting their scene, it was always amazing. They almost never had to do more than five takes. The only time they had to do more than five takes was their love scene.
-
‘’Action!’’ yelled the director. She was in a white dress, so when she would step underwater, it would become transparent. ‘’Rose, what are you doing here?’’ Callum said, in an American accent. Her turned around to look at her, he was in the shower. She entered the shower, still maintaining eye contact. ‘’John, I can’t keep acting like ahhhh’’ she yelled as she slipped in the shower, almost falling, but Callum catches her before she fell on the ground. They both started to laugh as the director yelled cut. ‘’Y/n are you okay?’’ She nodded as they continued laughing. ‘’Yeah, I’m okay, I’m sorry!’’ she said, calming down. They calmed down and put themselves in their characters again. It was their fifth take, they had to get it right. ‘’Action’’ They redid the scene they did before Y/n almost fell. Now, she was in the shower, soaking wet. In a now completely transparent dress. ‘’Are you going to kiss me, Major?’’ she said, with a flirting voice. ‘’I’m going to do more than kiss you’’ Callum said, with the American accent. Y/n slightly opened her mouth, but it was enough for a drop of water to go straight in her throat, making her chock on it. She started to cough really hard. ‘’I’m (cough) so sorry (cough)’’ she apologized. She felt bad for ruining the scene, but she was literally choking on water. ‘’Do we need a medic?’’ Tom Hanks asked. Callum started to gently tap her back, to help her cough. ‘’She’s still breathing, she might need a minute’’ he said. ‘’I’m (cough) choking on water (cough) it’s ridiculous. (cough)’’ she said. ‘’Stop talking, try to get the water out’’ Callum laughed.
-
The bloopers of Master of the Air got out and the moment where Y/n chocked made people laugh. So, when the were interviewed, people wanted to know more about it and what happened.
-
‘’Julie wanted to know, what was the hardest scene to shoot?’’ Josh asked. The cast started to laugh. ‘’For me, it was the shower sex scene. I mean, people have seen the bloopers. And the take before that I almost fell because it was slippery. And before Callum kissed me, I started to choke on water. So, I was like’’ she got up her chair, putted her hands on her knees, like she was out of breath. ‘’I’m okay (fake cough). I’m sorry (fake cough) I’m okay (fake cough). And Callum was tapping my back like: No she’s not!’’ she said with a fake British accent at the end. Callum started laughing even more, and so did Anthony Boyle. ‘’I was watching them, and Tom Hanks said to me: Do you really think she’ll survive this?’’ he laughed. Y/n came back in her seat and laughed more. ‘’We never had a boring day on set with those two. It was always fun’’ Austin said. ‘’At first, when she started choking, I thought, is it my fault? But when she said she was choking on water, I started to laugh, but I didn’t want to because she was coughing and it was serious, but she was so funny’’ Callum said. ‘’And I was almost naked! Cause I was wearing a white blouse that was supposed to become transparent, so I was coughing and trying to hide my tits. It was a really funny day on set’’ she added. The crowd was laughing and screaming. ‘’And you specify the place of the sex scene, is it that you guys have multiple sex scenes?’’ Josh asked. Callum and Y/n looked at each other, and they laughed. ‘’Well, maybe we don’t want to spoil the fans!’’ Callum exclaimed. Y/n hid her head in her hands and laughed again. Then she brought the mic next to her mouth. ‘’We saw in the trailer that we had, I think we have in total like 5 sex scenes’’ she admitted. The fans yelled and expressed their happiness. ‘’Next’’ Y/n said, red as a tomato.

𝑈𝑛𝑠𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑝𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒 || Austin Butler
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• Summary : Austin and you have been close friends since you were teenagers. However, you have never worked together as actors, and certainly not in a movie where you are a couple.
• Pairing : Austin Butler x Priscilla actress! reader
• Warnings : first kiss, confessing love, overall fluff
• Note : I hope this is not overrated, but I just had to write Austin x actress reader and especially one where you (reader) are playing Priscilla and him being Elvis 😩
You and Austin have known each other for many years. You've been friends since you were teenagers, but never in your wildest dreams would you two have imagined playing Elvis and Priscilla together.
But there it is, and here you are. On the set of Elvis. You and Austin. From the first moments when you started working on the film and started spending more time together, you couldn't help it but catch feelings for him.
But you were afraid that Austin didn't have it that way. Or maybe he has? Probably not. You were just in backstage watching Austin give a breathtaking performance as Elvis. It was almost impossible how flawlessly he could imitate him. The voice, the singing, the look... The hair....
"Y/n...? Earth is calling Y/n." you heard a familiar voice in your thoughts. And in fact, that voice brought you back to reality. Looking up slightly you saw Tom Hanks in his Colonel Parker costume. "Oh, Tom! Hi-" you said as soon as you were brought back.
"Hello there. I see you're amazed just as I am." he said, sitting beside you. "Yeah," you smiled. "He's really incredible. He sounds exactly like him." you complimented your colleague, and heard Baz yell 'Cut!'.
"Right... What's up between you two, anyway?" The question almost took your breath away. You looked at Tom, frozen, taken aback. "Uhm... What do you mean?"
"Well, I can't unsee the way you two are together, you know." Tom spent a lot of time with the two of you, but is it this obvious to everyone that you're completely into him? "You like him, don't you?" he suddenly added.
"Am I that noticeable? How do you know?” you asked nervously. "Y/n, I know what two people in love look like. Maybe it's the way you two look at each other, how you treat each other." Tom was right. In past few months, you have been treating him and he was treating you with such a much more intimacy or connection.
"Yeah, well... I do like him, but I'm afraid. What if it's not both sided?" Tom straightened his position, smiling at you in such a warm way. "I wouldn't be afraid of that," he said suddenly. "If only you knew how he talks about you when you're not around, you'd be surprised."
You looked at Tom, speechless. Austin talking about you? "How?" you were so curious. "Very sweetly, Y/n. I've never seen someone speak so nicely about a woman like he does about you. And it's true what he said, by the way."
Just as soon as Tom said this you looked at Austin who was looking at you. As soon as you made eye contact, Austin smiled - just like he always does when he sees you. "Young love..." Tom added, patting your shoulder as he stood up.
"Don't worry, tell him. Trust me you won't lose anything, quite the opposite.” he winked at you and walked away as Baz decided to call it a day with filming. Austin was still discussing something with the crew, and you were heading to the costume trailer to take off your outfit.
LATER THAT NIGHT...
You kept thinking about Tom's words. Is it really what he says? Austin talks this nice about you? Thoughts were flowing through your head more than ever. You left the costume trailer. Outside was already dark as the late evening air hit you. On your way to your trailer, you suddenly bumped into Austin.
"Y/n, h-hi!" Austin said. You could say you almost blushed the moment you realized it's him. "Hey Aus," you replied, your voice kinda trembling. His eyes were bright even in the street lights, water was dripping from his wet, currently black, hair, probably fresh from the shower. There was a moment of awkward silence as you noticed that Austin was carrying some boxes.
"Oh, um.. I may or may have not accidentally ordered two boxes of Chinese food, and I thought if you don't want to join me?" Your heart started to race. This never happened to you around him, but now, after what you've been told, it's different.
"I would love to." you smiled, and Austin and you headed to his trailer. Is it normal to be this nervous around your best friend? "So how was your day?" Austin asked, placing the food on the table as you sat down. "Mhm, well, demanding? Great?" you smiled.
"So nothin' new, huh?" Austin laughed. Gosh, you love him. "Actually, I saw you were watching while I did the singing scene, how did i do?" he asked, handing you the fork for your food. "You did damn well, Aus. You sound exactly like him."
Austin looked at you with warm smile, happy about your compliment. You guys started eating the food, talking about your day, about the film and everything else possible.
The conversation has slowed down, and there’s this silence, one that’s comfortable but filled with something unspoken. You feel your heart racing a little as Austin glances over at you, his gaze soft and thoughtful.
