GUARDIAN ANGEL

masterlist.
"Are we sure that compass even works?" Asked Tamar swaying from side to side due to the heavy rain and storm they were passing through. "It points to what the holder wants most. I think the instructions are pretty clear," Nikolai's attention only being on the compass. It's arrow spinning from one direction to another.
"You are going to crash the ship," yelled Mal as he fell down sliding to the other end of the ship. "Don't worry we're almost there," and then he let go of the wheel entirely. Tolya grabbed it but as if they'd entered another dimension. The storm was nowhere in site and not that far away, an island.
"See, I was right," as he said that the ship hit something causing him to fall overboard. He tried to swim up but the waves kept crashing in on him. He could hear people yelling for him and orders being thrown around. They turned incoherent as he sunk deeper.
He felt two hands taking hold of his arms as he was lifted out of the water in seconds. Once he managed to open his eyes, he was miles from the ship. He wanted to turn and see his saviour. "Don't strain your body too much, just relax your safe," he heard the most angelic voice say.
In a blink of an eye his feet met the sand. He coughed up what felt like half the ocean. When he turned to thank his saviour they were nowhere to be seen. Had he imagined it? Then he saw it, his ship being attacked by sire
But he could not help his crew. If he even attempted to swim to them, he would be instantly attacked. His gun was wet, so it was useless, and what could he do with a sword. All he could do was watch and hope they make it.
Most of the crew was alright. No deaths but they had to dry dock the ship, as going in the row boats would have been a death wish. Now, they had to find the chalices. "Captain," Tamar handed him a spyglass. Looking through it he saw Second Army flags. The Darkling was here or his grisha were.
"How did they get here before us?" Alina asked bewildered. "It doesn't matter we just need to get the chalices before them," he really should have better timing. "Hand over the map," the Darkling appeared, along with his forces. "There's no map," Nikolai replied, confidence radiating off of him in waves.
Then one by one his grisha disappeared until he was the only one left standing. "You and what army," Kirigan looks behind himself. Worry coating his face but then he smirked. "I don't need an army," as he raised his hands the sand beneath his feet disappeared. He dropped down into the newly formed puddle like it was a slide.
"Well, that happened," all anyone could do was nod along to Mal's statement. As they continued on following the compass, it seemed to lead them in circles. "I think your magic compass stopped working," Alina gave him a sympathetic look. "We have more company. Tamar reported seeing Fjerdan and Shu ships," great just what they needed.
"We still need the two chalices. Let me give that map a try," Mal took the map from Nikolai. The map was written in a language no one could understand. It wasn't in Fjerdan, Kerch, Ravkan, Shu, Zemeni, Suli, or even Old Ravkan. But now that they were actually on the island, they could at least recognise the landmarks drawn. Mal's tracking skill would finally come in handy.
After spending hours walking, they've decided to make camp and rest for a bit. They couldn't let the Fjerdans or the Shu be the first to discover the secret to the fountain. As Nikolai was starting to close his eyes, he heard a splash of water near him. He looked to where he assumed the sound came from and was met with the most beautiful pair of eyes.
Was this the person that saved him? He couldn't be sure. He slowly moved towards the person, worried that any sudden movement might scare them away. "I am not some kind of rabid animal," that voice, his guardian angel. "Your friends are on the west side," you could mean the Fjerdans or the Shu.
"They're not our friends," you sent him a sceptical look. He suddenly remembered why they were on this island in the first place. "You wouldn't know where someone could leave two chalices around here, would you?" At this point Nikolai was fully laying down in the mud that surrounded the pot of water.
His face inches away from it. "Hypothetically, I would know where something like that could be hidden." He smiled and then asked. "Hypothetically, could you show me?" You disappeared, only to emerge a few seconds later. Slowly moving closer to him as he had done only minutes ago.
What you did next was a surprise but not an unwelcome one. You kissed him. It was slow at first, as if giving him the chance to pull away if he so wishes. Instead he placed his palm on the back of your head. Pulling you as close as he can and uped the ferocity of the kiss. You placed your fingers at the bottom of his chin.
Putting slight pressure on it, due to this he opened his mouth. You quickly slipped your tongue in. He felt something foreign enter his system. You quickly pulled away and submerged yourself, only the top part of your face could be seen. Watched him swallow whatever you had just given him. I really hope I don't die from this.
You made a motion with your hand for him to enter the water. Waited for him, as he took off his jacket and shoes. His feet were searching for the bottom of the pond or whatever it was. He felt a hand grab his foot and pull him into the water. "You're taking too long," he realised he could breathe underwater. You gently grabbed his waist and he placed his arm around your neck.
