she/her. writer mainly of fluffy zelink romance, with a smattering of angst. I love happily ever after endings.

It’s a common interpretation of King Rhoam that he was abusive toward Princess Zelda. In many ways, this makes sense. He’s openly cruel to her in one of the cutscenes, and it’s clear that he’s pressured her into undergoing physically demanding religious rituals that seem to have no efficacy.
Still, I don’t think Rhoam is a bad person. He’s remarkably kind during his encounters with Link on the Great Plateau, and the diary he keeps hidden in his study in the Hyrule Castle library reveals that he was deeply concerned about Zelda’s wellbeing. Link’s memories reveal that the king gave his daughter a surprising amount of breathing room, allowing her to spend as much time away from the castle as she wished as long as it didn’t interfere with her duties.
I feel that Rhoam was doing the best he could in an extremely difficult situation. In the cutscene in which he’s cruel to Zelda, he informs her that people have been calling her a failure. This isn’t unfair, as most people in the kingdom wouldn’t understand that Ganon is an immediate threat, and everyone would more than likely resent the expense of excavating and reactivating the Divine Beasts and Guardians.
Rhoam understands how serious the situation is, however, and he understands that the fight against Ganon won’t be an ordinary war. If you knew that almost every single person in your kingdom would die, wouldn’t you do everything you could to ensure that didn’t happen? And could you really say that the pressure of political turmoil in the face of looming disaster wouldn’t affect you emotionally?
I’m not saying that child abuse is okay, obviously. These are fictional characters in a fantastic situation. Rather, what I want to say is that I can’t help but feel sympathy for Rhoam, who clearly made mistakes but was doing the best he could to protect both his kingdom and his daughter’s happiness, and I don’t think he deserves the hate he gets.
#there is closure to some extent#he does say in his diary when she returns from the spring of wisdom he will tell her he loves her no matter what#and be less of a task master and more of a father#it just comes too late for Zelda to hear him say it#which is kind of sad#breath of the wild#zelda meta#king rhoam#legend of zelda#zelink#the legend of zelda

Excerpt:
Medli.
Her strapless indigo blue velvet gown is dotted with silver gemstones that glitter like stars, as if she’s torn a piece out of the evening sky to wrap around herself. The dress accentuates her hourglass figure and showcases shapely legs that appear through a slit up to her hips, when she lands center stage.
In person, it’s clear to see why she’s a mega star. With one simple gesture, raising a delicate finger to sparkling ruby lips dusted with glitter, she silences the audience. Hazel eyes rimmed with long black eyelashes, most women would kill for, rove over the disarray littering the stage before locking with Link’s stunned blue eyes. He steps aside when she moves to stand in front of the mic.
“Well, I want to thank you all for treating my new friends with such unabandoned enthusiasm.” Her mouth curves into a smile that’s as sweet as apple pie. Zelda feels more than a small twinge of jealousy when Medli places a hand lightly on Link’s bare upper arm, and briefly admires the winding, intricate design of the Farosh full sleeve tattoo before turning her attention back to the audience. “I guess you know by now Link and I are collaborating. Would you like to hear the duet he wrote for me?”
When the crowd roars Link takes that as his cue to replace Sidon at the keyboard. He cracks his knuckles when he sits on a piano bench the young Goron roadie had brought onstage while Medli was speaking.
Duet? He hadn’t told Zelda it was a duet.

