gather question - how did you come up with olyvar?

Haha, Olyvar is a bit of a weird "original" character because he's technically canonical (even though the Great Council of 305 AC doesn't take place in the gather). But everything about him is basically cobbled together from different resources and my own imagination.

Per the Game of Throne wiki: "The new Prince of Dorne is not identified by name or House in the series, but he wears the colors and the sigil of House Martell. The actor, Toby Osmond, specifically researched and emulated Prince Oberyn Martell for the role and reports appeared during production, stating that he was playing a younger brother of Doran and Oberyn Martell."

I pulled up the Martell family tree in the ASOIAF wiki (so much wiki research) and found that Doran and Oberyn had two additional siblings, beyond Elia: Mors and Olyvar, both of whom died as infants in the book. I just borrowed the name of an existing Martell brother and used Osmond's headcanon for the role. All I had to do was give a reason why the younger characters hadn't heard of him and flesh out his backstory.

And so voila - we have Olyvar Martell, an adventuring rogue and philosophizing thorn in Sansa's side, who really did not plan on venturing right smack into a battle of legend and prophecy and giant ice spiders and whatever the hell the Starks and Targaryens have going on. To be honest, I'm constantly surprised that people actually like him because I know that the Dorne storyline in the show was, ah, not great.

There was a passing reference to a new anti-Cersei Prince of Dorne in S08E04. Since then there has been speculation that actor Toby Osmond will appear as that prince in an upcoming episode.

He certainly did not deny a possible GoT appearance as the leader of the southern principality when asked about it on Twitter.

At Imgur, the following image of Osmond with Peter Dinklage was posted. It could have been taken at a script read-through in a place with a relatively warm climate. Tyrion Lannister has occasionally acted as a diplomat. So a scenario where Oberyn’s favorite Lannister attempts to cement a deal with Dornish leaders is not at all far fetched.

Toby does look a bit Dornish, perhaps a cousin to the Martells.

Much of the storyline regarding Dorne did not go well. This could be an attempt to fix that.