He finally saw your tail. You were a siren. He was so gonna die but why had you saved him and why were you helping him now. He had too many questions. None of which he could ask. As soon as he had entered the water he was out of it. In Front of him was a ship, but none of the text in any language he knew. It did match the art on the map.
"Thank you," you nodded with a smile on your face. He walked closer to the ship. It was suspended in mid air. Wedged in between two huge pieces of stone. How could he get up there?
He finally entered the ship with your help and a lot of trial and error. Each step on the deck was taken with extreme consideration as one wrong move could send the ship falling. Even if the ship seemed to have been here for years with the plants that have taken over the deck. Nikolai didn't want to take any chances.
As he descended down to the lower levels of the ship, he was greeted with copious amount of dust and rot....and gold? But he had little care for it. Maybe after they find the fountain of youth, he could bring some of that gold back to Ravka. One room in the ship was clearly meant for dining. The table comfortably fit nine people.
The seats were filled with skeletons. The stench of the rotten food and empty glasses of wine could signify that these people were poisoned. The ship without a crew was probably left to roam the sea and had met its journey's end. Crashing into the rocks. Or maybe all of them have been stabbed, who knows.
The chalices were nowhere to be found. He went searching different rooms until he reached the captain's quarters. In the middle of the room the captain was sitting a skeleton like the rest of the crew but on the bed next to him a chest. Nikolai made his way to the bed as he did the ship swinged and then the voices came.
He wasn't alone anymore but he recognised one of them as Zoya. He needed to work faster. He got to the chest but it was locked. Nikolai could hear the voices getting closer. The key was laying on the chain around the captain's neck. Unlocking the chest and...nothing, just some documents. Where could the chalises be? He looked in the drawers, desk and finally under the bed.
There was another chest, this one without a lock in it, the chalices inside. Then the door burst open. "Hand them over," before he could think or even form a plan the ship was falling. When he awoke he was tied up, next to him, Zoya. The flags were the first thing he'd recognised, Shu. The second one, that they were tied to a tree. "Finally, the sleeping beauty's awake," one of the guards said.
Whatever they'd done to Zoya, she'd seen better days. Cuts were littering her face and bruises were starting to form. "The others," he'd simply asked. "Probably dead." The guards had left their posts to fetch their superior. In the corner of his eye, Nikolai could see something being thrown next to his feet. A knife, he quickly picked it up and placed it near his hands. Cutting himself and Zoya lose.
"We need to plan our next steps carefully since we don't have our weapons," just as he said that his and what he assumes is Zoya's sword were thrown out of the water. If she had found the ordeal weird, she didn't mention it, just grabbed her sword. "This way, I saw them place the rest of the weapons there."
They managed to escape the camp unseen. "I will let you go but the next time we meet, you won't be given the same courtesy," with that she disappeared in the forest.
The chalices weren't with the weapons. The Shu must have taken them. Then out of nowhere Tamar, Alina, Mal and Tolya come charging past Nikolai. Tamar carrying one chalice while Mal carries the other. "Sturmhond," Alina says just realising he was even there. "Run," yells Tamar as she grabs him.
Then he sees it, the Darkling and his volcra. His feet do the rest as he joins the group running. Hoping to lose him in the woods. "What happened?"
"What happened? Where were you? You left and didn't even tell anyone," Alina retorts.
"I got a lead to where the chalices might be."
"But WE found the chalices."
"And WE are going to lose them if you two don't shut it," Toyla interrupted, silencing them both as they hid. Once they saw the Darkling walk pass. They slowly walk in the other direction. "Where did you find them?"
"Near the entrance to some caves but that was nowhere close to where it had been marked on the map," Mal said in disbelief.
"Let me guess there was a river or some pond close by," Nikolai asked. Mal nodded. "But how could you know, it wasn't marked on the map." Nikolai shrugged. You must have taken them and brought them to his crew. "Now, we just need to find the entrance to the fountain," water splashed nearby. "Give me one moment," he said to the rest of them as he took the map and walked towards the water.
Tamar and Alina followed him. He kneeled down. "Yes," he asked, looking at the water. You slowly lifted your head and swam to where he was kneeling. He held up the map. Mal and Toyla joined the rest. Alina lifted her palms up as Toyla readied his weapon. "You are here and the entrance is here," now they could see the scales coating your arms, along with the tail.
All of them were thinking the same. You're a siren and you're helping them.

