vil and neige are cousins, princes of. pyroxene? or maybe pyroxene would be made up of a few kingdoms....hmmmmm...idk yet. regardless, their parents' co-rule their kingdom. but neige is the actual heir of the throne. this could be because vil is technically illegitimate. eric had no wife, he just really wanted to be a dad. and so vil's mother, for purposes of this, is either a vampire or a water nymph, or some sort of enchantress, idk, but regardless, vil isnt going to inherit. (also read @pinkbeeps sympathy for the villain fic and lost my mind over it so, yeah, crewel is a vil dad, so at some point when vil and neige are 7 and 6 respectively, crewel and eric get together.)

meanwhile, sunset savannah was split by a civil war? or a revolt of some kind. leona and falena stop it, but part of the truce that is made is that falena cannot rule all of it. so the elephant graveyard half, and some surrounding land makes up what becomes leona's kingdom. why? idk.

then, when neige is like, 17, vil 18, and leona 20, its decided that neige should get married, so all the suitors from various kingdoms come. cause, heir to the throne. and fairest of them all. falena, who is now married himself and has cheka, suggests leona go, but leona isnt rlly looking to get married. falena bugs him abt it tho, and leona still isnt for the marriage thing but rationales that princes and infleuntial people from all over will be vying for neige's hand. leona can go, but not for purposes of throwing his hat in the ring, (neige is an heir and leona has a kingdom to take care of--neither of them would leave their respective homes) but rather, to make connections to better help his people.

and then he meets vil. guy is SMITTENNNNNNN from the get go, he's like, whoever was giving out the fairest of them all titles, did they like, not see you???? heLLO??????

vil is warming up to leona, but also, lets be real, vil has an insecurity abt being a backup, second option when it comes to neige. he would have been wary considering leona is here in technicality as a suitor for neige. but it becomes apparent leona was not here for that in acuality. cause leona, in true oddysseus fashion, does not even bring a wedding gift, guy was just here to network and then fell in love.

it goes as the story always does. neige's parents are worried abt the influx of suitors and wondering how to choose without angering one kingdom over the other. and leona is like, hey i got a solution, but if you want it, you gotta put in a good word for me with vil's parents, your brother and BIL, and you gotta convince them that its okay if vil marries. and theyre like DEAL.

leona proposes his solution--the oath made by all suitors to defend neige and whoever he chooses if a rival ever takes neige away. they would march against the offender and destroy their city.

neige's parents are like damn thats brilliant and then talk to eric and crewel. who put forth a test for leona to pass. he does.

they marry, leona's wedding gift to vil, the living olive tree bed he makes himself, and they have jack and epel, idk how, surrogates? adoption? not sure. but then, the apple, neige is taken away, and that oath comes back to bite leona in the ass. he pretends he's crazy to dodge the draft but baby jack gets tossed in front of the plough and leona saves them, and is forced to go to war etc etc. they win, and then it takes him FOREVERRRR to get home, and then--well we know how it goes!

altan isn't a violent person at his core it was just what other people have always seen him as because he's speerly, and for some reason the speerlies have a savage connotation when we have no proof that they were actually animals in the sense that other people keep describing them as. im sure that we only get the savage speerly stereotype because as a people, they were fundamentally different from the nikara and the mugenese. and since they were all (mostly) dead at the start of book one, who was going to negate all of these stereotypes? no one. (i could go on about how altan was slapped with the "last speerly" moniker when in reality he probably remembers very little about his culture and what speer was like before all of the war and the death but that's for another time <3)

even back in his days of sinegard altan isnt depicted as a particularly violent person, though he's placed in violent events. like in the fighting pits at night altan is pitted up against his peers who want to fight him at a chance at victory, to prove that they've won a battle against the last speerly and we have no idea if altan actually wants to fight them or if he's forced to (iirc it's highly suggested that irjah baits him into fighting by promising him opium if he wins, and he will, because he always does) (although that could've just been nezha being a dick) and even though altan shows no signs of violence or aggression (he's always depicted as calm, stoic, etc) he's always painted as something less than human, an animal simply because ??? he wins their fights? as if that's not something he's expected to do in the first place. ("how did he do that? isn't he human?" "he isn't, he's speerly" this quote. ARGHARAGH RABAN ILY BUT SHUT UPPP)