June’s vote for a fanart poster! I was really into Fullmetal Alchemist in high school, the original anime anyways, and I’ve yet to entirely go through brotherhood but I’ve started. I liked a couple other characters more than these sweet brothers, but even then I knew Edward was just pretty. And never would’ve even attempted Alphonse. But Now i’ve learned I actually quite enjoy rendering metal. Maybe it has the same shimmery reflective joy that water gives me. Teaser Tuesday!
Chapter Fourteen - Heart in a Cage (posting tomorrow)
This may be the chapter everyone has been waiting for...the gig.
When he lifts his head to sing the first verse, his kohl-lined electric-blue eyes, bright as the finest cut sapphires, pierce Zelda straight through to her soul. Her vision tunnels until all she can see is him, and it feels like he’s singing directly to her.
‘Is our secret safe tonight? and are we out of sight?
Or will our world come tumbling down?
Will they find our hiding place? Is this our last embrace?
Or will the walls start caving in?’
His bandmates begin a steady chant of ‘It could be wrong, could be wrong’ while Link sings the chorus.
‘but it should have been right.
To let our hearts ignite
Are we digging a hole?
This is out of control.
It can never last.
Must erase it fast.’
Heat rises to her cheeks, as her vision clears and the roar of the crowd accompanies the band playing on stage. He’s written another song for her. Zelda is flattered and also somewhat mortified. Openly singing about their love and the physicality of their relationship is not flying under the radar. That’s asking for all sorts of gossip to rain down upon them. She racks her brain trying to remember, when she tried to get Link to take the phone, if she had told him the entirety of the conversation with her mother. It had been such a busy week, Zelda thinks perhaps it slipped her mind or she didn’t think it warranted repeating. Now she wishes she had thought to mention it to him.
‘Love is our resistance. They’ll keep us apart
And they won’t stop breaking us down.’
Hold me. Our lips must always be sealed.’
Ghirahim’s eyes light up like sparklers shining in the dark on Hylia Day. “Oh my!” He chuckles beside her, a look of pure delight on his face. “He found a way around that pesky NDA, didn’t he, Zelda?”
Oh no, not good.

Uneasy Lies the Chosen of Farore (revised)
Chapter 22: Koholint Rock
The door is a plain wooden door, with a very ordinary-looking iron lock. There is no decoration on the door to suggest what might be behind it. Sliding the key into the lock and giving it a turn, he feels tumblers move and the door swings open. He expects the seemingly empty room, but not the sudden foreboding. Something is not right, and he hesitates before crossing the threshold.
Had he thought the room was empty? There’s a pedestal in the center, so very similar to the one he drew the Master Sword from, a lifetime ago in the Temple of Time. Had it been there and he somehow missed it?
He steps inside the chamber and hears the bars close behind him. His heart rate speeds up and he slowly wraps his fingers around the handle of the sword and draws it while scanning the room. He takes care with each step forward, noting subtle changes to the room as he goes. There’s a beam of soft golden light shining on the pedestal in the center. He thinks he hears a harp picking out the melody he has been hearing the entire time he’s been crawling these passages.
The voice comes from behind him, soft, velvety. “Welcome, Chosen of Farore.”
He spins to face the bearer, and... it’s himself. Sort of.

so cute. I talked to my babies like they understood every word, too! The looks people would give me.
"Cake" - An SS Zelink Drabble
Time for a short SS Zelink drabble for the "This or That" event @zelinkcommunity A birthday disaster turns family fluff ❤️
Prompt: Cake Words: 299
Zelda tiptoed through the door of their cottage, trying to remain stealthy as she caught the tail end of Link’s groan. He proceeded to address their infant son as if he was actually cognizant of his actions.
“I guess it was my mistake to leave you sitting so close to the counter. But still, how did you even make this much of a mess? There’s icing everywhere…”
Zelda’s eyebrows merely rose in amusement. This ought to be good. She soon kicked off her boots and entered the kitchen. “Is something wrong?”
“Zelda!” Link exclaimed. He quickly shuffled in front of the highchair where the baby sat, clearly covering up for some disaster that had taken place while she was away. “You…You’re back.”
‘Of course,” she replied, slowly drawing near. “I told you I’d return early so we could celebrate my birthday together tonight.”
“Right…” Link’s shoulders fell in defeat for a moment, but he was nothing if not resourceful. He soon turned around, wrestling with the baby who was shielded from view. “Well, I have a bit of a surprise for you.”
Zelda crossed her arms and smirked. Link was well-known for his thoughtful birthday surprises, whether it be gifts or treats or parties. She was more than a little curious to see what he had prepared this time.
In the end, the hero turned around, presenting a babbling baby whose face, arms, and torso were smeared with icing and cake crumb. A single unlit candle waved back and forth in his hand as he recognized his mama.
“I made you a birthday cake,” Link announced with an almost sheepish smile. “It ended up having a…unique flavor.”
“I see,” Zelda mused as she closed the distance and wiped some icing from her child’s cheek. “My favorite kind of pumpkin.”