Everyone is so upset with inej's hallucination? I've seen a lot of people saying that it was one dimensional, and that it undermined her trauma, but it didn't? She wasn't having a nightmare like kaz or tolya, she was having a dream like jesper, and that dream was deeply rooted in her trauma, but more than that it was cemented in the fact that inej never let her trauma define her like kaz did, instead she was defined by her desire to heal, and her desire for kaz to heal with her. For her. And her dream shows that. They both take off their armor, Kaz and his gloves, Inej and her knives. And then Kaz ASKS PERMISSION before touching her, in a way that no man ever has before and when she let's him, he just holds her. That isn't out of character for inej,
one of her biggest dreams was always kaz being close to her. It's not surprising or one dimensional for her to dream of kaz taking off his armor, and making an effort to bridge the distance between them, all while respecting her own boundaries and trauma, it's a very in character dream, and with how self aware and grounded in herself and the reality of her situation inej is in the books, it's also very in character that she realizes quickly that it isn't real. Better terrible truths than kind lies. If all you saw was a throwaway dismissal of inej and her character outside of being a love interest to kaz, it's you who's looking at it one dimensionally.

Shadow and bone was canceled and I don’t know how to cope with that. Might rob a top security prison or something. It’s the only way I’ll get to see anything close to the ice court heist now.

safe harbor- tolya yul-bataar x reader
You dream about losing him more than you used to.
Monsters made of shadows and dusty blue light seem to seep into the alleyways of your sleeping mind.
In the kinder dreams, he is already dead when you arrive, eyes lifeless and weapon laying in uncurled hands.
In worse ones, he is still alive, held up several feet in the air, shadows wrapped tightly around his neck.
He has already dropped his weapon, clawing at the shadow suffocating him, trying to get it to let him go.
Before he dies, he looks at you desperately and as soon as you move to try and help, the monster crushes his throat in one sickening snap.
You snapped awake, nearly falling out of the hammock from sitting up so quickly, the stale air of the inside of the ship suffocating.
Above deck, in the early morning light, you feel yourself begin to breathe again, your fists clenched and your nails digging into your skin- he’s alive. It was a bad dream, just like the dream from the night before, and the night before that.
”You’re up early.” Inej said and you coughed in surprise, choking on air.
“Yeah, sorry, you… Saints, you're good at that.”
She offered you a kind smile before taking a place by your side, overlooking the sea.
“Is everything alright?” She asked and you remembered to unfurl your fists, marks left on your skin from your nails.
“Yeah, just… just a bad dream.” You said, shaking your head.
Even in her silence, you could tell that she wanted to pry, but that she wouldn’t if you said nothing else about it.
“I get it,” She settled for instead.
“The bad dreams or the not talking about it?”
Her head snapped towards yours and she gave you another smile- less kind, but more genuine.
“Both.” She said, your gaze lingering on her as she turned back towards the sea. “I know it means very little, but if you ever want to talk about it…”
“Thank you.”
“You’re up already?” Tolya asked and you whipped around, smiling at him as he approached the two of you. “Is everything okay?”
“Mhm, perfect now that you’re here.” You replied easily and he pulled you into a hug and you felt the anxiety you had been struggling with moments ago melt away in his arms.
(If he clocks the anxiety or the relief you feel, he doesn’t say anything. He just holds you.)
After a couple seconds, he let go, pulling a couple inches away from you.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
You offered him your most reassuring smile before nodding.
“I’m okay, I promise.”
Your heart beats steadily as you tell him this.
You don’t think you’re lying.
—
Familiar hallways greet you, saturation drained out of the walls and the air.
Your feet are already moving, carrying you to a place you’ve been a hundred times before.
When you arrive, the door is locked. You can hear the twins fighting inside.
You try the door- locked, no luck. You slam on it, fists pounding against wood.
“Tolya!” You screamed. “Tamar!”
The sounds of them fighting are bad enough, but it’s worse when they go silent.
The door cracks open- Tamar is already dead, blood blossoming from her skull.
Tolya is still alive, barely.
“This… is your fault.” He said, his voice barely above a whisper as blood spilled out of his mouth.
Tears welled in your eyes as you kneeled besides him.
“I tried to come in, I tried to help.” You said, voice faltering.
Tolya looked up at you.
“You’ve never been a very good liar.”
It’s the last thing he says before he falls limp in your arms, his blood staining your skin and in your hands, a knife driven into his heart.
You shuttered and clambered away from him, your hands shaking as you examined them.
You killed him, you killed both of them, you-
“You’re okay, I promise you’re okay, everything is okay.”