"Um, Y/n, you know," he began. The words were slipping out of his mouth, one by one, his voice soft yet deep. "I- There is something I have to talk about. Or maybe more, I have to tell you something." Here, you heart stopped. What's going on?
"Mhm?" you murmured to break the silence. "R-right," Austin took a deep breath. "I’ve been wanting to say this for so long, but I didn’t know how. I didn’t want to risk messing this up or losing you..." Whatever he wanted to say, you didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Lose? Lose how? You feel your pulse quicken, sensing the weight in his words.
“Y/n, I’ve been in love with you since day one,” he continues, his gaze locking onto yours, vulnerable and open in a way you’ve never seen before. “Every moment with you, every smile, every little thing you do... it just made me fall deeper. I tried to keep it to myself, but being this close to you now, I can’t hide it anymore. I don’t want to hide it.”
He loves you? Did you hear that right? Did Austin, the boy you knew since you were 13, just said he loves you back? Your heart felt like it's going to jump out of your chest. He likes you, too.
In shock, you lost almost all the words that exist. You didn't know what to say, although you yourself knew very well what to answer. "Sorry if I threw it on you too quickly, I -"
"No," you breathed out in nervous laugh. "No, Austin, don't be sorry. I love you, too. I am completely in love with you more than words can explain. I feel the same, Aus.” you smiled.
After a few seconds, he reached over, tucking a stray piece of hair behind your ear, his fingertips brushing your skin gently. He let out a small, almost nervous laugh, his eyes flickering away for just a second before coming back to meet yours, more serious now.
“I’ve wanted to do this for years,” he said, his voice low. There’s a warmth in his gaze that made everything around you seem to fade. He leaned in slowly, giving you a chance to close the space between you, or to pull away if you want. But you didn’t pull away.
When Austin's lips touched yours, it was soft and tentative at first, almost as if he was savoring the moment as much as you were. But then, he deepened the kiss, his hand gently resting against your cheek as he draws you closer. The world felt like it stopped spinning, with only the warmth of his kiss and the feeling of his heart beating close to yours.
When you managed to break the kiss, he pressed his forehead against yours. Your heart was still racing, but now in much more pure way, almost as if the soft feelings grew stronger. The silence and sweet moment is broke by your phone ringing with message. "That's Tom," you say, opening the message.
Tom
He didn't order that food by mistake, but on purpose, I told him to do so. I knew I could make you date!
Both, Austin and you laughed. So actually Tom knew all along that you secretly loved each other and wanted to do everything to put you together. And well, he succeeded.

One day I watched a bit of Forrest Gump and noticed Forrest had a similar personality to a gainer I dated many years ago, so I decided to write a little vore story reminiscent about that kind of connection.
Life is Like a Box of Donuts (Tom and Hank’s story)
Tom had always been more of a passive personality, or perhaps simply agreeable. Folks would offer to buy him dinner and he wouldn’t refuse, especially to those friendly feeders who admired his big belly. A stranger might ask to be his best friend and the next day they’d be playing catch together in the park. Just the other day, someone rudely called out “Why don’t you go eat another donut, pal!” to Tom. Always one to take things literally, Tom welcomed the idea, and went down to his favorite bakery and purchased a dozen donuts to bring home.
On the day our story began, Tom was visited by his close friend, Hank. Tom always considered Hank a very special friend, and always tried to bring a smile to his face. They made lunch together, as they often did, and Hank noticed the logo on the closed donut box and remarked “Ooh did you visit that bakery down the street from the park? They have the best coconut donuts I’ve ever had the privilege to taste!,”
“I got some for you, Hank,” Tom remarked, motioning to the box. Hank smiled, whispered a little note of gratitude and looked inside. There were six coconut donuts, and five sour cream donuts, which happened to be Tom’s favorite. “I wanted to wait till you visited, but I was too tempted, so I already ate one,” Tom explained.
“This is incredibly sweet, Tom, I don’t understand why anyone would be so nice to me like you are,” Hank replied.
“I want you to be happy, Hank,” Tom continued.
“I am happy! I’m happy I’m with my best friend,” Hank leaned over and gently patted Tom’s rather large belly, “And he got me some donuts!”
“I know you sometimes like to feed me donuts, Hank, so I got lots of extra in case you did. I like when you rub my belly,” Tom replied, as they ate their lunch, glancing over at the donuts to be had soon.
Hank got up and folded a sour cream donut in a napkin and brought it over to Tom, then got a coconut one for himself.
“Sometimes I get jealous when I eat food as good as this. Jealous of how tasty food can be. Jealous, knowing how passionately someone can hunger for something this tasty, and wishing someone desired me even as much,” he said.
They sat in silence for a bit. They did this often. Tom always said he liked just sitting with someone he cared about, not needing to say anything, just simply caring. But he did have one thought he wanted to share.
“Hank, I like you more than this donut,” Tom acknowledged, “wish I could eat you up and keep you safe from all your sad thoughts, but I wouldn’t want you to miss out on finishing the coconut ones.”
Hank smiled and laughed a little bit, and replied “Maybe if I were in your belly, you could swallow coconut donuts whole for me to have in there.” He got up to get Tom another sour cream donut. Instead of taking the donut directly out of Hank’s hand, Tom took Hank’s arm and guided it to drop the donut into his mouth. Tom held Hank’s arm there, finishing the donut and sucking the crumbs off of Hank’s hand, and holding it there for a moment. He motioned for Hank to get another one, releasing his hand and repeating the process a few more times.
By the final sour cream donut, Tom had Hank’s entire hand engulfed in his mouth, and tried to mumble something. Hank laughed and pulled his hand out for Tom to say, “Looks like no more of my favorite donuts, but I still have my favorite person right here looking tasty.”
“You wanna eat me?” Hank smiled at Tom. Tom pulled Hank forward, having him straddle his lap, or as much as he could, since Tom’s rather large belly didn’t leave much room for a lap to straddle. Hank was looking down at Tom’s belly, pressing against his. Tom put his finger under Hank’s chin and guided their gazes to meet each other. Tom gave a slow nod, and raised his eyebrows slightly.
“I want you to feel as happy as all that food you’ve been jealous of.” Tom took both of Hank’s hands in his own and guided them into his mouth. Tom gave a first swallow and felt Hank’s wrists relax and slide into his esophagus. Hank gave a little smile of surprise and contentment, as his arms began to clasp tightly together, steadily sliding deeper inside of Tom. Tom slowed down to look at Hank’s face again, questioning whether to continue.
“If you don’t like what you taste I won’t be offended, but if I taste better than a sour cream donut, don’t hesitate, bud!” Hank smiled and took a breath. Tom put his hands on Hank’s hips and lifted him off of the ground, pulling his head into his maw and tasting the coconut crumbs in Hank’s beard. Tom leaned his head back a bit, to help gravity pull Hank’s broad shoulders into his mouth. Hank felt his fingers poke into Tom’s stomach, and he could feel the mixture of donuts and lunch about to break his landing. As Tom’s tongue glided across Hank’s nipples, Hank felt a surge of tingling and arousal, relaxing his back and stomach enough to easily slide into Tom’s hungry mouth. Tom relaxed his own abdomen, as his belly ballooned out with impressive volume as Hank’s entire head and torso became encased inside. Tom pushed Hank’s legs up into the air, and as Hank reflexively held them up high, Tom’s hands were free to touch and rub his belly, feeling Hank’s hands push against the other side. Tom wanted to take it slow to let Hank really enjoy and fully experience the feeling of becoming a donut, but Tom was running out of oxygen and needed his throat open soon. So with a large swallow, the help of gravity, and peristalsis of course, he pulled Hank’s legs in all the way to his feet. Hank swayed and curled around his body to better fit inside. Tom took his fingers and tickled the bottom of Hank’s feet, causing him to reflexively pull his feet away, swiftly finishing off the massive swallow as Hank’s entire body, head to toe, was curled up like a ring, or perhaps a donut, inside Tom’s now gargantuan belly.