and back to the stereotypes of speerlies and why they're painted as rabid animals even though there's no proof that they are. the main thing i can think of rn is how the federation (+ the mugenese) think of them simultaneously as something divine and to be studied but also as these rabid beasts at the same time. like the federation soldiers are clearly afraid of fire / the speerlies (i have a separate hc that their culture has something to do with this but that is also for another time <3) shiro mentions how precious and important the speerlies are (and yet his people bombed altan's? ://) while taking every opportunity he can to pick altan apart. then people wonder why altan's vicious towards the federation and hates them with every fiber of his being and why he has so much pent-up anger within him and it's like, hello?? they took him captive when he was a child, and sent him to the laboratory with shiro where he would spend half of his life being cut open and dissected, injected with opium time and time again, forced to watch his people die off one by one without the knowledge that he was the last until after he'd been rescued. (this still gets me btw no im not in tears) and then even when he's out, his suffering isn't over, (it's never over lets be real) because he's shipped off to sinegard academy where he'll be surrounded by so many different conflicting stereotypes (the nikara think he's an animal because he's speerly but shiro thought he was amazing because he was speerly, because of his connection to the phoenix) and really, he's not violent, not at his core, but i cant imagine the inner turmoil altan went through his first few years out of the lab + his first year at sinegard where he was the only one who was different (and also fighting an opium addiction at the same time and people belittle him over this when it literally wasn't his fault)

like altan was not violent. he was calm and he had his moments of peace, but ultimately because of everything that had happened to him (cough. shiro u motherfucker), the violence was forced out of him and became all he knew ("chaghan said they trained you like a dog at the academy" ://) and he literally didn't know any better, he was failed by every single person who should have helped him. (never getting over this btw)

yin riga, a man who he trusted, sent him away to shiro. (will never not think of how much little five year old altan trusted riga and then. well.) jiang, who was supposed to help him with his connection to the phoenix, shunned him. irjah, who was his supposed caretaker, who only fed his opium addiction in order to control him, just like how shiro did, just like how the nikara did to the speerlies (parallels. yaaay.)

kobd: the wildbreak theory

So, let it be known Mercy loves this piece of shit show - only for the Stunticons and specifically Wildbreak 

He’s my favorite character ever, only because every time i see him i go: “omg same” 

HOWEVER, the Wildbreak appreciation post comes later - I got some damning proof this fucker is a KOBD child.

This is fucking long. And only me being obsessed would produce this masteriece.

Buckle up BUCKAROOS- 

So, to begin. 

The famous fan theory in Transformers is that Wildbreak is the love child of Breakdown and Knockout from TFP. 

It’s so popular that everytime you see domestic KOBD art, there’s a good chance a tiny little Wildbreak is in there. 

Usually comes from the fact that TF:RID 2015 is a sequel series to TFP, as well as Wildbreak has an image likened to both of them. He is a Stunticon like Breakdown, but has similarities to Knockout. blah blah, someone already made a shorter post that explains the appearance factor- 

HOWEVER MORE EVIDENCE- I have it. 

Let’s talk about Wildbreak’s Weapon. 

Cutie pie does not get a lot of screen time, in fact, all he gets is five episodes he appears in and one dedicated to him and Dragstrip mainly.

So this episode is all we get of him + Dragstrip + Dragbreak 

In the ep, Dragstrip and Wildbreak stole Windblade’s weapon stash and are being chased down by Bee and the gang. They only get one fight scene and its as Dragbreak [Wildbreak/Dragstrip combined]. 

So when I saw that Dragbreak had a weapon in the form of a HAMMER ON A STICK - I thought huh, sounds too good to be true.

Because isnt it funny that KOBD weapon combo would be a hammer on a stick.