It’s Tolya’s voice and soft reassurances that pull you out of your dreams, his hands on your shoulders.
You pushed him away, struggling to catch your breath and calm yourself.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t…”
“It’s okay.” He said, no hurt in his voice. “May I?”
You looked at him and nodded.
He placed his hands over your heart and began to slow your heart down, bringing it back to a normal rhythm.
Panic and adrenaline subsided and with it, you felt yourself begin to cry.
“Let’s go above deck, get some fresh air, yeah?” He asked with infinite patience and you nodded, letting him lead you.
The sun hadn’t even appeared in the horizon yet, but the sky was turning a shade of light azure, the moon just about to set and the sun just about to rise.
“You’ve been having a lot of bad dreams lately.” Tolya said, more a matter of fact than a question. You nodded. “You know you can talk to me about them. I don’t think it’s doing you any good just keeping it bottled up.”
You sniffed.
“I know. I just… I thought they’d stop, the further from Ravka we got. But it’s all I dream about, the nichevo'ya and them hurting you.” You said, you’d voice breaking. “I’m so afraid of something happening to you. There was a time I wasn’t afraid of anything.”
He paused, considered this before he took your hands, fingers interlocking with yours, anchoring you to the world.
“I can’t promise you that nothing bad will ever happen.” He said, his eyes focused on your hands. “What I can promise, is that come what may, we will face it together. I love you.”
You nodded slightly, your hands holding onto his tightly.
“I love you too.” You said softly and even the mere whisper of the words was enough to drive away the shadows, at least for now.

Dance With Me
Summary: Nina forces you to come to a ball with her, and soon finds out why you didn’t want to be there in the first place.
Nina Zenik x fem!Kostyk!Reader
Warnings: Stressful social setting
Note: In this, pretend Nina never went to Fjerda in KoS. This is a little before those events, but definitely after Nikolai renounced his title as Sturmhond. And you’re a Durast, just so you know. And slightly neurodivergent. Very slightly.
———
You were quietly minding your own business at the Little Palace, helping some younger Fabrikators with their abilities. Your teacher had assigned them to you earlier that week, knowing you could help them as much as possible, with your never-ending patience and calming demeanour.
All of a sudden, Nina burst into the room, frightening you and one of the other children, who accidentally threw the metal ball he was practising with at you with his power.
“Saints alive-“ you wheezed, holding your side where the object had collided with you. “Um- why don’t you go there in the corner and practise hand movements, hm?”
“Sorry, Y/n…” the boy said sheepishly. You smiled and patted his head before he ran off to join his friends on the other side of the room.
“Nina,” you breathed out, looking at her practically vibrating with excitement. “What was so important that you had to burst in so…loudly?”
She was clutching a letter in her hands and squealed, “Nikolai’s planned a ball for absolutely no reason!”
“Lovely for you,” you smiled and kissed her forehead. “Forgive my asking, but…what does that have to do with me?”
“He’s invited you, me, Tamar, Nadia, Zoya, and the others, so you have got to come with me!” She giggled.
Your heart dropped to your knees at the very thought of going to a ball, where people danced expertly, knew how to woo a lady, and definitely didn’t step on their partner’s toes while waltzing.
“Um…my love, may we discuss this a little later?” You asked, looking around the room, any where but at her.
“Of course,” she smiled. “Is everything okay?”
“Yes, yes,” you smiled. “It’s all good, just…I need to think it over.”
“Lovely!” She clapped her hands joyfully and pressed a gentle kiss to your lips, which was punctuated by a dragged out ‘ew’ from the children.
Nina laughed and nodded, mouthing, ‘I should go,’ before squeezing your hand and going out.
Later that evening, you were, again, minding your own business after having returned to the royal palace, when she burst in yet again, making you almost upset your ink bottle over the paper you were writing on.
“My-my dear, if you could just knock before entering it would be far better-“ you laughed nervously, pushing your chair back as she planted herself on your lap. Your arms instinctively wrapped around her waist, and you leaned up, kissing her cheek before smiling.
“Did you think it over?” She asked, leaning into your touch as you rested your cheek against the back of her shoulder.
You sighed, “I did, and I don’t- I don’t think I want to go…”
“Why not?” She asked, and you could practically hear her pout. “It’s a lovely evening to go for! There’s dancing, there’s music, there’s food…”
“Um…I think we can get that at any posh place in the city,” you admitted. “I just…I don’t want to go.”
“But darling, please,” she whined, turning so that her lower back rested against the edge of your table. Her arms looped around your neck as her soft green eyes met your e/c ones. “I really want to go with you! It’s been ages since we last went to an event together!”