Tom drew a massive breath, and exhaled “You sure are a big donut, Hank.”
“A big, and very happy, donut,” Hank replied, wiggling around inside Tom to make him giggle. “Hey now you can swallow those coconut donuts for me to eat!”
Tom, rubbing his incredibly distended belly, and groaning in mild discomfort replied “I don’t know if I should eat much more, I reckon my belly is the fullest it has ever been.”
“You got to eat a donut, now I want a donut! Doesn’t the human donut get a donut?” Hank replied, poking Tom’s belly.
“Oh, alright, just ‘cause I like you,” Tom replied, trying to stand up to grab the box of donuts, and immediately plummeting right back down into his chair, pulled down by his doubled weight, jostling Hank all around inside his belly.
“On the count of three I want you to lean hard to my left,” Tom began, knowing that if he could only just extend his reach a couple feet he might be able to grab the box before being pulled back down onto his chair by his big belly, “One, two…”
On the third count Hank tried to push sideways, and by some miracle it worked, Tom grasped the box by the corner before being pulled back down. He plopped the box onto the top of his belly, and slowly swallowed each of the remaining donuts, smiling as he did, knowing his best friend was happily enjoying the donuts as well, and enjoying feeling so wanted like all the food he loved.
“I should have eaten you way back when, when you mentioned liking this kinda thing,” Tom spoke, his eyes drooping in contentment.
Hank, finishing off his last donut and getting comfortable as Tom's stomach walls kneaded his body, replied “We don’t need to live in the past. I am happy right here, in this moment, and nothing but this joy and contentment matters more than right here, right now, as a donut.”
“Life is like a box of donuts; it may not last too long, but it sure can be incredibly tasty if you savor the good stuff that’s inside.”

Ironstrange but make it from the movie 'Splash' (With Stephen as Tom Hank's character Allen Bauer and Tony as Madison?)
I am in love with my mermaid boy now.
Stephen stepped out to the deck of the yacht, closing his eyes and inhaling the fresh, crisp air of the sea.
Exhaling the breath, he stepped closer to the ledge, resting his hands over the metallic railing that looked out at an endless expanse of water under a night sky adorned with a thousand stars that glimmered like jewels, the soothing acoustic of waves crashing over each other and against their yacht being the only audible sound.
It was a breath of fresh air — literally — compared to the bustling, crowded city of New York, where you’d spot a twinkling star or two only on the luckiest of nights, where the air always smelled stale and noise followed you wherever you went.
Stephen didn’t really do ‘vacations’, never had time for such indulgences, what with giving utmost priority to his career as a doctor. But Donna had wanted this, had wanted to escape their busy life at the city without being reminded of any of the ache and associations to their past. And so Stephen had rented this yacht and hired a crew for a week, just for the two of them.
As he closed his eyes and relaxed against the railing, feeling the cool air melt away all the tension from his shoulders, he thought that maybe it wasn’t too bad to take a vacation every once in a while.
There was a barely audible, yet distinct sound of a splash in the water, prompting Stephen to open his eyes and look down at the source.
He frowned when his eyes caught.. something shiny right below the surface of the dark water for a second, but it immediately disappeared into the depths, the darkness of night only hindering his sight further.
Stephen scanned his eyes over the waters, wondering if he could manage to spot whatever it was again. He knew that this place was a hotspot for dolphins, but dolphins never traveled alone, so it couldn’t be that. Unless it was a lonely dolphin, which might indicate that it was hurt or lost.
And then he spotted it again — further towards the back of the yacht, the very end of a fin flicked through the water, flirting with the surface but not quite revealing itself.
A shiny, golden fin.
He was sure that it was golden. It had to be.
But it didn’t make sense. No fishes or mammals of that size were supposed to have such a golden, shiny fin. At least as far as Stephen knew, and he knew a lot.
What he’d just seen.. it was unnatural.
Wanting to catch another glimpse of the thing, Stephen walked down the deck towards the back of the yacht, eyes vigilantly scanning through the waters, wanting to see that creature, wanting to know what it was.
It was hard. Mostly all he could see was the darkness of water, the crests of waves reflecting back the light sources from their yacht. He strained his eyes, trying to peer inside the water.
And — there it was, the shadow of a large creature under the water, just barely visible with the water already being so dark. It lingered there, never peeking even an inch out of the surface, and Stephen found himself drawn to it, wishing that it surfaced, wanting to see more, and his steps continued along the railing by themself, then down the stairs of the stern, moving right along the unprotected edge of the swimming platform as he chased after the thing, never lifting his eyes from it. And then—
When he finally realized how far he had walked off, one of his feet was no longer on the yacht’s platform.
He yelped in surprise as he tried to bring his footing back to the platform, overbalanced, and fell sideways into water.
An ice-cold spasm of pain shot up his side which had hit the water, the teeth-clattering cold sensation immediately spreading to his entire body as he got surrounded by water. Only practice prevented him from trying to breathe and hence accidentally filling up his lungs with water. You need to get out, a small rational part of his mind managed to command him while the rest of him still struggled to overcome the shock of being suddenly drenched in cold water at night.
But.. where is surface?
His heart fell to his stomach, suddenly feeling like all of his remaining oxygen had been sucked out as he frantically looked around and realized, all he saw was darkness.
No, don’t panic. This was fine, he would reorient his sense of gravity in just a second and then he’d find his way back up.
Except, the water moved in uncoordinated waves, crashing into him, pushing and pulling him in all directions.
He couldn’t tell which way was up.
Panic surged through him as he tried to determine which way he was supposed to go, feeling his heart quicken with each moment that he stayed under the surface, hyper aware of how it drained his oxygen just that much faster.
He couldn’t. He needed to breathe. Reflex forced his lungs to suck in a breath, coughing when all that entered his mouth was water.
No. No!
Basic survival instincts kicked in, causing him to flail his limbs as he tried to reach the surface, still having no idea which was the right way.
He needed to get out. He needed to get back to Donna. He couldn’t die, not here, not like this.
He needed to.. get out..
As he fought the pull of unconsciousness, the last thing he saw was the shadow of a vaguely human body, and a beautiful, long tail that shone red and gold.
When Stephen came to, the first thing he registered was an unfamiliar voice talking away in the background.
“..m sure he’ll be fine, I mean he’s breathing alright.”
Stephen blearily blinked his eyes open, realizing his back was lying on a bed of wet sand. He turned to his side and immediately coughed, throwing up some sea water.
“Yeah. Oh look, now he’s awake too.”
Stephen heaved a couple of breaths as his mind came back online. A shiver came over his entire body. It was very cold, and he was very wet. He frowned, recalling that he’d slipped off the yacht in the dumbest way possible.
‘World-renowned neurosurgeon slipped off his vacation yacht and drowned.’
Yeah, that would’ve been the most embarrassing way to die.
He craned his neck, looking up at the source of the voice to see who was his savior—
And immediately choked at the sight of a buck naked man, sitting there on the sand completely unabashed, Stephen’s phone at his ear as he talked to someone.
The man only raised an eyebrow at Stephen. “You good there?”
Stephen quickly looked away, eyes instead looking to the sea. “Y-yes, I’m fine.”
“Stephen?” The voice on the phone spoke, loud enough for Stephen to hear and perk up at the voice of his sister.
“Donna—” he sat up, turning towards the man again, before remembering, ah. He looked away again, feeling his face heat up despite the rush of cold air against his damp skin making him shiver.
His unnamed savior, thankfully, passed him the phone, which he took without turning back to the man.
“What the fuck, Stephen! Just what in the world were you doing!?”
Stephen winced. “I.. slipped.” The excuse sounded incredibly lame in his tongue.
But between that and saying I was so distracted by some imaginary sea creature that I didn’t see where I was walking, that was probably the less humiliating thing to say.
“You.. slipped.”
“Yes..”