I even looked into the older G1 Stunticons for further reference and saw that all Stunticons had guns p much, especially Dragstrip. And I looked at G1 Wildrider and Breakdown since thats where Wildbreak’s namesake came from and...they both have guns. No hammer or staff. Which means-

Hello!! We’ve really been enjoying your fic and wanted to ask a few things, and ramble :p

1. Were there any works (be it original fiction or fanfics) that inspired Playback? Because the SI ‘genre’ (don’t have a better word for it haha) is very broad and well tread and we find your exploration of it very interesting.

2. We were actually somewhat wary of the idea of Freeze Frame for half a second but the way you’re able to utilize it in the narrative is very interesting and well thought out, it balances out well with the characters. But to get to the point: How did the balance out the technique with the story so well?

SI-ya is a very enjoyable character! Don’t know why but we read him as a very flat affected midwestern guy, with the type of accent you’d hear from Michigan/Indiana.

aaah what a sweet ask ! i'll endeavour to answer it all as best as i can, i love answering these sorts of meta questions they're a real treat for me !!! also its late and im up for my unstoppable editing a chapter at 3am grind so this may not be super coherent and its way too long sorryyyy

1. in regards to other fics - i'm admittedly more a 'time travel fix-it' guy than a SI-genre guy! they so rarely ever click with me in a way i enjoy, and im always sad when the SI isnt like, a fleshed out OC with their own history and whatnot. the only one i can think of that i really enjoyed was cleaning crew ! but i found the JJK fandom played around with them in really fun ways to me (even if i haven't had a ton of time to read a lot).

the tag on playback that denotes it came to me in a dream isn't a joke - i stayed up till like 5am reading all of a gentler world in one sitting, and had the most vibrant dream ive had in months, which the base plot of later became playback.

said dream will one day be written out when it isn't a major spoiler. lmao.

but @ the oc-focus bit, it may be more apt to say i draw off of other time-travel media in how the narrative interacts with the character - a study of resonance and a shot in the dark are some different-fandom favourites of mine that probably influenced me in some way shape or form, and pokemon mystery dungeon: explorers of sky shaped my brain in a way i will never recover from.

2. when it comes to balance, a part of it is very centered in like ... approach, for me. SIya is by nature a thoughtful character who approaches things methodically, and while i started with a very faint idea for freeze frame i let the drawbacks of it come to me as i fleshed him out - drawbacks that would be actual drawbacks catered to the character, and ones he may eventually be able to use to his own benefit. he's the type of smart guy who could probably find some use in its increased resistance and lack of air circulation, but he's also the type of guy to be constantly exhausted because he pushes himself to his limits constantly. he feels responsible for the whole world, and i wanted freeze frame as an ability to both enable and worsen that feeling. the character himself is also a counter to it - he's not the sort to use it wildly or irresponsibly in the way others might. its balanced with the story because it IS the story! SIya the oc and SIya the character themes are inseparable from freeze frame and the story is built for that.

3. midwestern SIya is so funny. everyone ive talked to pictures him with an entirely different accent but all agree he sounds super flat and like. average. its hysterical to me. real bland energy that transcends language. average generic guy voice

i'm really glad people enjoy it so much! i really wasnt at all expecting this much feedback and it's super motivating. it's been nice to have something to focus on aside from the upcoming storm ;w; with any luck, everything will be fine and i'll come back swinging with like 8 new chapters

uhh it was kinda not that bad

in the morning it was kinda cold outside but it was nice and i went to school

and then i had a terrible headache during chemistry, my vision was blurry and i kinda had to rest my head and take various painkillers (oops) but i stayed in the lesson because i didn't want to go to the nurses and tell them i brough painkillers to school (i think it isnt allowed)

then we had band practice! (with clover and matthias and another friend) it was quite nice with silly random songs :))

we also had sports and i am the most insufferably competitive person ever, but also the least confident person ever so uh, even tho i was quite decent at the sport i didn't volunteer to start the round (i can't lie i think we would've gotten in the top 4 if we did do that...? maybe?)