You sighed and gave in, “Alright, but I will not dance.”
She gasped, “But why?!”
“I draw the line at dancing, my dear,” you said. “Please let it be enough that I agree to go.”
She decided not to press the matter further, and smiled brightly, her eyes grinning and her entire face lighting up. “I love you,” she said, before leaning down to kiss your lips gently.
“And I, you,” you said softly, smiling against her lips.
—Time Skip—
The day of the ball came faster than expected, and you were a nervous wreck as you and the others got ready for the festivities.
“What’s got you all jittery, Y/n?” Zoya asked, raising an eyebrow. “You’re trembling like a leaf in a storm.”
“Zoya, have you met Y/n?” Nadia laughed. “She’s like her brother, she hates social gatherings like these.”
“So she’s a little baby,” Tamar joked, poking you in the side playfully.
“Don’t be mean, now,” Genya chided them all as she tailored her hair a little redder. “Y/n just finds them mildly uncomfortable. As does David.”
“No, no, I agree with them,” you nodded, pulling on the jacket which went with your suit. “I hate social gatherings.”
“Nina, how is it that you fell in love with her?” Zoya laughed, braiding her hair so she could twist it into a bun. “She’s the exact opposite of you.”
“What can I say? I’ve got a thing for the quiet ones,” Nina giggled, coming over and kissing your cheek. “Lace me up, would you darling?”
You were already fidgety, and thankfully, lacing up your girlfriend’s dress helped quite a bit. “I was bullied into attending,” you admitted, earning a laugh from all of them. Confusion shadowed over your face as you frowned a little, “Why is that funny?”
“It just is, N/n,” Tamar ruffled your hair, earning a disgruntled noise from you as you gently pushed her hand away.
“I will…um…check on the boys,” you nodded, “Yes, I’ll go check on them.”
You hurried out of the room before anyone could stop you, counting your steps as you went to Nikolai’s massive dressing room, knowing it was precisely 203 steps away from Zoya’s, where you had been a moment ago.
You entered after knocking, and sat down on a small chair right beside a mirror.
“We’re the girls teasing you again?” Nikolai chuckled as he put his white shirt on. “Or were you just coming to visit?”
“I don’t know what they were doing, actually,” you frowned. “But I do know I don’t want to go to the ball.”
“Then don’t go,” Tolya said as if it was he most obvious thing in the world as he combed his hair back. Ball or not, he was still dressing as sharply as a soldier.
“You see, as a fact, Nina does not really enjoy missing any social gathering,” you said. “And I, on the other hand, would rather die than go to one.”
Nikolai began to wear his tie and laughed, “Am I really such a nuisance for organising these gatherings that you would rather die than attend them?”
“No, I-“ you paused, analysing his statement. “Was that a joke?”
“Yes, Y/n, yes it was,” he grinned, also ruffling your hair.
“Why does everyone keep doing that?” You mumbled, fixing your hair again.
“I agree with my sister,” came your brother’s similarly quiet voice. “I cannot say I enjoy being at such big events.”
“I’d rather be building something,” you nodded, to which David made a noise of agreement.
“Well, I can’t say you can just disagree with what Nina and Genya have said,” Tolya shrugged. “I have seen the two of them. They almost exist only for gatherings.”
“Y/n, you’ve worn something far too drab, did the others say nothing about it?” Nikolai said, looking at you.
You looked at your plain black suit, neatly pressed and creaseless. “What’s wrong with this? It’s my best suit!”
“For a funeral, maybe,” Interjected Tolya.
“Now you both are bullying me,” you frowned.
Nikolai went to his closet and pulled out a suit which looked far richer than yours, which had a white shirt, white pants, and a coat which had gold buttons all the way down the front. A thick gold border went down the length of it, and to finish it with a slightly feminine look, a delicate, spidery pattern of lace was embroidered onto the cuffs.
“Go on and try it,” Nikolai suggested, giving you the hanger on which it was kept and pushing you towards the changing screen.
You went in and tried it on, it fitting perfectly. The thick, almost kefta-like material of the coat felt nice under your fidgety fingertips, and the soft silk fabric of the shirt was welcoming on your skin. You’d never felt more confident than you did then, standing in a King’s attire.
“Let’s see how it looks, my friend!” Called out Tolya. You emerged from behind the screen, feeling your confidence give a little way for some amount of shyness at the attention.
“Damn,” Nikolai said. “I’d say Nina is going to be very happy.”