There was silence and then a tired, exasperated sigh. “Christ, Stephen, I was terrified when we couldn’t find you in the water.”
Stephen felt a pang in his heart, imagining what she must have felt thinking that she was about to lose her last remaining family. “I’m sorry. I’m fine, sis.”
“You better stay that way. And don’t you dare move your ass from that island, we’re on our way.”
Stephen blinked, realizing for the first time that he was in some island. He twisted his neck to look around — carefully avoiding looking at the unnamed man who was still sitting near him wearing nothing, for some reason — and found that the island was small, perfect for private resorts and the like, but it was entirely abandoned with nothing but greenery visible in the tiny expanse.
“I’ll wait,” Stephen told her, turning his gaze back to the ocean in front of him.
They ended the call.
“Well, it was nice meeting you, stranger,” his unnamed savior spoke, and from the shuffling sound of skin and sand, Stephen could tell without looking that he had stood up.
He sighed. “Could you put on some clothes?”
The sound of sand shifting under feet echoed, and oh god no.
The mystery man came to deliberately stand in Stephen’s field of view, and Stephen closed his eyes with a stifled sigh. “What, you embarrassed of my naturism, Doc? I thought you guys saw naked humans all the time in your hospitals.”
Stephen looked away, opening his eyes to look out at the other dark horizon. There was no point arguing with a naked man, even less so when the said naked man had saved his life. Somehow.
“Do I at least get a name?” He instead asked the man.
He could practically hear the other man smirking. “Sure.. if you can work up the courage to look me in the eyes for longer than a second.”
Stephen suppressed a growl. It was just a bait, he shouldn’t fall for it.
“Fine then. Thank you, unnamed person who likes to walk naked in beaches, for saving my life.”
The man laughed then, a delighted, amused sound. Somehow, it sounded like a melody to Stephen’s ears, his voice simply so rich and lively, like it was made to spread joy. “You couldn’t have sounded more unthankful, dragging the words out of your throat like that, Doc.”
Too focused on the mystery man’s voice, Stephen didn’t realize when a decent-sized wave crashed into the beach, sweeping over half his body in the process. He grunted at the sensation of more water washing over his already hypothermic body.
“Ah, shit,” the man murmured, prompting Stephen to look his way and—
Stephen’s breath hitched, his heart coming to a halt for a second at the sight in front of him.
The man was down on the sand now; where his legs had been, now there existed a long, slick tail, gold scaled gleaming beautifully under the moonlight, interspersed with patterns of red and fins of indescribable elegance.
Stephen could only watch slack-jawed as the tail moved, its motion as smooth and natural as any other sea creature with fins.
For the first time, Stephen looked straight at the man’s — the creature’s — eyes, and found then to be a beautiful, warm brown, with such a depth that Stephen thought that he could be lost in them.
He was a creature of ethereal, otherworldly beauty.
“You..” Stephen whispered, finding his voice once again. “I saw you, at the deck.”
His eyes grew guarded at that, the warmth of the browns suddenly vanishing. He turned away from Stephen, towards the ocean, and flicked his tail, sending himself towards the retreating waves.
“No.. wait!” Stephen called out, but he gave no indication of hearing Stephen’s call.
Within a second, the brilliant shine of the gold scales disappeared into the depths of the water.
Stephen stood on the beach all alone, wide eyes fixated on the spot where he had seen the last shine of a golden fin.

Don't Make A Shadow Of Yourself (BuckTommy fic) - 8/12)
Summary: "A man who's pure of heart...may still become a wolf when the autumn moon is bright" - Howl (F+TM)
BuckTommy Werewolf AU. Throughout most of his adult life, Tommy had dealt with what he was. The duality of being a man and also an animal…a beast. Werewolves weren’t born, they were made.

Chapter Eight
Days later, Tommy was still a little dazed by his date with Evan. After dinner, they went to the movies. They’d wound up at one of those theaters that showed both the new releases and then older stuff. Tommy hadn’t looked up what was playing before the date, figuring that Evan could make the choice. So, when Tommy spotted You’ve Got Mail as an option, he almost let himself be disappointed that they probably wouldn’t be watching that, but then that was what Evan got them tickets for without even saying anything to him.
“What?” Evan asked while they stood in line for popcorn.
“I just — why did you pick that movie?”
“Tom Hanks,” Evan said. “Well, and you told me you like romcoms. Not to mention it starts in fifteen minutes.”
Tommy could have kissed him, especially because he’d noticed that three other movies were also starting around the same time. One of the Lord of the Rings movies, Inception, and a Marvel movie. Any of those would have been easy picks for Evan, but he’d gone with the romantic comedy all because of Tommy.
Evan was just amazing and Tommy was replaying the way the date ended pretty much all the time in his head because it had ended with one of the best kisses that Tommy had ever had. Evan had just gone for it, his enthusiasm taking over and making the kiss just on the side of rough and deep and like Evan was making his best effort to devour Tommy entirely. To leave his mark behind. Tommy couldn’t wait to kiss him again. To see him again.
If he’d thought that they texted constantly before, it increased after their date.
Evan texted him all throughout his day out with his sister at the florist complete with pictures of the flowers they were considering. Evan texted him on his downtime on shift. Thoughts about a podcast episode that Tommy had told him to listen to, random facts that almost came out of nowhere. They didn’t talk about their date or the kisses they had shared so far, but Evan was flirty even over text and Tommy couldn’t help but flirt back.
It was almost a whole week before Tommy got to see him again, but it was because the 118 was getting together at Hen and Karen’s house and somehow they decided to include Tommy.
He arrived with a berry topped cheesecake in hand even though Hen had told him he didn’t need to bring anything. Karen opened the door.
“Hey, come on in,” she said warmly. “Everyone’s outside. Buck hasn’t been cajoled into shifting yet, but it will happen with time so that’s always fun to watch.”
Tommy didn’t know Karen all that well. He remembered meeting her back when he was still at the 118 and thinking that Hen had done well for herself. He knew Howie had been responsible for them getting together and — come to think of it — he was sort of responsible for him meeting Evan.
Karen led him through the house. It was cozy and lived in. A family home.
Athena and Hen were laughing at a table, the third chair seemingly Karen’s and a fourth pushed in. Bobby was once more behind the grill, apron on. His eyes searched for Evan, but he didn’t spot him.
“Tommy’s here,” Karen announced.
He got a chorus of hello’s. Tommy smiled and waved at everyone.
“Where should I put this?”
“Oh, right here is fine,” Hen said.
He moved towards the table and Hen snatched the cheesecake from him and then motioned for him to take the fourth chair at the table.
“Come sit with us. We can catch up.”
“Can I get you a drink?” Karen offered.
“Uh…just a beer is fine,” Tommy said.
Karen smiled easily. “Coming right up.”
They brought him right into their conversation, apparently a discussion about Evan’s attempts at getting Chim to allow him to plan a bachelor’s party for him.
“Chim doesn’t want it, Athena,” Hen said.
“I think Buck is just trying to show how much he appreciates Chim. Would it be so bad?” Athena asked.
Hen let out a sigh. “It’s just adding one more thing that he doesn’t want.”
“What does that mean?” Karen asked after placing Tommy’s beer in front of him and taking the remaining chair.
“Well, the wedding was supposed to be small and now it’s become this whole thing,” Hen said.
“Why is that?” Tommy asked.
“Maddie’s parents.”
Which meant Evan’s parents too. Evan had never once talked about or mentioned them, not that Tommy ever went into his own family.
“What about them?” Tommy asked.
“They offered to pay for the wedding,” Karen explained. “And since any wedding is gonna get expensive, Chim and Maddie decided to let them.”
“Things escalated from there,” Athena offered and from the way that her eyebrows raised Tommy could tell it hadn’t been in a good way.
“Now,” Hen said, “the wedding is this big event. Maddie’s parents have invited some family friends and the guest list has gotten bigger than what either Maddie or Chim wanted. It’s been a bit stressful for them both.”
