The "big three"'s opinions about trans people:
Drake: Doesn't see trans men as men, so uses being less masculine than a trans man as an insult (family matters)
J Cole: Only sees people as walking genitals, so says no matter how much a trans man says he's a man, he still has a vagina so his manhood is invalid (Pi)
Kendrick Lamar: We as a culture see femininity as a weakness, which is a big problem, because it leads to us welcoming trans men and shunning trans women. If a trans woman says she's a woman, why shouldn't I believe her. If a trans man says he's a man, why shouldn't I believe him. I've lived around trans people nearly all my life and they are some of the most important people in my life. When people use religion to justify their hatred towards trans people, I speak up in defence of my trans siblings, humanity is more important than religion. I also recognise that I've not been a perfect ally all my life, I've made jokes and used slurs that I didn't realise the harm of, and this realisation will lead to the emotional climax of my album (auntie diaries)
Can you tell which one is my favourite?
#mr morale my beloved#the first time i heard auntie diaries i wept#it meant so much to me hearing someone i respected and looked up to so much be so unabashedly accepting of trans people#the album itself is what pushed me to start reaching out for help and get therapy#it is no exaggeration to say that mr morale and the big steppers changed my life#anyway now i can start transposting mwahahahahaha#text post#randyposting#hip hop#big three#drake#j cole#kendrick lamar#rap#trans#transgender#fuck the big three it is just big him

"The first thing that came to me was I didn't want to make something obvious for my solo...This solo album is purely, entirely mine, so my thoughts play the biggest role. The difference is that I have the biggest input in it...while working as a group, when we filmed NCT 127 music videos, there were many times when it was a lot about my face shot just close up. There are a lot of those moments, like 0.1 seconds of [a close up shot] of my face. I was that kind of member, so up until now, if I showed that image a lot, there are more things I can show beyond that as well. I've got lots more to show...so what I thought was I wanted to do something different from what I've been showing since debut, different from what people expect of me." - Jaehyun, "The Journey of 'J' | Part 2"

Not exactly a character sheet but something akin to it... an all around sound reveal/analysis for my punk funk guy
yapping on top of yapping under the cut:
Les's musical style is a wide range that typically leans heavily into funk metal or punk rock, or both!, although he is quick to get inspired by other genres too. In general he likes music that sounds at least a little droll and unexpected. I hope the selection of albums I compiled can paint you a good idea of it (because I sure as hell don't know what I'm doing!).
He is, first and foremost, a bass player and he's very good at it. Heavy funky slapping and popping is prominent in his music as is usual in funk music in general. He's got an old (ugly) second-hand bass guitar, that he cherishes like it's his baby. He could probably save an get a cooler-looking one for the stage but that in itself is uncool in his book.
He's also not so bad with the trumpet too, doesn't own one though, so he only plays it when he gets a chance. He learned to play it from his uncle Adewale.
Singing on the other hand is not his forte; he doesn't have super impressive vocals plus he's holding himself back. His singing style sounds droll and kind of jaded (often even deadpan and monotone although thought out and not lazy in any way), and closer to speak-singing. Big reason for that is that genuine honest singing makes him feel vulnerable in an uncomfortable way he's not willing to face, and it hints at a possibility for emotional release he very much prefers to not see happen. Y'know, singing is therapeutic and he doesn't want the therapy. 🥲
He typically balances out his singing with sarcastic/dramatic lyrics or unusual storytelling that keep his true thoughts and feelings well encrypted under layers of metaphors and allegories (subconsciously or intentionally) — which funnily enough makes him a very clever lyricist. But he doesn't put any of it down and has no interest in joining Hed and Floyd with writing songs for the band.
His singing VA is John McCrea from Cake, and when I say this I mean from the sound of his singing voice, all the way down to how he delivers his lines and the lyrics themselves. ':) More examples: 1, 2, 3. (I put only two of their albums on the drawing but honestly Cake has so many good Les songs.)
NoMeansNo is a close second when it comes to lyrics, but they're more like vent songs for Les, when you catch him in a weird angry/depressed mood. I also really like that band's prominent use of the bass, it's not very funky but it scratches my Les itch very much.
Butthole Surfers' songs have good Les lyrics too, although those are more "him singing about weird hallucinations while high out of his mind" or when he wants to be shocking for the sake of being shocking. That band is just weird overall, I like the singers southern drawl though. I'm still on board the idea of Les and Hed having a bit of a southern US accent.
Incubus is an amazing band overall but their first two albums are such a good flavor of funk metal and early band experimentality. Their singer is really good in regards to the word intonation I imagine Les having, he's too skilled for Les to keep up with in some parts though. 😅
I think the perfect Les sound would be some kind of chimera of these four bands... or maybe not, maybe that would sound terrible. XD
But still, to get a feel for Les's sound overall you have to give all of the examples below a listen, or at least the ones I put in bold.
- The albums featured in the drawing ↴
Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
NoMeansNo - 0 + 2 = 1
Cake - Comfort Eagle
Incubus - Fungus Amongus
Beck - Odelay
The Damage Manual - The Damage Manual
Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese
Cake - Motorcade of Generosity
Fungo Mungo - Humungous
NoMeansNo - Wrong
Butthole Surfers - Electriclarryland
L.A.P.D. - L.A.P.D.
Bonus "Lena" album:
13. Jack Off Jill - Clear Hearts Grey Flowers