and like halfway through i kinda got a panic attack... yay... and i just ran off after the semi finals and hid in a place for 15 mins to chill the fuck out (would recommend walking in squares and breathing to calm self down) before going to find my friends (i kinda went like i could not really talk and was trapped in my head just my head shouting at each other about how everything was not my fault but also my fault for thinking i would've done any better than the others, so uh, couldn't talk for about half an hour, which happens sometimes anyways)

and then i was with my girlfriend for a bit :))) and i felt much better when i was with them (thank you mattie) and yeah :))) way better after that (he's so amazing istg :)))

but uh i had to go home and meet my dad (he doesn't live with us) and that wasn't... great? I mean i always feel bad when I meet him but i feel bad about feeling bad? because he hasnt actually done anything wrong (if his version of what happened was the truth)

but yeah now im just in my bed and finishing watching a video :))

where do you get the money to make your cosplays?? i'm in the middle of crafting a bunch of stuff for a plant convention and gyatt damn everythings so pricey

along with the storage ive been getting this one a bunch too haha

to tell true, this is no fault on your part so no frets here at all !!! BUT i'm not comfortable discussing my personal finances online. because on a wide scale, anything in regards to money gets incredibly niche to a person's circumstances and will make people get upset/can leave you vulnerable to a lot of bad things. My pay scale and spending habits are not something i'm hip to sharing online since its really private and opens a lot of dangerous doors. (also my spending habits are not exactly healthy or generalizable either.) I'm not saying this to like...dodge being a secret billionaire or anything, but even if i say "i work a STEM job" I've had people get weird about even just that information.

That being said, there are ways i make cosplay more affordable.

usually in-store fabric shopping at say joanns, is just about as expensive as it gets. if you have to shop only at joanns, michaels, etc the bill racks up fast. There are some in-store fabric shops that are cheaper, especially if they are wholesalers or general fabric warehouses, but those are not easy to find outside of cities most often. Joanns does have good coupons, and i can only shop at joanns these days if i have a coupon or there's a sale on that fabric type i'm interested in!

online wholesale fabric shops are a good way to find fabrics that are at lower prices, but then it does incur extra shipping costs. because of that i try to limit the number of orders I make (more orders, more extra shipping). this looks like grouping orders between projects, or even compromising on fabric types based on the stock of one website so i dont have to split an order between two sites.

sometimes you really do have to sacrifice material type. theres been a number of projects this year that i wanted to make out of a nicer type of fabric, even Thistle for example i considered making out of a dupioni, but it was just too dang expensive. dupioni would be around $25 a yard...vs poly suede which is $6. or even a cheaper satin at $3 a yard is a common sub i use as well. I also very frequently have to throw out entire cosplay ideas just based on cost since its just not feasible no matter how many compromises i make.

reduce the burden by extending your timeline. unfortunately theres no way around it, most projects i make are $200-300, and thats....fairly low in the grand scheme of things for crafting-focused cosplayers on mid sized projects. but either way, dropping all of that at once in one place is a huge blow to the wallet. but if you break up that whole $200 cost into say...$20 chunks from one week to the next, its softer. if you cant or dont want to reduce your budget, expanding your timeline is a good solution. now granted, that does cause a problem with the whole "less orders means less shipping costs" but the weighing of those two scenarios has to be done person to person/project to project.

STOCKING UP....when there are sales or other things, building a horde can be a great move. like silverbell didnt actually show up much on my finances this month because all the fabric i used on his suit was storage fabric. so it was ""free"" to me this month, because i already bought it.....3 years ago...and that money isnt real anymore haha.

this is really regional and depends on where you are, but thrift stores can have material sections that have good fabrics as well as sheets/blankets/base garments etc. ive been weirdly lucky with finding great fabrics at thrift stores...like literal joanns fabric for half the cost there, but thats super SUPER hit or miss and not something i rely on, but i do check that section whenever i'm there