“And now Buck wants to throw a bachelor’s party,” Karen said. “Well, maybe it won’t be a bad thing. What do you think, Tommy?”
Tommy felt put on the spot. He ran a finger over the condensation on the beer bottle. “I guess if Howie is really opposed. But it could also be nice if the party isn’t something wild and crazy.”
Hen hummed in response.
“It also sounds like Evan is just trying to show Howie how much he welcomes him into the family,” Tommy added.
The conversation shifted after that. Tommy was distracted, when he finally saw Evan. He seemed to be in the middle of a conversation with his sister. A serious one going by the way that they both looked more than a little agitated.
“What’s going on over there?” Hen asked.
“I don’t know,” Athena said.
Tommy felt the strange pull to go to Evan and soothe him. It felt like the wolf wanting to break through. Instinct that didn’t make sense to Tommy in any way. He forced himself to stay put as Karen began discussing the newest thing at her job.
“And how’s it been flying for air support?” Karen directed at him.
“I love it,” Tommy said.
“He’s pretty great at it too,” Hen added.
Tommy looked down. “I do alright.”
“Don’t sell yourself short, Kinard.”
He told them a few stories from work and couldn’t deny how good it felt to be around people that understood him and knew a big part of him. Karen even asked about how he dealt with being a Werewolf and working air support.
Athena in particular got a kick out of Tommy admitting that he pretended he was very superstitious about full moons.
“That’s a new one. You’ll have to tell Bobby about that,” Hen said.
“How, uh, how did you all find out about Buck?”
Buck had never told him, he realized, but he remembered how close Hen and Chim were by the time he left and how different things had started to seem when Bobby arrived, but it certainly hadn’t been like it was now.
“He didn’t keep it hidden for long,” Hen said and she explained about the day she found out.
“Of course it was to help someone out,” Tommy said.
Hen nodded with a smile. “That’s our Buckaroo.”
“No,” Buck said, shaking his head. “No. Maddie, tell them they can’t come a week early.”
Maddie sighed. “It’s not like they’re going to listen to me. You know them, Buck. They weren’t asking as much as letting me know they were coming early.”
“And where are they staying?” Buck asked.
When Maddie had gotten the call, Buck had assumed it was something to do with the wedding. He hadn’t noticed it at first, the stress that Maddie was under. He’d known she was busy with wedding planning and to him it had just seemed like something good and happy. Maddie and Chim were finally getting married.
Of course, it wasn’t as simple as that. Not when their parents got involved.
After leaving home all those years ago, Buck hadn’t looked back. It went both ways in the sense that his parents never tried to reach out to him. Later he learned from Maddie that they had asked her if she knew about where he was and upon confirmation that Maddie knew he’d gone they’d just left it at that. Buck couldn’t pretend that it hadn’t hurt to know they didn’t care. It had made it easier to leave them behind, though.
After he was bitten, that was when he was absolutely sure that he wouldn’t be talking to his parents any time soon. He didn’t even tell Maddie about his lycanthropy until she came out to California. It had been a real shock to her, but it wasn’t something that Buck was willing to hide when Maddie was right there in front of him.
“Where are they staying, Maddie?” Buck asked.
“I offered them the guest room at my house,” Maddie said. “I only thought they’d be here for the weekend.”
Buck let out a breath. In truth he had no problem with his parents being around. He’d done alright the last time they came out, granted he’d been in a coma for a part of it. Still, he and Maddie had planned that out meticulously so they’d be gone before the full moon. It was the same reason that Maddie had picked out the day she did for the wedding, it was four days after the full moon which meant that if their parents were arriving a week beforehand they’d be there during the full moon.
“Look, you’ll just have to be careful,” Maddie said. “I’ll tell them you’re working and keep them occupied with the wedding and Jee.”
Buck let out a breath. “Yeah and then I’ll never hear the end of how I was so unhelpful during my own sister’s wedding.”
Maddie looked frustrated. Annoyed with him even and he hated that, but he also knew that he was right and that things might go even worse. When it came down to it, Buck was the thing their parents hunted and they would hate him if they ever found out he was a Werewolf. A part of him even wondered if they might try to kill him.
“I know you’re worried,” Maddie said. “And I’m sorry I’m bringing them back here again.”
Buck sighed. He pulled her into a hug. “Just…I know you’re stressed but this will go so much worse if they figure out what I am. Even worse if they find out about Eddie. About Tommy.”
That made him tense up. What would they do to them…but no, Buck would keep his best friend and his — well, whatever he and Tommy were — he would keep them away from the Buckleys no matter what it took.
“I know,” Maddie said. “I know. But you know we won’t let them do anything to any of you.”
He hugged Maddie and he watched her go to where Chim was sitting on a blanket on the grass with Jee and her toys. He could tell that Maddie was filling him in from the way that Chim tensed. The wedding was supposed to be happy and one of the best days for Maddie and Chim and it was slowly becoming something else instead. Buck didn’t want to add to the stress.
Walking towards Bobby, he spotted Tommy at the table. He hadn’t even known that he’d got there and his breath caught in his throat. Something inside him unfurled and he just…he let go because Tommy was just a few feet from him and already looking at him. Buck had never felt the way he felt about Tommy, not for anyone.
“Buck? Are you alright?” Bobby asked.
Buck turned to him at once. “I’m — yeah, I’m…turns out my parents are getting here earlier than we planned. They’ll be here during the full moon.”
“They’re not going to find out, Buck,” Bobby said. “We’ll do anything we can to prevent that.”
“I know,” Buck said. “I know. It’s just…” he trailed off.
Bobby reached out, touching his shoulder. “It’ll be okay, Buck.”
He really really hoped so.
“What’s wrong?” Tommy didn’t get to ask until it was almost fully dark out.
The whole day, he and Evan had wound up with other people between them. Tommy was happy to feel so included and to have more than just Evan as a reason to be there, but it almost felt like anytime he and Evan would get close someone would come along to start talking to one or both of them.
“Wrong?” Evan asked.
“Evan, something is bothering you.”
Evan gave a short nod. “Turns out mine and Maddie’s parents are coming to stay the week before the wedding.”
Having gotten the sense that there was something up with Evan’s parents and going by this reaction, Tommy was even more sure there was something going on there that he didn’t know about.
“Are you not okay with that?”
Evan chuckled. “Oh, I am definitely not okay with it. Maddie has a better relationship with them and they’re trying. You know, they helped them with the downpayment on the house and now they’re paying for the wedding, it’s all guilt money but it’s meant well.”
“And where do you fit in?” Tommy asked.
“I fit in here,” Evan said. “With everyone here. There are some things that you can’t come back from.”
Maybe Evan wasn’t giving him a full detailed explanation, but Tommy understood. He understood better than most, so when he reached for Evan’s hand and Evan grasped it, he hoped to convey that understanding. Families were complicated. He hadn’t spoken to his in years.
“We tried to plan it out so we could avoid the full moon,” Evan said. “Now they’ll be here during.”
“They don’t know you’re a Werewolf,” Tommy said.
Evan gave a nod. “I’m hoping they’ll never know.” And then he got really serious. He turned to stand directly in front of Tommy and grabbed his other hand. “Tommy, my parents…they can never know any of us are Werewolves.”
There was something there that Evan seemed to want to convey. He actually sounded kind of scared, which Tommy didn’t ever want to see on Evan again.
“What’s…what’s going on, Evan?”
Eddie, who had been convinced to shift into his wolf came running at them all of a sudden, bumping into Evan’s side and sending him right into Tommy, who grabbed hold of Evan. Evan leaned into him and fixed his arms to rest around Tommy’s waist and Eddie circled them, tail hitting their legs before he gave a wuff and left.
“I think that’s Eddie asking why we’re both still on two legs,” Tommy said.
Evan was still in his arms and Tommy pulled him in closer. Evan didn’t seem to mind.