do older fans have vault songs that are in their top favorites of the albums that have been re-recorded thus far? because I think I’ve seen newer fans include vault songs when listing their favorite songs on those four re-recorded albums and I wonder if there’s something there about older fans having lived with the albums for so many years and not really having a place for vault songs in their top 3 or 5 for those albums—even if there are vault songs they’re really enjoy and love
#cali makes a text post#just a thought idk if there’s anything to that#1989 is the only re-recording I think with vault songs I would put in my top 3 or 5#but 1989 has always been the album where I was like: okay but what were you not saying? bc I wanna hear that#like we could all tell she kept it very emotionally sparse for a reason#but I wanted the mess I wanted the word vomit

and you may say to yourself: "my god! what have i done?" and you may tell yourself: "this is not my beautiful wife!" and you may tell yourself: "this is not my beautiful house!" and you may ask yourself: "well, how did i get here?"
time isn't holding up, time isn't after us, time is a pony ride! (images described in alt text)
#gravity falls#fiddleford mcgucket#LETTING THE [FIDDLEFORD FRI]DAYS GO BY#“sir it's tuesday” i know. my computer has been busted for two weeks so i couldn't post them when i wanted to. just let me have this#again still new to alt text. i like being a little bit silly but let me know if it gets in the way of accessibility#artwork of the damned#uhhhh yeah this is actually something ive kind of wanted to draw for years now#favorite guy + favorite band = prime high-effort meme material#also. for the record. yes i have a mcgucket playlist. yes it has three talking heads songs on it. no none of them are “once in a lifetime”#also also i know that the lyrics in the description are in the wrong order. it's on purpose. i put them backwards for dramatic effect#also also also i'm pretty sure the “time is a pony ride” line is not actually sung on the album version of the track#but if you listen to/watch the live version from “stop making sense” you will hear it!#as well as hear a much more satisfying ending to the song imo. rather than it just fading out it has some really nice vocals#basically the moral of this story is you should watch “stop making sense”#if you made it to the end of the tags: congrats! you win a prize! the prize is permission to reblog this post