hi hi flirty husband anon once again can’t sleep and am thinking about them and how desperately i wish canon showed more casual sweet moments later on because I think the juxtaposition of the dramatic nature of their relationship and kisses in the first half of the show with the comfortable, safer, more settled nature of the later seasons would just be so good. Like don’t get me wrong, I love everything we did get but I would pay good money for Mickey to kiss his husbands forehead when his husband isnt low or Ian to hug him outside of the comforting in the last episode. But anyway enough complaining i am thinking about KISSES and all the small and sweet ones and how I bet the first few times Ian kissed Mickeys cheek he had to psyche himself up first and was sooo 😳🦋😌 afterwards and now its just like HE GETS TO DO THAT EVERYDAY!!! TO HIS HUSBAND!!!! FOREVER!!!! and Mickey will still sometimes get that dazed look in his eyes or pull back blushing but for the most part he just smiles up at Ian and then goes back to whatever hes doing. Oh and we were also robbed of nose kisses and Ian scrunching his face and smiling so big and stupid when Mickey leans up to kiss his nose. Also I have already brought this up but it is because i know in my soul that Ian is always kissing Mickey’s stomach and when they were younger Mickey would pull back and hint at ian to move somewhere else because shit that feels weird and is too gentle in a way that makes his skin burn but later when they are married Ian will kiss all over his tummy and sides and Mickey will just giggle a bit and repeat Ian’s name because its ticklish and maybe also kick his feet a bit but never push Ian away and enjoy smiling and laughing and being silly with his husband okay exiting my soapbox now good night take care 💛

Tbh an expert isnt even needed for colours and designs. We get it Kate’s looks aren’t priority this season but at least use google??? This also just shows they don’t know the bare minimum especially when they don’t know the difference between a dupatta and what Sarees are. Huge difference bro.

Thank god for all the other fugly looks this season (sorry but I’m not a fan) because if they kept everything the same and changed it up for Kate that’s weirdly alienating. You don’t have to make it so obvious she’s not English. They were on the right track last season imo. The dresses were western enough to suit Bridgertons aesthetic but also had the nice amount of Indian/South Asian flair. Literally all of those dresses I could easily remake by going to frantic stores in India.

I don’t really see a lot of Indian influence in the clothes right now. Sure we’ve only seen three outfits? But they’ve all been trash sorry. And post spice comment that reddish make out dress makes me think tandoori masala. Kate is a snack and a half (Anthony would know) but I’m sure that’s not what they were aiming for. The colours aren’t it. And nothing in the designs screams Indian either. It just looks bargain bin fabric.

The biggest issues for me is that they don’t suit Kate’s (Simone) skin tone? I’ve only seen gori gori Indian girls wear such neutral tones and look good. Simone looks great but she’s look way better in colours that were bolder. Nor is it culturally appropriate considering Kate’s young and newly married and usually brides wear bold and bright colours. Not neutral tones. Using jewel tones was 🤌🏽 and they should stuck to it. God what I wouldn’t do to have that Sheffields dinner dress Kate wears.

Let’s see what the other looks in the season are like for Kate. I’m not too optimistic but I guess shitty fashion is the compromise I need to make to get three seconds of kanthony time.

1- HMMMM, that is tricky, cause like Blue would either win or be first out depending on her energy and if she wants to do it KJD;SGJKA otherwise, I think Grey and Bullet may be first out- Grey is a bit too nice and Bullet is clumsy DAKJG then it would prob be Max and the rest of the Boys, Max is too cocky, Logan is also a bit clumsy and a lil too safe, and Tyler, Tyler is just participating he'll be dramatic as hell once he's shot LKAJS;FGAJ who would probably win in that case has to be Amy, she's the most chaotic and energetic one here (she would 100% climb trees or hide on/behind rocks and ambush people) but thats only if Blue doesn't have the energy, if she does, everyones doomed DASJG

2- Max does indeed have bio parents! As of right now, I currently have no plans for them to show up? That could change however, but he was abandoned by them and thats why he lived on the streets for a bit. Thats also why Max steals a lot and stashes things in random places cause thats what he had to do live. Sometimes tho, being a child, he would steal stuff that caught his eye too; got him caught eventually. But yeayea, his parents abandoned him! So idk if they'd come back, I'd have to ponder on that

3- I'll give you two facts! Her and Lavender are step-sisters! Lavender's dad and Blackberry's mom got together, Blackberry wasn't too fond of Lavender at first? overall ? i loved this quest. might be one of my favourites simply because of the emotions that can be felt when playing this and honestly? this is one of the reasons why i love this game so much. the writing and story are just so heartfelt and really strike a chord
