TOKYO PIG REVIEW

This Christmas, I got a rare-ish DVD of the partially lost Tokyo Pig English dub! I watched a few episodes of it, and I also watched more of the dub on YouTube, too. So, what exactly is this anime all about?

It's a TV show adaptation of a movie...

...that was adapted from a children's book series!

Okay, I'll tell you what the anime's all about. A young boy named Spencer finds out he can make outrageous things happen just by writing them in his diary, like his mother cooking pencils, or a flock of flying pigs! During the whole pig fiasco, Spencer quickly erases the picture of the pigs in his diary, and it makes them vanish away! However, it turns out he missed one, so that's why there's a random pig in his house. Spencer names the pig Sunny... AND HERE COMES THE EXCITING PART! Sunny's not your average swine, because can use his magic powers that are fueled by Spencer's very own imagination! Together, they go on outlandish adventures and meet some eccentric characters along the way.

The animation and art style are very unique, the soundtrack is amazing, and the writing is up my alley! Seriously. I love the writing. The plotlines are goofy, the jokes are amazingly witty, and I personally love it whenever that weather lady pops up out of nowhere.

Overall, I think it's an underrated MASTERPIECE! You should give it a try so you can tickle your funny bone.

Richard Serra and Carl Andre were among the artists installing work at the Tokyo Biennale '70 when the Kent State massacre went down. They collaborated in some way to exhibit this work, later described by the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum as a "political protest." John Filo's iconic photo hangs next to a hand-painted, bilingual sign that reads, "豚はその子を食べてしまうだろう/ The Pig Will Eat Its Children."

I haven't found any mention of this work before this Shigeo Anzaï photo showed up in a two-page spread in the 2014 exhibition catalogue, Richard Serra Early Work, or since.

My wife reblogged that post about the horror movie USB and I called my husband and made them put me on speaker so I could tell them both about Guinea Pig 2 and reminisce with her about Tokyo Gore Police. We watched so many Sushi Typhoon movies years ago, I used to rent them from Hastings lol I’d love to revisit them someday! And maybe some extreme horror entries, they tend to not be my thing because normally they have a lot of emeto involved, which is a big squick of mine. A movie has to be really engaging for me to look past it, such as Hatching.