Fortnight really is an excellent album opener as a narrative device. It sets the scene for the tale we are about to uncover, the themes we’re about to explore, the characters we’re about to meet. It’s like an overture, the prologue to the epic we’re about to discover. In fair Verona where we lay our scene indeed etc.
#i listened to it on my commute this morning after not listening to it for awhile and it hit again#like is to my favourite album opener? no that is state of grace always#but it is the perfect opener for TTPD as an intro to the tragic tale (in the literary sense) we’re about to hear#It takes me back to pressing play on the album on April 19 (actually at like 11:45 on April 18!#cause Apple Music uploaded it early lol)#and right from the first lines I was like OH OK WE’RE DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT#lol I was like ‘is this a concept album?’ and then later on it was like ‘yes the concept is men are fucking trash’#the tortured poets department#fortnight

realised yesterday just how often hozier actually used to sing about being not quite alive, not feeling like a person, about loving someone in a way that defies death and made him more alive, about suffering death for love. it's like he was constantly being buried underground and unearthed by love, over and over, which, while romantic in a way, is also incredibly sad. but i think it's interesting how his latest album (literally called 'unreal unearth') takes this idea and makes it its central theme. that's what this album is, one man's descent into the underworld. except, crucially, he makes it to the other side, and ends the album saying the darkness will come again, but this time he is "never going back [to hell] again." it feels like such a full-circle moment considering the rest of his discography and i'm so very excited to see what comes after this
#idk he might go back to being buried and unalive but maybe this is really the end of that...#when he was singing his most popular non album songs during the concert yesterday i was like huh he really does#sing about death a lot. interesting#hozier#it was great btw! he sang abstract and francesca AND jackie and wilson and cherry wine and movement#so all my favourites basically#and hearing take me to church live was actually such a slay which i was not expecting#and he talked abt gaza which i was so happy abt and was very grateful towards his band and crew#just a great night all around#jasmine has thoughts#i knew it was a lot bc that's kind of his reputation (boo) but i didnt realise how much it actually is

After listening to the album for hours I just realized how cleverly the songs are ordered.
The album starts with Ready To Go, a song about pushing forward no matter the obstacles, followed by Cha Cha Cha, the song that got him to where he is now (which "coincidentally" is the second track, matching Jere's final ESC ranking). Right after that is Takavoltti, which talks about how, now that Jere's famous, everyone constantly asks him to do things—Jere do this, Jere do that—and he complies because he wants to make others smile, even though it can hurt him. And this pain transitions smoothly into Ruoska, a song that literally talks about how the pain, both of being controlled by what people expect of him and the hate he receives, excites him in some way.
Then we get into a more intense section. Kot Kot expresses his anxiety, loneliness, and the feeling of no one responding to him. This theme continues in Autiomaa, where he describes feeling empty despite everything he's achieved and struggling to be taken seriously as an artist. This feeling also comes through in the skit with the therapist, who interrupts Jere, downplays his concerns and treats him like he's just a celebrity who should "get a real job" instead of a person.
And maybe the next song marks one of the album's sharpest turns. As a single, Sex = Money could be seen as Jere selling sex out of desperation, not knowing what else to do, but when paired with the meaning behind Autiomaa it also reflects a bit of that hopelessness of being lost but still wanting to keep going, and so he turns to selling sex.
From there, we have some more upbeat tracks. Bananas talks about people going wild (going bananas) for him now that he's resurfaced, and the energy continues with Huhhahhei and It's Crazy, It's Party.
Finally, we have the perfect song to close the album, People's Champion. Here Jere finally acknowledges himself as a winner, a champion, more specifically, the people's champion. He reflects on his growth and evolution as an artist, from that scared kid to this man who isn't afraid of anything and who will keep standing strong no matter what. And of course, the lyrics "Thank you everybody I love you" as the cherry on top, a thanks to all his fans for everything they've given him and for helping him get to where he is today.
I'm so impressed by the story this album tells, and Jere has done an amazing job with it. I love him and everything he's achieved and I hope he can feel our love just as much as we feel his.
#thinking about this got me a bit emotional ngl#this is my interpretation of the album#feel free to add your thoughts and comments on this#it's amazing how we're all experiencing the release of a new album together#and i love to hear people's analysis on it and on the songs#käärijä#people's champion#txt#mine
