I like that Phoenix Wright is a bit of an asshole. In a lot of similarly narrative heavy games, the player character can end up either being a total blank slate that’s more your tool for professing the plot or just a generically nice character that just reacts in the most bland way possible and has infinite patience, and ends up just being an unfortunate chew toy for the cast of zany characters.

But Phoenix can be mean! He’s judgemental of all the weirdos he encounters. He thinks mean things about them and says them too sometimes. On occasion he’s even an asshole to his friends, and an active participant in the drama.

Letting Phoenix be a jerk gives a push and pull to his interactions with other characters. It’s funnier to have the zany characters torment a guy if he’s grumbling about it the whole time instead of very politely asking them to stop. And when a main character is angsty and snaps at him sometimes he snaps back!

Being forced to be a hapless doormat can get old, but a protagonist that thinks rude things about rude people is actually a lot more relatable than any blank slate.

Something I love about soul hunters is how Tubbo can’t trust bad to not mess with him or prank him. He didn’t fully believe that bad wouldn’t put the warden at his house, but he could trust that bad would pay him back. He can trust that bad will back him up in a fight or when he’s making business deals. He can trust bad with his life but can’t take him for his word

To people of loved ones with poor memory:

It might be frustrating when they forget something (especially if it's important), but I can guarantee you that they are already beating themself up over having forgotten yet another thing. You don't need to rub that shame, embarrassment, and humiliation in deeper than it already is.

It is scary to forget things. It's humiliating to be told that the only reason we forget things is because we think nothing is important, that we're selfish and callous. Our brains are being pulled in every direction at the same time. It's impossible to keep track of this shit every picosecond of the day.

People like to conceptualize memory issues as a matter of lesser intelligence, that we're too stupid to even remember [minor detail]. I've noticed, though, that all of our brain power is kept toward other things - keeping ourselves alive, remembering a different thing, trying to regulate emotions or other disorders. Nobody seems to care that our workload is at least twice that of the "average" person's, I guess because they often don't directly notice it, or it doesn't directly affect them?

It's fine to be upset about the situation. You can't help that reaction, but you do not have to be cruel to people with memory issues, no matter the cause of it. Whatever they forgot might have been important to you, but there may be other things in that person's life that required their brainpower.

ok some scattered D&D thoughts:

A lot of what people refer to as chaos in D&D games is actually just players being very fluent within the rules and is quite literally lawful

The rest of what people call "chaos" is mostly random chance (ie, wild die rolls) or bold but completely in-character decisions that, notably, are still within the rules of RP.

People who are against D&D combat are in my opinion often the most combative players who see D&D as a Players vs. DM game

It's also just generally dumb to play D&D as a combat-free game when plenty of games that don't have combat as such a major part of the ruleset and core expectation for many class features exist, but I've covered that before

A lot of people conceptualize the DM as Order and players as Chaos, but often the players they perceive as chaotic are the least opposed to the DM.

For actual play specifically, a lot of players people perceive as the most attention-grabbing or controlling are the most collaborative

It’s so interesting how Agatha Harkness loves being a witch, and everything about being a witch: Magick, the craft of Magick. The skill of figuring out how a spell works.

But not the other parts of it: Community.

And, Agatha’s definition what a Witch is, is so damned fascinating. As the hosts of Crazy Stupid Podcast mentioned, Agatha has a scarcity mindset.

For Agatha being a Witch meant being hardened, a survivor at any cost, because it was all Agatha knew of being a Witch. Witches are persecuted, so they do everything to survive.

(Meanwhile, Sorcerers are revered in the MCU.)

Agatha told Wanda there’s always men who want to tear down ladies like them… and it’s true but what she didn’t tell Wanda, is that Agatha would sell everyone else down the river to, to survive.

She’s the Apex predator of Witches.

(And 100% the reason why there’s not a lot of Witches around in both the United States and Europe since it’s apparent that she also went to Europe in her long life.)

And that makes Agatha so fascinating.

Agatha really is like my number one favorite girl, Katherine Pierce. (Who, I realize is older than Agatha too, since Agatha is only pushing 300, meanwhile, Katherine is 500 when we meet her in TVD.)

This is pretty much the SOP with both Agatha and Katherine.

Unlike Katherine Pierce, Agatha Harkness has a better chance of finding some kind of grace and peace because the writers actually think she’s interesting, complex and a character worth investing time in. Unlike the TVD writers who just used Katherine as a convenient chess piece to move around.

The thing about Agatha though, is apparently, if you managed to chain her to a group of witches and have her life tied to their wellbeing, Agatha does start to bond with a Coven.

Her paranoia and need to consume magick are the things that keep her from bonding with them. But she’s at her best when she’s guiding people and being a mentor, and a leader.

Unfortunately, Agatha also has a tendency to get people killed or harm them even though she doesn’t have any intention doing so.

‘Witch Killer’ is a nickname Agatha can’t escape from… because it’s true.

the first person leon meets is ada and says “i guess i changed too” to which ada goes “you? leon s. kennedy? you haven’t changed. you just think you have.”

he asks “have you changed ada?” and she says “what do you think?”

I know people will be upset about Phum and his dad. But I think Phum's decision is very much influenced by the way Peem loves and forgives, and to me, that's beautiful!

Toey said Peem's art reflects who he is because he makes everyone feel comfortable and safe, and that is because of how he loves!

He takes people at their word. When they mess up, he forgives them as long as they sincerely apologize. He doesn't jump to worst case conclusions and always assumes the people around him are good intentioned and trying their best.

When Phum's father extends a hand, it would be in Peem's nature to take it, and you see Phum glance at him and Peem's small encouragements to accept what is being offered.

Maybe Phum's dad won't really change. Maybe things can't be fixed, and the hurt has sat for too long and dug in too deep, but Peem has taught Phum that giving someone a chance to be forgiven can lead to something really beautiful because that's how they fell in love.

He deserves a chance to have his father. It's not about what his dad deserves or doesn't deserve. Phum wouldn't still be this upset if he didn't want his father , and he deserves to give himself that chance!

I am personally actually very pro the idea of Caitlyn falling into being the ruler of a martial law-enforced police state, realizing half way through the evil of this and then making progress away from this by dismantling the evil she caused. Though this is not easy to accomplish in 9 episodes I think this is achievable with the right pacing/writing. But honestly not committing to either Caitlyn’s fall or her redemption is so weird and has none of the thematic reward.