“Can I tell you later?” Evan asked. “It’s just—”
“Yes, Evan. Of course.”
He could feel the way that Evan relaxed and that was maybe concerning on its own.
“Parents are complicated,” he said. “I get that. Are you gonna join Eddie?”
“Only if you do it too?” Evan asked, smiling at him with just a touch of playfulness.
In Tommy’s opinion, it was a bad idea to have three Werewolves in someone’s backyard, especially one that wasn’t all that big, but Evan was looking at him with so much hope that Tommy couldn’t have said no. He followed Evan to a spot around the house and they did quick work of their clothes. They walked out side by side and Tommy hadn’t been expecting that everyone was waiting for them. It made him self conscious and like he should just shift right back to human.
Evan bumped his shoulder into his and when Hen approached, Evan put himself between them and Tommy watched as Hen pet Evan’s head and down his back.
“Tommy,” she said, “you make a beautiful wolf.”
He inched closer and her hand was hesitant when she touched him, but her fingers tangled in his fur gently and he could smell how happy and pleased she was. Howie approached them, Jee in his arms. Tommy had seen Evan and Eddie with the kids, but that didn’t mean that he wasn’t scared about interacting with them himself, especially Jee who was the youngest and smallest. But Howie brought her closer and Tommy held himself still as her little hands touched him, patting him. Her giggles and how she tried to wrap her tiny arms around him melted his heart.
Tommy met all of them again as a wolf. Maddie pet his head and scratched his ears. Christopher threw his arms around Tommy’s neck and Karen ran her fingers through his fur, fixing anything that had gotten rumpled. They all smelled wonderful and welcoming, but Evan’s scent was what Tommy gravitated towards.
He stuck by him, couldn’t help but want to be near Evan. Evan seemed to feel the same.
Tommy had no idea how long they ran around as wolves. He’d never been petted or had so many different hands in his fur. He hadn’t known how good it would feel or how it would make him feel like he actually belonged there. He didn’t want to think of them as pack, they weren’t there yet, but the possibility was there. The acceptance was there.
“Come over?” Evan asked when they were both getting re-dressed.
Tommy slipped his shirt on and turned to find Evan leaning against the side of Hen and Karen’s house.
He looked amazing. Hair mussed, his shirt a little wonky. Tommy crossed the distance between them and Evan just waited for him, head tilted up like he was waiting to see what Tommy would do. Tommy leaned in towards him, pressed his hands on the house on either side of Evan and gave Evan just about enough time to push him away before he kissed him. Evan kissed back at once, drew him in closer with hands that landed on Tommy’s hips.
The kiss was hungry, it was passionate. Tommy could keep kissing him forever if he were allowed.
The sound of something falling tore them apart and they turned to find Eddie. He was only in jeans, shirt held to his chest bunched up. His shoes were what had tumbled out of his arms.
“Sorry,” Eddie said. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.”
Then, he picked up his shoes and backed away, but he looked way too pleased with himself.
When Tommy looked back at Evan, he was leaning back against the house, but when their eyes met he let out a laugh and then his arms were around Tommy and his face was pressed to the space between Tommy’s neck and shoulder, still laughing.
“Evan, we should go out there,” Tommy said.
“I’ve been trying to find a way to tell them. But that…that works.”
Evan laughed again and Tommy joined him. They hadn’t had that discussion. They hadn’t really talked about anything because they had kissed a few times and gone on a single date and been too busy to do more than flirt over text.
“Eddie isn’t going back there to tell everyone is he?” Tommy asked.
“He won’t,” Evan said. “He was just going to be the hardest to tell. Might give me some grief, but I’m glad he knows.”
Buck didn’t hate that Eddie found out by seeing him and Tommy kissing. He just mostly thought it was funny and that it made things easier for him. It eased the conversation that he and Eddie would have about it later. When he and Tommy finally did get back, Eddie met his eyes only to shake his head and look away. Hen raised an eyebrow in his direction and there was a moment when Buck thought that maybe she knew what was going on too. Considering how he’d called her before the first date, there was more than enough reason for him to think Hen definitely could put it together.
They all headed out around the same time, picking up after themselves so it wouldn’t all be up to Hen and Karen.
Eddie walked out with him and Tommy. Chris walking just ahead of them.
“I didn’t want to see it, but I approve,” Eddie said before he went to help Chris get into the car.
“Oh. I’m — it’s new.”
Eddie chuckled. “I figured, though I should have seen it coming. See you at work?”
“Yeah. See you. Bye, Chris!”
Chris waved at him.
When he got back to Tommy, he grabbed his hand. Their fingers linked together and Buck loved the way their hands fit. He loved that Tommy’s hand was bigger than his, but that they still managed to fit together. Tommy pulled him towards him and then in the direction of Buck’s Jeep.

Would have loved to have magically made my way to Normandy this year to catch everything, but more appriopriately I have to keep attending duty shifts 🥲 The best I can do with the bit of time before I get back to work is a repost of my proudest contribution to the fandom to date, a BoB-centric music video! HAPPY D-DAY AT 80 EVERYONE!!!
youtube
Notes and a bit of my ramblings below and here !
I'm so incredibly grateful, endlessly amused, and more than a little heartbroken that we get to look back on D-Day on it's 80th anniversary together!
The meme posts are topnotch and stupidly comforting (keep em coming!!!) and while Tom Hanks is having to serve serious and honorable statements left and right about one of the biggest events in military history in Normandy right now, we get to sit back and reblog Luz's TONAAAIYGHT IS THE NAIIIGHYT OF NITES until we reach a deafening echo chamber 😂 good ol'reliable hbowar!
On another note, while I'm obviously aware none of us here are old enough to have participated in the war, I can't help feeling honored to have reached this point with fellow fans. Anyone brazen enough to sift through tumblr to find the hbowar community is a person of culture and taste, and a bit of a hoe let's face it -- but more importantly, a person who understands, respects, and is continuously curious about all of the history behind it. A mere 80 years from the day in the grand scheme of things, and children now are picking up on Neo-nazism because it's being packaged as something edgy and trendy on Tiktok. It hurts, but makes me all the more thankful for this safe space. If you've reached this far in the post, thanks?? And thanks for being you, and keep being you!
In the hope that we can keep the lessons of WWII alive when its veterans are all well and truly gone, happy D-day anniversary, everyone! Currahee, semper fi, and sunnuvabicsh THAT'S (INDEED) FRANCE!!!

i just think psychology is so fucking cool. like the littlest experience or encounter can completely alter how your brain works. or, a repeating experience that occurs over many years can change how you act and react. take barty from harry potter for example. because of his father neglecting him and hunting down dark wizards, barty became one of the dark wizards and committed many horrible crimes just so his father would actually see him. another example is frank from catch me if you can (i think that’s what it’s called not sure, it has leonardo dicaprio and tom hanks). he just wanted his parents to get back together so he used his little tricks to get money to bring them back together. and when that didn’t work, he stayed in it for the thrill of the chase. if his parents couldn’t give him the attention he wanted, he figured the fbi could. like isn’t that just incredible? the inner workings of your subconscious altering your brain and either gradually changing the way you think, or rapidly. i hope to study psychology at some point just cause i think it’s so fun to pick apart what makes a person how they are and figure out their motives and the whys, it’s just amazing.