“She does say she loves me in blue,” you admitted, your hands already fidgeting with the hem of the coat, feeling the slightly prickly gold border against your fingertips.
“If you like the suit, you can keep it,” Nikolai grinned. “You look absolutely stunning in it. I have to say, you pull it off better than I do.”
You caught your brother’s eye, and he hummed in acknowledgment, nodding his head slightly. You both, even as children, had almost always communicated like this. With subtle hand gestures, eye movements, and nods.
After a little while of chatting, Nikolai exhaled sharply as he dusted off his coat sleeves. “Right, I will be on my way down to welcome the guests.”
“Hooray…” you said, with little enthusiasm. “That was sarcasm, by the way.”
“Well done,” Tolya patted you on the back. “It’s practically impossible to tell.”
You frowned, “Actually, I was being rather obvious about it…”
The giant laughed and led you out, putting an arm around your shoulder. “Never change, Y/n.”
“Um, I’ll go find Nina,” you nodded and walked off.
When your girlfriend saw you in the suit, her jaw dropped. As did everyone else’s in the room.
“I love how you look in blue,” grinned Nina as she ran her hands down your shoulders to your waist.
You smiled slightly and whispered a thank you, blushing a bright red.
“Guys, it’s nearly eight o clock, the guests should be arriving now,” admitted Nadia as she looked at the clock on the wall. She looked at both you and Nina, adding, “Now stop making moon eyes at each other and get your backsides downstairs.”
You nodded as Nina took you by the hand, leading you downstairs, while the others followed suit.
“I’m nervous,” you said.
“Don’t be,” giggled Nina. “It’ll be fun, I promise.”
“I hope that wasn’t a joke…” you mumbled.
The ballroom filled up pretty fast, with the soft music of the band floating through the crowd. Men danced with their ladies in graceful two-steps, otherwise they whirled around in a fast-paced foxtrot. You stood at the end of the dance floor, watching closely while Nina and Nadia danced together, laughing hysterically.
There were too many people, though. Your skin crawled at the sudden thickness of the air, and you couldn’t really process the whole situation entirely. Sounds mashed together, the scent of perfume was choking, and the hum of people talking was getting annoying.
You were immediately broken out of your little freak-out when Nina caught your hand.
“Why is my gorgeous girlfriend standing here, alone, not dancing?” She asked, leaning up to kiss your lips.
“I…” you shook your head and whispered, “I’m just tired.”
“Hm…” she hummed in thought, trying to figure out what was wrong. “Do you mind telling me why you don’t want to dance with me?”
You felt your cheeks burn with embarrassment as you quietly replied, “I don’t know how to dance…”
Her eyes lit up as she held your face in her hands, and a smile tugged at her lips as she chuckled, “Was that all? You could’ve asked me to teach you!”
“I didn’t know how to ask…” you replied sheepishly.
She pulled you onto the dance floor where fewer people were swaying together, and she said, “Put your hand on my waist and hold the other,”
You did just so, and she smiled before guiding you towards doing a box step. You marvelled at how lovely a teacher she was, focusing solely on her voice.
“One, two, three, four, five, six,” you muttered under your breath. Nina laughed and squeezed your hand with hers, trying not to wince when you stepped on her toes with your hard leather shoes.
As the evening ended, you both collapsed into bed, tired for different reasons after having changed int more comfortable attire.
“You stepped more on my feet than you did the floor,” she chuckled.
“I will have you know that I was on beat,” you said. “You had it coming.”
“Well…you weren’t bad,” she nodded. “I must admit.”
You pulled her atop you and hugged her close, whispering, “Thank you for teaching me,”
“No problem, my love,” Nina replied, kissing your cheek. “It’s been a long night…” she sighed, sinking further into your touch.
“We should get some sleep,” you replied, tracing shapes on her back with your fingertips.
So there you both lay together, seeing comfort in each others embrace as the night went by, with its dark blue sky speckled with stars, and the wind blowing silently through the trees in the garden below.

I hope you enjoyed this one! Feel free to request!

Everyone's Fate Is Up To The Saints, Except Hers - Tolya Yul-Bataar
Prompt: “If you wish to keep your fingers, I’d take your hands off her.”
Warnings: Canon Compliant Threat
This is really just a drabble but what can ya do.