i was listening to a podcast about the 2002 movie “catch me if you can” (great movie. highly recommend it.) and on the podcast they talked about leo dicaprio and his career and his stardom and i was hit with a critique of leo that the hosts seemed intent on overlooking: when was the last time leonardo dicaprio, one of the few people in hollywood who can greenlight anything by attaching his face to it, lent his star power to a film director who was not already Quite Established?
it turns out that the last time he worked with someone who did not already have an oscar/nomination was r.d. robb’s “don’s plum which came out in *2001* but was filmed before titanic even, leo and tobey maguire apparently fought against the film’s release, and it made zero money.
but, while talking about leo’s career on the podcast they also talk about other movie stars (toms hanks and cruise specifically) and what they’ve done with the past 20 years versus dicaprio and, yes, leo has consistently worked with seemingly The Best and, for the most part, only makes critical hits but, when you sit down and compare the filmographies of the three, To Me it’s far more interesting that the toms have been able to maintain their star power over the last two decades while still taking risks with their directors — giving new talent, talent in another field like tv or animation, or talent that has been stuck in movie jail — a shot at the big leagues (and people can quibble all they want but, between you and me, live action theatrical films are still the undisputed Big Leagues of hollywood). and, beyond just the films that get made, there are even more stories of the toms using their influence to help first-time directors find a distributor, or fight off over-reaching studio execs, or just being unofficial and uncredited script doctors and producing consultants, for pretty much anyone who asks. those stories just don’t exist with leo. with him there are actually more stories, straight from the mouths of writer/directors, about how leo will be interested in their script but flat out refuses to work with any director who isn’t a big brand name themselves. easier to have a somewhat perfect career when you refuse to take risks.
i’m not actually trying to pit the toms (or any other star — i just talked about the toms in this post because the podcast in question used them as comps) against leo — in the IP era, it’s good that there are still people who can get non comic book movies made. but, it felt disingenuous listening to a conversation about how great a star leo is that refused to confront how safe his career has been. because, if we really get down to it, he never really does what a movie star should. he never lends his face on a poster, his name above a title, to a movie that would not have been made otherwise, to someone who isn’t already in the club. he never does a movie for scale, with the potential for box office points if it does well financially, just so something can get made. maybe leo will change his tune as he ages. i hope so. but, he’s already 48 and by his age hanks and cruise were very much into their current eras of regularly working with new talent and imparting what they learned from the greats to a new generation. there are so few people with his power, his clout, his knowledge that we need people like him to pass it on. i hope he starts passing it on.

A chat with Noah Schnapp, the 11-year-old Montrealer who voices Charlie Brown in The Peanuts Movie
'I listened to as much as I could find online to get the voice right. Winning the role took a lot of hard work'
Special to National Post
Published Nov 06, 2015
Noah Schnapp, the 11-year-old actor, son of former Montrealers Karine and Mitchell Schnapp, was selected to provide the pipes for the ever-flappable Charlie Brown in The Peanuts Movie after an extensive hunt. For good reason: his take is dead-on. It turns out that wasn’t accidental.
“In preparing for my recording audition, my mom told me to YouTube the old Peanuts Thanksgiving and Christmas specials to hear how Charlie Brown speaks,” the articulate Schnapp says in a phone interview from his family’s New York City base. “So I listened to as much as I could find online to get the voice right. Winning the role took a lot of hard work, but good fortune as well. There were a lot of other talented kids up for the part, too.”
After studying the character, Schnapp says, he can relate to Charlie Brown in a lot of ways. “Charlie never gives up, and I try never to give up either. And my dog Spaghetti is a bit like Snoopy — a real wise guy.”
Schnapp already has an impressive resumé — moviegoers can catch him in Steven Spielberg’s new Bridge of Spies, and will soon be able to see him in the indie feature, We Only Know So Much, based on the book of the same title.
He is commuting between New York and Atlanta, where he is in the midst of shooting Stranger Things, a supernatural thriller series for Netflix.
And he spent a portion of last spring in Park City, Utah, where he took part in the Sundance Directors Lab and played the lead in director Brent Green’s Untitled Loveless Fable. No surprise, Schnapp was the youngest person invited to the event, which was also attended by such heavies as Robert Redford and Ed Harris.
To top it all off, he was just listed in Variety’s Youth Impact Report as a rising star under 21 to watch out for.
Pretty heady stuff for a kid who only started acting in community theatre three years ago.
Schnapp plays the son of Tom Hanks’s negotiator character in Bridge of Spies, and is most convincing as a kid who’s concerned about a Soviet nuclear retaliation at the height of the Cold War. He dutifully learns the ludicrous duck-and-cover technique should a missile strike while he’s at school, and keeps his bathtub full of water should it strike while he’s at home.
“I have to be honest and admit that before I started working on that project, I actually didn’t know much about that period or who they (Hanks and Spielberg), were,” Schnapp says. “But you have to understand that I was only nine at the time.
“However, when we started pre-production, I watched most of their movies. Then I went: ‘Wow!’ I hadn’t realized how big and how important they were.”
He was particularly struck by Hanks’s manner.
“He’s just such a selfless, generous actor,” Schnapp marvels. “In most of his movies, he’s usually playing the hero and good guy, which is what he really is. He would always be holding on to my shoulder (during shooting), and putting me into the spotlight. And not just me — he was always trying to make everyone else shine, too. It was really such a great experience working with him and Steven Spielberg.”
Schnapp is nothing if not determined. Because of his lack of experience, he figured he was a long shot to land the roles in The Peanuts Movie and Bridge of Spies.
“It was kind of crazy — those were some of my first auditions,” he recalls. “I was very excited, but I didn’t really think I could get the work in Peanuts. Still, I really, really wanted it, because I knew I could do it. And I got it.
“It was the same thing for Bridge of Spies. It was crazy, too. Then I just started getting more and more roles.”
Apart from Hanks, he’s had some solid parental figures watching his back when he’s on the job. In We Only Know So Much, Jeanne Tripplehorn plays his mom, while Winona Ryder takes on that role in Stranger Things.
The Sundance Directors Lab was a great learning experience. “There were about 200 directors, actors and screenwriters. I learned that it was OK to experiment with scenes and improvise new lines. We were like a big family — everyone became my friend.”
Though he didn’t start acting until he was eight, Schnapp says he caught the bug two years earlier.
“After I saw Annie on Broadway, I came out of the show crying, because I wanted to be on that stage. Then when I watched TV, I just knew I wanted to be that person in the TV, too.”

I know a lot of people enjoyed 'let me kiss you', so tell me a bit about it! Favorite part? Which idea was first in your head?
Thanks, Zelmo!
It took me a few weeks to even come up with this story! At first, it was going to be set in the TP universe or BotW universe at balls. Everything I wrote was terrible and had already been done better by others, numerous times over.
Then the idea of OOT Link utterly confused and far out of his element came to me with the below snippet (which is what I wrote first)
Rocking back and forth on his haunches, where he crouched in the hayloft, Link’s stomach churned with equal parts mortification and excitement. Strong smells of hay and manure filled his nostrils when he breathed in, trying to still his racing heart.
“Hey!” Navi fluttered by his hands, her wings tickling the backs of his knuckles. Had Link done something to make Malon think he wanted her to kiss him? He didn’t know the first thing about kissing. Kokiri didn’t kiss on the lips.
My HC for OOT Link is he's still child in an adult's body and needs time to adjust and grow-up. (like Tom Hanks character, Josh in the movie Big) So my favorite part of the story is when Sheik catches him misusing the ocarina in the snippet below:
Link finally spotted Malon. She’d found a new, more suitable partner. A young ranch hand swept her around the packed earth with practiced ease. There would be no fear of bruised toes from him, and the way his brown eyes glowed, he’d probably welcome a kiss. Jealousy coiled like a snake in his belly, and Link narrowed his eyes, pressing his lips flat. He wasn't sure he wanted the kiss, but that didn’t mean he relished seeing anyone else receiving what could have been his moments before.
Pulling the ocarina from his pocket, Link brought it to his lips and began to play, casting his bright blue eyes heavenward. Dark storm clouds rolled in, obscuring the full moon and stars, dropping a veil of darkness over the partygoers. A deluge started moments later. The flames in the colorful paper lanterns strung over the corral sputtered and hissed as large raindrops pelted the heads of the partygoers, sending them scurrying for shelter.
Link chuckled, watching the mayhem unfurl below him. Was it petty? Maybe, but it was worth it.
“That wasn’t very nice,” Sheik’s soft voice whispered in his ear. Startled, Link lost his balance and fell back on his bottom, sending up a cloud of dust and hay.