Not proofread because "no beta we die like men"
Had anyone asked, Tolya would have made it very clear that he 'never doubted her for a moment', that 'her capability was easily beyond that of the task at hand' and he knew, given the opportunity, 'she would've likely taken it on alone'. But Sturmhond, in a brief moment of clear insight, had drawn the conclusion that Tolya would have been very little help carrying out his duties if his mind had been following someone out on the mission. Waiting, wondering and worrying were three things not very conducive with carrying out duties to their requirement. So Sturmhond sent the both of them. No one questioned him, everyone else because he is the captain, but Tamar because she held the same knowledge that Sturmhond had based his call on: her twin for all his openness and cheer, was not letting on quite how deep the river of his care flowed when it came to one particular crewmate.
The she in question, had picked up a pace while Tolya had been somewhat lost in his thoughts.
"Falling behind there sesh?" You ask, turning around with a wicked grin, continuing to walk in the direction you both were headed, but now watching Tolya instead of the path. Walking backwards was something you had gotten very good at with the years of sword training, if you lean to step back with balance enough times, learning to follow the pattern is easy. Yet now, it was certainly more to show off than for practical use.
"You're still not using that correctly," Tolya smiled, an abundance of laughter in his voice. His shadow was being cast by a far off light and the distance made the silhouette looking deceivingly small, compared to the reality. Tolya was just as tall as he was handsome, which is to say more so than anyone really hard the right to be.
"Well if you gave in and told me the word I am looking for," you tease, the sentence hung in the air, feeling unfinished and incomplete. But the years have taught Tolya that sometimes you spoke in half, and it was up to the one hearing the words to decide if it was their turn.
"I will not teach you words in Shu just so you can mock me," he means the words he is saying but his tone is far from mean.
"I'm not mocking you," you defend. "I'm attempting to describe you."
"Describe me in your own language," he pulls his graze away, hoping that maybe if he stops staring, you might start looking where you're going, but to no avail.
"So you'll read me poetry in a language I do not know, but you shall not teach it to me?"
"Not when I know your interest lies in different intent, if you wish to understand the poem I'll happily explain it-" he is suddenly silence by a quiet and quick whistle, a signal that stops him in his tracks.
You look on edge, looking around the dim lit street with such concentration and apprehension that Tolya notices how small it makes you look, the fear. He isn't used to seeing you look afraid.
"Sorry," you say pulling yourself back in, raning it back and composing yourself. "I didn't mean to interrupt you when it's about poetry."
"I don't take it personally," he says. "You know Tamar well enough."
"Exactly, I try to let you talk about it as much as possible when there is no one to tell you to stop," the comment is offhand and absentminded, you hadn't meant much by it. It was a truth, and you did not choose to shy from the truth often, but it wasn't something you had meant to declare in any kind of way. Yet the look in Tolya's eyes makes you run the words back, trying to find the secret of the universe, the strangely powerful compliment that had to be hidden in the words you'd spoken without a second thought.
"Thank you," he says, his voice so soft, it hits like whisper.
"There's no need, there are few ways to show someone how you matter to them, and this is mine," if you had to break it down, the moments before, the reasons that this moment unfolds, you could lay out each factor in pieces. The light being so low. The quietness being so rare that sound is a welcome visitor and therefore can lull into a false sense of security. Maybe even your own foolishness, having not turned around despite your previous scare. But if you were honest with yourself, truly honest, it was not your ego or your environment that betrayed you in this small moment. It was your heart. Had you not been searching for something tangible in the unspoken distance between the two of you, there was no way someone could have gotten close enough to place a blade into the small of your back before you reached for your weapon.
"I wouldn't try it," the blade is pushed closer as you move for the weapon, the voice is dark and quiet, but the accent isn't from around here, and there's a gruffness that shows the man's age.
"I am guessing you are exactly who we are looking for," you reply. Tolya reached for his own blade the moment the assailant had stepped out of the dark, he holds it tight and his eyes are fixed over your shoulder. "We aren't here for a fight."
"Tell that to your friend," the man replies.
"Tolya," you say calmly. Tolya is reasonable, Tolya is smart and above all Tolya knows better than most, much better than his twin, when there's not a need for a fight. But he doesn't look willing to backdown.
"Perhaps I might be more inclined to step down if you remove the blade from my friends back," Tolya says slowly.
A hand grips your shoulder tight, and the blade moves from your spine to your side. A much more defendable position, but a still a threat. "Better?" The man asks.
"If you wish to keep your fingers, I’d take your hands off her.”
You watch him and your heart, against your practiced calm, races in your chest and his eyes flicker to meet yours. It dawns on you why he hasn't calmed the situation, why he is defensive and not quite like his normal self. He senses your confusion, your fear and he is not used to that in you. He isn't paying attention to the man's heartbeat or his emotions because he is still fixed on you. And that realisation makes your heart jump in a way you should know better than to let it do, and Tolya feels it. "He won't repeat himself," you tell the man, and he drops the blade to his side. "We were sent to get you, alive was the preference."
"Who sent you?" The man asks.
"Sturmhond," Tolya explains, listening to his heart now, sensing the fear, the anger, the loss. "We are here to help." Tolya's expression softens, he has been in the world and really seen enough of it to know that there's danger in the most unexpecting of places, but one of the many things about him that is never unsurprising, is how he still sees the opportunity for kindness and grace amongst them.
Sturmhond stares at the two of them and is quick to dismiss Tolya, who walks out on the deck and is soon shoulder to shoulder with Tamar.
"You seem tense brother," she muses, eager to hear what had happened.
"I shouldn't have gone," he thinks aloud. Tamar frowns.
"How did you come to that ridiculous conclusion?" She asks, pulling at a piece of the bread she is eating.
"Because it was my presence that made her vulnerable," he explains. "She was scared, I've not seen her scared before."
"Are you sure it was fear, and not anxiety?" Tamar asks nonchalantly. "Besides, Everyone's fate is up to the saints, is it not?"
"Not hers," Tolya says without pausing to think. Tamar gives him a side glance and he shoves her shoulder.
"Not hers?" Tamar echoes. "Not if you can help it."

“The twins regale him into a tour of the merchants, food stalls, and performances of the port town, and by the time they make it back to the ship, he is unable to walk under his own power.”
I made this for the @grishaversebigbang based on the wonderful fic “Kindling” by @llantsovvs (seriously go read it right now it’s amazing!)
There’s also some more amazing art made by @doodlesnoff which you can find here!
And an entire comic made by @mfrov95, the first page of which you can find here!

Oh boy, now some things I disliked. Some strongly. Sab s2 was a speed run, yes, and sometimes the plot suffered for it. Mostly, I'm mad about the things that were taken away. Nina was done so dirty. She had the Nina personality and was iconic as usual, but I wish they had used more of her instead of her just...being there and talking about Matthias. She has an amazing personality and a lot of plot armor. Yet, they don't utilize that!
We were robbed of ninej as well. I was so excited for Ninej, and we got like two conversations. I want them to have a strong budding friendship, what happened to her flinching when Nina hugs her? Which could have helped with the lack of Inej trauma addressed this season as well. They were so fucking cute together I needed more. Don't get me started on poor Matthias getting like 10 minutes of screen time. I feel bad for him, but that was a mild complaint because what else is he supposed to do this season y'know?
I was mad at the speed run for Nikolina. They literally put all their iconic lines and scenes that were built up and formed of their relationship developing, and shoved them a into one conversation. They made Alina like him right from the start, and I just feel like in general they needed to flesh out Nikolai like a LOT. He was perfect, emanated Nikolai energy, he just needed more chances to prove that!
The erasure of Jesper's crush on Kaz and the Wesper speed run. Oh boy. Okay buckle up. I thought they didn't build up Wesper well enough, and they made them together for the fan service. I wish they had just made them friends or allies this season. Maybe Wylan was crushing on him a little, but I wanted that banter that they had in Soc. Jesper teasing him was great! This season I wished they had spent a lot more time on Jesper's crush on Kaz. Kit Young and Freddy Carter like to pretend it doesn't exist but it does. And I, (a biased Kazper shipper), really would have loved to see it in its early stages. For Inej and Jesper to bond over it and the utter angst in their scenes because Jes knows he won't like him like he likes her. They seriously cut all of that out, and made Jes say they were brothers which is not true. Kaz sees him as a brother, and it just takes out the whole impact of the Jordie line in CK.
Tolya and Inej better not-*sigh* not getting into that.. David I refuse to believe he is dead. He is a part of the Triumvirate, and he was supposed to get married to Genya before DYING. She cannot catch a freaking break.
I also didn't like how the Spinning Wheel was lame. Like, it was supposed to be in the sky. Buried in the mountains. Instead it's like a small mansion in the ground. The sea whip fetter was kind of lame too. Genya's scars could have been better, and so should the Darkling's Sharpie-drawn scars. One thing I just wish could happen is to show Jesper and Nina being bisexual. Like, at this point, people would think Jes is gay and Nina is straight. Is it too much to ask for them both to show their interest in women?
We didn't get lines like "I am not ruined, I am ruination. " and the iconic "i am become a blade. " I have hopes for s3 though. Flaws and all, I love SAB and I have faith in them to give us a good s3 and Six of Crows.