Busted, Link! 😂🤣

Rec me films pls because you seem based
Hi!! I took so long to answer this because I was like well now I need to prove that I am based with my movie recs. Jury’s out on that! I chose five of my all time favorites in no particular order.
1. You’ve Got Mail. I LOVE Nora Ephron and she wrote and directed this one so it’s extra special. Tom Hanks (of hbo war fame) and Meg Ryan play rival bookstore owners who are, unbeknownst to them, online pen pals. It’s a classic romantic comedy—the bickering! the chemistry! the banter! But it sticks with me because it has this very compelling sense of melancholy to it that makes it feel more real. It’s bittersweet, and it gets a lot of flack online for the bitter parts of the story, but I think those parts make it truer. Anyway it’s New York in the nineties and it’s Meg and Tom and it’s warm and nostalgic and I watch it every year. favorite line (okay two because I couldn’t pick): “No, but there is the dream of someone else.” “how about coffee, drinks, dinner, a movie… for as long as we both shall live?”
2. Before Sunset. I ADORE this movie. You have to watch before sunrise first, which is also really great, but Sunset is my favorite. Another film that lives and dies by the chemistry between its two actors and the script. If you’ve read my webgott fic you know the gist of the plot but basically: two lovers reunite after one perfect night nine years ago. Jesse wrote a book about Celine and she comes to the reading. Then they walk around Paris and catch up on the last nine years of their lives. It’s all about the magic and the romance of a second chance. But it’s also about how spending so much time apart and growing and changing complicates that. It’s another movie that I find all the more romantic because it feels real. favorite line: “I guess when you're young, you just believe there'll be many people with whom you'll connect with. Later in life, you realize it only happens a few times.”
3. Say Anything. THEE best of the 80s teen movies, endlessly parodied, but somehow underrated. Average guy Lloyd Dobler falls for the beautiful valedictorian Diane Court after graduation. This is the origin of the famous boombox over your head romantic gesture. It’s a very sweet movie about first love and coming of age. Endlessly quotable and clever. John Cusack is just so, so likable and so you really understand why Diane likes Lloyd so much. The John Hughes movies get all of the love but this is the one that stands the test of time. favorite line: “I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen.”
4. The Social Network. I mean it’s the social network! What is there to say? Incredible cast, incredible script, incredible directing. It’s one of those movies that’s such a movie. I’m most interested in it for the tragic doomed friendship between Mark and Eduardo. I LOVE a friendship that rots and crumbles but is somehow always with you anyway. We see them as best friends who create something together and then watch it fall apart and we see how it affects them in the present. They snipe at each other and yet still have the odd impulse to defend each other even as they’re on opposite sides of a lawsuit. Under all the pain there’s still love. favorite line: “I was your only friend.”
5. Bridget Jones Diary. A little bit sillier and fluffier than the rest but still excellent. First off, it’s British, and I love the Brits. The cast is endlessly charming. It’s so funny. Bridget is a mess—like actually a mess, and not in that usual boring rom com way—and I love her so much. It’s based on pride and prejudice (as is you’ve got mail) and that’s one of my favorite dynamics. It has the funniest fight scene in the rain with one of the best needle drops of all time. Honestly it has many great needle drops. It’s a movie about finding someone who likes all those weird messy parts of you and I find that very romantic. favorite line: “No, I like you very much. Just as you are.”
thanks for the ask!!

Book Review: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Tumblr media
Project Hail Mary was everything I loved about The Martian and more.
Again, it featured an endearing and indefatigable hero in Ryland Grace, who wakes up on a spaceship in another star system with no memory of who he is, how he got there, or what his mission entails. (Amnesia tropes are not my favorite but this one just ticked all the right boxes. No notes!) There was lots of science: from sunlight-eating microbes called Astrophage to neutrinos to EVA suits to xeonite engineering. It also had a high-stakes space race, with the clocks winding down and time running out. Only, instead of Grace being burdened with only saving himself like Mark Watney, he was responsible for the survival of the Earth--and humanity as we know it!
The thing I enjoyed most about this book, aside from the believable sci-fi of it all, which made for the best quantum spin-out I've had in a long time, was that it was a story about hope. About sacrifice. About finding friendship, forging connection, in the most unlikely of ways and in the most unlikely of places in the universe. Weir does a remarkable job of grounding readers in that concept, giving them something to root for. Something that tethers them to the soul of what intelligent life is or should be, even as the task at hand seems to grow more impossible by the second, and I thought that was inspiring. Moving. Brilliant, to speak plainly.
I won't lie, though...bittersweetness does pervade.
There were a couple significant moments when a situation felt reminiscent of Tom Hanks in Castaway when things are dire and he's separated from his volleyball bestie, Wilson, and I was gutted to the core. Absolutely shattered. (Rocky, I'm looking at you, buddy.) And let me tell you, it was Hard Times at Ridgemont High for me when that happened!
Still, it was those twists and turns, those moments that had me catching my breath, pushing back fears, wanting Grace and Rocky to succeed but also not quite expecting they would given the odds stacked against them, that had me buckled in, bouncing on the edge of my seat, burning to discover if, in fact, they would complete that Hail Mary pass. And do you know what? I wouldn't trade that kind of rocket-fueled suspense in a story for anything!
So bravo for that, sir. Bravo.
4/5 stars

Why do people think everyone is just going to take a pic of a celebrity they happen to see out and about wherever? // I happen to live in a city where hundreds of movies and shows are filmed. I also live in the area where many of the actors live while in town or hang out - including the man you all adore. I see actors daily, not ONCE have I seen anyone ask for an selfie. Nor have I ever taken to social media to share that I have seen X,Y or Z.
Some people do, but a lot don’t. I’m also from a large city (not the same one) where a bunch of popular athletes live, and plenty of movies or shows are filmed and a lot of people really don’t bother anyone famous when they see them. I mean, you definitely catch the shock of recognition on people’s face when they realize who they’re seeing, but they don’t bother them. I’ve personally been walking down the street to here, there, or wherever and have walked past Tom Hanks, Johnny Depp (pre Amber Heard stuff), Heath Ledger, and Lin Manuel Miranda. I REALLY wanted to ask LMM for a picture because I’m a big fan, but he was with his wife and their kids and I didn’t want to disrupt their little family. It didn’t feel appropriate. Had it just been him, I maybe would have asked? I think that’s how most people feel when they see a celeb out and about. But there are others who have no problem asking for pictures. I’ve personally taken a sneaky photo of an athlete before because a friend of mine had a massive crush on him, but I never shared it anywhere other than showing her. To me, it felt creepy to kind of expose someone’s location like that on a night out. Overall, I think it all depends on the person themself and the situation in which they find themselves. I don’t think sightings and pictures of celebs is a one size fits all kind of thing🤷‍♀️🦎

Who are your top 3 favourite actors and/or your top 3 celebrity crushes?
Hi everyone! This one is good! Gonna rant a little bit with this one, and this aren't on a real top three order.
James McAvoy first of all, the man that you are omg. He was robbed when nobody nominated him for his work on Split, he's so great on everything. My favorite performance was on The last king of Scotland, but my favorite role of his was on X-Men, cause I love X-men LMAO.
Next we have Neil Patrick Harris, He doesn't need an introduction, he's like a Barbie, he can do dance, he sings, he does magic. HE'S EPIC. Ofc my favorite performance and role it's the straightest man on earth Barney Stinson (I'm a HIMYM fan, hate the ending not the player)
Gonna do honorable mentions to Meryl Streep being for me in my worst, Anne Hathaway cause she makes me laugh on everything She's in, Pedro Pascal cause he's Pedro Pascal, what do you thought I was gonna say)
And of course my dad Tom Hanks is my other favorite actor, love you man, you and every movie you are in, I mean you are on Forrest Gump, Catch me if you can and on the Green Mile, AMAZING DUDE WTF.
idk I love this people.
